Her power points in lecture are not useful for studying but honestly I got an A by going to test prep si sessions and just doing the review packets before the tests. There is a lot of homework but its easy and takes like 20 minutes or less.
Limeri was an excellent Professor in the sense that she wants her students to succeed. The class is very homework-heavy so as long as you actually participate in class and assignments you'll end up with an A or B. But, I wish the course offered a textbook - you basically use khan academy to learn. And Limeri hates if you disagree with her methods.
Basically go to SI sessions before tests and you're set. She has effective teaching methods and if you follow them they do work. Not test heavy at all really, 4 exams, 7.5% each with a final worth 10%. If you mess up the tests it's not too big of a deal and she even offers retakes for almost every exam (Excepting 4 and Final).
I enjoyed taking Biology I with Dr. Limeri. She is very considerate towards those who turn in quality work & are focused in the course. Her practice questions, the student practice questions, and lecture material on TopHat are helpful in reviewing for tests. Although the homework load is heavy, she is an overall great professor for this course.
To be honest Prof. Limeri is a very nice and caring person, but it is very noticeable that she is a new teacher. In class notes do not help at all on the quizzes/tests and the Tophat questions hold a similar relevance. Online work on SimBio is long and often haphazardly assigned as busywork. Go to SI sessions if you want to pass her awkward tests.
Dr. Limeri is a very kind person, and she makes the material interesting, but her teaching style wasn't effective for many students. We had to draw diagrams and use her specific study methods, which were graded. These take up time that could used for studying in a way that works for you, and for me, were just busywork and did not help on the exams.
She doesn't teach. You have to complete pfl's before class and you get most of the content from this videos. Most of the time these videos are khan academy. You spend most of the class teaching yourself. The only good part is that you can retake the test. Try to take anywhere else if you want to learn.
It was her first semester, but Dr. Limeri did us a disservice to our learning, she constantly oversimplified material and lectures to avoid it being a weed out class. Its the sole reason why most people are doing bad in the second sequence of biology, even with the tests being online. I'd rather take this course at a cc than at tech.
Extremely easy course! If you are looking for an easy A, this is the class to take and boost your GPA! Her exams were very straightforward and similar to the study questions. However I do agree with the other reviews that this course does not prepare you for future biology courses.
Prof. Limeri should not make lectures mandatory if she is not going to teach anything. She spends more time talking about study methods and forcing you to use the study method she likes than actually teaching the material. The exams are easy only if you study outside material, if you only study notes from lectures you will fail. Made me hate Bio.
She will grade you based off of study techniques that work for herself but not always the student. Tests are easy but only if you study material outside of lecture notes. Lectures are genuinely worthless and only go over case studies. Really annoying class. Wish there were more options for bio profs at Tech because she has made me hate biology.
Limeri's lectures are worthless. She goes over case studies and study methods, many of which are not used by her students, but never dives into the course material. She enforces attendance with TopHat questions and threatens to report anyone that does the TopHat questions outside of class to the Department of Student Conduct. We need someone better
Get ready for A LOT of homework. Online readings, Blackboard assignments, SimuText assignments etc. So if you don't have time after class or like busywork to cushion your grade, don't take her The lectures don't help much. Studying outside material or going to study sessions/tutoring is better But she is a fair grader, and offers retests on exams
There is tons of homework and textbook reading, but it is slightly beneficial because her lectures have absolutely nothing to do with the tests and are unhelpful and mandatory for no reason. She does offer retests, but she keeps the second grade whether it is better or worse and the second tests are often harder. Limited to no extra credit.
Subpar situation really. The class is really easy, but only if you put in the work outside of class. She doesn't have a PhD in biology, but one in biology education. She teaches biology at a third-grade level and the tests are much harder than she makes it out to be in the lectures. Insecure, not very bright, take any other professor if possible.
This is my third year and Dr. Limeri is the worst professor I have had by far. She makes lectures mandatory but her lectures cover NOTHING that is on the exam and talks about case studies that can be summarized in one sentence. Study outside material to pass exams. She also makes students use her preferred study methods. Did not enjoy this class.
She is very wordy with her lectures and exams which can be extremely hard to comprehend, however she provides resources for this class- YOU WILL NEED THEM. I don't find her lectures very helpful so you will have to do your own learning by watching videos and doing the textbook assignments (there's a lot). If you need more help go to SI sessions.
Dr. Limeri is okay. Her teaching hinges on you doing outside work beforehand which isn't great because her lectures are very basic. You HAVE to go to class to get credit, which is weird. Tests aren't that bad. She gives lots of practice questions. If you can do the work outside of class and study before the test, chances are you'll do fine.
Limeri is not a good professor. Her lectures are mandatory but they have nothing to do with the exams or the content she expects you to know. Her exams are extremely difficult to understand and she will try to trick you. She also uses her classes to study students not to actually teach you biology. She forces you to do things to learn a certain way
Dr. L is a great professor. Since she is actively researching Biology education she works really hard to make this class extremely efficient. There are many assignments throughout her class but these ultimately help you learn the material well enough to do minimal studying for her tests.
Lisa is fine. She wants people to study her way, which is fine as a suggestion, but annoying when she has homework assignments that make us study her way (which were completely useless to me, I know what study strategies work for myself Lisa). She's an okay prof, clearly cares about what she's teaching. Sometimes tries to trick you on exams.
I think Dr. Limeri means well, but she would be better suited to teach kindergarten than a college course. Her lectures do not present any information that actually shows up on the test which can be frustrating as participation is mandatory. She also makes assignments where you have to use her study methods even though they don't work for all.
Limeri has been frustrating this semester. From her confusing tests to her useless lectures (that are mandatory), this class was unbearable. She fills the course with busy work and she makes assignments where you are required to use her study methods which no one actually ever uses. Take the course at a community college if you can.
Dr. Limeri is not a good professor. During her lectures, she likes to go over useless case studies that have almost nothing to do with what we're learning. She also forces students to use her own study techniques, which have all proven to be ineffective for me. Her exams are designed to be tricky, and her mandatory lectures are no help at all.
She is one of the worst professors I have ever had. She does not teach any really useful information in class and going to class is virtually pointless. I am also not the only one who feels this way, as the majority of the people I have talked to have said the same thing. She is also rude on occasion in class and sends some mean emails.
She is extremely unhelpful. We do only go through case studies that have nothing to do with what we're learning and take up bulk of the lecture. Lectures are mandatory and can really add up against your grade although lectures are virtually extremely pointless and unenjoyable.
She is a nice person, but an awful professor. She structures her lectures around slides and using TopHat, I genuinely have learned nothing from her lectures and feels like a waste of time. I spend hours on end learning the content for the exam for them to be confusing and tricky. Everyone who I have talked to about this class struggles, be aware.
This professor is not good. Her lectures are mandatory but not helpful. She mainly talks about case studies and content that are not on the exam. She makes the exams super tricky.
Her class is alright. She seems like a nice person but she only really cares about her study methods and research being applied in class. Theres so much homework its probably impossible to fail the class as long as you do like 90% of that and participate on TopHat. The tests are all insanely difficult compared to the material so good luck.
Dr. Limeri is the worst professor that I have ever had. Her lectures are pointless and provide no valuable information. She loves to make her exams difficult and tricky. She will give so much pointless information throughout the lecture which make understanding the content difficult. be aware to teach yourself. She cares about attendance too much
The lecture was useless as most of the time was spent answering meaningless questions or drawing diagrams that weren't on the test. The study guides provided only covered about half of what was going to be on the test and the test itself seemed more worried about tricking you than actually testing your knowledge.
Dr. Limeri is rude over emails and in person. Her exams are worded to trick you and is not helpful when you ask for help. She assigns a lot of homework with no extra credit.
Take the CLEP.
Literally do not take this professor. The lectures are not helpful at all and are simplified versions of what she gives you on tests. She gives retake opportunities but if you do worse on those you will only get the retake grade. You pretty much teach yourself the information because lectures are simplified versions of what you get on tests.
Do not take this professor Her teaching skills are poor, just repeats what's said in textbook modules. Her class is lecture heavy yet lectures don't reflect the exam material. A raffle/lottery system is for extra credit, nothing else. Retests are allowed but if you score lower it'll be the grade you receive.
Ineffective teacher and probably one of the least engaging classes I have taken here at tech. It REALLY takes someone to make biology this uninteresting and class feel like a drag with mandatory attendance, yet the lectures were completely useless. Waste of time and money and I am sure no one took anything useful from this class. Disappointing, TTU
This class is possibly one of the easiest classes I have taken at college. Do the homework, take notes outside of class, and pay attention in class and you will get an A. Most people are on their phone during class and don't take notes over the homework modules which is why they do so poorly. She teaches with an active learning environment.
I actually hate her. Worst person ever. Doesn't really care about her students, just about her "research"
This class was very hard for me. I studied SO much for the exams and would still be disappointed with my scores. There were lots of random assignments that were easy to miss because you werent told until the week of. Class was also mandatory. When i met with her she was helpful but this material on the tests was so hard and very confusing wording.
This class was definitely the hardest class I have ever taken in my life. Honestly I probably could have not went to the lectures and still made the same B in the class. If I had to choose between a ham sandwich and her I would probably choose the ham sandwich because I would at least get something out of it. The tests are extremely hard.
Wow what a joke of a class.... don't expect to learn anything useful
She was very nice, but wanted everything to be done her way. She wanted us to create concept maps or make one minute sketches. They didn't help me at all and they were just busy work. Her powerpoints in class were just copied and pasted from Khan Academy. Her exams were also worded badly. I wouldn't take her class again.
Dr. Limeri uses TopHat and is very peculiar on you being present in the lectures if not, you lose points. Tests are straightforward concepts especially if you do the reviews, but the questions are worded weirdly. Some of her lectures can be a complete waste of time as she covers case studies that have nothing to do with upcoming test material.
Dr Limeri's class was not difficult at all. There were a lot of assignments, but the tests were easy if you read the textbook and did her practice questions. Her lectures were clear and she was nice when you needed help. Recommended!
Limeri is still disappointing. The exam structure has been improved to be less confusing but that could be due to the addition of a co-professor who picks up her slack. Lectures are still generally useless and she still makes you prove you are studying with her preferred study methods. Slight improvement but still avoid this professor if you can.
Lisa would be an amazing middle school teacher. She wants everything to be done in her way exactly (including mandatory pointless studying that doesn't work with probably anyone else) and this entire course is like her experiment on the most effective way to teach Introductory Biology. Safe to say she hasn't succeeded. The reviews clearly show that
Egotistical, prideful, and incredibly unhelpful. Her lectures are utterly useless, which is probably why she's so strict about attendance, having multiple attendance questions throughout the class. Her pride couldn't handle class turnout when everyone realizes Codon is a better professor. Requires college students to study her particular way.
One of the easier classes I've taken at Tech. Plenty of homework to do and there are test reviews. Just do all of that stuff and you should be fine.
Dr. Limeri is an amazing professor! I would 100% take another class of hers and recommend her to anyone seeking a life science degree. She devotes a lot of time and energy to lectures, so make sure to be there most of the time. Read test questions very carefully, and pay attention to the slides she uploads as they are likely to be on exams.
This was my second semester with Dr.L and she honestly got better. She implemented the feedback we gave her last semester and changed her course. There is lots of homework to cushion your grade and she drops a bunch of low grades too. Good lecturer and pretty simple tests once you get used to them. I'd definitely take her again if I could.
Attendance was required, however I was able to understand all of the course material from the textbook alone. Exams were full of errors that were later walked back on. Overall, I felt as though I was treated as a highschooler in this course, and the professors acted as high school teachers. Dr. Reid was the co-professor and was no better.
Once Dr. Limeri started to use codon, the class got a lot better. It was impossible for people to get a grade higher than a B for BIOL 1403, but BIOL 1404 was much better. Tests consisted with many trick questions and are only 25 questions long. She allows test retakes, but the biology labs will most likely bring your lecture grade lower.
Dr. Limeri is an OK professor. 90% of the content of this class was taught in AP Biology in high school. She splits half the semester with Dr. Reid. Dr. Reid is not any better. He is a nice guy, but on many occasions he has given out incorrect information during lectures. Exams written by both are generally poorly written. Study Codon questions.
It's delusional to expect this course to get you through the MCAT when the curriculum is no higher than a high school course. Lecture topics dictated by her personal interests, not relevance of topics. Really just too easy. Also just a wet sock of a person. Condescending if you ask questions.
Dr. Limeri is my favorite professor. She is so caring and truly wants her students to learn. Everything she does with the class, she does for a reason that is for our betterment. She explains concepts very well, really emphasizes active learning and the learning assistants were helpful too. The course is great for mastering core MCAT topics.
If you need to take the MCAT, take her class! Just kidding, biology is hard in general.
Class was alright. Not a hard class, but kind of confusing at times. I think it was just not my style of learning, however still got through. Kind of a hassle with assignments, but not an incredible amount to complain about. Kind of a meh class but it wasn't bad.
Compared to her teaching associate Dr. Reid, Dr. Limeri does not compare whatsoever. Her lectures are less engaging, she is passive aggressive, and she doesn't seem to care about the students. Unlike Reid, she does not seem to be engaged or to care about the topic at hand. She would probably be better suited teaching a higher level class.
This class was okay. I think the codon setup is beneficial to students. The lab was the biggest drag of this course. It had nothing to do with the lecture and was poorly designed. I think you can be successful in the course, but it may be frustrating at times when it feels like the course is working against you rather than for you. Good luck!
Lemeri is the only professor for 1403 with her assistant Dr. Reid who isnt any better, so theres no avoiding her class unless your an honors student. SI sessions were the only reason I was able to pass the test, which are made up of questions that are worded horribly. Overall a horrible prof, not a bad person herself but she shouldnt be teaching
This is by far the worst class I have taken at Tech and I've taken physics with little math background and applied ex phys. The exams are NOTHING like the lectures. Lectures are not engaging. The "talk to your neighbor" was super childish and ineffective. Both profs are terrible. Get ready to never learn from lectures and only from other sources.
The class felt all over the place, sometimes lectures related to the readings but other times it was totally different. 25% of the grade is homework and in-class questions which are basically free points. Do well in the lab and you can have some wiggle room for the exams. Study the previous exams and you can easily ace the final
Attendance policy is fairly obnoxious, tests can be all over the place in comparison with the practice tests. Strange amount of homework that is easy, but just as easy to forget and tank your grade.
Dr Limeri is a terrible professor who is unreasonable in real life and during exams. The amount of SASS this human exhibits needs to be studied. Her research lies in student learning and the student body is the experiment. No student should feel like their future relies on the "treatment" she has chosen to conduct. She degrades mental stability.
The class is kind of difficult, but if you talk to her and make sure to keep up with the homework, she is very forgiving and kind.
She is a really good professor and I really liked her. Unfortunately, she only teaches half of the semester, and the person who teaches the other half, Dr. Reid, is horrible,
Great professor! There is a lot of homework and reading to be done. Study the slides she presents in the lecture and you'll be fine!
Contrary to the many complaints resulting from a lack of preparation, I hope to give an actual review. The class content is simple, however the questions can be confusing at times because the professors do not *really* give great learning objectives. The class is too general, and has to be supplemented for MCAT study. Out of 10; Dr L 7 Dr Reid 3.
Absolute waste of time. Makes you buy a $50 application for 3 assignments that have very little correlation to the class. The labs were a waste of time. She is very inconsiderate. Just do the extra credit essay and pray you have a normal lab TA that isnt egotistic and yaps. She micromanages with Tophat and codon questions. THis class is ridiculous
Limeri is one of the worst professor I have ever experienced in my life time. The amount of disrespect and sass this woman gives off, it is impressive no one has given the same energy back. At TTU I have never met someone rude until I walked into that lecture hall with Sassy Limeri. Once she starts teaching, its horrible.
I learned so little from this class. She just does not do a good job of explaining the material, and the exams do not represent what we learned in class. I hated every minute of being in her class.
The course material itself is simple, but her exams feel so intentionally misleading. I truly do feel like she did not prepare us for the caliber of exam questions with the homework. Generally easy course content was made confusing. And she was just generally rude and unapproachable as a person which made it that much worse.
I was having problems with Codon, and my tutor pointed out the practice tests were supposed to be locked and they weren't for me. I emailed her immediately about it, and she blamed it all on me and said she would drop one of the lowest homework grades at the end on the semester(I had 100 on all) literally doesn't care about anyone at all.
This class was actually way easier than what I expected. The lecture portion of biology is honestly really chill as long as you attend class, pay attention really hard to what they say, and do all the assignments. Definitely attend SI sessions and use codon for exam prep. All I have to say is good luck with lab, bio labs absolutely suck.
DO NOT TAKE HER! WORST BIOLOGY PROFESSOR EVER... I took 1403 and 1404 with her, and it was awful. If you love grades do not take her , so many assignments with none that really concerns the exam. total of 5 exams with 20 questions each and final with 60 , mcq.
Dr. Limeri assigns a pre-class assignment for every lecture and attendance is mandatory. Overall, the tests are pretty easy if you just pay attention and read the textbook. I wish they would focus 1404 more on anatomy/physiology instead of evolution and ecology, but they give you so many resources to get an A in the class.
The content itself is not difficult to understand. However, nothing covered in the mandatory lectures are on the test. Also, when I asked prof for help on material because I was out of class for 2 weeks due to health reasons she rambled on abt the effectiveness of concept maps and was overall rude. Don't recommend lol.
Dr. Limeri cares about teaching and is passionate about what she does. The class is easy, and she gives you so many resources to succeed. There is no excuse for failing. Idk why the reviews are bad. Yes, she can be a little rude, but that is only because students have been so rude to her so many times in the past. Overall, decent class.
Did a review for BIO 1403, and had her again this semester for 1404. She was a lot nicer this semester, but overall, she just doesn't explain content well. Overall, just don't take it in person if you don't have to. Will update once the course is complete.
Honestly one of the worst professors I've taken at tech. Her attitude is horrible and sends very passive aggressive emailed responses to simple questions. She does not accommodate at all and is genuinely just so annoying to listen to. Reid should've taught this entire class but no they had to bring her in for half of it.
I heard lots of things about Limeri before taking her class, but after taking it, it's all true! She does not accommodate students. She also yelled at our Bio SI so she quit, she's very passive aggressive. I would avoid talking to her unless you HAVE to. Also read the textbook (They wrote it, and pull things from it on tests not covered in lecture)
does not communicate well with students. horrible at explaining extra credit and will nit pick anything to find a reason for you to not pass. will not recommend if you want a good biology experience. goes as far as calling you out for the dumbest reasons possible when half the class does the exact same thing.
Not a hard class- do the Codon practice questions, lock in for labs (ESPECIALLY the practicals), and you'll walk out with an A. Attendance policies are all over the place, and I've heard things about her not being very accessible during office hours, but not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be.
Significant amount of homework but it helps in the long run. Sometimes overcomplicates things during lectures and has complicated test questions. Overall good professor
free class. annoying professor, so many assignments. easy lecture, labs annoying. lock in on the labs. do the codon questions, and read the textbook.
This class has homework everyday. Exams (and content) are VERY easy (only multiple choice). Hardest part is understanding what they want for questions because she does struggle with writing clear questions imo. She is very difficult to work with in my experience (very sarcastic/passive-aggressive), but you shouldn't have to deal with her often.
Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of biology professors, so usually taking Dr. Limeri's class is the way to go. She's not the best and isn't very nice in her emails. She also doesn't write her exams well, so prepare to be assessed on your English comprehension as well as your knowledge of biology. She also blames you if you did bad on her exams.
SHE'S MEAN AND CANNOT TEACH The class isn't hard, but be prepared to teach yourself And she has an attitude too If you have a choice choose a different professor!! SHE CANNOT TEACH
Can not teach be prepared to learn everything yourself wish TTU had another option for a biology professor because she sucks and is very rude especially if you disagree with her teaching style.
Mrs. Limeri taught with Mr. Reid. They both took a high school codon approach. They both struggled to answer basic questions in class.
Biggest thing I tell people when they say they have biology with Prof. Limeri is "its a biology class, its going to be difficult." While this course is difficult, I think she does her best to give her students tools to learn. I definitely didn't have to go above and beyond to get an A in this class, I just had to complete everything I had to.
