terrific math teacher! british accent, sweet lady, very very good teacher. she lays a very good foundation for math 101 and 105 and also teaches finite and discreet math. i would take her for all math courses!!!
Not very kind and very conceded and stuck up. Terrible teacher.
Too easy. When you´re into math take Edwin Njinimbam.
She's hard.. i am serious, if u wanna take him then... too bad
really nice but her test was totally different from teh hw
Discrete math is a hard subject.
My favorite math teacher at De Anza. Lectures are clear and organized. She gives plenty of time to finish exams. She is helpful and encouraging outside of class. And her soothing British accent makes even my most loathed subject tolerable.
Lisa is a great teacher. She's very helpful and clear. She makes sure you fully understand the material. She helps you out on quizes to make sure you get 100%. The group quizes are a plus.
Great Teacher, makes sure u understand everything before you move on. Makes up her own questions on test, but not too difficult! Highly recommended!
Challenging, but Ms. Markus is super nice! She helps the material to seem less intimidating, and she will answer all your Q's. Quizes every day (in groups) and you can use a sheet of notes for each test.
She is a very nice lady. Her group quizzes are hard. However, her tests are really hard. The people who do well on her exams are the people who click with the subject. If you don't, then prepare to visit her a lot in her office hours.
She comes off as arrogant but when you talk to her personally she is extremely nice!!! There are times where you have to go to her office hours but all of your q's are quickly cleared up.
The tests were hard, and she is a picky grader. Her teaching style is very rudimentary, so it makes the subject seem easy. However, they don't prepare you. She is a nice person, and she knows what she's talking about. People who click with math do well.
have quiz every class, and her tests are difficult...
Wonderful lady.....I enjoyed taking her class....not too hard, not too easy...just good
i heard more than half the class had to leave 8 weeks into the quater with a "W" the people leaving feedback here must've been the ones who stayed.
She doesn't teach so much as just talk. Her lectures aren't very interactive and it seemed that everything she said just sort of flew over my head. Also, she is an extremely picky grader on tests, and those 5+ points she knocks off hurt you later on.
She's a great and nice teacher, I think. Her lecture is quite organized and guide us step by step. I had not known anything in 1C before, but she helped me a lot and i felt very confident when going to the exams. Best Math teacher I every had.
She is very clear, but unhelpful for you to get an A.For most people here who support Lisa, who must just recieved a C,and they are satisfied with it.I don't care what I will learn from the course,I just care about my grade. An A only!!!
She was an excellent instructor. Explained everything very clearly and was very helpful. I would take her class again if given the chance.
I admit that I'm not good at math but Markus does a poor job of presenting the material. Her voice is better suited for lulling you to sleep. No enthusiasm makes the topic seem even less interesting.
She was an aWesome instructor... always there when you need help. Also, she let us take quizzes in groups and she always helped us if we got stuck. SUPER helpful... I got an A and I hate math!!
I was depressed about Calc before this class-I got a D in 1A. Lisa was so great & even helped me get a tutor. She is always approachable & there in office hrs. She is a tough grader, but you're prepared for exams.I ended up going into the final with a 96%
The fact that she smiles like 24/7 makes me happy as well. Math is boring subject but for some reason i didn't get bored in her class. she has a cool accent and what I like about her is that she is very clear and very very helpful. BE WARNED... ask questions b4 test RECOMMENDED
I LOVE HER ACCENT!YET SHE IS NOT THAT EASY THIS TEACHER IS SOO PICKY SO DONT MAKE ANY MISTAKES! I MEAN PICKY SHE WILL TAKE OFF ALOT OF POINTS FOR STUPID MISTAKES!IF YOU DO THE HWK AND UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL U WILL BE OKAY. hER EXAMS CAN BE FAIR BUT AT THE SAME TIME PRETTY DIFFICULT MATH 1B IS NOT THAT EASY U MUST KNOW WHAT U ARE DOING TO PASS.
Great teacher.Very clear lecture and group work quiz! Her class is interesting and very helpful. I almost don't do the homework just listen in class and still got A. Her exam is tough but you will practice it on quiz before. Very good MATH instructor. High recommend.
Dr. Markus is a great teacher. She explain the material well. Her test are not that hard at all. However, she is kinda picky on her grading. It's not hard to get a good grade on tests if you do her hw. Plus she offer some extra credit on each test, which is cool.
I love her English accent !!! She's extremely helpful and approachable. Tests are sometimes hard, but still doable, just be sure you have a good foundation in algebra. Her lecture is really clear and understandable. Group quizes. Highly recommend !!!
She is awesome. Very clear lecture and really help student a lot. Really really worth to take her class. I got A in her class.
Easy to understand. Go over all possible examples of each chapter thoroughly. One paper of note for each exam, quiz and two for final.six lab and two project. her tests are kind of easy, but getting harder. I like her! Kind and Nice!!! recommend her!
clear, helpful, easy as long as u keep up with your work.....Highly Recomanded
She is fully prepared to teach. Makes concepts easy to understand. Besides the English accent, dialogue delivery is kind of .... irritating at times. But overall good for the student
The subject is difficult, but she is a very good instructor and a nice person. She will lecture for the entire time, you will be so busy writing notes, and you will not even know who the other students are in the class. Still take her class, even if you do poorly on the tests, you can still get a B, because of all of the labs, etc.
Very enthusiastic instructor. Very approachable and helpful. Makes the subject appear easy but be warned, you HAVE to do the homework to do well in tests and quizzes. Take her for any math class; you will learn and she is not difficult. Cute British accent, smiles all the time but will take points off if you don't use a ruler...!
In contrast to other posts, you do not have to do the homework to do well on the tests and quizes. I never did the homework and excelled on both the tests and quizes. Class is pretty easy as long as you turn everything in on time. Got an A :)
She is nice and her class is easy A, but if you really want to learn take another teacher
Pleasant british accent. She's good to take if you're a visual learner. She writes very neat and uses different ink colors (very helpful!) She cares about your input. One caution- She grades really weird on test. She takes off a lot of points for the tedious and annoying things on tests. No HW. She drop lowest test scores. I hate math but passed!
Professor Markus is a really nice teacher. I am a panic freak and sent her several emails regarding things I was confused about from the chapters and her response was prompt and very helpful. I just came from her office hours. I had a few questions but was still out in less than 5 min. She was very clear and straight to the point
she is really good at simplifying the material, and everything is really easy to understand. the only complaint i have about her is that her exams are extremely different than the homework or quizzes she gives. like 180degrees different. and they're ridiculously hard. i would literally ace everything and then get Cs on her exams.
Shes nice, office hours were helpful, emailing her was helpful when had a question. class was a hybrid class, so 1 day a week and work online wasnt great. everything was easy but the exams were different and difficult than the notes taken in class. overall you just have to study your butt off!
online class is hard for sure, but she is nice and helpful. Tests and quizzes are totally different than the homework. All MC, and it's like 5 point for one question on the test.Pretty intense. If you don't want to ruin your grade, avoid online class.
She was ok- had no remorse on students though and was not helpful in my class. Her online quizzes are so different from the homework and the exams. Honestly any professor using the blue Illowsky book for stats is a sign to run away- these women are mean! I dropped her and i'm taking a different professor using a different book which is a lot better
She's not arrogant at all!!! I like her smile! Her class is very organized and clear to understand. Quizzes and tests are easy if you prepare a piece of note(you can bring 2 pieces of note for final).I strongly recommend you to take her class!
Avoid this class.. she is not good at all. Students think she is so easy but she is not. Bad teaching AND teacher at De anza college. Please avoid her.
I ended up with a B but I also had an awesome tutor who taught me way more than the teacher did. The class structure and grade rubric was the only thing that was really of any benefit to me since it was a hybrid course and some grades were dropped. Not the worst teacher I've ever had but you will have to put in a lot of studying time.
Take her class for Math because you'll understand her lectures easily. Math is not hard if you take her. You'll have opportunity to earn lot of credits in her class. She'll let you do quizzes in groups, so you will at least get perfect scores in your quizzes. It all depends on your 3 exams and a final, but she'll drop lowest one. Take her class.
Her lectures and examples prepared me for the online hw and quizzes, read the textbook a bit, and it has extra practice if you need it. Definitely not an easy A, but if you put work and understand the material you'll be fine.
I took her MATH10 online course. Professor is nice but don't take this course if you suck at math. There are so many things to do including webassign hw, labs, quizzes, and on-campus exams. You basically have to figure out everything by yourself.
Most frustrating class I've ever taken at DeAnza. I'm not super verse in math, but I don't think you need to be. I'm a smart person and can understand hard subjects as long as they're explain clearly, which they're not! The teacher goes way too fast and doesn't stop to really explain anything. The hw and online quizzes don't match the exams at all!
One of the best math teachers I've ever taken. Extremely fast at replying to emails, and is always ready to help students. Statistics is very difficult for me, but this teacher made it as easy as possible with giving us a note packet and dropping our 3 lowest quizzes and homework assignments. And her English accent is awesome.
Online homeworks and quizzes are simple and clear if you study from the book. Exams aren't the same as the quizzes and homeworks and very difficult. I wouldn't suggest taking her unless you study a lot and get some help immediately if you're having problems with the class already.
Online homeworks and quizzes are simple and clear if you study from the book. Exams aren't the same as the quizzes and homeworks and very difficult. Just don't take her class... so confuse why she can be a teacher..
Worst class I've ever taken! What you are taught and what you are graded on are completely different. She only offers extra credit to people who receive a 100% score on their exams! Basically if you are a struggling student, you will receive no help. Literally more than 1/2 of the class was failing, which in my opinion reflects bad teaching.
Worst class I've ever taken! Homework is time consuming, and even if you understand the homework, the quizzes and exams are completely different! DO NOT take this class! She's super strict and hard! Even if you work hard, your efforts will not match your grade. Her office hours suck and she hardly helps! Save yourself! Don't take this class!
Worst teacher i've ever taken. She pretty much gets paid for doing nothing because everything you learn is from the book. She doesnt lecture herself, she gives you a tedious amount of homework and "projects" every week. Absolutely most annoying class ive ever taken. Extra credit is also only given to people who score 100 on tests.. what? Stay away.
It you want extra credit... Sure! Just get 105/100 on one of the test. You can only imagine how a struggling student can feel. When you ask for help, she is one of those professors that would email you the syllabus again. Don't bother going to a tutor or other classmates for help, because your efforts won't count. No offense... Her teaching sucks!
Should be an adjunct teacher. If you struggle at self learning do not take this class. She does not help you at all. Test and quizzes are nothing like the hw. Answers are format sensitive. Tests are in credibly hard 3 highest test will be counted with final. Tutoring center will do all the work for you without explanation. Need help? Lol no
No extra credit. Hard grader. Make sure you show up to every single class so you could pass. I did all assignments and passed all quizzes, however, the midterms were totally different from the HW and quizes so I didnt pass!
Great professor! Very clear and easy to understand if you read and remember syllabus. A lot of reading and homework, but you are here not to just have fun
Ok, let me start of by saying she is not one of those teachers who will post lecture videos. It is a lot of reading and trying to find your own teaching videos. What makes this class so ridiculous is that she only gives out extra credit to those who get a hundred.... what? You need to stay on top of this class if you take it!!!
DO NOT take this class online if you haven't taken a math class in a long time. As for Prof Markus, for this course she basically posts a link to the HW, the quiz and the book and says go for it. I would not have passed if it weren't for my more math savvy friends holding my hand the whole way. but Prof Markus is very responsive via email.
Beware if you are taking her online class, the pace is too fast and the answer of the quizzes are released 2 hours before the exam, so you'll probably need to figure out all the stuff by yourself.
I took her online class: Math1A - Calculus. The documents and videos she provides are really short and sweet. But the homeworks are crazy. She expects you to answer 100 questions with at least 2-3 sub-parts for each chapter.(most of them are similar questions with different numbers). You have to spend ridiculously huge time with calculating.
I took her online class, but essentially it's self taught. She provides links to the textbook, additional pages for help, and lecture videos by Barbara Illowsky. Group discussions page for for extra credit. Homework has multiple attempts, quizzes are extremely hard, but tests are easier with one or two pages for notes. She drops lowest scores.
If you are really bad at math I would suggest taking her. She is such a good teacher her assignments are self explanatory and easy. She is always accessible pretty much anytime if you email her. All her extra credit are surveys. When she grades quizzes or group projects she gives good feedback. Take her you will not regret it!!!!!!
I took the online six-week version of this class over the summer. Most of the points come from homework, and you get 5 tries per problem so it's free points. She doesn't really teach and the slides weren't super helpful. I wouldn't take this class unless you have background in calculus and/or are good at self-studying. Symbolab is your savior.
She uses lectures from another professor. Grades answer as incorrect (when correct) if you don't follow her rules, which are inconsistent and change with each question. Quizzes are 5-10 questions and you get 40 mins. Exams are 3-4 times as many questions and you get 60 min. Questions - directs you to graded quizzes or student discussion board.
Many hw due each week on webassign, really bad way to practice math (several guesses allowed on each problem). I should've done them all on paper. Useless videos/ppts. 9 projects (groups optional) which were a few problems, mid, final. Quizzes/tests hard, on canvas with bad formatting. Not great, a lot of work. WATCH PROFESSOR LEONARD on Youtube
She didn't do a very good job of teaching the material. To be fair it was online and it is not easy but the homework wasn't making sense and she didn't do a good job of explaining it. The projects were tough and she grades them fairly hard
Doesnt really teach that well (probably because it was asynchronous) which meant most of the content was self study. However, her tests were super easy, basically problems ripped out from the textbook. Not that much hw (20-30 problems/wk). One final and 2 tests (one test drop but final will be counted 2x). A little bit of extra credit given.
Took MATH D010 Intro Stats. Lectures are recorded, easy to follow & relevant. Lisa explains things very well & as long as you either attend class or view the recorded meetings & take notes; the quizzes, hws, & projects are straightforward & don't have any unexpected questions. There are 3 exams w the potential of your lowest grade getting dropped.
Lisa is a great teacher and doesn't assign too much homework. All of the work is done online through WebAssign. The textbook isn't great, but there are guided videos to help you learn. Overall, I feel like this course has prepared me to succeed in the next calculus course (MATH 1B).
I loved this class honestly. I don't think I ever really read the textbook much though, her video lectures and note-taking templates were enough for me. For two weeks we had two chapters worth of work, but for the rest, we only covered one chapter. As long as you keep a good schedule, you'll be fine. She's very kind and understanding!
This class wasn't too bad. She is a tough grader and doesn't accept late work. For the first project we had I didn't submit all my work when I thought I did. I reached out to her and she didn't accept it unfortunately, but she does drop your lowest grades. This class wasn't too much work for me. The class notes were great to understand material.
This is a good teacher. However, I give this teacher a 2 as I don't recommend her to others. Has very strict grading criteria that you must follow and hours worth of homework. I pulled my hair out doing Webassign HW for weeks. She does listen to student feedback though! There is an average grade of 60% for Finals. Good/Okay Not Great
Online with 1 in person a week. Quiz each week - every 3rd week is an exam on 3 chapters. 1 sheet of notes for every test. Can print her notes and she goes through it all in class. HW assignment due each week. Never read the textbook - all the hw was based off the notes she goes over in class. Projects are easy - can work alone or in group.
Does 3 or sometimes 2 WebAssign assignments every week. She posts videos on each lesson. 3 exams on WebAssign. Multiple group projects are graded with the utmost pickiness so be careful and thoroughly follow the rubric; she can take off like 4 points for forgetting an equal sign.
Asynchronous course for a hard topic, so Professor Markus did what she could with the material. There were 3 different ways to learn a concept in a chapter (slides, khan academy, her videos). Homework had much more difficult problems not covered in slides. Be aware of what she expects when grading she will take points off for small things.
Its a web assign class so say goodbye to your $60. Homework and exams through web assign. She posts lectures and notes but just use organic chem tutor or something. If you can learn through web assign, this is the class for you. She is also good with criticism and increased our exam times after the first one.
Overall, her asynchronous classes are alright. They use Cengage, which is a bit annoying since it costs $. The homework is occasionally time-consuming, but you do get 5 attempts for each problem. She has you do ~4 group projects, in which she's a strict grader. She replied to messages quickly. She doesn't ask for you to submit exam scratchwork.
That class was really easy to pass and you easily can get A because her grading system is very easy and you have the chance to miss 8 assignments from total 28
I took her online class and let me tell you something. It was a really bad, she gave lecture of 10-40 minutes and she was always explaining how to solve problems but only the most easy ones or fast solving- but when the test arrives there was nothing from he or lectures in it. I Do not recommend this teacher
An awesome teacher with good explanations in videos. Questions in the exams are all predictable.
(online asynch) hw and exams on webassign, one attempt on exams. as someone with a kinda shaky foundation in algebra/trig her prerecorded lectures sometimes felt fast or unclear.also doesn't accept late work and not very lenient w even small mistakes. however exams were predictable and easier than hw + she drops ur lowest midterm/8 lowest hw
oops i meant to rate 4 instead of 3 mb
