She is a nice lady. I took her for Calculas III, and I got an A. Her tests are very easy. Take her if you get a chance. Her tests are from the notes only, and also she is very fair in grading. Definitely recommonded teacher.
I got a D in her class, but it was my own fault. She's pretty fair and very helpful. The only thing that threw me off was her NY accent.
Very clear teaching. Practice tests are very usefull. I would take her again. Puts you in the spot sometimes... Very entertaining also... Loved the NYCity accent!
A good teacher. Explains the concepts very well, especially to a person who has always done poorly in algebra. You need to pay attention in her class. She keeps you on your toes, but you get used to it. She moves kind of fast, but it just helped me become a quick thinker. You can pass, just be in class and practice the work.
She was so horrible at teaching I dropped the class before I had a chance to fail. She didn't explain anything then treated us like we were stupid when we got something wrong. She gave us group assignments and wanted us to stay after class to get them done, even though we had other classes! Plus her accent is obnoxious!
If you don't like her, that means you don't like to try. She is definitly one of the best math teachers at bucks, and she cares about students succeeding.
Excellent professor. Can come across as very intimidating, at first, and you will have to work. But she knows her stuff and you will learn as a result.
Goes at a quick, but steady pace. Makes sure everyone participates. Practice tests very useful. As with almost all teachers, if you come to class, do the work, and do the assignments, you will do just fine. I love her accent too
Great teacher. MUCH better then Dr. Gleim. He should be fired. Classes are quick and your writing the whole time, no time to fall asleep. Not that hard to get a good grade and learn everything at the same time. I'd like to take her again for Calc I, but she doesn't teach it in the spring...
Prof. Martin is awesome to work with. She will help you in anyway possible to get a good grade. Math is my worst subject and I managed to get a B+ (due to a lot of hard work)! She also responds to e-mails quickly. The book is not so useful so pick up "College Algebra Demystified"; it makes concepts easier to understand (than the textbook does)!
Really good teacher, maybe the best math teacher I have ever had. Calls on you a lot, but that just made me pay attention more.
Qick, strict, but fair. Does not like to be bombed with questions and to be interrupted, although likes to interrupt others. Be prepaired for a very qick pace and a sergeant screaming at you during class. Take her if you want to learn something, take Prof. Taylor next semester if you want to fall asleep. A's possible, just need to work for it!
i love this teacher, i never learned math so easily, she made things plain and simple, you move at a good pace and she makes sure every one understants the material. TAKE HER!!!!
Great teacher, knew the subject well. she gave out practice exams that covered exactly what was on the test. I took this class twice before and had to drop it, due to unclear explanation of the subjects by my previous proffesors and she made it really easy for me to understand. I WOULD REALLY REALLY REALLY RECOMMEND HER TO ANYONE
One of the most awesome teachers I've ever had. Love her fast paced teaching style.
Prof. Martin is a great teacher. Show up, do the work and you will pass! She even goes over the final with you so that you know what type of questions will appear on it. She tests you exactly on what she teaches! GREAT TEACHER....I LOVED HER!!!!
if you do not no basic alg. very well do not take her!!!! she dosee not teach very well
easy A take her
Professor Martin is a great teacher. no use of text book and as long as you either come to class or follow her notes online its an easy A. All the tests had over half the class had A's on the test
very nice teache I ever seen.I started to get interest in math after this class.
really easy teacher. liked her, but she didn't move fast enough for me. it was a good refresher course but i already learned all the material in high school so it was really easy. didn't like how she kept repeating herself over and over again. good teacher though, shes crazy, i would recommend her
AWFUL teacher! Doesn't want to teach, expects you to know what is going on with little or no explanation. Frequently expresses that if you don't do well in her class, you won't succeed in life. Talks down to people constantly. Worst teacher EVER!!!!
She is a great teacher, she knows everyone's name in the first week. She calls on everyone which makes you keep up with the course work. The material she covers is the material that will be on the test.
OMG DO NOT TAKE THIS WOMEN! if you like getting called on randomly in class, and enjoy having a drill Sargent as a teacher then u should probably take her class.like the girl said right ahead of me said she says you will NOT SUCCEED IN LIFE without math, and that if you can not do math fast they you will not make it in the real world.Enough said...
wonderful lady.horrible teacher.i felt discouraged when i answered wrong, by end of course i didnt want to go, ended up barely passing. would not ever, ever reccomennd.
really nice as a person; didnt care for her teaching. She almost seems to enjoy yelling.and i disliked her lack of encouragment towards the students. Not really interested math, she didnt make me anymore interested.she also seemed rude to put down some students majors
RUDE. do not take, unless you're a math major. its so rude to assume you won't get anywhere with *instert any other major here* degree.she told a girl she needs to focus&get her life together bc shes LIB arts.if you answr wrng she yells at you. SHES SO DISCOURAGING. TAKES MATH TOO SERIOUSLY. i disliked math before. now i HATE HATE it.
I asked if the book was required, she said I would struggle without it/ I would find it most useful for future reference. WASTEE. shes rude/in love with math. Unless you are a math major and you only answer correctly, dont take her. she puts down when u answer wrong she'll yell "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" her voice is soooo annoying. YELLS.! RUDEE
took into consideration the comments below, & was scared to take her. once in the class she makse sure you know everything for the test and preps you enough to make sure you get a good grade. i hadnt taken math for 2 yrs before this and passed with ease.
Hey I'm currently in math 120 but it's not looking like im going to pass with a C. Has anyone taking this prof. online? I'm considering doing it this summer.
She knows her stuff, but she is very intimidating. She will call on you randomly and make you feel dumb if you do not know the answer. Don't take her if you don't like getting embarrassed in class. I guess she taught well because I got a good grade, but I regret taking her.
I had her for Calc 3 and - WOW! I can see why some find her intimidating, but don't worry: she doesn't intend to be offensive... you just need to have a thick skin. BUT she breaks calc 3 down so an English major can handle it. If you do your part, you WILL learn in her class. BEST math teacher I've ever had. No contest.
Excellent teacher, not many like her but a lot of young students cant handle her because they are not disciplined enough. Her test arent bad, directly from notes, do the online portion trust me! it helps
You can do well in the class if you know the practice test. She goes over the practice test.
This lady knows calculus. I got an A in the class. I would take her again even if she calls on you in class.
she knows her stuff but can be...." over enthusiastic" about math can come off as a bit rude at times but will go out of her way to help with extra credit and responds to emails regularly. but be prepared to go up to board cause she will remember EVERYONES name. all in all i give her a 3.7
very passonate math and gets extremly animated when it comes to explaining the material. she will call on students to answer questionsand and expects at least an atempt at solving the problems so not recomennded for slackers. does give extra credit in the form of group and online assignments. would recommend her for students who want to learn math
sorry to say not very good. :(
She's probably one of the best math teachers I've taken. She give a lot of extra credit and thoroughly goes over material if someone doesn't understand it. As long as you attend class, you should do fine. Its been a year since I've taken her but I don't think she requires you to do the assigned homework, just a couple quizzes here and there.
This professor really made me like math again! She constantly encourages the class to do well and to pursue there career goals. If you go to class and do the work you can get a good grade.
Great teacher. Realize math is difficult by nature so it's important you attend class and do the proper amount of work outside of class to move forward and succeed. That being said, she is very clear and emphasizes key points. Loved taking her class and I hope to take her for Calculus.
one of the worst I've had at bucks so far. Rude to her students, new york accent is like nails on a chalk board first thing in the morning. Tells you to go back and get her smart board notes, but you cant understand them cause her handwriting is chicken scratch. I wouldn't recommend her, but for higher math at bucks other options, not much better
Expects her students to answer problems when called upon and the structure of her class is perfect. I expected to fail this class when i started and I ended up doing a whole lot better than i thought. she was the best professor i ever had for math.
One of the BEST teachers ever! She is inspirational and wants the class to do good. I will take her again.
The quality of a teacher should not be based on the grade you get, but instead how well you understand the material. She makes it easy to get an A, lot of extra credit, but I dont think she "teaches" well at all. I think she is only concerned with how many people get high grades, not if the understand Calculus. Not good for actual learning, at all.
A teacher needs the ability to explain things clearly and a great understanding for the topic. I don't think Martin has either of those. She would frequently deflect questions and offer perfunctory explanations of key topics. Lots of extra credit, though, if that's all you care aboutl
This was my first math course going back to college. I was nervous to take it. Mrs. Martin explains everything. I liked using MyMathLab for the hws. to practice problems. I plan on taking her again.
The professor was outstanding. She responds to emails and questions very fast. I was afraid to take the class online but, prof Martin has all the work in mymathlab. I found it easy to do good in the class.
This professor made me like math again. She takes the time to explain things to you. She is available after class for your questions. I enjoyed the stories she would tell us in class. I plan to take her again.
Great teacher, I was actually retaking Calc 1 because I didnt understand it at all. Prof Martin was a great teacher, she explained everything and worked out each problem. There is online HW that is extra credit but I recommend doing it so that you get more experience with the work. Not an easy class but Prof Martin made it VERY easy to understand.
Mrs. Martin was not only being such a wonderful and effective teacher, but also for being a caring mentor. With her as a professor, we got more than math everyday; we were given life lessons. I had no idea what to expect when enrolling to Bucks but she made the learning and transition process very easy and for that, I will be forever thankful.
Professor Martin is great. She always makes sure her students know what's going on, and she answers every question. Only 2 or 3 'homeworks' on MyMathLab, and she gives a practice test for everything. Would highly recommend her if you're looking for an easy A.
Mrs. Martin is a wonderful professor. She is very down to earth and likes to say it like it is. She will always make sure the whole class is getting involved and paying attention. She literally drills the math into your head. If you go to class and pay attention, the rest should be a breeze! You wont regret taking her :)
Mrs. Martin is a wonderful professor. She is very down-to-earth and likes to tell it how it is. She makes sure everyone is always participating and paying attention. She literally drills in information into you. If you go to class and pay attention, this class will be a breeze! You will not regret taking her :)
Mrs. Martin is a wonderful professor. She is very down-to-earth. She makes sure everyone is participating and paying attention. She literally makes sure you fully understand everything! If you go to class and pay attention, this class will be a breeze! You will not regret taking her :)
rude. scalds and chides her students for giving the wrong answers or giving them in a way other than the way she wants them, even if it is still correct. Very set in her way, and unwilling to, or I should say unable, to consider new approaches to the material. teaches the way she probably learned, through total wrote memory. Awful college profess
if you dont care about actually learning anything and enjoy meaningless math, that is, math with no meaning or relation to anything in the physical world. or without any explanation as to what the formulas you are using actually mean, then she is for you. If instead you need to understand the material in a intrinsic way, avoid her.
The mark of a great teacher should not be how easy they make the class, but rather how much you learn. If you want easy, if you want to get through the class without any idea of what the meaning behind any of the stuff you did was, then sure, she is great. If you are an engineering student and need to understand the purpose of the material. AVOID
doesnt teach her students to be problem solvers. Teaches them to memorize. Useless in the real world. Also she will waste time giving you life advice. I dont come to calculus for that. That is what counselors and advisers are for. Maybe she would have time to teach theory if she wasn't so busy telling what to do with your life. Not good if eng maj
Prof Martin is very straight forward and makes sure her students are involved during class. She sets her students up to succeed and her tests are no surprises. Go to class and pay attention and you will do well.
Mrs. Martin makes you want to come to class and learn the material. She encourages you to ask questions. he prepares you for the tests. I learned a lot in her class. this was the second time I took the class. I had a different professor the first time.
I have taken Professor Martin for calculus I & II online. I would definitely recommend taking her. Professor Martin's response time to my emails and questions was very fast. I never had to wait long for a reply. If I had to travel for work she gave me an extension on the assignments. The courses are well organized and clear to follow.
Mrs. Martin always responded promptly to my emails and helped me with any trouble I had with the online class.
She has been very helpful in answering all my questions via email and was quick in replying. And, If I needed more time on assignments she was very understanding and gave extra time.
Easy A because of extra credit opportunities but she is Obnoxious New York accent and all. She will randomly call on you and if you don''t know the answer she will make you feel dumb. Very condescending and thinks you will get no where without her class. would never take her again
I think she's ok at explaining the material but I absolutely hate that she doesn't give quizzes preferring to use My Math Lab for everything. I find it very difficult to use that stupid program and it usually doesn't relate much to the work in class. If I wanted to take an online class, I would have. It's hard to monitor your progress in her class.
I didn't mean to put so low on helpfulness, she isn't bad. Just wish we had some quizzes before tests and no MyMathLab. It's clear math is a social activity to her, where as to me, math is a private thing.
I hate math. My friend and I were in the class together. she calls on people every day out of the blue to answer and do questions, so if you don't like doing all ur homework, dont take her. I hated this class she would call on me every day I just said i dont know every time because i can't stand math. horrible class
She makes you want to try harder. I wanted to come to class so that I could get a good grade. This was my favorite math class. Mrs. Martin is organized and willing to help the students in class . She does call on students in class but that did not bother me. I will take her again next semester.
Mrs. Martin overall is an excellent teacher! The first exam I took I recieved a 60% (thankfully she drops lowest test grade), the subsequent tests I recieved all As on. You have to engage in class, do a few of the online homeworks, and actually study for the exams to do well. Through this you gain a fundamental understanding of the material.
I had Mrs. Martin for Calculus II. I liked her teaching style & the class. I plan to take her again for calculus III.
Professor Martin was extremely understanding and worked with me to accomplish a passing grade for the course. She's really flexible and cares about her students.
Ms Martin taught me math like no other teacher. She motivated me so much and made me really feel like I knew what I Was doing. She opened my eyes to the potential I had all along. Her teaching style is perfect and I wish I could take her for every single math course. If youre looking for a great math teacher, pick her.
Amazing teacher! take her.
She can be very mean with the way she asks questions during class, meaning if you are trying to copy things down she does not care. She teaches how to memorize what you do, not understand it. I spend about 10+ hours outside of class (on the lower end) just reviewing and trying to understand. She does not appreciate the extra work either....
This teacher is really great! She makes it easy for you to make a good grade.
MRS. MARTIN IS LEEEEEGIT! :D Super cool person and a true gem in the bccc math program/department!
She is hands down the best teacher I have taken at Bucks. I struggle with math so much, and she makes it easy on you to learn it, unlike other teachers that seem like they don't want to help. This is the second time I have taken her, and if I need any more math classes, she is my go to .
Very caring teacher. She would help you not only with math but with life advice. Explains all the lessons very clear and gives extra points.
An amazing teacher! She is so nice, kind, and helpful. If you aren't understanding something she's willing to take all the time necessary to make sure you pass. Her tests are very direct, based exactly on the homework she gives and her lectures. I have never been good with math but she made me feel like I was gonna be okay.
I always hated math but Mrs Martin is the best math teacher i have had. She calls on you in class which i was worried about before i started, but it has actually made me pay attention and keep up with the problems we are working on. She gives some homework online which if you sit down and do will help with the tests. She wants students to succeed.
Threatens her students and rants about stuff that is not math related
Professor Martin was a great teacher. She is great at teaching new concepts through example problems. Class is EXTREMELY participation heavy. She was call on someone in the class for every step of a problem without asking for volunteers. It really helps everyone to be engaged and make sure they understand. LOTS of extra credit.
Took the online class, so did not get to meet her in person. The online class is a lot of work. Not heavily on video so you need to read a lot to understand. She does not do a good at giving updates or keeping you on track. Would recommend if you are able to keep yourself on track. If you can't teach yourself don't take the class.
Most of your grade consists of your tests, you take three tests and the final- so four tests total but the final counts twice. She drops your lowest test grade, so if it was your final she drops it once. Great teacher, clearly knew the material and how to make students understand. Cares about her students and how they do.
There are so many choice words I could use to describe her. I could hardly understand her with her thick accent. She doesnt explain things well and doesnt take the time to actually teach the lesson.
She's horrible, what other people said has a thick accent that is off putting. She always goes off on a tangent lecturing people about random things that aren't math related often talking about her sons or something. She will always call on you even if you don't have your hand raised and will put you on the spot. Avoid her at all times.
I like her, personally. If you pay attention in class and are actually trying to do the practice problems you won't have a problem when she calls on you randomly. If you're doing your ALEKS and practice test and in class group assignments you'll be fine too. Her accent is New York/Long Island so don't be scared you won't be able to understand her.
Lisa Martin is a great math professor at bucks county community college! I had her for Intermediate Algebra, and I valued my education when I was in her class. Even though she wents on rants about things that have nothing to do with math, they were valuable life lessons to take with you to make you successful. Prepare for a lot of ALEXS homework.
Prepare for a lot of homework. This professor is honestly one of the most challenging professors to work with. Even though she is a nice lady and she cares for the well being of her students, prepare to be frustrated and annoyed in her class. She makes you work for the grade you want, and won't stop until you have exactly what she wants. Goodluck
This class was pretty tough you only have four grades test one two three and four and a final. So be prepared to pass every single on of those test or you will fail the class. She is an okay teacher, she picks on people randomly during class for answers, even if you dont know it shell come back to you till you know one.
one of the worst math teachers ive had and class just started 2 weeks ago. relies heavily on aleks making you teach yourself while during zoom she flies through material and only gives you a minute to answer something then gets an attitude when you dont know the answer right away or at all. also rarely helps explain the problems herself.
Tests are worth 75% of grade. If you are a bad test taker chances are you wont pass with this teacher.
If you want to fail, take this class.
The teacher explains things clearly. She makes it easy to learn. If you do the work and the reviews you can get a good grade.
Clear lectures, homework is optional and only exam grades matter. Calc 1 was very easy with her as my professor.
Good teacher. Gives a solid review before tests. Not a lot of homework. Some extra credit. I will take her again.
Only online material. Homework grades don't mean anything, grade is based only on test results.
My favorite teacher. She explains things clearly. You can get bonus points for tests.
The WORST. Tests and homework are insanely long, spent hours and hours on homework and it barely counts for a grade. Tests are horrible and felt impossible. It's only college algebra so it's actually impressive how awful she makes the course. Would never take again or recommend to anyone. Also she's rude when you reach out for help, don't bother
When you come into class she always asks if you need help with anything. Good reviews for tests and bonus points. Don't need to do a lot of homework for this class. Explains everything so you get it. Liked the class and would take this professor again.
Professor Martin was very good at explaining work & helping students. I would take her again.
Without a doubt the best math teacher I've had, she really wants you to learn! She gives extra credit and helps review the material before the test. Felt like I thoroughly learned the subject and she was always very nice. If you have a chance to take her without a doubt do it!!! Just wish she taught calc 2.
Mrs. Martin lays out the whole course on my math lab from the start so you know what dates things are due, as well as when exams are. The study guides for the exams are very similar to the exams themselves, so it is easy to expect what to see on the test. Overall I would recommend her if you need 141, just study hard and you'll do well.
I loved Professor Martin. She is an excellent teacher and was great at explaining things. You barely had to do any homework because it wasn't completely counted for. Attendence, paying attention, and taking notes will get you a great grade in her class. She is super adorable and approachable; I totally recommend!
Prof Martin is a very good math prof she is caring and explains math in a non confusing way. The reviews are very similar to the tests and homework is 70% or better to get full credit. Tests are not that hard and you get easy extra credit points in this class.
She posted weekly announcements and reminders. Uses Pearson program for all course work and it was very easy to work through. Responds to emails within 24-48 hours. Tests are very similar to review assignments. There were usually 2-3 quizzes online per unit, 3 tests, and then the final exam. Quizzes and homework assignments prepared you well.
The class was what I expected from an online class. There were videos to explain the concepts, graded homework, simple quizzes, and proctored tests. The reviews matched the tests. She clearly cares about the students and responds relatively frequently to questions. Highly recommend, easier summer class but still one where you have to try.
An absolutely wonderful educator, Professor Martin really knows her stuff and she makes sure you understand the material. she gives you plenty of resources to prep for tests and is always happy to answer questions. If you can, pick her class you won't regret it.
Tests are worth 75% of the course but she only tells us 1-2 days in advance. Sometimes she'd assign homework via email the night before she expected us to do it. She calls on people at random even if she told people to only do a few questions, so there's a chance you don't even know the answer. Frequently goes over time and is group work heavy.
Professor Martin really tries to make math easy. She starts off with basic rules and problems to get you to understand the concept. She keeps us engaged throughout class to make sure we are paying attention and understanding the material. The reviews for tests are very similar to the actual test, so if you understand the material, you will do well.
I got a C average but I am also horrible at math. I tried so many other professors and just could not pass math, so if you're like me and have a hard time with math, take her class. Her content was great for someone who is online and she really wants her students to pass.
