took this class last semester. she is hands down the most horrible teacher i have ever had. she rambles on and on in class. attendance is mandatory. unfair grader. and she doesnt listen to everyone fairly in class. and definatly pushes her own agenda.

she really does suck, i got nothing else except she sucks

She is the worst professor I have ever taken. Took her for an elective because it sounded interesting. She assigned 30-50 pages of reading a night, weekly papers on top of research papers. Is not clear with the syllabus, extremely unorganized, extremely rude. If you ask her for help she will blow you off. DO NOT take her class if you can help

rude, unpleasant and very unclear about her class- she assigns things at the last minute, I still don't know any of my grades. she askes the class to participate but when you do say something, she disagrees or ignores you. she then moves on to whatever she was saying like you never said a word.

If you can avoid taking a class with her please do. She is condescending when she speaks to her students and will embarrass them too...I took a Ant 101 with her and the work seemed like it was for a 300 level class... Never again

I will only repeat much of what is said. Her lectures are vague and scattered in their content. She is extremely slow in handing back work and the workload in her class is unnecessary (I have had seminars with less work). Rude and passively aggressive in class and online. Overall she was the worst teacher I've had as a senior here.

She is offensive, rude, and not helpful. Dresses inappropriately and swears too much. She gives harsh, not helpful criticism on your work. Too many assignments and no matter how hard you work they will never meet her standards. Horrible professor.

WARNING! Do NOT take ANY class with Dr. Knauer! UNLESS you want to put down and judged by her, be pressured to participate in class then get criticized for ANYTHING you say (she is ALWAYS right you are wrong), given WAY too much irrelevant work and papers. Course load is outrageous in all her classes, has a poor attitude, rude and unorganized.

The worst professor I have ever taken a class with in my entire college career! Rude, disorganized, tells you many different deadlines and strays from syllabus and back to it when it suits her, confusing, BORING, annoying, inexperienced at teaching. Should just stick to her own research and not teach, she doesn't know how! Should've dropped!!!! :(

This professor is the epitome of a pretentious college professor. Encourages discussion but when anyone says anything say may as well say "that was stupid", which is fine cause students do SOMETIMES say uninformed things but so often she'll go on to say THE EXACT SAME THING. Not sure why she teaches if she so clearly hates us students.. AVOID HER

Rude & condescending. Following her guidelines is not enough. She always wants more from you. Worst class and rudest professor I have dealt with at UMass.

Disorganized and assigns too much reading for an undergraduate course. Pretends wants things to be all loose and roundtable discussion oriented, but when anyone contributes thoughts she tilts her head and says "well..." and goes on to restate the student sentiment. Expectations unclear, parameters of class objectives unclear, horrible experience.

This class was one of the worst experiences of my college career. Prof Knauer was overly critical if you attempted to participate. The class was a giant show and tell session on her trip to Guatemala. I honestly think she may have pulled grades out of a hat. I strongly urge people not to take this course. She should be reevaluated as a professor.

Worst Professor I have ever taken a course with.Extremely unorganized,and consistently changes her mind about everything from assignments to grading.She barely graded any assignments until several weeks after the semester had ended.I strongly urge that you avoid taking any courses with her at all costs.

I've only had this class for a few weeks. But I already know that that professor is very disorganized, rude, she gives way too much homework for a level 100 course. Plus she makes absolutely no sense in her lectures. She doesnt really teach, she makes things up, Ive caught her several times. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS

Very unorganized. Extremely rude. She does not appreciate different opinions on anything, and she takes a long time to grade work. The workload is quite ridiculous for n entry level class. Her class is very boring and the only reason attendance is mandatory is because you would never have to show up to class. Class is not engaging in the least bit.

Feels the need to constantly talk about her time in Guatemala, harsh grader...does not give any positive feedback and is essentially rude when students ask questions. I feel that I have learned absolutely nothing. Would not recommend this professor for ant 111!!!!

Whenever I turned in an assignment she would tear it apart to the point where it is insulting. But then give a decent grade..Its like in order to achieve a good grade you have to suffer her wrath and have her make you feel like an idiot. Aside from that she is a very tough grader, a rude person and does not teach the class she has the students talk

Please avoid taking her if you can. Takes weeks to grade work when she assigns about 2-3 assignments a week. Is NO WHERE near clear on her assignments. Also, she is the kind of teacher that emails you the night before to make a million corrections to an assignment (that you passed in weeks ago) the night before it is due.

She's rude and disrespectful to students, especially if she disagrees with you. Class is extremely unorganized and she almost never comes prepared. There is too much work for a freshman level course and she does not return grades (or emails) in a timely manner. There are no tests or quizzes (the final was 3 essays); however, she is a harsh grader

Don't take this professor! She's rude and grades major assignments last minute. Very unclear on her assignment's and assigns 100+ pages of reading a week. Very harsh on feedback on assignments rather than being helpful. The whole 2 and a half hour class she goes over the reading (pointless). Expectations are high but teaching skills don't match

She is one of the rudest professors I have taken and when you email her she makes you overall feel dumb. I emailed her about a question multiple times but she did not reply. If you don't want a professor that makes you feel bad about yourself I advise you not to take her.

She is extremely rude, she'll ask for your opinion and then bash you for what you have to say. There is an extreme amount of reading and she never gives you enough time to actually read what needs to be read. Speaks more about her personal experiences rather then what the course provides. Won't be taking this professor again.

Extremely rude, very disorganized, super harsh grader and makes you feel awful about yourself, especially when you spend a lot of time on an assignment just to have her bash it. She takes FOREVER to grade things. So much reading and not enough time to read it all. DO NOT take if your schedule is very busy.

Do not take her class! She is awful and so disorganized. She comes in not prepared with her laptop not charged. And she is so disrespectful when grading. She will ask for your opinion but will bash it if its not exactly hers. She is lecture heavy and will assign 150+ pages a week.

Easily the worst professor I have ever had. She is very condescending and rude to all of her students and does not respect your opinions. I had more work in her class than in any of my upper level classes. She never comes prepared and grades very hard. Also would not give me an A when i had to points to receive it

I wish I would've taken the advice I received and not taken this professor. She is not clear with what she expects in assignments and takes weeks to grade and give you feed back but wants a final draft submitted in the mean time. Posts assignment revisions last minute. I would only take her again if I had no other option.

Took intro to cultural anthropology, and the class is nothing more than liberal PC culture indoctrination. The professor is extremely pretentious and condescending. Lots of "discussion" HW where you have to prove you're indoctrinated to get an A. Also discussion boards are due at really weird times (5 p.m, 9 a.m., 9 pm., etc.)

I'm a senior and this is the worst class I've ever taken. Where do I start? The professor is a condescending jerk who assigns WAY too much homework for a 100-level class. She makes you go out and interview people then has you make whole projects and posters around it. Its completely monotonous and you don't really learn anything from it.

Absolutely awful! doesnt tell you why she took points off of homework assignments. assigns way too much work for 100 level class. Rude to students. We had a important paper due at the beginning of the semester and we still havent got grade yet (semester grades close in less than a week from now ). she gives NO instructions for assignments.

If at all possible do not take this class. As I am writing this grades are past due and she still hasn't graded my midterm project that was passed in the first week of March. She expects you to treat this class like it is your masters thesis and assigns an inappropriate amount of work for a 100 level class.

This teacher is by far the worst teacher I have ever had at Umass. She is very mean and rude to her students. She takes forever to grade your work. She will call on you in class to hear your input and then tell you that your ideas are 100% wrong. I would not recommend. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PROFESSOR!

Takes forever to grade work. Had her during the COVID closure and she doubled the amount of work we had to do. Gives you online readings that are over 20 pages long, would have rather rented the book instead of her just scanning it and you have to read from a screen.

The absolute worst professor I've ever had. She makes it a point to be utterly rude to students for the most benign reasons, opting to make rude remarks that offer no constructive criticism on feedback of papers rather than any real analysis. Also takes herself way too seriously - despite being the only professor who has not submitted any grades.

This professor was the worst I've ever had. She is so rude and condescending. She takes points off on assignments but doesn't give a reason why. It takes her forever to grade stuff and to actually post the assignments you have to do. After reading the reviews I thought she can't be that bad BUT trust me SHE IS.

By far the worst class I have taken so far. Directions are not clear and constantly change last minute. I always felt behind no matter how far ahead I got. Horrible communication all semester long. She also takes 2 months to grade large assignments, so be prepared to get screwed at the end of semester.

Took months to grade everything and was so bad she missed the deadline for final grades. She makes you read about 100 pages a week, does not instruct the class well at all and gives abysmal instructions. There's also a bunch of group work that serves no purpose. I learned nothing and suffered anyway. GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN. PLEASE ESCAPE!!!!!!

There was just way too much work, the whole class asked about critical summaries which are due once a week on 3-4 reading 100+ pages. The whole class told her it was to much and it was stressful she told us she didn't think it was and continued to assign them. The whole class was against the critical summaries and she did not care one bit.

No feedback on submitted assignments. Weeks pass without grades

She is not the nicest professor. I remember I emailed her asking if there was class on friday b/c she didn't explain the schedule clear enough and her response was nasty. she wrote in all caps "DID YOU CHECK YOUR COIN? It says it very clear." like bro just say yes or no... On top of that the workload is unnecessary. would NOT recommend.

She's so picky and specific and just constantly contradicts herself she puts out an assignment and says its a "Loose Essay" and the knitpicks and takes points off if we dont capitilize a word its just kind

Attendance was mandatory and work was super easy. My biggest problem was the group discussions EVERYDAY. You would be put in a random group with people who did not contribute and answer some easy questions, of which she would tell you that you were wrong if you did not give the answer she wanted (on an opinion based question). Avoid if you can

Completely out of touch with reality of students time and management acts like we dont have other things to do, gives us an essay for homework every day and is a complete hard @ss about sources and grammar and is super passive aggressive in emails also likes to accuse you but not straight up do it so she thinks theirs less tension
