Great partial credit on tests. Just attempt the homework she assigns and go to class you should do fine. She likes friday quizzes, but will do the lesson on that quiz prior. She definitely knows they subject, but just be prepared to participate in class, otherwise she will think you don't understand. Overall very good
She is a great teacher who truly cares about teaching the material and wants everyone to do well. She can be a little boring, but it is only because she is making sure everyone understands the material. Great partial credit on tests...Great teacher would take her class again in a heartbeat.
I had her for honors Cal2 and really liked her as a teacher and person. Taking into consideration that it was an honors class, I found it pretty easy. I got a high B and that was without doing much homework at all and not studying until night before. I would definitely take her again. grades fairly and she's very nice
Go after class or to office hours if you don't understand something, she is very helpful and really wants you to understand the material. Do the homework and go to class and its pretty easy.
She's a great teacher and conveys the material well. Sometimes she goes over the easy stuff a little too much but that's okay. She is very helpful and goes over homework in class. Great partial credit on tests and I would take her again.
Tread carefully...she is very helpful during office hours, but can be very sarcastic during class. Do not use your cell phone, laptop, do any other homework, or talk in class. Although it's an auditorium class, she will call you out if you are not paying close attention and taking notes. As far as teaching, she explains things pretty thoroughly.
Dr. Peterson was one of the best professors I had at Auburn last semester. Her class wasn't too hard, but not because she failed to teach anything. Rather, she taught the material so well that she made the material easier. She was also very helpful when I went to her office hours. I would definitely recommend Dr. Peterson to anyone.
Dr. Peterson is an awesome teacher. She explains things well and answers any questions you have. Homework is optional and attendance is also optional but she does take role. She uses the same tests year after year. I recommend her.
She explains things in baby steps. And if you don't understand she encourages questions. She lets you drop grades, gives bonus points and extra credit. SHE WILL CALL YOU OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF CLASS! So don't text or anything like that. Cal 2 is overall a very hard subject but she tries her best to make it easy.
Dr. Peterson is a great teacher. She explains things very clear in class and always makes sure the class understands. She goes over the homework she assigns and gives quizzes based on the homework. Her test are a lot like the homework. I would take her again is the opportunity arose.
CAL 2 is a hard class but she is a lot better than the other otpions in the math department because she speaks good english. Class is optional but good to go everyday. Allows you to drop the lowest test grade and final is similar to the tests. Doesnt check hw but do it to understand it & she wil put some problems from hw and notes directly on test.
Mrs. Peterson was an amazing teacher. She would take the material in a way that everyone could understand it, and if someone didnt she will try again until they do. Her test are straight from the notes and homework. Her class fromat is she teaches one day then the next she goes over homework.
She is very strict but can be nice and personable. She is very helpful in answering questions outside of class. About 2-3 homework assignments a week. She doesn't check homework but it is best to do it. Overall, goo teacher.
Fantastic teacher. Teaches the lesson one day and then goes over any questions from HW the next day. Doesn't take up HW but I recommend doing it. Go to class! More than willing to explain everything until you understand. Drops your lowest test. Promotes learning math not just memorizing. As long as you are there to take quizzes you get at least 60%
She's kinda hard but grades fair and gives partial credit.
Really great teacher. She made learning really easy and interesting. Best math teacher at Auburn by far.
Wow, I don't know if this is only for her stats classes, but I felt as though her tests were usually pretty insanely difficult. She does seem eager to have you learn, though, and she grades other assignments relatively easy. Has an annoying habit of talking to the board and not facing the class; made her unclear at times.
She is kind of mean. She does not let you leave the room for ANYTHING. Her tests are kind of hard at first, but as you learn they get easier. The final was extremely easy. If you go to her office hours and email her, she is very helpful.
2790 is a hard class, but she is very helpful in teaching the material. She is very generous in giving partial credit and is one of the best teachers I have had at Auburn so far.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Highly recommend.
Dr. Peterson is great! Take her if you can! Gives partial credit for everything!! Drops lowest test/ quiz grade. Always willing to help!!
Best calculus teacher ever! Take her. She is the bomb! Very helpful and I actually learned something.
This teacher teaches well but her tests are insane and over demanding.
She is bad, she gives you a ton of assignments that are worth next to nothing on your final grade (ex. 1%, 3% ) that take forever. The tests are extremely hard. Unclear in class and can't teach in a classroom setting. She can teach decently 1on1. This class will be extremely time consuming, tests every 2 weeks. If you can, take someone else.
pretty decent teacher. 5 tests, drops lowest test grade. that's nice, but her test problems are almost nothing like the problems done in class. spends a lot of time with back to class, writing on board, so not much time for questions. homework and attendance not required, but highly recommended
Notes were easy, but her tests were the hardest problems she could find. The final demolished my grade. Her quizzes are easy but only 5% of your grade. She drops lowest of everything but it barely makes a difference. She's willing to help outside of class. Very nice lady, a little weird. But her tests are impossible. Stay away if possible.
Tests were incredibly hard. Will work on half of a problem in class and then tell you to "go home and think about it". Completely ruined my GPA. After never getting less than an A in any math class and passing the AP Calc 1 test with a 4 i completely failed her class.
Phenomenal professor. If you go to class, do the homework, and ask questions, then it's easy. Her class is based off the notes and she tells you what is on the exam. She works every problem from homework that is asked. She is very willing to help her students learn. Would take again!
This was by far the hardest class I've ever taken. Dr. Peterson is incredibly nice and will do her best to help you one on one. However, her tests are crazy tough. I have never received below a B in a math course in my life and almost failed the class. If you've never seen Calculus before I would not recommend taking her class.
Dr. Peterson makes the class far more complicated then it needs to be. She goes way too fast in class and is very confusing. She is helpful in office hours, but good luck trying to see her because there is always a line out the door. Get another teacher if possible
You better walk in on day one with basic statistic knowledge or you are doomed. She doesn't take any time to slow down and explain concepts. Class consists of just copying confusing formulas off the board, and multiple iClicker quizzes and online assignments that hardly affect your grade. Do Not Recommend.
She was very difficult to understand. She didn't know how to approach the material and teach it to students who have never seen Calculus before. Very helpful one on one so MAKE SURE TO GO TO OFFICE HOURS. This was the first C I've ever made in my life and I wouldn't recommend taking her at all for this course.
She wanted students to learn, but it seems like she didn't know how to teach a large class. During office hours she was helpful, but I had to teach myself a majority of the material. Take someone else if you get the chance.
She is pretty scatterbrained. She doesn't seem to know what to do in class, so most days she just goes over the optional homework problems and then we get out early. She can be confusing sometimes, but she will answer every question and really wants us to understand and do well! Office hours are really helpful! I recommend her !!
I liked Dr. Peterson's class a lot. It was very organized. She gives you optional homework problems to do nightly, and online assignments. We also have iClicker quizzes. She teaches really fast which could be a little frustrating sometimes. She scaled 3 out of 4 of our tests, which helped a lot! I think this class was pretty easy.
Dr. Peterson does curve exams which is nice, but her lectures are confusing. Attendance is not mandatory but definitely show up because there are i clicker quizzes two times a week. Focus on the old exams and the chapters in the book and you should be fine
This class wasn't easy. She drops a test grade, some homework grades, and an clicker quiz grade I believe. I was often really confused in class, and I felt like I had no idea what was going on most days. She seems really unapproachable. I wasn't a fan of this class, and I would never take her again. Her tests aren't that bad though.
One of the rudest ladies I have ever met. She is nice at first, but don't let her fool you. She is mean to anyone that asks a question and will not answer anything. She basically tells you you're stupid in front of the whole class if you have a question. DO NOT take her. Tests are not hard if you make the effort to teach yourself, though
I took this lady and she is very strict about cell phones first off. I would also suggest getting real comfortable with either going to her office hours or learning on your own because she speeds through her lectures. If you can, take someone else if possible but she should be your last resort.
If you want the easiest way through stats 1, this lady is the way to go. Compared to the other stats teachers at AU she is very easy and gives decently fair tests. However it's still a hard class so be prepared to do the homework, but focus on the online documents she posts to study for exams. She WILL yell at you for having your phone out.
Dr. Peterson is great as long you show up to class, don't walk out early and pay attention. She doesn't like phones or talking in her classroom but she is really nice if you ask her questions after class or in her office hours. She drops quite a bit of grades but you can get a lower grade if you just slack off. I would take her again and try more.
Dr. Peterson is a very good teacher and lady. If you pay attention to her lectures and go to class, her class is very straight forward. It definitely helps to build a relationship with her. I went to her office often with questions about previous tests and new material. She curved my final grade of 89.85 to an A because she knew I cared about it.
Very good professor. willing to help you understand anything that is difficult for your with accessible office hours and plenty of opportunities for questions. there is lots of material covered, so make sure to go to class, do the homework, and ask questions when you need to.
Dr. Peterson is a very good professor. She taught almost every topic in Honors Calc I in a way that made it easy to understand. She also gives plenty of drop grades on quizzes and the lowest of four tests is dropped. The problem is her tests can be unnecessarily hard. If you don't study extensively before each test it is very easy to get a D.
Dr. Peterson is a good stats professor. The class consisted of 4 exams, the final, 6 homeworks, and about 10 or so one question IClicker quizzes. There are many other homeworks that were not graded. The lowest quiz, homework, and exam is dropped (excluding final). Go to class and pay attention, do the suggested homeworks and you will be fine.
Knowledgeable professor, fairly good teacher. Tests were unnecessarily hard, and overall counted for about 80% of the final grade. Didnt assign online homework very often.
Dr. Peterson does a very good job of explaining the material and is approachable outside of class if you have any questions. She teaches mainly through lectures, but they are engaging and useful. Her tests are very difficult but as long as you do the homework and presentation-problems routinely you will do fine. I would take her again.
Dr. Peterson is the best. Her lectures are sometimes a bit fast paced but if you have a preexisting knowledge of calc it's a breeze. She drops your lowest exam and online assignment. Quizzes are not hard at all. Her tests are very fair (although the 2nd surprised many because it was much harder than the first. Overall a great prof. Would take again
Calculus 2 is a hard class, but she was pretty clear about what would be on our tests and quizzes. She did a lot of example problems in class.
I would 10/10 recommend Dr. Peterson. Tests and quizzes are hard, but she drops so many that a couple poor grades won't absolutely wreck you. Attendance is not mandatory, but her lectures are very helpful and I would not make a habit of skipping class. You definitely have to put in effort, but she has very realistic expectations for her students.
She did a great job teaching the subject in class. I never really had any trouble understanding the concepts after she taught them, and she will answer any questions you have. She is very easy to talk to, and she is more than happy to meet you outside of class if you have any questions on tests or anything. She usually drops the lowest test.
Dr. Peterson is extremely smart, helpful at answering questions, and she also means what she says, so don't piss her off. She does her job well, and I was glad to have her.
Dr. Peterson is a great professor. She is always willing to help outside of her class, but she usually explained the material well enough in the lecture to where that isn't necessary. I would recommend Dr. Peterson to anyone looking for a fair course. It is not an easy class but everything she gave us on a test we had seen before.
Mrs. Peterson was a decent professor. She gives online assignments and in-class iClicker questions that basic work to buffer your grade up a bit, as they are pretty easy. Her final is incredibly easy if you study enough, but beware her exams through the semester. She likes to grade incredibly tough on small details and throw in tough word questions
Comes across stern in class, but in office hours she's very nice and incredibly helpful. Do the HW, go to office hours and go over any questions you didn't get, and re-study the questions we did in class before the test, and you've got an A. The test are not easy, but not harder than the HW. The final is easier than the tests. Great class!
Dr. Peterson has a very cranky attitude in class but if you go to her office hours she's very nice and helpful and wants you to succeed. I went to office hours once at the end of the year and i regretted not going earlier. The course is tricky because its more of a conceptual class than a class where you follow formulas. its all probability.
She is quite hateful in class, but apparently if you go to her office hours and stuff like that, she'll be nice to you. You get homework from the textbook most class days, but she doesn't check or take it up, so don't worry too much if you don't finish. You can only use two very specific kinds of calculators. TI-30X IIS or TI-30XA
She goes very fast but explains pretty well especially if you ask and even if you still dont get it shell find another way to explain it. Four tests, she drops one. Some online assignments that are easy and she drops your lowest also had i clicker quizzes but would announce when they were and would get some credit just for being there and answer
Very clearly explains things, if a little quickly at times. She drops a quiz (or two), a test, and a homework, so if you miss something or don't understand a unit it's super helpful. Go to office hours if you have a question, and study the homework to get ready for the tests
Her lectures are very clear but fast-paced--she usually covers one or more new topics each day, although she spends some days going over homework. The exams are relatively easy and similar to (if not easier than) homework she assigns, although the second exam was significantly harder than the others, but she drops 1 (along with 1 homework and quiz)
Very nice, and very fast paced. No homework and quizzes are easy. She assigns presentation problems, and lets one person go up and present for a 100. At the end of the semester she takes the average of your 5 best quizzes and includes presentation problems, so it is a free boost. For tests, they are very short (5-7 questions ) and hard questions.
Professor Petersons class is an easy A if you took AP Calc AB in high school. She drops the lowest test grade and her tests arent that hard but they dont have a lot of questions. Go to her office hours and get her to like you because she can be mean, shes a great person if you get to know her. She wants you to do well.
Dr. Peterson is challenging for anyone and many AP people finished below an A. However, she is a great teacher and cares. Show up to class and pay attention. She notices.
Dr. Peterson is a relatively okay professor, feels like she goes a bit too fast , however. She is very strict and does not let you leave while shes lecturing under any circumstances. Has bad days where she has a short temper and often feels like the class is rushed. Taught the course material fine just not an enjoyable person to interact with daily
Not that bad of a class, and she wants you to do well. Get all the points you can from presentation problems
Calc 2 is very hard, but Dr. Peterson is a good teacher. The homework is very helpful, and her quizzes will help your grade. However, she can be a bit short-tempered and rude sometimes.
Dr. Peterson made calc 2 pretty easy: her lectures were clear and I was never surprised by what was put on an exam. Homework is optional, but it definitely helps you understand the topics, so I suggest doing it. On exams and quizzes, she gives a LOT of partial credit, so a completely wrong problem may still get half credit.
Dr. Peterson might very well be the best math teacher I have ever had in my life. The clarity she gives the subject matter is unrivaled, and I am so thankful I ended up in her class. She gives excellent partial credit, drops several quiz and homework grades, and is very clear about how she grades. Tests accurately reflect class content.
She is awful. Rushes through lectures and does an awful job of explaining content to the class. She also gets mad when people ask questions so youre better off just teaching yourself calculus. Test have a very small amount of questions so getting one problem wrong basically screws your grade. If you get her as a professor good luck and get a tutor
Good calculus teacher as long as you pay attention. Exams can be hard but there's a lot of partial credit when grading. Must study.
In her lectures, I either went cross-eyed or cried. She doesn't explain anything. She just works out problems on the board and assumes that's enough teaching. I had to get tutoring twice a week just to stay afloat. Plus, she does not like to admit shes wrong. I once asked her about a typo on a deadline and she refused to listen and called me wrong.
Her lectures are very fast, if you look away one second your lost. Pretty straightforward about what was on the exams but the amount of questions would range from 4-8. She lets you drop one at the end of the semester. However, calculus is hard and takes a lot of work no matter the teacher. Compared to other professors shes one of the best.
Peterson goes fast in lecture, but does give you many details on what she covers; pay attention, or youll get lost. Attendance is not mandatory, but theres a reason to attend. You have lots of homework, but 3 lowest grades get dropped. The two lowest quizzes get dropped, and the lowest exam gets dropped. You are graded on work, not just the answer.
Generally very rude during lectures and not understanding. If youve taken calculus before, completely forget what youve learned because if you dont work it her way shell count off an absurd amount of points. I recommend finding another professor thats more kind and personable.
This class would be for students who have previously taken a high school level calculus course. She expects most of her students have and brushes over key concepts. She flies through lectures and won't take questions from students. I had a tutor and studied four hours a night before tests and was still battling to keep up. Just don't take her.
Exams are a big part of your grade and only had like 4-8 questions. WebAssign homework and quizzes were easy. In class, she did a lot of examples, but not a lot of actual teaching so if you have done calculus before, you should be okay. Would not recommend this professor for students new to calc.
I took AP calc in high school (and passed). So I found the content of this class fairly easy. However, it moves fast and no calculator is allowed (this is true for ALL calc sections). She gives fine lectures, but go to her office hours!! One on one time with Dr. Peterson really made a difference in my performance in the class.
Peterson is a fairly normal class, it is not too difficult nor is it easy. I took AP Calculus in high school and found myself to struggle with grading in this class due to each exam being about 4-10 questions long that is heavily theorem based. If you are more of a problem-solver, this class is not for you. No extra credit is given for this class.
DO NOT take Dr. Peterson. She is so disrespectful to her students and does not listen when she makes a mistake in class. When a student needed her to slow down she flat out answered no and continued with the lecture. She lets you know when you have a quiz TWO days before the quiz and the test dates are hard to find in the syllabus.
Dr. Peterson- the worst professor I've ever had. She is extremely rude to her students. If you did not take AP calc in high school this is not the class for you. She had stated that she does not care if her students learn because she has tenured. Tests do not reflect what was taught in class/assigned on the homework. She doesn't give extra credit.
Show up to the lectures and recitation, take notes, do the homework problems. If you do these you really shouldn't have a hard time when the tests come around. They usually say beforehand what's going to be on the test, so write that down and make sure you know that when you study. Do the homework too, it helps.
Her lectures are quite fast and really only consist of example work, not actual lecturing. Homework and quizzes are easy enough. She will occasionally be rude to students, so don't expect to have a great time in class. If you got Calculus experience, put in the work and you'll pass. If not, use resources like KhanAcademy.
Dont listen to these other reviews. Ive had her for 3 days and already hate her. She is rude, doesnt go over any problems in depth, teaches at 100 mph. If you arent a calculus God (why should you be this class is literally Calculus 1) she is terrible. DO NOT TAKE.
As far as math teachers go at Auburn, Dr. Peterson is relatively good, but that's not saying much. Go to class, do the homework/webassign, and make sure you understand the material before tests/quizzes. You'll have to reteach yourself when doing assignments, so I recommend The Organic Chemistry Teacher on youtube.
*AVOID THIS CLASS*This is the worst class Auburn has to offer. Dr. Peterson is somewhat nice but loves to give hard exams with calc 3 math without offering exam reviews. Her lectures consist of her doing random textbook problems faster than you can even write down. She snaps over minute things such as: sharing/bringing the wrong kind of calculator.
She goes really fast and instead of giving steps to solve problems she just starts doing problems. Quizzes are graded generously, and she gives many opportunities for 100s. Tests are hard. Don't take unless you did extremely well in calc 1.
Dr. Peterson made an extremely difficult course manageable. The exams were hard, but she set clear expectations and never surprised you. Grading is exam heavy, and theres no drop exam. Her lectures went fast, and could get confusing. However she is helpful in office hours, and I would recommend going to them. Would recommend over other professors.
Dr. Peterson has restored my faith in the math department. STATS 3600 is notoriously one of the most difficult math courses, but she made it manageable. Tests were fair and partial credit was plentiful. Very caring and funny. Be warned - you MUST ONLY use the approved calculator (she's savage on test day). One of my favorite math prof's though. A+.
She does not give a study guide to prepare for the exams. She will give you 15-20 problems to study and maybe 3 of them will look somewhat similar to the problems in exam. I thought she was being specific about the types of questions we will have for the final but boy was I wrong. The average for the exams were 68, 69, and 71. Ther's no curve
