Took her for College algebra and didn't find it overwhelming, their is homework assigned every class but its not generally checked by her. Tests are pretty much exactly what she goes over in class and does give out hints before tests. If you have A.D.D you will be zoning out alot as her lectures can get boring. I would recommend her though
This is the key to passing this class, do the homework assignments lectures alone aren't going to help you understand. Find a study partner and and meet at least one hour a week. She is helpful when needed. Highly recommended.
she moves really really fast and is sometimes hard to follow. she usually only does one or two examples of a type of problem before moving on. there is hw every class but she rarely has it handed in. just make sure you really study hard and ask lots of questions and you will do fine
She's a good teacher, good technique. However goes fast paced and stands in front of work always. She erases while people are writing, and often made mistakes on the board that the class had to correct. She knew our names and was respectful. Very nice. Homework was optional, but i recommend doing it.
She was. Very helpful she took the time an hour after class for anyone who needed help. She cares about the subject and encourages everyone to ask question and participate.
She was very nice and respected our life, school, work balance. She encouraged communication and taught us to be responsible. Her knowledge of the math competencies was extremely high. She assigned homework and stressed that in order to learn math you must practice problems which I found to be true. Her tests were reasonable but you need to study
Mrs. Mathus has excellent teaching qualities and keeps the students interested in the lessons. Her teaching methods are outstanding and innovative. I would HIGHLY recommend her. This Statistics class is my favorite and I've never missed a session.
Very helpful, clear and willing to stay after class to answer any question. I would recomend her to anyone and would take her class again.
Mrs. Mathus is one of the better Math teachers I've had. She's keeps the class lessons intersting and practical. I would highly recommend her.
Mrs.Mathus is very knowledgable and helpful. She is one of the best teachers in the school and always gives the extra effort to make the students comprehend the lessons. I just completed this course during the summer. She's the best.
Prof Mathus is a good teacher but wants you to work. As long as you do your work, show her you are trying you will do well. At first I was hesitent about her but as the semester progressed I new I picked the right teacher.
Great professor. Works very hard on making everyone interested succeed. Very understanding and ready to stay after class and help. Do your homework and copy everything from the board. Although, pay attention because sometimes she makes mistakes too. Would have taken the next level with her, but it doesn't work for my schedule.
I took her over the summer. Having received C's and D's in high school math (Algebra II), I was worried about jumping into Calc. She was more than willing to help me understand the material enough to get an A. Overall, she's very nice, very helpful, and very understanding.
Mrs. Mathus provided clear solutions to problems and was very helpful. She's extremely skilled and a dedicated teacher.
The professor was very knowlegeable and helpful to all the students. Class participation was a key in learing. Everyone worked diligently to improve their skills.
Was fairly clear in explaining concepts, but often made mistakes and leave a problem half done and go off on a tangent. VERY disorganized. Rude and sarcastic. Inaccurate grading. TERRIBLE time management. If you can help it, DO NOT TAKE HER!! You will achieve the best success with Professor Garlick.
This teacher is very knowledgable about the subject content and brings relevant items to the class discussions. Very little homework is given but a project is required. Use of the computer is mandatory for homework and projects.
This teacher is very knowledgable about the subject content and brings relevant items to the class discussions. Very little homework is given but a project is required. Use of the computer is mandatory for homework and projects. Very fair grader.
Very fair with grading. Cares about the students passing.
You must do your homework to do well. She gives a quiz each class session - be prepared. Very fair with partial credit.
At first, I did not understand any of the material due to a poor algebra background. However, after brushing up on those skills, Professor Mathus taught us the Calculus concepts in an easy to understand manner, unlike other professors. I went from being unable to graph a line to an A in Calculus. Definitely would recommend her!
Very helpful professor. I took her for Business Calc in the spring 2014 semester. Do the homework and study for the tests and you will be fine!!
Mrs. Mathus is a very knowledgeable professor in mathematics, and she will take her time to help you. Definitely take her classes, you will not get disappointed. Practice, practice, practice and you will be fine.
Took her this Summer B. At first I was positive I was never going to pass I later learned it was bc of my poor algebra. She took the time to help me when asked, go to the math lab and find a study partner ASAP. She wants to see you give it your ALL! I put all my energy into Calc & Got a B yayy!
Although I only had Prof Mathus for a short summer session class, she taught me more in 8 weeks than some professors I have at my 4 year university did. She is a great teacher who explains content, tells you what will be on quizzes, and will help you if you take the initiative. Not only did she teach calc, but she also taught me not to give up.
SHE IS THE BEST !!!! she wants her students to pass her class, put the effort and you will be fine .... she is really a good teacher. I will take her again !!
The best professor I ever had.
A is achievable if you do what she asks you to do.
You must not get behind as this is what happened to me and I could have made an A if this did not happen.
Prof. Mathus was clear at times but often raced through material and if you ask her a question after class about the homework, she was not happy. She did help you if she had time most of the time she bolted. I wish I could giver her 5 stars but I have to be honest if your not that great in Math don't take her she will ignore you.
Is not considerate when it comes to time management of students. Assigns too much homework in less than a week and did not show up to class the class before our first test.
Great
Very unorganized when it came to assignments. It was always very unclear what was due when and often the due dates didn't match the due dates on MyMathLab. She is a great teacher in class, but, assigned a lot of homework and was a very tough grader when it came to showing your work on tests. The material is easy and that's the only reason I passed.
She is a really nice person in general but gives a lot of homework because homework is a high percentage of your your grade and she lets you redo the homework in mymathlab as many times as you want so you can easily get 100. However if you are a very busy person with a job and other classes that need a lot of your focus I recommend that you not take this class because she likes putting homework and online quizzes as top priority and if you do badly on those you do badly on your over all grade.
If computers were never a part of the class, and the only way to complete homework, she would be a good professor. However, the pearson website ruins all of that making the class a horrible nuisance.
I'm so slow when it comes to math. I usually need the lessons to be broken down for me to fully comprehend and professor Mathus made me feel like an idiot. When I said the wrong answer to questions, she'd stop.. stare at me.. and say "NO" very disrespectfully and made it pretty clear that she thought that I was stupid.
Math is not my subject and I swore I wouldn't pass, but I stuck it out and I'm glad I did. She's very helpful if she sees effort out of you, and was always willing to re-open Mathlab assignments to boost your grade. Best math teacher I've ever had!
Used MyMathLab by Pearson for homework. If you do what is assigned you can make an A.
Lots of homework. Large percentage of the overall grade is on homework. She is very unhappy if you are a slacker and she will let you know it.
This teacher helped me get into the CCM Honor Society. She advocated for students to be active on campus and to make a difference. She is tough in the classroom and expects a lot but after she explained that courses are like holding a job and that if your boss asked you to do something you would do it or you would get fired it made sense.
Great Professor! I hate math and failed Calculus the first time. I retook it with Professor Mathus and I was amazed that I actually liked the course and made a B! THIS GOES TO SHOW THE PROFESSOR CAN MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN LEARNING!
Professor cares about students.
Course was horrible but the professor helped whenever I had questions and when MyMathLab would not take my answer she fixed my score when I got problems wrong for how I entered them when I had done the work properly.
Terrible professor; disconnected; demeaning; not at ALL helpful. When asking for help she just tells you to study. Conveniently offers up her tutoring hourly rate (hint: maybe if you pay her she'll help you). Leaves class early so after class isn't the time to ask for help, not that you'd get it. She's gone in a flash. AVOID HER AT ALL COST!!!
I took this class this summer and knew it would be very hard for me as I dropped this course at University of Delaware. Prof Mathus cared about all of us passing and encouraged each of us to step up and work hard as we could only "earn" our grade. At first, this was annoying but I finally listened and it did pay off. Prof Mathus was the best!
She gives you great class notes but you are the note-taker. She does great test reviews. I would love to take her for another course but I do not need anymore math credits.
Attendance was part of the grading but I attend all my classes so liked this a lot. I also liked that Prof Mathus was in the CCM Math Tutor Center and I used her help often and was happy that I could receive free tutoring provided as part of my tuition.
This Prof gave us the opportunity to be successful. If you did not pass her course then you are a slaker and did not take full advantage of her help. You must take notes or she comments about "pencils up". Glad I took Calc this summer and go it over with.
If you take this professor, get ready to learn! She is a great teacher. The tests were like the reviews and if you take good notes you will know how to study for a test. I wish she taught at my college as I need another math course.
If you are someone who struggles in math, this is the professor for you. She can speak clearly and will answer questions. She gives a quiz every class but it is based on what the last lecture was (class attendance is important.) She is fair and does not tolerate students who don't try. Highly recommend if you're looking to understand statistics
She's the best ......I learned a lot
The tests and quizzes were announced and came straight from class notes.
I wished she taught PreCalc Spring 2018 as I definitely would sign up for her course.
I never thought I would get out of this class. This was my third time taking this course and I was worried! Prof Mathus made me think about math and not memorize processes and I finally got it! Hey, I got a passing grade!
This course was not my favorite but the professor made me stick with it and I passed.
Glad that this teacher is at CCM.
If you like to talk math, take this teacher. If you don't like to speak in class, you'll get use to it by the end of the semester.
One of the best professors I ever had and she is very dedicated and caring
Tough 7 week course but Professor Mathus made it possible to pass if you stayed with the material and did not slack.
MyMathLab was used for homework but if you did the problems you could make A's on her quizzes. Use the Math Tutor Center when you take a 7 week course or you will not pass as it is so much material.
Taking math in the summer just is not fun but I had to do it. Professor Mathus made the class time valuable and ensured we all were learning.
This professor said, "I do not care about your grade". I was like what? Then she said she cared that I learned because if I learned, then I would be at a high grade. That was awesome to hear it like that as she did care that I learned the material.
very creative teaching methods keeps you involved and want to learn more
Professor Mathus is very knowledgeable and caring person she always is there for you and provides expert guidance.
She gives you a lot of chances to prove that you know the material, only 2 tests and a final so make sure you practice hard for those few tests. And take mathlab seriously, it'll help you pass.
I have Professor Mathus this semester and she is difficult but fair. If I did my homework completely I know I would do better.
Must do homework to be a good student in this professor's course.
I took Calculus last semester and did not pass so took it with Professor Mathus and passed with an A. I do not understand why some professors can be so difficult and not care about student success and then others are all over it and so passionate to see that students are learning. Thank you, Professor Mathus.
I always felt like I could never learn math and would be a failure. Professor Mathus was caring and took time to explain the concepts. She also made me more confident that I could do math.
I am taking this PreCalculus course this summer and I already know it will be a challenge but I feel that I can do it and make a great grade due to how Professor Mathus explains the problems to us. I am glad that I decided to use my summer to take this course as it was very hard at the college I am attending.
Great Professor who cares about students. I took this as a 7 week class thinking that I would never pass but was glad I did not give up. Professor Mathus told us her mother died this semester yet she came back after a week to finish the class with us. This showed true dedication to her students.
MyMathLab was used in this course for homework and quizzes. Professor Mathus dropped the lowest of each which helped a lot.
Professor Mathus told us a story about how she called her mother everyday while travelling to CCM and that we should make contact with our own mom daily as her mother had passed this semester and she nearly cried sharing this in class but wanted us to learn a life lesson in addition to math. This left a big impact on my life.
Be prepared to use MyMathLab! Professor Mathus is very fair though and it is clear that she wants students to learn. The hardest part is that I just do not love math like she does!
Refuses to meet outside of class, awful email communicator, condescending towards her students, refers back to being at CCM for 14 years constantly.. the list goes on. She tries to play nice by offering extra credit, but never will actually give what you earned on your exams. If you ask her to slow down or a question in class, you're disregarded.
She is incredibly unorganized. Mastering a test review wont help an average IQ student. Its to the point where she doesnt accept answers on tests that show up correctly on MyLab. Expect question types that have been gone over the least on your tests. She has below average communication skills, unfair grading, etc. The brightest kids do well.
Professor dud a great job with the pandemic online issues.
I enjoyed having this professor and learned a lot.
Professor really cares about her students.
This professor is 100% committed to the student and that he or she learns the material, she will go over examples as many times as necessary and she clearly knows her subject. She is very caring and fair and wants students to really learn, not just to get the grades. Amazing professor and a great person.
All I'm going to say is that this professor likes to teach math to people who are already good at math. I would never take her again.
Fall 2020 was a tough semester but this professor was very fair.
Zoom sessions were hosted and very useful. Professor Mathus responded to emails within 24 hours and made sure communication was open. Homework was MyMathlab - YUCK.
This professor is very fair. If you do your homework then you will pass easily. I did not stay on top of the course for a few weeks and that hurt my final grade otherwise I would have made an A.
Professor Mathus is an amazing teacher. Covid has been a drain but she has made the best of Zoom and online teaching.
I am not sure how this professor has a decent rating.. She is so hard to reach outside of class, does not offer extra credit. Classes held over zoom and she skims through every topic and you essentially will only do well in this class if you have some prior knowledge to the topics.. Avoid taking her classes
I think this professor is writing her own reviews! I would never take her again. She is not accessible outside of the classroom and doesnt explain things well. Stay away!
If you do not already know how to complete the course you are enrolled for, do not expect to learn much from this professor. You're better off paying your tutor to teach you. Students new to the class will be rushed through lectures and expected to teach themselves. In-class notes are a mix of speed running notes and not having notes explained.
Professor Mathus took this class over from a professor who left and had a lot to catch up as we had to learn on our own for 5 classes. She did a great job and let us know we were partners in learning. The material was difficult but her classes were good.
I was transferring this course to my real college so only needed a C so did not do everything but this professor can explain things where anyone could learn.
Professor Mathus took this class over after another Professor never showed up and later learned she quit mid semester! Professor Mathus was able to bring us up to speed with the lost time for learning. The rest of the semester was difficult with the 2 weeks of discontinuity but I was able to be successful in the end with fair grading.
teaches too fast
Professor knows her stuff. I took a condensed 7-week course so we flew through the course content, but as long as you asked questions and did the homework it wasn't too bad.
Do not take! Does not offer online notes to help students. Rushes through material and doesn't explain the sections well, if at all. Instead of teaching she will do 3-4 problems on the board per section, half explain the process, and then move onto the next section. Lots of self teaching. Only those gifted with math skills beforehand will do well
I hate this professor with a passion. Doesn't teach well and when she does, she uses weird, more roundabout methods to make problems more difficult than they should be.
Professor Mathus gives a lot of extra credits. She is also the most forgiving teacher I've ever had in my life. If she made the quiz, she'll let you know your mistakes and not take ANY points off. If you ask questions and participate, you should do just fine in her class. However, she can work on giving out better online resources.
Professor Mathus is very kind and helps students be successful. She is strict with grading but also very fair.
This professor is a nice person but she cannot teach. She flies through the material without truly teaching it. Its as if she creates a plan on how to speak in the class and refuses to deviate from it if the class requires further explanation. When she shows her work on the board she erases it 2 seconds later without asking if we copied it down.
This is by far the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. Do not expect to learn ANYTHING. She flies through material without explaining anything and when you try to ask a question she simply ignores you. I had to take a summer class with a different teacher and passed with an A.
I wanted to cry. This class is sad. HELP!
She didn't teach, just read off of the slides. She is not good at explaining things.
Professor Mathus knows her stuff, but the class moves fast. Engage with the material, use Unstuck study for extra practice, and you'll do well. Overall, a solid course if you put in the work.
Prof Mathus gave a lot of homework but it all was relevant and her tests were straight from the homework. She worked problems the entire session and students did problems on the board. She provides great test prep before any exams. Great person and I would take her again if I needed another math course.
I liked that she reviewed problems for tests. If you do your homework, the class is easy.
Professor Mathus was very kind and understanding when it came to my work schedule, which made a big difference in managing the course. She communicated clearly through Blackboard, and her use of the platform was consistent and helpful.
The material was taught effectively, and I always felt supported in reaching out with questions or concerns. Overall, she created a positive and flexible learning environment.
I took an online class with Professor Mathus. The homework was heavy primarily due to being online, Test were proctored with proctor software. You had to upload your detailed work at the end of every test.
Do not get discouraged by the negative reviews, they are most likely coming from people who do not put in any effort and then blame the professor when they are failing. Prof Mathus is very fair grading and will give you partial credit if the answers are not 100% correct. If you put some effort in this class, you will pass!
Not great at lectures or teaching on the board, better preview material before class starts. But she has good resources for you to study if you want to build a solid foundation yourself.
Took 5 week course and it was hella stressful, but took plenty of tutoring everyweek with her in order to pass the class with Mathus. Lots of compentency checks every week in order to gain more bonus points and points. She is fun too talk too and there is no extra credit in her class. We do not need textbooks in her class and she some what rushes.
She is my favorite professor. She made Calculus so easy to understand and went over the past lesson before teaching the current lesson to make sure all students were connecting the material.
I did not learn anything, and I know I am not good at math, but still she barely taught and flew through the material, AWFUL.
Professor Mathus consistently demonstrates a genuine commitment to helping every student thrive and achieve their best.
Professor Mathus goes above and beyond to create an environment where every student feels empowered to reach their full potential.
Professor Mathus provides excellent review sessions that clarify key concepts and actively prepare students for success in their exams and coursework.
