excellent professor
Lisa does a great job of working one-on-one with students who are willing to learn. She does a great job of making the class fun. She's different, but in a good way. I'm glad she's teaching at WSU.
The class is easy as long as you get the study guides from her before each test and study everything on them. She makes the concepts easy to understand.
challenging but fun. really funny
Easy if you go to class and get the review sheets. Careful with the TA's who don't speek english though, I got accused of cheating when I clearly had not!
Final Grade: 15% 'Participation in group discussions' (you just have to 'look interested'), 55% for 3 fairly easy exams (although she claims half the class fails), 30% several writing assignments, based on readings. She is a funny prof, who teaches w/overhead slides. Discussion Section=waste of time
She makes all of the material VERY interesting and keeps your attention with random jokes during lecture.
Lisa McIntyre is a great speaker and she makes it clear what she wants you to know. She also has a great sense of humor.
Made the subject very interesting and was easy to understand and follow
This was the first lecture class that I have attended that was entertaining and easy to follow. The tests for this class are a challenge but Lisa makes it interesting to learn, and fun too. I took alot from this class!
Easy class, She gives you everything to get an A. She makes lecture enjoyable and still teaches you what you need to know. The tests are fairly tough, but there is enough else in the class you can do well without them.
kept class lively and fun. liked the notecard idea for the "opportunities."
Possibly the easiest class I have taken at WSU. If you go to class its impossible to do bad on the tests, I really dont understnd how some people are failing.
Lisa is a brilliant lecturer and keeps you awake in class. The workload is kind of a lot but it, along with the tests, are graded very easy. She also made a subject that I was not interested in, prior to her class, very interesting. Highly recommended!
Very interesting professor, that brings it down to your level and interest. Go to lecture, there are not many notes but they are clear and to the point. The textbooks were a rip off though for the amount you had to pay, couldn't but them new because you needed to buy a lecture guide that was sold with the textbooks. Excellent prof. though.
Good professior. Easy class if you go to lecture and go over the study guide before exams. Lets you bring in a 3x5 card to the exams.
Interesting..but expects a LOT from students, get ready to work and study, study, study!
Really fun lady... Easy classes, and she really understands what she's talking about. Her books are a little overpriced, but not her fault. She makes it really easy to approach her with questions.
She is really funny and makes the class very interesting. More hw than some of my classes. But at least her classes aren't broing me to death
Lectures are great, show up and take notes and you will do great in the class. Letcures are so easy to follow and the test are mostly m/c and she uses similar tests over and over so find someone that took the class and get their old tests and you will get a 4.0 for sure.

If you have to take sociology, this is the teacher to have. She is hilarious, and she wears a tie! She can have very dry humor at times, but it seems just make a better incentive for listening. Her readings are interesting, and the exams can be pretty funny as well.
Dr. McIntire is the BEST instructor I have had at WSU. She is focused, very knowledgable, and really approachable. If you have Soc, you MUST take it from this instructor. she is the BEST.
class is too big, she thinks too much of herself talks down to the students and her "helpers" who also think too much of themselves.
WONDERFUL PROFESSOR! Very knowledgable, humorous, organized lectures with great overheads. HIGHLY RECCOMEND SOC 101.
lisa is kick ass and funny. she however wont accept '****' and makes that clear. as long as you read and get your **** done its an easy ass class. and plus it's really interesting so that helps so much
She thinks she knows everything about society and culture, yet she had an exam the morning after the Superbowl... Its an easy class just annoying to put up with.
Uses a Wacko Grading system on tests where a C on a test gets you less than 50% of the points for the class. Always talks about "thinking like a sociologist" this is funny because on average Sociologists have a lower salary than the average Struggling Magician.
You'll read both books by end of the semester. Very tedious. She is extremely knowledgable about her subject however you have to agree w/ her or none of your tests will be right, none of your papers will be right, and your lab grade will hurt. Must "think like a sociologist" to pass this class. I was interested but it wasn't easy.
She is the reason i switched my major to Sociology. This was by far the most amazing and intellectually stimulating teacher ive ever had.
Pretty easy class, professor knows her stuff and teaches it well.
funny professor
I loved this class (tho it was pretty difficult). Lisa tells great jokes and uses creative slides. It was a lot of work, but worth it. I wish she was teaching another class in the spring!
best class at wazzu
impossible to get an A in that class....
Very good. Very smart. Knows her stuff. Lectures are smooth and intresting. My favorite class at WSU so far.
Great teacher...she had very entertaining lectures and she gives you hints for exams...just make sure you go everyday...if you do all the readings you should get an easy A...I did half the readings but went to lecture everyday and still got an A-. She gives extra credit sometimes also.

Shes soo cool; one of the best proffessors at wsu. she has a great sense of humor and gets creative with the overhead slides, lecture guide, and the tests. She knows what students like and is really entertaining. Important to take notes bc some of it comes only from lecture. lisa rox.
Great prof, wonderful books she wrote personally for the class. She's a little different but she is deffinetly the best one to take the class from. She is always open to suggestions and works with you, though she is a cell phone Nazi and demands respect always, no matter the reason.

Can be helpful but she twist the words somethimes!
I love her. She has a great sense of humor and you get sucked into lectures you don't even realize the time. READ THE BOOK. It's her own book so it's pretty important you read it. Chapters are short and weekly essays are easy. Do the work. Go to discussion. Tests involve textbook and lectures.
Overall it was a good class but at the beginning it was really hard and if you do not keep up on your reading you will get behind and fail the test. She gives a ton of extra credit but every point counts so study, read, and do the best job you can on the papers. The class gets easier as you go so do the best job at the beginning.
Great class, interesting, fun, and Lisa presents it all in a "grab your focus and pay attention" kind of way. Oh, and become her friend on facebook and start a poking war with her. It's fun :-)
fun teacher, good lectures, lots of papers though
She is a great prof that is fun to go to class and learn. Really easy if you just show up and study. Some people who dont try fail but that was their fault.
She obviously is well prepared for her lectures, creating clear and entertaining powerpoints to explain the subject matter. She has a "creative" approach to assignments, giving extra credit for simple assignments ("Type a joke and turn it in"), as well as calling tests "Opportunities". You do have to read from the books for the bi-weekly essay.
there's 7 essays throughout the semester all of which are self explanatory and really easy. the tests are super easy.
Lectures are entertaining and she assigns extra credit. Her exams "opportunities" are easy- short answer and multiple choice. It doesn't take much to get an A or B on exams and you get to bring a 3x5 notecard. 7 Essays for the class and the TAs grade harshly!!!!
Lisa McIntyre is a good professor, however all the papers and tests are graded by "discussion leaders" that meet once a week. My discussion leader was horrible, she would literally look for things wrong with papers and tests. When I get 100% on the multiple choice and then get a 0% on the essay portion, that's a direct attack on my grade.
very interesting lectures, exams correspond easily to the textbook and notes taken in class. depending on the t.a. you get, this may make or break the class for you. some are very meticulous, however mine was awesome
Lisa is a great teacher. Her lectures are entertaining and she makes you laugh almost everyday. The tests are not too bad, and she lets you bring in a notecard w/ notes on it to the exam. The TAs grade really hard and there a numerous papers that are graded pretty harshly. Overall, a good and interesting class :]
great teacher. well prepared for lectures and i actually enjoy going to her class. she is fun and interesting to listen to. she has a different approach to everything which is refreshing. lots of extra credit but also a lot of reading and writing papers. worth the extra work though!
She is a good and fun teacher. She really knows her stuff and enjoys teaching. There are a lot of extra credit opportunities, so go to class! A lot of the test material is covered in class, and her powerpoints aren't online. There is a lot of reading, but try to keep up with it. Take this teacher!!!
Best professor that I have EVER had. She goes above and beyond to help you earn an A. Offers extra credit, second chances and for teaching a class of 600 + genuinely cares about her students. On top of this her material is actually interesting and her powerpoints are brilliantly funny. I would take a dozen more classes from her in a second.
Hands down the best professor I have ever had. She is very interested in the topic and makes it very interesting. She made me want to switch my major to soc. You can tell that she knows what she is talking about and that she loves it. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone
HATED this class. McIntyre has an ego problem and does not know how to support her points with REAL evidence. Total Bullsh*t! Don't take this class from her. Try to get the other professor! A lot of work for an A.
I recommend this class if you have to choose between different ones. Lecture is basically a joke. Just go to the discussion group and read the book. You will be fine.
VERY difficult to get an A and grading scale reflects that. It is an interesting class and an extremely knowledgeable professor. Just don't be fooled by the "101". Remember to be "cogent".
Frankly, it is not that hard to get a B and passing grade in this class. But it is extremely hard to get an A. You will be OK if you take the second chance in the first exam and do extra credits as many as possible. Mid-term exams and final are not easy, so make sure that you try your best to earn full credits in the multiple-choice part.
Dr. Mcintyre is a great teacher. She is extremely knowledgable in her area, and makes it understandable. Her lectures are humorous and fun, and the class is generally enjoyable. As long as you do the work and make an attempt to understand the material you should have no problem. Dr. McIntyre is extremely approachable and helpful too.
I think Lisa McIntyre is a great professor, plus she wrote the book so she really knows what she is talking about! She is funny and she offers a lot of extra credit opportunities! I never dreaded this class!
While she tries to make this class interesting and i like her personality, this class just sucks. It's incredibly boring, lectures are a waste of time, the 7 discussion papers are a major pain, the exams dont really reflect real understanding, and her explanations are extremely basic and often vague. i learned more in my high school soc class....
I am taking her 101 class for fall 2010 and she is really funny. She makes her powerpoint intertaining and she answers everyones questions.. the only pain are the weekly discusions where we discuse the book with one of the TA's and some of the ta's are wack but pray that you got a good one Lisa is amazing though I give this class an A- :)
She is great! Go to class, or else exams will be DIFFICULT. a lot of work for 101 class so don't underestimate the "101". Discussion groups once a week are boring but hopefully you get a good one, because they are they grade your papers...I had Shan Foo and she is awesome. NEED THE TEXT BOOK!
funny professor. Have to pay attention to lecture to do well.
She's a good prof. Your grade will depend on your discussion leader. If yours is good, you'll be fine. otherwise, you'll feel horrible. Over all, this class needs a lot of works
I learned more in my high school soc class, so I was really disappointed by this class. My discussion leader was great, but the lecture teacher was boring, overly broad, and much too basic when it comes to the subject. Never went to class and got a B. The weekly papers are a pain tho, so put some effort into those.
Teacher was incredibly boring. Only interesting when talking about a article she wrote herself, Hernando Washington. Sociology was possible major for me until i took her class. She should retire.
I had really good hope for this class but ended up hating the class. The tests are actually hard and she likes to trick you. My TA graded my papers super hard so It was hard to even pass those papers. Get lucky and get a easy TA. Only take if you have too.
A challenging class, but not impossibly hard to get an A if you pay attention and take notes. It help to make example for things you understand. Your TA makes a big difference.
Extremely hard class. Even studying and taking detailed notes doesn't help get an A. The tests are vague and one misworded answer can bring you down a letter on the test. The only good thing about the grading I can say is that you only need 26% to pass the class. Lisa herself is an excellent lecturer. It was extremely interesting.
I don't recommend taking this class unless you have to. It is a lot of work and I don't feel like I really learned anything.
Not hard at all, but grade depends on TA. I went to class and took really basic notes, but because she teaches her own books everything was all very intertwined and connected. Tests are simple, just know vocab and core concepts. The weekly papers are annoying and grade depends on TA.
Awful class, tests are hard. She told everyone when starting the class that over 50% of the people that take it will fail the course and need to retake it. She doesn't give out proper study guides, she tells you to in depthly study a concept but doesn't include anything about that concept on the test. Papers are easy, but TA grades tehm, not her.
I enjoyed this class, she is a quality teacher and my TA was hard, but a great person. READ the Core concepts and go to lecture and you will pass!
This class isn't hard, she makes it almost impossible to get below a C. Lecture can be boring though but she doesn't take attendance. Also she is apparently one of the best in her field. You need the books and the lecture guide is like your bible. My TA was Schreiner..super funny but a little intimidating.
Easy class, a lot of work and reading though. She keeps it fun and interesting. The TA's on the other hand might be a little sketchy.
She has powerpoints that are really helpful and usually teaches until the end of class, but she is very helpful.
AWESOME!! She is funny and keeps the class interesting. Make sure to read the chapters it helps so much on writing the papers and the exams. She lets you have a note card for exams. write definitions and concepts. :)
She is a really good professor and is easy to understand because she has powerpoint presentations.
The professor is ok, but the TA's are possibly the worst people I have ever met. It's hard to talk to them due to the lack of interest they put into the class. Just a disappointing class, and a waste of money and time.
Lisa is an amazing professor. She's energetic, and clearly loves her field. She tries to make lectures interesting, and if you read the book, make a 'crib card' for exams, and actually do the essays, you'll get a good grade. It's a pretty easy and interesting class if you put in even a little bit of effort. I wish my other profs were like Lisa!!
Lisa is a fantastic teacher. She makes things easy to understand, she keeps the class interesting & is not boring. Plus she's hilarious! The class is geared towards freshman so she makes it easy to keep up and gives you extra resources so you can succeed. She does a very good job at explaining the topic & I wish more professors were like her.
This class was way harder than it needed to be. The TA's are the worst part. Try to get around taking the class, even though she is the main sociology professor.
Lisa is a good professor but her TA's grade everything. They grade the papers and tests like we are all majoring in sociology. I've never received below a B+ on any paper I've written during my college career and a majority of my papers in this class were graded at C+'s. This class is way harder than it should be for a 101 class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Literally my least favorite class I have ever taken at WSU. The TAs are nazis, and really rude and make you feel stupid. On top of that they grade everything extremely hard. ITS A 101 CLASS... But it is seriously SO much work. LISA IS AWFUL & SO ARE THE TAs.
Lisa is a talented teacher but she does not seem interested in her students. The TA's in the class are extremely strict and grade everything really hard. I thought it was going to be an interesting/easy 100 level class. But it was not either of those. This class was way too much work. I Would not recommend this professor to anyone.
Grade is dependent on TA so kinda Russian roulette there. And they line the walls of Todd auditorium to look for texters. If you grew up in Berkeley CA and can re-hash everything you learned about it being society's fault, you'll do fine if not. RUN AWAY RUN VERY VERY FAR!
Lisa is the best professor at lecturing I have experienced. Although they usually are pretty boring, especially in a 500 person class, she keeps it interesting and appealing to students. However everything revolves around which TA you are assigned to which is the major downfall to this great course.
Lisa is awesome! There's quite a bit of reading you have to do but the reading is not overbearing at all and it really helps on the exams. Her lectures are super entertaining and funny. You have to put in work for this class, but if you stay on top of things it's actually very easy.
McIntyre is tough and she won't take disrespect but if you talk to her outside of class she is really friendly and is usually willing to help you out if you ask for it.
Dr. McIntyre is a great professor! Her lectures were the highlight of my freshman year and she's highly respected by her students for good reason. Her SOC 101 class does require a lot of reading and the tests are tough, but she makes the work worth it! Definitely recommend taking this class if you enjoy discussing social issues!
Soc 101 was a great class, Lisa writes the textbooks herself and is an awesome professor.
Best lectures ever.
Dr. McIntyre is one of the best sociology professors I've ever had. Has really funny and interesting lectures
Her lectures are awesome and have made we love going to SOC. My favorite part have been the discussions, but the lectures are great too. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you definitely need to go at least once a week. There are tests about ever 3-5 weeks and papers atleast every 2 weeks. The grading is based on amount of effort you put in.
love love love love love love. if you find another class with her as a teacher, TAKE IT.
Attendance isn't mandatory but I highly suggest you go to class or the tests are going to be tough for you, lectures are dry and uninteresting. Tests revolve about 70% lecture, 30% readings (ton of readings). Most of class points come from the discussion class and the 4 papers, not too hard but probably depends on the TA you get to grade them.
Shes a great professor. Interesting lectures and a good amount of outside work. Not too much but not too little. She left halfway through the semester because of health issues. I hope she's getting better now shes such a gem.
Really great teacher, interesting class and a fair amount of outside work. Ta's were really chill. She left midway through fall 2018 semester. I hope she can come back, she really is an icon
