Teaches interesting stuff. Study hard and do well.
A really nice person! Exams are fair. Only negative, class tends to get boring.
very nice person. Knows what she is talking about
Very nice, stared at her more than i did her pictures! Fun class. Recommend
Very interesting class, I enjoyed it very much.
Studying and memorizing =A, very intelligent but a little odd.
She knows the material. Fair exams. Lovely teacher with a vibrant personality.
all you do is read write and regurgitate! exams are****ulitave and fry brain
boring. very picky.
Interesting class, knows what shes talking about, tests r not bad.
She is very nice and helpful.
great teacher.. if you enjoy the arts..! smart.. and teaches well ... fine too!
Want to write a PERFECT paper? You'll spend your semster on it and will get
Good professor, fair tests. Especially if you pay attention
she's very rude sometimes, but if you study the tests aren't very hard
She's awesome! Just treat this class with respect!

is passionate about art and will help you with your research paper. midterm and final are pointless, you're just memorizing facts. has a nice voice, and can easily put you to sleep.
awesome teacher, without a doubt.
Extremely Knowledgable In Her Field, But You Better Study Hard For Her Tests!!
Knowledgeble, dont take this class just to fill your elective credit, take it only if you are very passionate about art. IT IS TOO HARD! Have you memorize minute detail for like 60 art works for the Midterm and Final!
Her lectures are excellent, and she really enjoys art, which really helps students understand. However, her expectations are rather high and she can be very cold and rude. She believes she's nice, but she's quite the opposite.
very mean person. LOTS of memorization, and she definitely takes the class very seriously so don't take it as a filler. It's a core class but she acts as if everyone's an art major. i'm glad to be rid of her.
SHE'S GREAT AND YOU'LL LEARN ALOT. TAKE HER IF YOU LIKE ART.
Take it only if you reallyl like Art and you'll remember me when i say this, work on the term paper from the very begining...you'll also thank me later
Excellent professor, do u work and a good grade
Really likes her job. Alot of information. Fair grader. Start the F-iing paper the 1st day of class
wonderful teacher.
I took the class and u dont really gotta memorize that much just know what the painting is about cuz the other stuff is only like 5% of grade on tests she curves like crazy dont need the book just go online for info
Loves her job, loves art, loves knowledge, loves to talk and joke, but hates you. She'll explain papers and the course clearly and offer suggestions, but don't ask for anything else, because she'll snap at you, and there goes that painting arm.
very knowledge in the field of art. must have good memory to study for the midterm n final. fair grader.
Very difficult course. Dont take this class even by mistake. Too much memorization and she is very unfair. She doesn't like people who ask questions so be quiet and act like you understand even if you do not. Term paper is too difficult.
Awful...2 museum trips that take 5 hrs each, paper that she expects to be written in Phd disertation style, must have photographic memory to take the class..avoid at all costs!!
Great professor who really cares about the subject. Sure the term paper is a pain, but she really wants you to learn and she is a fair grader. The class is well worth it.
Passionate about art but DO NOT ask questions. Term paper is a pain but she is clear on what she wants. Don't bother buying the book.
Nice on the outside, evil on the inside. She's not gona be "mean" to you, but the class is actually a heck of a lot harder then you'd expect it to be. Don't take it unless you're an ART major.
She is nasty and sarcastic, no other word do describe it. Sure she is smart, but please what does it cost to be kind? I would avoid this course like the plague
Terrible, makes you know things that they teach in grad school. Long paper that takes forever to do and 2 museum trips. STAY AWAY!
perfect.
Stop whining, she's one of the only decent professors.
Horrible! Avoid at all costs, teaches intro class at graduate level, paper is very hard on obscure topics and expects it to be written in discertation style; final exam-requires you to memorize 70 works of art and remembe the details.
You have to be out of your mind to take her. Enjoy the neverending torture and torment. Paper is impossible and she doesnt understand that students have other finals; makes you study lots of works on purpose.
Wonderful professor, I'm def. not an art major but enjoyed actually learning somethin. Listen to all the kids crying on here, Don't take her if you aren't up to the task of doing a good amount of work.
I had heard alot of horror stories about this teacher but I was pleasently surprised. She was a great teacher and got you interested in each peice. Paper and final are tough but not too bad just pay attention in class and you'll be fine.
Too much work for a core course. There is no reason in the world we should have to write a 10-page paper for Art! At least she lets us sleep in class.
easy if you know how to write, fun if you are interested in the subject
Definately a fair professor, and considers overall work.. i was pleasantly surprised at my final grade.. for those who want to learn, and WILLING to learn, i would highly recommend this professor.. NOT for lazy students seeking an "easy A"..
i had dr. farber for 3 classes and nw that i am a senior and graduateing i can say that she was easily the best prof. i have ever had. If you have no intrest in art history dont take her class. She is wonderfull intelligent and knows her stuff.
Wonderful professor. I'm not an art major, but took art history and it opened up a whole new world to me. The class is not easy at all, one of the hardest you'll ever take, but probably the most rewarding. Great Professor.

She's a good proff, and knows her stuff, but when the light gets turned off with the projector on,I just fall asleep, a term research paper, memorization of 40 works of art plus dates, time period, name, type of work...so pretty hard for the final. Nice.
She is cool, witty, generous, and very helpful. Highly reccomended!
Rude, biased, inaccurate in much information she provides (could not distinguish between a sphinx and a centaur while lecturing at Met) & is not qualified to be instructing, overly self-assured, talks down to students which makes me think she may feel highly threatened by upcoming art historians
I took this class as a learnign community. We walked around for 3 hrs looking a buildings. BUildings is her life- if ur not interested stay out that was my mistake. SHe thinks she knows everything and her exams are hard unless u memorize EVERYTHING.
Part of the New York City Learning Community. She is rude and makes little comments about things when she doesn't get her way. Very embaressing when she drags you into a building that you don't have a group reservation for and security kicks you out. Stay away from ART 296L AND HISTORY 113K
Has high expectations, but if you pay attention and take good notes, you shouldn't have trouble. Lectures are long, sometimes borings. Mid term is a little difficult, but just study and your grade will pay off
this class is cruel and unusual punishment it should be illegal for her to teach she is rud doesnt like question never listens to her studnts stay as far away from her as possible she is the most horrible teacher i have ever had her class is incredably boring you will sleep through the whole class
Stay away! This lady is out of her mind! She makes you go to two museum trips, makes you write a ten page report, you have to memorize 70 works of art for the midterm and final. She obviously has no life and assumes that you don’t either. No consideration for the working student. I now hate art!
She is rude and boring. You have to memorize at least 75 works of art for the final and midterm, go to 2 trips to the Met, and write a 10 page paper. The format for the paper doesn't make sense and she is a hard grader. Unless you have to take a class with her, Stay away.
A word to the wise-stay away. She is a terrible public speaker. When she does get her information out, it is often incorrect. She has a close knit group of "followers" who adore her - everyone else, beware. Her inferiority complex leads her to be extremely rude and childish more often than not.
At first I thought she was a nice lady and has a good knowledge about art. But she ruined my expectation. Sometimes she is not clear about certain things on the paintings. She only talks to students who knows art. She thinks that her class is so easy, but it's not.
Dr. Farber definitely isn’t my favorite professor in the world, but she’s not my worst. If you are not interested in art and don’t have good memorization skills, then this probably isn’t the class for you. Otherwise: 30 points on the midterm if you show up and spell your name correctly, you can eat
She knows more about her field than all other professor in the university put together. Very helpful, funny, cheerful, but also expects only the best from you. Has ZERO toleration for plagearism. You will learn a lot, enven if you don't want to. If you do, and work hard, expect good grades.
Dr. Farber has great depth and breadth of knowledge. She is demanding but her lectures are extremely interesting and I only regret that I was unable to take the second part of the course. This is a professor for responsible mature students who are willing to pay attention and do the work.
I DISLIKE ART AND HER. TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT TO GET A BAD GRADE AND SPEND ENDLESS WEEKENDS STUDYING FOR HER TEST NOT TO MENTION THE PAPER. SHE IS RUDE! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR,,, STAY AWAY!!!
She is very knowledgable in her field. She has her moments but if you go to all of the classes and listen to her lectures, you'll do well in her class.
She's really good at what she does, but she's very intense. You have to sit through two hour lectures about the techniques of paintings and works of art throughout history. If you're not a big fan of history, then this class is not for you. If you are up for the challenge, I suggest you take it.
Mad Hot
not to crazy bout her...she always thinks she is right, very rude, tough grader, however the class is interesting. If she lightened up a little and learned how to respect her students a little more i wouldve enjoyed the class more
Dr. Farber is by far one of the most knowledgeable professors at Pace. Those who do not want to learn and take advantage of the opportunity to have a professor as precise and knowing as her should not take this class. Those who think she is rude or mean are too sensitive to be in her class.

crazy ****hhhh dont take her class
i love farber shes great
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Biggest mistake of your life......DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a good amount of work but you'll learn a lot. She doesn't ask for much, stop leavin off studyin and writing papers till the last minute and you'll be fine.
worst ****ing class i have ever taken
She's a nice person but if you must take Art 102, take Professor Marinescu instead.

really great professor, she's passionate about the subject and that comes through in her teaching, go to the class and museums, the test are verbatim to what she says, it's an easy class if you just listen
combination of the worst class + professor i have ever had at pace. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS...
Worst professor and class I have had thus far at Pace. She lectures at lightning speed, making it impossible to keep up when taking notes. Never offers to answer questions. Classes are unbelievably boring. Exams are difficult and unfair. She is blatantly rude - thinks of herself as god's gift to art history and views her students as inferior.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! Farber rocks! If you are not interested in art don't take the class because then you will find it borign and whatnot. HOWEVER if you do actually LIKE art Farber is great!
worst professor at pace!! avoid taking this class at all costs!!! she picks like 3 favorites and treats everyone else like crap. takes off points on tests for grammer errors. probably just miserable because of how hidious she is!!
She is horrible; The woman is so smart, and knowns her sh*t. But if you are not a major or a minor is Art (especially History) you are beneath her and thats how you are treated. She is very condescending. Not alwasy during class, but don't dare ask for help outside class, she is short and makes you feel like an inch tall. You kinda wanna kick her.
Not an easy professor by measure but she is erudite and you will learn enough art history to satisfy an earnest intellectual curiousity. If you want to learn something from a very knowledgable woman and also be proud of your college (remember that this isn't pre-school anymore) work, then take her. If not, don't bother.
She knows generalizations - but not qualified to teach. She taught the class that a griffen was a centuar! Not acceptable for an art historian. Be wary of what she teaches you that isn't in the textbook. She also picks favorites, belittles people, and is the worst public speaker I've encountered at Pace. Very disappointing. Avoid at all costs.

Favorite teacher at Pace so far. Really tough grader, but it makes you feel like you did a good job when you get a good grade. Why pay this much money to get teachers that don't even show up for class? Quality education. She does picks favorites, meaning that she picks people that seem to actually be paying attention.
Unfair grader. Favors certain students and god forbid approaching her about a grade. The title DR. goes to her head. At first I thought she was nice,,,but she made me HATE Art when I initally had an interest for it.
I actually learned something from this woman. She's awesome.
Everyone who thinks she picks favorites has sibling issues or something. She likes the people who show interest and don't ask questions that make it obvious you don't read or do anything or talk like fools.
She is a great teacher. However, she grades hard, but if she sees that you are interested and trying to do well, she is willing to help. I wouldn't take this class if you aren't already interested in art, I wouldn't take this class to satisfy your core requirement because it is a lot of work.
Extremely hard class with a lot of work, but she truly wants you to learn. Makes sure she knows who is a major or minor because she is the head of the department. Doesn't deal well with people that aren't present and focused on the class, but very pleasant if you are there to learn.
difficult grader, rude to students, hates answering questions, and definitely does pick favorites. dont take this class unless you want to do a lot of work for a really bad grade!
Had the worst class ever. I was bored to death in that class.Fell asleep in that class once but somehow woke up for some unknown reason. Never liked Dutch/Flemish paintings. Two Met museum trips were fun. Writing is hard; she takes points whenever she finds an error on the paper.
I fear Dr. Farber and yet I feel the need to seek her approval. She's very intelligent and she definitely knows her art history. I still don't know what my grades are like, but I feel like despite all the constant studying I do they won't be good.
She is horrible, and she is thee snottiest professor i have ever met. we go on sprints around nyc, through rain, sleet, snow, shine, wind. she does not care for cars, road signs, lights, etc. half of our class almost got hit by busses, cars, taxis, etc. she thinks that she knows more than anyone in the world. her class is hazardous! stay away!
I have no idea why these people have such an opinion about her. Probably because they don't have any respect or idea about art history. Farber is one of the best professors i've had, regardless of subject. She is a hard grader but explain every little detail several times. She is really helpful and appreciates a hard work. Take her!
Very passionate about art and knows the subject matter very well. All you have to do is pay attention and study the review sheet! This class was part walking tour around New York City and she would arrive at the location we needed to meet her at about 30 to 45 minutes late. And during walking classes, she walks extremely fast so be sure to keep up!
I have to say this is by far the worst teacher that I have ever head. She thinks that she is the best things since sliced bread, and we spend most of the class going over material that we are not required to study. She's rude to the maintenance people when she needs help setting up. She is a failed artist, and blames her students for her failure.
Very professional.Has a passion for the arts and inspires in class. Very critical on papers. Tough but that's why I'm paying $914 per credit for. Want an easier professor go to community college.
love hate relationship not the nicest professor. a hard grader, but a great teacher. learned from her so much, but she had her weird moments and i could see she was an unhapppy person and it came through in her teaching. however, she was an excellent teacher and she really knows her stuff i learned so much from her. brilliant woman.
Hardly use the book, but its recomnded. THOSE WHO DO NOT HAVE $$ GO TO THE LIBRARY & there you can either use the ref book or use an older edition. IT WORKS:) DR. FARBER herself is quite the quirky lady trying to make light of the class though we know how dreadful it can be. Take good notes and study from day 1. PS. write the term paper from day 1!
She is an ok teacher. She has her favorites in class and you can tell. If you study the notes she gives you, you will do well on the final and midterm. She is very helpful if you make an effort to see and meet with her. Can be very moody. One day she might like you the next she won't.
Walks REALLY fast. Is full of info. Sense of humor. You'll think you're not getting much out of the class, and it's A LOT of walking, but you learn a ton in the process. Interesting class. I liked it.
DO NOT TAKE! She is rude, condescending, and insults students in class and on papers. You will never be right. No matter what you do, you'll never please her. Want an easy class? DON'T TAKE! Want to walk out of class with your dignity intact? DO NOT TAKE. I hated every second of this class all because of her. HUGE waste of time and money.
smart women, kind of a hard teacher. makes you walk a lot and expects to to spend an hour just to get to where the class is meeting, then she shows up late and makes you stay 30 mins late, even though you have a long way back to pace.
Don't buy textbooks. You don't need. It's a tough class, but almost every class is a walking trip to actually see the buildings which is cool. Walks fast and is hard to hear. But, all the info you need is on the packets she hands out. SO HELPFUL. Very clear on what she expects of you. Learned a lot. She is nice but a little harsh sometimes. Fun
Loves the material and its obvious the way she power walks from building to building. You come out of this class with an oddly large amount of knowledge regarding architecture, whether you like it or not. She's a pretty sweet teacher, even if the subject isn't the most thrilling.
Farber is an alright teacher, I appreciated how much she loved the topic she was teaching, which is very refreshing. You need to pay attention in class when she's going over the material, it will help with the Midterm and Final IMMENSELY. She was a little eccentric and a lot of kids in my class didn't seem to like her, but my opinion was neutral.
Very enthusiastic and inspiring
She is extremely knowledgeable in her subject, but at the same time she does not care about her students whatsoever.
Very easy if you studied the notes she gives you for her midterm and final. She does't like personal opinion of works. Just sit quietly and you'll be fine.
Amazing professor! She is super friendly and very helpful. You have to work hard if you want an A but she is there to help. Highly recommend taking Dr. Farber.
This professor is very clear in how she runs her stuff. Pretty strict there are two tests and one term paper. If you are not a art major, do not think this is an easy class, it is extremely difficult.
If you aren't an art or art history major then you won't appreciate her knowledge. She's full of info, and is straight forward. COME TO CLASS and TAKE NOTES! Memorize, memorize, memorize. That's the basis of any art history class. Study for the midterm/final, and do the term paper. And sit in front, she will remember you.
If you listen to her, take notes, and study you can easily get an A or B. One paper but the paper is really easy. No test but a midterm and final which are both not too bad if you study. However, it's easy to not pay attention to her if you don't care about the information. She gives off a bad attitude but if you talk to her see is willing to help.
You don't need the book if you pay attention she equips you with everything you'll need to know. Midterm and final is okay, need to memorize a lot. She explains back stories on the art works that you WILL need to know on tests and paper. Attend the classes and try to listen to everything she says, she's actually really funny.
Mid-term and Final are extremely hard. you have to memorize 50s picture with name, years and period. the last research paper is okay and will help your grade if you complete to write it.
Farber knows her stuff, but most of the time she goes off on little rants that aren't that interesting or related to the architecture we're studying. She is really passionate about architecture, which makes it interesting. She's funny too, but sometimes I don't think she knows that she's funny. I always look forward to going to her class.
Prof Farber has an abundance of knowledge and knew everything there was to know on early Netherlandish art. However, her mood is a bit erratic. The tests are pretty easy if you show up to class & take good notes but she is HARSH on the papers. Had a high B in the class before the paper. You really need to spend the entire semester on it.
she was just a hot mess all the time...
This is a reading and writing intensive course (it's Art History, so this should be expected). Dr. Farber is really nice and super knowledgeable, and her lectures are informative enough that if you take notes, you won't need the textbook. Come to class, make an effort, don't be disrespectful, and you'll do fine.
It's a lecture class, so all you need to do is go to class and take good notes to study for the exams. If you can manage that, you will do fine in the course. My only complaint is her rigidness in dealing with her students. There is little room for exception or flexibility when it comes to assignments. Be prepared to stay the full class time.
It was literally the best class I could have taken. Every week we walked around Manhattan and looked at different buildings in history. Even if you are not an art major it is fun and Dr. Farber is actually hysterical. She makes me laugh so hard and is a real gem. She is a fair grader and as long as you follow instructions you are golden!
This lady is fantastic. She may seem intimidating at first, and you don't want to be on her bad side, but she's really sweet and quirky and she tells you exactly what you need to know/what she expects. This class was a lot of walking (3 hrs/week) and it's tempting to not listen to her but you miss some hilarious quotes if you don't.
Dr. Farber is very knowledgeable in the field of Art History and is an essential professor to have to really get into the subject. Her lectures are dense. On a separate note, Dr. Farber frequently shows up late to class and therefore sets a very backward tone. She is rude and stuck up in her grading. She reminds me of Anna Wintour (vogue editor).
This is probably the coolest class I'll take in college, we spent every week walking around Manhattan and learning the course material first hand. It is difficult to take notes on the street so I would recommend getting a clipboard for her class, but Farber is pretty straightforward with what she's expecting out of the students.
I love professor Farber. It is the coolest class you can ever take in college. You walk around Manhattan and see cool landmarks and actually gain a lot of knowledge. Especially the kind you can use to impress your friends. She is hysterical and as long as you study for the midterm and final you will be perfectly fine
Dr. Farber is a fantastic professor. She is very clear with students about what she expects. If you show up to class, take diligent notes, and study for exams, you will pass. This is a writing enhanced course but she will help you outside of class on the term paper. Farber is hilarious and brilliant. She cares about her students.
This is a great class. Dr. Farber is extremely knowledgable and keeps students engaged through the lectures. The MET trips are fantastic. If you are interested in art this is a great class to take. Dr. Farber will ensure your success if she sees that you care about the class. You must work hard if you want a good grade but she will not fail you.
This is one of my favorite classes that I have ever taken. Dr. Farber is incredibly well read and cultured. She does not mess around but if you try in her class, you will pass. She has office hours and is always willing to help. Her lectures are fun and interesting. Dr. Farber is incredibly fair with her students and upfront about her expectations.
She is a nice lady and wants to help you pass however if you are not interested in the subject, DO NOT TAKE THE CLASS. You will be miserable trying to memorize over 50 paintings, sculptures, architecture, etc. (date, artist, location, everything!!) It is super hard and boring if you don't care about it. She is very strict about phones and laptops
This class involves a lot of memorization and will take up a lot of time once finals and midterms start. Class is also very lecture heavy and be careful of disrespecting professor in any way as she will publicly embarrass you.
I went into this class super excited to analyze some Renaissance Art and discuss themes of enlightenment and so on. It was a total let down. Every week was a different long lecture where we were told to memorize dates and boring info. I don't recommend this class. I dreaded it every week and I'm glad it's over. LOOK ELSEWHERE TO FULFILL AOKS!
I have written a review of this professor before but for some reason, it was never posted. Odd, considering it was a negative review (even odder that Lisa has not received any reviews since 2020...). This professor is the worst professor at Pace. Please, do not take her class if you value your mental health.
My last review was taken down for unknown reasons. Nevertheless, I had Dr. Faber, and I have to agree with the other reviews. Do not take her class if you value your GPA and mental health. She can come across as very pompous and talks about herself for 3 hours every class. She is unwaveringly stringent with her grading system and annoyingly so
Our final exam in Dr. Farber's Art 102 class consisted of memorizing every single detail of a 70 page study guide down to the exact year, artist, name, and material... I have to agree with the other students on this platform. She is the worst teacher I've probably ever had at Pace.
