An excellent teacher with a passion for Anth. Her lectures are clear although expectations are sometimes not. A minor paper, tests are fairly difficult. A fantastic speaker who tries to make everything understandable to everyone.

She was an excellent instructor. She was quite passionate, and made you think critically of the world and the people in it. If I at all believed in evolution, I would definitely be taking Anthro as my major because of her class.

Well, she tries hard to be a good professor but doesn't pull it off. She seems a bit unsure of herself academically, on any topic besides archaeology anyway. Hard-ish tests, fairly boring lectures, but could be worse

Most anal prof ever has extemely unfair questions on tests and expects far too much work for intro level course seems like she trys to teach master's students rather than teaching an intro class if you're trying to boost your GPA DO NOT GET THIS PROF she will who work you too hard for an intro class

Lisa is the most amazing prof. I have ever had! She is passionate and knowledgeful, and she engages the class in interesting discussion. I have found her to be willing to help me even after I wasn't in any of her classes anymore. She has high standards for grammar, but certainly not unattainable.

I really loved her class, though I had planned on hating it!She really made me want to take anthro as my major, because she was so passionate, and makes you know that you can make a difference in the world if you try.Her exams require you to actually be in class and study, no slackers should bother.

She's great and a very nice person. The 2 Anthro courses I've taken have been very easy and Lisa attempts to gain a more reasonable class average by making long exams and insisting that you know your stuff well to do well. Imagine that! If she was easy on such a simple subject the class avg would be 90 and it wouldn't be transferable. Try reading!

Retarded tests, will have a heart attack if you even so much as whisper out of turn in her class. Her midterm will be the hardest test most people will ever write. An adjusted class average on her midterm was 56%, other classes in Mac were in the 80's. If you value your GPA, take the course with another prof cause you will not enjoy this one

Lisa is a good professor, I will give her that, but she is one of those people who is liberal to the point of being well, not liberal anymore. She needs to remember she is teaching an anthro class... that is what a student cares about, and your "resl world" example of ethnocentrism is useless and LAME...

Want to boost your GPA? try studying. Intro doesnt actually mean easy. Yes Lisa's exams are long but not hard. You use every possible minute to write the exam but if you study you'll breeze through it. She's funny and interesting. So she doesnt like it if you talk in class. Im sure you can keep your mouth shut for the duration of it. Shes great!!!

Lisa is a wonderful prof in that she is approachable and clear on what she expects from her students. Exams are based on lectures mostly, the book defintely helps. Very clear on what is being marked on in assignments. She will not tolerate any form of racism or discrimination. Taking her class boosted my GPA.

I can't believe this prof gets good ratings. Tests are written in a way that ensures half the class fails. Readings provide vague insights into the material if you can get by all the rhetoric and banter. Basically there is a ton of effort you must exert into this class in order to recieve a passing grade but don't count on it being a high pass.

There must be one person who keeps posting that Lisa is a good prof because the consensus around Mac is that she's evil. She runs her class like a bootcamp. Needs to lighten up, trying way too hard to change the world through her lectures. If she wasn't so serious about herself and her ideologies people could actually learn something from her.

in the 3 years since i took this class i haven't met anyone who doesn't like Lisa as a prof. her tests challenge you to do your readings and study. in regards to her problems with talking in class, my hat's off to her. i paid to take this class and want to hear my prof, not the people behind me. if you want to talk just don't come to class. great!!

I really enjoy anthropology because of Lisa. She's got a bit of a dark sense of humour, which sits fine with me because I'm the same way, but it ties in with class lectures. Her powerpoint notes are good, and she leaves them up long enough for you to get it all down. Make sure to go to class because she doesn't give her notes out if you miss class.

I think she is a great teacher. She tests very fair on content that she emphasizes in class. You need to attend the class to do well because the text isn't helpful but the lectures are great and very interesting. I skip alot of classes and this is one I wouldn't even want to.

Um, I'm not too sure what class the whiners were taking but it sure wasn't one of Lisa's. You guys must be the hugest slackers and wish you could get marks for breathing. Lisa has to be one of the best profs I have ever had and I am trying to get into another one of her classes because she rocks!

she's a good teacher with clear lectures and interesting material, but she'll try to shove her POV down your throat. She encourages class discussions that have little to do with course material, and when she gets off topic, she'll go on hearsay-based diatribes without any evidence to support her outrageous claims. A fun class though.

Can't believe the bad comments! Amazing teacher, very passionate. Extremely easy class. All you had to do is show up and write the notes. Her questions on the exams are practically exactly from the notes or disscussions in class. Read the text for the mutiple choice though...

Awesome teacher. One of my favourite. She is funny and engaging. Passionate about her subject but doesn't impose her beliefs on you. Her tests are extremely straightforward. Attend the lecture and take notes and you will do absolutely fine.

Lisa gives highly detailed exams, so be prepared for that. There is alot of reading involved in this course, and you will need to do it if you want an A or B. She doesn't give out notes if you miss class, so I'd recommend not missing it. Not the hardest class, even the average slacker can pull off a B.

Ok, I had to pipe in here and give my 2 cents because I am really shocked that people actually have anything bad to say about this prof. She is extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and encourages discussion. She tells you what will be on the exams, so as long as you pay attention and take the provided notes, you won't be surprised about exam content.

I had Lisa for the majority of my anthro classes at MacEwan and if I had the option I would take more through her. I found her to be a wonderful teacher. She is passionate, humorous, and intelligent. She DOES NOT run her class like a bootcamp and course work is expected to get a good grade. A's and B's don't come for free kids.

I wish I could take all my Anth classes from her. I also really like how she gets to know each student and she treats you like an equal. :)

Fun Prof, had lots of good examples to explain notes. That said, she sometimes gets a bit off topic and our class was behind schedule because of that. Her first 2 midterms are fair and generally easy if you're in class and do the readings. The final was more difficult before. A lot of specificity. Overall she was fun and fair.

Lisa made me love anthropology. I may be taking anthropology as a minor because of her passion and enthusiasm. I'd recommend her classes to anyone. very fair, exams are not too hard, and she makes creative ways to remember things, such as "the zombie apocalypse".

Lisa is an extremely passionate teacher and keeps you drawn in constantly. All I can say is she is amazing! However, her tests are absolutely brutal, but she is willing to help everyone. This course is extremely challenging, and she is a hard marker! I would recommend this class if you are willing to work hard.

Lisa is definitely passionate about Anthro, which makes the course interesting. Her class notes were good, but I did find the readings from the textbook to be boring and lengthy. She tests from her in class notes, so attendance is recommended. Overall she's a good professor who truly does want her students to succeed. Very interesting course/prof.

Awesome teacher! By far my favorite class this term. She makes learning fun and interesting. As long as you come to class, make notes and do the readings you should be able to get a good mark no problem. Also, she likes class discussion so if there's something the class brings it up and is relevant she will talk about it and even put it on the exam

THIS CLASS WILL NOT BOOST YOUR GPA. Tests are ridiculously difficult. Unless you wrote the textbook or are an archaeologist during the summer you will have a very hard time receiving even a decent grade. Class average was 66% on first midterm and 58% on the second. Avoid her at all costs.

Lisa is amazing! My favorite prof out of all the ones I've had at GMAC. So passionate and funny, makes lectures really interesting. I don't know why people are saying it's impossible to get a good mark. Go to class and take notes, and do all the readings, but reading everything just once worked fine for me. Such a good prof.

Lisa is passionate about anthro, which makes her good to listen to. Her guidance for her exams was somewhat vague because she says that she tests everything. Make sure you copy down every example she uses. It's a good class to have later in the day. Avoid 8 am time slots if possible.

It is clear she is very passionate about anthropology, however, for an entry level class her expectations are too high. Expects you to " study everything because I test everything." I would avoid taking her class unless you have a pictographic memory because her tests are ridiculous. The class average for every test was around 58%

Go to class. Take the extra notes. She gives you her note outlines for everything. Read the textbook. Read every reading. Do not cram! (DUH) Make a friend to talk to about the material because the best way to learn it is through an open discourse. See the broad perspective and connect the dots.

For an intro course her expectations are unrealistic. The length of tests are pretty ridiculous. Had MC, Definitions, short answer (which were required to be half a page each), and a 3 page long answer question.

Lisa's final exam is VERY long, I finished with only a 4 minutes left (3 hour exam). Course work is manageable, but come exam time its information overload. I found it impossible to remember everything that was required and I did study quite a bit.

Very interesting class and Lisa is a cool person however her expectations for the final were riduculous and impossible to remember all the information. Our midterms throughout the course were based on chapters 1-3 and the final was on the last 10 chapters.. way to much to remember for the final and she did not take that into consideration

Great professor - her lectures are important AND interesting so you might as well go. She doesn't drill you about reading the textbook chapters because this isn't high school but you should read the text. The majority of multiple choice is from text information.

I did not apply myself much but still got a passing grade. Got really high marks with assignments, low marks on the quizzes which were open book but never read the textbook. If you take this class online get really good marks in the quizzes and assignments, you will get a easy mark. Exam questions are on everything but her guidelines are the exam.

took the online course and its fairly easy. GPA booster for me, just write in the correct format on assignments and make sure you write thoroughly. The multiple choice on her exam was a bit tough but the rest (especially written part) was easy and saved my mark. Didn't really read text, just skimmed through for answers. Overall, recommend

Lisa is an AMAZING individual! Very passionate about anthro, which makes her lectures very interesting. Taking thorough notes during class is the key to succeeding in this class. I BARELY skimmed the text, but my class notes were good enough for me to score an B+. The MC on the exams were tricky, but the written will be a breeze if you attend class

She was very helpful,especially for an online course. A large workload, but she broke it down well. The final exam is quite extensive, but was reasonable. She responded quickly to any emails. Also, she covers some controversial topics in her course but always provides an alternative option for anyone who doesn't feel comfortable with the topic

Lisa has a great personality and is a very likeable and knowledgable teacher. As for her tests, try to take the best notes in class to study from, read the text book and read ALL of the req. readings, esp for the final. Her midterms are also very long for the short amount of time, so be fast!

She is funny and makes awkward or embarrassing discussions interesting and understandable. Unless a wizard friend gives you notes, attendance is mandatory. Show, keep up w readingsvids & tests will be very straightforward. No curveballs; teaches what she tests. Advice: in-class examples your best friend on short answer responses. Textbook is horrid & Lisa agrees, so other readingsvids are refreshing & totally interesting. Funny prof!

If you're gonna take this course online be prepared to read. If you're unable to stay on track with readings you won't do well. It's a heavy course and there's a lot of memorization, but Lisa is always willing to help. She's quick with responding to emails and wants students to succeed. Take initiative and you'll be fine in the course.

No one should take this class online. She has written assignments aswell as quizzes online that are due EVERY week. It was a very tedious class and got very annoying. The final exam was worth 38% and was absolutely ridiculous. She expected you to know everything and asked VERY in-depth questions. For an entry level course, this was ridiculous..

Although this class was an elective for me, I was interested in the material. Lisa is very passionate. Go to her classes. In 101 she gives check your understandings and if you can answer those questions you'll do fine on the written. I finished with plenty of time on exams. Do the readings because she will ask about them. Overall I enjoyed her!

Lisa is very charismatic and funny. I enjoyed going to her classes, but her grading is unreasonable (especially on long answer). You must do all readings and videos, and memorize all points or you will be docked on exams like crazy.

I came out of that class much more enlightened about the world every time. She is funny. Sometimes she covers heavy stuff. We'd play little games to help us understand things. Lots of the time you will be somewhat confused about assignments. Assignments and tests are a little confusing, but if you study your case studies, you'll pass.

She was one of the best teachers I had. She would give you exactly what was on her tests. The short answer was actually pretty easy and I got higher marks on that then the multiple choice. She is very funny and she made me interested in taking another Anthro class ! You must go to class because she will discuss things that will appear on tests !

I took Anthro as an elective, not caring at all about the subject, and left a better person. Lisa is passionate about her field and she wishes to share that passion with her students. She covered topics most profs wouldn't even touch and she did so to show her students there's always two sides to an issue. She is in my top 3 profs in last 4 years

Lisa is controversial, and that's the worst thing I can say about her. She is the right kind of crazy for anthropology; I feel many students probably declared their major in this field thanks to her. There is a ton of reading to do, but if you're interested in culture and how we interact, it'll be a breeze. Take intro anth with her.

Lisa is passionate, honest, and a simply wonderful human being. She is DEFINITELY in my top 3 of all my profs ever. Lots of reading, so keep up. Be clear and expand lots when writing long answer in tests, it's the best way to bring your mark up. Draw pics too, she doesn't mind. Great to see outside class, so helpful. Lisa is simply too rad!

Lisa is hilarious. She's down to earth and will always say what is on her mind. I loved the way she taught this course. I loved going to class everyday because she not only taught the content well, but made it interesting and entertaining. You can tell anthropology is her passion and I would absolutely recommend Lisa for any anthropology class.

Lisa's lectures are action packed, and very interesting. She used a variety of teaching methods, from readings, videos, assignments, and even games. 101 has a ton of content to cover, and whatever is not covered in class, you won't be graded on. You must do your readings! Even if she doesn't go over them in class, you WILL be tested on them.

I'm in my fourth year, however yet this 100 level course with her was horrid. Definitely dropped my GPA. There is no amount of studying I could have done to get above a c on her final. And I did every assignment, quiz, and study guide. Super lengthy questions made us basically write out the book, then tested on tiny details no one would notice.

I recommend starting the assigned readings ASAP, and making notes on all of them. Her multiple choice is almost entirely on them, and something that you found to be minor in the reading and you did not pay attention to could end up costing you marks in a multiple choice question. Her long answers were better. Take class notes on everything she says

Her quizzes were out of 100 points, even though there was only 20 questions (each were worth 4) and its pretty much what the textbook specifically says. Tests were overly specific, its pretty much what she says in class, my hands went numb from typing so much during her lectures, MUCH BETTER PROFS OUT THERE THAT WILL HELP YOU!

Very lecture heavy, if you dont show up to class you miss a lot. Plus, you need to write notes based of her speaking, the power points are much use. My only complaint would be that my uncle passed and we had to wait to have the funeral and I had a quiz due and when I asked for an extension for a few days which is not unreasonable she told me that I needed a note from a doctor however asking my aunt was not an option as she was in a very bad state and none of my other profs had asked either.

Lisa seems like a great person but her online anthr 101 class is extremely work heavy for a first-year online course and she provides little to no notes in blackboard. Lisa is a great person, she gives good feedback, but the course is very content-heavy. There are sometimes two chapters plus module reading in one week with added research assignments. The quizzes are very detailed, and exams are much more difficult than necessary. On average it takes about 15-20 hours of work a week to do well. Not recommended

Worst experience in my entire 4 year degree. Hour long videos for online quizzes worth 1.5%, was told the textbook wasn't used for midterms, then on our second midterm we had a question asking for specific examples from the textbook! This course was ridiculously hard for a 100 level course, on the final there were at least 4 questions we never learned. As a full time student it was difficult to manage my time when you need to put in 20 hours of reading and watch hour long videos every week. Wouldn't take again

Her content is good and is very organized in her lessons however she treats her 101 class like a 400 level, incredibly stern on citations and grammar which feels irrelevant to the actual assignments considering people in 100 level courses are still learning. Her feedback is quite rude and doesn't actually give ways to fix it. Wouldn't recommend tbh

I took this class as an elective in my fourth year with hopes that it would be a decently easy course to go along with my 400 level classes. I was so wrong. Lisa is definitely passionate but marks this class as if it's a 400 level. If you make any slight mistake in a citation, you get a zero. Does not help first years, that's for sure.

Do yourself a favour and avoid Lisa like the plague. I took this class as a elective in my final year and Lisa is by far the worst prof i've had. Who gives you a zero if write a citation wrong on a discussion post? Lisa. Who makes you redo your assignment worth 5% because you had a grammar error? Lisa. Definitely treats this like a 400 level class.

I took ANTH 101 in the hopes it would be a GPA booster but with Lisa, I can safely say it tanked my term GPA. Extremely hard marker and gives a 0 if you get so much as a citation incorrect. By far the worst prof Ive had in my 4 years at MacEwan, comes off quite rude in her correspondence as well. AVOID LISA!!!!

STUDENT BEWARE! One of the worst professors I've had to this day, incredibly harsh on citations and grammar and assumes everyone's first language is English. ZERO helpful feedback, 8-10 hours of homework just for this class. Treats 101 like 400. I wouldn't recommend this teacher to anyone who wants to pass, she gives zeros like xmas gifts.

Personally, as my first year of university, I was NOT expecting this 100 level course to be stressful. Everyone in my section can agree that she is INSANELY strict and will give you a zero if you mess up citations and grammar. English is not everyone's first language, and it's a discussion post... AVOID AT ALL COST!! This will make my GPA drop.

Probably one of the most difficult profs. It is nonsensical how she grades and how hard she is on her students. I would challenge her to examine if her grading and method of teaching is actually ethical, practical and beneficial. Not every student can regurgitate information the same way.

The worst prof ever. Avoid her at all costs. So much unnecessary readings on top of the material we already have to read in the textbook. She also refers to the textbook material very specifically on all of her tests. She is very nit picky on her marking and will literally make you dreadful. For an intro class, this was not worth my sanity.

Do you love crying? if yes, this prof is perfect for you! Literally made me cry so much with how bad I'm doing in this course. I heard Anth101 was a GPA booster so I took it but it did the complete opposite. I would suggest avoiding Lisa at all cost. She gives vague responses to your papers, and her tests are quite difficult. She grades harshly !!!

Do not take her class; she docks marks for the simplest thing, and if u mess up a single on the citation, even if it's ur first time, she will simply not mark it. She has no consideration for others, and marks u on a whim, treats a 100 level class as if it were a 400 level course. Do not take this prof, especially if English is ur second language.

She is alright. She is really passionate about anthropology, and that's what made me want to learn about anthropology. However, she gives tons to course materials, such as reading the textbook, long articles, and videos with long durations. It is challenging to keep up with other courses as Prof. Mutch gives tons of materials.

(Late posted review for winter 2021 term) Professor Mutch is very direct, which is offputting to some. She's clearly passionate about anthropology, although she comes across as if she's trying to remain neutral, and the workload for the course is pretty heavy. Citation nitpicker, but do your best and you should do well.

Lisa is very specific in her expectations. She is very approachable and highly responsive. ANTH101 was very content-heavy, but the quizzes, discussion posts, assignments, and tests were fairly marked with clear criteria. DO NOT FORGET to use proper documentation and citation!! Great course, great prof, engaging lectures.

I really liked Professor Mutch. There was a lot of content that could get confusing but she is really good at explaining and simplifying concepts. The videos she assigned to watch were really helpful as well. The class is overall straightforward if you do the readings, watch the videos, and attend lectures. It is time-consuming.

I'm surprised to say that this one one of the first times I've really had no problem with an online class. Lisa has laid out the course super clearly and provided lots of very useful worksheets and study games. Just be careful to manage your time well if you're doing this class in the spring, it's a lot of reading.

Overkill for a first year class, felt like taking a fourth year class. Each week/chapter has at least 2-3 reads and an hour long video on top of her lecture, reading the textbook and making your own notes. Save yourself time and take with another professor.

All educational credibility was lost when she provided a Wikipedia link as a source students were meant to use and reference for an assignment, after previously taking marks off several students work for using disreputable sources. Lost a lot of respect for her as a prof when she did this, especially in a first year class.

Do not take her classes please. Such a hard grader, treated this class like a 4th year and if you mess up on any citations, she will not grade it and give you a 0, & tell you its academic integrity and will bring it to EI. Not understanding at all and is ridiculously hardcore about a first year class. Take anything but this prof.

Lisa has a lot of bad reviews, but I thought she was a great prof. Her lectures are engaging, and she is really helpful when you're struggling. She is tough on citations and grammar errors, but her expectations are clear. You'll need to read/watch any extra materials she posts as well as have the textbook to do well on the weekly quizzes/exams.

Try to avoid her if you can! Take any other anthro prof. She treats the course like it is a 4th-year course, with the number of readings and works she wants you to do. The assignments aren't too tough, but man, that midterm and final will kill you. She has weekly quizzes, which if you have the textbook, are not too hard. Attempt to avoid her!!!

This course is ANTH 210 now. This is my second time taking a course with Lisa, and I think she's lovely. Yes, she's strict about citations, but she gives you a chance to fix any mistakes and is very helpful if you come to her with questions regarding citations or the course material. If you study the textbook and do your best, you'll do great.

Took as an elective (Anth 210). Lisa is by far THE BEST professor I have EVER had for an online course, and I am almost 100% finished with my degree. The content is insanely well-organized. I do not understand why all the complaints about citations, it's normal and the same in every course.

Not condensed at all for a summer course. Unrealistic expectations of both text and supplemental readings. Quizzes are very detailed from the readings, and don't really have anything to do with practical application of knowledge. Enough content that it feels like a 400-level course. I'm a fourth year student taking this a one of my electives, and let me say her tests are very specific on tiny sections in the textbook, based on things. That don't seem that relevant/important to know, she has way too many assignments and readings (more than all my fourth year classes together) and she deducts marks for small grammatical errors

An intro course we don't need to be reading chapters, required readings, 11 quizzes and 4 posts that are extremely long. Took as online course, everything is open book except the FINAL, its in person written CLOSED BOOK and you must get at least a 50% on the exam to pass the class. No exceptions. Glad this isn't my major, I would be discouraged.

I'm a little torn on this one as a 4th year; Is the class hard? If you are trying to get an A , I think its more work than its worth. But if you're trying to get a B? C? If you approach it strategically and pick your battles, you should be ok. the final: its a very reasonable exam. Fair # of common sense questions if u put any effort at all.

Please do not take this course with this prof as a GPA booster. It is unreasonably hard for a 100 level course. Tons of textbook readings, 11 unit quizzes, 3 assignments, 3 reflections posts and a must pass (50+) closed book final exam. Be prepared to work extremely hard and do all the assigned readings if you take her.

if you are not religious, pick a religion and pray. too much work for an intro class. 11 units, 11 quizzes, almost 2 longgg chapters per unit with required readings (which are lengthy articles), and videos. quizzes and midterm is online and open book however the final is closed book. she wants you to basically memorize the entire textbook.

I took this class expecting an easy elective, but the workload is heavier than expected. PowerPoints aren't accessible outside class, so note-taking is rushed in the 50-minute period. Taking this class as a non-business elective was a mistake; there's so much tedious work in this class. The sheer volume of reading and watching per week is ridiculous. My honest opinion about this class after writing my final would be that her final would've been a lot easier and easily understood if she had focused solely on the main topics involved in this course. A lot of the questions were common sense, however the amount of workload involved in this class (e.g. required readings) were very unecessary.

Never take this professor!!!!!!!!!!! I took the course thinking it would boost my GPA but Lisa Mutch failed me AND DROPPED MY GPA!! Even though it was an online course, there were assignments after quizzes after homework and readings. WAY TOO MUCH EXPECTATIONS FOR AN INTRODUCTORY COURSE.

Her course in very textbook focused, but there are recorded lectures which I found very helpful. I recommend watching the lectures first and just skimming the textbook if you have time. Dont skip the mandatory reading and videos though. You do need at least 50 on the final to pass, but honestly I found it easier than some of the quizzes.
