In this class it either comes naturally or it doesn't. If it doesn't then you need to work really hard. McKinney is a great teacher and makes everything lots of fun, but the tests are very hard. Study, study, study!!!

She is a GREAT teacher!! Accounting is tough, but she explains it very well. She makes class fun, and wants you to do well.
very good teacher
Very nice and has a great attitude. Everyone should take her if taking AC210. Quizzes and tests are bad at all.
She is one of the best teachers I have encountered so far. She makes accounting interesting and explains everything in a understandable way...If you are willing to go to class and study you can make an A with her as your teacher
If you have to take AC210 this is the teacher to have! She explains the material so everyone can understand what is going on and makes it interesting! Plus she tells you what to study for the quizzes and tests. Best teacher I've ever had! She even gives out candy sometimes :o)
I loved her class. She explains everything extremely well. She always made us laugh. Study what she tells you to and you will do fine.
If you can take her for 310 you better sign up quick. Basically to avoid redundancy she is everything every 210 said below, except 310 is a bit more difficult.
She is awesome!!! Very clear on all topics goes out of her way to help you in every way she can. If she is teaching a class you need you better take her. Also tells you everything that is going to be on tests and quizzes, no suprises.
She makes accounting class bearable
She's great at explianing things and cracking jokes to make the class bearable.STUDY STUDY STUDY for the tests. Her tests are very hard. Most people do bad on them so she curves them alot.Shes very nice and very understanding.
BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD!!! You must get her as your teacher if at all possible!
Well, I don't think shes that hot, good bod yes, everything else.. not so much. Anyways about her class. Its really easy. Go to lab and go to class.. it really does affect your grade.. but its a really easy class. Everything is done online.. the tests are JUST like the homework.. same problems different numbers. Easy A
I don't know what happened to her. She was my AC 210 teacher and she was awesome, but now that she makes the test, the class is all but impossible. Hardest test I have ever taken. I would recommend her for AC 210 but don't get her for any upper division class.
Great class
Mrs. McKinney was an awesome teacher. She is hilarious and very energetic. Since she makes the test, she lets you know what you will need to know. Works homework problems in class. Tests are a little hard, but just study what she tells you to.
great accounting teacher
Mrs. McKinney is very funny and nice, but the class is tough. She is very helpful if you come to her outside of class. She also gives study guides. You have no homework in this class, only 5 tests. Unfortunately, the tests are comprehensive. We had one opportunity for extra credit. I would defintely suggest taking McKinney over another professor.
very clear in what she wants/ expects of you.... explains things in ways that are easy for you to understand... funny and interesting too. she is also very fair
Great teacher! She is hilarious!!! I would recommend her for your AC210 class! tests are kinda tricky at times, but not the hardest! she explains things in a way that a college student would understand! very nice woman!
a must have for accounting
Great teacher, but you have to come to class
GREAT! This is who you want to take for as many accounting classes as possible!
The best accounting teacher! She is the reason I majored in accounting! I wish she taught all of the grad classes!
Great teacher, hard class but she makes it the best she can. She is really funny too.
great teacher. helps you understand alot. she is hilarious. keeps you interested in class with her jokes.
Mrs. McKinney, by far, is the greatest instructor ever to teach accounting! She's witty and fun and makes you want to learn about the material. She is a must have for everyone taking an intro accounting class...and if you end up loving accounting like I did because of her, you'll enjoy having her for your upper level classes as well!
She makes class interesting. I'm assuming the material would have been infinitely harder if she wasn't the teacher. Take her if possible!
SHE KNOWS HOW TO TEACH COLLEGE STUDENTS!!! Best down-to-earth accounting prof period!!! She jokes (you'll actually laugh without meaning to) and keeps it VERY INTERESTING. Take no one else but her!
She is definitely a good teacher. It takes her a while to spit things out in class and will work up to something for like 15 minutes and then say somehting that would have taken 3 minutes to explain. But probably the best accounting teacher you could have
Very helpful teacher. She speaks clearly and everything seems so simple when she talks about stuff. She definitely is always wanting to help you and give you obvious hints about quizzes and homework
She is the one and only reason I enjoyed accounting. I even thought about switching my major to it. She is hilarious and makes things relatable and interesting... not an easy feat when teaching hundreds of college kids. And she will make time for you to help when you don't understand. I wouldn't want anybody else for this class.
Mixed feelings about her. For most, this is a hard class regardless of teacher. Pro: Supernice/approachable/smart. Con: people confuse entertainment w/ good teaching. Misleads about what you should concentrate on studying for test. Like most UA biz profs, way too dependant on Powerpoint. Not enough time to take test/waste time handing out test.
She is absolutely awesome! The best AC210 professor ever ever!!! Definitely recommend her. Interesting and she makes accounting easier.
Great teacher! Definitely take her if you have a choice. Makes accounting fun, which is certainly no easy task.
Best teacher EVER!
I love her! She is the best thing about Accounting. If you can understand the concepts it's a super easy class. If you don't understand, she can explain it to you very simply. Great teacher.
There's no other AC 210 teacher to take. The last time I took this class with another "teacher", I had the book and still had to drop w/ a W b/c that other person sucked. This year, sans book, I have an A, because she is an exceptional teacher.
Best accounting teacher, bottom line.
great teacher...period
Awesome! Relates to college students very well and uses great examples in class.
Go to class, take notes, do the sample problems, and you're golden. She does her best to be funny and engaging with a fairly boring topic. Definitely take her if possible.
Class is hard but she tries to explain the concepts in the simplest way possible. She also tells you exactly what will be on the test. Just go to class listen and you should do fine.
Lisa McKinney is an awesome professor. She makes class interesting and makes a point to show how the information is useful in life, and not just to AC majors. Great class, exceptional professor.
one of the best professors ive ever had
Great teacher, with a lot of comedy in class. But Truly one of the best at UA!
Great teacher. She is very funny and she keeps class lively and active since accounting is boring. She also constructs all of the exams so she can easily explain what will be on it. Best accounting teacher.
McKinney is the best accounting teacher at Alabama. She really knows her stuff and can teach it to people who don't understand accounting at all. She keeps class interesting at all times
McKinney is an awesome professor! The material is tough but she explains everything very well! She's super funny and makes it interesting. You definitely have to work at it though!
Don't take anyone else.
McKinney is awesome...I want to be her husband. Her British accent turns me on.
I was told that she was the professor to take for this class, and she is. She is very funny which definitely help. The class made me want to completely zone out, but she kept my attention. Buy the book.. It's worth the money. Do the Connect homework, it helps a ton! Really do read over the topics from the study guide.. It helps more than you think. The test were kind of hard, but she added points onto every one, which was nice. Take her. She's awesome!
She is very smart, but cannot explain things thoroughly. She doesn't go over many examples in class. Class discussions and studyguide material are not like the exam. This class was my worst Accounting class ever. Overall fantastic professor but wouldnt recommend for Accounting 371.
Best AC 210, no question. Love her
She's crazy, but her class is really good. She makes accounting about as exciting as it can be. She's really good.
Great teacher. If you want to learn something, take her. If you want to get a good grade, eh maybe not. Her tests are very hard to do well on.
Best accounting professor at UA. Everyone says how hard the class is, just go to class and do the homeworks until you get an A and you'll do fine. Final is non comprehensive also
The only teacher you should take for accounting, without a doubt. She makes accounting about as interesting as it possibly can be.
Great teacher though she can get annoying with all her stupid accents. Her tests were hard but not too bad. she scaled almost all of them and i ended up making an A
My favorite teacher so far! She teaches what is on the test and is very clear. For each quiz she goes over what will be on it and the test aren't that bad. Loved the class!
The class is hard just because of the material. Tax Code is just ridiculous, but she really tries the best she can to help you understand it. The class requires a lot of studying for exams, but she tries to give you some cushion through projects. She's really clear about whats going to be on the best and is great about reviewing the material.
Prof. McKinney is an AWESOME teacher for 210. She knows exactly what she's talking about and makes the class interesting. This will be a hard class but she makes it bearable. Tests are really hard but I got an A on the final exam because I studied a lot. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you want a good grade, go to class. Definitely take her class
Prof McKinney is the most phenomenal and inspiring instructor I have ever had. If you attend lectures and read, you will understand the material. The exams are extremely challenging, but she tells you exactly what she expects of you. She is not only hilarious in class, but she also gives a lot of time to her students outside of class.
Very dramatic and interesting
She's a fantastic teacher! I've had her for 210 and 371 and would take her for 471 if I get the chance. She's very helpful, especially if you avail yourself of the office hours. Her lectures are a lot of fun to sit through, and she makes a relatively dry subject (taxation) pretty intriguing. I learned an incredible amount in her class.
Lisa McKinney is awesome. She makes the otherwise dull material of introductory accounting far more bearable with relatable examples and entertaining stories. She definitely knows her stuff, and she'll make sure you do too. Go to class, do hw, go to lab, and you'll get an A. Not a tough class overall.
Accounting is a hard subject in general, but she makes it so much easier. She is hilarious and keeps you entertained. She also explains concepts very well! Attendance isnt mandatory but if you have Mrs. Mckinney I suggest going to her class! You will actually learn the material.
Lisa McKinney is the BEST accounting professor Alabama has. She is very clear with you what she expects. Go to class, understand how to do the homework, read the book, and do well on the quizzes and you are on your way to an A or B!!! TAKE MCKINNEY!!!!!
This class is awful. Its going to be one of the hardest classes you take, she is funny and all that, but don't let her fool you, the tests are only 32 questions and very difficult.
Attendance is not mandatory, but GO TO CLASS. I was told she was the best in the Accounting department, and she did not disappoint. She's hilarious, engaging, and genuinely wants her students to make an A in her class. She rarely emphasizes the book, and her test material comes from the PowerPoints. However, to do well you need to go to class.
McKinney is WONDERFUL! She is by far the best accounting teacher! She is very clear when she speaks and very easy to understand. She is also hilarious and keeps class very entertaining!
Well I took this class a semester ago and Lisa is awesome! She is the best in business department. For those of you who said she is so so or suck it is definitely not and you definitely suck. If I know her 20 years ago I would do whatever to marry her coz she is awesome.Female version of Iron Man, lol! Read the book b4 exam to get A. I LOVE LISA!!
Best teacher I've taken so far. Dont even think about taking AC unless its with McKinney
very enthused professor. loud and high energy all the time. can be funny, but the class takes actual time and effort.
I can't imagine how I would have passed the class if i did not have her. She is very entertaining during class and has a way of making accounting as interesting as you can make it. Would not take the class unless I had her. No matter who you take, the class is difficult, so you might as well have the one who explains the material EXTREMELY well.
Funniest woman I've ever met, definitely makes an accounting class worth going to with all of her hilarious rants. Gives out many different resources for you to learn material. WORTH IT
Probably the only person on the planet that can make accounting interesting. She is awesome at getting you to pay attention and understand each lesson. She tells you which part of the lesson to study for the weekly quizzes and what not to, she is awesome. I wasnt event enrolled in her class but attended anyway because I heard such great reviews
Hands down the best professor I've ever had in my life. Never missed a class because she was that interesting/hilarious. If I knew I would have her for the rest of my college career my major would be Accounting without a doubt. And, you don't have to be in her class to attend. Definitely go in her lecture, not your class.
Wish she would explain the basics of each concept better. Felt like she was teaching to some one who already had their degree in accounting. Will say that she is really funny and makes her class as enjoyable as accounting can be. recommend her over other teachers
She's your best option for Accounting 210. One of the best and funniest teacher's I've ever had. This is a very hard class though that I had to give maximum effort to make an A in.
Lisa McKinney is so great! She's hilarious and makes accounting bearable. The tests aren't very hard, but if you don't understand something get help, because all the material builds on itself. Overall an awesome class, and a really great professor.
Highly Recommended! She is the BEST AC 210 teacher. Accounting is difficult but if you stick to it she'll get you through it.
Lisa is awesome, she's hilarious and fun. But the class itself is a TON of work, a weekly quiz that is really hard, homework that takes forEVER, and the tests are really difficult too. Its a class you just have to get done though, and she is the only one who can keep you awake in class, so might as well take her.
LOVE LOVE LOVE McKinney. 310 is not an easy class, but she is a great professor. Keeps the class interesting, explains things well, and is very willing to help. Take her for any accounting classes possible!
SHE IS AWESOME!!!!!! I love her class soo much. I'd take 210 again just to hear her talk. like she is just so cool. i want to ask her to hang out sometime but that'd be weird. go to class and use you book & solutions for your homework and automatic A. so cool so easy. peace luv lisa mckinney
Accounting is a hard course in general, but Ms McKinney makes it interesting and relatable. She goes out of her way to help her students succeed and is hilarious! Class is not mandatory, but it helps so much to clarify everything. Take Ms. McKinney if you can!!
This class was really easy. Homework was harder then the tests. Don't even bother buying the textbook all you have to do to study for the tests is do the practice homework and you'll get an A.
This class has a lot of work involved online. Attendance isn't mandatory for the lecture, but I highly recommend going. Attendance is mandatory for the lab section. If you put in the work, you'll do well.
She is the Bill Nye of accounting! Very good at explaining the topics, and is repetitive on the difficult concepts to the point where you are confident in them. All work is online besides the tests. Go to class and you will do well on the tests! She is also very funny, and manages to make accounting entertaining! Extra credit is also possible!
McKinney, if you're reading this, don't let the bad reviews get you down (although to be honest, you're probably scoffing at them). You rock and are the best professor I've had at UA. You're the reason I chose tax and the reason I go to the houndstooth on Wednesday. Wish all our teachers were like you
Lisa McKinney is one of the reasons I declared my major in accounting. Yes the material is hard, yes you have to go to every class, yes she is the most knowledgeable and interactive professor I had at UA. She can explain accounting concepts like nobody else, and she roots for her students to do well. She is also hilarious!
McKinney is HILARIOUS! She repeats a lot of the important concepts over and over, but that's only so you'll remember it. Makes an intro accounting course about as interesting as it could be! Attendance isn't required, but if you want to understand the material, definitely go. Don't let the online homework sneak up on you!
Lisa McKinney is hands down the best professor at the University. Accounting courses are just more work in general, but she will make it so that you can get it. It also doesn't hurt that she is hilarious and a DIME!
She offers 4 points extra credit on every single test, all you have to do is do the learnsmarts. You get a 100 on hw if you get at least an 80. The tests are hard just because accounting is hard, but she gives a review that will tell you everything you need to know. Weekly quizzes give you chance to pull grade up, but you HAVE TO STUDY FOR THEM
One of the absolute best teachers I have ever taken. Strives to make sure you understand the material, to prep you for what comes not just during this class but after it, genuinely cares about her students. EXTREMELY approachable with any questions you have. She makes the lectures fun! Looking forward to taking her again for AC471.
McKinney is hands down the best teacher to have for this class. The course material is extremely difficult--coming from a family of CFOs and accountants--but she breaks it down the best possible way. Go to class!! And if you are unable to get into her class go sit in her lecture and I promise it'll be worth. She knows what she's doing.
McKinney is hilarious. She is a good teacher too. Do what she says for the tests and quizzes, and you will get an A. Do the extra credit. It makes a huge difference on your test scores.
I took McKinney for AC210 and it was great! I completely understood everything and the class was well-structured. However, that isn't the case in AC371. Lectures don't really help out with the online quizzes assigned for each chapter which are very, very tough. Working through book problems is a MUST - and even that doesn't really do the trick.
I had to drop after the first few months. It was beyond hard mostly because the lectures were very basic (copy paste from the book) and looked nothing like the homework. The homework looked nothing like the quiz's, and NOTHING like the test. There were very few resources to study with and the questions were designed to make you to mess up.
McKinney is the best professor I've ever had. If you don't go to class you will fail and if you don't put any extra time into it then don't expect to do good. I went to class, paid attention, and read through the chapters and got an A+. You get drop quizzes, plenty of points, and bonus point opportunities.
This class will either convince you to love accounting or hate it, but McKinney will definitely push you towards the love side. This class is really hard for those who are not used to accountingmath, but she makes it a lot easier than others.
McKinney is so entertaining, but also a great teacher! She explains the material very well and tells you exactly what will be on tests and quizzes. The class in a tough class, but if you go to class and keep up with the work, you will do fine. Homework and quiz every week. Gives extra credit.
I took Mrs. McKinney for AC 210 and she was GREAT. Took her for 371 and it was completely different. First off, don't under estimate the class, it's hard. McKinney does not give extremely helpful lectures and they are nothing like the quizzes. Learnsmarts are not required, but I highly recommend doing every bit of practice available.
I think it's time to make the AC 210 courses independent instead having Mrs. McKinney as the course coordinator of all 12 to 13 lecture, because when it comes to completing the coursework it's either her way or the highway, even if it's a mistake on their part. She gives the class somewhat of a grin but trust me that's not enough to pass.
This class was the hardest class in my life. I studied so hard to get an A+. This is the only class that I had to pull an all-nighter even after some legit reviews three days ahead. However, Mckinney wants you to be successful in your business career. This class will be hard, but do your best and you will get an A. DO as much practice as possible.
I would recommend her to anyone! She puts on a tough front in her emails, but is very helpful if you get to know her. One of the best lecturers I've ever taken! Do the homework, show up to class, study, and you'll get an A. Warning though-- tests can be quite difficult so make sure you study extra hard for those!!
Examples are nothing like the Homework, Homework is nothing like the Quizzes, and the Quizzes are nothing like the Exams! Skip class then you are better off dropping during you're skip.
Show up, listen, do the work and you'll be fine. Just time consuming but she does a great job of explaining. Exams are like the quizzes.
Mrs. McKinney is an awesome and hilarious person tasked with teaching a boring and uninteresting topic - accounting. But she gives it her best and definitely makes it bearable. However expect frustrating online homework and difficult tests (especially if you take the honors section). But honors has a service lab which is much better,
Being honest I was in someone else's section for lecture but they were so terrible that I had to find someone who actually could explain accounting so I just began going to McKinney's lectures and my grade in accounting completely turned around. Would recommend for accounting because you're literally not going to find anyone better at UA.
This class was a complete waste of time. The grading scale is complete bull and the class is made way to hard then it needs to be. I went to every single class, studied for hours, and probably will fail. The professor wont budge on anything and is not helpful.
If you have to take this class, you MUST take McKinney. She knows what she is doing and makes going to class worthwhile. (PS if you can take honors, I would. Regular has weekly quizzes in lab that are a pain.)
This class is not that hard if you're willing to put in the effort to study the chapter each week for the quiz. If you do what you are supposed to you will have absolutely no problem with this class. She makes her lectures interesting as she can (it's AC its not going to be interesting) and is a fair grader. Take her.
Overall would recommend because 1. if you are taking this class, it's probably because you are required to and she is the best AC 210 professor, and 2. she is super fun. Weekly homework which is tedious because you have to make at least an 80% to receive credit. Tests can be difficult. Attendance is strongly recommended.
I don't understand any of the negative reviews. Not only is she the absolute greatest professor Alabama has to brag about, she is also incredible as a human being. Definitely a sort of spirit animal for me, and I hate not having her this semester. ENJOY THE TIME YOU HAVE IN HER CLASS!
Professor McKinney is an awesome woman. Is she a good teacher? Yes. Does she leave people behind if they don't understand the material? Yes. Are the tests hard? You either get an A or an F. Her accounting class is very hit or miss. I did not enjoy the material, I thought I was at a stand up comedy show and that's pretty much the only reason I went.
Lisa is the bomb. Only she could make a tax class hilarious. Easy if you read the book and do the optional hw.
LISA IS AN AMAZING TEACHER! I DID ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE ON THE FIRST TEST (55)! I KINDA SCARED MYSELF INTO SHAPE. IF YOU'RE AN AVG STUDENT LIKE MYSELF, BE SURE TO GET AN UP FRONT SEAT AND PAY ATTENTION. I TOOK MY OWN NOTES AND TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE LEARN SMARTS(XTRA CREDIT). HW AND QUIZ EVERY WEEK, ALWAYS GET ALL THOSE POINTS.. YOU'LL NEED THEM!
If you do exactly what she tells you to do there is no reason you should not make an A in this class. The weekly homework and quizzes builds the information in your brain very well. I highly recommend reading the textbooks it helps a lot. Very entertaining and teaches exactly what will be on the test. Best teacher I have taken at UA.
McKinney really makes class fun. She knows she teaches a boring class that can be difficult, but she really makes the best of it. She presents the material clearly, but the class is still difficult. Attendance is not required, but highly encouraged.
McKinney knows what she is talking about and she is hilarious! Tax is a difficult class but she will do whatever she can to help you understand. TAKE HER!!
If you can, take the honors version. Instead of quizzes, you volunteer which is not only fulfilling but also gives you 15 free points. On the actual teaching, she is a competent teacher, though her style is basically read off the power point and throw in lewd jokes. That being said, if you pay attention, the material isn't that hard.
One of the best professors I have had so far but also one of the hardest. The work is reasonable and she does an amazing job of teaching the material but I still had to put in work. Taking the honor's sections means that you volunteer instead of going to a lab, totally worth it.
Took her for tax (AC371). By no means is this class a walk in the park. You have to read every chapter and take thorough notes and do the online homework and quizzes to have even a remote shot of getting a C average. That being said, class isn't really the most helpful thing, but there's really no way around it. She makes it funny, at least.
McKinney is an AWESOME professor. She is hilarious and extremely smart. She teaches well. Doing the homework helps a lot. You will not pass if you do not go to class, but if you do, the class is not bad at all.
She is absolutely hilarious... I felt like I was at a stand up comedy show in her class. However this course is very challenging but she does her best to help you and explains things very well! I would recommend reading the chapters and studying the learn smarts to pass the class. The quizzes helps also but the homework is nothing like the tests.
Mckinney makes you work for the grade, the class requires a lot of work and a lot of reading, but tax is just complicated. Even though its a challenging class she is an awesome teacher and is super funny! It is the most rewarding class if you put in the effort and you actually go to class! You will learn so much!
McKinney is hilarious and really lays down everything you know in a relatively understandable format. (Accrual accounting is very foreign to me, I'm an eng major.) Homework and lab quizzes are a pain, but tolerable and part of every class. Take McKinney if you can, absolutely. I also hear her honors section is fantastic and not too hard!
Awesome teacher!! Class is really hard but she makes it easier. Really tries to keep class interesting. She doesn't take attendance but it is worth your time to go.
Lisa is fine. I don't get much from her lectures. Honestly, just read the chapter for the week out of the book and do the homework and it's easy. You don't even need to worry about what professor to take. A lot of the people that I know that struggled with this class didn't take the time to read through the chapter, so do yourself a favor.
Lisa is a fantastic teacher. If you just really buy in to what she's teaching you will do fine. The homework actually helps you prepare. I made a 101 on the first test and I know people that have taken this class 4 times.... Lisa prepares you well - you just have to put in the work.
AC210 is a historically hard class but Professor Mckinney definitely makes it easier. Her lectures are funny, if not sometimes off topic/rambly, but the homework and readings she assigns always have a purpose and are really helpful. Tests are hard, but again its because the material is hard. Use the tools she gives you and you should be fine.
You have homework due every Friday, if you get an 80% or above on it you get full credit and if you don't then no credit. She is hilarious and the most inappropriately funny professor I have ever had. Quizzes are pretty easy and you get an automatic 20% for staying after during the lab section. DON'T FALL BEHIND!
Other people think she is funny and she thinks she is funny too. That annoyed me. Therefore, I didn't go to class and had to do the work on my own. I think the class was easy. Just read the book and don't go to class.
By far favorite class so far in college. McKinney is hilarious and definitely knows how to teach this class. Take honors if you can and you wont have any quizzes, instead you do community service once a week! If you attend class and do your homework the class isn't bad at all.
Lisa is my new idol. She is an absolute gem and an amazing professor. I was nervous about this class but if you stick with her she will give you a complete understanding of accounting. Super nice lady and I really advise taking the honors section if you can to avoid weekly quizzes, instead, you participate in the LIFT program which was super fun.
McKinney is hilarious. And that is about it! She teaches like she is tired of teaching. You have to practically teach yourself. The homework is time consuming and worth very little of your grade. Makes the class way harder than it needs to be. I would have certainly taken another teacher if I had known what she would be like.
McKinney is very funny and makes accounting as enjoyable as possible. However, the class is not easy and without studying you will not do well. If you do all your homework/extra credit questions and read the textbook you will do great. Also the entire class is based off of the first four chapters so make sure you know those.
Best accounting teacher at The University of Alabama
DO NOT TAKE. Unless you've taken an accounting class before. Lisa is funny at first but then gets uncomfortably gross and does not teach accounting. I read the textbook, did the weekly homework over and over, and paid an extra $50 tutoring session per test to pull out a B-. She's cool, but not worth the stress.
Great teacher. She is extremely funny and personable but is also actually great at getting her points across. Instead of lab you just do community service!
the class itself was hard, but she is the best one to take the class with. There is a lot of hard homework, and you have to get an 80% for full credit, so it can take you a while. The tests can be hard, but if you stay on top of the material, you should be fine. Weekly quizzes in lab. She is hilarious though, and makes class very fun.
She does her best to explain a boring subject in fun way. If you have the chance to take her class, do it!
Lisa is great, she just teaches a difficult class. With work and time put into this class, you should be successful. Come to class and ask questions if you need help.
Lisa McKinney was one of my favorite professors I've had at UA so far. She's hilarious and makes lectures interesting. She really knows what she's talking about and how to teach well. Extra credit of up to 4 points per test for doing LearnSmarts.
She's really funny but sometimes gets off topic. I personally do not think she's the best teacher, but it's hard to teach accounting well to people brand new to the subject. Overall she's pretty solid!
Mrs. Mckinney is probably the best teacher I've ever had. Even though I had this at 8am I always looked forward to class because she taught the material so well. There's never a dull moment in class. I don't think I've ever laughed so much in a class. You are crazy not to take her.
Her class is a great mix of comedy and accounting!
Mrs. McKinney is the best instructor for AC 210. I took Mr. Little during the spring semester and made a 60 on the first test and a 42 on the second. This time I made a 99 on the first test and a 89 on the second! I also recommend taking it during the summer if you can. I personally think it is easier!
She is a great professor. She is super funny and seems enthusiatic about the course. She makes accounting fun and you honestly laugh at her antics for most of the class. She gives bonus on each test and all your homework, although tedious, you get 100% just for getting an 80%. You can also drop two homeworks and class is not mandatory!
Highly recommend taking Lisa for 210. Take the honors section if possible, the LIFT program is great.
Great teacher! Test were reasonable and the honors lab section was actually enjoyable!! The difficulty of the homework was not transferable to the simplicity of her test. Read the book, go to class, and take the honors section, and you will get an A.
Good choice for AC. She is very nice and super funny! This is the ONLY class I suggest taking honors over regular. The honors lab helps your grade a lot. Her lectures are okay, but to learn AC you have to do the homework. The h-work is hard and there is a lot of it, but if you understand the h-work, you will do well on the tests since they are MC.
Lisa is a real diamond in the rough. She's super caring, hilarious, and wonderful. However, I wish she changed up her class where she did better review for exams or improved her hw design because your grade is basically made up of 3 exams and if you fail the first 2, you have to drop the class. I only survived because of her honors section tbh
I think she is the best teacher I've had thus far. She knows how to connect with her students and make the curriculum interesting. The homework and tests are very different, but the homework does help. While you don't have to go to class, attending makes the material so much easier to understand.
I love McKinney and her class. This is one of those classes where if you want to do well you actually have to go to class, but with her as your teacher you'll want too. The course its self requires you to work hard but McKinney does an excellent job of explaining everything to you.
McKinney is easily one of my favorite professors. Accounting is not one of the most exciting topics, but she makes it entertaining and understandable. I would highly recommend her. You are given opportunities for extra credit, but you will have to work for them.
McKinney is a great teacher. This was one of the few classes I actually wanted to go to. She made Accounting fun and learning easy. Your grade comes from 3 test and your lab quizzes. She posted practice exams which I highly recommend to do. Also, do the practice problems she assigns and pay attention in class.
TAKE HER TAKE HER TAKE HER! Accounting classes in the summer can be stressful, especially coming from not knowing much about it. But McKinney made it an incredible experience. She is very excited about teaching and it makes learning accounting so much more fun. If there is any way you can take her, do it! You have 3 tests and quizzes. SHE'S AWESOME
Accounting is a hard class but McKinney at least tries to make it entertaining. Tests are hard but if you read the book and do the homework you can pass. You have homework every week. Good class to use for an Honors credit since it's not harder than regular accounting, you just do volunteer work outside of the lectures. Go to class or you're lost
She is an amazing teacher. The class itself is a challenging class, but she makes it as enjoyable as possible. Constantly cracking jokes and making funny examples. Have to go to class. If you skip you won't understand anything. Her lectures are your main source of learning. The Textbook is automatically charged to you after add/drop date.
She's really funny but her class was not easy for me . The homework sucks.
Lisa is absolutely fantastic. You need to pay attention in order to pass (duh), but this isn't a class that is easy for most people to skip/sleep through. Lisa makes it easy, however, because she's utterly hilarious and cuts out unnecessary material.
Hard class, but McKinney is funny. The only hard thing is 75% of your grade is from the tests which are challenging. Overall, the class was okay.
She's hilarious and amazing! Offers extra credit on tests, you only have to get an 80 on hw assignments to get full credit, and two hw drops. The honors class get to do volunteer work for lab instead of a regular lab with quizzes. 3 tests (75%), lab (20%) and homework (5%) is your grade. She makes accounting a lot better and easier to learn.
If you are going to take a tax class, this is THE class to take! She takes some of the hardest things and truly breaks them down. There are "pop" quizzes that are "unannounced" she def. tells you when there will be a quiz lol) Although she breaks it down remember its still tax and you have to give it 100% of your effort to really pass.
honors section is good to guarantee a high lab grade (20% of overall). lectures are enjoyable and you do learn a lot but tests can be difficult. reading the textbook is boring but definitely the way to go. she tells you what you need to do to make a good grade in her class and if you actually do those things and put in the work you will.
Honors section is difficult, but doable. Lisa makes the class fun and entertaining. You better be prepared to read, study, do homework, and go to class. This is not an easy A.
Mckinney is literally the coolest person in the Accounting department. Such an amazing teacher. 471 is a hard class, but she is amazing at breaking it down into easy to understand lectures. Take her!!
Most people live McKinney, myself included. She's hilarious, you'll laugh the whole lecture and will likely walk out still laughing. That being said, the homework is the most brutal I've had in my college career thus far and is the only way you will do well on the test. If you have to take AC210, definitely take her, but it still won't be easy.
McKinney is awesome! Attendance not taken, but you won't hate going and it really helps to be there. If you take honors, you don't have a lab and get to volunteer instead and can get bonus points for going to extra shifts! Power points can teach you everything if you need to miss and online hw is mandatory but only 5% of final grade.
If you have to take accounting, TAKE HER. An accounting class is never going to be great, but she is hilarious and does her best to keep us entertained. She really does explain things well and she also offers extra credit through volunteering.
You don't have to show up to class but its helpful if you do. If you want to pass you have to do the homework, there is only 1 a week so its not asking much.
I love her but her teaching style does not work for everyone. She consistently says to NOT take notes in her class because its online but when it comes around for test it makes it difficult because 1. You dont remember everything she said in lecture and 2. You now have to go back to search for all the notes and re-study them. Hw nothing like test
She is a really nice and funny woman. Her lectures were very funny and enjoyable to listen to but the problem is, you don't learn very much. You kind of have to teach yourself the material. Get passed the HW, that is the toughest part of the class. The tests are challenging but the Learn smarts are similar to test questions.
Lisa is awesome. Take the honors section with her. Lectures are entertaining, the lab is just volunteer tutoring. The homework is doable and tests are fair. Don't screw up on test 1, you won't be able to come back. Do the learnsmarts twice. Read the chapters twice. 10/10 prof.
Lisa is an awesome teacher. AC 210 is a pretty difficult class, but she does a great job explaining everything and is always there for you if you need help. You should definitely go to class because its easy to get behind in this class. Her 3 tests are difficult, but she gives some extra credit. Study multiple nights in advance and read the text.
By far the hardest under division class for business. I would not recommend taking this with Stats 260 as I did, but she is truly an amazing professor. She makes lectures fun and gets the main concepts across easily. Homework is weekly and will take a good bit of time, and tests require ample studying but aren't too bad.
Great professor for accounting. Entertaining lectures, however, there is some online homework each week (1 to 3 hours) and the homework is due on Friday nights. The honors section has volunteering for the lab, so if you can take honors, do it.
Lisa McKinney definitely knows what she's talking about but doesn't transfer it well to class. She's hilarious but greatly oversimplifies what you're learning in class. Constantly tells you that you must be an idiot to not understand the material, but doesn't actually go over the material for you to do well on tests.
She tries to teach you how to learn, which I would suggest you just ignore. She likes to joke a lot. She can be helpful with the material, but I would say reading and practice problems are needed to truly understand the material. There is also a "lab" for the honors section where you help people do different things depending on which you pick.
I was dreading taking corporate taxation because I did so horrible in 371. However, although the material in 471 is very detailed and tough, McKinney does a great job in explaining it in her lectures and she's pretty funny. Her study guides are extremely detailed so you know what exactly to study for on tests. 10/10 recommend.
she truly cares about students and WANTS you to do well. I did AWFUL on the first test after studying my butt off, but i went to her office hours & ended up getting 25 pts higher on 2nd test. use her study guides and condense the material before each test and youll be golden. having 471 at 8am sucked but im glad it was with her, she made it fun!!
Lisa McKinney genuinely cares for her students and their grades. She gives so many opportunites for extra credit, makes herself easily available, and makes study guides. If you go to lecture, do your homework and learnsmarts, you will definitely pass!
Do anything you can to take McKinney for this class! Her lectures were actually interesting and easy to understand and we had so much help for studying for the tests. I got so much extra credit! One of my favorite professors I've had.
I can't say enough good things about Lisa. If you are going back and forth between 210 and 211, TAKE 211! Instead of taking quizzes, you volunteer and get a free 100 in the lab. She is hilarious in lectures and makes a boring subject fun! She is the most accessible professor and did a great job w/ COVID. The best professor on this campus. Period.
She is the best UA professor!! Just go to class, take notes on the lectures, use her study guides, and you'll do well. She is incredible and she helps her students in class and outside of class. (I swear knowing her is basically a resume item. She gives you so many opportunities to get involved!) She will help you be successful. TAKE LISA!
Took this two years ago, I overslept and missed the final, was freaking out cause she'd said so many times "no make-ups get there on time," but went to her office anyways crying and she let me take it late. Got an A+ in the class. Thanks Lisa, I owe you one.
Great professor and always so accommodating! Makes the course material interesting and so much easier to learn if you pay attention during lectures. The homework actually helps you learn too. Plenty of extra credit offered and you get a free 100 on your lab grade for choosing the honors section and participating in LIFT.
Dr. McKinney spends more class time trying to entertain students and make them laugh than anything. As a science major, I'm more used to cut and dry lessons and concepts, rather than a class in which we are flat out told not to take notes. Her teaching style was not for me, and I did not learn much, but she is hilarious and entertaining.
Shes nice and definitely hilarious, but her teaching style made it really hard for me to learn. She also said multiple times every class how easy accounting is and its just not that easy, at least to me it isnt. Only reason I passed this class was reading the textbook. Def would call her to bail me out of jail tho
Doing the homework is essential to learning the material, even if it counts for a small part of your grade. Show up to every lecture, and use the learnsmarts to study for the exams. This was a hard, but understandable class that makes sense if you put the work in.
Honors kiddos: Take 211 with McKinney over 210. Here's why: -If you get at least an 80 on the HW, she rounds up to a 100. -You don't have quizzes every Friday. You instead volunteer once a week at a time that works for you. (It's easy) If you show up you get an A in Lab (15%) -Lots of Extra Credit ops -LISA ROCKS Thx for coming to my TED talk
Lisa is the best professor I ever took. She is very funny and her lectures are entertaining. The topic is hard so you definitely need to practice and read, but she makes the material interesting. Keep up with the material since its a lot to cram but she gives very detailed study guides
Lisa is sweet but can come off as rude in emails. Class is very heard and it's hard to follow her during lectures when working problems because she doesn't write anything down just talk it through. Make sure you read the book or relying just on the powerpoints ain't going to cut it. Majority of us failed the 1st exam but got better on the 2nd one.
I took AC211 this semester. She made the best of a rough semester and was sensitive to student needs. Would totally recommend her to everyone and I have for my friends taking this course. She stresses chapters 1-4 are essential for understanding the course and she is right. Use the practice for chapters 1-6 and switch to learn smarts after.
She is like a mom to us.
Love Mckinney as a person, and she is a great professor. Wants to see her students succeed. The class itself is intense, and extremely difficult. Mckinney offers extra credit assignments and bonus points in order to help out her students.
She is very engaging and funny but takes her time to explain the topics really well. All the lectures are recorded so you can rewatch if confused and homework is not too bad. The lab is cool and she usually gives extra credit for each test.
I really enjoyed this teacher. She was a very entertaining professor and made a boring subject fun. Accounting did not click with me, but she helped a lot!
I definitely recommend Mrs. McKinney for AC 211! She's my favorite teacher I've had at UA. She's extremely helpful outside of class and always responds to emails. Weekly homework, 2 exams, and a final were the only assignments. For the honors section, we got to do volunteering through the LIFT program for the lab credit.
Lisa is an amazing professor. She makes lectures so fun and does a great job teaching the basics of accounting. In the honors section we get to participate in a LIFT lab once a week instead of a normal accounting lab. You definitely have to study hard for the exams but if you do all the work you should do well in the class.
Lisa is great and very funny. I just didn't do well in the class cause accounting is hard regardless of the teacher. She is very good and makes class entertaining. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you want to understand the material you should go. Overall, this class stinks cause the material, but she's good!
Mckinney has more personality than any other prof on this campus and she gives a good amount of extra credit. Although this class is extremely hard for some and I just didnt understand the way she taught. Nothing against her but be warned that this class material is horrible if it doesnt click w you right away. I did better in honors chem
Lisa is one of the best professors I've ever had. She teaches accounting in a way that was really understandable. She is the funniest person I've ever met and really cares about her students. You can't go wrong if you take Lisa.
I was unpleasantly surprised the first day, since I'm personally not a fan of her humor or lecture style. While half of the lecture is disengaging and consists of random stories that don't matter, it's very hard to catch up if you miss. She provides so much practice that it's your own fault if you fail. Read the book and do the extra credit.
Lisa does an excellent job turning a very difficult subject into something easier to understand. She wants students to grasp only the basic concepts of tax and holds that standard on her tests. Her lectures and review videos are extremely helpful, and she gives plenty of resources to practice problems and study for tests.
Professor McKinney is one of the best professors I have has at UA. She is engaging and makes the material easy to understand. She also has a great sense of humor. To do your best on the exams, read the textbook and make use of the several resources she provides. This class is exam heavy, but the exams are not made to trick you.
Ms. McKinney is an amazing instructor and hilarious during her lectures. She provides extra credit opportunities for each test and you get to participate in LIFT as opposed to a traditional lab. She's very personable, and you can tell she's passionate about what she teaches.
If you don't find her funny I have very bad news about your sense of humor. It's accounting and this will probably be your first class for it so some people find it hard to click, but if you're trying and paying attention her examples and explanations should help you make sense of it. She knows what she's doing.
Lisa is a good professor and very knowledgeable. Her humor was offensive, and she wasted class time trying to be funny. The LIFT Lab was a great perk, and through that she was a lot better. Her exams do not really reflect the homework, but the learn smarts will help. This class made me change my major out of accounting.
I didn't find her funny and it was very easy to tune out in lecture. I taught myself most of the content and was mostly fine on the tests. The homework took way too long to be worth only 5%. She wastes a lot of time in lecture talking about irrelevant stuff and a lot of her humor felt unintelligent for an honors class. LIFT was very helpful though.
Lisa is a fantastic professor. Really engaging and has a great sense of humor. She is very relatable to students. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you go you will get more out of the class and have a good time. Homework isn't very stressful. Main recommendation: do the learnsmarts and you will be just fine on exams. 10/10
She is a fantastic teacher! She really knows what she's talking about and how to teach it. You do have to study in order to do well on her tests and she offers extra credit opportunities. Her lab is just volunteer work and is very easy.
I love Lisa!! Accounting is very boring (to me personally) but she made it super fun. The tests are very hard, but there are opportunities to earn extra credit, and also drop homework and miss lab. If you have to take accounting, take Lisa!!
Best. Teacher. Ever. If you have to take accounting make sure you get her. She is easily the only reason I was able to pass accounting. I never go to class, but I always went to her lectures. She is easily the funniest teacher I've ever had and makes learning the material actually fun and relatable. Don't take if you don't like a jokester.
hard class. She gives a lot of extra credit to allow for good grades (up to 6 points per test). also the honors lab is extremly easy, you just show up and volunteer for something like teaching old people tech or tutoring kids. She is kinda out there, I find it funny, others may get offended. I dont learn a lot from her lectures tho hard to follow
Her lectures are a little scattered, but she wants to help u. Extra credit for tests and an extra homework drop can be earned. Tests are hard but homework is a pass fail system so u get a good grade boost. She is such a caring teacher. LIFT lab also is an grade boost! Class is hard but doable and if ur in honors college you should pick her!
Professor McKinney is great as a person and makes lectures enjoyable, but tests are not similar to homework and include a lot of definitions not discussed in class. Lab and homework grades will help a lot, but tests are 75% of grade and difficult.
Take this class for AC! Lisa is funny but I taught myself everything bc I did not love her teaching. Homeworks are hard but use textbook solutions to help! Each exam is 25% of grade, study hard & use the Learnsmarts & Textbook vids! This was a hard class (it is a subject that clicks for some ppl & not others) but work hard & u will reap the reward!
Lisa is hilarious and I loved going to her lectures. The LIFT lab was once a week and was easy. Homework took too long to only count for 5% of grade but it helped prepare for test. Test are 75% of grade so read the chapters, do the learnsmarts, and you'll be fine. Lisa is also super accessible and responds quickly. Take her if you can!
Professor McKinney is the best professor you can take for accounting. The class itself is extremely difficult, but she does her best to make it easier. She is very involved in the community and extends her involvement to students through the AC 211 lab.
Worst class experience I have had at UA. I am 91 credit hours in and this is the first class I got a B on. She was unwilling to help me when I reach out. You will learn more about 4 Lokos, SAE, and Wacka Flaka than accounting. I was also told that the lab would be an automatic 100 if you attended, and she gave me a 90. Dont take!!
I struggled to follow her in class, but she was nice and she explained well in class. The way she lectured just wasn't my cup of tea. Exams are quite hard, but the material is as well. The honors labs are nice, volunteering beats an actual lab.
For your lab you do community service and the homeworks have unlimited tries. The exams are more difficult, they require you to fully understand the topics including the nuances and some specific contexts. She offers 6% extra credit per exam earned through additional community service or a project. Overall a great experience.
She is super sweet and sarcastic. Accounting is difficult, and she does not provide super detailed explanations before diving into company's financial statements and going fully into the concept. I would recommend reading each chapter. She tells you not to take notes, just absorb, but that will not work for most students. EC took me from B- to B+.
Mrs. McKinney is awesome- so experienced in her field and engaging in lectures. Accounting is hard, but the HW is helpful and there are extra credit opportunities that can significantly improve your grade. Try to actually understand the HW while you are doing it, because tests focus on the same concepts. The LIFT lab is a blast, so much fun.
Lisa is a great teacher. Accounting is hard but she makes class fun and lectures are filled with jokes. Make sure you pay attention and take notes. There are multiple extra credit opportunities that will boost test grades by 6 points. The LIFT Labs are fun and easy. Tests are hard but studying and talking with her will pay off. Make yourself known
We all know that accounting is difficult but Mrs. McKinney is probably the most helpful and accessible teacher I have ever had. She provides you with numerous opportunities to earn extra credit and do well in the class. All of her notes, recorded lectures and tons of other study materials are on BB. If you have to take accounting, take her!
McKinney is hilarious, and she makes a long class feel short. I enjoyed her lectures, and you will not do well without them. There is also plenty of extra credit.
Mrs. McKinney's AC211 is no walk in the park, but her engaging lectures and helpful support make it manageable. The extra credit opportunities and LIFT Labs are lifesavers. Unstuckstudy AI was a game-changer for my study prep - highly recommend!
GOAT professor. Accounting is boring ash but she makes her lectures actually enjoyable and funny. Tests are also hard but if you pay attention in class you will be fine. She tells the class multiple times a week that she is available if you need help and to text or email her at any time. Labs are also pretty chill and can really boost your grade.
Professor McKinney is the funniest professor you will ever have. I did not expect accounting to be entertaining but she made it. Honestly take this class just to listen to her stories. The tests and homework aren't bad and she gives so many extra credit opportunities. Take this over the regular accounting class it's so much easier.
She talks about inappropriate things all day, and its funny but really weird and makes it hard to follow along bc she talks about everything but accounting. HW weekly, it doesn't do much for ur grade. A lot of extra credit tho. teaching myself was more helpful than her. Not a bad teacher, but if you aren't willing to put extra work in don't take.
Accounting is certainly a subject that people either understand immediately or don't at all, but Professor McKinney does everything she can to make it easy. She's the most reachable Professor I've had, giving us her phone number, and instead of a lab, we volunteer once a week for 20% the grade. Tests are weighted heavily, but she gives lots of EC.
Accouting is very hard in general but McKinney makes it enjoyable. Extra credit is given on every exam which helps balance out the hard tests. If you attend class and take notes you will be very successful. Lab is very easy and you will receive full credit for just showing up.
She isn't the worst and she's a funny lecturer, but she doesn't teach the material well and doesn't have a lot of extra credit at all. How you do on the tests if how you'll do in the class. And the tests are HARD and in my opinion she doesn't prepare you well. She's nice but I do think there are better accounting professors out there.
Very entertaining lecturer, which is impressive for an intro accounting prof. Tries really hard to incorporate lots of humor, which is fun but sometimes distracting. Grading policy is very fair (the 20% service grade is nice). Tons of study materials, which helped me through all of the tests. Loads of extra credit.
McKinney is amazing. Her lectures make accounting so much more enjoyable. She is so funny and strives to make class actually enjoyable and not just boring. She is easy to reach and very accommodating. She genuinely cares about her students and actually helps them to succeed. Labs are easy and worth 20% of your grade. Highly recommend.
Her lectures are so fun, definitely take her, amazing instructor. Super caring for students' performances.
She is a great professor for accounting, and even though she relies on the powerpoint, she will dumb everything down for you to understand. The only thing her exams are both terminology and the problems she will provide, so you will have to do her hw, practice problems, and smartbook to get a good grade on her exam. The labs are easy though
McKinney was great. She entertaining while also still teaching the material. My only complaint is that in order to do well, you MUST do the homework, practice problems, and smartbook questions. She does give a ton of extra credit and the labs are easy and a grade booster. Definitely take her over any other AC 210/211 professor.
Overall, a good professor. Tests are hard so you have to do the extra stuff in blackboard to do well. Labs are super easy and make you feel good doing service around Tuscaloosa.
