Pretty good teacher, friendly, helpful. Good at explaining and obviously likes what she's doing. A little scattered at times.
Made math easier to grasp.
VERY scatter-brained and squirrely. pretty much confused the entire class. SHE IS A GREAT PERSON, and i'm sure she'll be a great teacher at lower levels of math, but when it came to some of the higher concepts, she had a hard time explaining them clearly. overall a nice person though.
Aren't there some type of qualifications one needs to be a teacher? Like knowing the subject...that would be a good one
cool teacher

Great Instructor! Really clear lectures.
She's a nice lady, funny, helpful, allows redo's on exams for half credit per missed problem, but watch out for mistakes during lecture! She might tell you something, and if it doesn't make sense, raise your hand otherwise you'll memorize the wrong thing! She's really good about taking questions, though.
She cares more about homework being completed than if you understand the material. The message she sent: don't be honest and just copy the homework out of the student solutions guide if you don't have time to finish all of it. Also, she'll help selective people on tests and quizzes, which doesn't seem fair.
No one should be that hot and that smart! Lisa is also a great teacher. She will spend hours with you out side of class and always encourages us to ask questions in class. Also, as long as you do all your homework you can redo your exam. I guess the slackers are bitter that she only rewards you only if you do all your homework.
Lisa is well organized and not too hard. If you do your homework it is hard not to do well. She lets you get half the points from exams back and the quizzes are just homework problems. She even has practice exams.
Didn't enjoy her class overall. Some material was not explained well and/or hurried. Also occasionally assigned homework problems that were very long and hard, and sometimes she couldn't figure out the answer upon asking her next class.
Excellent professor. I've never had a better math instructor. Clear, concise, and can challenge you if she knows you can handle it. Practice exams, retakes, and good amount of homework.
Awesome teacher. She'll explain things several different ways until everyone gets it. Always available for extra help (she's a tutor too.) Being able to correct exams for half credit is saving my grade... She is kind of nit-pickey on exams though, so pay close attention to detail!
Will not Recommend...
Very nice person but not a math teacher. She only tries to help certain people in the class and makes many mistakes when lecturing and working problems for the class. One time she had to get help to be able to do a homework problem. Her mistakes and constant corrections made the class confusing.
She should be a student, not a teacher! Lisa is terrible at explaining anything. She assigned numerous hw problems she had a difficult time solving, and then tell us that its never something wed see on a test. She never gave examples of problems in class, and leaves you figuring things out on your own at home. our class average was a 70%!! beware!
If you want a good grade without learning anything, take her class. Her test problems come from the even numbered problems in the homework. She lets you correct you exams if you do the homework. Even though I got a good grade, i felt like i had not learned anything.
very disappointing. I passed the class on the strength of my homework and portfolio. I'm grateful that she passed me, but the tests were horrid. I'm not sure Leibnitz could pass them. Pre-tests were misleading and not helpful. I can't blame it all on her though, PCC math past 111c is a joke due to crappy texts and too much frivolous HW.
Would help if she actually explained the math sections we were doing. Intead she would give us extremely easy examples for what the section would be like. Then seem to wonder why we were doing so bad in her class. Most the people in my class didn't pass because of how scattered she was with the information. I don't recommend taking her class.
MTH251-253. Understands all of the material. She always works out problems from scratch during lectures, doesn't just copy the steps from her notes. Very helpful. Went out of her way to apply concepts to real world examples where possible. Do all of your homework and you will do fine.
Really great teacher. She will go out of her way to help a student with a problem. She always e-mails back proptly and helps you as much as possible to tackle the writing projects. I actually am more interested in math and better at it than I ever thought possible.
I dont like the way she teaches or grades. I think she is more about making you feel stupid than helping you be successful... Just my opinion
She's completely unprepared for class. Arriving exactly on time (never early), she likes to write out definitions of math theorems that can be found in the book. she spends so much time setting up each individual graph, as opposed to having them pre-filled on an overhead, that she only has time for one or two examples of what she's presenting.
She is a good teacher and gives you all the help you need. She was always late for class by about 5-10 min but other than that I enjoyed her class. Her dressing style is also rather intresting....
If you want to learn cursive in your math class then take her. She is completely useless in class. Her attitude is basically if you don't understand, well that sucks for you. SPARE YOUR SELF AND GPA!
I have no idea how anyone could give this teacher a poor rating. She is one of the best Math teachers I have ever had. She is very willing to help and cares about her students. If you are not willing to put the time into your studies you will not do well but who's fault is that?
Most of what I have read in other comments is true. She is often arriving as students are waiting in the hall before class. She is EXTREEMLY willing to give time and energy outside of the classroom to anyone whom will ask. She is moderstely understanding, but she leaves the responsibility of communication up to the student. If you (I) got proble
Lisa Folberg is a very nice woman in a general matter, but she is usually late to class, and she is usually unprepared. The whole class is based off of tests, and she never explains anything to you, she just gives you examples, and doesn't answer questions. She expects you to learn off of completely your text book, and grades only off of tests. BAD
Do not take this teacher unless you like learning all of the material from the book and doing massive amounts of homework. She spends most of every class covering questions and leaves only 30min of class to cover new material. This leaves the students with tons of homework, and not a clue on how to do it. Which will making you do bad on tests too.
She is a Very Nice person. She's patient and talks kindly. You can tell she tries hard to teach the class well so that everyone understands, but of course not everyone will understand after the first time lecture. So don't be afraid to ask questions when needed; she will answer all of them and tries to clarify your understanding as much as possible
She is totally awesome. She is very easy to communicate. She cares for students and willing to help if you are struggling. Her lectures are so good that I did not have to read the book even once in order to complete my homework. I really enjoyed this class.
Most of the previous comments I agree with. She teaches well and will tell you to ask if you have a question. Tends to be late by a couple minutes, but class never seemed to run late and we got out early. Project at the end of the year came a little later than I would have liked. I believe she has the teaching thing down.
Who ever said they didnt even have to read the book is full of crap. I basically had to teach myself to understand what was going on in the class. If you think you have a grip on the material your wrong. Teacher was constantly late and didnt even show one day. Folberg seemed annoyed answering some questions, and couldnt even answer them some times.
This is by far the worst teacher I have ever had PCC. If you want to spend all your time reading the book, feel free to take her.
The class is hard because there is no grade for homework. if you keep at it she is very kind and eager to help although it is hard to get an outstanding grade in the class if you show interest it is also very hard to fail.
@ the beginning of term she lays out how she will run class, lets u know "if u do not do ur homework, u will fail!" UNDERSTAND that, people in class think she was joking, until they realized they failed two midterms in a row. Now we are getting ready for finals and they want to be graded on a curve. Not happening! Do your homework & she'll guide u!
Lisa is a nice person and I wont say that she doesn't know what she is talking about. It is true what she says "if you dont do your homework you will fail" But here is the problem: I'd find myself understanding the in class work, and the homework and seeing none of what I studied for on the test. 2/3rds of my class failed because of this.
Overall a good instructor. She lectures off the examples on her notes. Very helpful to answer student questns. You need to do the h/w assignd. Quizes are actual h/w problms. Test are straight forward. Only test on what she's covered. No suprises. I have a strong math background so this class was easy. I would recomm her.
Lisa Folberg is the worst teacher at PCC Rock Creek Campus. She does not give the appropriate help to her students when they need it. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SAVE YOUR GPA, do not take her. On top of that, her teaching style is not very clear and she seems to hesitate on certain questions that students ask. Hope this helps!
I had Lisa for both Calc 1 and 2 because of my schedule. I would not recommend her at all unless you are REALLY good at teaching yourself (or you've taken it before). She is a horrible lecturer, often can't answer questions asked in class, and she doesn't prepare you well for her exams, which I'm certain she couldn't pass herself.
As others pointed out, she can get off-track or "absent-minded" but she knows the material and corrects any errors. Otherwise she explains the concepts well, tests over exactly what we covered in class, is friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed taking Calculus from her, and would take her classes in the future.
Quite honestly, I am just lucky I had already taken math 111 at western oregon, otherwise I would have been royally screwed. She cannot teach at all and I would not recommend her for new 111 students unless you feel you are very good math. The two students who sat next to me did not get lucky with a C like I did, in fact they both failed.
She is a awesome teacher that teaches Math like a reading class, I was satisfied in her class and Will take another class with her. She never collects student homework, but in her class I feel free to do my homework without due to hand it to her. In her class I could improve my Math and I feel progress.
I was not satisfied at all with her class. Her lectures were aloof and unsatisfactory. She had many absences and used substitutes who had no idea what they were doing (because she did not leave them any adequate notes). Her tests do not reflect the material she covers in class, or her homework.
Horrible class. Her teaching style was all over the place. Her tests didn't reflect the homework at all. Over half my class (and at least 4 people in her other class) were passing until they flunked her TERRIBLE final. The material was completely foreign. I had an 89% before the final and didn't pass the class.
She is a terrible teacher. I scheduled times to meet with her 4 different times, she no showed 3 and only spend about 5 mins with me the only time she showed up. She was at least 15 mins late for every class. Here tests did not reflect her covered material at all. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND HER!
Always late. Assigns problems she can't do herself. Says use the book, then in class says well, don't follow the book. Has not returned any of my emails, as well as some tests. What is covered in class is rarely on tests. Changes her mind on what will be on tests, huge range to study, 'just in case. I've never been so confused, steer clear people!
Lisa was nice and really spent time going over the homework, however tests and quizes DID NOT reflect the study guides. Shes the teacher that will mark you down if your equal signs are not aligned.
DO NOT TAKE HER. I made the mistake of taking her and it was the worst experience. You will never know your grade even if you ask her for it. She is extremely forgetful. She doesn't check her email either, so basically don't make an appointment with her because she won't show because she forgot. Worst teacher ever.
Her class was disappointing. Chronically late and disorganized when she arrives. Spends more than half of the class discussing homework problems due to the fact that she assigns over 75 homework problems. Tends to be tangential. Tests almost never match the material covered in the chapter. Midterm and final review material is seriously lacking.
This professor was nothing but a let down for me. She was late every single class and always had an excuse for it. Comprehension of some of the math problems was difficult for her, resulting in nothing but frustration for me when trying to solve equations. Also, the material on the tests are not covered whatsoever in class sessions. Stay away.
Honeslty she is not a good teacher. She doesn't even know the material and were in the second week. Classes are boring and her lab assignments are stupid. I would not recommend her. Make sure you have the book because you'll need it to teach yourself. Honestly she is bad ;) both ways Dont take her
LOL no, just no. Please, whatever you do find someone else or if you're willing to teach yourself. I was doubtful of these ratings but I should've listened. Her expectations are different from many. There are NO review midterms and not many quizzes, you NEED to do the homework, really. 1st mid test 57% class average score.
Very disorganized grading system and confusing class lectures. Spends the majority of class time talking about a couple homework problems so the class was always behind the syllabus schedule.
I'm glad I dropped her class. Doesn't know how to use her calculator, very very confusing examples and explanations, doesn't tell you what concept you're learning, and it was painfully obvious the class was confused/lost pretty much all the time.
The class was super lecture based and didn't have many problems for students to work on in class, which made it boring. She explained concepts well but there was just a lot of talking.
There are three tests followed by a final which replaces your lowest score. Folberg is a nice teacher and cares about her students. She makes sure the class goes over any homework questions and she's always willing to help. If you sit up front, participate, and ask a lot of questions. She'll take notice and appreciate that. Highly recommend her!
Professor Lisa is really great at understanding. If you have late hw, she will accept it once and she is always happy to help you. However, you must prepare for your quizzes/exams, she gets creative and usually adds some tricky exercises.
She told my class she drops the lowest test grade (INCLUDING the final), I had an A- all term until the final that was WAY harder than anything previously. My grade on the final was my lowest and she did not drop it and gave me a C- in the class. I immediately asked her about it, she claimed she never said that even though I have it in her writing
Lisa was a great teacher, I first took her for 251 and now I'm taking her for 252. She spends half the class lecturing and the other half is the lab. It's clear she loves math and just wants to help her students through the class. Also, you don't need the lab manual for her class, just the actual textbook itself.
Awesome math teacher. Super clear explanations and really makes sure you understand. Because if you don't you wont pass. Also doesn't require you to turn in homework, but if you don't do it you'll probs get lost.
She grades off of weekly quizzes and 3 exams (including the final). She gives a few opportunities for extra credit as well. I loved Lisa because she cares a ton about her students and genuinely wants her students to pass. I struggled a ton but she let me bombard her with questions without getting annoyed. Highly recommend.
Her teaching style is traditional. As long as you are asking questions and taking effective notes during class you'll do good on tests. Study guides for upcoming tests lack specific detail but her extensive review of homework questions in class from students is very beneficial to understanding the concepts taught.
Lisa is one of the better math teachers I've ever had. She is charismatic and really wants to see you succeed and understand and will stop and re-explain something if you need it. Calculus is definitely a hard class but Lisa made it easier for me to understand. I signed up for her MTH252 class so I hope if you take her you like her too.
So... I heard about this teacher from a friend last term and forget she was the teacher my friend was talking about. I regret forgetting the name... She lectures too much to the point she confuses herself! HW is MANDATORY OR YOU WILL GET BEHIND AND FAIL. Everyone in this class is lost and it is painfully obvious. Also, I am writing this in class...
She doesn't have things on top of her head, she doesn't show up to most classes and will not give you your tests back on time! She doesn't know how to teach and do work, she will never answer your specific question and goes of tangent
She is a horrible teacher. Gives a lot of hw and if it is not done then you are definitely going to fail. She is not responsible and does not answer emails or calls. Very bad at teaching. She doesnt give the work back on time and constantly thinks that she is smarter and doesnt go over it correctly how it is needed. Doesnt put any effort as t.
I love Lisa. I've taken her 251 class as well and they were both easier than I thought. She made it a lot easier for me to understand and really wants to see you succeed. I had a lot of apprehension about this class and she laid out clear guidelines for what's on her tests and labs. She's really smart and creative and I enjoyed her classes.
Very scatter brained and doesn't have a plan for class. Tends to just shoot from the hip, and often makes up problems to use as examples. Many times, she won't be able to solve them, or will miss a step and solve them improperly. You wind up erasing your notes multiple times. Also, misses a lot of days. Flaky on office hours. Overwhelmed by life.
So many hw and so little explanation in class. doesn't have a plan for the class and most of the time gets nervous and end up solving wrong when asked a question. I would not recommend for anyone that needs every little detail explained in a math class, or often needs time to understand a problem.
This is my 9th PCC Math class. Lisa easily ranks last among them. We're all struggling through COVID, but she could have done better. You'll get feedback and graded HW sometimes 3-4 weeks late. It's too bad I had to pay PCC when I know i should have sent the money to Chegg, Slader and YouTube artists. Just be prepared to teach yourself the material
Good at explaining, just need to make sure to pay attention during class and actively take notes. Her class is based on exams and maybe a few homework.
She's nice but any class higher than math 111 with her feels like she's trying to teach students the material while also learning it herself. She continuously has to go back and rework problems because of mistakes which makes following along extremely challenging. She also takes weeks to respond to emails, which is frustrating.
I should've seen the writing on the wall before I signed up. Not only does she refuse to post ZOOM recordings of the class but also wants to lecture US about how it's an "inferior learning" style. This is NOT the time to be pulling that sort of crap on us, especially given the current climate. I'm very glad I backed out before it was too late.
The only thing stopping me from giving her a 1 rating is that she is very nice and always made jokes during class. But, the way she taught was terribly confusing. She never responded to emails. She took months to grade anything, so we wouldn't know where we stood before going into an exam. Also, the way she posted assignments made no sense.
Lectures were explained wrong most of the time, she does not grade fairly, barely explains her mistakes, rushes into things and gets distracted easily. SO many homeworks with so little explanation. If you need detailed knowledge or you need time to understand a concept, run away from this instructor.
Does not explain well at all. Very hard to understand especially online. Tests are hard and her grading is unfair. Would never pick this professor again.
Lisa has some tough reviews on this site, but I have taken her for several classes and have nothing negative to say. She is organized, clear about expectations and homework and very helpful when it comes to answering questions and going over misunderstood concepts. Good homework and reasonable labs and exams.
She was alright. Reasonable grader. Even if you aren't right, you will get some credit unless you're just doing something completely off track. HW and lectures comparable to any math class (AKA lots but focused, a few problems per topic as you need in math). Had breaks which is good for adhd. She sometimes seemed confused about the work though
Lots of unnecessary homework and labs that don't prepare you for either the quizzes or the exams
Fairly unremarkable, but she can be pretty fun. Engaging enough lectures, and pretty clear abt what she expects of you on tests and quizzes for the most part.
Most incompetent teacher I've ever had, on par with that one in high school that literally lost test papers. She had no clue what she was doing, couldn't even figure out problems and had to ask students for help. Tests didn't follow the textbook review. You'll learn more from YouTube videos, please don't waste your money and suffer like we did.
She missed 7 classes in one term, two days without sub. We were still graded just as hard as if we learned everything properly. There were topics on mid terms and the final that were only given on homework so if you didn't know how to learn it on your own you were out of luck. She's a nice person but should not be a teacher, I do not recommend.
you are pretty much expected to teach yourself how to do the majority of the work yourself, will go over the material a very base amount and throw you to the wind, pretty much never gives the opportunity to ask questions. often misses class without notice and she does not have set dates for quizes and mid terms.
lisa if you are reading this please find a new job, you would be great at the dmv or something like that
The worst math experience I've ever had since 7th grade. If you like to actually learn IN CLASS and not from YouTube videos, do not take her class. Grades you off of "proper formatting" more than the actual math done. Quizzes are almost entirely different than what you do in class and in the homework. Will blame you when over half the class fails.
