Cons: Talks to you like you're in middle school. Class is long and boring.-----Pros: Fair tests, as long as you study. She's just fair in all situations.. sometimes would tell you if an answer is right on your test.
Cons: Talks to you like you're in middle school. Class is long and boring.-----Pros: Fair tests, as long as you study. She's just fair in all situations.. sometimes would tell you if an answer is right on your test. Not much work- 2 tests, exam, occasional quiz, 2 homeworks.
She is pretty straight forward with what she expects of you. Very helpful and wants you to learn the material.
I am an Anthro major and can say that this was my least favorite class taken at State, almost entirely due to the professor. However she curves drastically at the end of the course. My grade went from a C+ to an A-. It's obvious that she cares about students, but it is a frustrating class.
Great personality. Excellent teaching skills. Made class interesting. Was alert throughout the whole lecture. You wont fall asleep!!! She's been everywhere and done everything. I think she met koko gorilla & nelson mandela. GREAT STORIES. She talked to us like adults, not kids. Pretty and funny. Hyper.
It was a fairly easy class, but it is important to read the chapters in the textbook. Tests are straightforward and there is usually some extra credit. Sometimes she goes off on tangents by telling stories that don't relate to class. She talked to us like we were kids, which greatly slowed the pace of class down.
I really like Dr. Paciulli - she's very nice and always willing to help you out. Tests are straightforward w some extra credit. No homework (except for lab). Lots of clicker quizzes. I havent opened the textbook once and I've gotten As on all the exams so far. Also, non-science majors dont be intimidated by this class; it's not bad at all!
Teaches straight off unhelpful power points. Study guides are helpful but answers are no where to be found but the internet. Gets off topic and rambles about her Ph. D or grad school multiple times per class. Unclear about material. Although she is helpful if help is needed. Overall, easy class but frustrating to sit through.
She is a great teacher!!!
Paciulli is a great professor! She's super helpful and very nice; she goes out of her way to make students comfortable. Sometimes she can be annoying, but she really loves to teach, so her class isn't bad.
Her grading is not consistent. Her lectures seem very long and she addresses the class like we are children. The power point lectures she gives and the textbook sometimes do not agree and she will count you wrong on the test if you go by her notes. Overall, a fairly easy class if you make an effort, but you do not want her as a teacher.
It was hard studying since she tested us on the details. Go through the power points and you'll be sort-of-fine but for better results, you might wanna read the textbook and make flashcards out of EVERYTHING. The class was better than some of my others because she at least tried to make it fun with her personal stories and video clips.
Not bad for an intro biology course. She does go off on weird tangents, but they're always so funny! Kind of treats the class like children, which can be slightly annoying. Tests aren't too bad, and she gives you a nice practice exam beforehand. There's plenty of clicker quizzes, but they're usually super easy! I would definitely recommend her!
I took BIO212 lab with Dr. Paciulli. What an amazing woman! She talks in circles sometimes, but she's always willing to help students get the grades they need. She will give you a big heads up on what to expect on quizzes and practicals - there are hardly ever any surprises because if she says it will be on the quizpractical, it usually will be!
Dr. P is one of the chillest professors in my opinion. I am applying to PT schools, so I was very interested in learning about the human anatomy. It was very refreshing to have a professor that showed as much concern as she did. She would tell the class the best ways to go about studying the material and took time to help each person individually.
Very kind and enthusiastic professor. She always encouraged the class to participate in the lecture which helped us stay engaged (especially at 8 a.m.) You will need try to be present for every class in order to get you clicker points.
She's devoted to finding ways to help students understand the material better and always seeking to help improve study habits. She makes learning fun and is passionate about teaching. Great teacher, wish I could have taken another class with her!
While she can be a little scatter-brained sometimes (think tangents), I found Dr. Paciulli to be very kind, qualified, and relatable
goes off on random tangents sarcastically replies to emails treats you like children would not take again
I enjoyed her lectures and the subject material learned; even though the material is not what I was majoring in specifically. As an instructor, she was not very clear and lacked clarity when I asked questions (via email). She lacked in some areas, but made up in others. While I did not receive the best experience I would still recommend her
Dr. Paciulli is probably your best option for a BIO 181 professor. She is funny at times and tries to keep the lecture interesting. She's been everywhere and has lots of great stories. The tests are hard but not unmanageable. She's not super receptive to student questions in emails but if you stay for office hours she is always happy to help.
Dr. Paciulli is a very kind teacher. She is always willing to help you and is genuinely interested in what her students want to achieve in their future careers. She always has interesting stories to tell and makes learning enjoyable.
Dr. Paciulli is extremely entertaining in class. She works hard and provides good feedback. She's a good teacher. Tests are a little difficult, but overall a very good class.
The nature of the content in Dr. Paciulli's course Primate Ecology and Evolution (BIO317) may be viewed as generally difficult, however, she does a phenomenal job of engaging the class and making you want to learn the material. If you read, show up to class, and show interest by participating in discussion, I'm sure you can make an A in this class.
She's fun in class!! But I just didn't get much from class and the exams are graded very harshly.
This was the class I looked forward to the most in my schedule. Some people don't like her because sometimes she does treat us a bit like children ("GREAT question, thanks for asking!). She can come off a bit fake in that way. But hey, a class that is engaging is better than an impossibly hard class. Solid choice here, definitely.
Does not give good notes in lecture then gives extremely hard test that are normally at least half short answers/essay questions.
Paciulli is kind to the point where it's a bit sickening. Treats people like kids, and seems caring on the outside but has been very unreasonable to a few students. I'm not going to fail the class, but would not take it with her again if I had the choice.
She is very kind and caring and if you go talk to her or send an e-mail she will take a lot of time to really help each and every student. You will probably need this because the tests are hard to study for because it is hard to know what will really be on them. She moves around to random topics during lecture not making it very organized.
Seems nice and willing to help, but this isn't the case outside class. Her lectures/PowerPoints are confusing and unclear, and she's been known to have uncovered material on the test. She hardly even mentions or refers the text book, and you easily forget the class even has one, but I would definitely study the text book a lot if you wanna do well.
She is honestly one of the worst teachers ever. She is very scatter brained and tries to assign projects during the last week of class and have them due during finals week (on top of a final). Also tries to do group work in a 250 person lecture class. Do whatever you can to not have her as a teacher. Very unorganized and the tests are not easy.
Disorganized. Rarely makes sense. Group work in a class with over 200 people. Random things on test briefly mentioned in class (ex. random detail from a video). Even if you study a lot it's very difficult to get an A.
Paciulli is not a bad person and I'm sure she's a great professor in her own right, but the one class I took with her was very unorganized. She does know her material well, but she is not specific in her exams giving questions that seem vague, feedback is also horrible. I am able to pass her class, but through learning on my own.
Dr. Paciulli is a nice professor, but she gets off topic easily and is not the least bit organized. She attempts to do group work in massive lectures (which obviously doesn't work), springs work on students last minute, and her PowerPoints are uninformative. Expect 5 minutes of work to be accomplished in 50 minutes. Avoid this class at all costs.
Do not take her. She is actually terrible. Never responds to emails, doesn't grade fairly, and won't ever give you back any points. Ferzli is your best bet.
I like Dr. Paciulli very much as a person. She is obviously VERY well educated with lots of experience in biology, but her heart and mind were honestly just not in this class. Or that is my observation. She came to class somewhat under prepared and her lectures showed it. She got off track OFTEN. Absolutely RACED through difficult material.
Dr. Paciulli has her moments of being nice, however, she had several rude outbursts at some students. She had generic email replies that she sent to everyone which did not help answering questions. She took off a lot of points on test because your answer did not say exactly what was on her paper. Made all lab TAs grade harshly on lab assignments.
I really wanted to like her and the class, it started out fine at the beginning of the semester, but she got progressively worse. We covered very little material and wasted a lot of time. Lab was graded unnecessarily hard too, I got like a 60 on one ( and I worked hard )when my friends who had other lecturers said lab was a grade booster....
I studied really hard to get an A hours and hours and entire weekends and just for nothing. I knew the stuff. I am 100% I would have gotten an A with another teacher. Do not take if you care about learning and having a fair grade. The class is stressful and frustrating badly organized, confusing. I deeply regret choosing this one.
Very sweet and her lectures are entertaining. Can get a little disorganized and distracted but it's not too bad. Her short answer tests dont seem bad when you are taking them but they are graded super harshly and I usually got a letter grade below what I had expected. Test questions are straight from the lectures, textbook is not a necessity.
Her teaching style is very kindergarten, IMO. You do a lot of busywork meant to "engage" you, but it's a waste of time. Plus she makes you know lots of scientific names. But the information itself was really interesting and she's very knowledgeable. And the field trips are fun. I enjoy her as a person, but she's not my cup of tea as a teacher.
I chose biology as my major because of her. I love Dr. P. She plays music at the begining of class and I sang the song all day. She doesn't give a lot of homework and if you don't want to do the readings you can still do okay. She knew my name and met with me three times out of class and there were hundreds of kids in there. She really helpscares.
Dr. Pachulli is awesome!! She is happy and funny. You will never get bored. She gave clicker quizzes but we alwas knew when they were. never pop quizzed. She really helped me get caught up when my grandma passed. Its the only class I didn't take an incomplete. She cares and helps you study and you can ask her a million questions she doesn't mind.
Dr. Pacuilli is your best bet for bio181. Exams and quizzes come right from class so go to class. She teaches everything you need to know in class. She is very engaging too so it's very easy to stay awake and listen. She tells funny stories, plays music, lecture, and show videos. That helped me learn. Great Moodle website. She helps you study.
Take bio 181 with Dr. Pachiulli!!!! She gives you everthing you need to study for the exam so go to class and take good notes. She gives you funny ways to learn things. She does activities so you don't get bored. You will stay interested in class. She can make biology seem interesting and that is not easy to do.
Doctor P is very knowledgeable, extremely approachable, and adept with the way she handles a classroom. She is a fantastic teacher and I cannot praise her highly enough.
She can be confusing on participation in class and sometimes snaps at the students that leave early even though at the beginning of the semester she said it was fine if you ever had to leave early. Study for this class! She is a nice person but the tests can be tough and I know I thought I did much better than the grades I was making.
Do not take 181 with Paciulli. She says we don't need a textbook for her class, yet references the textbook. Her tests are ridiculous because a lot of questions are very specific, not on her lecture powerpoints. Expect ambiguous questions that have SPECIFIC answers, or no credit. She gets off topic VERY easily and is just a mess.
Dr. P is overall a nice person but an awful teacher. She gets off topic too much during class and the tests are extremely hard. She is also very rude and blunt In her emails and is snappy with students during class. Her emails do not answer questions whatsoever. Lab is way too hard and TAs grade extremely hard. I would avoid having her.
A lot of people are not crazy about her, but I found Dr. P to be very helpful in learning deeper into biology. Do all the practice tests on moodle before the exam. Lab is painfully long and unnecessarily hard, so that was the main downfall.
Honestly, Dr. P can come off as a hardass during class but if you reach out to her SHE WILL HELP YOU! If you seek help before an exam she'll give you a solid outline of what to expect. Textbook really isn't necessary. Anyone who is saying exams are hard didn't reach out to her. She will reciprocate the effort you put into this class
She often speaks of how she I willing to help students who need assistance but I went to her for help multiple times and was met with patronizing attempts to intimidate me. Her rude and passive aggressive nature made her unapproachable and created a hostile learning environment.
Overall, Dr. P is a good professor. Her class can be chaotic at times, so if you're someone who needs organization, this is not the class for you. Her lectures are interesting, and she is willing to take time out of class to explain assignments or talk about test questions prior to the exam. Clicker quizzes are Dailey, but extra credit is a thing.
Dr. P is very enthusiastic about what teaching however, the course content was delivered poorly. Go out of your way to get the assistance and help you need to succeed in this class or else you will not succeed at all. Good luck.
She is really fun and I am really glad that I took my class with her. I would definitely like to take another class with her whenever I get a chance.
This class was very easy. If you took AP bio in high school, it's pretty much the easier version of that. Her tests are very easy and she pretty much gives you the answers in class. Her lectures are super boring though. She goes off on lots of tangents so it gets a bit confusing at times. I personally didn't like her teaching, but she's very nice.
Dr. P loves to teach, however she tends to treat everyone like a child. This sometimes results in being talked down to if you ask about tests, or she assumed you don't know some basic bio concepts. If you are able to somehow follow along in her lectures, you should be okay.
Very condescending to her students. Tends to baby everyone which leads to low morale. Would be a fantastic teacher if she didn't do this, she seems to enjoy teaching. Did not feel comfortable talking to her during office hours. Unorganized to a point that it negatively affects students. Would not take a class with her again.
Great class and professor.
Tests are long and difficult. Course material is not delivered well and the tests do not reflect the class notes or the textbook.
Dr. P is a pretty good teacher and really loves biology. She really does care about her students if you go and reach out to her for help. The class is mostly lecture but still interactive through TopHat. The tests are hard and require a lot of studying, but if you work hard you'll be fine and get an A or B.
Hard to follow, tests on material not discussed in class, very difficult.
Dr.P gives lots of enthusiasm during her lectures, however it doesn't help the fact that everything else in the class is a disaster. The moodle page is set up HORRIBLY and is so disorganized. You wont know your grade until final grades come out because of how poorly set up the class is. The tests are pretty difficult and the Lab IS AWFULLL.
I just did not like this class. Her way of teaching is confusing and she is condescending towards student by treating everyone like they are five. She was more worried about offending someone than she was actually delivering information to us. Also there were a lot of unnecessary in class group work that was not graded and a waste of time.
Paciulli was definetly s tough professor. But I would review her notes alot, as well as make quizlets and study groups which helped tremendously. Go to office hours!! Like seriously it will help a ton!! The tests are difficult but thats because you have to apply what you learn rather than just memorization.
Dr. P is the best Bio professor IMO. She does rely heavily on her TA's for your feedback, but will help you if you ask her directly. A lot of the in-class activities and videos she plays will be asked about on her exams, so if you write them down and re-watch/ go over them you'll be fine. I'm also a Bio major which might make me biased though.
Save yourself. She is rude and extremely disorganized, which means she very heavily relies on her TAs. There will be things in the exams that are hardly talked about in class so do yourself a favor and know EVERYTHING she puts in a powerpoint. The only upside is her final is based on all previous exams. If you take her, pray she has good TAs.
By far one of the worst professors at NC State. She is very condescending and arrogant. I would not take her again.
Dr. Paciulli is so dull and monotone. She goes through the material very slowly and often forgets stuff. Would not take her again.
She does not lecture on the test material, and the exams are specific and difficult. She does not work with students well. She does not plan ahead for classes and changes things last minute. She does not give much warning on assignments and the moodle is so disorganized you will never find the assignment online. DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES!
Dr. Paciulli's style of teaching is bland and sporadic. Lectures are all over the place and is just too fast. She appears friendly but is sometimes condescending.
I have never taken a class that I studied for so many hours just to do average on the tests. This is the most unorganized and monotonous class Ive ever taken. Dr. Paciulli genuinely wants to make her class almost impossible to do well in. And if you email her asking a question or for help she will flame you for no reason. DONT TAKE HER CLASS
class is all over the place, don't teach just says what's on a PowerPoint slide, constantly pausing class, never clear with what or what will not be on a test, goes over information too fast
Biology is normally the class I do amazing in and this was an epic fail. I took 183 prior to taking 181 and got an A. She is unclear what material will be on the test. All she does is read over the powerpoints. When she explains something, she always goes off topic and never actually answers the question.
Even with online class she was very condescending. Her lectures are all over the place and her tests are not fair (this is coming from someone who typically earns straight A's). When students tried to discuss how to make the tests fairer (per her request during class), she ended up threatening to disable the chat function if we wouldn't stop.
Does SO much wokeness theatre. Spends 20 minutes every lecture asking how people are doing, and if 40 of you are doing bad and 10 of you are doing okay she will say "That's GREAT everybody :)" and still assign 4 things due on sunday night. Tests are always unclear at best, good luck figuring out what will be on them.
Dr. Paciulli is extremely condescending. If you email her with any questions, she will immediately turn you down and question your intelligence. The class had ton of homework assignment that were poorly organized. The tests are also super hard and she expects you to do all the learning by yourself.
Dr. Paciulli has constructed an introductory biology course that requires more time and guesswork to succeed than any 400+ level course I have enrolled in. If you have the option to choose another professor, do it. IF she is the only option, wait until the next semester to take the course. Unsympathetic to students.
Dr. P isn't a great professor. The Moodle page is chaotic & the tests are ridiculously short despite the number of questions. You're lucky if you get a minute per question. She can't take critiques and doesn't like student opinions; threatens to disable the chat function. Seems nice but is condescending. Got us in the first half ngl.
I can not stress this enough, do NOT take her class!!!! She comes off as so nice in the beginning but is the most condescending professor ever. I would go to her office hours to ask questions, just to leave the meeting sobbing. Her lectures and Moodle page are so unorganized! The tests are ridiculous, giving you less than a minute per question.
The final is almost impossible. Up to 150 questions in 93 minutes. How is that reasonable. Dr. Paciulli refuses to listen to any concerns about the test, and is condescending to students. Her advice is summed up to "just do better." I have never been so infuriated with a class.
Dr. P can be really sweet but has a few disagreeable tendencies (re: not listening to student's opinions/concerns or being condescending). The moodle page is very hectic and unorganized but I thought the lectures were great. The homework assignments (1-4 a week; due on Sunday) were largely participation. The exams, however, were pretty difficult.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. BIGGEST MISTAKE FRESHMAN YEAR. Barely goes over lecture material yet expects students to know all of material. Easily sidetracked which led us to not finishing all material before a test. Very passive aggressive if you disagree with her. She doesn't like to admit mistakes and is unapproachable about questions about material.
Dr. P is nice.. but her sweetness is a suspicious way to cover for the fact that she doesn't allow her students to share their opinions about issues with the class. Very tough on exams. she does not give enough time per question on them. Don't get started with me on the final exam. unorganized. always uses class time to discipline her toddler -.-
Dr. Paciulli seems very nice, but tends to ignore the concern of students. Exams were discussed about how there is not much time to complete and fully demonstrate our understanding. Assignments are due every sunday and so is a discussion forum type thing, but they're fairly easy, however, exams are much tougher than assignments/questions given.
I took Dr. Paciulli's online BIO 181 class. Most of the course's content was taught through her long PowerPoint lectures and her assignments (which sometimes lacked clear instructions). Overall, this course had a heavy emphasis on memorization. So, if you want to pass, you got to take her advice and "know everything that we do in class."
She is a kind professor, but expects you to remember every detail mentioned in class. She tends to be passive aggressive and condescending when answering questions or for detail on assignments.
WORST TEACHER EVER. Extremely passive aggressive and uses lecture time to ramble about her phone provider or child. You have more questions than you do time for the test. She doesn't prepare you for any of her exams. Her Moodle page is extremely confusing. She likes to change the due dates on things and not update everyone. Take my word for it.
She is so sweet and really wants to see you succeed. I had never written a paper quite like the microreview and it went super smoothly with her guidance! She was always available for extra help and was super responsive to emails. Recognize it is a lot of work and she expects it to get done, but that's just how college is. Totally would recommend!
Seems sweet, but is actually super condescending and discourteous. I tried going to office hours to ask questions, but when I did she was very rude to me and wouldn't let me get a single word in. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Mrs P doesnt care about her students at all. shes very passive aggressive and at time rude. I had to stop going to class and start teaching myself the material to pass. her kids always interrupt and she is not good at teaching the material. Not to mention her moodle page is so confused. do not take her class.
The professor was a super nice woman she is reasonable and reliable. Her teaching style was very helpful/useful while taking this course. I would recommend this course to other students.
Dr. Paciulli wanted to see everyone succeed in BIO 267. She was always willing to reach out through email/text to help us with our papers, posters, etc. She always gave great, direct advice to us whenever she worked with our group. If she sees that you care about your work, you will pass the class and learn lots of valuable skills from it.
I really enjoyed the lecture portion of this course. Dr. Paciulli was extremely caring and has gone out of her way to provide extra credit opportunities. Course was very flexible with my schedule and many resources were provided if you missed lectures. Tests are difficult but not the worst I've taken. About 1-3 assignments due weekly, pretty easy.
Avoid this teacher at all costs. She seems nice, however her moodle is so disorganized! She does not have a syllabus or any listed due dates and you have to go through each moodle assignment to find them. She didn't answer any of my questions without going on a 5 minute ramble about something related to it and then would give a riddle like answer.
After reading reviews, I thought she would be bad. After taking her class though, I think she is a decent Professor. The class is not too hard. Just have to go through powerpoints and memorize terms.
She doesn't care about students' mental health, she straight up send me into a major depressive episode and didn't seem to care. Also treats students like they're still in middle school by simplifying too much.
She seems really nice when you start her class, sweet and very passionate. That is until you get past the 3rd week. Then she becomes condescending, rude and just all out nasty to deal with. She told me 5 weeks in that I was going to fail her class. She also doesn't care about any excuses on why the work isn't done. She accept mental illness.
Dr. Paciulli is very nice and cares a lot about her students. The tries to make class fun, but usually the class is just all over the place. The slides are a mess, and she even references wikipedia on multiple occasion (once on an exam). Her Moodle page is also crazy, but she tries her best to make it helpful. She is nice, but very disorganized.
Dr. Paciulli is a wonderful person, but a less talented professor. Everything will be fine until Exam 2, where there begins to be a slip between what is taught and what is actually on the exam. In theory, this course should be an easy A/B, but the tests really bring it down. She is very sweet, but you may want to look elsewhere first.
Her moodle is a bit complicated. She is very nice and considerate. Gives extra credit. Tests are hard but not too hard.
She is a very nice professor, tries to make the class fun, and gives many extra credit opportunities. Her lectures are usually straight forward but occasionally she will go briefly over a topic that is heavy on an exam. Definitely take advantage of all the additional resources she has on Moodle. You will need todo some of your own studying/learning
Although I hate to give her such a bad rating because she really is the nicest, she is probably the worst teacher I have ever had. She goes on tangents in class and never explains things well enough. By the end of the course I didn't even attend lectures, I just read through the PowerPoints and taught myself the material.
one of those classes that necessary material isn't covered in class. lots of self-teaching & learning. professor is very sweet and understanding, but lectures after the mid-point in the semester are not as helpful.
Dr. Paciulli is one of the kindest people I've ever met, you can really tell that she cares about her students. She does tend to go on a lot of tangents during lectures, so usually I just skip lectures and go over the material myself. She is an understanding grader and isn't too harsh. She also provides lots of extra credit opportunities.
Dr. Paciulli is a very kind and caring person. However, she was not my favorite teacher. She would ramble a lot during her lectures and get off topic often. Her Moodle page was also very confusing and it was hard to find a lot of the items I was looking for. The tests weren't hard if you studied. You have to teach yourself a lot of the material.
Dr. P is very sweet but sometimes treats her students as if they are not in college. Can be passive aggressive but loves when students participate. The lecture assignments are a joke and the tests aren't bad. The lab portion was the hard part of the class. Textbook is optional but I recommend using it to study. Exams aren't weighted that much.
Lisa really knows her stuff and truly loves biology + teaching it. She gave options for how to listen to lectures (in-person, Zoom, recorded lectures) and the majority of her homework/participation assignments were graded for completion. Had four exams (half multiple choice, half written answers) that were fair.
This class was super easy and accessible. Dr. P makes an effort to make sure everyone is doing okay by doing daily check-ins and the tests are not hard as long as you study at least a little :)
Class was very easy and not hard to achieve an A if you put in some effort. Attendance is very flexible and you are able to take the class in-person or online based on how you feel. The lab is the hardest part of the course but easy if you read over the material and do your work.
This class was very awesome, and the professor knows her stuff. I appreciate the fact that mental health was advocated for in the lectures. Beware of the tough essay questions on the exams, you must study!
Super caring! Do not even need to go to class! The lab is super easy! Tests are harder, but you can get through them.
The lab was the best part of this class and was actually enjoyable. The class itself was easy but the tests were way more difficult than they should have been. She is a nice person too and cares about her students
Organization is terrible. Moodle is a hot mess, lecture slides are useless, lectures are more a collection of tangents than a cohesive topic. Get the optional book. Provides better structure/definitions/examples. Says tests are based off lectures, but tests are waaaaay harder than the simplicity of lectures/slides implies.
Although Paciulli is a caring person, I did not like her as a prof. Her moodle site is a mess and she often times gets off topic during lectures. That being said, her class was not very difficult (many assignments were graded for completion and her test are very manageable). Just do your best to stay organized with your notes and you'll do fine.
Dr. P is very caring. There is a lot of work & you are basically teaching yourself. However, I did receive an A+. My poster, presentation &research paper all received B-C scores, but I still somehow got an A+. She is slow to give feedback. She'll have you submit a revision of a poster or paper without giving you feedback first.
This teacher tends to get off track a lot.
She gets off topic a lot which takes away time from learning. She seems caring but in reality does nothing to help you. It is very hard to pull her aside to ask questions. The website is super unorganized and the tests have information on them that is not found in the slides. MAKE SURE TO READ AND WATCH THE ARTICLES AND VIDEOS.
I would interpret these reviews carefully... her class is not that difficult if you do the assignments and attend/watch the lectures. Yeah, college is hard and you will have to memorize things. It's not her fault. You will learn to understand the Moodle page - it's not that bad. Paciulli is a very passionate professor and a good lecturer.
The moodle page is a mess. The tests are at Delta and some of them are on Centennial campus. I would never take her class a gain due to the disorganization and inability to teach a good lecture. She gets off topic a lot. Honestly just don't take this class with her
The course was hybrid for me, great teacher but lots of information to learn
I would write a scathing review, but I'm too burnt-out.
Please, save yourself and your GPA. This class should have been a good foundation for the future biology courses I'm taking, but now I will be playing catch up when it comes to biology. Her Moodle page is a mess, along with her lecture slides, which are impossible to find. What she focuses on in lecture is not what is on the exam.
This should not be a hard or stressful class, but Dr. P makes it incredibly frustrating. She's so unorganized, her lectures are not helpful for info on exams, and treats the class like children and gets so off topic. Going to class is waste of time because she just talks without actually saying anything. She is caring but just not good at teaching.
This teacher makes it so confusing to learn simple things. All material is on PowerPoints and she makes them so confusing. She is very caring but makes it so difficult to learn through her awful PowerPoints.
Very messy moodle page, don't bother going to class, and study hard for the exams. Honestly, I did better when I stopped going to class and just started teaching myself. Make sure you are constantly checking for upcoming assignments because the moodle page makes it so confusing. Use all study resources given when studying for exams.
Dr. P is probably the nicest professor you'll have, but it's not great beyond that. Her Moodle is messy and overwhelming, I stopped going to lecture after a week of classes when I realized I covered more content faster teaching myself than going to class. Best advice I can give is use flashcards/Quizlet and memorize absolutely as much as you can.
I will say you don't actually need the textbook. She gives all the info needed through power points. Besides that, this class was super disorganized. Couldn't tell what homework assignments would be graded. Some assignments would have due dates, others wouldn't have them, but were still graded. Study the power points yourself and you'll do good.
I love Dr. P so much, she's an amazing person, but the class was not as good as she is. The moodle page is super disorganized, and it is not clear which assignments are due when. I will say, she offers a good amount of extra credit assignments, and points back on tests. Tests aren't the hardest thing ever if you study a lot.
Hated going to lecture because she goes off topic so much. Granted, if you do well in Biology to begin with, you can skip class and do fairly well on the exams. She offers a ton of extra credit throughout the semester which helped me out a lot, but be sure to study the PowerPoints and understand the material. Do well in lab too which helps a lot.
Moodle was extremely overwhelming and absolutely disorganized. During her lecture she will get sidetracked and totally go off topic. Bombed the first two exams and did better on the last two, but had to put in a lot of work to get my grade up. She's caring but also passive aggressive. Would not take her class again.
Moodle was a mess, and powerpoints were a mess and contained no important information. If you want to retain anything find a book and read it. She incorporated politics way too much in her teaching. Don't take.
Her lectures were helpful for studying, but she could be a little biased in how she viewed things but tried her best to stay along with what the book had. The main problem was her inability to work Moodle. She was sloppy with assigning work and how it was presented on your own laptop.
The students each pick a topic & teach it to the class on a selected day, over the semester. We had a couple projects, which weren't that bad since she broke them down into parts. However, she was VERY disorganized. Had no clue on when due dates were nor what assignments to do FOUR WEEKS into the class. Liked the course, did not like the instructor
Paciulli really helped me acclimate to college classes (I'm in high school) and was exceedingly kind. The textbook was due to the Lab for this class. Majority of the grade is from the exams which were fine. The Moodle is super confusing and I missed a few assignments bc I didn't know they were due.
Good luck
Do not take unless you can teach yourself. You meet in class and do not go over materials. You only watch old videos and learn yourself. Exams are difficult with lots of open ends. Very passive-aggressive over little mistakes.
only take this class if you can teach yourself and love TopHat. All lectures are recorded from COVID and in-class time is just an assignment and time to work on it, the exams are written poorly and are much harder than the rest of the coursework. The coursework itself is tedious and repetitive. would not take again.
Dr. P is a nice woman, but going to class is more unhelpful than helpful. She never teaches in person, it's just online videos. The units are extremely vocabulary heavy and exams barely have anything to do with actual material. They are just random scenario based questions from what you learned. Don't take this class unless you want a challenge
This is probably the worst class I have ever taken. The class is so poorly set up that she had to fix the online portion numerous times throughout the year. The online moodle makes things as hard and irritating as possible. Along with insanely tough grading, this class is about as miserable as it gets. Do. Not. Take. Her.
Professor Paciulli is a great person to talk to and she's very nice. However, in terms of class, I didn't learn much. She uses Playposit videos on moodle in place of actual lectures. Moodle is also disorganized. Exams are weirdly written too. If you're good at biology, take her class, however, don't expect to learn much.
Personally not a fan of her or her "teaching". Her versions of lectures were all online Play-posit videos that were poorly made and many of the graded questions were incorrect which did not help. Tests were difficult, especially Unit 3. I would come to class for attendance and learn absolutely nothing relevant to Biology. She was my only option.
tests are very crucial and often very specific and confusing. hard to communicate with outside of class. offers a nice amount of extra credit. moodle page is very unorganized and often does not know what content is being shown in her pre recorded lecture videos or quizzes and lead to lots of confusion on what to learn.
Dr.P clearly cares about her students. Very understanding and nice. Can go a little off topic during lectures but is very helpful when you have a question. Tests are written a little difficult but as long as you study, you will be fine.
Dr. P was very kind. Class was set up to do lectures online on your own time and then come into class to do online worksheets to apply the knowledge. The exams make up most of your grade and are challenging. They had multiple choice as well as essay and short answer questions. Essays given ahead of time.
Probably one of the worst professors I have had at state so far. In class she just rambled and did not even teach since it was a flipped class. Tests were extremely difficult and the only people who would pass would be the science majors. Avoid taking her at all costs.
Dr. P clearly cares about students and wants them to succeed, but class is very disorganized. Email response was hit-or-miss and grading criteria was often unclear and self-contradictory. Did not know for weeks if I was looking at a 60 or a 90 as final grade, switched to pass/fail to be safe. Galapagos trip was very cool (bring money for dinners).
VERY disorganized and lacks communication skills. Would go for weeks without contacting class or any new work, but then expect us to be able to do three weeks' worth of work in one because she did not post it in time. Didn't teach anything, project was make 30min lectures, then the entire rest of the class was just us learning from our classmates.
She "teaches" a flipped classroom. Usually never teaches during the class time and instead uploads lecture videos on Moodle made during Covid and are extremely chaotic. She rambles a lot during class and plays a song on loop loudly for the entire class period too. She seemed like a caring person, but doesn't respond well when asked questions.
By far the most disorganized professor I have ever had. The class was moved from online to in-person, then back online, and none of us knew it was a semester-long course. I did more homework than in my calc class, yet I learned nothing. IMPOSSIBLE to contact. While in Ecuador, she gave us these gas station subs, and everyone got food poisoning.
Paciulli gets such a bad rep even though she isn't the one who necessarily makes the structure of the class. If you keep on top of work and study it is a very easy class to pass, and many extra credit points are given. Also, participation isn't optional, but I do notice a difference in my exam grades when I do vs don't go.
Avoid at all costs. Most useless class ever, I did not learn a thing. All she does is ramble and assign busy work that is ridiculous. I could have spent the time wasted on this class and its work on more important classes.
Opens class with creepy music... feels like an intro to a horror movie. Begins talking about reviving dinosaurs and marks attendance based on what our inner cat is for the day. Horrible moodle class structure with vague due dates. Do me a solid and stay away.
Absolutely unable to stay on topic in class. I kinda get how passionate someone can be about primate but when you're teaching a class at least try to stay on topic. The class itself was also really disorganized and she used a class project as test material.
DO NOT TAKE!!! This is the most disorganized professor/class I have ever had. It is a "hybrid" course, so you do all of the work on your own before class. A lot of her videos do not include the information on the quizzes you take after them. Students have been correcting her mistakes all semester. She blows students questions off in a rude way.
Don't take her. Bad teacher and weird. Often off topic and wastes a lot of time.
She comes off as a very caring and attentive professor, but in reality I could be doing so much more with my time than wasting it in her class. She gives online lecture videos and online homework assignments, so all that is left for her to talk about in class is useless information I never asked to hear.
Sweetest teacher and has the best stories during lecture! She can get a bit off topic but sometimes the tangents would help with remembering a concept. Make sure to stay on top of due dates for home work and use the test resources she gives and you will be fine!
I love Dr. P. Everyone rating her a 1 does not like her because they don't like actually putting in the work and watching simple online lectures. Don't want to watch? Put them in 2x speed and answer the questions to get EASY participation credit. Exam wise they were good. Lowest grade was a C because of the Phylogenetic Tree memorization
Do not take her class if you actually want to learn material, but if you do the homework and study hard for the tests (which are material heavy), this class is an easy A. She rambles a lot during class but is a sweet woman when you talk to her individually. She gives a generous 5% extra credit on her tests and wants you to succeed.
Shes not evil, just kinda a nutjob who loves to ramble about every place shes traveled to and every sickness she got there. If you do the playposits before class when you are supposed to youll be able to decipher what she means and she gave us time in class to work on the assignments. she is really weird tho not in funny way just weird
This class is very difficult-not with the actual work but the way she teaches it seems like she plans to confuse you. Her lecture videos simply do not cover topics on the quizzes/tests for the unit. Students make comments about this is in her forum many times and she inserts the missing clips-making you take time to rewatch the video-unprofessional
Class isn't bad; she wants you to succeed. The class is a "flipped-classroom" (not by choice). This means you learn the material outside of class, and the actual lecture time is used to answer questions. If you do this, you'll be fine. Stay on track. Ask questions, it helps. READ THE SLIDES, videos aren't everything. She's also very inclusive.
Dr. Paciulli is really over hated tbh. Her flipped classroom is a little strange at first and takes some getting used to but overall it does help with learning and it becomes nice to have the opportunity to take lecture notes on your own time. Definitely do the active learning/homework because it was great exam practice and it counts for a grade.
Several video lectures, a small homework, and active learning quizzes each week. The class doesn't take up a lot of time each week (2-3 hours for me) if you do the work while in class. The exams are fairly easy and it's an easy A if you do all of the assignments and study what she puts on the study guides.
Class was disorganized and things were constantly changing. She rambles on for a while during class, but she is easy to tune out. Lab was boring and weird. Make sure to keep aware of the due dates in lab as well as keep up with the lectures because the tests were fairly simple and took examples from the lectures.
She is a little awkward at times, but overall a good professor who cares about her students
Absolutely awful. All tests are at delta, lab grade helped carry me to pass. Test are so long and no notes allowed, takes so much memorization and sometimes covered things not in class. She also doesn't teach in class, everything is online lectures that you are supposed to watch before class. DO NOT TAKE her class
I don't agree with the number of low scores she was given. She was a great teacher and very pleasant. Her tests were fairly easy as long as you studied, she gave lots of grace for late homework and extra credit. The class is a flipped format, so you watch the short lectures online for homework then do activities in class. Definitely recommend.
I took this class over the summer, and her organization for her online course was very neat and easy to navigate. She had various materials to help you study for the exams, but some of the links don't work. Labs are a huge part of your grade, but just communicate well with your group members and do your part!
She doesn't explain things well, and often not at all. Don't take her class.
Do not take, she is absolutely terrible. She seriously spends half of the class rambling and doesn't teach you anything. She is very lazy by using recordings from 2020 and is so worried about being politically correct to not hurt anyone's feelings. I would unenroll in college before I took her again.
She is the worst teacher I have had in my 13 years of school. She is completely incapable of explaining things and expects us to just read her mind. We have to do all of the learning and work OUTSIDE of class and then class is literally just her yapping about nothing. It is time consumping but the level of learning is shallow. PLEASE AVOID!!
I do not like Paciulli as a person, but since this class is flipped, it really doesn't matter. The lectures you have to watch will give you the info you need and her tests are so easy its not even funny. It's high school level material, you'll do great if you just put in effort. She's annoying and scattered, but if you want an easy A, she'll do.
do NOT take if you are not a stem major. also do NOT take unless this class is absolutely mandatory and unavoidable. Trust me.
All she does is ramble, Her lectures might as well be a Q and A because you will NOT learn anything from her. She can also be very condescending
Her lectures aren't necessary because she literally requires you to learn the materials beforehand. The exams are vague, and sometimes the correct answers are actually incorrect. She's an okay person, but don't take her class if you struggle with self-study.
because of this class, I don't look both ways when crossing the road anymore. i wish i was joking...
If you want a teacher that rambles about her personal life, then this is for you.
She is a very sweet professor who cares that you understand the material. Her class wasn't the easiest but wasn't hard either, but it could def be online only since the lectures don't teach you that much. She does do extra credit, she provides study material, and the assignments outside of the exams are easy A's. I recommend her!
Dr. Paciulli has a very upbeat attitude and it's obvious she cares about her students as people. However, NC State has BIO 181 with her being done in a 'flipped classroom' - meaning essentially all the learning and notetaking gets done online, making the class 5x harder. Only take BIO181 with her if you're ready to do lots of work and are serious.
I loved her! she is the sweetest and so funny. she tries to keep learning upbeat and is constantly checking in on her students. Most of the learning is done through prerecorded lectures on moodle but she provides ample amount of materials to help prepare you for every exam. Put in the effort you do for every other class and you'll do just fine!
DO NOT take this class with her. I failed because of her HORRIBLE teaching.
It is a flipped classroom, so you watch lectures outside of class which is annoying and not particularly helpful, but she reteaches during class times. Compared to other bio teachers, she delivers much easier exams and assignments because she does not overreach outside of the curriculum. Be prepared to study and do work outside the classroom.
She definitely knows what she is talking about, but doesn't do a good job of explaining. It is a lot of outside of class time studying and really learning the material. It is a flipped classroom so there are pros and cons to that in itself.
She does a great job of checking in on her students, but overall she does not explain things well and a lot of the learning is done outside of class. With the reverse classroom style, it wastes a lot of time when it could be used for note taking and answering questions. The notes are also disorganized and hard to understand sometimes.
Okay, idk how any of y'all got below a B in this class. Paciulli is not the most interesting or well spoken teacher, but her class is so easy that it is truly embarrassing that some of y'all failed. Her tests are so easy. If you just show up in class and do the bare minimum for her assignments this is an easy A. Lab is 30% of your grade, FYI.
Ignore all the other ratings. Paciulli WANTS you to pass. This is a 4 credit hour class. If you put in a proportional amount of effort, you will excel. Yes, her lectures are not cohesive. However, she will literally tell you exactly what will be on the final. This class is so easy if you actually try.
Do not take this class with her if you want to learn. Lectures are 50 min, she'll only go over questions students post on moodle page. Actual material is in 5 year old playposit vids. 90% of the things she says in lectures have nothing to do with actual course content. Genuinely did not know grade until it was officially put in…
She is very nice but just yaps in class. Flipped classroom so you learn through videos outside of class. The moodle page is confusing. Exams are not too bad but have a lot of information. Study guides includes things we don't cover but don't appear on exams which makes it confusing. The lab was okay but involves a lot of group work. Don't recommend
If you are good at teaching yourself and are okay with a flipped teaching style then I would recommend you to take Dr. Paciulli. Personally, I believe her exams were very easy. She tells you things that will be on the exams. She also provides all the possible essay questions for the exams. Homework is easy. But she is rude to students on occasion.
Dr. P was good. As long as you attended class, did the TopHats, and completed your homework, you were set for an A. Her lecture material is a good reflection on what is on the exams. As long as you study all the material given, you're good. She was a bit rude to students, but it wasn't bad.
