This professor helps you feel like a contributing member of the class. She involves and respects each learning type and empowers individuals. No question or comment feels dumb or unimportant. She guides the class discussions well, teaches materials and gives other resources if needed.
Lisa truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed. We had lots of fun in class and as long as we participate we were able to learn. Truly you get out of that class what you put in. There are assignments but they're not that difficult and are made to help you in your other classes
Lisa is an amazing teacher! This class was helpful in teaching me skills to use for my other courses and it was not stressful. There weren't any tests luckily. There were a few assignments throughout the class, but none were particularly difficult. Overall a super helpful class that I recommend to everyone!
Lisa is such an amazing teacher! Definitely the best teacher for effective studying and learning. We do a lot of in-class assignments and she does expect you to be there, but she is willing to work with you for anything! It is not a hard class, and you really learn so much about how to be a successful student. 10/10 recommend
She is awesome! you don't ever really need to worry about your grade in the class and she does a good job with lecture. She is very understanding and loves her students I would definitely recommend her to anyone
Professor Parkinson is a really wonderful and caring professor! There is no such thing as a "dumb" question or answer in her class. Assignments are always very clear and she gives several extra credit assignments.
THIS COURSE IS AN EASY A CLASS! BUT you definitely have to work for it. It was a live remote class so it was kind of tough but I loved how she still cared for her students and she was so nice to us. Wish it were an in-person course so I get to know her better!
The class was online thanks to COVID but Lisa is really chill. If you actually want self improvement you should have no problem taking this class and will for sure get an A. Offers a good amount of extra credit but you shouldn't need it since the assignments are typically easier.
Professor Parkinson was an awesome professor! She made an effort to get to know every single one of us in the class and she was always in a good mood. The course is pretty relaxed; you have to complete a few readings and assignments throughout the semester but none of them are particularly difficult. I would recommend this class.
She is an overall good person, but as a professor, she's the worst. This class was online, but due to technical difficulties, I wasn't able to attend half the course. She wouldn't give me a fair chance to succeed despite doing all I could do. If you're also a victim to technical difficulties that are out of your control, you WILL FAIL!
She is a great professor and is extremely helpful. Would definitely take another class from her.
She's the best! Super nice and very approachable. Her class was super easy and helped me out with a lot of other classes, even over zoom.
Professor Parkinson is wonderful!! She is so kind and cares a lot about her students and their lives. There is almost always a reading to do before each class, sometimes short, sometimes long. She wants her students to succeed in all aspects of college and in life. Even with class online, she was engaging. Definitely take from her, she is great!
Honestly so fun and outgoing. She tries to make classes super fun instead of normal boring classes. Even with everything online she did really good to have everyone have opportunities to chime in if they wanted to. Super awesome teacher, really cares about students and their lives. Thanks Professor Parkinson for a great semester!
Highly recommended for freshman! Professor Parkinson is a kind teacher, and a good friend outside of class! I really like the assignments. Most of them were application of concepts that had been learned in class.
I seriously loved this class! It's great to take your freshman year for some good study tips that you'll use throughout college or take it later on for an easier class to lighten your course load. It's an awesome class and Professor Parkinson is seriously the best. Her lectures are entertaining (sometimes participation based so go t class). Easy A
Professor Parkinson is one of my favorite professors at BYU. I had her during my last semester at BYU and she is inspirational, enthusiastic, and compassionate. She truly wants the best for her students and I really appreciated her lessons. Despite this being an online ZOOM class, she makes the most of it and I looked forward to each class!
Even though it was a zoom class, Professor Parkinson still did everything she could to connect with her students. She gave great notes and feedback on bigger projects or assignments. Every class was a slideshow lecture, but it was kept interactive and entertaining. The homework assignments were mostly short readings, and a few bigger projects.
Great and fun class! Just make sure you finish all the work and participate and you will do fine.
She's great at getting back to you, and her feedback is encouraging! Highly recommend to ANYONE, in any year, not quite sure what they want do! She has a different department's adviser come each class to introduce their college (which is highly informative) and gets you connected to them. She truly cares about her students, and wants them to excel!
Lisa is probably my favorite teacher I have ever had during my college career. She really cares about each student and is very workable.
Professor Parkinson is amazing. She shows interest in all of her students and wants to help you succeed not just in her class, but other classes. The material wasn't hard at all. Highly recommend.
Professor Parkinson is amazing! Her class was so informational and helpful to my study habits! I found that all I had to do was attend class, do my readings, and stay up on the few assignments given in class, and I was absolutely fine as far as grades go. She really cares about her students and will work with you any way she can to help you!
Lisa Parkinson is a fantastic teacher. Her Student Development 109 class is extremely useful and requires very little homework. Her lectures have helped me develop a passion for learning and have improved my study habits. I would recommend this class to anyone who desires to improve their studying and learning skills.
Lisa Parkinson is one of my favorite professors of ALL time at BYU. I wish I would have talked to her my first semester. She is an amazing mentor outside of class. She's respectable, so she won't let you walk all over her and extremely caring - she'll give you a chance to really prove yourself! TAKE HER CLASS.
Professor Parkinson is one of the nicest teachers I've had. She is sweet, caring, and just overall a great person! She teaches different habits to create and many ways to study and become a better learner. Really easy class but effective. She also creates a safe and welcoming classroom environment Highly recommend taking this as a freshman!
Lisa is a wonderful professor, she loves teaching and helping others to find what they need, the class could be easy if you do not want to learn, I did my part and it costs me the effort by I will never regret taking this class, I love what I learned, the spirit and environment, she is my favorite Professor. If you need guidance come to this class.
Professor Parkinson is seriously incredible. If you show up to class and do your homework, you will get an A. However, the true beauty of taking this class from Professor Parkinson are the study skills that you acquire. She is very kind and approachable. 10/10 would take another class from her.
I love Lisa!! I've never felt like a teacher was invested in me as a person, not just as a student until I took this class with her. She is so understanding and will work with you in tough situations! There are a lot of assignments done in class that can't be made up if you miss, so attendance is important. And you learn so many helpful skills!
Lisa is an absolutely amazing professor I highly suggest taking any class you can from her. Extremely focused and yet so caring towards her students. She includes a very reasonable amount of homework and prioritizes learning over busy work. HIGHLY SUGGEST!!!
Lisa is THE BEST! She truly cares about each of her students and what's going on in their lives. I learned so many study skills in her class, and I am a better learner for taking this class. The homework and projects aren't hard. Most is just short readings before class and submit something you learned from it. Take this class!!!
She REALLY cares about each student. She works hard to give personalized feedback to help you as an individual
I loved her! She cared about each of her students more than just in class and their life in class. She made sure we learned about ourselves and prepared us to succeed beyond this class. I have over 100%. As long as you submit assignments you are good to go! She takes attendance but ur grade doest depend on it!
Very kind and considerate person. She makes an effort to learn everyone in the class and teaches concepts that apply for the rest of life.
Lisa is the BEST! this class is really easy, but encourages individual exploration. It is super tailored to you. You have reading due each class that are relatively short, and a few assignments here and there.
Lisa is amazing and so kind. She's willing to work with you if you have any concerns or issues and is very flexible with your needs. Most of the activities and assignments are just fun opportunities to learn more about yourself. No papers, no tests, only one little presentation that stands out to me. Highly recommend!
Professor Parkinson is a great professor! She's so nice and understanding with her students. Her class is easy and you'll get a good grade if you do the assignments, which are really helpful. Because of this class I now have a good idea of what I want to do for a career. Definitely take her if you can!
Amazing class, amazing professor. I wasn't sure the career exploration course would really be effective in helping me choose a major/career, but the assignments were extremely helpful, and I learned of many resources that have helped me choose a major. Dr. Parkinson is legit. She is incredibly kind and the class was no stress.
Students will feel heard in this class and she will help with make up work if a student misses a class. Very considerate and great at conveying complicated concepts. Very stimulating and very enjoyable class.
Lisa Parkinson is an amazing professor and STDEV 109 is a great class. It is not man easy class you will have to do work and readings but its all reasonable and the skills that you learn are worth it. You should be in class because it is hard to catch up if you miss a lot.
Loved this class! Easy homework load, can work ahead. Show up to class b/c there are some activities where if you are there that's your grade for the assignment. Super caring, willing to work with you and help you succeed!!! I never had trouble with any assignment, learned a lot and there is a lot of useful reading/video material. Highly recommend.
She was understanding when emergencies came up and was always willing to re-explain material without belittling the student. She uses a slideshow powerpoint with a good flow from topic to topic but class is discussion based. There is usually a short pre-reading for every class.
She is very accommodative when a student needs help. Overall a very reasonable and good teacher.
This is a fairly easy class in terms of grading, but I highly recommend this class and this teacher. She is really caring and thoughtful towards all of her students, and a lot of what she teaches is what I consider essential if you want to do well in college. Even if it's tough to fit in your schedule, take this class and take it with this teacher.
Pretty much if you do the assignment you will get a 100 on it. A couple longer readings and very short papers. Professor Parkinson is awesome though, very understanding and caring and willing to work with you as she really wants you to succeed not only in class, but in life!
The class structure was very well put together. It consisted of pre-class readings and the class has slides that have very beneficial information on how to be successful in your academic life. If you do the work with effort then you can basically get a 100. There was one group project with presentations but nothing too stressful. Take this class!
Lisa was great! She really cared about the students and made sure we were enjoying our class experience. Although there were some hefty reading assignments, most other assignments were fun and easy to complete. Lisa also offers lots of extra credit opportunities and will work with you if you're struggling. I definitely recommend her for STDEV 109!

Professor Parkinson is very easy to work with, and she is very understanding of different circumstances that happen in life. Her classes were always very clear, and it was easy to get in contact with her about questions or anything.
Professor Parkinson cares about you! from day one she knew almost everyone's names, and she remembers things that you say. I loved her open perspective and kindness towards students even though we don't know what we want to be yet. If you take her class you will love her!
Professor Parkinson was so kind, always willing to help, and very intelligent! I learned so much from this course that will help me with my career journey! She is a very trustworthy person that genuinely wants you to succeed. I loved taking a class from her!
Lisa Parkinson is one of the most caring individuals I have ever met! She cares about her students and their success so much. This class was so helpful and useful. We never had assignments that felt like 'busywork'. Everything we did expanded our options and helped us get to know ourselves better. Lisa is the best!
Dr. Parkinson is very caring! She takes time to learn about all her students. She has the mindset of helping her students succeed rather than just teaching a class. She's also very understanding with assignments. The homework does not take much time at all. 100% reccommend taking one of her classes!
Dr. Parkinson is the most sincere and caring professor you will have at BYU. She takes genuine interest in you both academically & personally. She has developed this class to not only introduce you to pretty much all career options but to understand yourself better so you know what career matches your personality & passions.
She is a great professor and really wants the best for her students. She gives a lot of great alignments to help broaden your career search and the class looks a lot at personal values and traits and priorities. In the end, you are better able to make a decision towards a major through figuring more out about yourself.
One of the most caring teachers I know. She is so dedicated to helping her students succeed it's very inspiring. Assignments are all meaningful and purposeful. The only small way I can think of that would've made it better for me is an earlier / more frequent heads up for the career interviews (it's easy for students to forget).
Lisa is an example of somebody who obviously cares about her students. Once, there was an assignment she forgot to tell us about. Instead of extending the deadline or expecting us to speed through it, she just...deleted it. She's a ray of positivity and wants nothing more than the best for everyone. She treats everyone in the class with respect.
Professor Parkinson cares deeply about her students and their success, and it shows in everything she does! The assignments are designed to help you and if you do them with sincerity you'll learn a ton and be able to pass the class easily. Her expectations are clear and she wants to help you learn.
Overall, I really did like this class (STDEV 109). I learned a couple of good tips and tricks, things I haven't thought about before. The most valuable thing that I learned from this class was the power of active recall and how to study effectively. She have other great tips, but sometimes the lectures lacked substance or a concrete message.
Professor Parkinson is the most caring, loving, and gospel-oriented professor I have ever had. Each lesson relates to our mission on earth, why we are here, and why we matter. It is super important to attend class and participate in class discussions to get the most out of this class. I definitely recommend this class if you struggle with studying.
Lisa is the kindest person I've ever met. Her class is so easy, but her lectures are uplifting and positive and never stressful. She will extend, regrade, and give extra credit, just to make your life easier. If you're looking for an easy class, this is it. My only complaint is sometimes the assignments felt like busy work, but still so easy!
This teacher was great! If you are okay with a spiritually heavy teacher then this is the professor for you. Would take again!
Professor Parkinson is a very good teacher. She sincerely cares about her students and wants the best for them! There is a good deal of reading in the class; however, the readings solidify and enhance what you will learn in class. Good course!
Lisa is one of the kindest, most caring people I've met. She is very respectful towards her students and her lectures are very inspiring, uplifting, and applicable to life. Highly recommend taking one of her classes!
Lisa is an amazing person and amazing teacher!! I love her! She will help you all she can. I had an assignment that I was falling behind in and she totally helped me come up with another way that I could still do it and get full credit. She is so personal with the students and literally will follow you back on social media if you want haha.
One of the most amazing Professors you could ever have... Incredibly caring and kind. The class itself is engaging and informative, I recommend taking this class if you feel like you want to learn more about how to learn and improve as a student.
An absolutely fantastic professor. She combines slides, lecture, and discussions for a wonderful learning experience. The homework will help you apply what you learn to your other classes.
Dr. Parkinson is excellent! I took her Career Explorations class and it was fantastic. She is so smart and caring, and her lectures are funny and inspiring. She does her research, has tons of relevant life experience, and encourages us to learn and take initiative outside of class. I would absolutely recommend taking this class or any of hers.
Professor Parkinson is the best. She is super sweet, very genuine. She is good at helping you discover yourself and she gives amazing advice, very educated women. Definitely one of my role models.
She is an amazing professor who cares so much about the success of her students. She truly does try to help each of her students reach their potential. It is a super chill class but if you put in the effort to do the assignments the way she designed them to be done, you can get a lot out of the class.
Professor Parkinson is the sweetest lady ever! She puts so much effort into her classes, and she genuinely cares about her students so much. She gives really good feedback on almost every assignment, and it's a super easy A, but also a really helpful and rewarding class if you put in the effort.
Professor Parkinson is awesome. She always has amazing and chic slideshows/lectures and really cares about students' success. The small class is awesome because you get to know people more closely and become like a family. This class taught me a lot about who I am and HOW to explore careers. Highly recommend.
There are some readings but they're easy. The assignments can take some time but this class really is whatever you put into it. You could get an easy A by BS-ing everything but it can be so useful and formative if you let it. Prof. Parkinson is incredibly understanding and wants the best for each student. She puts a lot of work into everything.
This class is an easy A if you just show up and turn in the few assignments needed-but if you're going to take it, put in as much effort as you can because you can get a lot out of it if you're intentional. Lisa is so kind and explains concepts well, she really cares about her students!
Dr. Parkinson is incredible. She takes so much interest in her students and designed an easy to follow course. Unfortunately I did not apply myself very highly in her class and I definitely regret that. The information she gives is way useful. Every class someone from a different department at school would come and talk to us which is super useful.
Professor Parkinson did a fantastic job with finding your true personality and connecting those to a desired career that you want to pursue.
Dr. Parkinson is the kindest teacher you'll ever have. She gives meaningful feedback on nearly every assignment and really cares about all of her students. This class is an easy A, but you get out of it what you put in. Assignments are geared towards helping you learn more about yourself and the readings are really interesting
Dr. Parkinson is the goat frfr. She really just wants to see success and help students to reach their goals. The class was super interactive and full of good and helpful information about how to decide what the right fit is for you, and the things you may need to work on.
The sweetest professor and genuinely cares to help, give good advice and great feedback on assignments.
Professor Parkinson is one of the amazing teachers in our collage. She is full of love, light and energy. She lifts her students up and does everything that can help us to be more successful. She knows her students' names and calls them by their names -- it makes me feel so loved and cared. She is so spiritual too. She respects her students.
She cares a lot about you and will work with you if you need. Not a harsh grader and teaches with powerpoints and discussions.
Professor Parkinson was an incredible teacher and this class was super helpful! The homework was not very hard and I was spending about an hour a week on homework readings. There are a lot of in class assignments so attendance is mandatory. She cares so deeply about each of us and learned our names within the first week. 10/10 would recommend!
Professor Parkinson is incredible and genuinely cares about her students. You will get what you put into this class; it is extremely helpful if you put in the effort.
Professor Parkinson is amazing! She is full of love and energy. I never got bored listening to her and she had awesome real-life experiences to share in class. She is so flexible and willing to work in students. If you do the assignments you will get an A! I would highly recommend taking a class from her.
Professor Parkinson is awesome!! Every class was interesting and you can tell she really cares about her students. She always gives thoughtful feedback on assignments which really meant a lot to me. She is also super flexible and is willing to work with you. I learned a lot about myself through this class and I highly recommend taking it
Dr. Parkinson is kind, caring, and willing to work with her students. Some of the assignments take time, but they are so worth it. This course teaches a lot about oneself, and is easy if you are willing to put forth some effort. Her teaching style is focused on the students and helping find their own individual path.
Professor Parkinson was so helpful and caring. From the first day of class she knew all of our names. She is very attentive and gives personalized feedback. She also gives great readings that helped me understand myself. You can easily get an A and not try. But if you put in the effort you will pass and learn essential things about who you are.
She is so awesome! She knows all of us by name, and genuinely cares about our progress. Class was fun and I learned a lot, and she allowed a lot of opportunities to get to know the other students.
She was very kind and helpful. She taught a lot of harder concepts in a fun way that really kept the class engaged. She would give great feedback and was very accommodating and wanted to see students succeed.
Awesome professor! Dr. Parkinson is very kind and genuinely cares about all of her students. She makes class interesting and fun, and there are many opportunities to meet other students.
Dr. Parkinson is a fantastic professor! She cares about all the students in her class and wants nothing more than for you to succeed. She grades consistently, and she gives good feedback on your plans and what you learn. STDEV 109 is very helpful, and she is a very helpful professor. I would highly recommend her.
Professor Parkinson is incredible! I highly recommend her. She is seriously the best.
Professor Parkinson is so kind and really cares about her students! She cared about us each individually. This was an easy class (reading weekly, in class activities and discussions).
