She is a good teacher, very thorough, and eagar to help!
Easy exams, funny...
She is alright, the class is fairly easy but very very boring. I don't like the way she teaches; you never really understand what is actually happening as far as in chemistry, its just follow these steps to get some answer.
She's alright...good lectures, tests are okay as far as difficulty, but they are pretty long. She doesn't always show up on time for them either...
Great teacher, awesome notes. Posts old tests, no surprises. Lectures are okay, she trys to keep you entertained, but she gives you the info you need to do well in the class. Very Approachable . . taking her for Ochem!
She's not too bad. Her test are pretty straight foward, but she does assign lots of owl assignments (easy though). She's really helpful, and joyful. She's kinda cute too, for a professor!
She's great! Very helpful, very funny and very thorough in covering the class topics. Best teacher I've ever had.
I only had her until she got pregnant, and she left us with her husband. Tests are easy if you go to class, do the OWL and do the assigned problems in the book
only hand writes notes on board. tests are long, but average difficulty.
ok teacher, writes everything on board. Kinda boring though, if you can stay awake in hte class, you'll do well.
She's OK, but not as good as spurgeon.
Average. The tests are quite difficult and example problems cannot always be found in the lecture notes or book. Be ready to do some work. She also likes to pick on people and embarrass random people. But she's okay in general.
The class is hard, but she is one of the better professors teaching it. She is very easy to talk to, and always answers question clearly. Tests were not easy, but looking over the posted past tests really help.
great teacher! Sexy voice. Explains concepts very well.
She's the least difficult of the ochem teachers. She's very fair, and I've never left a lecture without understanding what she was talking about.

Best Ochem teacher on campus. Helpful and wants students to succeed. Still a ridiculously hard class, but this teacher makes it more bearable.
She was one of my best general chemistry teachers, SHE ROCKS!!
She puts all the info on the board and explains concepts thoroughly. Her tests are not too difficult if you study and go to her office hours, discussion, and review sessions. She posts previous test online along with other problem sets that help tremendously! The book also comes with online interactive problem sets that help too.
She might be good for teaching Genreal Chem but definitely not Organic Chem. Take it with someone who has a real knowledge.
long tests
Awesome teacher!! One of the best teachers I have ever had seriously!!!
She is on OK teacher. Her exams are very tough. There is no graded homework for the class so the tests are the only grades. To do well in this class, you have to study A LOT and be a good test taker.
Really nice and funny :-)
This is a tough class, but she teaches it very well. You need to study a lot, but that's just because of the material. She makes it as clear as it can be considering what it is.
she is very good at explaining the material. she's really not that tough.
Another good rating. This is from someone who struggles with chemistry. Do everything she suggests (problem sets, book problems, etc.) because it is EASY to fall behind. If you keep up with the material she is good at explaining it. She also drops your lowest test score which is nice.
She is extremely helpful when you need it. She rambles sometimes and goes off in a different direction, but it gives you a break from Ochem for a bit. She is organized and clear about everything! GREAT PROFESSOR!
I really liked Dollinger. Not only was she highly intelligent in the field, but she was so clear and effective. She looks you in the eye, and doesn't continue until you understand a concept. I got a B in the class, but that's because half the class was GRO'ing it, which elevated the average. Good course, though. Dollinger's kinda cute, too.
Great! No matter what ppl say, YOU HAVE TO STUDY! Start in the habit of KNOWING the material the day she teaches it; SO easy to fall behind! Go to office hours, takes the time to get to know you. Do practice probs from book...exam Q's sometimes come directly from these. Not necessary to go to Spurgeon's lectures simultaneously, she teaches well.
She was really nice, her lectures were very logically organized, and the tests weren't all that bad. I didn't do well because I had a very poor chem foundation, but I knew what I was doing when I was studying, which was a big step. Liked her!
I took Ochem with Dollinger three years ago, and she still recognizes me and says hi on campus! She was very helpful in her office hours and is so precious looking.
Lectures are amazing. Very fair grader. Tests not too difficult. Drops lowest exam score. Cumulative final. Dont talk in class though!
AMAZING teacher. Notes are clear, and pretty much all you need. Tests are very fair. Two points extra credit per test (102 points total), with lowest exam score of four dropped.
Good professor of o chem, but DO NOT COUNT ON HER! Don't expect her to be in her office hours, at her discussion periods, or to return messages. She is extremely flaky! If you have a good handle on o chem then she is good, her tests are fair and straightforward. But if you need help along the way, STEER CLEAR. Far too undependable and irresponsible
Good teacher, she lays out her notes well. Her tests are hard, she curves by like a percent or 2..very little compared to the other ochem teachers. She made the majors exams harder then the regulars so it didnt help alot to study from the previous years. STUDY FALL 08 and Spring 09 exams the most. PRACTICE!
Dr. Dollinger is a great professor! She explains the material clearly, goes slowly so everyone is able to follow, and is a naturally funny person. This class will not only teach you a lot, but also be entertaining. I've preceptored for other o-chem professors and I think she is one of the best!
Dr Dollinger is fantastic! Ochem is going to be difficult no matter who you take it with, but she makes it endurable. Her teaching is phenomenal - I never had to read the book prior to lecture to understand, and she always asks for questions in class. She writes everything on the board that you'll need to know. Take her if you can.
Dr. Dollinger is a great teacher. She's a little scatterbrained and her favorite phrase is "who cares?" but she's always willing to help and she knows how to teach, and her tests are VERY fair. Very nice, not arrogant at ALL, always laughs and tells stories. If you have to take ochem, she's the teacher to have.
Dr. Dollinger is awesome! Tests are fair and straightforward. She doesn't try to trick you. She is hilarious and makes plenty of jokes, class will never get boring.
Excellent teacher, engaging lecturer, and will know your name by the first month. Far better than her husband.
Decent in Class, but she is never around and not very helpfult outside class. Never in her office hours and misses discussion periods. Tried to email but was ignored.
Dollinger is an AMAZING professor! She is fun person to be around, and she lays out the notes in a way that makes organic chemistry easy. Her tests are straight forward and she never tries to trick you. What you put in is what you get out. SOO glad I took it with Dollinger. Plus she's attractive too :P
MESO MESO MESO!! :D
Organic chemistry is naturally a challenging subject, but Dollinger does an excellent job presenting the information to such an extent that chapter readings from the book aren't mandatory. Many of her exam problems come straight out of the book problems at the end of each chapter, so definitely complete the recommended problems. Good luck.
She's easily one of the best, perhaps THE best instructor teaching orgo at the UA. Just attend class and complete ALL recommended book problems and you'll surely get a B or above. (ROFLMAO, and don't mass email a class of 200+, four months into the course begging for some magical knight in shining armor to save your grade.)
Let me put this out there - no teacher can make you magically learn OChem. However, Dollinger gives you all the tools you need to get an A. Buy the book AND THE SOLUTIONS MANUAL and do ALL the recommended problems! Make flashcards of ALL the reactions! If you don't do these two things at least, you will have a hard time even getting a C.
Dollinger is the worst professor I have ever had at the U of A (I normally do well in pre-med classes). If you have the slightest bit of a life and don't want to dedicate literally 20 hours EVERY day to this class take another teacher. She is beyond rude and could care less if the class understands her or not. So disorganized and confused.
Dollinger is an amazing 241B professor! Anyone who says differently is either failing the class because they aren't studying, or a complete moron. The tests are extremely fair, and often have material similar to book problems, problem set questions, or previous year exam questions (which she provides online). Me and my friends will be getting A's.
Dollinger does NOT make O Chem easy. Her notes are confusing, the tests are hard, and if you want a decent grade in the class you seriously have to dedicate your entire life to doing practice problems. If you're a genius you probably love her, but if you're a normal person like me, stay clear!!!
This class was by far the most difficult yet most rewarding class I have ever taken in all my years of school. Dollinger is interested in seeing you succeed. If you communicate with her, she will be there for you. Do not take the class lightly. In the end, it has been empowering to learn the language of organic chemistry and an excellent experience
This class was great. She gives you the notes so you don't have to read the book. If you do the work you will get an A, and Dollinger is extremely helpful. If you do the book problems, problem sets, and previous year exams you will succeed. Don't take too many other hard classes along with this one though, it's good to have some time aside for it.
Exams are hard, but if you go to class and discussion every time and do the problems out of the book, you should be fine. Lowest exam score is dropped as well. Only other homework is the Mastering, which is difficult to use. Easy teacher, nice, easy to approach and ask questions.
Dollinger is an exceptional professor. Ochem is not easy, it is fast paced and requires you to keep up. That said, Dollinger posts problem sets and answers, recommended book problems, and is very approachable when you have questions. Take advantage of all of these tools and you will succeed. 1 Exam is dropped and the class is curved.
Dollinger is consistent in her teaching and always has extra office hours the week of an exam. She's very approachable and listens to your questions. Final grades are curved, and book problem sets will save your grade if you do them. Discussion time is used well, make sure you go to every single one.
Dr. Dollinger is amazing. Her lectures are very clear and she is very willing to help if you are having problems understanding the material. The tests weren't unreasonably difficult. Doing book problems and going to discussion is a must.
Dr. Dollinger is an effective professor but O-Chem is still a difficult course. I suggest you structure your schedule around this class so that you are able to focus on it. Do practice problems, go to every class, start studying the week before an exam. If you fall behind you will most likely fail. I got an A without the curve doing these things.
I like organic chemistry, but it is a tough subject. Dr. Dollinger is very helpful and really wants to see everyone do well in her class. Tests are known for being difficult. Overall, I would have her again as my ochem professor.
Dollinger was a great teacher! You could easily not read the textbook and just use her notes to succeed in the course. You still need it for practice probs tho. 4 tests, lowest dropped, and required final. She also curves. An 88.6 was an A, and you had to work hard for it, but a 61 was a C, which gave people struggling a wide safety net.
Dr. Dollinger is a great professor. Her lectures are well organized and very helpful in explaining the concepts. The tests are hard, but not impossible or unfair. Discussion sessions and office hours are also really helpful in clarifying the concepts from class.
Dr. Dollinger is my favorite professor at UofA. She is well organized, tests are straight forward and fair, and is really good at teaching and explaining the material. Tests are NOT easy. You have to know the material to do good in the class but she offers a lot of reviews and practice problems.
Tough class, but Dr. Dollinger does a very good job of explaining the concepts. Go to her lectures, do her practice problems, study hard, and you'll be fine.
She's definitely a really good professor. Her lectures are on POINT! Don't miss a single class I'm telling you!
Dr. Dollinger is a great professor. She is incredibly knowledgeable and super approachable if you ever have questions. Her lectures are very straightforward and interesting. If you do the problem sets, book problems, and ask her any questions you have, you will learn a LOT and can definitely get a good grade in the course. Would recommend!
Dollinger was a really great professor, but the material was tough. Her notes were extremely helpful and organized and she always provided lots of practice, which is essential to doing well. She's sometimes intimidating to approach, but extremely helpful once you do. She teaches a little differently so it's helpful to take her both semesters.
I took Dollinger for Ochem2 having had minimal knowledge of Ochem 1. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS UNLESS YOU ARE ALREADY GOOD AT ORGANIC CHEMISTRY. Dollinger has clear lecture outlines and is great at explaning Ochem, but her tests are very hard. If I had her for the first semester of the course I might have done better. Your grade is 90% based on tests.
Dr. Dollinger is an amazing person, who clearly understand organic chemistry and can teach it well. However, if getting a good grade in this class matters to you take any other teacher, as her tests are 100x more difficult.
One of the best organic chemistry professors! She is detail oriented, which makes her lectures very beneficial; you LEARN ochem not just memorize it in her class. Her tests are pretty straight forward. If you go to class, look through the book, and study all of her old tests you will do well! She is very helpful if you go to her office hours.
The first half of the class was all stuff that I had previously learned, but as the course went on, we learned more of the new stuff and it got harder. My main piece of advice is to make flash cards!! She is always willing to help if you go to her office hours and she will stop during her lectures to make sure everyone understands the material.
Writes everything you need to know on the board and makes sure to explain everything in detail. The best chemistry professor I have had so far. I will definitely take her again!
Dr. Dollinger is a good teacher but hard to talk to. Going to class is very necessary as she tells you what topics will or will not be covered for the exams. To do well in the class, do all of her book problems, weekly recommended problems, and the old exams. Basically do everything she has for you and go to class and you will do great. I got an A.
Dr. Dollinger has fairly fast paced lecture style (miss one class, already behind) and all of your grade comes from exams. My general advice if you want to take her Ochem 2 lecture is don't skip lecture, do the organic cafe problems, and go to TA office hours before you go to hers (she can be hard to talk to if you aren't up to date on reagents).
Dr. Dollinger is an excellent teacher. She is very passionate about what she teaches and is willing to help anyone out who does not understand, whether during the actual lecture or in office hours. Second semester Ochem is a lot more mechanism-heavy, so I would suggest flash cards and lots of practice!
Like all the comments I read before I took her class, Dr. Dollinger is fantastic! So clear with her lectures, I mean wow-I wish all my chemistry teachers taught like her. Now you have to put in a lot of work for Ochem. Skipping lectures are a bad idea! When people next to me missed a day-oh man-they would come back totally lost.
Dr. Dollenger is a great professor, If you want to understand organic chemistry take her. However her tests are extremely hard.
The grades on depended on exams which is a bummer because there was no other way to help your grade. She wasted time taking about other things and by the end she was trying to get everything on the board and if you don't copy all the notes there is no other way to get them.
I loved taking her class. Her notes are very organized and make it easier to study. You need to dedicate a lot of time to this class if you want to get an A. Practice problems are a must and cramming the night before won't help.
This class is extremely difficult due to nature of the material but Dollinger makes it as easy as I think it can be. She very clearly goes through every concept and gives examples of each step along the way. Her exams are tough but I think its worth it for the detail she goes in to. Also, no electronics are allowed in the class so be aware of that.
Dollinger is a great prof! Her lectures are clear and provide for good notes to study from; she always gives examples and is willing to answer any questions you have. Her exams are a little tough, but if you go to class, do the textbook practice problems, and look over old exams, you should be fine. Would definitely recommend!
Dr. Dollinger was an excellent professor. Although her class is notorious for being extremely difficult she managed to make it seem easy. She knows what she is talking about. Do the homework even though it isn't assigned because it will definitely help.
Dr. Dollinger is awesome. She has a reputation for being a harder professor but if you go to all the lectures, do the organic cafe assignments and the optional book problems in preparation for her exams, you won't really struggle. She's very responsive to questions both in person and over email, and she's clearly very knowledgeable.
Does not provide clear material or guides. Tests come at a huge surprise with material that is not discussed adequately in the reading material or lecture.
I understand the material entirely; however, exams are a surprise.
Dollinger makes the material seem easy, but her exams are always difficult and a surprise. You definitely need to put in a lot of time outside class (do all the book problems and organic cafe) to succeed, and even then you may not succeed if you don't have a good memory. She's very nice and her preceptors are great, but it's a hard class for sure.
Dollinger's class is very hard in the fact that your grade is based solely on tests (which are known to be difficult). I did above average for all the tests and exams and finished with a 75 without a curve. Apparently if there was a curve, it was not that large as my final adjusted grade was still a C. Do not bet on the curve, and study to do well
Decent introduction to the material in each chapter but not much detail. Make sure you do as many practice problems outside of class as possible, and review her old exams. Dr. Dollinger does hold a fair amount of office hours, and responds to emails relatively quickly, which helps for clarifying questions about topics covered in class.
Fantastic! The absolute best chemistry teacher I've ever had, completely clear about what you need to know and what will be on the exam. The class is tough no matter what but she gives TONS of study material and is always more than willing to help anyone who asks. Super kind and wonderful!
One of the best professors I have had. This class is hard as it is, but you have to put in the work and she gives you so many opportunities to succeed. Very easy to talk to and get help from. I recommend doing both semesters of OCHEM with her if possible. Kind of difficult to changing teaching styles going to second semester.
She is a great teacher and I would 100% take her again. She moved fast through the material, but mostly because there was a lot to cover. The tests were hard and long for the amount of time we had (50 min) and I thought they were graded fairly, but if you have a problem with it she is more than willing to explain the grade in office hours.
I took her for both semesters of organic chemistry. I ended with an A, but it was EXTREMELY HARD TO DO SO, BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE. Your grade is basically exams. To study I did the organic cafe and the problems she posted on d2l several times. I would just keep doing the worksheets over and over. I would understand and memorize. It a lot of material.
Best organic chemistry professor ever, super knowledgeable and fantastic lectures really makes you love the material; definitely not as hard as people make her class out to be. Know your stuff and you'll get an A. Every exam administered was 100% fair
Such an amazing and caring professor. Organic Chemistry is a difficult subject, but Dr. Dollinger makes it so fun and so interesting. Her lectures are AMAZING! Best out of anyone at UA - gives very organized and structured notes. Lots of study material and old exams, she cares about each student understanding the material! Take her if you can.
Dollinger is one of the best professors I've had at U of A. She is VERY knowledgeable and you can tell that she actually WANTS you to learn. I've had professors that will literally read verbatim off of a power point for lectures, but Dollinger goes in depth and thoroughly explains concepts. 1000% recommend
Dollinger is one of the WORST professors at the U of A. She is so excelled in he field that she forgets that her students are not also chemists. Her tests are extremely difficult and impossible to pass. She truly doesn't want anyone to succeed in the medication field. If you fail this class, don't hesitate to think you're smart!
I really enjoyed her teaching style. She made everything super clear in class and encouraged her students to ask questions if they were confused. The material is extremely difficult, though, and you are only graded on 4 exams (lowest dropped) and the final. Her tests are based on the practice problems in OCafe and old exams, study those for sure.
Dollinger is a great professor, but she is hard. She moves very quickly in lecture, so it is really best to read ahead int he textbook if possible before attending class. She holds out of office times to ask questions, and go over practise problems which is nice. Organic Chem is a tough subject; should be prioritized because it takes a lot of time
A great professor for Organic Chemistry. I had her for the Honors section. 90% of the class grade was made up of tests. There are 4 Exams, 1 is dropped, each is 20%. The final is 30%. Go to class and take great notes. Make reagent and reaction flashcards! Do practice exams and textbook problems as soon as possible too. Lectures are on Panopto.
Dollinger is an awesome professor. I would take o chem with her (as I've heard bad things about other professors). I recommend going to office hours and doing extra class problems, book problems, o cafe problems, and practice exams. O chem won't be easy if you're not willing to put effort into it outside of class.
Use Dollinger outside of class if you can't keep up with her during her lectures. I stopped going to office hours though because she was sometimes condescending towards students so it makes it harder for us to become motivated in the class. Big curve at the end of the class. Only grades are exams.
Dr. Dollinger is ONE OF THE BEST CHEMISTRY PROFESSORS AT U OF A. UA Chem is lucky to have such a great professor teaching Ochem1/2. She is VERY thorough with the material and holds weekly review sessions in addition to O.H. & cafe. Anyone that rated her low probably didn't put in work and thought the A was going to be handed to them!Orgo isnt easy!
Okay this is coming from someone who loves chem, but I really enjoyed her class! It was pretty tough, but she really cares about her students. It is all test grades. She goes out of her way to make sure the questions are the same format as the book and cafe questions. Lectures are fast-paced. There is a nice curve at the end.
This class is very difficult as it is and Dr. Dollinger is unwilling to adapt in situations like COVID-19. Instead of working with students to help them succeed she works against us. She makes the final worth almost half of your grade and gives poor lectures. Half of the time she does not even have the camera filming what she is lecturing on.
I am not a fan of Dr. Dollinger. At all. The way she speaks to students is very condescending & her teacher style did not work for me. I have always hated chemistry, but now I hate it even more. One of my biggest peeve is how bad her handwriting is during lectures- very messy, very unorganized. Her transition to online was NOT smooth nor helpful.
I was originally a fan of Dr. Dollinger. Didnt think she was a great professor but also didnt think she was mean. I did think her handwriting and misspellings were very distracting and her teaching style is very scattered. After COVID switch to online, she tried changing the final to be worth more and was rude in her emails. Not helpful at all.
Dr. Dollinger was a fine professor until the switch to online. She has poor handwriting and is unorganized, but I could still follow her lectures. However, her online lectures were no goodmessy, sloppy, and unintelligible. She is also rude, condescending, and passive-aggressive in her emails. Not willing to adapt at all in the midst of a pandemic.
I had Anglin for first semester of ochem and I loved her and since she has such poor reviews, I thought Dollinger would be even better. I honestly did not like Dollingers style of lectures however. I feel like she goes over really basic examples in class then assumes we're experts. The exam questions are a lot harder than what we learn in class
I have had Dr. Dollinger for two semesters and never has my mental health been affected so much by a class. When I went to her first office hours really seeking out help, she told me that she felt bad for students like me because we come in wanting to try our best, but sometimes our best isn't enough. If you can avoid taking her, do so.
Organic Chemistry is a hard class. However, Dr. Dollinger makes it almost impossible. Her notes touch base on very basic examples and she recommends using the book and O-Cafe for more practice. But when it comes to her tests the problems are so advanced that not even the book could help you with them. She is condescending in her office hours.
I had Dr. Dollinger 2 semesters in a row and would honestly recommend any other professor but her. Her teaching style is ineffective, considering she has messy handwriting and gives examples that are very basic, then gives questions on exams that are 10000x harder. Yes, Ochem is difficult but Dr. Dollinger makes it much harder than it needs to be.
Do. Not. Take. Her. She is condescending in lecture and through emails (when she actually sends them). I did well in Ochem prior to taking it with her. VERY basic notes and then VERY difficult exam questions you couldn't even study for. Overall does not prepare you and does not care if you think it was unfair. You should have just KNOWN the answer.
Dr. Dollinger gives really good notes that I genuinely understand in class. However, I studied a lot for this course and the tests were NOTHING like the notes. The tests included really difficult examples that we were expected to know without being taught that information. COVID-19 saved me because I could use notes/the internet during the tests.
She's a great professor, the class was difficult but she made it fun.
She was fine before COVID19 happened. We didn't expect COVID, but it's clear that students were struggling (with the class + more). She obviously didn't care about the students and their ability to learn in a time like this when we pay to go to this university. Her lectures were not always helpful. She did not make proper adjustments for tests imo
Dr. Dollinger is a very good lecturer who explains the material clearly. However, her exams are very different and harder than the problems she does in class. She always used questions from old exams, Organic Cafe problem sets, and textbook problems so make sure to do these. You really have to do as many problems as possible to get an A.
The switch to online for COVID just showed her true colors. It's really sad to know that your professor has no empathy for her students and the things they may go through. This was my one class that made no adjustments in the pandemic. It's possible to do well in this class but not with her help. If you want a good grade it will be all YOUR effort.
I got an A in the class but my friend is mentally destroyed and is swapping majors after taking her she's literally crying right now
If you do well in her class, it's all thanks to you not her. Her lectures are messy and her handwriting gets distracting. She assumes everyone knows as much as her, so she does very basic problems in lecture but then throws difficult ones on the exam. Ochem in general is not easy, but she makes it worse. She will not hesitate to fail her students.
I feel bad, but honestly I think she did poorly with the covid change. She left her students to fend for themselves and it really sucks because we didn't ask for this pandemic to happen.
Dr. Dollinger does not care about her students or how well they do in her class. She is rude, patronizing, and unwilling to compromise or make adjustments, even during a pandemic. She is distracted/sloppy in her online lectures, just use the textbook to teach yourself. Exams are always infinitely harder than any examples she gives.
I was excited to take Dollinger because I had Anglin last semester and did not like her teaching. However, I realize now Anglin actually is compassionate and the better professor. Dollinger did not care about her students during COVID and kept sending condescending emails. The final was even worth more after the switch to online. So stressful.
I took Anglin first semester and I've always Dollinger was the better O Chem teacher but I was wrong. Dollinger does not care about her students in times of stress. In her class, you will have to fend for yourself. Her tests are WAY HARDER than her examples on her notes. I gave this class all my all and she did not help at all!
(Just as a heads up: i feel like the same person did multiple bad reviews to make her look bad.) I will agree that the COVID pandemic made learning harder but Dollinger did her best to accommodate us. Only watching her lectures wasnt going to get you an A and there were plenty of resources: book problems, practice exams, o cafe, office hours...
dont get why anyones saying she did the COVID transition poorly. it was fair, we literally had unproctored quizzes for half of our grade. if you cant put in work to get good grades on unproctored quizzes then idk what to tell you. dollinger is an excellent lecturer, you need to put in work, its ochem. she gave more As/Bs this semmy than ever b4
Dr. Dollinger is such a caring and wonderful professor. She graded solely on the exams, homework was suggested not graded. Her lectures are clear and she makes organic chemistry interesting and easy to understand. Obviously you need to study the material outside of class, but Dollinger is very helpful and approachable if you have questions.
Dr. Dollinger is not the worst professor out there, but Ochem in general just depends on the students effort and not the professor. The nice thing is that she was willing to have extra office hours outside from the one she assigned so that was helpful! But, generally I was confused in lecture and had to re-watch all the lectures.
Dr. Dollinger is very kind and knowledgable, but sometimes that makes it hard to follow her thought-process since she knows exactly what she's talking about and her students don't. The course is pretty difficult, but manageable if you GO TO ALL LECTURES. I had to take it as a live-online one but it was still good to learn. I would recommend Dr. D!
Dr. Dollinger does not sugar coat anything. She starts the class by stating that it is a lot of material and that you have to stay caught up or you will not make it. There is no playing catch up and the material can be difficult. However, with that being said, she is an amazing professor and I am taking 241B with her next semester as well.
Dr. Dollinger is an amazing O-Chem teacher. O-Chem is usually a feared class because the level of difficulty, but Dr. Dollinger is able to explain it in a way that makes sense. She offers office hours throughout the week, extra practice and book problems, so she really sets you up to succeed. She is very easy to talk to and ask questions to.
Dr. Dollinger is the BEST professor at UA!!! I was not looking forward to ochem going into this class, but she made it so fun and understandable! She engages the class often and she genuinely wants us to understand the concepts. Ochem is naturally a hard subject, you do have to work to get a good grade. Just go to office hours and SI sessions!
She & her team was a true gem during such troubling times. I had a difficult time adjusting to mostly all classes online. She was extremely understanding but also her material and teaching style was spot on. When asking questions and clarification she didn't hesitate and gave great examples. If you need to take CHEM 241A & B HIGHLY recommend her.
I thought Dr. Dollinger was a really good teacher. The class is really pretty hard, but I really think that's the nature of the class itself. My tip if she keeps doing to connect is to prioritize practicing off of homework, quizzes, and the book. If you're able, take other parts of your schedule easy this class requires time.
This course is one you really have to put time into or you will not pass. As for the teacher, she doesnt care much for how her students are doing in this class especially during a time like this. Her tests contain information that had not been really taught in class and she expects you just to know how to do things when she hadnt gone over them.
I do not understand these 'good reviews' saying she is understanding because she not. Curved the class. She does not care about the pandemic. 'Class' is to ask questions and not to learn, as you do have to teach yourself (videos each week).. everything. Her preceptors are misleading (her TA's are great). She is kind but don't recommend.
Dollinger is a great professor for ochem. The class itself is a little hard and you really get what you put into it. She drops as exam and curves grades. Sometimes its a little hard to follow her thought process in the videos which is when the book and her zoom lectures are helpful. Best advice is to stay on top of the material & quizzes & practice
Please do not take her. She's a lovely person but a bad professor. She's been doing ochem for so long she forgot what it's like to teach to students. If you struggle with chemistry like me then dont even bother taking her class. I dropped her class to take with a better professor over the summer.
Dr. Dollinger is the best professor I've ever had. She made organic chemistry (the class of nightmares) fun, engaging, and a class I looked forward to attending. The material is challenging (um, it's organic chemistry), but she genuinely cares about how you're doing and will do everything in her power to help you succeed. 11/10, love her!
Dr. Dollinger was my favorite professor ever! Her class is hard but she does a good job at explaining ochem. Go to office hours! It helps when she knows you. You HAVE to study hard for exams but that's just ochem in general. There is a HUGE curve in the class which helps a lot. I ended with an A both semesters so it is possible! I loved this class!
This is a great class by a great teacher. Strongly recommend that you do the book problems and "in class problem set" to study for the quizzes and exams. The "Flashcard" thing doesn't work for everyone--just do practice problems and you'll learn the reagents! If any extra credit is offered, do it because literally anything (even 1 point) helps.
Dr. Dollinger is very knowledgeable and makes a point to help students and provide tons of practice material. However, the class is SO lecture-heavy, she includes so much info and goes into so much detail about stuff, even if it isn't as relevant. If you like knowing more about the subject this is great, but it can also get confusing.
Dr. Dollinger is a good professor, but I feel like you already have to be good at chem to keep up with the class. So much content and info. Gives lots of practice problems + study guides, but the exams are harder than what you do in class. Ochem requires a ton of work to keep up and do well. If you don't absolutely have to take it, don't.
Dr. Dollinger is a good professor and always tries to be engaging and provide practice material. However, the class was far too content-heavy for me (maybe just because it was the honors section?) You will struggle unless you make this class a priority, or unless you are naturally good at chem. Good professor but difficult class.
This class is just plain tough if you are not the best at chemistry. You will really have to work to get good grades on the tests. Homeworks are pretty nice because you get unlimited chances to get a good grade, but they are usually pretty tough and dont end up being like what the tests are like. Manageable but very tough.
Although Organic Chemistry can be very difficult, this professor provided so many sources of help and extra problems, that it is purely your own fault for not passing. Her lectures were so helpful, both posted online and live in person. Lots of practice and easy lesson plans
Dr. Dollinger is the best choice for OChem at U of A. I hate chemistry with a passion(thanks to my gen. chem teachers), so that made it so hard for me. Glad that there are homework and quizzes included in the grading now, because the tests are HARD. Nothing like the quiz and homework questions. Do extra problems and it is possible to pass.
OCHEM with Dollinger is a piece of cake. I barely studied for any of the exams and still nearly aced the class. Her tests are so easy and she gives amazing practice exams that are really similar to actual exam. She gives a bunch of resources for practice. Its not necessary to go to class because she has videos she made during pandemic. A goat.
Dr. Dollinger is a straightforward professor. Her exams are very similar to the practice ones she gives so make sure you can do them without notes. She is a very fair person and their is no reason why a person should not be put in a position to get an A at the end of the semester. She has a lot of resources so use them and don't complain.
Dollinger is one of the better choices to take organic chemistry with. She actually cares that students learn the material and is approachable outside of class. If you only watch her pre-lecture videos and don't come to class you will not be prepared for exams. She does so many practice problems in class which helps with comprehension.
You have to do the work outside of class to do well. Study the homework for the quizzes and DO THE BOOK PROBLEMS, they do wonders. Study the practice exam and book problems for the tests and you will also be fine. It's hard, but you can definitely do well in the class if you put in the time and effort outside of class. Also go to ocafe. Haziq is >>
A queen.
Dr. Dollinger is a great professor - kind and engaging - and there are lots of resources to get help outside of class. Just be aware that you are expected to work through lots of content with a new unit each week. It's difficult to do amazing if you have other priorities but if you do the practice and go to reviews/ office hours you'll be fine.
Dollinger is a great lecturer and does a good job explaining the material. Reading the book makes weekly homework and quizzes straightforward, but exams are incredibly difficult. Take the practice exams and go to lecture if you want to see her go over more practice problems. You have to invest a significant amount of time to get a good grade.
Dr.Dollinger used to be good first semester for 241A. But when she started doing flipped classroom, her teaching became horrible. Repeated lecture material during in-class time for practice problems. Preceptors were not helpful, many could not explain problems properly.
Do yourself a service and do NOT take her class. Exam questions are only doable if you do practice problems almost every day. Lectures are not worth going to, just do the practice on your own.
Dr. Dollinger really cares about her students and wants everyone to do well. Organic chemistry is always going to be difficult and it requires a lot of practice outside of class in order to really understand what is going on, but Dr. Dollinger gives students lots of resources for practice and help outside of class, so you can definitely succeed.
Dollinger is super funny and gives plenty of practice problems/resources so you can succeed. I liked how there's graded homework and quizzes to split up the grade instead of just exams (although those are still the bulk of the grade). Take advantage of review sessions, organic cafe and the practice exams and you'll survive this weed-out class.
the BEST ochem professor
This class was stupid easy. The class averages for exams were in the 60% range which tells me a lot of the students in the class are just lazy. The book problems are miles harder than the exams. Her exams were so easy I am shocked at how poor kids did in this class. I finished the class with a 98%. Dollinger made this class so easy lol
The class was cake. It could be because I am wicked smart or many everyone else is just really dumb. Either way, her exams were an insult to my intelligence. I finished the class with a 97%. I did not study for the third exam and got a 98%.
This class is light work. I got a 100% in this class and I didn't even go to a single lecture. Dollinger makes everything available so that you do not have to go to a single class. Her tests are super easy. Those that do not like Dollinger are the ones that are lazy, can't study, and are dangerously unintelligent. Could not be an easier class.
This class was SO easy, I actually wish it was harder. This class did not live up to the classic organic chemistry stereotype. I think I have put more work in some Gen ed classes in my academic career. Dollinger is an absolute goat. She makes everything you need available online and she gives amazing practice exams, making exams super easy.
Her lectures are way too fast-paced and disorganized, flying over some subjects in minutes, and covering more than one chapter per class. HW & quizzes were never helpful or anything like exam questions. I never felt comfortable going into exams because there was always something I had never seen before. Do yourself a favor, take another professor!
made me cry and was mean about it, not helpful at all
Dollinger is honestly such a great professor. She can seem a bit abrasive at first, but I promise you she is nice and genuinely cares about her students' success. She's also really funny. This class is hard, but totally doable if you actually devote time to doing practice problems and take advantage of the teaching team resources. Put in the work!!
Dr. Dollinger is absolutely amazing. She is hilarious and makes organic chemistry genuinely fun to learn. I love going to lectures which is great because you NEED to if you want a good grade in this class. She also is great at answering questions - multiple times answered my questions in GroupMe at midnight. You won't find a more supportive prof.
Dollinger is one of the most overrated professors. She's not mean, but she doesn't like when students usually ask questions, making it difficult for me and others to follow along. She doesn't have a lot of patience, and cares more about just getting through the lecture than actually helping her students. She's not the best like everyone says she is
Professor Dollinger is great. The way she has you watch lectures beforehand and then come to class and do problems is very helpful. If you put the time and effort into the class it is not too difficult and would definitely be easy to get at least a B in the course. It is also nice that there are homework and video grades on top of exam grades.
I was really worried about OCHEM going into this class There are in-class quizzes around once a week. The online lectures are graded for completion and you have unlimited attempts on homework. The tests are difficult, but if you put in the work throughout the unit, you will be fine.
I wish I could've given Dr. Dollinger a 4.5/5. She is a great professor, especially for a difficult subject like OChem. The only downside is that she posts one practice exam and shares relevant book problems for a chapter or two (when each exam is about 4 chapters). The review sessions she holds are Q&A. I'd try to go to SI sessions, if possible.
Dr. Dollinger can come off as mean at times, but she truly cares about her students and is just a little blunt at times. She is not mean and always wants to help those who need it. That being said, if you attend lectures, watch the recorded lectures, and do practice problems regularly, you probably will not need that help. Great professor!
If you put in the work outside of class, doing the homework and studying hard for the weekly quizzes this class is doable. The quizzes are extremely difficult. Dr. Dollinger's teaching style did not work well for me, but she offers lots of resources to get help such as organic cafe, office hours and SI. Exams are like the practice exams she gives.
Requires a lot of outside work! Go to O-cafe, office hours, and PRACTICE! Her exams are 30% which for me were easier than quizzes which are worth 20%, so do well on those. Changed the grading system for quizzes so you can't get lower than a 50%, so she does listen to students input. If you put in the time, effort, AND PRACTICE, you can get an A.
Lisa Dollinger should not be allowed to teach ochem anymore. She's unbelievably rude to students who come to her for help, and as a professor that is absolutely unacceptable. I did fine in the class with a lot of extra practice outside her practice problems, but even then exams were difficult. Don't take ochem with her if you want a social life.
Ochem is hard, but Dollinger wants you to succeed. She's accessible outside of class, so don't be afraid to ask questions (it really helps). I went to class, but I don't know if that helped me much because of the flipped classroom. My biggest piece of advice is to make sure to never get behind because it adds up and is hard to catch up again.
Dollinger is a phenomenal professor, her flipped classroom format was great and she had many out of class Office hours/review. She also supplies an ample amount of problems for practice, Unit problems are similar to exam questions. All that being said Orgo is hard and you will need to put in an ample amount of time outside of class to do well!
I had Lisa for Organic Chem one and she is an amazing teacher. She is funny and makes it fun to learn. She explains things thoroughly and she has a lot of resources for students. She gives a lot of opportunities to understand the material: optional practice problem, book problems, preceptor and office hours. I recommend taking her class!
Lisa was a great ochem professor. I really like the flipped classroom setting, as ochem requires A LOT of practice to get it down. If you don't like the flipped classroom idea then this class is not for you. You REALLY have to put in the hours to study the class. 10/10 recommend
I took Dr. Dollinger for o-chem 1 back in Fall 2022 (this is a late review, I know lol). She was an excellent professor, and I was able to achieve the grade I wanted (albeit with a lot of work outside of class). Lectures were online and in-class sessions were mainly for extra practice and reinforcement. Be ready to work outside of class for an A.
Ruined my friends mental health; I now go to group therapy with them
shes a good teacher but shes really mean in office hours
Took for honors ochem and loved it. The flipped classroom actually helped me learn all of the content and kept me more engaged than I think a classic lecture would have. Go to class to work on problems and definitely get help at Ocafe or in office hours outside of class. Lots of work, but thats ochem- not her. Loved her and her huge teaching team
Great instructor! Cares about you as a student and actually teaches in a way that gives you a chance to form an understanding of the material. Absolutely take her class!
Dr. Dollinger is so epic.
Dr. Dollinger is an amazing professor. She gets a bad rep for being "too hard" but if you put in the work and really practice, you will do just fine. Her passion for the subject is so inspiring and she's funny. She really wants you to do well in the class, but wants you to actually understand it, so that is maybe why she comes off as being "hard".
I took Dollinger for honors o chem one and two. She has awesome online lectures to watch before class. The class is flipped and that works great for me because we do practice during class. One thing I love is that you know EXACTLY what will be on the exam and there are plenty of resources to practice/study for the exams/final.
I didnt take Dollinger for Ochem 1 so it was kind of difficult transitioning to her Ochem 2 class. My advice would be to take online!!!! The preceptors are really the best helpers of this class.
dollinger is awesome! class is flipped classroom; before each lecture, you usually have to watch two videos, each about twenty minutes long. really makes ochem interesting and fun. lots of work, i recommend you watch one lecture video every day. not a fun class if you procrastinate. exams are long and you have to be detail-oriented to do well
same exact class as the regular section but for honors students. no extra homework or anything like that. really recommend because you get to have more personal interactions and help from her and the preceptors!
Ochem is a heavily visual based subject and I didn't understand certain things when Dollinger explained them but got it much easier when a friend just used a 3D model in front of me. The lectures are flipped and feel more like memorization than actual understanding/teaching. She often tells you to rewatch lectures/book if you don't get something.
I love Dr. Dollinger. Ochem is such a difficult subject, and I don't think I could have done it without all of her extra help. There are so many office hours, SI sessions, etc.
Professor Dollinger makes ochem engaging and manageable with a flipped classroom format. While the workload is significant, her support and resources, like unstuck AI, help you stay on track. The exams are challenging but fair - just be detail-oriented and consistent with your preparation.
Better option than some other profs but Ochem was very difficult for me. I fell behind and it was impossible to catch up, especially because of the flipped modality. Because she's a professor and has mastered the subject, if you do not understand and try to ask questions she can be rude and condescending which discouraged me from going to class.
Dr. Dollinger does a flipped modality in which you watch videos before coming to class, which is really annoying for a subject like organic chemistry. She is smart, just not a good professor in my opinion. If you HAVE to go to office hours to succeed, that's a good sign that the way you're teaching is not working.
I love the flipped classroom structure because it allows you to rewatch the lectures. There are 7 quizzes throughout the semester, 2 get dropped, that hold you accountable for staying on top of the material. Dollinger is clear at explaining complex topics and making this difficult class manageable. She also is super funny and has an amazing team.
She was very indirect in the lectures and would always beat around the bush for important topics. Very hard to decipher what was important and what was not.
Dr. Dollinger is a really sweet person, however, her lectures do not make sense and no matter how much I studied and went to office hours, her class did not make sense. She is a tough professor but she will make you work hard. I wish there were more practice problems, more content support, and just made more sense.
She is unorganized. Hated lecture. She tries to come up with practice problems off the top of her head. Her "flipped" classroom doesn't work well for many. Around an hour of content to watch before every class and homework due SATURDAY nights. Her class is doable but you have to put in SO MUCH work outside class. Take advantage of ALL extra credit.
Taking O chem online was hard. Do not recommend unless you KNOW online is better for you. Video lectures were not engaging. I ended up just reading the textbook to learn, which worked better but I missed some things she only taught in-video. Homework was hard and did not prepare me for the tests. Doing in person, different professor next year.
Dr. Dollinger is so great at teaching ochem in detail. The way her class is structured makes the content easy to learn as long as you do the homework by the assigned date. There are weekly quizzes that actually make sure you continuously learn the content which really saved me when it came to exams. Overall, great professor!
I just want to start by saying organic chemistry is going to be difficult no matter who your professor is. Dr. Dollinger always had office hours to go to, lecture videos, and lots of exam preps. She gives extra credit here and there. All quizzes and exams for the online section are proctored and timed. Take advantage of all resources.
I did this course online, so everything was through ALEKS. I quickly found out that the lecture videos didn't always align with what ALEKS wanted, so navigating that was rough at first. If you're taking online, DO THE HOMEWORK AND EXAM PREPS. They are just like the quizzes/exams!
