very good teacher makes topics very interesting. has lots of stories related to topics. very patient and willing to help you
Makes a tough class fun and interesting. The kind of teacher you wish everyone would be.
This is a tough class but she is very clear about what is important. 4 tests, lots of quizzes and in class assignments. Very easy to talk to.
This professor is an excellent one (class atmosphere is always fun), especially for this tough subject; however, be careful not to slack off bc it goes very fast! It's a marathon from start to end in order to make the grades. Mess around and you'll end up with a D or F easily.
This is my favorite teacher so far in my college career. I love her class and I love her teaching style. She is an absolutely cool and fun professor. Made class fun and easy to understand. I would recommend to anyone who wants to take AP or physiology
interesting and infomative lectures
Dr. Hays was a great instructor. She made the class fun and interesting. She made all the information applicable to real life, esp to nursing/med students. I recieved an A in this class, not only because I worked hard, but because of the awesome teacher who taught me well.
She is such a nice instructor, she always wants to make sure that you fully understand, her notes you just print which is great, you just need to invest a lot of study time, there's a lot to learn
Se is a great teacher I will owe my nursing career to her
I loved her, she was the best teacher ever, really fair and knows her stuff, plus she is friendly.
Awesome teacher!!! Applies great techniques for learning and makes class challenging.
extremely fun teacher! Grading is also fair, easy to get a B if you study a little. Much better to take here at EVC than at SJSU. I actually learned something about physio with Dr. Days. SHes great! Take her you wont be sorry! Shes also very funny and silly, kind of like a big dork! Lol! Very easy to get along with!
she is a great teacher the class is hard but she totally helps u when u need it
great teacher so far! great first impression, highly recommend if you are a nursing major. take this class at evergreen and not at sjsu. i took the teacher at sjsu twice and failed. teacher is a gem. take her!
I prefer the teacher at sjcc. Mrs. Hays' tests are hard.
OMG I cant believe someone said dont take her cause its her tests are hard HELLO its a hard class and if u are going to be a nurse u better know it... If u take the easy way out u going to be the WORSE NURSE EVER I wouldnt want u to be my nurse if u dont get how the body works
dr. hays is awesome! i love her class. she makes the lectures more entertaining with her side stories, which really help you understand the concepts more. gives you a study sheet to help you prepare for the exams and tells you when quizzes are. great teacher!
Excellent teacher. Hard subject and Hard Class, but Dr. Hays was very organized and kept the lectures/labs interesting. Will learn a lot if you take her class. Do not fall behind in class, will be hard to catch up later.
Don't miss a single class because she breaks everything down to just what you need to know for the exam. Only need text book for reading quiz. Exams are on lecture and labs only. She's VERY helpful. That's straight to the point.
Dr. Hays' style is fun and fast-paced and straight to the point. Her organized lectures and lab activities create a structured, you-know-what-to-expect atmosphere. Her reading quizzes are tricky but it helps you study for exams that cover a LOT of information. She doesn't waste time and always open to questions and concerns. Fun class!
Out of all the instructors I've had at EVC, Hays is the professor I have the utmost respect for. She has a penchant (gift) for weeding out all the gossip girls & students who half-heartedly claim they want to be nurses. People who gripe about how her class is hard, or that she grades tough--wake up: Physiology is a hard subject. Pick up better study habits.
Dr. hays is very very organized and helpful. She is little strict for attendance. There are no surprise tests. If you do what she asks you to do, U will be fine. exams r from lectures and slides. you do not need the book, well only for the quizzes. She tries to make a fun class. best teacher i had so far...
Awesome......Very fair...
Dr. Hays gives excellent lectures that are funny and interesting. She is straight to the point and her lecture slide notes help with the exams. Very respectable and nice instructor to boot.
Okay, lets be honest, Physiology requires a lot of studying and is not necessarily an easy subject for most; that being said, Dr. Hays makes the class as easy as it can be. She is very clear as to what is required and she has a great sense of humor which makes the class go by faster. Just make sure to take notes (she lets you print out the slides)
very difficult..easier at sjcc. lots of stuying, pop quizzs
She makes physiology class fun and interesting. I love her online lectures with study tips, which i use them ever since. She explains clearly and straight to the point, especially defines the root word, which makes it easy to remember. For example, she would say cytosol is a combination of cyto= cell and sol= solution. Awesome teacher! higly recom.
Doesn't believe in extra credit!!! There are no assigmnents to help boost your grade. Quizzes almost every week! Tests are hard! Brags about being evil! wtf. Also puts things on test she doesn't put on study guide.
Dr.Hays makes things simple, easy to study, understand, & remember. She is one of the best professors I've ever had among both SJSU and EVC. Textbook is needed for reference and quizzes only. I never touched the book. I just study from her lecture notes and lab materials and get average 4/6 on the quizzes. Highly recommend her if you want to learn.
This is a good class but Professor Hays is VERY condescending to her students. During lectures, she would compare her A students versus her B students as if there is something wrong with B students. She is VERY ANAL and come across rude
ONLINE TELECOURSE CLASS meets twice a month. Only once is mandatory for exams. Tests questions come straight from the review book. Only 3 HW assignments are due and she writes powerpoints to help us answer the questons. I LOVE OCEANOGRAPHY, but it is a hard subject. I studied hard and still got a C.
Very straightforward with the homework and tests. All the information you need are on the slides on her website. MANDATORY class meetings to turn in hw and take tests. Do not miss it, she goes over everything you need for the tests also. Easy class, make sure to study and use the flashcard.
i wish there were extra credit assignments given. You have to COMPLETE doing the homework or else you will lose fair amount of grades. midterms and final exam were still hard even though you have the flash cards.
Never take her if you are planning to apply for nursing! 75% of her students have a C for her class. She will try to persuade you to stay in her class but what's the point when you will end up retaking the class somewhere else after you found out a 2.00 won't get you anywhere? I should have listen when other people told me not to take her!
Dr. Hayes is a good teacher. Take the class seriously from day one, it is very difficult to improve the grade as material gets very hard as the semester moves on. She talks very fast during lecture, so a sound recorder comes in handy.
For Physiology, reading from the very 1st day is imperative. To succeed you MUST read before lecture & after lecture. Quizzes based strictly off textbook. Tests based strictly on lecture slides (so take GOOD notes). Better to take Chen for lab as opposed to Hayes. Hayes is speedy when talking, but Chen has the right tempo for everyone to understand
Perky. Strict on hw. It's interesting stuff to learn. But you will feel limited if you are taking 12 units. If you have the time to memorize words, study for the quizes (every other week) and can spend 2 hrs or more on homeworks. She makes you print out like 11pg of notes that you have to take to class. A lot of words/terms to memorize. It's tough.
She was awesome. I took Ocean 10 with her online and she was very helpful. All of my emails/questions got responded first thing in the morning around 8am. The tests are straightforward but you have to know the material. You can't flip through the book as taking the test.
Very informative class. You have to watch videos, her lecture online, read textbook, and her notes in order to keep up. She lays out what is expected of you at the beginning of the semester. Follow along with syllabus and you will get an A.
Physio is a really hard class but Dr.Hays does her best to make it easy to understand and fun. She explains concepts very clearly and uses funny examples to help you remember. Don't procrastinate! There is a lot of material to learn for this class!
Class participation gets you brownie points and personal acknowledgement. Be careful of the comments you make while repeating her lecture it can get confusing? Half the class will depend on whether you can communicate about the lecture with you classmates. Pretty good instructor.
I took the accelerated physio course last summer. Hays taught the online lecture and Chen (she's great!) taught the lab. If you take this accelerated summer course then be prepared to workstudy like crazy. We had weekly required online postings, lab or lecture quizzestests nearly every day. Hays answers your questions by asking you a question.
Regarding the HYBRID class (online lectures & meet once a week). This class does involve more "self-teaching" but Dr. Hays online powerpoints/lectures are very easy to follow along. Weekly pre-lab quizzes, 4 exams, in-class labs (classwork) & at-home labs (hw), mandatory 2 discussion posts per week online. STUDY THE LECTURE NOTES &LABS, you'll pass
currently taking her physio class at EVC & i must say, most days i do feel a bit overwhelmed on all the quizs and reading material however i have learned more with her and enjoyed her lectures more then any other professor in college even given the complex material! she keeps it real and gets the class involved in discussions (outside news etc).
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT AN EASY A! Dr. Hays is a good professor but she does not make physiology an easy subject to learn. The lecture and lab are both material heavy. I would only recommend taking this class alone or with one other class concurrently. There is a ton of material to learn and it is difficult to keep up with having other classes and a job. Dr. Hays stresses that bio72 needs to be the number 1 priority when taking her class and she's right because it's hard to learn it with having other life distractions. It's very possible to get an A in her class but it's not easy at all. She has 4 exams, weekly lab hw, and weekly reading quizzes (which usually come from the slides for that day). If you screw up on an exam it is very hard to raise your grade back up. There is no extra credit so you must work hard from the get go. Dr. Hays is a good person and wants you to succeed, but this class really pushes you to work hard and she will not make it easy for you.
If you want to take an easy class take oceanography. I recommend during the summer but it's still an easy class for the semester system. Six exams and lots of HW but if you do the HW this will guarantee a passing grade. Exams are based on the slide shows and book is not necessary unless you want to overachieve. Over all fun easy class.
Take Hays! It's clear she's an experienced professor with a good grasp on physio concepts. She has fun examples that make it easy to learn and will help you along the way. Lectures are online so you can watch them as much as you want. Just read, watch lectures, and be in class for labs and you'll be fine.
this online class was my favorite this semester! She has great lectures, notes, and videos. If you do the work you will pass, she made this class fun
Dr. Hays was an amazing professor, my only regret was that I was not able to take an in person class with her because I know she would have made class fun. She does give homework on each chapter that can take some time, but it helps to prepare for the tests. Her online class was very organized and tests were multiple choice. Take her class!!
I took Dr. Hays hybrid summer class last year. This class is a challenge, but I learned a lot. She makes class fun and her lectures are easy to comprehend. Currently, I am in the nursing program and thought about Dr. Hays. This class has helped me understand physiology! She is caring and approachable. One of the best professors I ever had!
Former student for her online physio class. She's a great teacher, very informative, and explains the content easily enough for a dummy like me to understand. An incredibly challenging class but incredibly useful if you're future is the medical career. I own my physio knowledge to Dr. Hays.
I really liked this class and I learned a lot! Lisa is very professional and highly educated. To pass her class with a good grade, effort must be put in and in the class I took, she provided a study guide and allowed an index card "cheat sheet" which I took total advantage of. There are quizzes but no surprise, plus she drops the worst 3 of them.
Took hybrid class. 100% of the material on exams was directly from her lectures, but the last midterm, i stopped reading the book entirely and focused on her lecture notes. Memorize every single word, process, and in the exact order. You'll do fine if you do that.
Horrible! I got a B in her class but the 30% who got A's in the class were asked to write a good review on her. However, 70% of the class that didn't receive A's were left with oh well try harder ! You ask her question her response is "What do you think?" I'm asking you! I ended up with a B. My last Physio teacher I received an A. She was terrible!
I didnt actually have her as a professor or attend this college. But she bought me and my buddies drinks one night, so she is the best professor I ever met
Dr. Hay's is amazing! Loved this class, but forsure you can't be lazy. You can just rely on her notes/lectures and you'll do well, also do the homework. She's really caring and wants all of you to succeed. There is a test each module, two discussion post and a hw assignment. All but one exam is online, one is on campus.
best teacher Ive ever had! I got a b in anatomy previously and was considering giving up on applying for nursing before I took her class. Her class changed my mind. failed 1st couple of quizzes so went to talk to her and she helped me with studying techniques. She gives you everything you need to succeed but teaches you to work hard for that A. :)
I'll miss Dr. Hays' organized teaching style. Doable A. Lecture: don't skip; ask questions to clarify any confusion from lecture notes. Exams: no book needed; study her lecture notes & practice writing out short answer questions. Quizzes: read book, take notes, and study your notes (reading is not enough). Don't procrastinate; study as you go.
Honestly, if you want to take this class I would not recommend it online. There is a lot of reading. You have to do 4 lessons of homework like every week with reading, 30-minute videos for each lesson, plus two forum post. The quizzes are pretty hard consist of 50 questions with 50 minutes to take it. No late homework what so ever.
No way to bring your score up. She gives a natural 2% bump but because the combined lab and lecture exam it doesnt help anyways. Office hours are a waste of time. You dont learn, its all memorization.
By far my most favorite bio class and bio teacher!!! She is the greatest. All the lectures are videos! Easy class to pass.
She's an amazing lecturer & explains things in a way that it clicks easily. Her hybrid class was so enjoyable & very well organized. I loved going into lab because it was seriously fun to me. I enjoyed every bit of this class. She really does care for her students, but you have to put the work in yourself. Don't waste time/money on the textbook.
Very funny and good teacher. Don't get the textbook unless you have time to do a lot of reading/are in her normal class. I just focused on understanding and memorizing her lectures (they're recorded on her website for the hybrid class). The lab manual is necessary though. Make sure you read that one very well b/c her quizzes are very detailed.
It's a tough subject, but Dr. Hays teaches it so well. I was very prepared for the TEAS exam because of her.
Dr. Hays is an AMAZING teacher! She clearly explains things and if you don't understand she will gladly help you. Lectures are hybrid but the advantage of that is you can re-watch them many times . She makes learning Physio fun and easy! She is definitely one of the BEST professors I have taken! Her study guide helps so much on the tests!
I had Dr. Hays for an online class and she would always send reminders about assignments. They weren't so much that you felt annoyed by it, but it was there perfect amount. She is every clear on grading and what she expects. She always positive gives feedback on her assignments
Taking Oceanography with Dr. Hays was an amazing experience. She gave a lot of feedback and tons of reminders about homework and exams. This class isn't one of those classes where you can just breeze through and not do anything an get an A. You have to at least put in some effort to get a good grade in the class, it's nothing too hard. Easy Exams.
The class was very organized and very clear. She has her own website where you can view the lectures which include her own video recordings, a video that relates to the module, and the homework. You don't need the textbook. She curves her grading scale so no extra cred. There were 6 exams, 50mc questions each and 1 paper due at the end of the sem.
Took her hybrid class. She provides great lecture videos, and gives a decent amount of hw (good way to get points). She curves the overall grade for the class, so no EC. Before every exam she'll go over the study guide with you, so you'll have a good idea of what to expect. She made lectures and labs fun, loved her class.
Oceanography with Dr. Hays is a wonderful class! This was an online class so as long as you do the work, you'll get an A. She does not accept late work, so stay on schedule. I didn't realize how much I would learn in this class about the Earth, not just the ocean. Definitely one of my favorite classes at EVC!
I took her for this Spring 2021 semester and let me tell you. I really enjoyed her class and lecture videos. Homework is not too bad and you have 5 exams total as well as one paper due at the end of the semester. Would take her again! Just do you work and study so that you can get an A!
Shes not a bad teacher but shes definitely not the best. Lecture are prerecord so even if she says that a topic will be in the exam probably it wont. She take all the exam from online so she doesnt ask question in her own way like she says she will. There is a lot of assignments but none extra credit.
Professor Hays is such an amazing teacher, she is so caring and genuinely cares about you getting good grade, she explains everything very well and makes everything relatable.
She gives clear instructions on what she wants in discussions, homework, and research paper. Follow these and you will do fine. The exams are mostly based on her lectures, but a few questions may not be. I enjoyed learning more about plants so this is one of the easier life sciences to take. She is accessible, friendly, and gives reminders.
omg literally best teacher eva!!! just watch the lectures and you'll be fine. she is so inspirational she inspired me to adopt so many plants I love her
Took her because I needed a science without lab. I was scared because I heard she gives a lot of homework but really, I thought the hw load was moderate. She gives you enough time in between. I took her for the 6 week course and we had exams every week. Exams were based on material in her lectures, all resources are available for you to succeed!
For my last semester at EVC, I took oceanography class for the fast paced 6 weeks. You will have a total of 6 exams (open book), 6 hw lectures, and 6 discussions. Each exam has 50 questions , 50 minutes and multiple choice!! For the final, you will have a research paper but overall, if you study the lecture notes and do the work you will be fine!!
Dr. Hays is a legend, I do not regret taking her class, I came out learning general things that your regular high school biology class misses on plants. She has exams due every 2 weeks based on four lectures. Time yourself and you will be fine: she is also funny sometimes in her lectures, catches you off guard.
One of the highest rated professors at EVC for a reason, Dr. Hays is awesome. If she is teaching a course, take it, you won't regret it.
lectures are organized and useful, assignments given 2 weeks before deadline, has us interact with peers. however, her grading is STRICT & TOUGH. turnitin similarity needs to be
Dr. Hays is a good professor with a sense of humor. Pace yourself as if you were taking the class in person (do two lectures a week, homework and exams are biweekly). She is very organized, communicative, and straightforward. Take notes based on the lecture, follow instructions exactly as stated, and a good grade is practically guaranteed.
Homework is very tedious, but very straight forward. She does not give out extra credit but if you complete the homework (with effort) you wont need it. She loves what she teaches, if i could i would take her again.
She was a very good professor! At the beginning of the course if you take her online, she will have you do a small zoom meeting with just so she can meet you and get to know you a bit. Her work is manageable and she has prerecorded lectures and all the homework answers are in her lectures.
Professor lecture was well elaborated, very clear and interesting topics.
