You're better off reading the book.
she spends the whole class time explaining practice problem, the textbook is awful, and homework takes 10 years to finish. 1010 would take again.
Mid quarter and I'm liking her class so far. If you go to her office hours. she's more than willing to help. Quizzes are similar to HW's while exams are a bit harder. Sweetest teacher at de anza
She extremely sweet and intelligent but has trouble getting the concepts through to students even to those who have taken Stats before. Luckily she spends a lot of time during office hours trying to help and gives very direct feedback on tests and hw. It is insane how much she cares. There is quite a bit of hw but I 3 when she says "thats the gig"
She is a really nice and sweet teacher, she is willing to help you in the office hour, the test are not hard, you just have to pay attention in class make the homework. There's only 1 pop quiz until now. Would love to take this class again!!
Go to her office hour and you will be fine, she wants her students to do well Do the homework and study your tests and quizzes from it Sometimes her lectures make you want to sleep, but she's great overall
she explains the material well and shes also pretty lenient about the hw and stuffs. as long as you pay attention to her lectures and do the hw, you will get an A.
Ms. Mesh is fantastic! I've never met a professor that is more than willing to help you succeed. Take advantage of her office hours and put effort into your homework and you will be fine. Statistics is a very hard subject and the quarter system doesn't make it easier. You definitely need to work at it no matter what professor you have! A+ Ms. Mesh!
If you need help, definitely ask during office hours. she is extremely helpful and will answer any questions you have and walk you through them until you understand. Class has alot of HW but if you do it, it will prepare you for the test of corse. Very nice lady
I had her class last quarter in the winter and even though I failed her class, I retook it. She is by far one of the nicest teachers I've ever had. She is very helpful, funny and incredibly nice. Her lectures are easy to understand, and She loves to help students pass her class. Tip: Office Hours will help A LOT and Doing the homework.
Weak command of the material, several times she was unable to work out exercises from the text book while lecturing to the class. De Anza's math department is weak enough without a grueling and clueless professor. Do yourself a favor and take math somewhere else. West Valley has a much higher level of completion and success for its students.
Thank you Professor Mesh! This was my second time around with STATs and I was determined to never take it again. Professor Mesh was very clear, patient, helpful, gave good feedback and examples. Oddly enough I now have a love hate relationship with STATs. I see it being applied everyday and I so appreciative to Professor Mesh.
I loved Mesh! I am passing with an A in Statistics. If good at math, you will pass, if bad at math, you will not. We have tests per chapter every Friday, w/ one side note card. We have midterms that are 3 chapters each, & we can use a page of notes. Only get one homework assignment due each week on Friday, but it does take effort. DONT GET TEXTBOOK
Mesh is hilarious & helpful. Her lectures are good. Hwk is easy, 5% e.c. and a cheat sheet on every quiz/test. If you go to class and do the homework this class will be an easy A compared to other math classes. My only complaint is sometimes i feel like I can get away w/ punching things into my calculator w/out really understanding the material.
GREAT TEACHER! She is what the De Anza math department needs! Go over the notes you'll get a good quiz score. Go over the quiz and you'll do great on the test. She does 3 group labs so make sure you partner up with the smart people
I LOVE HER. Mrs Mesh was amazing she is so helpful, she is honestly the best math teacher at de anza. She made everything so easy and clear to understand. she can get a little ahead of her self sometimes but honestly she is the best and she is really there for you to help you do great in her class. As long as you take the test you'll be fine!
Ms. Mesh might be the best teacher I've taken this year. She's a sweet southern woman with a passion for statistics, and makes an effort to reach out to even the most stubborn, uninterested individuals. Pretty quiz/test heavy with about one a week, but they all do good to further your understanding of the course material. Best stats prof. around!
Ms. Mesh is the best teacher that I have ever seen!!! Definitely would take her again.
Professor Mesh is an awesome teacher with a wealth of great knowledge. She used to work at Netflix and she knows her stuff! She cares very deeply about her students and is very approachable. Very light hearted and loves to help! Be proactive ask her questions! No math class is an automatic A if YOU don't put in the EFFORT! PERIOD!
Very sweet & caring, but puts students on the spot too much. She doesn't go too fast during lessons, but does go a bit too slow. Quiz & tests are based on online hw which are easy as long as you study, lots of group labs so choose carefully, easy grader. Very approachable & open for any questions or comments. Drops the lowest score for everything.
The math department at De Anza is pretty bad. However Mesh is an exception. She is a very caring professor, gives feedback, keeps the class material interesting. Her lectures are never boring and makes you understand the material very well. Tests are very common, do the homework AND PAIR UP WITH SMART PEOPLE for group papers. Favorite professor.
Lisa Mesh actually made me look forward to class. Like the other reviewers said, Mesh is extremely charismatic, easy to understand, and genuinely cares that her students are understanding the material. I got a B but definitely could have achieved an A if I asked more questions. GREAT TEACHER!!
Ms. Mesh is truly a gift to De Anza college; every counselor I've met who has found out that I am taking her has called me lucky, and I completely agree. She is incredibly helpful and very eager to make you feel comfortable in the classroom. I am taking the follow-up to the class, and I'm honestly incredibly excited to come back to her class!
She respects everyone but took joking around a bit too far sometimes at least it made the class interesting. Shes a tough grader and very sweet. She will sometimes get cranky and take it out on students but apologizes later. very respectable be ready to do lots of homework.
The best math teacher I have ever had!!!
She's a nice and approachable person, but her expectations are way too high considering she's new to teaching pre-calculus. The worst part about it all is you have to purchase webassign (online homework) which is absolutely dreadful. I'm sure she's a good statistics teacher, as she has told her that is her strong point. BE READY FOR SELF-STUDY!!!!
i took her 4 stats last year, she was very good at teaching the material, so i decide to take her for precalculus math41. She say she new to teaching pre cal and it is apparent. Very heavy homework load, much of not covered in classroom. If you r international student do not take math 41 with mesh, if will hurt your grade. I think of drop and wait
If i only i know this class consist of online material i would not take.... i take this class for lecture and textbook, not for to take online...... Too much self-study difficult for someone who has to manage job and school, but i must finish for i cannot xfer to sfsu without c- or better..
Very kind teacher, she does seem to make a lot of mistakes during lectures, this confuses someone like me who already had a weak math base. Her homework is plentiful and also a lot of the homework is not covered in class. Your best teacher for this class is yourself, buy a textbook and read often. Her lectures are not that helpful.
Not sure why i am self studying if its not an online course. Basic hws are covered in class, but the slightly more advanced topics are for us to decipher. My ed plan is all thrown off because i cant be bothered to self teach myself. You have been warned.
Overall very nice teacher and cares about her students a lot. If you ask her to extend hw she will be more than happy to help you out. Only annoying part is that she makes you use webassign to do hw. When it comes to test and quizzes, they are pretty easy if you do hw. When it comes to teaching, she is okay but could be better.
Webassign is frustrating to use. Quizzes and tests come straight from the homework, so nothing will catch you by surprise. She's aight overall, but coming to class her doing examples straight from the book repeat is not interactive. Expect to self-study that's a given.
Lisa Mesh is one of the best Math teachers I have ever had at De Anza. She really cares about the material and how you're performing in her class. This year she integrated WebAssign into her curriculum and it was pretty buggy. She never hesitated to give us extra credit or shorten the assignments if we said they were too hard. Wonderful woman.
One of the nicest women I have ever met. If you just do the homework and listen to the lecture, you will do fine in this class. If you ever need help with homework or any problems solved in class feel free to ask. Very easy to approach. Would take again.
Not exactly an easy A, especially if you aren't familiar with statistics, but she tries to help students pass by extending due dates and dropping low grades. One thing that stands out about her is how caring she is, she really wants her students to do well. If you pay attention in class and review the homework, then it should be easy to pass.
If you are taking her for stats, you came to the right place. I got her because Houser couldn't make it this quarter, but it was a wonderful pleasant surprise. She is super passionate about stats and just super awesome! She makes sure you understand the material and really cares for you. No lie.. Stats is hard but she makes it as easy as she can :)
I LOVE MRS MESH!!!! she is the best if you get the chance to take her class please do! she is the best at teaching math. She is amazing !!! she really broke down the steps and made it so easy for me. i can't thank her enough
She's uncomfortable for her own works and made lots of mistakes in class which confused students a lot. She told us that it's been a long time for her to solve parametric problems... THEN WHY ARE YOU TECHING IT?!?!
Makes lots of mistakes in class, and she didn't feel confident when solving problems...
Avoid her in math43. She could not even answer homework questions.
Not good at teaching math43. Really terrible
since I saw her rate was not bad, I took her in math 43. This may be the worst decision I've ever made. She makes LOTS of mistakes every class and she seems unprepared for her lecture. She copied her notes on iPad all the time. It's better to self-study rather than wasting time in class
Don't take her if you want a good grade. Makes a lot of mistakes in lecture. Is no help when you ask for homework questions. Gets annoyed and frustrated when you ask questions during lecture.
Professor Mesh is such a great teacher. I've always struggled with Math so I decided to join the MPS program and take her stats class. She goes step by step when going over new materials which helps a lot. Don't miss her class because missing one day feels like missing a whole week. She offers extra credit every now and then. Take her class!!
Impatient with people who aren't naturally good at math, and gets annoyed when people ask questions she thinks you ought to already know. Not helpful during office hours. A veritable blizzard of quizzes, labs, homework- if you take her, plan on spending MOST of your time that quarter handling her workload.
Awesome teacher with a bad reputation. Do the work and you'll pass with ease. She's very helpful and very lenient with her grades.
I had to take math 2 times beforeI passed her class with an A. Wish I would've taken her the first time. seriously take her you won't regret it.
like in any stats class, the material gets hard. You need to study and know when the ask for help. However, Lisa Mesh makes herself easily available by the way she interacts with students. Shes kind, fun, and really cares. She gives you the notes she uses in class, so make sure to print them and make sure to ask her questions if you need to!
Mesh is a very welcoming and supportive teacher. She will do absolutely whatever she can to make sure people feel comfortable and caught up in her class. She is very understanding and has high respect for her students. She allows handwritten cheat sheets for all 3 tests including the final as well as on the quizzes. Hw structure is very helpful.
DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU WANT AN A or B
Mesh is a great professor. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong. She is accessible outside of class and often spends time helping students even if her office hours are over. She gives a lot of partial credit on tests and takes out unfair questions. She gives lots of extra credit. You HAVE to work hard, but she's great. Exams are easy if you study.
Ok here's what up: nice lady, kind heart, warm soul, wants the best for you, 10/10 human being. She's an alright teacher and either goes through things too slowly or too fast. If it's your first time taking any precalc 1 related things--don't recommend. If you already know your stuff/familiar with the content then you're fine.
As much as I loved her as a person, and as much as a great statistician that she is during class I was so bored and on top of that everything that was in the lectures weren't ever in the tests/quizzes and if they were it was something that was shown in a completely different way then how she had shown it before...
She is a very enthusiastic teacher I'll give her that. But whenever she lectures about a section, its not really clear on how get gets certain values AND she tends to make MANY mistakes. It's understandable mistakes do happen, but its frustrating how she creates very difficult exams and excepts us to know when she didn't throughly explain the secti
Ms. Mesh was the most down to earth and understanding teacher I have ever had! Something I truly love about her is that she is understanding. I enjoyed doing the homework on paper, rather than Webassign. Exams can be difficult, but with proper studying you should be fine. She grades very reasonably and offers extra credit opportunities.
Many people struggled in class but people always struggle in Math. She is the best Math professor at De Anza. She TRULY cares about her students and only wishes the best for them. Yes, she may make mistakes but that's because she's going over hundreds of problems a day with students like us. She's bound to get some wrong. Anyways best math teacher.
She is super caring, we could use a cheat sheet every test and quiz.
Math 10 was a breeze after my teacher was injured and I got switched to Lisa Mesh. I immediately started doing better in the class and I actually like coming to class. Lisa Mesh was always super helpful and she tried to make the class easier. I would definitely take her again! It's not the easiest A, but I am not god with math and I did really well
Easy Stats class, she's really cool and cares about her students. If you ask for help she will do her best to personally help you 10/10 recommend
Very fun teacher! Goes over the topics together with you, and is really neat and organized :)
She is a very helpful professor and cares a lot about her students. She lets you bring notes to quizzes and exams. Thanks to her, I got to be a math tutor in S43!
Wonderful person! Class only met 2x a week and that made it difficult to learn the material. We barely had time to practice homework/concepts in class, only a couple of examples. That made completing homework occasionally frustrating. Keep in touch with classmates for help. I wish I had used her office hours.
She is very nice and does respond to emails pretty fast. I had her during this whole virus, so taking math online is harder. She knows what she is doing and also hands out a lot of work. There were 4 exams plus a final. She is a lot of work but she is a good professor for precalc. Notes will help!
She is well taught and helps really well. She also explains very well and you need to take notes in her class. There were about 4 exams plus a final. She does emails so make sure you check those as well!
She is very understanding and helpful! shes also a good grader and will give feedback! shes super nice as well
She doesn't teach in class she will post lecture videos on canvas and you will have to watch it before the next class period. Theres a quiz every class day. She also puts things she didn't teach on tests, and will get annoyed and mad if you don't know something or ask for clarifications.
I have taken Mesh twice for stats and pre calc and I LOVE HER!! Trust me do the homework and you'll understand the concepts, she's so caring and wants her students to succeed! Really wish she taught calc 1A
I got a C but all me, not her. Online, chapter notes are provided by prof, lecture videos available all week, no meeting time, you control your own pace. Do the weekly discussions (15% whole grade), do the homework and quizzes. No late submission policy but again you have the whole week. Easy A if I tried. I hate math and she made the class easy.
Hardest thing about this class is keeping up with notes, which are pre-recorded zoom lectures. Her actual class repeats the notes, so it's not that helpful. Assignments include online homework, quizzes, exams, discussion topics, and labs. Ms. Mesh is also very fun and caring, just show that you're participating otherwise she gets annoyed.
There is no reason on earth she should be a 3.7/5. She is an amazing instructor, our class was 100% online and most of the learning is done thru pre recorded lecture. TAKE TIME, to watch them and take notes. There will be no reason on earth you'll get below a A-B. Unlimited tries on HW, and 2 tries on Test. Participant! Take Notes!
Extremely helpful and caring. Makes math easy to understand, especially for someone who hates math (like myself). Do the homework consciously, take notes on lectures, and you'll get an A
Professor Mesh is a wonderful teacher and person. She was always available both in and outside of class. During the quarter she provided the class with pdf notes that she thoroughly went through during class time. Homework had multiple tries available and consist of 25% of the grade. Exams were very similar to the homework and straightforward.
Professor Mesh is very caring. Just complete all the assignments and you will be fine. She is very helpful and considerate. I really recommend taking this course with her.
Very helpful and straightforward professor
She is super nice and understanding. The workload can get heavy if you have bad time management. Homework and quizzes/exams are done on myopenmath. You need to attend the lectures in order to understand the material. Towards the end, she opens all previous chapter homework to review for the final exam and if you want a higher score on the homework.
ok well it was statistics i didn't expect it to be easy, but Professor Mesh in every lecture would talk about how most people fail her class. she's a good person, but i think it's a big problem if that's the case. i didn't do as well as i would have wanted due to workload, but it's not bad if you pace urself & make sure you don't fall behind
Professor Mesh is a caring and thoughtful teacher. She understands that statistics is difficult. Her lectures can be fast paced but she provides ample resources online: her lectures, class notes, add'l workbook w/answers. 1 page notes for tests/quizzes. The middle of class is the hardest part. By the end, it will all make sense. Recommend strongly.
Pros: Easy homework and discussions online. Video notes available online to refer back to. Tests/quizzes are direct. Helpful teacher Cons: Her lecture is quite fast due to the short hours we have each week. She does makes minor mistakes during her lecture/notes. Sometimes, I question my notes if they're wrong or right. Do the work and u'll b ok
She teaches off a nice note guide. Homework is through myopenmath. She was chill throughout the quarter. There are quizzes and exams but she let us bring in a cheat sheet. Since it's intro stats and everything is just calculator input, that makes things a lot easier. If you want to take this class, I would recommend her.
Professor Mesh is such a kind and truly caring teacher. She goes out of her way to get to know her students and makes sure they have the tools for success in future classes. She really focuses on the fundamentals of math and genuinely cares for her students. I would definitely recommend her for any class!
Not a bad professor, just somewhat unclear at times. I was annoyed by the fact that she redistributed her grade weighting last second before entering grades, which completely changed mine and my classmates' grades. Her grade weighting is very exam-oriented, which would be fine if she had it set correctly on Canvas to begin with.
I have taken both her precalc classes and 1A as well. I got A+ in both precalc but B in calc (my own fault). She is an extremely kind and goofy person. Extremely understanding, willing to help in any way possible. Fast paced lectures, homework is harder than exams tbh. Test/quiz questions closely resemble her notes. Allows notes on every test/quiz
She cares about students, and wants to make sure you succeed.
Don't take her if you are taking any other courses this quarter. Each 50-minute class somehow produces 2-3 hours of homework per day, quizzes are every week, and, even though they wouldn't do much to your grade, doing 10-12 tough questions in 40 minutes often leaves unanswered questions and her partial credit is extremely minimal. Overall 2/10
She cares about her students, yes, but the homework are often almost 30 questions with only a week to do 2 or 3 of them. She said that the homework is harder than the tests but homework is only worth 10% of your grade. She often has you do homework for the next chapter even though you have not completed class notes or quizzes yet.
Her lectures are pretty clear but way too much homework to finish in time. She also posted the lecture notes on canvas, and we also had to watch online lectures over the weekend. I ended up not doing a lot of the homework and missing the last 2 weeks and still passed the class. The only reason I wouldn't take the class again is the homework.
SO MANY HOMEWORKKK, each week somehow had 2-3 hours of homework and its 30% of your grade???????? trust me do not take this class. For the first time pre-calc felt like hell...
She is the most amazing professor I have ever met! Also awesome as a person! CARING, APPROACHABLE, UNDERSTANDING!!! She explains the lectures in detail and clearly. The classes were not hard at all for me, but I would say they were also not easy. If you are willing to learn, take her class!
A great professor who truly cares about her students. She is passionate about the subject and will do what she can to help you. Her class has a lot of homework and weekly quizzes that are worth 100 points. She drops the lowest home works, quizzes and class-works which is a plus. Her tests are pretty hard so study outside of class is a must.
Professor Mesh is one of the best professors at De Anza. I never once felt unprepared for a test, homework load was reasonable (despite what others say here), and she teaches math in a way that stuck with me so well that I don't think I would've passed my Phys4B class if I hadn't taken her class. She is incredibly kind and caring.
I took both of her Pre-calc classes, both were amazing. Coming straight from HS, she helped me greatly with my transition to college. She's deeply caring and supportive. Don't worry about the HW concerns, most of the older reviews are outdated. Now its a relatively manageable workload. She grades partially on quizzes and exams. Study+lock in = pass
Professor Mesh is a kind woman who truly wants to see nothing but success from her students. So many homework assignments that are 25+ questions with such little time and worth a lot. The homework doesn't really help with quizzes/tests, you really have to know the steps and rules to solve a problem.
Contrary to other reviews, Prof. Mesh doesn't give much homework but I will say she is a tough grader. Knocks points off labs for minor reasons and is firm. Also does not round unless its .5 within the next grade. F.e. 89.3 would not be rounded to an A. Wish I knew this before taking the class, as she is VERY firm in this policy.
Lisa Mesh is truly passionate about what she does and wants to see you succeed. Her sense of humor might be odd to some people, but the very fact that she tries makes it precious. The only problem is that she does not use the textbook at all. We had to pay 60$ for an e-book just so we could do the homework on Webassign.
Brings a level of caring and understanding to teaching that I haven't experienced with other professors here. As someone who struggles with math, it's great to have a professor who is supportive of all students, not only the top performers in class. I took both precalc and Math1A with her, and was given a great foundation for the rest of calculus!
She truly cares for students, but her exams are brutal. Exams have double the amount of questions on quizzes but not as much time. Lots of homework but lectures are very straightforward. If you can self-study well then you'll be fine. Overall just do lots of individual practice and review to pass her class.
13 Chapters covered-Weekly Quizzes have 3x5 in. card for notes-Tests/Exams have 1 page of notes front and back for notes-Weekly Hmk-Clearly Wants the best for students. Final Exam has 2 pages front and back for notes-Very engaging lectures-HMK is free-3 Labs solo or trio-Pay attention to lectures (if you attend)-watch weekend videos-you'll be fine-
Lets say that Math10 is a class with okay level of difficulty, I am really bad at math so it was hard. But in general it is okay. Compared to other students you can tell who she likes best based on participation (not even) I sent her an email requesting help, and she did nothing more than be petty. She explodes when you crack your joints. Hate it
Professor Mesh is a very caring professor and gives you notecards for quizzes, a sheet of paper for midterms, and two sheets for finals. She is also very accessible outside of class. As long as you participate in class, ask questions, do the homework, and take the class seriously you can succeed.
If you are not strong in math, find a different professor. Not bad at teaching, but very fast paced and VERY test heavy. I think this class works best if you are a quick learner as well as not lazy.
She is amazing! Recommend to everyone.
Professor Mesh is full of energy and passion. She may come off as tough or strict at first, but at the end of the day she wants her students to pass. She is quite lenient and allows notes for all tests, including the final. The class can be tough at times so it does require your full attention. But she is a very competent teacher.
