Wow!! The BEST engish prof, and overall prof that i have ever had! She is sooo helpful, you never leave her class or office feeling confused. She is great through email as well, she sends helpful responses. She truly wants her students to do well, and gives them every chance to! She's also REALLY funny!! 5 stars!!!

great prof, but hard marker. class average was 64... But if you work HARD and gets lots of extra help, you can probably get by with at least B

She is actually one of those profs. that can teach and knows her stuff. I've never had a better English prof. Just take her class and see for yourself...oh she likes it if you argue with her (in a nice way) and make sure you comment a lot on the readings.

Lisa is an awesome first year teacher- she is friendly and informative and has obviously good intentions. You can tell she loves to teach and is always willing to give up some of her time to help her students.

Dr. G is by far the most amazing prof I've come across so far at UBC. She is truly passionate about teaching, and it is very evident how much she cares about her students. VERY helpful, consistently available, and funny in a goofy way, she makes the course interesting and engaging for everyone. A professor that should not be missed!

Lisa Grekul is by far the best English Professor at UBCO. She is passionate, brilliant and really knows what she is doing. She is highly organized yet still brings humour, creativity and a new way of thinking to class. Excellent choice of texts also! -- she is what you would want in a professor. Lisa is passionate about the subject matter, has a brilliant mind and overall is a wonderful person. She is not an easy marker. That said, she is extremely approachable and very easy to talk to, so if you are ever stuck she will be more than happy to help you out. Any class with Lisa is a treat :)

Wow!!! Not only is Dr. Grekul the most fabulous English prof at UBCO, she is the best professor I have had thus far at this university. Lisa is brilliant, funny, and charming. She sets a high standard, and you will come out of her class a better student and writer! A real gem of a prof!!!

Truly amazing professor-the best I have had in my four years of university by far. Her lectures are so interesting that I actaully was excited to go to this class. She is a very fair marker, as long as you are willing to work hard and get extra help if you need it you will get an A! Lisa is brilliant, funny, clear and interesting. Highly recommend!

Great teacher, she makes the lectures as good as she can with the content. The books you have to read are a bit dry... make sure you read them and know how to write an essay because essays are 55% of your final mark. (there is two of them). Make sure you go to lecture because she gives hints for whats on the final.

Fantastic prof! Makes the course come alive and is quite helpful. She really has a passion for what she does. Challenging but fair.

Lisa is a great lecturer, really engaging and keeps the material interesting. Her quizzes are easy and she really tries to hep students. Hard marking on the midterms, but good constructive feedback.

love her, she has such a funny personality and is always happy!! she is very clear and you know what she expects. she is a little bit bad at getting through all her notes in lecture but she is still really awesome!! If you go to class she will usually drop lots of hints about the final and about how to approach her essay topics!! take her class!

I honestly took this class to fill my english requirements for my B.A degree despite my hatred for english. However, Lisa is AMAZING! She is so funny and she chooses great books. She not only made me like English, it is now my minor thanks to her! She is incredible, I will take every class I can with her!

Probably one of the best English teachers I've ever had. Being a science student I'm not very good at English and honestly find the subject boring, but this class changed my opinion. Lisa is a great teacher, some what of a hard marker but she understands a lot of her students aren't English majors. She makes going to class fun

I LOVE Lisa! She is so funny and engaging, and really cares about her students. I also loved the books we read, and the welcoming atmosphere she creates in a classroom. That being said, get ready to work damn hard for a good grade. I'm usually an AA- student, I'll be walking out of her class with a B. Still worth it though, take her classes!

Lectures aren't too interesting, she does tend to ramble a lot and dwells on background information of books more than she actually teaches the content in the books. Interesting variety of books but I did well without even reading any, just pay attention in tutorials, read sparksnotes, figure stuff out yourself.

Lisa gives hilarious lectures and isn't afraid to joke at herself to keep students interested. You will read a 300 page book every two weeks, and Sparknotes doesn't exist for these titles. She's a lovely person and is willing to jump over the moon for you if you ask her for help. Would take a class with her again 100%.

Lisa is great, and a pleasure to listen to! She is so funny, and keeps the class engaged. Course texts were diverse, with only one really long novel. Very kind and obviously knowledgeable. I plan on taking more classes with her in the future!

Lisa is hands down the best prof I've ever had. I failed 1st yr English last year because it's my worst subject and I got an A in her class. She makes you actually enjoy what English has to offer. She chose a wonderful and interesting selection of books which makes writing essays on them so much more interesting. TAKE HER CLASS IF YOU CAN

She is amazing! I don't enjoy english but Lisa is such a great prof. She's super helpful, kind, and nice. There was lots of reading to do but it is manageable. Final exam was very easy and if you attend class and listen/take notes of what she says you can have very good points for all your essays. Definitely take her course if you can!

Not scary in my opinion. Yes you have to work. A lot of reading !! She'll call you out if your not being serious. Stay off your phone, pay attention. Actually she really cares and is hilarious in a nerdy way.

Amazing topics. She's so animated throughout the whole lecture, and really makes you pay attention without getting sleepy or bored or even zoning off. She's super passionate and super friendly!

Grekul is the best ENG prof I've had in years. She's hilarious and cares about her students a lot. I definitely recommend taking her course if you can even if the content seems dull she makes it 10x more interesting! Make sure to attend class and read the texts to get the mark though. She's a fair but hard marker.

Lisa is so great, she makes each English class very interesting and engaging. If you attend class and your tutorials you will do well in the class and on the final. The TA's were tough markers though.

If you get the chance, take her lectures. She cares about her students and seems like she enjoys teaching.

Dr. Grekul has wonderful lectures that make attending class enjoyable and the texts that we studied were interesting and accessible. Only complaint is that your grade relies on very few components but if you have questions she will be there to help you out.

I love Lisa, she is funny and engaging in lectures and really got me listening. I highly recommend her. I actually saw her talk at an event and did everything in my power to take a class with her because she was so good on stage.

Very enjoyable class. Obviously there is reading the required texts (English class, duh), but all of it is quite short and easy to get through. Lisa is very caring and genuinely want her students to pass. Make sure to go to all lectures, especially before exams as she will often drop BIG hints on what to expect. Great class!

I don't love English, but Lisa is an amazing prof! She made all lectures so interesting and exciting- I loved waking up to go to her classes! She loves using out-of-the-ordinary texts to study and she made class great. Essays are not the easiest, which is basically what you are graded on besides tutorial participation. She's great though!

Such an amazing prof. Really cares about her students and making sure they succeed. She really understands what it's like to be a student and plans the reading and assignments around that. Dr. Grekul's English class was interesting and engaging. The texts we were assigned were thought provoking and the essay assignments were not too difficult. As for the final, the essay prompts were not too surprising and she gave a lot of assistance to prepare for it. Overall, a riveting class even if you need it as a degree requirement.

Lisa is a phenomenal prof! I personally hate any form or type of English class and her class was by far one of my favourites. The books we had to read are super interesting and she always tries to be engaging in lecture. The only thing I did not like about the course was the tutorial as I thought it was irrelevant and pretty boring.

Lisa is an amazing prof! She seems to absolutely love what she does and if you go to her office hours during the term, she gives quality feedback on your essay/format and how to improve it before it's due. Lecture participation is a must and there are readings outside of class but she gives plenty of time. It is discussed in depth in lecture.

Honestly Lisa gave 3 assignment... ya 3, that's all. Honestly a fairly relaxing class. Lisa is an absolute gem though. She is funny and a truly entertaining. I would go to all her classes just because of how much fun it was listening to her.

At first, I was skeptical about how interesting Canadian Literature would be, but the professor completely converted me. The lectures and content were very fun and engaging. The professor's experience and compassion for students combine to make it a memorable learning experience. I loved this course and the professor and you will too!

Lisa's such a fun instructor and was the perfect personality for a class on the later side. Other reviews comment on the unstructured feel of the course, but I personally found that if you attend lecture + discussion the course is engaging and straightforward. If you need extra help with things like essay writing Lisa and your TA are there to help.

Lisa is a very divisive prof, but I love her. She is very passionate about her field and is here to teach, and not to do research. Her lecture style is very chaotic, which was great for a 2-hour 6:30 pm lecture. The course was easier than I was expecting as it was essentially just an intro to literary theory and essay writing.

The class is relatively straightforward and the readings she chooses are delightful and diverse. The lectures are both informative and entertaining, which makes them a great way to end a late-night Monday class. You can tell she really does care for her students' success and is approachable.

I loved Dr. Grekul! She is definitely a wake-up call from high school English grading, although she allows appeals. She does get sidetracked occasionally into random stories from her life, but that always kept me awake. She is incredibly caring of her students and understands if they need extensions or help with their work. Would take again!

Great, hilarious, caring prof. Was an enjoying class with lots of discussion. Only issue was few graded things, and you didn't see marks on canvas until after the exam so you have to calculate it yourself. Interesting books

was a great class! Lisa is so unhinged in such a good way, her theatrics kept my showing up and listening. quizzes are used to boost grade, she facilitates lots of in class discussion on material. also very good texts, really enjoyed them.

Absolutely fantastic professor! She's definitely not the easiest grader, but she's fair, and I learned so much from her. Her lectures could go off on tangents sometimes, but they were always engaging, and she packed so much into each lecture that the occasional tangents were always a welcome break from the heavy subjects we were discussing. 10/10!
