great student discussion; not an easy teacher but worth the effort
I didn't realize how good she was until I had other instructors.
interesting class, lisa knows her facts and gives really good example. She creates a really fun and comfortable classroom setting. i would take other classes with her
Very good teacher and a very good and informative class!
Probally the best Social Work instructor at UCFV

Wonderful and lovely. Lisa has a great spirit and a genuine passion for social work. She really wants you to understand the material not just from a text book level, but what it actually means. She is very fair and helpful. Highly recommended!
Excellent teacher. I enjoyed her very much. she was very knowledgeable of the field, took it in a condensed summer semester, seems like a lot that way... wouldnt recommend it. Shes lovely though.
She is passionate about social work, but that passion often comes across as judgemental and extremely biased. I found her to be aggressive and impatient toward ideology that she does not consider valid. It felt as though students were afraid to speak their minds in her class - particularly if you don't agree with her biases.
She is very passionate about what she is teaching, but extremely biased. The material is outdated & from the U.S. She is a nice person, but has high expectations and gives a ton of work. Good Luck!
She's passionate and she has a lot of knowledge to impart. Unfortunately she doesn't know how to effectively explain concepts and theories. Her teaching method is confusing and frustrating. She is vague about her assignment expectations but critical when marking. I would love to have coffee with Lisa but I would hate to take another class with her.
Very knowledgeable, has lots of social work experience and examples, but hard to understand, does not explain concepts properly. Can be confusing.
very flexible, a little hard to understand but is fair with marking assignments and exams.- pretty good teacher overall
Lisa's classes have many, many readings. She summarizes them moderately in her PowerPoint presentations. She is brilliant, but I believe cannot effectively communicate with average intelligence people. Her classes are interesting and she shares several personal and professionally relevant stories to future social workers.
Lisa was very knowledgeable about the course, however she was not very helpful when it came to helping her students with what we should actually study for the exams. As a result, the midterm average was 64-66% and about the same on the final
Has high expectations. Responds to emails and questions right away. Supports students and is passionate. Does not lecture in traditional way so don't expect traditional lectures. Teaches through cases and examples.
I've taken many social work courses with Lisa. She challenges me every time! Lisa is tough, she expects a lot from her students... But from herself as well. If you are looking for the easy-peasy, feel good SW instructor, keep looking.... It will be a love- hate relationship, but you'll learn lots!
She understands the pressure of being a student. Uses lots of current examples from the news. Likes using cases. Clear study guides and exams and assignments are fair. Cares about good writing.
She loves social work. Doesn't lecture from book but gives detailed slides. She wants students to do well. Saw her during office hours for extra help.
She loves social work.
Very good at engaging the class. Passionate about the topic.
Moy is very dedicated to teaching her classes. She is passionate about the topics and gives great lectures. You need to pay attention to lectures as well as use the textbook to succeed. Very willing to give help if needed. Work hard and it will pay off in more than just your grades.
Lisa is a very inspirational person, she loves what she does. If you read the chapters assigned before each class you just have to listen to her lectures. Lectures include videos and articles. She has practice questions online which she pulls the questions from so make sure to do those!
please, I beg you, save your money , and your sanity. The only thing you do is watching movies that you don't even remember for the exam. Then she expect you to know the movie and the book that she did not cover at all. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR SANITY.
She is professional and she cares about her students.
amazing lectures, would take classes with her again, quite clear on grading and assignments. THERE FOR YOU!!!
Great teacher. Interactive class with group discussions and multimedia sources that I found helpful. No study guide for the exams but material and textbook are not too difficult to study. Would take her as a social work teacher again!
Bam, Lisa Moy- one of the most professional profs I have met at UFV. Very passionate and great advocate for students and their studies. Intimidating, however, VERY knowledgable. Would suggest her if you want to learn about social work and how it is relevant in today's date and age.
Amazing teacher. Used lots of different resources to keep course interesting. Great guest speakers and good class discussions. Exams were fair and she helped us prepare and study for the exams.
Have taken two classes with Lisa and she was very fair. Helps students and keeps the classes interesting. No group projects (good). Prepared the class for exams.
Lisa Moy is a great prof! She is very caring and understanding but this class is not an easy A you really have to work hard. Make sure you are doing your weekly readings as they are crucial for the MIDTERM. The midterm is intense, however you get a lot of options so as long as you know your material you will do well. Overall it's a great class! :)
3 years at UFV and I've never felt so inspired by a prof. Lisa an educated, empowering, down-to-earth gift to the school. I wish she taught more courses
Lisa is an inspiring, gentle and pleasant woman. I enjoyed her class, and I enjoyed being around her. She is one tough marker! That is the only reason I wouldn't take her class again.
Dude this class blew my mind. Lisa is really knowledgable and passionate about social work, does an amazing job of relating the course material to current events, and also places a lot of focus on self reflection and unpacking your own assumptions and biases. Also helpful exam study guides.
Lisa is very knowledgeable! With her lectures you can see she is very passionate about what she does. Pay attention to the movies you watch and class assignments as those are on the exam. She also gives online participation grades which can help to lift your grade up! Tough marker
She is a difficult marker and does not explain assignments properly which makes it difficult to achieve a good grade. Shes a good person but wont take her class again
Lisa, very passionate and sincere. Yet, had the most boring lectures EVER! Hardly goes through her slides in class, so you are expected to do it on your own time. Every single class you have short class discussions, and watched video after video. Nice Lady, Horrible Teachings.
Lisa was a remarkable and unique professor. She uses real-life experiences as examples, and her lectures are always so interesting. She really values participation and getting into groups to discuss which I found really helpful. She is passionate about what she does and really wants her students to do well. Very well-respected and professional.
Tough grading, but it's worth it. She knows everything there could be to know about the field, and more. She relates stories and real life circumstances to her teaching. She is passionate and inspirational, everything I learn from her I know will be important. She not only teaches the necessities, but she opens your mind. She is very insightful.
One word: amazing. I love this prof, Lisa is so passionate about her line of work and that goes into her teachings. She is not your typical prof, she does things her own way. I highly recommend taking her class. Every class goes by quick and fun for me. She is bubbly and outgoing. Although she may not remember your name, you will remember hers.
Took this class. Lisa is a hard marker and her exams are also difficult. Her lectures are super interesting though, her stories are super inspirational. Not an easy A type of class.
Lisa was a great professor for this class. She has a clear passion for all of the topics, and her lectures made a theory-heavy class interesting. Definitely showed genuine care and understanding towards the entire class. Because of the nature of the class, the textbook was vital, and the exams were memory-heavy, but what else do you expect?
Doesn't give typical lectures so her class involves a lot of group work and reading. However, she posts powerpoints that provide most of the info you need to remember for tests. Fair marker, but midterm consisted of about 4 chapters while the exam covered 9! Could be spaced out more evenly, but will give her a break b/c we lost 1 class due to snow
Lisa is an amazing professor that I hope to have the pleasure to have again. I would recommend her to literally anyone and everyone. Not textbook heavy at all but make sure to read it for exams if you really want the best grades possible. She gives really good feedback and many opportunities for help and improvement so long as you ask. 10/10
Gives good feedback and I really enjoyed the lectures. Would take this prof again
one of my favourite teachers yet! her classes consisted of watching videos on the topics and discussing issues related to them. you also do a few grp projects and a paper. she posts slides of all the chapter materials and videos online too to prepare for exams. I learned so much in this class, highly recommend to anyone interested in social work!
Great class. Loved the proffesor
I'm not sure what to make of Lisa, she seems a bit jaded.
She is incredible. Try to take one of her classes. She teaches courses about racism and disability, and first year classes as well. You have to work hard for grades but she is fair.
Lisa's passion for social work and student success is very evident. She is a very busy lady, so some classes were online. Lots of videos, news articles and discussion in class. She challenges students to think deeply and put in your best effort. If you're prepared to read the textbook and do the work, your marks will show it. Plus, bonus marks!
Lisa is an amazing prof. She really cares about people and her job, you can just tell. She uses a lot of her life experiences in her lectures and always keeps things interesting. Would 10/10 recommend her to anyone.
What I appreciate about Lisa is she not only does an effective job conveying the course material but also embodies the values of social work that she teaches. She related many topics to her own experiences in the field and remained intent on emphasizing nonjudgment and compassion. Both passionate and straight-to-the-point about content.
Lisa was a great prof to take for my first semester. There is an annotated bibliography, a research paper and a midterm/final in her class which accounts for your mark. She makes it very clear whats going to be on the exams and how theyre structured and is very understanding. She is a also a very fair marker on the paper.
Lisa is a great prof, especially for a first year course. Very clear instructions and you have a chance to get feedback before you do your final paper. She is a very fair marker and you can tell she really cares about her job and her students.
Lisa (she likes being called Lisa) is smart, passionate and demanding. She uses multiple modes of learning in her class, serving different learning styles. She is excessively critical in marking papers, yet despite framing her class in emotional safety, doesn't abide open critical reflection about ideologies that are part of course content.
I LOVED Lisa. She's great at explaining what she wants/expects of you. She gives good feedback and shows you how/what you should be studying. She's happy to answer questions and doesn't get annoyed by them. Lisa is a very understanding and accommodating professor and will do her best to help. I'd take another course with her if given the chance.
Lisa expects a lot from students but it's clear she also cares about students. Took an online class from her and it was a good experience.
Lisa was a great professor, she was very understanding of the fact that it was a very heavy course load in a short amount of time. She was always very caring and checking in with students on a human level. Participate in every assignment even if it is only worth a small amount, it add ups in the end and will save you.
Lisa is a very nice prof, she warns you at the beginning of the semester this is a loaded class and she was not wrong. there is a lot of reading, but it is important- she goes through it in her lectures that week. She is good with incorporating videos in her teaching and ensuring her students take care of themselves. hard subject but well taught.
Lisas class consists of one 3 page paper, a presentation, midterm & final. She is a nice prof, but she did not space the chapters out. The final has 7 chapters and the midterm had 4. Study guide was very vauge as well, basically tells you to study everything. Her class is doable, but a bit much for a first year course.
Lisa is an amazing teacher. She shares many personal stories and always inspires thought-provoking discussion in the class. She also grades assignments quickly, makes her expectations very clear, gives bonus marks, and she is very accessible outside of class. If you put in the work you will get a good mark and be a better person for it.
Easily the best instructor Ive ever had. Lisa is professional and pragmatic, but also empathetic and kind. The work load is intense, but Lisa is a fair (and fast) marker, and youll gain so much from her course. Much of the grade (60%) centres around three interrelated op-ed assignmentschoose your topic carefully!
Lisa Moy is a hard grader, she expects detailed essays on complex topics but requires them to be under 5 pages. Her exams are difficult. Lots of reading in her classes as well as videos to watch. The asynchronous classes had just as many slides as the synchronous classes.
Prof. Moy is kind and cares about your success in her class. She is very passionate about social work and the class and it shows through the effort she puts in. She works very hard to make the class environment welcoming and friendly, which can be difficult in an online course. The course material she provides is powerful and meaningful.
Lisa is such a sweet soul! She really cares about her students and wants you to succeed! Her course was decently heavy and there was a lot of material to go over and remember. You need to do the readings and work for your mark. Online she was very organized and had lots of opportunities for you to get extra help.
Great professor who has a great soul. She definitely cares about the material she teaches and also cares for you as well. The class was material heavy which I found to be difficult (lots of reading). Other than that I would highly suggest her as a prof.
Amazing prof
I had Lisa after my prof had to go on leave. She was nice but it was the most disorganized online class I had ever taken. She took FOREVER to reply to emails, took ages to grade our ONE assignment (2 parts to 1 assignment). I'm sure if she hadn't taken over after a few weeks it would be a lot different but I don't think ill take her class again.
Lisa is a great prof who is empathetic and is aware of the difficulties students may be experiencing. She does her best to compensate for every student and she is a fair marker. We had one essay, and asides from that just a lot of textbook readings. The exams were fairly easy if you study the textbook. Overall, Lisa is a great prof.
Lisa is amazing. She's tough, but she really cares about her students and cares about what she is teaching. SOWK 320 is intense - but such a worthwhile course. Make sure to do ALL the readings as they're important for the discussions, midterm, and op-ed. Attend office hours so you can get to know Lisa - she's always willing to help and answer q's.
Lisa is amazing she is a hard marker but she is one of the sweetest professors. You learn so much in her class and I will forever be thankful for this class. It is a lot of readings every week so do not keep it till the last minute and stay on top of it. Lisa is an amazing professor and you learn a lot in her class.
Lisa is one of the best profs i've had. I highly recommend taking her courses if you have a chance. You will have to work for your grade but her teaching style makes you want to do well. She's engaging, passionate, and encourages you to push yourself. Her lectures are interesting and readings are stimulating and relevent!
I really enjoyed having Lisas semester. She goes above and beyond for her students and will make sure that you are getting the grade that you deserve. I highly recommend her for future students, and I would take her again
LOVE LISA. If you ever get to take her course, you'll learn SOOOO much and be also challenged to the maximum level. She has a lot of homework & readings. She can be quite intense during class. But she is the sweetest human being on the planet. She really cares about her students and wants them to succeed.
I LOVED taking this class with Lisa. She cares for her students and takes time to check in with them. Bonus points for attending office hours because she wants to get to know her students. Facilitated online class in a way that was engaging and fostered connection between students. Taught by exploring real life situations, current events.
I did like the class and learned a lot. I would recommend it but it was difficult for a first year course, she's a tough grader. The mid term covers a lot of heavy topics, the final was a lot easier in my opinion. You have to read an entire textbook besides one chapter and really dive into each concept taught.
Lisa is an absolute gem! She truly cares about her students, and really does give great content for class readings and lectures. It is a very reading heavy course, and can become overwhelming. So keep up with this class, it's easy to get behind. She's hard on the marking, but explains her expectations well enough. Would take Lisa again despite this
Lisa is by far one of the best professors I have had. She cares deeply about her students and if you are putting in the effort she will do all she can to assist you. Lots of textbook reading and multi media resources, which are very helpful in understanding concepts. She is an amazing professor.
Lisa truly does want all of her students to succeed not only in the classroom, but outside of it as well. Although she does expect her students to work for their grades, she provides great guidance and support along the way. Expect to be reading quite a bit for this course. FYI her midterm is not as daunting as it may seem; she prepares you well.
When I started class with Lisa I was nervous because she seemed tough and stern, but as the semester went on I grew to really appreciate her. She can be tough, but she is also very caring and you can tell she really cares about what she teaches. it's a tough course simply for the sheer amount of content, but I would highly recommend Lisa.
Lisa was an amazing teacher, She was very flexible and willing to work with each student in order for them to understand the content and feel confident. There was a lot of reading, and it was very content heavy but overall Lisa made art as enjoyable as it could be.
I really enjoyed her class. The assignments were clearly explained showing how she graded. She provided weekly quizzes for you to do at home, which helped with studying for midterm and final. She is easy to approach for feedback or questions. You could tell she genuinely cares for people.
Loved this class and her style of teaching, I am a really slow learner and struggle a lot and she not only made it easier for me to understand and participate but also really cared for each one of her students.
Lisa is a passionate professor. She doesn't shy away from topics that make people uncomfortable. She says it like it is. Her grading criteria is clear. She follows through with her words, marks fairly, challenges you. Reading and material heavy, but lectures and class discussions are meaningful. Most learning and growth within my degree thus far.
Lisa has taught me a lot in this class. The amount of reading is ridiculous, it's way too much. She comes across very blunt but I think she generally is caring and wants you to succeed. Can be confusing on expectations of assignments.
Lisa is amazing! My absolute favourite prof. Her passion for the subject comes across in her teaching. Lectures are thorough and engaging, more so than any other course I had that semester. There IS a lot of reading but everything she assigns is relevant and impacting. I enjoyed corresponding with her.
I learned so much in Lisa's class. I really appreciated the in class discussions. This class had the most reading I have ever needed for a class, but it was all relevant and important. She is a tough grader but she gives clear expectations, and will make time to explain assignments and give examples in class.
Dr. Moy is passionate about social work. Her classes can get very heavy but she's kind and approachable. She is intimidating but worth learning from. She is quite knowledgeable and cares so much about students.
Phenomenal professor. The reading/skimming of material was important but her lectures were amazing. I left her class feeling ready to change the world and it really solidified my career path. She was always available during office hours even if you just wanted to debrief your learning in class. Can't wait to take another one of her classes.
Lisa is my favourite prof I have had thus far. She can come off quite serious and intimidating but she's kind and really passionate about social work and her job. If you take SOWK 110 as a condensed course, get ready to read basically the whole textbook within 6 weeks. Will definitely take her classes again in the future. Fav class so far!!
It was awful! Just don't take her class. TRUST ME. Specially if you're a first year student.
Lisa is supportive and caring. You can tell she loves teaching. Going to her office hours was so helpful.
Get ready to take notes and pay attention in class. If you want to do well you need to go to class. If you want more than a C getting and reading the textbook is recommended.
AMAZING!!! Would take 10 more classes with Dr. Moy She was very engaging throughout her lectures and made learning fun. She is a very caring prof and always gives great feedback and will give dedicated time during office hours to help with any questions or concerns. 10/10
Lisa is a caring professor who makes the content engaging. Though the workload is heavy, using Unstuck AI alongside the textbook helped me ace the class. Definitely take her again!
Most amazing prof I have ever taken (in my second year of full-time schooling). HIGHLY recommend. Very caring and knowledgeable. Office hours are an absolute must, even if you don't have questions!! Literally just join and chat with her for 5-10 minutes, it is great. She's the best, seriously.
