Prof. Disch is an absolutely fantastic professor. She is the only professor I know of that can make a lecture period seem like a discussion section. She moves throughout the room while lecturing and makes the material interesting. There's no textbook, only a thick course pack. No exams, but the "microthemes" are a bit challenging.

Class was full of interesting discussion. Professor Disch really seems like she's having fun teaching the material, and that stimulated class and made it fairly enjoyable. In a world of frankly, pretty weird professors, Professor Disch was normal, outgoing and intelligent. I'd recommend her to anyone.

If you actually want to learn about political theory, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. This class is a glorified American history course, you learn about the Puritans for about three weeks. This is not a joke: We spent more time talking about beastiality than socialism. If you are truly interested in theory, make sure to take the class with another prof.

The professor is great, but the GSI's this year were brutal. There are no tests, but the microthemes are graded very tough. If you don't know anything about polisci and want to check it out - take another polisci like 111 or something - not a political theory class that is unorganized like this one.

Very interesting and passionate about the material. However, the grading system is awful. There are no tests, but your grade is practically based on 3 essays that are graded VERY brutally. DON'T TAKE AS YOUR FIRST POLISCI CLASS. It is more of a discussion than a lecture. she walks around and calls on people - the actual discussions are pointless

This was an extremely easy class, and the topics presented (American Political Theory) were interesting. The microthemes are easy as long as you take notes in lecture and go to office hours. I would recommend this class to anyone, regardless of their major. Prof Disch gives interesting lectures, she's funny and has spunk. Take this class!

Professor Disch is amazing. She breaks down her readings with amazing clarity and treats lecture like a in-depth discussion. She takes boring political theory and make you want to learn about it! However, the GSI's have no clue what they're doing. Don't let this ruin the class for you though. Go to her office hours! She is SO helpful!

Really helpful at office hours. Go to lecture she really explains everything, and she presents the material in a very interesting way. A lot of your grade in the class depends on participation so it's really generous. Only thing that sucks can be the GSIs if you get a bad one but that's a risk at Michigan in general.

Her class is super dry. Attendance is a huge factor (seriously, don't not show up to lecture for half of the time) which can either make or break you. Disch uses iclicker so you have to come to lectures, but I have never seen her lecture without a ton of energy and spirit. The course is interesting but it has a ton of readings and reading quizzes, but the grading is fair. If you are looking to take an introductory polsci course, this is the one to take with Disch.

Prof. Disch is an enthusiastic passionate lecturer despite how incredibly boring the class content is. Although it isn't interesting, the class is very easy. Grading is fair and the assignments aren't hard at all. No exams or big papers. There's a lot of reading, but it doesn't need to be closely examined to get by. Disch is a very fair professor.

Lisa Disch is an amazing professor. This sem she utilized partial online lectures, so she would let us leave after about 50 mins of in-person lecture. Reading quizzes are relatively easy, and paper grading is fair. The content can be quite a drag since you're stuck in the 1800s for most of the class, but she makes up for it with her enthusiasm.

Overall, Disch was a great professor. While I never really had the chance to form a connection personally, as it was a large lecture, she was one of my better instructors. In-person lectures are mostly discussion-based and provide additional insight into the readings (there is A LOT of reading). The GSIs grade your work, so you need a good one.

Funniest professor I have ever taken a class with, no one else was laughing at her jokes (at least not out loud) but I was literally dying I could not hold in my laughter! Her lectures are literally TedTalk quality, they are super entertaining and informative. Grading varies by GSI, my GSI's grading was super annoying so fought for an A.

Professor Disch tried to make her lectures funny and engaging, and you can tell she cared a lot about her students. There were only a few things we were graded on, and they were mostly papers, so it depended on your GSI's grading for that. There were also reading quizzes, but you only had to take 12 and you could choose when to take them.

Prof. Disch was amazing. This class is reading heavy, and it is easier if you have a genuine interest in political science. However, my GSI made this class difficult, he often didn't show up for discussion and offered little to no instruction or help on assignments and then punished nearly everyone in his section with a low participation grade.
