she is a great teacher if you like to learn and listen to lectures about history.
Great teacher! I learned a lot and it was very easy. First time in my life I enjoyed a history class. Her lectures are very clear and interesting. She is very helpful if you have trouble with anything. She will give you all possible chances to succeed. Plus, she remembers her student.
extremly easy. only a little 5 question quiz at the end of the week no homework or class work.
It is a lecture class but she makes it interesting and very clear. She is always willing to help her students in any ways possible. There is a 5 question quiz on the reading every week, an essay, & of course the midterm and final, but she grades fairly and is sometimes more than generous. I never read, just listened to the lectures and ended w/ a B
She is OK. Lots of boring lecture though. Not sure sometimes how much she knows about the topic. But Ok if you need the class.
Mrs DeFraga is awesome, and so was her class!
Defraga really knows her stuff and is very passionate about her subject. Yes, it is a lecture only class, but if you like history, then you will find Defraga to be a good lecturer. Not a whole lot of points in the class...so don't take the participation and quiz points lightly. They add up real quick.
She is a very good history 7B teacher but not a womens history teacher. I encorage people to be feminist but her and the people in this class were not feminist but man haters. If you can swing any arughment to make the man wrong and to make women put upon this is the class for you.
hard grader on essay portions of tests but a great teacher very respectful and kind.
Very friendly and helpful. Lectures are boring and investigation into the material is very superficial. Two research papers allow for more in-depth exploration. Tests are sinfully easy.
Not only did I think this woman was brilliant when I took her class she made history interesting. She obviously knew her stuff and one could tell she loved talking about our country's past. She is helpful, she remembers her students, her lectures are the OPPOSITE of boring, I was shocked when I read that some people thought so. I loved the class
I honeslty hate history, but Mrs. Defraga makes it SO interesting!!! She really loves what she does/teaches, which to me is so important! She doesn't rack your brain with stupid dates.. she tells you the interesting things that you'll remember :) I HIGHLY reccomend her!!!!!
My favorite teacher in 2 years at Cuesta. She is incredibly eloquent, funny, intelligent, approachable, and understanding. I always hated history, and I actually looked forward to her lectures. And, for a history text, the book was actually pretty interesting too. I'm pretty sure everyone must take a history class--take it with DeFraga!!!
Mrs DeFraga is wonderful. She is articulate, cheerful, and very very fair with all her students. She has a lot of energy, and her lectures are always interesting and worry free. I would highly recommend her to people who want a teacher that does not play favorites and is purely genuine.
DeFraga is an incredible professor. Her teaching is extremely clear. She is very organized. She is very gracious. She is very helpful. Do your reading! The class is a real great learning experience, but at the same time, not stressful. DeFraga finds the perfect balance of education.
She is incredible. enough said.
Took DeFraga for Hist 207a and Hist 239. Got B's in both classes. It's possible to get A's if you have time to study. I didn't study for the tests and still got B's. So if you don't want to study and are happy with a B then she is the one to take. DeFraga knows History and is super intelligent. She is nice and wants to help you. Very cool woman!
Super nice teacher. Lectures are clear and helpful and have everything needed for tests. ONLY class I attended consistently all term because it was actually pleasant to be in. Really flexible with schedules. Quizzes on reading but easy. Nice teacher.
Very fun and energetic
By far my favorite professor at Cuesta. She is SO nice and very helpful. She genuinely cares about her students, and knows everyone's name by week two. You can tell she loves what she does, she make History interesting, and I hate history. But I loved her class!!! HIGHLY reccommended! :)
love her, super fun, always willing to help!
Great Class!
totes hilair! made class fun and easy to understand! if only i'd done my homework!
love her, so is so nice and very funny sometimes:] she makes history so much fun and i never fell asleep in class!
Lisa's class was a total joke. A lot of the information she gave during lectures didn't pertain to the test or wasn't even valid. Spent large parts of the class period talking about things on TV. Overall, very poor experience.
Best history class ever! I didnt want her lectures to end at times she was riveting. Her tests were a challenge & she gave little homework. It really hurts to miss a lecture because she gives so much info each class. It is a lot of reading, you have to do the reading! But she makes it fun and interesting.
Great teacher! She is very fair and is very helpful to all that ask. Class is fun and interesting. Homework is light, but a few reading assignments. She gives clear study guides for all 3 test (final not comprehensive.) I wish 201B was in my needed curriculum so I can take her other class. If you can enroll in her class, then you are lucky!
I was very disappointed with Defraga. She was recommended to me so I had high expectations. She's very nice, easy course, comprehensible material. The main problem I had with her was her attendance! She missed about 10-15 classes during Spring 2o12 and I'm not even kidding. This made me not want to go to class at all. Very frustrating!
She's hilarious at times and makes everything clear and easy to listen to. I would highly recommend her.
She's an absolute babe. Talk to her if you need help because she's really helpful when you actually spend time talking to her. She makes lectures way more interesting than it was & her only problem might be she does cancel classes from time to time due to her twins.. But overall YES. There's no hesitations.
I had her at 7:30AM and waking up that early to history seems deadly but she made it actually entertaining. Her lectures are all very clear and she uses lots of pictures to connect with the material better. She misses class all the time and doesn't care about the students attendance very much. She's super flexible on due dates. Study for her tests!
She is one of the best teachers I have had. Makes history class not boring at all. She is very clear and the test are pretty easy when you do the study guides and she does a good job at answering any questions. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
She is very entertaining and cool and all, but this semester she missed literally SIX classes. It came to the point where she didn't even teach us out of the book anymore, but more so off the study guide for the exam, in which involved a lot of cramming. The homework is easy but, the tests not as. i wish she'd be a little more organized.
She tries to be so funny and is not one bit funny at all. She waits for laughs after telling jokes and thinks she's so cool. Before every sentence she starts it with "uhmmmm" "so yeahhhh" and she drags out the last word in every sentence. It's surprising that a teacher that has been teaching for a while can have such poor speech skills.
This is a great class. I had to take history for my Ged I failed two times by two other teachers. I feel I understand History for the first time in my life. It's great to have a teacher who can laugh and make History come to life.
Her lectures are a lot of fun. Yes, she does have a tendency to cancel class, but she will modify tests and homework and not hold you responsible for what was missed. Good teacher, she clearly loves her topic.
Yes, she did tend to miss more than a few classes but whatever info she missed due to her absences she removed from her tests. Attendance was never taken, HW was super easy, & she gave study guides with exact terms & topics for each test. It's obvious that she loves the topic & if you want an easy- going class I strongly recommend this one!
My favorite teacher! I've had her for two semesters now and love her. She makes history interesting and actually understandable. She's literally the funniest woman and wants everyone to get a good grade. Ive never heard of anyone not loving her
DeFraga is seriously the nicest, most helpful, most entertaining teacher. She's the best history teacher I've ever had, by far, and made history class something to really look forward to. I seriously love her! And I don't know why anyone would ever give her a negative review...Take her class! Do the study guides & assignments though.
She is very easy going. Not the most entertaining class, and a little more difficult if you're more of a visual learner. But she is really nice, and funny, and still an amazing teacher and really knows what she is talking about. Very helpful also. Highly recommend her!
Mrs. Defraga is a great teacher who wants you to succeed. She makes the subject interesting and offers a lot of extra help. You only use the book if you read the chapters and do the study guides from them like she recommends. She missed class sometimes but always lets you know and makes sure you get the information you need to.
Very nice lady, but her personal life caused like 5 class cancellations, so I can assume she won't be teaching here much longer. At least on the SLO campus. If you want an easy grade, shes good for that, but not much else.
Easiest class ever, gives full points on homework as long as its completed, tests are easy because she gives a great study guide. shes also really down to earth, understanding and very funny. I recommend this class to anyone interested in learning history the fun way
I loved her class so much! She is funny and always makes the work easy to do. She is super understanding and willing to work with your schedule. She gives study guides 2 weeks prior to the test and everything it is all on the test! Easy class and great teacher! Could have gotten an A but got lazy
Very funny, and very knowledgeable on her subject. She really makes it easy for you to succeed, so as long as you keep up with notes and reading you should do great. Several written assignments but they aren't too difficult. Great if you are a history geek, but even non-geeks should enjoy the class.
DeFraga is so sweet. She did cancel more than a handful of classes (and most of the time didn't email ahead of time), but she makes up for it by going easier on tests, offering extra credit, etc. Office hours are a bit inconvenient but makes sense with 3 kids. Few easy hw assignments. Tests were harder than I expected. I enjoyed her and her class.
I loved Mrs Defraga! She is an amazing history teacher and so passionate about the subject. She had me so interested in the topics and I enjoyed coming to class to hear her lecture. She cancels class often, and I was always disappointed when she did because I learned so much! She is fair and thorough. Take Defraga! You will be happy you did!
Great professor keeps you interested and guides you toward success in the class
Really funny and nice but has canceled class more times than half the time
i loveeeeeeeeeee defraga. She not only is full of knowledge, but is genuine and absolutely hilarious. I have never enjoyed a history class as much as I have enjoyed hers.
Very nice and likable but very unorganized and her study guides are worthless. She cancelled class ALOT and lectures are pointless. Goes off subject and covers nothing in lectures. If you want to learn something don't take this class. Easy A, all tests are open note open book but study guides won't prepare you.
Just make sure you do the study guide and you will do fine!
DeFraga is great, I had a mix up with my final times and she made sure to help me out. I loved being in her class, her great personality and humor made it bearable. She did cancel class a lot this semester, but she made sure that never affected our grade and she e-mails before hand. An overall great teacher!
She was a good teacher. I can tell you though if you're looking to actually learn I wouldn't recommend it because she talks about random things and cancels class almost every week (which we loved) lol. BUT its an easy A, and she's super sweet and works around us. :-)
I usually don't give bad ratings, but i think it is important to be aware that this instructor is fairly disorganized and misses/ cancels class a lot. She does work with you if your struggling, granted I probably wouldn't be struggling so badly if she was a little more organized, came to class every week, and broke the material up better.
I was really looking forward to this class but I was very disappointed. Teacher cancels class a lot and is very disorganized. I usually don't do terrible in history, but at this point, I'm just hoping I will pass with a decent grade. Definitely take another teacher is possible. She can be very nice though.
Although she is a very kind person, due to the amount of classes canceled (which is 7-8 now in my semester with her), I cannot fully gain as much from this class as it makes it harder to learn with everything disorganized. Not to say a class canceled now and again is bad, but with this many it really does hurt the class and your learning from it.
Don't get me wrong, Mrs. DeFraga knows her stuff, but when class is canceled literally once a week it's basically an impossible class to pass. She's super nice and really wants you to learn but I definitely would not take this class again. There are lots of other history profs that actually show up to class and are much better than she is.
She is a good teacher, but she cancels class ALOT. I feel like I haven't learned anything in this class. Her slides are pictures most of the time and they aren't very informative. She lectures and talks a lot sometimes gets off topic. Probably going to have to retake this class online so I can get a better grade unfortunately.
This teacher is great if you want to actually pass... lol. No homework and class time is usless but if you want an A this is the way to go. Quizzes in class are pointless and tests are on the three pages of notes that you took for that section.
Defraga is a sweet lady and approachable. Shes very understanding of her students personal lives. Honestly an extremely easy class; she takes the quiz questions directly from the practice quiz bank and her study guides tell you exactly what you need to know. I recommend this class to someone looking for a lighter workload.
Lisa is an awesome teacher! Her lectures aren't super long and boring, and her class isn't super hard. Show up, do your reading, and you will be fine! There will be 2 essays to write in class along with each test, so be prepared for those ahead of time. Besides that Mrs. Defraga is a great teacher. (Tip: Make sure to use the website she tells you!)
Super sweet teacher! For the tests all you have to do is read about the terms she provides in the book. The quizzes are taken directly from the website she provides (they are the exact same and in the same order). There isn't any homework you have to turn in besides the primary sources which are easy. wonderful class :')
I love Lisa!! TAKE her for 207a or 207b. You have such a higher chance of getting an A in her class than anyone else's class. Her lectures are great, I never get tired or bored in her class, and she seriously wants her students to get good grades. Tests and quizzes are on exactly what she tells you they will be on.
She is a very nice person and knows a lot about the subject, and is very willing to help you earn a good grade. She is easy to reach outside of lecture and really does care about her students, very fun easy going personality. She does cancel class often so if that will bother you then I don't recommend but for everybody else she is great.
She cancels class A LOT, does not take attendance after the first two weeks, has really fun lectures (but they have nearly nothing to do with the exams), all quiz answers are online and she will literally give you the answers to the study guide if you ask her. Super sweet lady who really cares about the students. Oh and final was open book!!!
really great take her class
Attendance not mandatory but there's quizzes very often. Quizzes are pretty much free points bc she gives you a website for a study quiz where all the questions/answers are the exact same ones. Tests are difficult, but provides study guides. Gives extra credit 2 times. A few reading assignments but usually free points. Cancels class a lot.
Sweetest teacher ever!! She really cares about her students and wants them to do well. Her class is pretty straight forward and the assignment throughout the semester are very easy! The tests are half multiple choice and half a randomly picked essay prompt but it's fine if you study and do the study guide provided!
Prof. DeFraga is very straight foward and clear on assignments. She is very nice and cares a lot and is also accesible out of class. The tests have things from the book, that arent discussed in class, so make sure you read.
Lisa is one of the best teachers I've had at Cuesta. She really cares about her students, gives awesome lectures and makes history super interesting. Her assignments are easy and don't take long and her tests are open book & open note. The class is an easy B, but if you actually try you'll get an A.
I loved this class! Lisa is so nice and workable. There was a few times I made a mistake on a turn in date and she was completely understanding. Her lectures are amazing too, not boring, I really enjoyed learning through her. There was weekly chapter guides due but they are so easy. Make sure to stay for study days, they pretty much give you an A.
Professor DeFraga is amazing! She's a total history lover, which makes the class so much better - she really loves what she teaches about! Homework about once weekly, but pretty easy. She gives really specific study guides and the exams are pretty aligned with them. Overall a great professor!!
Very nice, very reasonable. Sometimes a little scattered. Exams are very detailed, but extra credit more than makes up for it.
She is the sweetest professor ive ever met at Cuesta!! I definitely recommend her 100%!! He lectures can be a little scattered but overall shes really easy going.
Great teacher took her twice
Professor DeFraga is really enthusiastic about history and genuinely seems to enjoy teaching. However, she cancels class A LOT, she's never once responded to my emails, and it takes her a long time to grade assignments (3 weeks). I believe she's a good professor but needs to be more self disciplined and attentive to her class and students.
Super nice woman. She cares about her students and is very understanding. Lecture and grading is super straightfoward and she is very helpful after class and with any questions. She is very passionate about her work. Laid back, funny, awesome teacher. Highly recommend.
DeFraga is the best professor Ive ever had. Shes changed history for me & could easily make you want to change your major. Shes a great story teller, passionate about history, intelligent, and kind. Do the reading & show up to class and you will do fine! I feel that other professors could learn a thing or two from sitting in on her lectures!
She explains everything well and wants you to succeed
Took professor DeFraga for Hist207B in Spring 2020. She wants you to succeed and gives out helpful information. Shes very straightforward with directions, grading style and keeps you up to date with future assignments. She tends to cancel class often which wasnt a big deal for me. Make sure to keep up with the weekly reading and youll be fine.
Professor D was very sweet and clearly passionate about history. Weekly reading guides based on the textbook are required, midterm and final are multiple-choice and she gives clear study guides, one paper is due but she leaves room for creativity. She did seem overwhelmed by teaching online and did not utilize canvas efficiently, slow grader.
Professor DeFraga is amazing, and I am so glad I got to take her history course! Her lectures are clear and well said, she gives you study guides with all the topics you need to study for her exams, and she prepares you to be successful in her class! She always responds to my emails, and I never hesitate to reach out for anything I need help with!
I didn't get to know her much since this class was online and her teaching style is very much hands-off. Do the readings, study for quizzes and exams and it's an easy A.
Not super impressed with her class because she didn't really grade much and didn't put any comments on anything because she "has too many students to grade." 15 quizzes, 2 homework assignments, and 3 exams in the entirety of her class (she only actually grades the two homework assignments). Overall, it's a decent/okay class.
Ms. Defraga's HIST 207A online class was very easy. The class is all quizzes, one due every Friday at midnight. There are two writing assignments throughout the whole course. There are 3 "exams", one about a month in, then one in the middle of the course, the midterm, then one at the very end, the final. Watch all the lectures and study the text.
Professor DeFraga was an amazing professor. I took her History 207B course for Summer 2022. There were 2 - 5 chapters of reading a week, an assignment, & 10 quizzes. Overall, the class was average; there was a midterm and a final. They require lots of studying to get a good grade. The questions are fairly decent, but you have to study hard to pass.
First off I would like to say this was a online class so I can not speak to her as a in person teacher. With that being said, she takes about 1 to 2 months to enter anything in the grade book. She also clearly as no idea how to use canvas based on how hard it is to navigate her page. Tests are not terrible hard but study guides are unhelpful.
I highly recommend and enjoyed taking Professor Defraga's class. I liked her lectures; she is very excited about history! She responds quickly to emails and communicates clearly. She provides very detailed study outlines for her tests. You will pass her tests if you make flashcards and go over the topics.
Prof DeFraga was very nice and clearly loves history. Although she was disorganized in lectures and can be slow to respond to emails, she is very understanding and willing to meet up. There were 4 assignments, one being a 5-7 page creative research paper. The 50 question exams were of average difficulty but the study guides weren't very detailed.
History of American Women Online: Does not give much feedback and your entire grade depends upon very few assignments.
This class was good overall. The lectures were boring at times and her class required about a chapter of reading each week. The class consisted of three exams and three assignments. She had extra credit available which was helpful. She provided study guides for each exam and she was always willing to help you if you reached out.
I cannot say enough good things about Professor DeFraga! Her class was amazing and made me fall in love with history even more. You can see her passion and love for history when she teaches! She is also very understanding and caring of her students and is very easy to reach with questions or concerns you have throughout the semester!
Nice and interested in the topics but left like 6+ lectures for us to go through online. Communicative and understanding, easy grader but would go on long tangents about things we weren't going to be tested on. Easy tests and a few easy assignments. Only 3 tests and 3-4 assignments. Overall very easy, but felt like a time waster.
Professor DeFraga is caring, professional, and makes the material easy to digest. I really appreciated the audio lectures because I could listen to lectures at work and still keep up with working full time. Awesome professor! :)
Professor DeFraga clearly loves History, her lectures were very informative and she had lots of knowledge with the subject. Lisa is caring and is willing to help whenever possible. This class consisted of three quizzes and three exams. She also gives an opportunity for extra credit. I enjoyed taking this class. I highly recommend this class online!
Test were hard and other than that there was just small assignments and reading.
A super nice teacher who was very lenient and even exempted my class from having to write a big essay for the test. Definitely take her.
Professor DeFraga is a HOMEGIRL. I love her so much and I cannot stress this enough, she is an amazing teacher. She offers the textbook online for free, only three assignments and three tests (one being the final), and offers extra credit. The only reason I did bad in the course is because I did not study for the first two exams and did poorly.
only 3 tests and 3 "essays/questions" super easy and she gives extra credit. A little slow on the grading for assignments but i would take her again
Easiest class I have ever taken.
DeFraga is a great professor. She is caring and makes her class easy. The class itself is based on three writing assignments and three tests. The textbook is free, and I would recommend reading it or watching the lectures (rather than both) to save time. She offers a lot of extra credit and allows for revisions on assignments. Very nice!
Great lectures. Very informative. Do not skip them. Some test information I remembered because of her lectures. They are a little long, break them up if needed. She gives study guides. Go through every item on the study guide & make sure you know it by heart for tests. If you do this, tests will not be difficult. She does offer some extra credit.
i love lisa! took her for 2 hist classes, in person and online.her lectures always made me laugh and i felt very engaged in what she was saying which is important in history. she also does recorded lectures for her online class which i found super helpful! she only gives a few assignments ,but they aren't tough+ she gives extra credit. highly rec!
If you're taking this class as an elective for completing a major that is unrelated - do yourself a favor and take this class online! BEYOND easy to fly through. I forget I'm even in this class since there's barely any work. Exams are easy. Assignments are easy. (I had a friend that took this class in person and failed. She grades harder in person)
The work load isn't that stressful it was honestly one of my easiest college classes I've taken as a high school student.
Professor DeFraga's class is engaging, with informative lectures. The workload is manageable - just stay on top of readings and exams. I found unstuck ai super helpful for studying.
The assignments are few, but layout of the class is confusing, possibly better inperson. It appears there are no assignments on the module pages and yet there are 3 random assignments. This class could benefit from a consistent assignment giving and clear posting on the module page. Teacher is difficult to get a hold of and work with.
She was a very good teacher, the online class is only graded on 2 assignments and 2 midterms, the assignments only took about an hour and I got full credit. As long as you don't miss anything its a very easy class.
Pretty easy class, you can get an easy A by doing all assignment's, but do get ready to read a lot.
She leads a Great class. Her love for history shines bright in her lectures. She cares a lot about all her students no matter if they show up a lot. There is three big quizzes you can't mess those up
Simple class for the most part, a few assignments in the class, but when there are, they are fairly straightforward. There will be 3 tests in the class: 2, 50 MCQ, and 1, 25 MCQ, and an essay. As long as you try on the assignments and do well on the tests, you should easily pass.
