apparently you guys have a different professor than me. She is hands down, worst professor i've ever had. She runs her class like an elementary school, yelling at ppl for reading the Ontarion, for leaving, stares ya down if ya have to go to the bathroom, and god forbid you crack a smile.hate her

She's horrible. Looks like most people agree. Her class is a waste of time if you hope to learn anything. She's offended that attendance is low and therefore tries to screw EVERYONE over on exams instead of aim at making lectures more effective. She demands COMPLETE silence and notices everything.

Absolutely horrible. Offers concise exam review, however, everything on the exam seems to be derived from the textbook rather than her boring lectures. Its a constant cycle of boredom. Do I need to mention her condescending nature? YOU MAY ONLY ADDRESS HER AS DOCTOR. she is in desperate need of a reality check.

OHH what to say about her...I have had the pleasure of too many classes with her and it's the same...BORING!! I've had her for classical theory before this class..she puts me to sleep every class...she will yell at people in class who are whispering to each other or reading the newspaper! what is wrong with her? Plus, her exams reviews don't help

my goodness where do i start. first of all, not easy on the eyes at all. secondly, who the hell doesn't help out a student via e-mail?? if you take the time to write me a fully length e-mail telling me how you don't help student through e-mail, could you at least not write "yes, that's a good topic for your essay" SOMEWHERE in that?

If you like breathing, do NOT take her class. she gets angry and stops the class everytime she hears a noise. She's borring and afraid to add her own input into her own lectures. She's not encouraging or helpful. And good luck if you want her to clarify anything for you in class. And when a student participates her only respons is "yes. Right...".

she's a perfect candidate for "what not to wear". i'm pretty sure she hates teaching and she hates human contact. non-existent sense of humour. i would rather watch paint dry than attend her lectures.

She's very vague and her lectures are painful. Exams focus on minute details - after the midterm half the class dropped the course. Following her written instructions for the major paper resulted in a low grade. I did every reading and attended every class so she must have kept the real instructions hidden.

She is the most unapproachable prof ever. I failed a midterm and brought it to her and she could not even tell me what I did wrong! I wanted help and she could not explain what was wrong. Not approachable, BRUTAL marker, and boring lectures.

Generally professors inspire students to love a subject or at the very least become interested in the course material. This cannot be said of this professor. Take any other class.

This proffessor is very unprofessional when dealing with issues that students have. Her midterms and exams are extremely hard and unfair. I would NOT recommend taking any classes with this prof because i found it to be a huge waste of my time and money.

They were unorganized and she often started talking about stuff that seemed irrelevant & She doesn't put all the slides from her class on courselink She doesn't give any useful info on what to study for exams and the exams are brutally specific and difficult.

please save yourself the misery that is her class and never take it with her. Super ridiculous midterm and final exam in terms of nit-picking the textbook and throwing random unknowable questions onto the exams. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HER.

She basically reads off a piece of paper the entire lecture. For the tests she picks random parts of lectures or the textbook without guiding us at all. I really hope she reads this so she can get better.

Awful, just awful. Her lectures are extremely boring, often going off track, and midterms are very difficult. Never done this poorly in a class before. If you can avoid her as a prof I would do so. It'll save you from pulling your hair out.

Horrible teacher, didn't show up to half the classes herself as she taught from a webcam. Studied hard for all the exams and ended up with a 50.

Extremely boring lectures, she also taught over webcam for a month. That is absolutely unacceptable when we are paying tonnes of money to take this course. Midterms are very unfair and chalked full of specific and unimportant detail. Avoid at all costs unless if you absolutely need to take her class

Her tests were on material that were rarely discussed or covered. For a course like soc 1100, they average should be higher than mid 50s.

her hour and twenty minute class is the worst experience I have ever had in my life and ruins my whole day. She is the worst teacher. Midterm was so hard and questions were irrelevant. Do not take this class. You have been warned

NEVER TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES OR YOU ARE ASKING TO FAIL OR COME PRETTY DARN CLOSE TO IT. HER EXAMS WILL LEAVE YOU FEELING LIKE YOU'VE JUST BEEN KICKED IN THE STOMACH. Never take a sociology course with this professor, her class was the hardest course I have taken to date. This Prof puts the majority of your final mark on the midterms and the final and makes it unreasonably hard to the point where most questions were not from the textbook or lectures but her personal experience. She tests on irrelevant info

The notes she posts online are terrible. She pulls her questions for midterms and exams out of the air. Most questions I had never read or heard about. Run while you can, I wish I had listened to everyones advice on this site.

When I read all the reviews on this professor, I thought she wouldn't be as bad she is made to be. However, I was very wrong. She is horrible at teaching, her tests are unachievable no matter how hard you study for them, and she is very unorganized and all over the place in lecture. She also rarely answers emails. Do not take a course with her.

DO NOT RECOMMEND! If you have this "prof" please think otherwise! Her midterms are extremely hard and have nothing to do with the lecture material, and on top of that she is very rude when responding to emails regarding questions. Please do not take a course with her as this was my elective and my lowest grade.

When asked for any tips to do better on her midterms she replied with "my generation simply studied harder than yours". Her lectures were pointless. You would think that for someone who insists to be called "Doctor", every other word she says shouldn't be "um". DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH LISA!

This is truthfully the worst professor and teacher I have ever experienced. I asked for guidance and help from her and she didn't answer my email and proceeded to give me a 20% on a paper that I worked so incredibly hard on. Who can possibly get a 20% on a research paper? Never EVER take a course with her. She has no care for her students.

Leaves scathingly destructive remarks on your work and gives extremely challenging exams. Her classes kind of leave you defeated - you do your best and put in the work to obtain an underwhelming grade. She also has issues accommodating students with disabilities in her classroom. Needs a refresher on appropriate conduct.

Most boring uncaptivating lectures Ive ever attended

This person is the worst. Her lectures are dreadfully bland, and her grading is unreasonably tough. I had her for 2 classes. The first one I received an A- because she scaled due to most of the class failing the exam. I tried her again second year and she gave me an F. I switched majors after that so I never had to see this woman again.

Easily the most difficult and stressful course I've taken in my three years thus far. Ruthless grader, and very difficult to please. My biggest complaint, however, lies in the feedback she gave on her assignments. Not only was she very aggressive in her comments, but at times she was just mean. Don't take the course if you don't have to.

This was one of the worse courses I have taken! The prof was unreasonably hard and gave little to no feedback even if you followed the rubric you still received a bad mark. I took this class thinking it would be interesting and easy enough but it was my lowest mark of the semester and impacted my GPA. Avoid taking a course with this prof!

Literally the worst decision taking this class. She is such a hard marker, leaves a 20-minute window to take tests online which is ridiculous. I ended up dropping the class because I didn't want my GPA to be affected ... do not take classes with this prof.

NEVER, EVER TAKE A CLASS WITH LISA KOWALCHUK. EVER Her lectures are very unstructured. If you do not spend countless hours reading and analyzing you will not succeed. Midterm, book review and final exam are all written and range between 10-12 pages each. Save yourself the stress and agony by taking literally any other class with a different prof.

Her lectures are unstructured. She rambles and discusses examples endlessly without getting to the content. You'll have to rely on the textbook to learn what any of the actual theories are about. She is a tough grader. Her guidelines and questions are confusing and she won't clarify. The class average is a low sixty and she refuses to regrade.

SO RUDE! If you politely ask for help, because her questions are confusing, she will respond in the rudest way possible. I only asked if I could ask for help and she told me I was "asking to be spoon-fed." DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.

Terrible professor who takes up majority of class time talking about stuff that isn't relevant to the tests or papers she assigns. Very difficult marker who will refuse to regrade even if you think she is wrong. Gives hardly any feedback when you've done something wrong. Textbook covers more than she ever does.

Professor Kowalchuk is an unreasonably hard marker. Her expectations is absolutely incredible, I strongly advise choosing any other professor. I am a fourth year student and she was the hardest marker I have come across by far. Her comments are not helpful, lectures tedious, and often is very rude over emails

A hard marker, very subjective expectations. Asking for feedback meetings proves useless, she uses her own opinions to mark papers, despite students following all guidelines provided and making relevant connections to literature (her words). Participation mandatory every class. Unreasonable expectations for students, lax expectations for herself.

This professor is a terrible marker. She had a take home mid term average of a 52% and presented us with no rubric. There was unclear feed back and unclear instructions.

Entire class failed midterm, 52% average, she blamed it on us (said in her email to the class "for those of you who will stay in the class, I expect you try harder") & offered TERRIBLE feedback. 3 sentences of feedback for 1500 words. Insisted we reference all 16 readings (SIXTEEN) in only 1500 words but failed me for my use of direct quotations.

genuinely the hardest marker ive ever had. Youre gonna get graded on nothing unless u use lecture material. I had panic attacks because I was SCARED to submit a paper. I almost barfed. She makes you feel inferior based on her marking. Her marking scheme is so taxing?? the percentages are like 2.5 each and the grading is never distributed properly.

Just wrote the midterm for this class which was worth 30% of your grade. the whole class got a 54% average, looking at previous years seems like nothing has changed in her style. She is a very tough marker, Her lectures are interesting but unrealistic expectations for her students when it comes to her tests.

Never have I ever in my university career have I gotten such a low grade. Each midterm was below 50% as the average and was blamed on us, meanwhile we are using her material to study… something does not add up. Stay away!

The worst professor I've ever experienced my 4 years of university. She is extremely rude to her students if you email her any questions. She is out to get her students rather then wanting them to succeed. Stay away from any of her classes if you want to keep your sanity.
