very easy to understand and writes everything on the board
Challenging, but helpful. Stickler when it comes to the syllabus, which is a good thing. Very clear and thorough. Take a course with her if you're a math major and need to learn the stuff, or just if you care.
Demanding but fair with soothing voice
Awsome teacher! Sad that I probably will not have her again. Highly recommended - she really gets you to learn the material -but very goos notes and awsome cookies!!
great professor
good teacher. demanding but work reflects tests and quizzes. very clear with material and makes good cookies
She was a great teacher that was always willing to help you before and after class. Everything was clear and she really got to know her students. If you want to learn something, take a class with her.
Take her if you can. Believe me she's one of the best Math professors in the department and I've gone through many of them. Goofy but highly intelligent also.
Very demanding teacher so if you are not very good then don't try to take her. At this point in semester she has lost 1/2 of the class. If she gives you a sample test multiply it times 2 for what the real test will be like. Otherwise she teaches very effectively.
Very demanding with the homework, so if you're not a homework person don't take her. Other than that She's a great teacher, makes sure you know how to do everything!
incredible, highly intelligent, keeps class mood light with jokes. always willing to give extra help. assigns a lot of hw and is checked for completion. quiz every friday and tests are like quizzes. excellent professor! very down to earth. all notes written out clearly on board, very effective
She gives alot of homework. She is also very picky on the maple projects. If she gives you a sample test to study don't believe it represents the one you will get, it will be harder. However, she is very good at teaching the subject so if you want to go on to calc 2 she would be a good choice.
She tends to be picky so see her if you see that she has marked your work down for little picky stuff. She may change the grade if you talk to her. She was also overheard talking about the class in a very negative way and it got around to the rest of the class although I'm not sure she ever realized it. Needs to control things like that.
Shes one of the best teachers ive ever had, highly intellegent, not on the same level as her students, and shes tough

Really good professor. Does give homework all the time so if you dont like to do homework, this might not be the class for you. She grades leniently. She is also very caring and helful in passing the class. Overall a really good professr to take!
This professor is the best!
Awesome!!! She is of the best in the dept. Very willing to help you out. She is very fair but not easy...you are expected to work for your grade. i def. reccomend her
excellent professor. I had her for 2 semesters and was the best math professor i have had!! Very caring and does not like to see anyone fail. Would definatly recommend her. She does give alot of work but it pays off in the end!!!
Best Professor EVER!! highly recommend her classes. she is very helpful!!!
i don't even need to take this class but i'm taking it with her cuz she's the best
Best prof. ever! Very fair and extremely helpful. She would get to class two hours early on fridays just to help students
What is with all of the positive comments? I have never had a professor who I tell her "I don't understand this" and she says "oh that sucks" ! This lady is horrible, I don't reccomend her at all and the book did not help AT ALL.
Best Math Professor I've had! I'm horrible at math but she teaches in a way that makes math easy. She goes over problems until you get them. As long as you put a little effort in, you're sure to do good in her class. Would absolutely take her again! Highly recommended!
Not that great. She expects you to already know everything and doesn't teach. I'm a math major and have a 3.8 GPA for math and am doing awful in this class. The homework is endless and I study for hours just to get a low grade on an exam....Get out if you can!
Dr. Humphreys is very fair. Those who rate her negatively just don't do the work required and get upset when they do badly. She is always available for help if needed. All you have to do is ask. This isn't highschool any more. When an assignment is given, make sure to read the instructions carefully because they do matter in her classes!
She is this amazing teacher who really enjoys what she's doing and she is doing it well. If you want a career in math, take her.
She is hands down the best math professor I have ever had. She will spend extra time going over the material just to make sure everybody understands. She teaches you the content while making connections to real-life. I am a math major but I would highly recommend this professor to anybody.
This class was a below my level, so my perspective may be skewed on easiness. However, she was an excellent teacher: good explanations and clarity. The homework is a blessing in disguise: do it and pay attention during the review of it and you'll have learned everything you need.
She is fair. Math itself is hard so she tries to make all students understand. I suggest you never miss class because everyday you learn something new. She gives three major tests and a few quizzes.
Amazing teacher: enthusiastic, very well prepared, very helpful and very cool overall. The exams are fair, as her grading. She's an old school teacher, passionate about math and very helpful. She is also a very good hearted person.
Awesome Proff! Covers all needed material and makes it understandable to all. If you put in the effort, shell do her part on teaching you what you need to know. She is very reasonable and her teaching style is very effective. I enjoyed coming to class every time!!
Professor Humphreys is my favorite professor. This is the third class of hers that I have taken and I took the last one just because she was taking it I did not need it for my major. She gives a lot of work but that's to prepare you for her tests. The homework is her way of making you study.
WOW what an amazing professor...the material is soooo hard, extremely challenging and she makes it as easy to assimilate as possible..great lady that will bend over backwards to help... by far one of my favorites in the school and i dont even like math
Had her for Calculus over the summer. Very intense class for the summer session. She gives a TON of homework, but it is necessary to truly understand the concepts. Very helpful during office hours and will do everything to help you pass. Take this professor, but be prepared for the insane amount of homework she gives.
Awesome professor. Does everything she can to make sure every single person has at least a basic understanding before moving on to the next concept. Quizzes and tests are exactly what you would expect. She doesn't try to trick anyone. Lots of homework but very fair grader.
Amazing professor! She made sure everyone understood the material before moving on. She managed her time wisely. The material was difficult but she found a way to make the testsquizzes easier for us.
Professor Humphreys is the worst math professor I've had in my entire schooling character. She makes you feel stupid when you don't understand things she does NOT explain in class. Take anyone else. I've never despised a professor as much as I do her.
We didn't have to buy a textbook so there are a lot of worksheets but all are very helpful. She goes over everything carefully and shows where stuff comes from. This is helpful since I want to be a teacher. Quizzes and exams are exactly like hw so you better practice!!
Calc 2 was hard in general. She is really nice and encouraged office hours which helped a LOT in addition to an hour group study session before class one day a week. Quizzes every week and you really have to do the homework. Tests were hard but ifyou work for it its not the end of the world. She has PERFECT handwriting and very clear in instruction
Dr. Humphreys is the best professor at RIC. He lectures are well thought out and she explains everything so clearly. He lectures were never boring and she's funny. She assigns a lot of homework but it's manageable. Her exams are easy if you study and she gives quizzes every week. I would easily take this class again. Great professor!
She's awesome.
Great professor. Lots of homework and frequent quizzes. Exams mirror the quizzes, so it's never anything you haven't seen before. She's very nice and helpful, and flexible on passing in homework if you need extra time to grasp concepts. Snarky in a funny way, and expects you to act like an adult. Would take again.
An all around great professor! I took calc in high school & had a great teacher, but Dr. Humphreys built on & solidified my understanding. Friday morning study group with her was fantastic & lectures were extremely thorough. She's very sweet & answers questions whenever necessary. WebAssign is a must for this class but easy to use.
genuinely cares about her students, but it feels like she makes the class much harder than it needs to be. Tests are fair, but extremely hard. assigns a ridiculous amount of homework, which is the only way to learn, so get ready to work for your grade. Overall, she's good, but makes the class harder than it needs to be.
I took my first exam in the class and failed miserably. So much homework and quizzes every Friday, which helps but also brings down your grade. Tough grader and exams are nothing like homework
Enthusiastic, high-energy teacher. Puts too much emphasis on rote learning and "drill and kill" methods, but better too much than too little.
One of the best math teachers I ever had. I had taken AP Calculus my senior year of high school but I didn't understand a lot of it. After taking this class, many concepts were much more clear to me. She's an excellent professor!
You could have a worse Professor for Pre Calc. There is a ridiculous amount of homework that will take away from your other classes. The professor is rude to the students and throws them under the bus. The quizzes are almost impossible to score above 15/20. Exams are tougher than quizzes. If you are not a stud at math I recommend another professor.
If you believe in god do not i repeat do not take her class here lies no hope of passing not only does she give an endless supply of hw after cramming 5 lessons in your head she proceeds to do so until she gives you a quiz every friday on the 10 methods you learns a week ago and not what she just shoved in your head save yourself
Hands-down BEST, math professor I've ever had. Not my strongest subj but goes the extra mile to help you understand. Have to buy online HW access. Be prepared for LOTS of HW (2-ish hrs/ class), & 1 Qz/ week. PLENTY of extra help if needed w/ math group and tutors. Qz and Exams straight from lecture & HW. Hard work pays off if you try. LOVE her!
Dr. Humphrey's is a fantastic professor!!! From day 1 she is very clear in saying that there is a lot of work HW requires at least 2 hours. There is a quiz every Friday. She goes above and beyond to get you help. Her Pre-Cal class is the only 1 with a supplimetal instructor( a tutor). YES it is A LOT of work but in the end it is very REWARDING.
Best math professor! Amazing teaching methods and truly cares about her students. I never understood math until I took her course. There is a lot of HW and she covers a lot in lecture, but the only reason you couldn't get a good grade in her class is if you don't put in the effort or don't come to class. She goes above and beyond to help. Love her!
The material of this class is hard.. But at RIC- this is the best professor you will get to teach you it. She moves quick, so you need to stay sharp and pay attention. Online and handed-in homework will boost your grade.. Tests are tough but she tells you exactly what to expect.. Textbook wasn't used - prepare to work hard in this class!
Dr. Humphreys truly cares about her students! She goes above and beyond to provide her students with a quality education. She will do everything in her power to provide you with the necessary resources to succeed, but YOU must be willing to stay dedicated, put in the effort and do your work.
Class wasn't necessarily mandatory but she assigned homework every class and her lectures are very clear and thorough so in order to understand the material, going to class is your best bet. She was really good at explaining the math, gave lots of examples and just super chill overall. I wish other math teachers taught like her.
Dr. Humphrey's class was difficult for me as she moved very quickly, she seemed to explain concepts very well although at times she would explain too many concepts. There is homework every single day, at times you may be assigned online homework as well as paper work homework. I ultimately had to drop the class, she moved far too fast for me.
Professor Humphreys is the best math instructor I have ever had. She is truly a gem of a professor. Smart, a great teacher, and truly wants to see her students succeed. She does move quick so you just have to stay on top of the material. I highly recommend her. Written and online homework, six quizzes, three exams, and one final. Fair grader.
She is the sweetest and very helpful. Great with transitioning to online courses. Lots of homework but really prepares you for tests/quizzes. Gives you a really deep understanding of the material. Would take again!
She is tough but it is worth it! I had her for two semesters one was Pre-Calc and one was Trig. She does teach Calc and only heard good things. So just take her if you want to learn and succeed.
Dr. Humphreys is arguably the best math professor at RIC! She goes in-depth into topics for full understanding and she is doing a great job with transitioning to online learning! She may give a lot of homework, but it truly helps with mastering the material. I wish I could have her for all of my math classes. 100% recommend:)
Dr. Humphreys is an amazing math professor! She is super helpful and accessible in both in-person and online math courses. I would definitely recommend taking her courses. Don't miss out on her teaching!
Professor Humphreys is easily the best math professor I've taken at RIC. She makes sure everyone is understanding what happens during lectures and she is doing an amazing job with transitioning to online classes. Definitely would take her again!!!
Dr. Humphreys teaches math better than any teacher I've ever had, and explains concepts in a way that is easy to grasp. There is a lot of homework, but it really does help you understand the material better. This class transitioned to online while I was enrolled, and she was able to teach effectively even through the distance learning format.
Had this professor during COVID and she was great through it all. May need a tutor does not explain well but overall good teacher and wants you to do well!
Dr. Humphreys is the BEST math professor at RIC. I have taken two classes with her: precalc and calc II. Math has always been a challenge for me, but Dr. Humphreys makes it less scary. Her teaching style focuses on actually helping you understand concepts vs. memorization. She truly cares. Only wish there were more professors like her!
I had her in Fall 2019 for Quantitative Business Analysis. I am not a math whiz. I took advantage of Oasis math tutoring (Kevin is the best!) before each class to help me. Do your homework and ask questions. If you miss a class you will struggle. She really wants you to learn. Treat school like it's a job and show up to class. A+
If you have a chance to take a math class with her, DO IT!!!! I took calc 2 for the first time in the summer & got a C-, retook it with her & got a B. She gives a lot of HW assignments, which are super helpful, a quiz every week & a few exams. She is so easy to get in contact with & answers emails quickly!
Hands down the BEST professor at RIC!!!! She truly cares about her students. She gives a lot of homework and makes you work for your grade, but she is so helpful and understanding! Take her if you can, you will not regret it.
She is in a tier of her own teaching wise, however she really brings the heat on Exam day. To pass this class you need to put in the time and have a separate notebook of all solved HW problems. I am not a good math student at all and she passed me. You need to put in 10+ hours a week to make it. Use her personal student tutor and the OASIS tutors.
Do not let these other reviews deceive you. Do not take this calc course if you dont have an extremely strong math background. Youll be doing a minimum of 3 hours per day of work and that still might not be good enough for exams. The questions are weighted heavily and very difficult. She does not scale anything either or offer any extra credit.
Professor Humphreys is alright. There is homework after every class and 90 percent of it is online. There are 3 exams throughout the semester and quizzes are given almost every two weeks but sometimes sooner depending on the time. The exams are proctored for this class as well. Sometimes she moved a little to fast for me but overall she was ok.
The class was very structured and she always made sure you knew what to expect when it came to homework, quizzes and tests. The class itself can be hard at times but she teaches it very well. Go to every class and write down everything she writes on the board, otherwise you're not going to know what you're doing.
Everything you would want in a Math teacher. Dr. Humphreys is clear and visual when teaching and is an overall good person. She uses examples rather than lecturing and will break down each step and guide you throughout the whole way. Would definitely take another class with her if I had the chance.
Lisa is hands down the best math teacher at RIC, she takes time out of her day to reply back to emails and to stay after class to help students out who need help. Her teaching is phenomenal. For once, I actually understood what I was doing at almost all times. She does give a few quizzes and 3 exams. Definitely recommend to take!
Great Professor has many ways for you to earn credit to pass homework is very important !!!!! Probably the most but also she is very good at explaining the material if you are dedicated you will pass
Really great professor, i have never been good at math and took this class in the summer and she was so helpful and even color codes the notes to help explain. She gives a ton of partial credit and wants you to pass. Just show up and do the work and you're set. make sure to do home works and quizzes.
Excellent professor. Really takes the time to ensure students understand the material. She gives you class time to go over homework questions and allows you to correct your mistakes and finish it up same day. Takes class time to go over what problems are gonna come up on quizzes and exams. She also gives partial credit. Highly recommend!
lisa is by far the BEST math professor at ric. she is smart and amazing at teaching. you can tell she is focused and knows what she is talking about while making sure everyone is on board with her lecture. her workload is quite a bit but it helps a lot and she makes sure everyone is trying their best!
Dr. Humphreys is a really nice lady. She is one of the best math teachers I've ever had in terms of clarity and organization during lectures. She makes it really easy to understand and will go over things many times if you don't understand. Prepare to do a lot of work though. I showed up to pretty much every class and took extensive notes.
I self taught literally this entire course, all she does is give worksheets and you work in your groups until you get it. She did not teach one single thing. Was extremely frustrating to the point that I would take my glasses off so I could not see. Would not like her again
Lisa is a nice professor but the course material is heavy. You will have multiple assignments a week including homework and quizzes.. As long as you are present in her lectures, you will be fine. She explains everything thoroughly and will help anyone who needs. Her exams are okay but shes a tough grader... no scaling. Overall, it really wasn't bad
I'm so horrible at math, so calc 1 seemed like an impossible class to pass. I might not of done amazing but I was able to get through it. prof Humphreys was able to guide and help me every step of the way. She makes you work for it, but she is an amazing teacher
Do not be mistaken that because this is an online course, it will be easier. I self taught literally this entire course. She did not teach a single thing nor was she willing to explain anything. Heavy coursework literally every week.
Very good lectures that are fully developed and explained. She takes time to answer any and all questions about homework or the material. Three exams throughout the semester, which are only based on the work between each of them. Homework is through Cengage and varies based on how much you actually pay attention.
Professor Humphreys is the first math professor I've had who actually helped me understand the material. She emphasizes attendance, and I strongly recommend going to class because she's always willing to help clarify any questions. The course includes attendance, two exams, a final exam, online homework, and occasional paper homework.
The class consists of some real tough material, but the professor does a fantastic job at teaching and helping you. Show up and try, do your hw and study a bit. You will be fine.
