This class is a LOT of work, but its worth it because you learn the material. She is extremely helpful and very approachable if you are confused at all.

Pop Final. A take home portion of the final (worth 30% of the final) was given the last class and was due a day and a half later with no warning at all. Watch out because assignments come out of nowhere in this class. Plan for the unexpected...

Great class, especially for Acct Majors that want to really learn the material. Be prepared to do a lot of work, but it pays off in the end. Tests are very do-able, more tests and assigments and she lets you drop your lowest. Class attendance is key.

I took 201 with someone else and I got a C. In this course I've been breezing with an A the whole semester. Don't get me wrong, it's a challenging class. But her teaching and assignments help a LOT - clear, helpful, & relevant (for accounting majors).

She is a very smart person, who wants her students to learn (as long as she's always smartest than everyone). This class takes a LOT of time, but you will learn a LOT. Get on her good side, she has favorites and it reflects in the grades.

You learn a lot when you take her class, yet her test are unfair in certain on certain terms. Though if you really want to go into accounting, and want to learn it big time, take her... she knows what's she's talking about.

Even if you aren't a business major, you should enroll in her beginning courses because not only is she teaching you accounting but also life lessons. This is an effort based class. If you put in the time, your grade will reflect that. In addition, she offers review sessions which are so helpful.

She is very challenging but her class is not impossible. She is very helpful and she really knows what she is talking about. If you really want to learn take her because you not only learn about accounting but you also learn about the real world.

She is a nice woman she seems to have an agenda. Definately a Democrate, and if you fell like being force fed a democratic agenda take her, but minus that her class is fair and very straight forward. I think she is a good teacher, I just dont agree with her political views.

She's as honest as they get, you have to appreciate that from a professor. Her grading system is very fair, you can't argue with that. She's very intelligent; always nice having a person who knows what they're talking about. Really nice and funny person too. Take her. You won't regret it.

Prof. Gillespie is the best accounting professor I have ever had. She is VERY knowledgeable, and eager to help students learn. Be warned though, do not take this class if you expect to walk through it. She expects performance, and rightly so. She's got a good sense of humor. Very firm, but uniformly fair. Lisa Gillespie is great! She explains things well, the assignments, grading, and schedule was fine considering our section was writing intensive,we did the same work as a regular accounting class except we had 5 summaries of newspaper articles to do. You'll be glad you take this class with her, as long as you do your homework and study. Good luck!

For the -kids- who think she's too hard, read the book once in a while and listen in class. If you have a problem, ask a question. I really appreciate that she treats us like adults to take hold of our own education. Too many people want the professor to hold their hand. Very good accounting teacher and maybe you'll get a dose of reality with it.

By now, everyone knows that Gillespie is tough. However, she does a fantastic job of teaching and getting you ready for the real world. There are many quizzes/hw problems/tests/test corrections which can help improve your grade. You do need to attend class to understand what she wants. In the end, this is a very rewarding class.

On the person below me ...she does collect hw randomely but she grades on effort and to make sure u're keeping up with the work. U get full credit for just trying. She is a good teacher who makes sure you have what it takes to make it in the business world. If you don't like her class or the way she teaches maybe u should pick a new career.

HEAVY workload and tough exams; nevertheless, she is an excellent professor and the class taught me more in one semester than I have learned in all my other business classes combined. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for something beyond Loyola's mediocre curriculum.

For those intending to major in ACCT I strongly suggest taking her ASAP. She scared me into learning, applying, and retaining more knowledge than I had in any class taken previously. I leave her class feeling extremely prepared for upper level ACCT courses. If you are just looking to pass this business requirement with an easy A look elsewhere.

Best professor I've had by far at Loyola. I came in hating Accounting and slacking through every class. I left with an A after working my ass off all semester, and that work translated into my other classes and helped me learn to manage my stuff more effectively. If you are a slacker and want to change your ways, I highly recommend her.

Not an easy class but well worth it. She'll make you study harder, manage your time better, and overall become a more responsible person. She's a great teacher, but expect a lot of work. Tests are difficult, and there are pop quizzes. In the end, she applies a MASSIVE curve though, cuz the class average was in the 60s. I got an A with 75%.

If you really don't belong in college and you're just looking for an easy A, don't take this class. However, if you actually care about business and learning, you will not only grow as a student but also as a person from taking her class. Gillespie really teaches accounting and applies it. While the class is tough, you won't have any regrets.

This class made me really enjoy accounting--it's a lot of work, but when you get a good grade on one of her tests, it's truly rewarding. There are big packets for homework, which you basically have to teach yourself, but she clarifies anything in class, and is really helpful. Attend class regularly and will understand. Great experience.

This will not be an easy class. I would seriously suggest that only accounting majors take her because otherwise i don't think its worth the time and effort needed. When she isn't ranting on about something that bothers her, classes are very clear and productive, and she is nice @ office hours, slow to respond to emails. She's brilliant, you will REALLY learn accounting.

I took her for ACCT 201 & 202 and signed up for her 303 class next semester. That said, she is fantastic! I've never been happier with a teacher. If you want to be a better student then she is the ideal professor to help you do that. She will push you to do your best and to use your brain (and isn't that what college is all about??)

I graduated years ago and I'm posting this to tell you to take Gillespie. If you work in ACCT you need her classes to stay employed. It's a tough career, but her classes will carry you through. It is highly likely that there will be times in this class when you will hate her and/or you life... but you will never learn as much in a class as I did with Gillespie. LOTS of work, and it may make you miserable, but you will learn more than you thought possible.

Every University should have an instructor of this caliber. She teaches the material as it relates to the real world. Hard work is rewarded (expect 5-10 hours per week outside class). She cares about her students and is always available to them. The large number of former students who seek her advice is proof of her character and abilities.

She's a dura mater (Latin-"tough mother"). I honestly didn't like her class but i learn to love it after a while.she is tough but she will prepare you for the real world. Take her if your an accounting major. Lots of work but rewarding.

This is the most difficult class I have taken from Loyola, but one where I have learned the most. If you are willing to work extremely hard in order to learn how to survive in the real world, take this class. She's extremely intimidating, but willing to help and offers a lot of advice. Hi guys I'm taking 303 right now. It is really hard and you have to be on top of it from the start. It is my second time taking professor Gillespie. Class 202 was a walk in the park compare to this one. She will prepare you for real world 4 sure.

Do not take her if you are not serious about accounting. Gillespie will make you cry and feel like an epic failure. But she does so for your own benefit. You will learn to push yourself harder than you've done before and by the end of the class you will know the material back and forth. This class is no piece of cake but I highly recommend it.

She is a hard grader, but is not intimidating. She may press you in class, but is easy to communicate with. She doesn't have a lot of time, but tries to make herself available to questions.

In order to succeed in her class you NEED to MASTER your skills at reading the textbook and PowerPoint presentations of the chapters (especially the extra notes on each slide). Was a little nervous the first day of class...after a few weeks I am now enjoying it but it is a lot of work so far! Very helpful, lectures are good but sometimes she goes off on tangents and then has to rush to finish, leaving it up to you to fill in the blanks later. Overall a hard teacher but in a good way! A must for accounting majors.

If you want to major in accounting TAKE THIS CLASS. Wioll scare you the first day, but I SWEAR if you do the homework and put effort into the class you will be fine. I started off not doing well, went into office hours all the time and put in the effort and almost got at A. After taking this class you will be WAY MORE PREPARED for the real world.

This class was definitely a challenge, but worth every second. Professor Gillespie is brilliant. She is constantly raising the bar. If you are not an accounting major, consider not taking, but I am not one and greatly enjoyed the class. All the hard work is in the first few weeks, then everything gets easier. This was the hardest class I've ever taken. Her tirades can be nonsensical but if you bear through them you actually learn something. I hated the SUA it's a waste of time but Aleks is worth it. You see that material all the way to the final. If you have a strong work ethic, take Gillespie. If you're just trying get through the class then avoid her.

Professor Gillespie is great. She is tough greater but she lets you drop the lowest quiz and test. Attend every class, DO ALL THE READINGS and go to her office. She offers many opportunities to earn credits. Tough class but totally worth it.

Though most students are daunted by her tough appearance and uncouth expressions, she is not as nonchulant to students as she addresses herself to be. She is passionate about teaching. Prof. Gillespie is an amazing teacher. She has worked in the business and knows what she's doing. She tries to scare away people in the beginning of the class. The class is heavily waited towards the beginning with two massive projects. Once those are finished, the class lightens up immensely. She is tough, but a great professor.

In reality she's an amazing professor who likes to tell you how it is. Very strict but like she says, that's how it is the real world. 5 tests and 5 quizzes, lowest ones dropped, plus homework, online work and 6 memos. Lots of assignments but it's really just more points. Would recommend if you're serious about your education.

She's a good teacher when it comes to specific questions but I can't seem to understand her lectures at times. She gives a lot of assignments but some of the assignments are pretty useless. Her tests are really tough so expect to average 40-60% on tests so try to makeup your points elsewhere. Always read the book before going to class.

Gillespie gets a bad reputation, but she really is a great professor. She wants to challenge you and sometimes she has a temper, but she really gets to know her students. If you take her I have two words for you: OFFICE HOURS. If you have ANY questions, she will be there, even if it means coming in an hour before her scheduled time.

Anyone and I mean anyone whining here about how bad she is, probably loves to be handed things instead of ever working for something! Ms. Gillespie is THE most amazing professor you can take! Yes you will do work, yes exam averages are %50 - %60 (Before curve) but when you leave this class you will walk out a better accountant and student! #Best!

Love her! Like honestly do the work if you want to make it in the real world your going to have to not slack off and she gives you real world experience. Though I ended up with a C I thought she was a really great professor! The only reason I got a C was because I did not study. She is very reasonable and a great person in general!!

She's tough as nails and can be a real pain, but she cares for her students and wants them to be better. I got out with a B- and I had to work hard for it. You learn a lot, but there is a LOT of work. Stay on top of assignments and don't procrastinate, especially on the SUA. Don't get zeroes or she'll kick you out of the curve and you're done for.

She is a great professor, however, the exam is extremely challenging. Just finished the final, and I am sure that my grade will drop significantly. So sad cause I had studied for the final very hard but still fail the exam.

Professor Gillespie is one of the best professors a student could ask for. She is tough, she will make you do a lot of work and her average exam scores are around 60%. That being said, when you put in the effort, professor Gillespie will help, prompt and inspire you to attain the level of quality and excellence that employers are looking for.

I took Prof. Gillespie's class last semester, and now I am taking Audit 311. I finally understand why she asks all her students do the "words" homework assignment because it helps me to develop a habit of using a dictionary and understand those words that I do not truly understand. Professor Gillespie is one of the best professors that I have ever encountered in my studies. She is extremely knowledgeable on the subject matter, and teaches it in a way that any student could understand. The class structure is very specific, tests are not worth as much but she is going to give you a huge amount of work and I suggest you do it!

Youll learn so much in this class! Not just about accounting but about how you work best. Heavy workload can be overwhelming, but rack up as many points as possible and you wont have to worry about tests. Engaging lecturer, gets sidetracked often but thats part of the fun. Dont think about missing a class, youll be lost!

It took me a while to get used to her style of teaching but I learned a lot from her. You can tell she's really passionate about teaching. Be prepared for some tangent life lessons in class (they're valuable tho). Lots of homework to keep up with but it helps with learning the material, especially for the exams and quizzes

Class is very hard. But, I learned so much about work ethic & accounting from her class. She helps you to work toward knowledge, not just getting an A. You can have a 75% before the curve and still end up with an A. There is a lot of homework, but it is manageable and very helpful for class. Never skip class.

Take this class if you're up for a challenge and want to learn a lot! She is very passionate about teaching, which makes the class extremely easy. It's not an easy A but its definitely worth it. You get out of it what you put in.

I breezed through high school, just like many students. When I arrived to college, it was a brutal awakeneing, especially her class. If I had not taken Gillespie, I would not be able to succeed in college. My work ethic was garbage, but she not only taught me accounting, but also how to succeed. She will make you work, but it will be worth it.

She's actually not that bad, she'll be honest with you on your performance and if you belong somewhere else, she'll be upfront with you--otherwise, the material gave me a headache while differentiating 1st semester calculus and a brand new subject like accounting. Some in class needed motivation and she was there for that. Others, well, IMHO.

Prof. Gillespie really inspired me during and after class. She is a true mentor with tons of knowledge that you'll learn from. She cares about her student's thinking ability, integrity and work ethic, which helps you in the long run after join the work force. I landed a Big 4 job after graduation and that can't be happening without taking her class

TAKE HER!! Whoever said that she is a difficult professor does not want to work for a good grade. She will stay after class and answer any questions you might have. No matter how long it takes, she will make sure you understand the material. I highly recommend taking her. Even if you say the wrong answer, she will explain why it's wrong. She cares.

Great teacher, and available to help nearly all the time. She is a pain, and very difficult, but you learn a lot from her. She curves the grade at the end so anyone with an 85 and up, sometimes even lower than 85, will get an A. She talks a lot about stuff unrelated to the class, but she is a great teacher, fun to be with, but will make you crazy.

This class is difficult if you fall behind it is hard to catch up on the work. She is a good teacher and makes it so you understand the material uses even day examples. If you pay attention and take really good notes you can pass this class. It is a lot of work outside the classroom with the homework problems but she is easily accessible.

There is a lot amount of work and very stressful at times, especially with tests. Tough Grader + fall behind you're screwed unless you work hard. That said, she is actually preparing you for real world + work while brutal actually is applicable outside of class, unlikely as it may seem at times she does care about her students. Nice curve too

Ms. Gillespie is the toughest, yet greatest professor/teacher I have ever had. Her grading is amazing, over 1000 points graded, with most of them just a given if you attempt the homework. She gives a lot of homework, and is tough on her students, but it is clearly out of an extremely genuine want for her students to succeed. She is AMAZING!

Professor Gillespie assigns a lot of work but doing it helps you understand the class. She genuinely wants you to learn and pushes you to be a better student. Her class is very relevant and learning the material will benefit you in the long run. Definitely do the work as it pays off.

I love her, she is demanding and is a very confident person and asks alot of you but if you just do the work and keep up and work ahead if possible its an easy B if you just do the work even if you fall all the tests like i did, Participate in class so you dont have to do as much learning at home, i will 100% take her again

Be prepared for lots of assignments, but don't worry too much about tests since most of your grade will come from homework and similar assignments. Definitely a hard class, but one that makes you really learn accounting.

Professor Gillespie is a great teacher! She's a bit intimidating at first, and she has high standards for her students but once you get into the groove of what she wants and expects, it's not a bad class. She does take everything for a grade though, and she's a tough grader. Just know you really have to work hard for the grade you want.

Only people who don't like Gillespie are people who wont make it in the real world. Not everything is going to be handed to you stop being soft.

Professor Gillespie is an awesome professor! There are several assignments within her class, however, it helps you immensely to maximize your points at the end of your semester. She truly is a hilarious professor who cares for her students as well. Make sure to participate in class, do all of your assignments, and always go in for office hours!

She is a great teacher but very strict and only wants things done her own way. Do not try to test her!!!! She is smart and has a lot of experience in the field. You will know your stuff after you take her class but you have to get ready to WORK!

Prof. Gillespie's reputation is much worse than reality. Although she is often rude and occasionally offensive, she keeps her class moving and covers material. You will learn a lot in her course. There is a lot of tedious homework, but it will help your grade in the long run as it offsets the challenging tests. Expect a generous curve at the end.

I took Gillespie almost 3 years ago and when I say it was the best experience of my learning career thats an understatement. She might come across as hard and want to make your life difficult, but if you go to her office hours and genuinely want to work to at the material at hand it is 100% a better experience. She wants you to succeed, and most of the points in her class come from outside assignments rather than from exams. You'll learn a lot. Gives a lot of HW and two large solo projects at the beginning of the semester that are super time consuming. Pop quizzes so don't miss a class. Tests are SUPER hard, but aren't worth much in your final grade (most people fail every test). Connect smartbooks, hw, quizzes, + paper hw. Don't take tax and 303 at the same time!!!

By far the best professor I have had in my life. Ms.Gillespie is the kind of person that will not say what you want but what you need to hear. If you are an open minded person you will understand that everything she says to you is for your own good. She gives many opportunities to gain points. I struggled with the course material and had awful test grades, but there is a generous curve at the end for all students who had less than three assignments missed. Gillespie is the most unique professor I've had at Loyola. I took her only because I needed my 201 credit but it was an amazing class. She's the only professor I've had where she doesn't coddle you and makes sure you're actually prepared for the "real world." She has a unique style, but you'll be amazing at accounting. Just be prepared for WORK.

LOVE LOVE LOVE! Her class is not easy, but she has so many small assignments that can help you out (10pts for evaluations, etc). It was one of the only classes I felt I learned. She does not allow tech but it helped me stay engaged. Tests did not weigh heavily. If you actually try, you are bound to learn & do well.

You might hate Gillespie at first but she slowly grows on you. The only way to receive an A is to take detailed notes, read each chapter well, and attend almost every class. No slacking. Class has more than 1000 points you can earn so exams are a small part of your grade. She drops your lowest quiz + exam grade! Take her and challenge yourself!

Honestly one of the best professors I've had at Loyola. Her teaching style is a little different but once you get used to it she's pretty fun. I learned a lot and was very entertained during her class.

At first, she is rude and abrasive, she does this on purpose to weed out all those who quit when things get tough. After the 2nd week, she becomes an absolute hoot and her lectures, when not on tangents are great. She creates a very solid basis for ACCT 202/ 202H.

She's a hardheaded professor,not in a bad way. She'll teach you to think for yourself rather than from a book. I recommend taking her class as long as your other classes are not demanding. You will definitely need to priotize this class due to the amount of work given. However, her tests weight little and her overall grade curve is very generous.

She is tough and strict but easily the best prof here at Loyola. From day 1 she tells you how it is and how to do well in her class. She will turn you into a disciplined student. You can def take this class with an easier prof but you would miss out on her lectures which are actually the best ive ever had. She is worth it even though she is hard.

LISA GILLESPIE IS MY QUEEN!! Class is hard af but as long as you do the work you will pass no problem. Failed every exam and a few HW assignments but still ended with a B+ because of her grading system. She makes you into the best possible student who wont slack. Loved her real world teaching style. She is very passionate about many things. If you get offended by her then you have thin skin. Grow up. Her class demands more than others. Took her 1st semester of my freshman year and am much more prepared for the rest of college because of it. Do the assignments and study a bit for the exams, you will BARE MINIMUM pass! Ms. Gillespie has been my favorite teacher at Loyola so far, and even as a freshman, I completely believe that you won't find a more dedicated, insightful, and thought-provoking teacher. Especially for an accounting professor, you wouldn't expect that much passion for helping other students genuinely learn. The class is 100% worth the work.

I would go to war for her. She is so smart and dedicated to her students. I've never seen a person so excited for other people to learn. She encourages questions and will change her approach if it means more students will learn. A lot of assignments, but they're very manageable and makes getting an A easy if you put in the effort. She is AMAZING!

Prof. Gillespie seems scary at first but get past her rant-like lectures the first week and you'll find that she deeply cares about her students and values your learning. Her class is no piece of cake in terms of work load but try your best and she will notice. And I've found her rants to be a nice break from the accounting in lecture lol.

Gillespie is a great professor to have if you are an accounting major. She is a wonderful accounting professor, but the amount of work she gives is no joke. Attendance is not mandatory but she gives pop quizzes and goes over multiple things at once so you don't wanna miss class. A lot of work, but for accounting majors, take her for sure.

Loved her! She goes on rants, but it takes your mind off the accounting... She taught me lots of things about life too. She is difficult, but even if you fail all the exams and do the homework you will pass because of her curve!!!

Professor Gillespie is the reason I chose accounting. As long as you show up to class and do the homework, you will pass the class. The class is a lot of points, so you can fail an exam and still do well. She presents the information in a very digestible way. She is really awesome, just give it a chance.

Amazing professor but kind of unstable. You must format all your work by her terms, no exceptions! Even if you don't staple your homework together, she will take 5 points off. You're forced to learn and study in this class, she is a great professor and wants you to get crap done and to do it right. You cannot be lazy in this class, good class.

Tons of hw, but it's the majority of your grade. All hw is completion so turn it in, but miss 3 hws and she subtracts 50 pts from your grade. Also, this is the most participation heavy class at Loyola, so don't take if you're shy. Read the syllabus, she's a stickler about rules. She is the best teacher I've had, I've learned so much in 4 months.

When she mentions, "1 hour of lecture, 3 hours of studying," she really means it. She is very strict, but very nice when you really get to know her. Homework is a completion grade; exams are very challenging. The amount of homework is a ton compared to other classes, but it is like 70% of your grade.She gives out exam corrections as one assignment.

She is a tough grader and a teacher but there is meaning to what she is say and teaches and when I began to see that when I got my next internship is changed my my opinion on her. Because of her I was able to land my next internship this summer. Lastly, I failed just about every exam so don't be afraid of here test because she the curves it.

idc what any of the other reviews say gillespie is my queen. did I do well on every exam? definitely not!! but I learned A TON! I've learned more in her class than all of my other courses combined. She is tough but do your work and try and you'll get AT LEAST a B. She's hilarious and is hard on you in a way that keeps you wanting to learn more.

Honestly she is a really good professor. There is a lot of homework and outside work but if you complete all of it, it will out ways the exams. The exams are worth so little. You get 50 extra points if you don't have any 0 in her class. Attendance is important to do well in her class. She may be a tough professor but you learn a lot.

Gillespie knows her stuff. She clearly does have a passion for her work and to an extent, I understand her class system. However, if I have homework, 90% of it is for this class. If you're in honors, you do a lot of busywork assignments. I will say, if you ACTUALLY do all the homework and pay attention, you will for sure pass.
