the average in 2002 fall is C !!!
She was a good teacher for first year calc, quite clear. tests are hard though
MATH 124was a bloody hard course, but she did a good job making it easier
Voice is harsh in the morning. Good teacher and hard tests.
Be sure to attend every class for your own good!
great teacher, knows her stuff, whips through stuff too fast (she's obviously forced to cover way too much material), very helpful during office hours, but DO NOT MISS CLASS OR THE ASSIGNED WORK, as it will kill you on her really hard tests (all of them)
Covers the material but adds very little
not interesting
The test is difficult, but the final is ok. Just test what we make mistakes in the quiz. But, the work lord of assignment is large. It is the most difficult courses I took.
I've been taught by the best and she ain't it. I admitt calculus is hard no matter who's teaching it but she's has to give a little more. She needs to get down on the students level so that she can understand our problems and not get annoyed.
I don't think she's bad at all. She's nice, clear, concise and helpful if you need it. Not too bad with marking either; just follow the guidelines that are set at the beginning.
Way too fast! Doesn't add much to notes. Puts you right to sleep. Hard tests.
Explains well. Often pauses to let a student insert a right answer. Goes at a pace that is just right.
Awesome Teacher...

Lisa is a rather bitter teacher. Through out the class, her bitterness spreads on people. The students even end up bitter at eachother. Everyone is rather bitter in class. UHG!
She doesnt know how to teach 105 properly. The difficulty difference between the examples and tests is incredible. She uses very basic examples to explain, which is good, but she never shows how to do complicated questions which kills people on tests.
Lisa does a really good job teaching the material. But lets be honest, you're gonna get a crappy mark if you don't do all the homework and don't get help when you need it. Do not fall behind! Old exam booklets are a GODSEND!!!
She is just sexy and not good for teaching
she is totally unwilling to help you. when i ask her a question, she looks at me like i am talking about something very strange. her quizzes are really hard compare to frank and reimar(specially reimar)
bad bad bad teacher. don't waste your time with her. her quizzes are tooooooo hard. and she doesn't want to help. don't take any course with her
marking for tests was extremely picky, any marginal error was marked wrong and any recurrances of the same error would be marked wrong as well
more or less horrible
Unwilling to help. She seems to be on a very strict timetable. Rushes through the material with very basic examples.. and then throws out test questions never discussed in class. Doesnt seem to like students asking questions because of her "timetable", so you ask a quesiton, and she will give you a random answer. She is quite monotoned.
unwilling to answer any questions, her timetable is too busy to help her students, her examples in class are simple, but on the test are near impossible, her monotone voice makes it even worse, it creates a large headache for the rest of the day, hope the class with her isnt in the morning, or else bring some tylenol, dont take her class...ever
"worst nightmare" ever... 11 [email protected] 6 left. HAD to review Sequences+Series(chapter 8) of MATH 126 and MATH 200 is highly recommanded for understanding matrices. Prereq: MATH 124 with at least a C- grade, not true. BARELY understanding the material and she gives out extremely hard problems for assignments that need to be hand in.
Lisa's cool. She has no problems answering questions if people bother to go and ask her outside of class. She's really into the topics discussed in this course and can get other people into it if they just let her.
she is the worst math prof this college has ever had! so hard to understand what she is doing in the class although she knows what she is doing. her midterms are soooooooo hard, doing the questions in the book doesn't help that much! sorry, but changeeeeeee your class!
The course does not feel rushed. Information it presented simply then she makes it more advanced
Lisa is helpful if you go and ask her for help......don't be lazy!!! This course is hard in the first place no matter who's teaching it.....so just work hard and you'll probably get it.
I had Lisa for both 105 and 116, and never has a teacher had the ability to make me understand math better than she has. She will help you whenever it is within her power to do so, and is happy to see you succeed. I would recomend Lisa to anybody.
Lisa allows her students to get to their own conclusions which was good. Her tests didn't have many surprises and her course package was in depth enough. My only bad comment is that she seems to talk to her students as if they were small children. GREAT PROF!

she marks way to hard, if you have anything at all that she doesnt like you will lose half or 1 mark. It seems like she tries to take marks away instead of give them. overall a horrible teacher
her notes seem to make sense... but then you look back at them and they dont :( here assignments are pretty hard too
The worst teacher I've ever seen. You don't have to attend the class because you will not understand well. Her tests are 60% challenging which makes you barely pass or fail. Stay away from her class.
I spent 3 year in Capilano University(at that time it was college). During my stay, I never had a teacher worse than her. She is so bad at everything and she enjoys taking marks off. She is not understandable, even a little. It is pleasurable for her to see students fail. I am not exaggerating, SHE IS THE WORST TEACHER AT CAPILANO UNIVERSITY.
she is such a hard teacher that i ever seen in my life.
stay away at all costs!
Great teacher. Tests are hard but she is very helpful. Try to make it to the extra tutorial day. Everything makes sense after them.
I've always been relatively good at math... I attended all of her classes and tutorials and studied hard, and still the content of all of her tests came as a surprise - way harder than anything studied in class or the textbook. It seems like she wants to see people fail.
she is such a bad teacher does not know how to teach and she LOVES to see people fail. she will do anything she can to take marks off of either assignments or tests. she is THE worst teacher i have ever had.
She is the best .Her exams are not easy but she is a fair marker.I was not good at math but I got an A- just by attending all of her classes and doing all the assignments. She is really a nice person.
Somewhat but once you get on her bad side she is a total ****. I love Math but she has been the worst math instructor I have ever had. Goes way too fast through the course. She is pretty helpful if you go see her for extra help. The textbook seems like it may be of use but it is useless because the questions are never ever the same as the book.
MATH 152 Wow, all i can say is pretty bad. She has a monopoly on the course and tries to screw you on tests. The course is not consistent with UBC, UVIC, Or SFU. Dont ever ever ever take a class with her. Shes not much of a teacher rather a dictator instead
All I can say is she is GREAT.She knows what she does.
Goes way too fast in class, moves on to next chapters without clarifying, notes are straight forward but require a lot of effort at home and on your own time. Wouldn't take this course if i didn't have to!
Calculus is going to be impossible with whatever prof u get but Lisa makes it a lot easier. Just do the online tutorials and assignments REPEATEDLY and dont waste your time with the book. You will get a C+/B- guaranted
makes student suffer by 1. creative tests, textbook is for reference only 2. wording of the test question is extremely unclear 3. over 30% failure rate 4. historically no body gets higher that B+ in her linear algebra 5. people who failed her class usually gets a way higher result at other college
Excellent teacher, very thorough with all material. She is a teacher that will try to challenge you on tests, but I enjoy that quite a bit. Overall one of my favourites at Cap U.
she's not a bad teacher. but you do have to spend a lot of time self learning if you want to succeed in this class.
Good teacher. My fav math teacher at Cap. I don't know what people are talking about on here. If she went over something to fast, then go see her during office hours! .. people are just lazy and like to complain. She is a very fair teacher- VERY rarely I will question her judgment in putting a "tricky" question on a test.
Very helpful teacher, explains things clearly and will go over a concept if you don't get it. Her tests are fair, expect one or two challenging questions though! But if you study/do her exercise sets, it is possible to get an A. Very friendly too! Use her office hours, and go to the tutorials. This course made me appreciate Discrete Math!
Lisa is my favorite math teacher at cap. She explains things really well. Her tests are fairly tricky though so you have to stay on top of doing homework
Definitely one of the best teachers I have had at Cap. She explains the material in great detail and puts a large emphasis on understanding theoretical definitions and proofs. You will have to put in quite a bit of study time as her tests can be tricky but she is very helpful if you ever email her or visit her outside class. Don't buy the text.
Great instructor. Tests can be hard, make sure you do all the textbook q + tutorials + other instructors tests. She's nice but can be assertive on certain situations.
I've had 3 courses with Lisa. If you like math, want a more challenging class and care about learning then take her class. (she is the most knowledgeable) / If you have to take math but don't like it, want to just attend classes and get a passing grade and don't care about learning that much then don't take her class. (it's harder than the average)
One of the worst. i managed to get a good mark in her class but man was it pile of work. trust me if you want a high mark dont take lisa. her tests are just rediculous and you have one amost every 2nd week before a final...
Extremely hard marker with very unclear grading criteria. The course itself is already hard enough (TONS of proofs and definitions for math), mix this with a very tough grader and youre screwed. Class averages was always below 60% and this was a class full of ENGINEERING STUDENTS. The second you get a calc wrong in your work, you lose 3/4 marks.
Harder than calc 2
She explains thing perfectly in the class but she penalizes you so bad for notations
I do NOT recommend taking linear algebra with Lisa. i was strongly advised by classmates to take 200 instead of 152 at all costs (i can only imagine how bad that is) but 200 was a nightmare as well. her marking is so strict, especially on proofs. so rude when you ask questions. i retook this course at langara & did much better/ better experience
Goes through material WAYYYYY too fast! Don't zone out or you'll get extremely lost. Very tough marker on tests. Penalizes you hard for notations. I put -2/1 as a final answer and got it wrong because I didn't reduce it to -2. Most of my class is failing because of the way she grades tests. If you are not strong in Math, avoid Lisa's class.
Unreasonably strict marker; penalizes huge on small mistakes that's don't demonstrate a lack of understanding. She tests every second week until the final. The tests are extremely difficult, and our class average was very very poor. She teaches in a way that negates what we learned in high school, often leaving the class confused. Not flexible.
Terrible! Goes through materials WAY TOO FAST and doesn't explain very well. Only allows the methods that SHE teaches and nothing else you have learned. Grading is ridiculous on her tests and assignments especially on notations. When you ask her a question she talks down to you feel dumb. Tests are every 2 weeks until finals. Class average is low
Super fast!!!!!!! I couldn't understand anything from in the lecture.
I think Lisa is very underrated in terms of the math faculty. She's organized, gives good lectures, and easy to access with email or office hours. My only gripe is that she goes a bit fast sometimes in lectures. Also the final was ridiculously long.
Lisa is extremely well prepared with thorough lectures, lots of available practice problems and is often available to provide help. She has a great understanding of the material and provides great explanations of the topics. The people rating lower only do so because the math courses she teaches are quite difficult.
Don't take her if you're not really good at math. You learn all her stuff pretty well, I mean she's a good teacher but when it comes to grading the tests shes the worst. She WILL take marks off for even the smallest thing. When you feel good about the class the test marks only put you down. Avoid her if you can. Engineers, I feel for you.
Lisa is very structured. She knows exactly the class timetable (where to start and finish) each day all throughout the semester. A lot of my peers complained about her class (which I cannot blame them) because she loves taking part marks off, but honestly she just has a very clear marking criteria. Take her class if u really want to learn good math
The prof was too fast, and very very very tough grader.
There are lots of rumors about Lisa, and I was afraid to take classes with her. But she is actually a good professor. Her teaching skill is amazing and she is a normal grader. If you work hard and do your homework you'll be fine.
I honestly think she is a great person, she seems to be very sweet. I don't know if it was specifically my problem, I am not great at math... But her system of tests was not good. The textbook has SO many mistakes in the solutions. And also, she speaks very fast and just assumes you understood. So much content!! hard to keep up, I'll probably fail
She is knowledgeable prof but honestly, I don't know how she grades the tests!!!!!!!!!!!!! don't take courses with her if you wanna get A! I can't describe how terrible my marks are after taking this course with her! to be mentioned that I had taken the same course before and managed to get a good grade!!! TOUGH GRADER!!
I cant believe the way she designs the test questions and grades them! Unbelievably tough in grading! She also doesnt give out averages so we wont know how difficult the tests are. The lectures are hard but manageable however the tests are EXTREMELY DIFFERENT AND DIFFICULT. She needs to be more relaxed because we are not mathematicians!!!
She is a good person and her teaching is fine.. the only issue is the tests and how she grades them. Tests are not what we were taught in the class and I think she only cares about a few people who are extremely active in the class and talks to them frequently ignoring everyone else. I wish I had taken the course with someone else
I dont know if its my problem only but she is too fast at explaining! Test are very hard and after studying for days I received 67. She deducts partial marks for everything. She is a nice person however
She is a true meaning hard grader, you have to write all the names of rules you use to solve a question on your answer sheet. Also, her tests' time is not enough and the given and wanted numbers of questions are awful My advice: Do not take any courses with her because you are not gonna learn anything and not gonna get a good grade
she is a terrible grader! deducts marks out of every single thing and the tests are terribly hard, we realized this after seeing other instructors !! I think she believes that she is teaching herself rather than first-year university students and expects too much from students. speaks fast and only pays attention to a handful of people in the class
Probably the worst math instructor at Cap U. She marks very unfairly and goes over the content very quickly. She genuinely doesn't care if her students understand the topic. Her tests have surprise questions that are not covered very well in the notes. Avoid her at all costs!
For someone who has never had experience with calculus, this class is almost impossible. Lisa will blitz through her confusing slides and give absolutely no time to think or review. Her notes packages are comprehensive but none of that material is featured on the tests or quizzes so essentially what she teaches you will not be on your assessments.
Don't even think about it.
She is very fast with her lectures and does not go in deeply with her materials. She just talks then tests u on things. However she is very intelligent and is a very sweet and loving professor! But she is also super selective with talking to people in class. I love math and I wish i was given more time to consume all the information better
Calc 1 is tough. This is a known fact. While I initially was upset with the marks I was losing on tests I quickly realized they could be avoided with time and dedication. Any questions you may have the MLC is available where lisa and the rest of the math faculty is available to answer and questions you may have 1 on 1. Do not take this for granted!
She knows math very well but seems to think everyone knows the subject matter as well as her. She goes very fast in lectures and stuff will pile up very quickly if you miss anything. She is nice sometimes but also will talk down to you if you have a question she thinks is obvious. If you want to do well math has to be your entire life.
To be honest, tests were heavy, but if you attend classes, pay attention and do your homework you should be fine. She has by far the best resource set I have ever used in a class.
This professor is Bad one. Can't pass with only average study time. Need to give 3 hours per day.
Bad one never ever take this professor if u take then get ready to fail
If you don't have the energy to do a lot of work, don't take her class -- if you do take it, you will really learn the material well. Class average was low. She has a great resource set online, if you do all the reccomended work then you will pass the class, but, again, it may be a lot.
Worst professor at this school so far. Takes away part marks for every thing she can find but doesnt give part marks for partly correct answers. Dont take her class if you dont have to.
Awful prof, takes away part marks for everything she can find but doesnt give part marks even if your answer is mostly correct. Dont take her class if you dont have to
Lisa is a great professor and extremely organized. Her midterms are more than fair and the questions are very similar to what she covers in class, not meant to mess you up. She explains topics and answers questions thoroughly. There were also old recordings of all her lectures. Only downside is she is a strict marker when it coems to notation.
