She is a nice lady but a really bad teacher. She can't explain things well at all and she says "Okay?" after almost every word, very distracting. There is 4 easy homeworks and 3 tests. She makes you copy alot of notes off slides and talkes while your writing so it is hard to listen and write. She doesn't seem like she knows what she is talking about.
Very good lectures. Uses power point, handouts, impressive lectures! She wasn't boring, and helps her students alot. Test and Homework are moderate. It wasn't and easy A but also not impossible to pass the class.
Having come from UCLA, I was quite impressed with her class; I felt right at home. She wastes no time gibbering - goes straight into lecture using Power Point and explains while u quickly jot down everything, so u gotta be able to multi-task in order to keep up. Material itself isn't all that great, homework is manageable, exams are fair.
I loved this teacher! You can tell she's really interested in the subject and the class is really well organized. She has a great personality and is really laid back. I would recommend her to anyone. She's very entertaining and funny!
Very sweet teacher. Made class very fun with her lectures. Very organised. If you go to class and take notes and do the few assignment that are assigned you will be fine.
She is a good teacher, everything is explained very clearly. You take notes from her power point presentations or sometimes slides. Her one falw is that she goes through it fast so you have to write quickly to keep up. She made her class interesting and is funny. Assignments and tests are all reasonable. Not too much homework.
Great teacher and explains the course very well! I totally loved this class and it made me very interested in the world around me. It was just great. She's pretty easy in the summer. Not too much homework and the homework is pretty interesting also. There are quizzes and they're not too bad. Everyone will love this class. Its the best!!
Great professor! Her online class is easy. Read the book, take online quizzes and don't flake on the weekly postings and you'll do fine. Her tests are fair. One of the best classes I've taken. Her online course is the most like an in-class I've ever taken. The postings help you see where you place in the class. I like it better than being in class.
Took her Cultural Anthropology class over the summer and ACED it with ease. She has a fantastic personality and her lectures are incredibly organized and entertaining! Loved the subject and would defintiely consider taking Physical Anthropology with her soon.
Her tests are really hard! However, she is really nice and EXTREMELY helpful if you mess up. Plus, she provides extra credit (online class)
Took her for Cultural Anthropology. Really amusing and funny. She tests from both the book and her lectures.
Her tests are REALLY hard, and she tries to trick you on them. Otherwise, she's pretty good, although she's not very nice and doesn't seem to like students very much. DON'T be late for class. Do the extra credit paper because the tests are hard to get As on.
She is the best teacher by far! The homework's are really easy and short. Her classes are extremely interesting even if you don't care about the subject. The tests are not hard as long if you just read the chapters and the notes. She even gives you the essay questions prior to the test. Gives tons of extra credit opportunity. Take her lab class 2!
I loved this class! I took her for my online summer class for 5 weeks and got an A! There isn't that much work just make sure you do it! The assignments are pretty easy and I ended up really loving this class. Take her!
Very SWEET TEACHER!!!She is very nice and funny. I had her for another class before and I dont regret taking her twice. YOU WILL LEARN AND ENJOY HER CLASS. She make the class fun and interesting.
Really fun & interesting class! I took her online class & really enjoyed it. She is very fair and helpful. Highly recommended!
The lab class is well organized, and her instructions are clear, but this subject challenging. Malley is a great professor though. The good news about lab is that there is virtually no homework (except for the zoo project). The bad news is that there is a LOT of work to do. Too much! Lab either needs to upped to a 3 credit class or the workload needs to be way toned down.
I agree with some of the people, her class is interesting, but she can't teach very well. She lectures while you copy the power points making it harder to write valuable information. her tests are hard, seems like the notes she gives arent relevant material to the test. she is a mediocre teacher at best.
She is a good teacher, and I learned a lot from her lectures (although they are strictly power point), but she does make her point across. She is hard to get a hold of via email, but she's there if you need help. Her tests are hard, but do the extra credit opportunity at the end of the year. I got an A in her class thanks to this!
Miss one lab: Impossible to get an A (Points-wise), seriously. She brought my dream 4.0 to a 3.93 with her mandatory attendance. It's THE MOST WORK YOU WILL EVER DO FOR ONE UNIT!!! Do the chapter book work before class, let your group copy, and you will be out of class in no time.
if you want to get a good grade, you have to show up and you have to read the book. she is not excessively difficult and passing is definitely possible. to get an A however requires that you actually study. she seriously wants the students to have fun during lectures and the more input the more fun and less tense the class will be.
Very helpful, interesting! A great professor. Very fair and understanding!
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. I am shocked so many people seem to like her. She was a nice person, but assigned an insane amount of work for a one unit class. If you aren't interested in Anthropology, I would highly suggest not taking her.
She is okay. I found the class to be pretty easy, and the test weren't that bad, the lowest I got was an 81. She's clear with what has to be done to do well in the class. She only gave 4 hw assignments, so make sure to do them. Final wasn't cumulative and gives an extra credit opportunity at the end which I recommend.
Took her for lab anthropology wayyyyy to much work for only one unit two test are take. Midterm an final. Your class grade is basically the labs though those r easy overal decent teacher you have to do work or you will not pass her class!!
I liked her, she was interesting and funny, but has an odd sense of humor. She went off powerpoint and expected you to read the book. Her tests were hard but it wasn't that bad if you studied.
She is a great teacher, but she does have an odd sense of humor; a little off. She is quite easy. Very little work to be done and the exams are easy. She lectures the entire class time, which actually goes by fast, but there is little class interaction. She is very aware that some just need a science credit so she keeps the class simple.
Took her lab class, a lot of work, but nothing that's not manageable. Only real hw assignment is the zoo report which is super easy. Only had a midterm and final. Fun professor and tells you exactly what she's looking for in your work and on the tests
Overall nice but weird sense of humor at times, class was really easy-most of info on tests was off Powerpoint. Lectured all thruout class period but she made everything super intersting! Offered study sessions b4 class &was very direct w/ wat was expectd on exams. Only 4tests and each was only on evry 3 or 4 chpts! :)No Final or midterm! =D
Terrible at communicating in the online class. Takes forever to respond and doesn't answer clearly. Not helpful at all.
Took online class over the summer. Very slow to post grades for assigned work and slow to respond to any questions you may have. Often said she would post items that would help with material but never actually did. Don't know how many students she had, but got the feeling she had little interest in teaching this course.
I took her online Anthro 103 class, the professor was extremely specific on what needed to be done, the classwork was extremely easy to do, the papers weren't hard at all, and the tests were based off of the book. There are ALOT of extra credit opportunities... if you need Anthro 103, I would recommend taking Malley's class in an instant.
Great experience with my first online class. The extra credit helped alot. She graded on a curve which help me to go from a high B to an A.
I really enjoyed taking Professor Malley's class. She is really passionate about anthropology. She is a great teacher because she uses examples from everyday life to explain concepts. Also, she usually lets you use a blue sheet with clues and answers for the tests. This class requires effort but if you read and study, you will enjoy the class!!
I have taken all of my anthropology classes with her. She is a really good teacher, makes class interesting, is very clear about material. She also gives great lecture notes. For the lectures she even tells you which sections in the book you need to read or can skip!
favorite teacher! makes class enjoyable and made anthropology interesting. tests are easy, she mostly uses stuff from the notes she gives you but you do have to read your book. easy A if you put in some effort
Took her class online over summer session. It was very consistent. Each week you do 2 discussion board posts (at least 100 words), 4 replies, and either an analysis assignment or quiz. 3 analysis assignments and 4 quizzes total. No midterm, no final, no official essay. Extra credit every week. Only needed book for quizzes. Very lenient grader!
Such a funny and interesting professor. Her lectures were always interesting and enjoyable. She doesn't assign much homework and offers extra credit. I strongly recommend her.
Ms. Malley is a great teacher. Shes really funny, and her lectures are short and to the point. You will work exclusively with your group, and there is no hw. There are two tests, and a Zoo report. I recommend you go with the class to the zoo so you can ask questions. The book is necessary for the lab work.
Malley is great - very quirky and funny, and also very clear and easy to understand re: the material. Textbook needs to be brought to all class meetings, or you'll lose points on the lab. She doesn't take attendance, but if you miss a meeting, you miss a lab. 2 tests (midterm and final), one zoo report, and a lab each week. Easy.
I love Professor Malley! She makes her lectures really fun and I'm never bored in class. Her class is pretty easy and consisted of unit tests. There is no final or midterm, but there is a book report and project, which she grades really easily as well.
Malley was so full of energy! this was the one class i tried my hardest not to miss. The lectures in class were so engaging and entertaining. The class was also fairly easy and she was very helpful to whoever needed help. I definitely recommend anyone to have her as a professor.
Esther is one of the best professors I have ever had. She is clear and concise which makes the material easier to take in and understand. The discussions are both educational and entertaining. The material covered was not very difficult but she puts it into context for you, making it relative. Tests are not hard because she prepares you for them.
She is very interactive and really gets you awake. I loved her class, pay attention and study and you will do fine. She give extra credit opportunities as well. Great teacher, would take her again.
Professor Malley is a dynamic teacher. She is entertaining and gives great notes. She is passionate and made learning about Anthropology fun. Don't expect her to be your friend outside of class and can be really sarcastic if you have a question she views as stupid. However, I did enjoy her class tremendously. Make sure you are there to take notes!
Professor Malley is amazing!! She has so much life & character in her, which definitely shows throughout her lectures & in her class, in general. Her class is generally easy as long as you attend class & take lots of notes. Write down everything she says & you will do well. She offers a good amount of extra credit! 10/10 would recommend to anyone.
you need to read + pay attention in lecture to pass her class. doesn't post lectures online at all. Tests are tough since they are so expansive and the chapters are a bit long. Funny lectures tho! THAT BEING SAID, there's loads of extra credit opportunities that are ACTUALLY FUN! xtra credit test questions and so many chances. TAKE THEM
I passed Anthro 101 this semester with a B (lots of reading/memorizing), but this Anthro Lab was unexpectedly harder! The teacher is entertaining but the work/study load is unnecessary, especially if you're a student who is working/supporting themselves. Wouldn't recommend it unless you live at home. Also, a very time-consuming zoo trip. Big regret
Very funny teacher! Lectures were long, but interesting. She gives 50 extra credit points!! She cares about her students.
I took Ms. Malley's Anthropology class online. I loved her as a person, and her fun personality really gave the dry material some life. However, I didn't care for the course material so it made the class kind of a drag. However she was very gracious about scheduling and about giving LOTS of extra credit! Definitely do the extra credit.
Took on campus in Fall, was a great lecture based class. Very friendly classroom environment, teacher clearly liked the subject matter which made the discussions interesting. Funny lectures. If you read some of the chapters and pay attention in class and it is a very easy A. I recommend this professor.
good class and interesting but man is this woman LOUD and sometimes rude.
At the beginning of class you are assigned a group for which you must remain in the entirety of the course. This was frustrating because you can't leave until your entire group has finished an assignment. The lab manual is expensive and you only you a total of like 30 pages, but you can't buy used. She is sarcastic but you get to go to the zoo so..
She's amazing. She takes long lectures and makes them fun just because she's so passionate about Anthropology. Had her for 2 online classes and an on campus class and I've got nothing but great things to say about her! She gives study guides that tell you exactly what to focus on, and her tests aren't cumulative. Amazing. Be present for lectures!
A bit condescending. She has this loud bubbly personality but it seems pretty fake once you talk to her. Most questions you ask her will be met with "Weren't you listening?" But you probably won't be able to ask a question because she will have disappeared. She also gives an excessive amount of work every class that will usually keep you late.
Okay she is really hard on her students, her tests are difficult and she gives too many in class assignments!! Like we spend almost 3 hours doing in class. I would NOT recommend her at all.
Prof Malley knows how to turn not-so-interesting material into something interesting. Her effervescent personality keeps you intrigued all class period. Her lecture notes are very helpful when it comes to studying for tests, but you will have to study from the textbook, too, with the study guide she provides you before every test. Highly recommend!
Very bad teaching method. Lecture depends on the entirety of the class writing down her complex PowerPoints. She does not post them online so you must try to figure out what they mean while writing them down. She tries to explain while you write them down, yet can't focus on her because you're too busy trying to decipher what her notes mean.
This class was great, the material was super interesting. There's only three homework assignments and three tests throughout the whole semester, so if you don't do well on those it's hard to bump your grade. Definitely do the extra credit because it will make or break your grade. Attendance isn't mandatory but it's the only way to get the notes
She was overall a good professor. You can tell that she enjoys the subject, but she is a little difficult to understand since she teaches from the perspective of someone who has been doing this for years and will forget to mention the small things
She is a nice professor, I love the subject and she made it even more fun. She does though requires that you BUY the HARD COPY of the textbook, and she doesn't care if you can't afford or get a hold of it. She doesn't understand when life happens and you need to turn in something late. Other than that I loved her lectures and humor.
So entertaining. Entire grade is 3 tests and 3 papers and extra credit. Do extra credit! Study for the tests and show up every day. I didn't buy the book but on study guides she tells you what comes from the book and you don't go over it in class so if you don't have the book research it online, but the book helps. So much fun and I learned a lot.
The material itself is not hard to understand. Grading criteria is clear and she does give extra credit. However as a person she can be pretty condescending and gets upset when you ask her questions. She will make you feel dumb just to make sure you know you're wrong. Her funny attitude is just a fake face she puts up. Overall a not so good experi
I loved taking her class! You do need to buy the textbook as she doesn't cover all of the information that will be on her tests, but she provides a study guide so that you know what you need to read yourself. She made it so fun and she's absolutely hilarious. I recommend her EC trips, but if you do the temple trip, there was a lot of traffic to go.
Shes a very nice lady and knows her stuff. The only problem I had was the tests were hard and thats the only thing she grades off of. She offers extra credit but not a lot if you arent doing well on the tests. You really have to work for your grade. I would say dont take her if youre looking for an easy A.
I love her class & u can tell that she really enjoys anthro. but her tests are hard & that's where most of your grade comes from. She doesn't spend time w/ the class to review for the tests, just gives you a study guide tell's you what subjects to study. She does give extra credit so do them if you're failing her tests.
If you have the option to take this lab AND lecture with another professor, do it. 80% of the class complained about her in both the lecture and lab. Shes not a very nice person and she teases people in front of the class when they ask a question. She doesnt help whatsoever, and her lectures make no sense. Honestly wouldnt recommend her.
cares and wants you to pass. no homework but lots of work in class. If you don't show up you won't pass
I took her Archaeology class. She has a specific sense of humor that you'll either like or you won't. Only 3 homework assignments but her tests are hard. You HAVE to read the book to pass the tests, just reviewing lecture notes won't get you far. She doesn't bump grades, but offers extra credit that will help a lot. Not an "easy A" class.
She hangs out in the other room pretty much the entire class time, doesn't really like to teach. Will yell at you and ask how it's her problem when you come up to her with a question. The epitome of "sounds like a YOU problem". It's anthropology though, easy class, easy A, just take a different prof if you value common sense and basic manners.
took her classes for anthro 101L and archaeology, I am already interested in the subject so I'm a little biased but she made the class fun and I miss it. I did have a little trouble with the anthro 101L because it's a lot of memorization but she's one of the best professors I had during my 3 years at COC.
Her class was the first class I took in college not knowing what to expect. It definitely was work but I had just come back from taking a semester off. The field trip at the end to the Budist Temple was super fun and she allowed me to bring some of my friends who weren't in the class. Would definitely take again, she is is an awesome professor!
This professor says she wants people to speak up but only takes answers and stories from the favorite student. I am taking this class to graduate otherwise I would just quit. We have a slower student and she disregards almost everything they say and she also is two months in and has only graded one assignment.
Professor Malley is the kind of teacher who loves what she does - she has a clear passion for what she teaches and it shows. She gives many opportunities for extra credit and is for the most part a clear grader - quick to respond to emails and always has an upbeat attitude. Treats each student kindly and tries to involve everyone at each meeting.
Seems very passionate and was happy to help. The only issue was that most of the class was just doing a workbook. It is my only lab class so I am not sure if that's what it's supposed to be but it was boring.
I took her lab and it was amazing. Went in person only once a week and you get no homework. The work is easy and you can do all of it in groups. The professor was very nice and very helpful if you have any questions. I definitely recommend her if you plan on taking AnthroLab. Must buy the textbook. Only 2 tests in total which are open note/book.
She only gives two homework assignments for this class but they are more like projects, also she does not accept late work. Weekly quizzes but they are super easy and the exams aren't that hard either. Very nice professor, would take again.
Incredibly kind teache
Just took her Anthro 105 and Anthro 101LAB. She is hands down my favorite teacher I've had. She always makes the lectures fun, funny, and interesting. You're expected in this class to keep up on reading and if you do that you won't have a problem and will have a great semester.
Really good professor. Labs are very straight forward, mainly answering worksheet questions and identifying objects in person. Is very lenient on late work, and allows for labs to be submitted up to one week late for full credit. Lectures are solid, and gives out notes and more in depth notes if you talk to her. Midterm and Final are open note.
I had Prof. Malley for Antro Lab, and I really disliked it mainly because it was so long (That isn't her fault though), but she was great; I wish I could have taken Antro 101 with her because she was a fun professor.
She gives lots of opportunity for extra credit and does her best to make the class fun. Her lectures are very lively and overall I feel she's a great professor. Tests are open book/ open notes, which was awesome! Her class was pretty simple, just make sure to show up to class to be able to take notes (note heavy).
This was a very easy class for a lab requirement. It was once a week and no homework. All tests and final were open book open note. All of the work was done in groups during class and you even take a field trip to the zoo to write a report.
I've taken two of her courses and she's amazing- class is fun and interesting :) Workload and projects are super minimal and manage (some were even fun)! She allows for open book/notes on exams, so notes are super important. Overall, she's a great professor and the classes are engaging and the work is pretty easy :)
Great professor, can't recommend her enough! Classwork is all in groups and has only two tests. Tests are open book open note. Has a field trip to the LA Zoo towards the end of the semester as part of the final project.
Dr. Malley is an enthusiastic, vivacious, and anthropology-loving professor. Because she always made an effort to infuse the classroom with high energy, her lectures were simple and engaging to listen to. Her artifact project is a lot of fun if you know how to make things by hand! I wholeheartedly recommend her because she is the best!
Good with lectures. Sometimes aggressive with responses but pretty good class and can pass as long as you do the work. Not the most understanding with personal situations though. Caused me a lot of anxiety with a test situation I had and was very rude about it.
