Listen. I HATE science with a passion and only took this class because it was a gen ed....and ended up really liking it. Cuchara really knows what she is talking about and tries to make the subject interesting and fun. She is kind of nerdy but can be funny. Plenty of chances to bring your grade up. I reccomend her!
Prof Cuchara is a great teacher.. I would recommend her highly! Very clear with objectives. Just be prepared for essay questioned tests.. You will learn alot just study your notes and show up to class..
Hard (lots of essay questions) but fair -- you learn a LOT and the class is FUN! Lab is actually useful too. She really cares about science and her students.
Clearly, the other commenter(s) did not have her for microbiology lab. For BMS370 Lab, expect 10 20 - 30 page lab reports due in a semester. Very passionate and enthusiastic, but work demand is unreal & ultimately unfair. More work was done for the lab than for the actual lecture. I would avoid, go with Boucaud or Post.
Worst teacher ive had in my life. She has literally taught us several things in photoshop and expects you to be an expert at everything she talks about. The laziest teacher ive met. Im upset that I paid for her to have a job at this school. She is worthless.
She seems really interested in photography but didn't grasp that it was for half a semester and gave way too many assignments. Also didn't give any grades back until we got our final grade.
learned a lot! finally understand exposure, depth of field = fstop and shutter speed. This can be used for work and when I take photos of my child. Hard but fair.
It was hard work when I was taking it, but I learned a lot. Very helpful when it came time for the MCATs. Prof really cares about her students
DO NOT TAKE HER. Not only do you have 1-2 presentations per week but she is very rude and does not help if you ask for it. In fact she will criticize you for asking her questions about assignments and her expectations are bizzare. For tests you have to read dozens of journal articles which sometimes are more than 100 pages long.
Horrible professor. Does not know what she is doing when it comes to teaching. Her powerpoints are scattered and incomprehensible. A group of my friends and I actually had to sit down and reorganize her slides when it came time for test because they were not in a logical order. The tests are hard and there are several projects you have to do.
Work load absolutely unfair. Her expectations require you to study for her class everyday, all day and in addition complete multiple scientific research projects. If this isn't the only class you're taking, you will either fail every other class or pass every other class and fail hers! She will ruin your GPA
RIDICULOUS amount of work, and I'm not just saying that because I'm a lazy college student. I didn't have any time to focus on any of my other classes. She didn't teach (when she actually bothered to show up to class), and put material on the exams that she never once went over. If you don't need this class to graduate DO NOT TAKE IT.
Horrible professor. She just cares about how many research projects have her name on it come time for the poster session. She doesn't help anybody and expects you to memorize pointless statistics and doesn't give you full credit on test questions unless you include a lot of pointless information. Avoid at all costs.
DONT TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH HER. She doesn't bother to teach. She just assigns random 100 page articles and expects you to member every fact or statistic and regurgitate it on exams. I have a 3.8 gpa and obviously work hard but this was just a ridiculous task. BTW dont ever ask for help, you wont get any.
She does not care at all. All she cares about is how many projects that she presents in a meeting. But, she is not around if you need consultation or discussion. She rarely response to emails. If you are graduate student, avoid taking thesis project with her. You will be disappointed. I graduate with gpa 3.9X
I had professor Cuchara for two classes, she is very helpful to me and she really care about science. I really like the way she teach. her exam is not difficult and she wants you to learn something in her class. she makes you doing many things but on the other hand you gain a lot. If you want to know about immunology, I highly recommend her.
Dr. Cuchara taught me in BMS375/475/482 and is knowledgable in the material. Although there is additional work that comes with these classes, she is very fair and in the end you will find that the education and skills you gained from taking her classes will benefit you if you plan to continue in the science or medical field. Highly recommended.
Cuchara is a great professor who pushes you to do extra work. She knows so much about immuno and makes her lectures very easy to follow. Perhaps my favorite part was how she explained diseases and the mechanism of action of various drugs. So long as you put the time in and follow her objectives, you'll do fine.
Cuchara is a professor who pushes you to do extra work. She knows an incredible amount of information regarding immunology and makes her lectures very easy to follow. Perhaps my favorite part was how she explained diseases and the mechanism of action of various drugs. So long as you put the time in and follow her objectives, you'll do fine.
I took Micro Lab with Dr. Cuchara and I learned a great deal from her. Her class truly makes you understand Microbiology but you have to be willing to work hard. She is extremely knowledgeable and really strives to help her students succeed. It's unfortunate that students haven't rated her fairly due to a poor grade but I highly recommend her.
One of the best professors I've had at QU. Her class requires you to do a lot of work, but it is worth it. It is easy to do well if you are willing to put in effort. I've learned more from Cuchara than I have from any other professor. Also took BMS 378 and BMS 473 with her. Highly recommend.
One of the best professors at QU. Im not going to sugarcoat it. It's a lot of work. But she is the best at what she does teaching immunology. I had her for Immunology and Vaccine Preventable Diseases. You will have a lot of work to do but I can guarantee that you will know everything you need to know for your future profession. Take her.
I never learned so much as I did in the two classes I took with Dr. Cuchara. She has a genuine interest in these topics and public health and wants you to become as familiar with the material as possible. The class does require a lot of work, such as discussion boards and presentations, but she teaches in a way that makes you really understand it
summer classes are a lot of work but i learned a lot. Material was clear and organized and it was easy to get an A but doing what was expected of you.
Time flew by in this summer class, lots and lots of work - but do the work and you will earn an A
Professor Cuchara truly cares that you learn this material and not just memorize it. There are so many opportunities for extra help. We had private sessions with a peer tutor each week and she is always willing to provide one on one office time if you need it. Dr. Cuchara puts the material into understandable terms and offers manageable time frames
Very fair professor. As long as you do the work and study the materials for the tests you should do fine in the class. Not the easiest class but very informative
hard work but you learn LOT. Fair prof. inspirational and passionate about subject
Do not take her. She made you feel dumb when you ask questions. She gives you unbelievable amount of work for such an easy class. Won't respond to emails and very hard to get in contact with her. The other comments are completely untrue. She tells you to buy stuff that you will not need.
She was the supervisor of my masters thesis project. She was always willing to provide guidance and assistance. She always works to simplify and ease complicated things. She is one of the finest professors I ever seen.
She is one of the finest professors I ever had.
Extremely passionate about the subjects she teaches. Makes it clear as to what you need to knowdo in order to do well in the class. Her Immunology class was my favorite class that I have ever taken. Recommended to anyone pursing a job in the medical field. A lot of work but definitely worth it with all the knowledge you come out with in the end!
I took Dr. Cuchara for immunology during my junior year and I did exceptionally well. While the class was difficult and time consuming, it was extremely interesting and I enjoyed learning about the immune system and its related topics. Dr. Cuchara was very passionate about the topic which provided for an effective learning environment.
Very intelligent and encourages inquiry and passion about the subject.
Prof. Cuchara always made her expectations pretty clear. You were never unsure of what she wanted from you. There is a decent amount of work but it is almost always helpful, and if you get it done you will do fine. It taught me things I wouldnt have learned in any other class and inspired a career path change for me, into public health. Loved it
I've taken Professor Cuchara for multiple classes and done research for her, and I'm very fond of her - even though her class work occasionally (ok, usually) made me want to tear my hair out. She's very into the PRACTICAL aspects of her field - mainly vaccinations and transplants - though sometimes the more molecular level information gets lost.
A- in immunology, hardest class I've ever taken. Powerpoints are extremely redundant and confusing. Take notes in class and focus on the textbook. Her tests were mc + essays. There was 10-15% EC that could be added onto your grade, would have gotten a C+ without it. Final was the easiest test and focused on big picture. Prepare to study/work hard.
The class required a lot of out of class work but nothing too crazy, Cuchara taught us the basics and got us thinking about real world problems and how to do something about them. Overall great experience and really took a lot away from this course... highly recommend it!
Dr. Cuchara is one of the best professors! She is very knowledgable on immunology and it lends to interesting lectures that contain real life examples. She left us with an arsenal of knowledge on VPDs and other topics of immunology. You get out what you put into it; study and pay attention in lecture to succeed in the course! Highly Recommend!!!
Super helpful if you ask. Sometimes hard to get a hold of through email but if it's important don't be afraid to send a few emails.
This class is a great class. You will have to work for your grade but its worth it - you genuinely learn a lot. It's not easy because its immunology, if you want easy then maybe science should not be part of your studies.
She is a very nice and smart professor. Getting a hold of her for any sort of help or contact outside of class is difficult. She doesn't respond to emails in a very timely manner. The lectures are mainly pictures and repetitive. At the same time, the exams are almost what you can expect. Mostly open ended exams, Lots of other work and extra credit.
Amazing professor! I learned the most from her VPD course than I have ever learned in any other class! The course required a lot of work outside the classroom, however, if you do the work thoroughly & enjoy it, you will do great in the class. If you are not interested in the class, I wouldn't suggest taking it! But if you are, DEFINITELY TAKE IT!!!
This class was challenging, but very worthwhile. The information was interesting, and the use of frequent group presentations to solidify information was very effective and kept things interesting. Dr. Cuchara was very clear with what she expected from students, and was very willing to work with us when we needed guidance. Highly recommend!
Professor Cuchara is a really nice person, but her class was extremely difficult. There's a lot of extra work to boost your grade. Powerpoints are repetitive and don't always make sense. On tests, you're expected to know as much as she does and takes off random points, never explaining why. Take course if you're comfortable with your science skills
Professor Cuchara has been one of the most passionate and intelligent Professors I have ever had the opportunity to learn from! Immunology is in no way an easy course, but Professor Cuchara's enthusiasm is infectious and you truly want to work hard in the class! If you put in the time, you'll succeed and it'll be incredibly worth it!
I found the course itself to be worthwhile, but Professor Cuchara took some getting used to. Her lectures are repetitive and don't always make sense and her tests are really difficult. She gives a lot of extra credit but you have to work for that too. I liked the class but you need to be ready to work.
Professor Cuchara is a very smart lady, however she is not an effective educator. She speaks tremendously fast and constructs powerpoints that are very unorganized. Her class had 3 tests (averaging above 90% on all allowed for an exemption on the final) and many assignments. Tests were very detail oriented. DO EXTRA CREDIT.
Great optional summer course! It's a very easy class - there are no exams or lectures.. there is just some reading and some writing via discussion boards! Highly recommend!!
Awesome course! Immunology is a tough subject, however, Professor Cuchara's passion and enthusiasm made the class worthwhile. It became my favorite class and I then took her vaccine course. Professor Cuchara is an excellent professor who provides you with information that you will definitely need if you want to pursue a career in health care.
Dr. Cuchara is an incredible teacher with so much knowledge. She is always willing to meet with students outside of class time if you are confused about a lecture. This class is not easy, but if you put it in the time and effort, it will pay off. Take notes, study (not the day before),ask questions and you'll love the class! Definitely recommend!
Dr. Cuchara is a brilliant professor. She loves the subject that she teaches and it shows. Be prepared to put in work for the class, it is a tough subject to learn but with the right amount of effort, it is a class you can pass. This is a 300-level college course, so it is advanced. Use the books and the professor to your advantage! Great Professor!
This course is mainly presentations with a group that you pick right away with a final exam of paper. Other assignments are available to help boost grades and add to participation. Cuchara makes grading fair by having classmates also grade presentations and worked with me when I was nervous about my final grade due to my group.
Dr. Cuchara is a very knowledgeable professor when it comes to immunology. She really enjoys teaching the class and it shows. Immunology is by no means an easy subject and if you want a good grade, you have to be prepared to work for it. Lectures are scattered and confusing so reading the textbook is a must. Extra credit is also given so do it!
Tough class but that's expected with Immunology. 3 exams, 2nd one is the hardest by far. Study early and you will do fine. Do all the extra credit and you will get 10 points added to your final grade which definitely helps. Got an A on all the exams, but I also studied 2 weeks in advance. Not too bad if you put in the work!
Dr. Cuchara is such a great lecturer and always made class so interesting. After taking this class, I felt equipt and confident when discussing vaccines to both peers and friends/family. This course is definitely applicable to everyday life and Dr. Cuchara helps make the course exciting and interesting! I definitely recommend.
Dr. Cuhara is the toughest professor I have ever had but also the most inspirational. Immuno was very hard but so worth it in the end. I learned so much and I feel much more prepared for PA school.
Dr. Cuchara is passionate about the material she teaches and knows a lot about immunology, transplants and vaccines and is ready to share this information with the class. Dr. Cuchara challenges you to think about the greater purpose and societal relevance of all that you learn, making her class a valuable experience and prep for the real world.
I took 3 courses with Dr. Charara( immunology, vaccines & infections of leisure) Her passion for teaching & expansive knowledge is obvious. She provides ample resources for learning that go beyond the textbook & offers TONS of extra credit opportunities. Her classes involve presentations & teamwork which help us learn real-world skills. Must take!
Professor Cuchara is very passionate and knowledgeable about the classes she teaches and it shows in her lectures. Shes always willing to answer questions and she is very understanding and flexible when it comes to the work. Her tests reflect her lectures so if you pay attention you will do very well
No textbook use but you will have to buy a book about vaccines. Weekly readings and summary essays that are graded very easily. Tests are straight forward and fair, if you study you will get an A. Tons of extra credit opportunities that can bring you up a whole letter grade. If you have an A in the class you don't have to take the final.
Dr. Cuchara's Immunology class challenged me more than any other course in my undergraduate career thus far. This caused a great deal of personal growth in time management, study techniques, and the ability to interpret scientific literature. She was also able to pick up on my need for a balance of creativity and logic, and encouraged it.
Dr. Cuchara made immunology easy and interesting. Her lectures are very personable, which made some of the harder material easier to remember. She is always available outside of class & will take the time to make sure that you understand a topic. Do the extra credit, put in work outside of class, & participate in lecture & you will get and an A!
This course is heavy on group work but in a good way! There are NO EXAMS, so participation is KEY. Dr. Cuchara always offered great feedback on presentations. Her Lectures were very memorable and it was clear that she really cared for the students. The course was great, the instructors were great, would recommend 100%.
Took this class in the summer and although it was a lot of work I did enjoy the course and I learned a lot. Immunology is a tough subject but if you take the time to thoroughly do the work you will be fine. There are a couple power points due each week as well as a couple assignments and DBs some extra credit for the course as well Would take again
Really bad!
Does not help her students when we come to her with issues. Instead, she brushes us off and assumes she is right. Does not listen to students concerns. Extremely tough grader
She definitely knows a lot, but her teaching style is not for me. Does give extra credit options that can help , and if you receive a 90+ in her class you can be exempt from final. Tough grader, definitely my hardest class- put the most work in for this class . Interesting subject, but a hard class and must be committed if you want a good grade.
She's truly an amazing person. She genuinely cares about her students and makes it really clear what she wants. She holds her students to high-standards but is really relaxed and mellow. She gives a lot of extra credit which helps a lot and a group project, if you show up to class, put in the work for an amazing subject you'll get an easy A!
Dr. Cuchara is a great professor. Immunology is a really challenging course but she gives you everything you need to be successful for the exams and she's very responsive to emails. I would suggest going to peer tutor review sessions because you essentially write an exam and practice which was super helpful! Lots of extra credit opportunities, too.
Taking this class was by far one of the best decisions Ive made. I was struggling in the class and started with a C but after meeting with prof C we worked together to find ways to improve my grade and overall comprehension of the material. She is compassionate and really loves teaching and is willing to help students who will put in the effort!
Dr. Cuchara teaches very difficult courses but does an incredible job at it. As an individual if you are engaged and participate as well as eager to learn there should be no reason that you cannot get the grade you desire. She is always eager to teach her students and is extremely well informed. I would absolutely recommend taking her courses 10/10
Professor Cuchara was one of my favorite professors at QU. Although Immunology is a very difficult class, she was always willing to do anything to help her students succeed. If you attend class and put in the effort you'll do great. She is INCREDIBLY knowledgeable about the subject and I learned and retained so much information from this course.
I took Outbreak & Control which is a graduate level course. Dr. Cuchara barely went over the powerpoints which you have to review personally because they will be on the exam. The exams are not difficult and you can pick which essay questions to answer. Warning, she is very disorganized and wrongfully calculated my grade which I pointed out to her.
All her courses are set up differently and this one particularly focuses on group work and presentations. Dr. Cuchara expects a lot from her students but gives everything necessary to succeed. There is always extra credit to improve your grade :) Work hard and show genuine interest in the course and you will do great! Knowledgeable about topics!
Dr. Cuchara is very knowledgable about this topic! The topic itself is difficult but if you work hard and complete the assignments, you will succeed. Her tests will consist of topics discussed within the class and assignments (by the end of the semester you will be able to predict the exact questions she will ask). She wants herstudents to do well!
Cuchara was very disorganized and the PowerPoint she posted did not match the ones she used during the lecture. The PowerPoint contained 80% pictures with no text to explain important topics making note-taking difficult as I was only left to try and write down what she was saying instead. She grades hard on the open-ended questions but there is EC.
Dr. Cuchara is disorganized. The entire course was taken from the Fall semester before and due dates weren't properly assigned on Blackboard to the current semester. The course is quite chaotic if you're not on top of everything. If you're organized, you should do well but be prepared to get frustrated at times. Extra credit is offered.
For a Graduate prof., she may very well be the most disorganized professor I have ever come across. The course is chaotic, and you will rarely know when things are due. Her blackboard shell is impossible to navigate and is not updated for the current year. On the other hand, she is extremely knowledable. Also, do not expect grades in on time, EVER!
She has been a great professor, advisor, and most importantly a mentor. These past 4 years have been amazing and I tell all the prospective students the same thing, the faculty is really what makes this school special and unlike the large universities. She truly embodies the faculty to student relationship.
Dr. Cuchara is a fantastic professor and mentor. I've taken her for both immunology and independent research, and she has been nothing but helpful, kind, guiding, and so informative. Just through one discussion, you can tell how knowledgable and passionate she is. That passion makes her class so enjoyable and engaging. Could not recommend more.
This was the most disorganized class I took in my 5 years at QU. The Blackboard shell was an absolute mess, and assignment due dates were never clearly posted and changed often. The class itself revolved around group projects where we had to teach ourselves the material. Waste of money. Bad Class, Bad Prof. Avoid at all costs.
In the four years that I have been at QU, this is by far the most chaotic course. The blackboard shell is a mess, and almost impossible to navigate. You will most likely be confused about due dates the whole year. You have to teach yourself all the material. Also, get ready to write 4-page papers only worth 0.25% on an entire book.
Cuchara is the most disorganized prof Ive ever had. Not approachable by email. Whenever I reached out for help I was told to ask another student or reread the confusing syllabus. Her class is built upon high school level busy work that were frustrating and provided no valuable learning experience. Class is self taught. Overwhelmingly disappointing.
Loved this class, and really enjoyed how Professor Cuchara delivered the material. Lots of group presentations but time was given during class to work on these! Professor Cuchara also gave great feedback after each presentation. Effort is needed in this class but it's so worth it because your presentation skills will improve immensely!
I did not have any homework for this class other than reading one book and presenting on articles relevant to the topic of the week for grade! Super easy and if you are interested in what you do, it makes it even easier! Prof. Cuchara made the class so effortless and somewhat entertaining. I am taking her again for BMS 319!
Cuchara is very passionate about what she teaches, however, relaying it to her students is an area where she struggled. Her power points did not coincide with what she was teaching. She is a very tough grader so be prepared to go above and beyond. This class is stressful and time consuming. XC is available, however they are extremely time consuming
This professor is horrible, gave me a CARE report because I dozed off in ONE class during SYLLABUS WEEK. Like ma'am, we just started, you don't even know me to already give me a care report, and on top of that, she doesn't even know how I work academically, so what makes you think that I need a care report based off of 2nd class we had so far.
save your time and take another professor.
I learned so much in this class. it is defiantly content heavy but Dr. Cuchara provides so many different ways for you to learn the material. There are lots of prep for the exams so you feel really well prepared. honestly I know exactly what is going to be on the exam before I take it which really helps.
Dr. cuchara really helps you try to do well in her classes. She hold review sessions the class before the exams which really helps you feel confident before having to the exams. The class has a lot of content but you do feel very prepared.
Professor Cuchara has been one of my favorite professors. She is very passionate about the content she teaches and offers a lot of extra credit. If you study and keep up with the material you will do well no problem. Her exams are very fair and you will have a good sense of what will exactly be asked on them. TAKE HER!!
Professor Cuchara's class is challenging because of the content however, she makes it very clear what is needed for the test. The things she hones on in class are sure to be one of the short answer questions on the exam. She also offers a lot of extra credit to supplement your grade! She expects a lot but all the information she tests is given!
I can confidently say that those who rated poorly did not try hard enough in Dr. Cucharas classes. She is brilliant in her knowledge and has structured her classes to allow those who truly put in effort to succeed to pass with an A and vice versa. Additionally, the negative comment about the CARE Act dropped the class and never tried to succeed.
Dr. Cuchara is very knowledgeable and passionate in relaying the correct information. I took her for two classes, and her expectations were very clear and I was able to utilize the material in my medical experiences. She has always been available outside of class to help out students and gives a lot of extra credit. I'd take her again if I could!
Took Dr. Cuchara for immunology and vaccines. Extremely smart and passionate about the field with professional lab experience. The exams can be difficult, but if you pay attention in lecture and ask questions, you will do fine. A TON of extra credit is offered throughout the semester. She genuinely cares about her students and their success.
Great class! Very informative. Dr. Cuchara was a fair professor.
Dr. Cuchara's vaccine course was difficult, but I found it to be enjoyable. It consisted of lots of group discussions regarding vaccines and presentations by students. If you are enthusiastic about the topics, and show it during presentations, you're likely to get a good grade.
Dr. Cuchara is the best professor I've had, and I ended up taking 6 of her classes! Her work is totally doable as long as you go through the rubrics and understand what she is looking for in a presentation (which is the majority of the work). She is always available for extra help and has been very supportive inside and outside of class.
Dr. Cuchara truly appreciates students who are actively involved in class and ask great questions! Show your genuine interest in the material, and share relevant activities you are involved in outside the class or how you found a way to apply the material taught in class!
Took Dr. Cuchara for immunology twice (grad / undergrad). The exams can be difficult, but she basically hands you the topics she will put on the exams. Extra credit is offered. She genuinely cares about her students and their success. Put in the work and you will succeed.
Most confusing professor I've ever had. Terrible communication. She grades off how she feels there's no clear guideline to follow. Her instructions make no sense. Honestly, I have no idea how she calls herself an educator when she aims to harm her students rather than teach. Do whatever you can to not take her, you will save yourself the trouble.
I would not recommend this professor. She does give many extra credit opportunities, but they take a very long time to complete. Her lectures are hard to follow as she talks fast and doesn't explain things in order causing everyone confusion. I taught myself all the material which was very difficult with the confusing out of order PowerPoints.
Prof Cuchara makes content virtually impossible to understand. You'll go into exams thinking you know things front to back, and come out feeling confident, but receive a grade no higher than a 85. She comes off as very unsympathetic towards students. The only plus is that she does offer a lot of extra credit every unit that will save your grade.
Professor Cuchara is brilliant and passionate about the material. While the exams can be challenging, she provides ample extra credit opportunities to help you succeed. Utilizing unstuckstudy alongside the textbook and attending lectures can make a big difference in this course.
The professor was unclear in instructions and sought to fail me and my fellow classmates. Quizzes were very short and there was little margin for error. Would not recommend in any circumstance, worst professor at Quinnipiac.
I have truly never complained about a professor or a class more than this one, and I've had awful professors. This class is full of busy-work so she doesn't need to teach. She didn't teach us once and instead had us do presentations. Her blackboard and communication skills are awful. I truly hope to never see this woman again. I hated this class.
She is not a bad professor! however when it comes to this class she can be disorganized. To a degree its a lot of busy work. but a lot of this class has been affected by the trump administration. so there is an issue there. i think she will do well with the transfer to canvas so that students can see everything.
Dr. Cuchara is a wonderful person. If you communicate with her, she will work with you and it is very evident that she wants all of her students to do well! I also have her for BMS375 and will be taking her again during the Spring semester. She is very personable and loves to talk about the lecture and outside topics! The work is a lot, but easy!
Dr. Cuchara is one of the nicest professors I have had at Quinnipiac. She is very accessible outside of class and is extremely understanding if you need an extension or miss class. She is personable and always eager to listen. Sure, she may change assignment dates but she always accepts if you submit it late due to missing the date change. Love her
Hate hate hated this class and I like immunology. Made me buy a textbook that we never used. Forces you to study in a certain way and I am a junior in college, I know what study methods work for me and what don't by now so to change my whole method around was a struggle. The only good thing about her class is the extra credit.
