This class is fun.. A little hard, but if you keep up on your work, its ok.
The entire course is essays. At first the class doesn't look that hard, but she hardly ever gives A's on papers and doesn't do a good job with explaining them or how to make them better. Just when you think you wrote the best paper of your life, it's still not good enough and you get a B. Frustrating class if you want an A grade.
I loved her. She is very funny, smart, sarcastic, and witty. I learned a lot in this class. She likes students to ask questions. Not everyone likes this because you have to think, but I liked that she will answer almost anything. You just have to ask the right questions-she will help you.
Awsome teacher! I hated English before this class but she has a way of relating to college students which makes the class really interesting. She's a harsh grader though and you might not be able to **** your way through the essays.....
Mrs. Danner is the best teacher that I have ever had...she is so nice and rocks at everything. MOre then anything she is so so funny and makes class a blast to go to. For my first college experiance she made it freaking awesome!I LOVE YOU MRS.DANNER
most people like her, but i a didnt... she never really taught us anything, you read this stupid english book, and its a waiste of time, most of the time i was in there i felt like i was in 4th grade again. She was really harsh when she talks about people. I started to annoy me...I honestly thought her class was boring....
Great teacher i loved her class! shes really hard you actually have to write a lot in her class but in the end i can write a mean essay.
Attendance is the most important part of your grade, not how you do on the essays...Seems rediculous since this is college!!!
Show up for class!! Most of your grade is based on the journal entries and the in-class essay's, so don't go all avoident artist and ditch class, show up and get an A.
Mrs. Danner is a super cool teacher! She is very helpful with assignments and I always looked forward to attending her class each week! She made the class a fun but at the same time very helpful and learned a lot! There was no boring lecture time! I took Mrs. Danner for three semesters and enjoyed every one of them!
Danner was my first English teacher at Folsom Lake, and she was incredibly satisfying as a professor. Rarely have I met someone who is realistically intelligent and eloquently professorial. She has the unique ability to keep her class light-hearted and personal while still maintaining a high level of accumen and professionalism. If you enjoy Englis
She is a very smart woman. If you can write well, you will get a good grade. She is very sarcastic, which can take some getting used to. The only thing I don't like about her is that she has no problem criticizing her students in front of the class. At times I felt her comments would've been more appropriate in her office/ in private.
Mrs. Danner is a quick-witted, strong-willed, sacrastic, yet brutally honest teacher. If you're 2 and can't handle a little sarcasm, don't join her class. I absolutely loved and appreciated her critism. Your grade is based solely on your own performance. If you do your work, you'll get an A, if you slack off, you'll get a slacking grade.
Mrs. Danner was the best English professors I have had. The book she uses was so insightful and I learned so much about historical legends, that I never knew were so interesting. She has a spicy little attitude and holds nothing back. We always had great discussions in the class and I can only hope that I can have more classes like this to come.
she's interesting. lots of opinions, but doesnt mind if yours differ. (well, she minds, but at least she wont fail you because of it, like SOME teachers...) i liked talking with her, but i didnt love her class so much. some assignments were good, some were dumb, but expect to work. YOU WILL WORK IN THIS CLASS. and hard...
She should quit as a teacher. She's lazy.
Lisa has a bad attitude that some might like to think is "Sarcasm" However she is very close minded. She Might be Excellent @ English, But she really should brush up on her Ability to Have any Connection with the Students, Without a Connection Her skills are useless.
lisa danner is a very poor teacher. she uses language that is not suitable for the classroom and therefore makes herself sound like an idiot. she has strong opinions and if you dont agree with them then your grade does suffer. she isnt helpful at all and does not give any oppurtunities for you to meet with her. this class isnt worth the time/money.
Danner is great at her job! I loved this class, and she made me go on a "I wanna teach English" spree. Highly recommend her class.
Had her for 300 and 302. Totally take this teacher's class. She is about the most honest teacher you will ever have and she has a no nonsense attitude toward everything. She is also good preparation for anything you will ever need to write in college and beyond.
Probably my favorite english teacher ever. She's smart, funny, always willing to answer questions and help out, and tends to bring out the best in class discussions.
we did not do any papers of substance this was more of a philosophy class than an english argument class if you like to write papers about ideas and philosohy instead of somthing more pertanent to actual events take this class
A quick note to all of you who are hatin on Mrs. Danner - get a life! There's a difference between an opinion and being just plain mean. It's apparent many of these reviews are written by the same sour individual who has some serious issues with themselves. Move on and shut up. Lisa Danner is a top notch teacher. Thanks a million Mrs. Danner!!!
Professor Danner is passionate about teaching and has a great love for Shakespeare. She identifies extremely well with her students and both earns and deserves their respect. She introduced me to William Shakespeare like no other professor has since the time I began college in 1973. She has profoundly rekindled my fire to learn even more.
Another of the several classes I have completed taught by Prof. Danner. She is the most real and accesible professor I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Her assignments, especially those involving writing, are very challenging. She inspired me to continue my college career, and turned me into an English major in the process. Simply the best!
Overall a very good prof. She is very good at getting class participation in a non-intimidating way. Very opinionated but I didn't feel that she graded down for differing opinions. Played favorites a little bit, and as one of the favorites, I found it rather annoying. However, I think she graded fairly despite that.
Mrs. Danner is the most wonderful professor I have ever had. She encourages the creative and critical thought process necessary to transcend a regular grasp of English. I plan on taking the rest of my English classes with her.
When you first begin the semester with Prof. Danner, she will seem very harsh and sarcastic (which she is, but wait till you get to know her better before you pass any judgment!). Don't be too intimidated--instead, let that cause you to try your very best and be a responsible college student. It will pay in the end.
I thought I was good writer before taking her class. Her standards really forced me to improve my writing skills. She's brutally honest at times but a good teacher.
Made a Literature lover dread going to class. Often questioned if I disliked her due to similiar sarcastic personalities... not likely. She is just plain rude and close minded and so full of herself. Could have gotten more out of the material with a different professor. A Lit teacher who hated On The Road? Ah! You are there to feed her ego.
I do not enjoy english. I find the subject boaring, but Professor Danner made the subject fun and interesting. She is the best teacher I have ever had. I really wish I could have her for english 302, but she is not available in the spring. Professor Danner has a great attitude and sense of humor. Many people think she is rude, which she is not. She
Best teacher I have ever had. Extremely helpful. Wonderful personality. Anyone who thinks she is rude and mean is crazy. Anyone who struggles with English will find Mrs. Danner the best. She will challenge you. I Thank you Professor Danner for everything you have done for me. You are the best!
If she takes a personal stand from you, she will pretend that it is ok during the year but she will get it out of you on the last paper... Watch out, I would never go for any of her classes again at all... Oh and she loves her puppies (Stupid students who will suck up for her)
Ok where do I start: 1- She uses slang "like dude, and such" 2- She is not helpful at all 3- Her attitude sucks. 4- She has her favorite students and if you are not one of them then God help you! 5- Lazy 6- Curses in class 7- Rude beyond words can explain!
Learned a lot. Danner rules.
Take her if you want to be prepared for college and you want to learn something. I've learned more from her than anyone else.
Professor Danner is a knowledgeable and skilled teacher. The essays are aimed at establishing a college-necessary thought process, one in which half of the angry posters on here obviously lack. Those who blame their inability to operate like an invested student on Prof. Danner having pet's speak volumes of responsibility. Danner > All :)!
This teacher is rude and does not seem to care about her students.. just wants her paycheck and her power.
I love Mrs Danner. She is tough, but it helps you learn. Most of the bad comments on here are from sensitive cry babies. She pushes you to be a better writer, and thats what a good teacher should do.
She is an awesome teacher. The class was a little hard, but I learned a lot from her and she is always willing to answer any questions. She is funny, honest, and keeps the class entertained!
Great teacher. Funny and smart. I learned and improved as a writer and a reader. Recommended highly.
Anyone that said Professor Danner is a great teacher is on drugs. She is rude. She degrades her students and calls them stupid. She does not teach you anything and makes you afraid to ask questions because she will ridicule you if you ask her something "stupid."
She is one dragon of a lady! She's sarcastic, witty, and more than a little intimidating, yet, she will be the BEST English teacher you will ever have! She's a wonderful professor who doesn't let you slack off because she believes that you can do better. Anyone that complains about her is seriously just a crybaby and a slacker.
Professor Danner is the best english teacher I have ever had. That doesnt mean she was an easy teacher. She may read your essay and say its pathetic but deep down you know it is. She pushes you to become a better writer. Her classes are never boring and time just seems to fly by.
I'm not a very big fan of writing essays but I really liked this class! Before the class, I was a proficient writer, but afterwords my writing has soared! Prof. Danner keeps the class very entertaining and is helpful when you have a question. I definitely recommend this class to anyone thinking about taking it!
She is a disturbed woman and in denial about how petty and small minded she is.
If you want a rude, arrogant and lazy teacher then be sure and sign up for this one. As they say, "People who can do..do; People who can't do..teach"
I've had Danner twice, for 101 and 300. She is extremely smart and has helped improve my writing more than any teacher I've had. She is very helpful. Go to her office hours for one on one help.
She is a terrible professor. She does not want to help students, she doesn't teach, she has us grade our own papers, she ridicules student's work, she is very opinionated, and she is highly unapproachable. She seems bitter about having to teach at a community college and thinks she is better than it all. I would not recommend her to anyone.
THIS PROFESSOR IS SO BAD! I took her english 300 class and she did absolutely nothing to improve my writing. I was a 4.0 student prior to taking her class. She is rude and not helpful at all. She grades her final incredibly hard and I learned NOTHING from her class.
The posts are correct..this prof. is a disaster. She doesn't want you to write stories (way too much work to grade)...she just wants a paragraph with adjectives....and do it in longhand as if you did it on a computer she would have way too much work. Why she is still teaching is beyond me...administrators I hope you are reading these posts.
i do not reccomend this teacher because she is not the most fair grader in the world. i would get essays back that she checked over before the final draft, do exactly what she told me to do, and still get a bad grade on it. she definatley plays favorites. overall, if you want a good grade this is not the class for you. unless you are a great writer
Good teacher! the class book she assigns to read has NOTHING to do with our final. she grades fair but never gives out 100% on any assignment. You dont have to participate, just show up for class and have papers for every group work, even if they arent complete or good. i suggest people take her class.
OMG....save your money on this one.....she is a disaster. As other posters have said, if she doesn't like you or your opinions you will be swimming up hill....save your time and money and enroll in a good class with a good prof.....
Just a bad experience. She likes to tell jokes about other people, and It is sometimes uncomfortable. I worked my butt off on the essays asked for her opinion everytime, did everything she asked, and STILL god a bad grade!! This class was very unfair and i speak for everyone when i say this. Save yourself.
Prof. Danner is my favorite English teacher EVER. She's smart, funny, honest and doesn't tolerate nonsense. Her feedback is thoughtful and intelligent. All these negative posters are weak and immature, bitter that someone had the guts to give them a reality check. I enjoyed coming to her class everyday.
Losers don't like her, but she's the greatest. If you like smart teachers who know what they're doing, take Danner.
Prof Danner was awesome! She is edgy, witty, and a very strong minded and strong willed lady. I learned a lot from her and she is one of those teachers that really impacts your college experience. People that dont like her are either a)mad that they didnt get a good grade for doing nothing, or b)like to be treated like they are still in preschool
Pls. save your money...if you like writing everything by hand (in the 21st century) be sure to take this class. Someone needs to drag this woman into the 21st century as she resides in the 18th century. Terrible class and terrible teacher.
Danner saved me from myself. I appreciate everything she did for me intellectually and academically. I don't know what I would have done without her. If you want a great teacher, take Professor Danner.
Danner is awesome! Her class disscusions are fun and interesting. Shes very wity and blunt. If you have trouble writing go to her office it boosted my grade by at least a letter everytime. Read the essays, go to class and see her before you turn in your essays and you can pass with an A or B. I liked her so much I've taken her for 300 and 302.
Very frank and insensitive. She likes to cuss a lot and loves critiquing other peoples' situations. She plays favoritism; don't take her if you do not have a strong, fun, "kiss-ass" personality.
She is a great teacher and a nice person. She is hilarious and fiery. She reminds me of myself.
Shes a good professor, but shes kinda intimidating and not very clear what she wants you to write about. My essay grades were all over the place, but her class is easy, just ask a lot of questions about how she wants a paper written. Watch out though, she might hurt your feelings with her boldness
To do well in this class, you've got to be a good writer. She's a very tough grader, and the essay prompts are very vague, with no direction whatsoever. It's a very philosophical class, so if you like writing about concrete topics, don't take this class.
very witty and blunt. Love abstract people. Love to poke fun at students. Not for the faint hearted. Subjective grader.
Lisa is a great teacher and will help with anything. However, grades hard and if you think you can do it I highly suggest her.
Danner is an extremely critical professor. Grades essays HARD! DO NOT take this class if you are an average writer! WARNING: This class is a good way to trash your GPA (even if you do all of her assignments)!
I have taken four classes with this wonderful woman. I will admit she scared me senseless during the first few weeks, but then I found the light. She is the English God. If you don't love her then you are a lazy bum or an idiot who doesn't pay attention or reads the homework. I have taken a dozen English Professors and Danner is my favorite.
The best and most interesting professor I have had. She is helpful and smart, know what she's talking about. I learned more than I ever thought I would in her class.
Danner is not an easy A, doesnt sugar coat anything, and will call you out on your stupid questions. HOWEVER, shes one of the best and funniest teachers Ive ever had. Cooperate with her, and shell cooperate with you. Very helpful, and her class isnt dreadful to go to. I suggest everyone takes Danner, unless you cant handle sarcasm here and there.
this teacher rocks, dont be lazy and cooperate. if you are lazy dont take her and if you dont cooperate, prepare to take thors hammer to the face.
She is wonderful. She is sarcastic and rude in such a funny clever way. I love her! I have taken her every semester. Go Danner! ... "I'm done with you people!" haha :D
As a teacher, she was definitely able to improve a students level of collegiate writing; however she lacked the ability to convey her insights. She grades more harshly if you disagree with her opinions and tends to find flaws that are not apparent. Danner commonly picks favorites, so beware of that, especially in her upper division courses.
Professor Danner is awesome! She's great at helping you to become a better writer.
AWESOME TEACHER. She is a fair grader. You deserve the grade you get by how much work you put into it. She is not bias, she does have a sense of humor that most people might not understand but does not affect the way she teaches. She is very helpful, JUST ASK. I definitely recommend her for Engwr 300.
Nasty attitude, highly unrecommended
Very cool teacher. I will definitely take her for ENGWR302
Danner's Creative Writing class is rather easy; the class gets easier as you go along in the semester. But she isn't the nicest person out there and she is a rather picky grader. Also, don't count on her getting back to you; she never answered my email. The class is kind of a have-to-do thing or else. Don't get much nourishment for writing.
Danner is sarcastic, witty, and blunt. She doesn't coddle any of her students, but she's also ferociously helpful if you prove you want to improve. Favourite teacher, by far. She is clear on her expectations, and is very clear on that if you don't meet them but complain about your grade. Succinct, crystal clear, blunt, hilarious. Sweet and loving.
Danner is a good teacher, discusses textbook stories in depth, critiques reading clearly and thoroughly. Overall, nice person, will pick on but it is all in fun, easy class if you pay attention and participate in discussion
Sarcastic, but a good teacher. Will spend time with you if needed. Has biases like most English professors. Write towards her opinion. Not and easy A.
Extremely sarcastic, funny, and entertaining. She is a die hard democrat liberal and I highly suggest writing with that in mind or you will only get a C. Take her early morning class because her humor is a good way to start the day.
I will ONLY take English from Danner. I've had her for 3 of my classes and next Semester I'm taking her for another. She's sassy and witty- Don't take her if you don't like honesty- she will call you on your BS so fast your head will spin. She's awesome. Pay attention, work hard, do your work, you'll get a good grade...Don't be a pansy.
Teaches and manages her class as if she is a high school rather than college teacher.
I think Danner is hilarious, which is what makes her classes different from others. The humor in her teaching helps keep the attention of the students to the fullest! She is a little tough on grading and work cited is a HUGE thing to get down in her classes, but over all I would reccomend her to any incoming students(;
Danner is my favorite teacher iv ever had. She makes the classes as interesting as possible and will always help you with anything you need. Definitely take her!
Lisa is very close minded it's ridiculous. I don't even know how she teaches in such a diverse school. She was never clear for me and I always left the class with questions because it seemed like if you asked a question she laughed at you. Moral of the story, don't take her!
BEST ENGLISH PROFESSOR EVER!!<3 I had her for ENGWR 300 and now I am taking her for ENGWR 302. She is so passionate, laid back, blunt(IN A GOOD WAY!). She always makes class fun and can listen to her for hours. She always does anything to help her students pass and actually cares for her students. I LOVE HER!
Definitely my favorite professor. Amazing, motivating woman. Makes class fun and interesting. She does not sugarcoat anything, very honest.
Great professor, knows her stuff... doesn't always come across clear on what exactly she wants done. Awesome regardless.
Danner comes across as harsh or rude but she knows her opinion and isn't afraid to voice it. I enjoyed taking her class. Definitely take her if you can handle a very blunt teacher.
Amazing, motivating women. Makes class interesting and is helpful when needed. She is sarcastic so if one cannot handle such you should not take her class. She is honest and won't hold back, again if you can't handle that don't take her class. Wonderful professor! Definitely my favorite.
Professor Danner is everything. tough, funny, smart just everything. I learned so much in this class aside from the subject. Danner is a great motivator and speaks of her experience, not to brag but to inform. she is tough not to be mean but to bring out the best in you. you are in good hands with her. i
She said a lot of rude things to her students therefore I don't have any respect for her. I would never take a class with her again and I do not recommend her. She let us choose topics for our papers, which is great because you can write about what you are passionate about, but then criticized us for our topics.
Class participation is a must! This is a very group orientated kind of class countless class group activities that count as points. Over all Danner tries and pull out the best in your writing and makes you think about your opinion. She is a fair grader and gives you helpful feedback for you next assessment.
Danner is a pretty good professor. She is very straightforward and it can be off-putting to some. But if you understand her personalityhumor then you will love her. Many students in the class were taking her for a second time. She is a fair grader as long as you put some thought into your assignments. Only bad part is she didn't bump up my 89% :(
If you are a student who likes structure DO not take this class! her prompts for essays dont even tell you what your objective is yet she grades them as if she spelled it out for you. Then if you ask her for clarification she either stares you down or says a snarky remark. She is completely unapproachable and doesnt listen to reason if shes wrong.
Professor Danner has been my favorite professor thus far. She challenges you to think critically. She has a great sense of humor that is sassy, yet nice. Her grading is good. I always look forward to her class.
You need to participate, her essays are 500-750 words, not hard. Suggest you go to office hours before you turn in your essay, she'll definitely help you with your weaknesses or if you don't understand. Can be sassy. do not go on your phone or she will secretly take away participation and trust me you need the points. you can do it not that bad.
Danner is awesome. If you want the A, don't take this class. If you want a great experience and a teacher who truly cares about you and has your best interest, this is your class. I never achieved an A grade on a paper, but I loved this class. The learning experience and enjoyment for the class overrides the grade.
If you're looking for an easy class that requires no effort, this isn't the class for you. But if you're looking for someone who will push you, inspire you, and overall make you want to better yourself, this is definitely the class for you. Danner is an incredible experience, and I'd definitely take her class again. It's definitely worth it.
This has been my favorite class and favorite professor so far in my attending college. I one thousand times recommend her.
Hmm.. Great class BUT very difficult. Get ready to stay up all night writing papers. Touch grader. I am a terrible writer and did ask for help but didnt really get feedback. Explicit. Text book needed and book for final. Inclass essays, random Paper assignments. recomend not shoving this with lots of other classes.
Good teacher but a large work load to take on. You can wing this class and get a b fairly easily. I procrastinated a lot always wrote my papers the nights before and never got worse than a C on anything and I'm not a good writer. But she is really funny and a good teacher overall
Engaging, funny, and very informative of the readings. Danner is very willing to help edit your essays during office hours; however, you need to take advantage of her help because if you don't already have strong writing skills, her class doesn't offer much to improve on them. She grades fairly considering she provides a lot of analysis in class.
She is one of the more laid back instructors that I've had, and is absolutely comical in her own way. I have a lot of respect for her, but if you aren't already a clever writer, be careful. She isn't super tough on grading, but she expects you to already have a few tricks up your sleeves before you walk in to class. Personally, I loved it.
Danner is a very straight-forward professor. She doesn't sugarcoat anything and she tells you exactly what she wants. Show up, read the book, participate in class, and write some papers. If you just do your work, you should have no problem passing.
Excellent english teacher! She was my first college english professor and I found the class very easy. She assigns 1 short book to read in the beginning of the semester and you won't have to discuss it or anything until the end of the semester (final is based off the book). 6 essays in total are assigned and no tests! HW & reading but doesn't check
She is very vague when it comes to prompts. The workload doesn't seem like much at first but be warned, she will surprise you with all kinds of assignments near the end of the semester along with your final essay and a novel to read. She is very conceited, and is often rude to students. If you are taking a full load, I would avoid her.
This is the third class I've had with Professor Danner and it's been my favorite. The classroom atmosphere is pretty relaxed. Basically you'll get out of the class what you put into it. She has always been willing to work with students, but they have to approach her, she's not your babysitter. I recommend her as an English teacher, for any class.
I love the sass and attitude of this professor. She demonstrates a great teaching criteria, all you have to do is apply yourself. This professor challenges students to work hard and share their unpopular ideas.
She is a harder grader but if you go into the reading writing center she helps you & it is easier to get an A. She has strong opinions and very open but try not to be intimidated she is a really cool person and she made me feel more confident as a writer. Also, if it is sunny outside and its a poetry week you might have class outside. I loved her
in class discussions were fun and we usually got out early. Journal prompts are easy. she cares about your writing ability and is there to help.
Love this professor! Professor Danner is an amazing professor; I highly recommend taking ENGWR300 with her because she will set you up for the rest of your college career. She gave us many different types of essays to write and her feedback was always helpful. Don't be afraid to ask for help because she is more than willing to help those who ask.
She is an amazing professor wants to see all her students succeed, she is more then willing to help you out outside of class. You get 5 essays over the semester, journals and readings are daily and mandatory to pass. Lets you out early almost every other day.
She is an amazing professor wants to see all her students succeed, she is more then willing to help you out outside of class. You get 5 essays over the semester, journals and readings are daily and mandatory to pass. Lets you out early almost every other day. The only homework you get is the reading besides working on your essays.
Personally, I loved her. But I will say she has a strong personality, so if you give her a reason to dislike you (talk too much in class, for example), she doesn't hide her feelings towards you. Expect weekly readings on pieces you actually have to critically think about, and there were 6 essays for my class. The class is heavy on discussion.
If you're lazy don't take. But if your willing to put in the effort and give it your all, Prof. Danner will help you in every way possible to succeed. Do the reading, showed up prepared and participate and you'll pass without a problem. If you're willing and want to learn how to write effectively there's no one better to teach you how.
I really enjoyed professor Danner's class. She is just so real and has no problem telling you what she thinks. The class was very interactive and made it a comfortable environment for students to work together. The work she makes you do is not terribly difficult as long as you keep up with the journal entries and essays you will have no problems!
A class I look forward to! Many short readings in the book, but not too much homework besides essays. Lots of in class discussions and she likes participation. Super funny and sarcastic and will call you out on your bs. I will most likely take her class for ENGWR300. Definitely recommend!
I got an "A" in her class but i would not take her again due to her personality. She is very condescending to students that have some disability. She is not very inspiring or helpful at all, I did all the work by myself. My recommendation is DO NOT take her if you're planning to go full load.
The first couple of weeks I didn't like her personality at all, but once you get used to her sarcasm and bluntness she's a cool teacher. Super funny. The essays are pretty easy and she doesn't grade them too hard. Lets us leave pretty early. I'd take her again!
her personality is annoying as hell - all of these comments about her sarcasm and funniness aren't true she tries too hard to be young and she's incredibly opinionated and self righteous. she also doesn't teach she just gives you assignments so go in and get help or teach yourself how to write certain types essays. worst english prof I've ever had
A class and professor that really shaped me as a student and writer. The material is really cool and she explains the readings in a way that is relatable and insightful. She is hilarious but also gives really helpful feedback if you reach out to her. She won't spoon feed you a good grade, you have to work hard but you grow because of it. She cares.
Class is broken between Non-Fiction, Fiction, Poetry, and Drama in which there is one of each due at the end of the three or so weeks. There are clusters of peer graders/ participants that you are placed into so you'll get to know the entire class by the end of the term. Professor is witty and quirky and will always have the last word. Love her
This is my second class with Danner and I love it. I've learned a lot after coming from high school. I didn't like her at first, but her personality grows on you. she's also super funny and keeps the class entertaining.
I kind of like Professor Danner, she is cool and funny but she is a little bit mean. Dinner grades essays a little to serious. Not only is she serious about grading the essays but she can be very intimidating.
Lisa Danner is the best prof i've ever had. This class taught me to be a better writer and critical thinker. She can come off a bit intense and harsh at first, but she genuinely cares about her students. If you can't handle being teased a little bit, I wouldn't take this class. 6 essays, 2 ICE, 4 take home.
After being in her Creative Writing class, I think Danner is a wonderful teacher. She is very passionate about the subject, which is awesome. Very down to earth person. I love writing, so doing 2-4 journals per week does not really bother me. There is some essays too. The textbook is used every day as well, but she lets class out early occasionally
If youre complaining about her personality grow up. Shes sarcastic in a funny way and knows what she's talking about. There are interesting essay prompts and one book to read for the final essay. An easy A/B if you put the effort in. She can be intimidating to shy people, but youre gonna have to learn to deal with people like that in the real world
We had journals due for every class and always writing and reading but she is super funny, no nonsense type lady. Get the book and do the work and youll be fine
Rude and honestly didnt teach me anything basically just gave assignments after assignments and mostly ranted during class
This class was a workshop, but I was still hoping there would be a bit of instruction/coaching. Otherwise it was enjoyable, and the critique from my classmates was helpful.
I do not recommend this professor to any ESL students at all .
The score says "a real gem" when you rate the professor 5 out of 5. That doesn't even cover it for me. She's hilarious and focused. She's witty and understandable. She opened my eyes and made me scratch my head when it came to several topics. On top of all of that, she helped me make one of the biggest decisions yet. She's an experience. Take her.
Really loved the ways she interpreted the readings and is very helpful outside of class. If you want a good grade I highly recommend to go to her office hours,
Would recommend her if you breezed through engwr 300, if not I dont advise you take her because, although I didnt struggle with my essays, she is a tough grader. There is a journal or 2 due almost every week. Make sure you do these because they help cushion the impact essays have. Overall, take her if you want to elevate your essay writing.
By far the best class I've ever taken. Danner is inspirational, sharp as a tack and downright comical. Class consists of thought provoking conversation and the student takes on much of the creative control with the coursework. She brought my writing and analysis to the next level. Danner is the paragon of a critical thinker within academia.
wonderful, best English teacher
What a disaster. She uses a very authoritarian(vs authoritative) aka "high demands & low responsiveness" style of teaching. Her class is easily comparable to a forced labor camp. Although I got a grade I was satisfied with(A), only take her if you love being in pain. If you're normal however, I suggest you find a better professor. Thanks.
This was an amazing course. She is so inspiring, witty, hilarious, and just an overall great teacher. Because of this class, I fell in love with writing and expressing myself through this medium. I enjoyed all of the readings, and I have never enjoyed reading in my life! She was so awesome and always warmed my heart. I looked forward to her class!!
She's relaxed, so it was comfortable to talk with her. 4 long essays (1k words for the first, increments higher for next ones), 2 short essays (500 words). She grades slow, but the avg essay grade was 70-85%. 2 of the essays it was around a 67%, but all of them likely skewed low because using mean than median. Weekly easy A journals. Book @ libgen
Do not take this course in the summer if you are a student who has a disability you will not be able to keep up. Classroom meetings are only useful to review essay rough drafts and she grades waaaay to hard
Decent amount of reading, but good discussions during class time/workshop. Professor Dinner is hilarious, fair, and entertaining. I took this class over the summer semester but didn't feel overwhelmed with the readings. Overall 4 essays and the novel was interesting. Great professor and I would definitely take another class in the future.
While the workload wasn't too heavy (2 or 3 assignments weekly with an essay every 4 weeks). She doesn't offer much structure in her class or assignments. Which is can make or break your experience in this class. I ended up loving this type of class, but I do recognize that this classroom style may be challenging for others. I
I loved this class and Professor Danner. It is set up in a way where you are more independent, however, Professor Danner is more than happy to support and guide you if needed. The essay topics also allow a lot of freedom, you can get very philosophical and creative which is unlike any writing course I've taken.
Time in class to write essays, assignments helped build up to essays, a lot of work though. Some essay instructions unclear, but something is better than nothing. Lets you redo one essay. A lot of reading- White Noise by Don DeLillo and a textbook. Made me get two books for writing- only used the textbook, not the grammar one. Chill as a person.
As an online class, she had weekly lectures that were pointless. She did not teach anything, all she did was talk about random things for an hour and 20 minutes, or ask each person in the class what they were writing for the essays. 4 essays, easy to do good on them if you know how to write already. Doesn't give tips to write better.
Took ENGWR300 with her over the summer semester. Professor Danner was really nice and funny, though she assigned a lot of work per week, with very few assignments making up the whole of your grade. She does not offer office hours during the week with the exception of extra time after class. Use email for questions, not canvas, she might not answer.
Horrible. Extremely condescending. If you disagree with her political views she will call you out in class and make fun of you. Assumes everything is AI. Lecture was pointless. In summer was 3 hours long. 3 textbooks. 8 assignments a week and 1 essay a week. Worst in Teacher at FLC. I would rather be in a prison camp than take this class again.
She was nice and funny, though she assigned much work each week. She is also very kind and genuinely cares about her students. However, she only allows one revision for the 4 essays assigned, and her grading is quite strict. It's crucial to read the directions carefully to avoid losing points, it is hard to bring your grade back up if you mess up.
Professor Danner's class is a rewarding challenge. While the workload can be demanding, her engaging lectures and detailed feedback elevate your writing. Using unstuckstudy alongside the textbook helped me succeed. Definitely worth taking if you want to improve your essay skills.
DO NOT TAKE HER, save yourself the time and effort. very rude and condescending. Has favorites and it wont be you! she thinks very highly of herself and acts like shes in her early 20's when shes pushing 60. weird and unusual to have as an educator.
You will have to spend a lot of time figuring out what words to use in your essay because if you don't choose the right ones she likes she will claim it as AI. She will tell you that nobody writes or talks like that. I would suggest a professor who is not so high on the AI witch hunt because you could be wasting time and money taking this class.
Super super heavy on AI. No matter what you write she will claim it as AI. Does not give feedback on work.
I took her 8-week course and it was manageable. She's assigns lots of readings from the textbook each week, but I think they're very insightful. There were about 3-5 writing homework assignments due each week and 4 essays due bi-weekly, so be prepared to put on your thinking caps and write a lot.
Lisa Danner is very funny and entertaining I enjoyed her class even as a stem student. There is a lot of homework, but not hard. You will actually learn a lot in this class if you don't wanna learn you're not gonna get an A. I would highly recommend for English Majors. Essays are not hard to do on and she's always there for her students.
A tough grader if she doesn't like you or your topic. Overall it's 3 essays and a final essay on the book you read at the end. Has favorites and is very condescending. Assumes you use AI on everything. Avoid this professor if you want to save your grade. She will never give you 100% because "no one is perfect".
I've taken Ms. Danner's classes for ENGWR 33/300, as well as her ENGWR 301 class. Each semester I've had her as a professor, I've felt my writing evolve. She is very encouraging and will reciprocate the energy you give her course, especially if you are consistently putting forth the effort (making contact outside of class, asking questions).
She WILL accuse you of ai with no proof or reason. Avoid this teacher at all costs. She will give you automatic zeros because she thinks you used ai. Drop this teacher's class.
Take her class if you want to hate yourself for doing so later. Hands ai accusations out like she needs to do it to live.
Horrendous teaching. Didn't teach even a single thing across weeks and weeks of classes. Loves to accuse everyone and their mother of using ai.
Half the class was failing because of her calling everyone's writing 100% AI. That should tell you everything.
never take her awful class rather kms
If you value your GPA, avoid this class. Assignments get flagged as AI with no explanation and no willingness to review real proof.
Insanely high on the ai witch hunt. AVOID AVOID AVOID.
Never ever take her class. Worst teacher I've ever had.
If you write more than two cohesive sentences she thinks it's AI. That's how bad it is.
Honestly feels like she just guesses who uses AI. No logic behind it at all. She wants to fail as many people as possible and applaud herself
worst teacher oat
drop asap horrible
Thinks if you write at all well then you have to be “uSiNG ai” and will give you an auto zero and f your grades.
Horrendous teaching. Didn't teach even a single thing across weeks and weeks of classes. Loves to accuse everyone and their mother of using ai.
Take her class if you want to hate yourself for doing so later. Hands ai accusations out like she needs to do it to live.
My entire experience in this class was dominated by inaccurate AI accusations with zero evidence. I would not recommend this instructor to anyone who wants their work graded fairly.
Bro this class is a disaster. Everyone getting hit with AI accusations left and right. It's insane.
She really doesn't teach you anything your basically teaching your self.
I took her class Fall 2024. Was a little scared because of the reviews here, but she was great! Super funny, and easy to talk to in my experience. We had 4 essays through the semester, and I actually enjoyed them since the prompts were really open-ended. She's not a super lenient grader, though, so you may struggle if you aren't good at writing.
My entire experience in this class was dominated by inaccurate AI accusations with zero evidence. I would not recommend this instructor to anyone who wants their work graded fairly. b
Worst class I've taken. So many of us got slapped with AI for literally writing normally. Makes no sense.
You'll turn in your own writing and she'll STILL hit you with the AI instant 0. Grades destroyed for no reason.
This was the only class that made me want to drop out just from how unfair it was. So many wrong accusations.
Doesn't give feedback, doesn't explain anything, just “AI this, AI that.” Completely useless class.
Turned in my own work. Got accused. Turned in another essay which was completely my own. Accused again. Like bro what??
I don't even know what I learned because everything got marked AI anyway. Total waste of time.
You can show 100 screenshots proving everything is your own work, she won't care. Still calls it AI. What's the point??
Honestly felt like she WANTED to fail people. So many instant zeros. Literally no chance to defend yourself.
Take her if you like pain and suffering also she targets you if she doesnt like you and wants to fail everyone
Unfit to step foot onto a school campus.
10 years in a prison labor camp would be more enjoyable than a second in her class
Horrendous
awful awful awful
NEVER EVER TAKE TS CLASS
This course felt less like a writing class and more like fighting false accusations every week. I learned nothing except how unfair the grading process can be.
I spent more time defending myself from false AI flags than actually learning. This is the most stressful and discouraging class I've ever taken.
The instructor automatically assumes your work is AI if you write even slightly well. Be prepared for zeros regardless of how hard you work.
My grade tanked because the horrendous professor labeled all my work as AI without any explanation. Absolutely do not take this course.
I submitted extensive evidence proving my writing was my own, and it was ignored. This is not a fair or supportive learning environment.
This is the only class I've ever had where my own human work gets dismissed immediately.
Really would never recommend
