I like her! She makes thing interesting and her tests are fair. The tests in human geo are mostly from the notes, but you still need to read the textbook if you want to get an A.
Newer professor but she is excellent and is really passionate about her students. Ask questions, she is willing to help. She follows the textbook and her syllabus well so you are never lost. Also provides in class assignments for added clarity and practice. Attend class and you are sure to do well!
Funny prof and has a great sense of humor. Takes a while to mark assignments but feedback is helpful. Make sure you know your stuff because she sure does. Be prepared to work hard on essays because she looks for great amounts of depth and logic in writing.
One of the best profs ive ever had. She held my interest in class by her enthusiasm and by showing video demonstrations in class. Read the notes and text book and you will do well
I absolutely loved Lisa Christmas during class. She was so funny, sarcastic and random. She knows how to keep you interested (most of the time) but make sure you study the text book hard for mid term/ final!
she was a great prof...you need to show up to all classes..make sure your a fast writer for note taknig lol very funny. and she keeps you interested..make sure you know your notes...and READ THE TEXT BOOK!!! and you'll do great!!
Good prof. Was very clear in her instructions.
Seemed too busy for students outside of class. Also was absolutely no help in preparing for tests. I payed the university for her to teach me, not listen to her useless stories and various issues with people. I did not care for this professor at all!!!
LOUD!!!! VERY LOUD!!! Otherwise, an okay prof.
my favorite prof! Was very clear on notes and lectures, kept you entertained! must attend classes, but no textbook needed. I would recommend her to anyone!
What a great prof. Interesting, clear and will do one-on-one with your exam to help you with what you got wrong. Made me fall in love with physical geography. Must attend class, take notes and READ THE TEXTBOOK for an A or A+, but the material is taught so well it's easy to understand. Can't wait to take another of her classes!
Excellent prof! She held my interest so well that I was excited to go to her class. She didn't do reviews for tests but she did clearly indicate important points during note taking. Best prof I had this year :)
She is really funny and incorporates more interesting things into her lectures
She was an excellent prof and really kept my interest in class. She incorporated lots of different ways to learn and tried to make the class fun and easy to understand.
She was the best teacher I had last year, She was funny and actually made an effort to get to know her students. She tried to talk to everyone before class. She was very good at teaching and really emphasised what was important for exams. She is my Favorite prof so far!
The best prof ever.
Nice, easy going, very funny... Makes me WANT to go to class. Everything she does in class is relevant and assists in learning. Bottom line without me rambling too much: Great prof. You'll enjoy her
She is amazing! I have taken as many courses as I could with her! She is adorable and funny! I highly recommend her!!
This is the best prof ever! She is very clear with what she wants you to know, and is really funny and nice! I would highly recommend her!! <3
Christmas ruined my undergrad academic life. Since I took her class, I feel like no professor is good enough. She raised the bar so high, there hasn't been anyone who can keep up with it. I hope more profs are like her. She's one in a million.
Lisa Christmas is AMAZING! There is no reason no to Love this Prof! Geography is a horribly boring subject (in my opinion) but she made it my favourite class of my year! She's clear and absolutely entertaining! Great sense of passion and humour! Must-Have-Prof!
Lisa is the best professor I've ever had at the U of M. I had her for courses last year and I'm sad that this year is the last time I'll get to have her teach me in university. She's hilarious and extremely helpful and actually makes you WANT to go to class!!
Fantastic Prof! Definitely take a class with her if you need Geography. She is veyr helpful and makes class surprisingly enjoyable. I don't even like geography but I'm taking another class with her this year!
Excellent professor, got to know students at a personal level. Very helpful outside of class time in learning class material.
Big fan. Love this prof! Great power pooints for note and great clear explanations. also very funny, keeps you entertained during the boring sections of material. Still need to read the text book tho
She is a great prof. Really got to know the students and would stop and say hi in the hallway. Course materials were clear and concise. Semi-hard marker on the first assignment. Best prof I have ever had and probably ever will have.
My fave prof by far. She is really funny and her tests are not hard.2 midterms and 1 final in both 1280 and 1290. very recommended.
Favorite teacher by far! Makes class fun and keeps it interesting. Super clear with everything and gives examples and/or stories to help you understand better. One of the only Bs I've gotten in a course and THE only A I've gotten on a midterm ha!
My favourite professor at university! She is absolutely wonderful at her job. Lisa is extremely knowledgeable, you can tell she truly cares about her students and wants them to do well in her course. She makes class enjoyable and entertaining, which is excellent. Overall amazing proff! I take at least one course with her each year.
Probably the best instructor I have ever had. I'm upset that I only took her classes as electives and that my major was not geography. I highly recommend that everyone takes a class with her.
Awesome
Love her!
She was amazing! She adds a lot of humor to her lectures and makes rather dry topics really fun and interesting. She also gives a lot of memory tricks that make studying easier. I highly recommend any class with her.
Such a great prof, I was always looking forward to going to her class, I never missed one lecture. Textbook was not really used however do readings if you want an A+. I got a B+ and I only studied 8-10 hours, so ya, VERY GOOD prof, take her!!!
Wow! Best prof i've had by far!! She definitely knows how young minds think and makes activities that will ensure you remember the concepts she goes over in class. Her teaching style will want you to never miss a class and the videos she shows are highly stimulating and really make you think about today's society.
Awesome prof! Great lectures just make sure you read through the text book. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Straight-forward, fill in the blank notes, multiple choice midterms and final, very clear explanations. Take classes with her.
Fabulous prof, is passionate about material and knows it very well. Easy to understand explanations of concepts, uses fill in the blank notes, and gives weekly assignments to keep students aware of the world around them. Rubric given for final project, exams mc & long answer. Lisa takes time to interact with students in and outside of the classroom
So exuberant
Nice prof, but piles way too much information into the exams. It's 50 minutes for 50 questions, that's 60 seconds a question. We don't have time for booklets etc. ALL her exams are cumulative and have separate textbook questions making that mandatory. She's nice and helpful but too hard, i'd look elsewhere.
VERY CAPTIVATING! I had no interest in geography whatsoever, but she brings the subject to life! She is also just a cool person with an awesome sense of humour. I got a B on the first midterm because I underestimated it. So the tests are a little tricky but fair if you know your stuff!
Her tests are confusing. If you do bad on one midterm, you do bad in the whole course. Her class consists of two midterms and one final. You can see how its brutal if you do badly on one midterm.
She's been good. I've had a little trouble getting through to her with e-mail but I took this class last year with another prof and she's Lisa is 1000000000 times better!
I LOVE HER! She is one of my fav prof. There are three exams and three assignments, easy to pass and clear grading. She is super funny and keeps the class interesting. I was looking forward to her class everyday. TOTALLY RECOMMEND! Professors like her should exist more! Explains perfectly clear in several different ways so everyone understands!
Take any course you can with Lisa Ford. She is one of the best teachers I have ever experienced. She gives great criteria and feedback and allows you to pre-submit most assignments to improve them. Super interesting lectures, fun and inspirational. Definitely respected by students. She is the one to beat. You get what you earn with her.
Comedian.
Best teacher in University thus far. :)
Acts all nice an funny lectures are easy then boom hits you with huge project and grades it super hard and you don't get it back until after the final.
Lisa is incredibly enthusiastic about human geography which made it really easy to go to class. She was very helpful during and outside of class and went out of her way to make sure content was understood. Lectures do not follow the text so you have to go to class, she also asks questions about text content so it's good to stay on top of readings.
Loved her as a person. Definitely makes you work for your grade. Fill in the blank style notes, so don't skip class, or make a good friend. ;) Tests are fair. Not overly difficult, but not easy enough to skip studying. I always say that she kind of looks like Amy Farah Fowler from the Big Bang Theory. This just makes me love her more!
I am not a Geography major but I took GEOG1290 as an elective and loved it because of this professor. She's extremely knowledgable and goes over important concepts several times to ensure that everyone understands. Her multiple choice exams are straightforward and fair if you study and come to class, no tricks. I highly recommend Ms. Ford
She's great, she could be stereotypical about the North End, I was only offended because, she didn't know anything about it. Her tests are super easy, the questions were straight forward. She likes to get the class to interact with each other, she even handed out candy to demonstrate certain concepts. She has partial notes, go to class.
One of the best profs ever!! She is hilarious and makes it so easy to pay attention in class. Do not skip class, her notes are fill in the blank but very helpful! There were questions based on the textbook but I didn't find it necessary to read (still got an A without the textbook). Straight forward tests, no tricks!
Took it just for elective, and did not expect to be so intrigued by the class. I can't stress enough how awesome she is. She cares about individual students, gives amazing lectures, and makes her class as interesting as possible. Her lectures are easy to understand, just come to class, listen to what she says, and there is your A.
LIsa is the best prof at U of M. I would take every course she offers because of how funny and interesting she is. Though she is easy to talk to and will help you with any questions, you need to make sure you study because her exams range from average to hard. need to attend class as she does fill in the blank notes. overall a great prof.
Lisa Ford is my absolute favourite prof! She is the reason I decided to major in geography because she makes her classes so interesting! She is very kind, helpful, and funny! I try to take as many classes as I can with her and I always look forward to them! I found her tests to be very easy but I always studied a lot for them
Awesome professor! She's really funny and gives really intriguing lectures; made geography interesting. Be sure to show up for class, she has fill in the blank notes, and I would recommend using the textbook as there are always a handful of textbook-based questions on the exams. Exams are fairly straightforward, study and you will do well.
By far one of the best profs I have ever had. She is very passionate about her job which is very clear in her lectures .
Lisa is a wonderful prof! Her notes are fill in the blank so going to class is essential to passing. Her lectures are easy to listen to because of her awesome sense of humour. The exams are fair and mostly based off of the notes that she provides you with, there are a couple textbook questions though. Definitely recommend taking a class with her!
Lisa is very easily able to explain the concepts she teaches & will always have a funny story to attach to the lesson. She has the perfect blend of mastery in her field & ability to teach/explain, which I can't say for all profs. Highly suggest taking her courses if you want a wide range of knowledge about the world & a genuine good time. I 3 LISA
I felt like I was in middle/high school again taking this course. The material is easy. The tests were mainly multiple choice relating to definitions, as well as questions from the lab exercises that she assigns throughout the term. That said, I JUST wrote the final in about an hour and it went well. She will be there if you ask for help.
Lisa is a wonderful professor! Love her enthusiasm and passion for this course. 2 midterms, 1 final and homework assignments. Lots of information but will be easy if you know the material. Would likely take any courses with her if I could!
The notes she provided is sufficient enough that you don't need to read the textbook, however the notes she provides are fill in the blank notes, so going to class is essential to passing. Lectures are easy to listen to, and the material can be easy but you still need to study to do well. Tests are straight forward, no tricks.
I found this class slightly harder than GEOG1280 if you've taken that class with her, but she's still a great professor! Hilarious, dynamic lectures, and she provides excellent notes and explanations. Be sure to attend every class as she has fill in the blank notes.
Lisa is a wonderful professor! She is very funny and enthusiastic during her lectures! This class is an easy A if you study for it. The material is somewhat more difficult, but still do able! Love her as a prof
Wonderful prof, hilarious, enthusiastic. Her lectures consist of fill in the blank powerpoint slides, so you must attend class. There are 2 midterms and a final, questions are based off notes, textbook readings, and videos watched in class. Overall very easy course. Take any course with her if you can!
Nice teacher
Lisa Ford is a fantastic prof. Her course outline is straightforward. Missing her class is not encouraged because you will missue a lot of work. She is very enthusiastic about the subject she teaches which in turn makes students happy to be in class. I always looked forward to going to class. It is encouraged to read your notes and study
Has fill in the blank notes, her exams come from her slides (which come from the textbook) and work book. Funny prof. Don't need to buy the textbook package from the bookstore. Would take her again.
Lisa is by far the best instructor in her department. She is clear, fair and genuinely cares about her students. She makes dry material interesting with personal stories and humour. Her tests reflect exactly what is taught with no surprises. She grades fairly. She is a real gem and the department should be very grateful to have her.
One of the best profs I've ever had. She used fill in the blank slides, super helpful. She even gave us chocolate to explain a concept 10/10 would recommend
Definitely the best professor I have had. I took this class only as an elective, but I ended up LOVING the course. Her lectures were so enthusiastic and she had so much energy that it never felt like and hour and 15 minutes had passed by. Going to class is a must because of her fill in the blank notes, but going to her lectures is never a chore.
I have taken other classes with her and she has brought up my GPA with these classes.
One of my favourite profs at the university. She is hilarious and makes class worth going to. There are no surprises on her tests, but her tests are worded differently from her lectures. She asks one or two very detailed questions from the textbook on her tests so make sure you are reading the text. I highly recommend taking a class with her!
Lisa makes going to class a pleasure. She is so enthusiastic about what she teaches it makes lectures immensely interesting, and this is coming from someone who waited until their forth year to get their science requirement. 10/10 would recommend. Absolutely loved her!
This is my third course I've taken with Lisa Ford and I love her teaching style! Really knows her stuff and the enthusiasm shows. She has fill in the blank lecture notes so attendance is mandatory. There is a final project for this course and I recommend you get started immediately, I let it wait a little and it was became a huge source of stress!
Lisa was an amazing professor and really incorporated humour and real life situations into the class to make it more interesting ! Just make sure to attend class for the notes and read the text as some of the questions in her midterms and final are straight out of the text!
There is a lot of materials to know for this course in such a short time. She expects you to memorize information from the lecture, textbook, wileyplus modules, and videos. This is not a booster course!
She is the best prof I have ever had in university. She has so much energy. She made the time fly by. She always loves when people ask questions and gives them meaningful answers. Her excitement keeps everyone engaged! She makes geography fun! I would highly recommend her.
Expect to put in alot of hours after class in summer as the course can go really fast. she is on fast forward when she talks. Lisa is the best professor and u of m. class discussions which make the material easier to remember. this is a easy way to boost your gpa. read the textbook. questions on final exam are precisely from her powerpoints
You need the textboook, a chunk of all the exams are based off that info. Lisa is hilarious and makes dry material kinda interesting. The tests are straight forward but you definitely need to study, cause its a lot of memorization. I would definitely recommend her class if you need a GPA booster, BUT don't expect to get by without doing any work.
You NEED the textbook, a chunk of the exam info is based on it. Lisa is hilarious and makes dry material kinda interesting. Her exams are straight forward, but you need to study b/c of all the memorization. I would recommend this course as a GPA booster, but don't expect to get an A with out putting in the work.
She's really great, I didn't wanna take geography but I needed to and she made it really enjoyable. She's also really clear with what she expects on assignments and gives detailed feedback that's actually helpful. I learned a lot from her.
Lisa is one of the best professors I have ever had. She is so funny, knows her material, and super easy to get along with. I would take every class with her if i could
brutal, literally either show up too her class cause thats the only material you're given. Good luck.
She mark paper is very hard!!!!! when you get feedback and ask her she can't give you a clear common why you get that. avoid her. not recommended.
Lisa is great at teaching, however her material can be a bit heavy because she expects you to memorize the textbook, the lectures, videos, etc. It's a lot in a short amount of time. However, as long as you keep up its not hard to get a good grade in her course. She explains everything super well too, which helps a lot!
Most overrated prof I've ever had don't understand how she has great reviews must be coming from part time students who have time to put in unreasonable hours for such a poorly taught class. Everything about this class is crap. 50 multiple choice questions on a midterm that covers 150 PP slides each slide containing at least 5 important notes...
great class if you're a science major...
If you like going over hundreds of power point slides and being tested on 20% of the material than perfect class for you.
don't understand how can she get so much good review. No one has marked over 70 on her paper.
Too much material, too many slides and videos, lots of slides for each exam, assignment is also complicated
Great Prof that wants her students to succeed. Very enthusiastic and passionate about the subject matter, she gave many real life examples/diagrams during lecture. Really helps you to understand the topic. Educational videos are a bonus!
too much material to cover for such a small test and final assignment is garbage.
Good sense of humor, makes the dry material tolerable. Two midterms and a final, all multiple choice. Fill in the blank notes all class every class. I would take a class with her again.
Going to class is almost mandatory, but other than that good teacher with good notes
Great Prof ! Super interesting and very funny. The content is this class is very easy although she does ask textbook questions so you have to know your stuff. One of my favourite university professors!
Lisa is great prof, she is very heavy on the textbook questions so dont take this if you dont like to read. This class has some really interesting material. I took it on line and it had three papers and a final. But if you follow her rubrics then its easy to get a good marks on the papers. Overall, definitely one of the best profs at the u of m
Taking notes is essential because she will hint info. during the lectures that will be on the exam. Best way to get really great exam marks is to look at bolded terms on slides and the textbook, understand the boring videos she makes you watch, and focus on the examples she gives for each term. Overall, she's a great prof and I would retake her!
You will need to come to class for the notes and also need to read the textbooks. Exams are based on the notes + videos + lectures + textbook which can get really tough.
Lisa was a great prof and I found her lectures easy to listen to. Her slides and notes are really good and her exams are super easy if you pay attention during class. One of my fav profs
You need to show up to her lectures because her slides have blanks you need to fill in. She is SUPER funny/entertaining and very caring. The class is very interesting but it is a little difficult since you need to remember things from the notes, the textbook and youtube videos. BUT she will always tell you what to pay attention to in the textbook!
Lisa is fantastic prof. While it's true that there are many slides + a fair amount of reading, I think she's quite clear with what is and isn't tested. The reason I appreciate her as a prof is because she is clear in her lectures and takes time to ask for questions so everyone understands. She is super approchable. I'm never bored in her class.
She is a really good prof and makes the course material manageable. You should be going to the lectures as she does drawings on the board explaining certain topics and there will be videos shown in class that are questions on the tests. Also questions from the textbook, easy A if you do the work.
Prof. Ford is one of the best professors i've ever had at the U of M. Very entertaing lectures, she is a great speaker and very funny. I found the class very easy too. I highly reccomend.
She's a very caring professor and one of my most favorite one to have ever taken a class with. I have never taking a geography course, being a part of the health science stream, but she made all the concepts very easy to understand. She answered all of my questions in class, and always checked to make sure we were on track. Awesome prof!
Shes a good prof, the course was just very heavy and this class needs you to put in quite a bit of time to remember all of the material. Only 10% of your mark is not exams
Thanks for the people that recommended her to me, I also feel she is one of the best profs in the department. Gives clear direction on what to expect on the midterm and exam. explain them via illustration to help some students understand. She uses blank notes to encourage you to attend classes. Straightforward & She is funny
Partial notes, makes you come to class, taken extremely difficult courses in my uni career and done well, but risk a poor grade in a flipping geo class.. Course is heavy with a tremendous amount of information, she grinds right till the last day of class and questions can literally be from anywhere Her teaching styles are questionable
Honestly my favorite prof! She is so easy to listen to and you won't get distracted in her class. She marks exactly how she says with no tricks and gives a good detailed rubric. Highly recommend her!
partial notes keep your attention on the class, so you end up knowing everything providing you showed up. She also states further helpful examples in class on topics that she will for sure test on therefore it's useful to write these down as well. A class act, such a bouncy happy attitude, this Prof will make you want to come to class early.
She is an excellent professor, I wish I could take more courses with her. She is very clear and provides great feedback on assignments. She is very clear about what she wants on assignments and tests.
Geo is probably not my best subject but Lisa made it so much easier for me to understand the concepts. she repeats important things to make sure we grasp the concept fully. Plus she hints some of the things that will be on the midterm/ exam. hands down one of the best profs i had.
Such a good prof, I highly recommend Lisa! My favorite prof at UofM to say the least! Explains all material in such good detail and is more than willing to explain it further if needed!
Lisa is awesome. She really surprised me with how generous she is on marking the written assignment/paper we had to do. The online homework is easy and the tests/final exam are the same, all thats needed to do is to rewrite textbook material in your notebook to study. I had a great time learning this term with her and I wish more profs were similar
Had her for GEOL 1280 and 1290. She explained content in a way that was easy to understand with occasional humor, and emphasized what would be on the exams. I really appreciated her fill in the blank notes, they were good for such a lecture-heavy course. Read the textbook too if you want to get no less than an A.
I can confidentially say Lisa Ford is the BEST professor at the U of M. Lectures are engaging, she truly cares about how her students learn. She is accessible and extremely responsive to emails. Clear rubrics are provided for every written assignment and expectations are made clear at the beginning of term. She infuses each lecture with humor.
Lisa is a good and caring prof, but this course is very lengthy you must do a lot of reading from notes, textbook and watch videos to get a good grade. Quizzes were lil difficult, but the final exam was quite easy and straightforward. She gives fill-in notes which makes it easy to make notes. Overall, her lectures were interesting.
Professor Ford is honestly a gem. Not only does she have a great sense of humor, her slideshows and lectures are concise and she is very clear on what she expects on tests. Build your notes around the textbook and add on exclusive information from the slideshows for an A+/A. Writing assignment instructions were very clear and she was very lenient
I love Lisa! She was my favourite class, super hard things to learn, but super fair. If you put in the effort you wont be disappointed! I am seriously considering Majoring in Geography just from this one class of hers I took. Especially during the pandemic she made it super easy to keep up and layed it all out, incase you get behind or ahead! 10/10
I've taken 2 classes with Lisa Ford and she's been great! She teaches everything very clearly and makes sure students understand all the material. Make sure you understand everything cause the tests/exams can be really hard if you don't study well. She is kind and her grading is very fair, overall a great prof!
Her slides are very clear, organized, and easy to understand. Tests are quite simple but she can grade papers hard.
I really wish I did not take this class with Prof Ford. Her class was extremely hard with too much material and she expected you to remember everything for her exam which were all multiple choice. She made us do packsacks that were worth very little & took too much time. I felt her expectations were unrealistic and hope never to see her again.
Lisa's PowerPoint are straightforward but she talks fast. For tests and exams she's not lenient with time or being able to move freely between questions . The pack backs that are required weekly are okay but time consuming. Overall tough class since concepts are very broad and tests and exams are difficult with such short time.
Lisa is a really nice prof who tries her best to make the course as easy as she can. She gives a clear outline on what to expect for quizzes and the exam, so you do not have to worry about studying other things. 4 quizzes, 11 discussion questions, which were done on Packback, easy 15% of the final grade. Exam was cumulative, 120 questions.
lots of memorizing, boring and overlapping concepts can make this course somewhat confusing at times. lisa is a good prof, but she talks too fast during lectures. textbook is a must, always watch the lectures as the quizzes and final exam are HEAVILY based off of those. Class went on strike too which was wack.
Lots of recorded lectures in this class, so be prepared for that! Mark is based on 4 quizzes, weekly discussion posts and final exam. Material is for the most part easy to understand but there is lots of it, so if you get behind you wont do well on quizzes/exams. Quizzes/exams are easy if you know the basic material.
Best prof @ UofM! Lisa is very organized and truly cares about her students. Her classes are very enjoyable, I have almost taken every one she teaches. She is always there to help students through one-on-one meetings/emails. Always in a good mood! If you are interested in Geography, it almost doesn't feel like work with her. 10/10 favourite teacher
Professor teaches too fast and there is so much material
Dr. Ford is extremely organized & passionate about the course content. However, she claims that there isn't enough time during lecture to teach every concept in the textbook, so students must do the assigned readings. But there were multiple times where lectures were only 30-40 mins. Why not use that extra time to go over more textbook concepts?
She is extremely well organized and made the DE course a breeze, just really appreciated her knowledge and thorough planning. Would take another course with her in a heartbeat.
Lisa has a very fun personality when lecturing so the classes were always engaging. It was also very easy to reach her outside class and she was always helpful with any inquiries I had. She is a fair grader and you will have no issues doing well in this class if you do everything that is needed
Very thoughtful and caring prof. Gave us lots of practice before we were to do an exam of quiz to make things go smoother. There are many chances to boost your grade through quizzes 2 midterms and a final and packback posts!
Prof Ford is very organized and her expectations for you are clear. She also gives assignments that hlep you practice for questions on the midterms and exam. However, the weekly course load for this distanced course was massive and there is a lot of information each chapter. Overall good prof, interesting class, but massive course load each week.
Professor Ford was great! Marks were based off many different aspects so lots of chances to boost your grade if you did poorly on one thing. 5% academic writing quiz, 20% packback, 15% Test 1, 15% test 2, research paper 20% and final exam 25%. Tests were pretty straight forward especially if you came to class and paid attention.
One of my favourite profs. She is super engaging and makes what you are learning super interesting and fun. I totally recommend her for anyone who is looking for electives!!
Lisa is a dope prof, she's really engaging. Sort of a tough marker though, & lots of weekly homework. You HAVE to write discussion posts as twenty % of your grade so DO NOT SKIP THEM like I did. Her lectures matter so while attendance isn't mandatory if you miss class then tough luck. Despite this, she is a super kindhearted prof and nice person.
Geography 1290 with Lisa Ford was a great experience! Lectures covered a lot of information, but the content was discussed thoroughly. All exams and assignments were multiple choice questions. Exams were always fair, and the content matched the lectures and the assigned textbook readings.
First semester at the university and I'm so grateful I had Lisa as one of my first Professors. She's funny, engaging, and as long as you show up for class and take notes this class isn't very difficult.
This was a heavy course with a lot to memorize, but for the material, the prof did a good job being thorough in explanations. She offered plenty of resources to succeed. She does expect the class to answer classes throughout lectures usually to review topics from a previous lecture. She is a unique character and keeps it interesting.
Lisa Ford is a great person and even better instructor. She is very passionate in what she is teaching. Lisa provides assignments worth little marks however assist in understanding the course material in order to succeed on the mid terms. I took this course for my science requirement and it turned out to be one of my favorite classes.
Lisa is great, her lectures are enjoyable and it's easy to take away the necessary concepts. The content both in lecture and online is extremely comprehensive and easy to follow. She is extremely direct and does away with fluff but it is obvious that a great deal of care is taken when curating her content, which I appreciate greatly.
Energetic, funny, friendly. Attendance is definitely a must because she goes over a lot of content in each class. She talks very fast so don't try to write everything she says while you're taking notes, just the key points. There's a lot to learn & there's a couple essays, so it's not an easy class, but she makes it interesting!
Professor Ford is a unique character who keeps the class interesting despite the heavy course load. While the material requires a lot of memorization, she offers ample resources and opportunities to succeed, like Packback discussions and practice quizzes. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for study prep.
Lisa is a decent prof and I could understand her well during lectures. although she moves pretty fast. she teaches a lot of material in her lectures and her tests were tricky for me.
After 6 years of university, Lisa is by far the best prof i've ever had. She has amazing lectures that are clear, concise and very well explained. She tells you EXACTLY what is expected for any papers or assignments. She is super well organized and keeps lectures super fun and interesting! You won't regeret taking a class with her!
Lisa ford is an amazing teacher. Her assignments and tests were fair and she was a great lecturer. Attending class was fun and she made it so easy to understand. Was considering going into geo for a sec because of her. Will not regret taking a class with her, plus she's hilarious.
I took her class for the first time this fall, and she was wonderful. I highly recommend taking her class. One suggestion I have is for writing assignments: make sure to meet with her before submitting your work. Be sure to pay attention in class and take good notes. She genuinely wants her students to succeed and clearly loves what she does.
Really fun class I totally recommend for elective! The lectures are hilarious and she really cares about her students
Avoid GEOG-1280-D01 with Lisa Ford. The prof is petty with grading—I got 0% on a 93% assignment for not using an external webcam. She's overly strict on a weird APA format and fails over tiny mistakes. Took it as a GPA booster, but it tanked me. Save yourself the stress and skip this class.
I'm struggling with the course and feel I may fail. The classroom environment could be more respectful, and some comments from the professor seem discriminatory. It's important for all students to feel valued. Additionally, the midterm/exam timing is too short only a minute per question.
ok so this prof was really not it, cuz tell me why she kept picking on some countries for their culture and stuff, and whoever is saying her class is easy and stuff didnt feel hated by her comments because if you wanna do good in a course you should feel welcomed not judged when you walk in it.
Excellent instructor. Provides clear and detailed instructions for assignments. Lectures are well presented and entertaining. 1280 and 1290 with Lisa are great to improve your assignment writing, as the provided criteria is thorough, she is enthusiastically helpful if you have questions, and feedback is pertinent and applicable.
Honestly, this was one of the best profs I've had so far. Super funny and made lectures way more enjoyable than I expected for a human geography class. She was always cracking jokes or telling random stories that helped you remember the material. You could tell she genuinely cared and wanted us to do well. Would 100% take another class from her.
Good professor. Was clear about what would and wouldn't be covered on exams. You need to study (of course) and if you do, you should do pretty well in this class with her.
The best profs I've had in university so far! Great lectures and super engaging. She made it clear what content would be on tests and even provided flashcards and practices quizzes for each chapter. Made geography fun and easy to understand. Highly recommend taking any class with her!
This prof was absolutely lovely. She was so caring and had no problem helping me out and clarifying my questions. Her lectures are super clear and concise while also engaging and entertaining! Would take again w Prf. Ford.
Prof is super nice and actually cares about students. You can tell she wants you to do well but you have to study to pass and make sure you follow the rules for the online tests. Not an easy A, but fair. If you put in the effort, it's worth it. Would take another course with her.
I'm not sure how Lisa has received such amazing feedback. The assignments on paper should be easy, but Lisa managed to complicate everything and it made me feel like I was learning all over again. The tests had lots of “trick lines” and what should be a good intro course or easy gpa booster was made way too difficult.
Super helpful prof—spent a ton of time emailing me and making sure I understood everything. I got a really good grade thanks to her guidance. You do need an external webcam for the course, but if you have one, it's not a big deal. Would definitely recommend.
Took a course with her back in 2020 that I ultimately had to drop. Have a near 4.0 GPA 5 years later, realizing she and Janna Wilson were the issue, not me. Both relied heavily on the textbook and read right from it, no structure, just overall real bad. Find better instructors, I beg you.
Gave 0% on my paper after an academic advisor approved it as being properly sited. She said she would not change my grade as there were two or three in text citations that didn't need to be there. Had to drop the class I was on track for an A. Biggest waste of my time and money.
Such an incredibly easy course. Studied the night before my midterm and got an 86% (didnt attend or learn anything until then) Failed 2nd assignment. Dont take the course. Assignment topics are difficult to find research on, the formatting is irritating, and overall not pleasant experience. Dont take if you dont need. better options out there.
Engaging lecturer, inconsistent grader. Take a course with quizzes/Pearson textbook, not written assignments! She made so many errors grading my paper that my grade jumped over 10% from a D to a C+ after I pointed them all out over days of back-and-forth. Extremely tedious and difficult assignment expectations that even tutors complain about.
lost 30% of my overall grade and in-text citation was wrong? Turns out my citation was right I just struggled with understanding the sources and understood it differently. still got a 0 for it. I did this course before and did the exact assignment (different topic) and got nothing lower than a 80%. very unfair.
This course isn't even a written credit, yet two papers were worth 40% of your final grade. I had an A until she failed my second paper for “citation errors” that weren't wrong cause I went back and checked. I paraphrased as she told us to. Plus, the topic was so niche that I barely had sources. The fail dropped me to a C, so I just VW'd the class.
Lisa is the best professor I had at UofM. There are so many bad reviews about the assignment, but she made it very clear about the outline. She goes through the sources on works cited to make sure you didnt cheat. If you meet her outside of class, she goes over your assignment entirely and tells you what to do which got me 90+ in all assignments.
She's really good!
She is a very good prof! only thing is in the class there is two assignments that have a particular topic to research and then you add some of your own interest into that topic. Some found it hard and some found it easy, If you've taken the intro to uni or have had a class where you have to do mod apa you will be fine in this course with the papers
Lisa is amazing! The resources she provides as part of lectures helped tons. I slacked on assigned readings and studying, and definitely could have managed an A had I put more effort in. She is very understanding and though a tough grader, wants you to improve. Her feedback is clear and it only benefits you to ask questions and follow the rubrics.
