took this class separate from the 3unit lecture class, made it a bit harder to understand some of the work. Homework was not real hard. she took the time to make sure you would understand the labs. She even stayed late to let you finish a test. She really wants to help students understand. Fun class. Definitely would take again. funny caring teacher
Easy class. Good instructor
Ms. Pitts is definitely a professor for the students! She does not want her students to fail so she does ALL she can to ensure you receive a passing grade. She started the semester off unprepared but she quickly progressed and made the class fun and interesting! She jokes around and makes class worth your while if you don't leave early! Enroll now!
Ms. Pitts is great. Don't be surprised if you cry laughing at least once during her class. She's very passionate about geography, and makes it interesting and fun. Don't expect an easy A, but expect to be graded fairly for what you put in to the class. Would definitely take again.
This was not a good class. Instead of listing everything wrong, here's some advice: Keep every assignment you can (if she doesn't lose it). Get ready to fight for your grade. Go into the class lighthearted and try to enjoy how high energy she is. Don't take her inappropriate comments seriously. Find a lab partner you can trust. Teach yourself.
She's very nice and funny but I don't think she realizes that she teaches a 1 unit class. This 1 unit class assigns more work than my 4 unit classes. I'm talking worksheets upon worksheets of work per session, and extremely in-depth tests. The workload in this class is tough, and it really doesn't seem worth it for just 1 unit. Steer clear.
Professor Pitts is a really good teacher. I've learned more from her than I have from my actual geography (non-lab) class. She usually lets class out 90 minutes early and you can either stay and work on the assigned labs with her or go home and do them. Theres also a bunch of E.C. Both the midterm and final are open notes, which is great.
Ms. Pitts is a very good teacher. Her tests are open note and she is a very entertaining lecturer - she's passionate about what she teaches. Initially you may be overwhelmed by the amount of homework she assigns (given it's a 1 unit class), but eventually you'll come to realize the assignments are easily completed in class.
She's very understanding with assignments and awesome in lectures. Working together alot and class goes by fast.
Lisa is by far one of the most amazing teachers to have. Very clear on lecture, homework and in class labs. I would definitely take her classes again.
Ms Pitts is an amazing instructor. If you are committed to the class, she is committed to you. If you want to short change the class and not be invested then you won't pass. I rarely had homework cause I would do it in class with her after everyone else left early. She is there till the end of every class to answer ques and help you.
Lisa is passionate about teaching & cares for her students. Gives a lot of work, but if you stay after lecture she will help you finish the work. She cares about her students grades & would often add a little extra credit. She is very clear about the material you need to know and is always ready to answer students questions. Tests are open notes.
Professor Pitts is passionate about geography and truly wants her students to understand and pass her class. The tests might seems overwhelming but she drops the lowest test score and offers a lot of extra credit. There is a total of 11 in-class quizzes but she doesn't announce the dates for them so make sure you go to class everyday.
I took her during the spring of all the covid crap it was originally in person then turned into zoom meeting. She was very understanding I personally had perfect attendance I enjoyed attending her zoom lessons. She made the class extremely exciting and now I want to travel even more and see things I studied. I strongly recommend taking her!
By far one of the coolest prof. I have taken. She is funny and teaches her students in ways that are better understood and does not bore you out of doing your work. I would definitely take her again. I also would recommend her to anyone needing a GEOG teacher.
Professor Pitts is one of the few awesome teachers at VVC. Class with her was very enjoyable even though it was 3 hour long classes. She's hilarious and is always wiling to help.
Professor Pitts is an amazing professor, I would strongly recommend for anyone searching for a geog class. Ive learned so much during this class, although it was taking during the pandemic and we had to do everything over zoom. Pitts is passionate about her work and understanding to all of her students.
Really enjoyed the class. Before the pandemic it was a very fun and vibrant classroom then we made the switch to zoom. Since the switch, professor Pitts has done an incredible job at keeping us informed and provided great teaching lessons to help us in the class throughout the pandemic. I would totally recommend taking her class.
Solid choice. The pandemic changed a lot of things but she kept up and made the class engaging and fun. Dont expect an easy A, her passionate personality shouldn't be mistaken for weakness. Overall, I recommend her if you need to take a class on weather.
Dont take her during the pandemic! The class was hard for 2 reasons. One is because she hides all the answers on tests so you cant go back and review what you missed. Two is because she doesnt give enough time on tests, one minute per question on most tests. This is a beginner class it shouldnt be hard. I passed with an A. Google wont help you!!!!!
Shes a fun professor who knows what its like to be a student; it shows in her grading. The tests do require a good amount of reading and note-taking. If you do every assignment, though, you should be fine. (:
At first this class was very overwhelming but we all worked together to make things work. We were able to do group work which made the class 100% easier (as long as you have a great group). Take notes and pay attention to the quizzes, only thing that killed me in the end. All in all fun class and Pitts is an awesome Professor.
I took Miss Pitts for both courses, GEOG 101 and with the lab as well. She gives out a lot of homework, but her course overall is awesome! I would take her class all over again because even though it was overwhelming, I had lots of fun and learned more than I imagined. She is an awesome professor.
She was all over the place when it came to assignments and grading
Worst class I've taken at VVC! So much work for a 1 credit class and a lack of clear grading criteria made it hard for everyone. Instead of assignment guidelines and examples, she held weekly zoom sessions where she rambles and makes things more confusing. She also teaches at 2-3 other colleges and is super unorganized. Avoid if you can!
Pitts is overall a kind and caring professor that tries hard and expects you to do the same. In my opinion, the work is so overwhelming that it makes grasping the concepts difficult because you don't have the time to stop to really understand any of them. Find a good study group and reach out to her as much as you can.
Worst class I have ever taken here at VVC this professor is very unorganized and assigns WAY TOO MUCH homework its very overwhelming avoid this professor if you can all quizzes and tests are timed and its not enough
Im going to be completely honest when I started class I was ready drop the course. I was very overwhelmed with the work. Im so happy that I stayed. Lisa is amazing and very caring she truly cares about her students. I recommend attending the live labs they are fun and she goes over our assignments with us. Stick to it and dont give up!
Professor Pitts is kind & fun. I'm not a sciency or math type of person but she's able to make it manageable. If you need help she will make time & give you that extra help. There can be a grip of work to do but it is totally doable. I recommend taking her for your lab. She answers emails fast & communicates with students. Extra Credit Available
Great Prof to have. If you're stuck- just send an email, she'll make time just for you if you ask. Extra Credit is there if you need it. Honestly, just don't wait till the last minute to do assignments and you'll do great. The low scores seen here are people who didn't put in the effort and got overwhelmed from not doing what they're supposed to
Professor Pitts is very kind and you can tell she is very passionate about Geography! If you are struggling with a particular assignment, you just need to communicate and reach out to her and she can help walk you through and is very accommodating. There are group projects, you definitely need to watch the lectures, and there is a lot of homework.
So. Much. Homework. This is a one credit class and I felt like I was taking a 4 credit class. However, Professor Pitts is very kind, and you can tell she gets very excited about geography. She is also very accommodating of her time, if you are struggling in class, you just have to reach out to her. She also offers extra credit as well.
There can be a good amount of assignments both easy and difficult. Professor Pitts is amazing with humor and has creative lectures that are not mandatory. She will help you the best she can and will reopen assignments to give you a chance to get a better grade.
Professor Pitts has a great sense of humor and is very versatile in your needs of a professor. Im appreciative or the workload and the help she gives, when you attend the lectures pay attention because she does go over assignments. I do believe she would she would be a better professor if able to take in person rather than online,
Professor Pitts was a good teacher. She had easy assignments and was clear on them as well. Ive come to the conclusion that earth stuff just does not stick to me, but I did learn a few things in this class. The only downfall was that I was scared of communication because I felt I wouldnt get an answer back from her. But overall was a good time.
Great teacher but a lot of assignments.
Professor Lisa was very helpful throughout the semester. She went over the labs with us and was very clear and helpful. She uploaded her videos of the lectures and that really helped because I was able to pause and work through the lab at my own paste. Overall I enjoyed her class and would take her again.
Hello, I overall thought it was a very intense class. I feel that COVID did hurt the human interaction part. I felt overall that it was a lot of work for a one credit class but then again I chose to complete all the assignments because I wanted to ensure I had a passing grade. I would applaud you for being lenient on late assignments as well as
I really wish the assignments weren't so long; as a stay-at-home mom, I was unable to finish many of the extremely long HW. I tried so hard to get a decent grade in this class, but man, was it hard! I think assignments that are not overwhelmingly long would be best not to have in this class, especially for people with not much time to work with.
Time consuming assignments but not very hard
Lots of assignments
This professor gives out way too many assignments the course work is super heavy I struggled to get so many of them done it is way too much
I would have dropped this class a long time ago if I didnt need it, this is a one credit class yet this professor assigns an immense amount of homework it is too much to do, it is very overwhelming, too much homework a lot of my classmates struggled very much as well
Ms Pitts seems like a caring person who is trying her best and when she does have lectures on a subject I tend to do a lot better. I will say that COVID has been a difficult situation so everything was tough. It takes a long time for a response back and there is a lot of homework and quizzes. This was my hardest class even though it was 1 credit.
Professor Lisa was a good teacher. She does give a lot of homework but its nothing thats not doable. I was ready to drop the class in the beginning but I found a way to cope with the class and homework . You just need to do your homework on time so you dont feel like its a lot when youre doing it the day thats its due.
Professor Pitts is a caring, enthusiastic, and passionate professor which makes her so great. Ready to help you at any time and even offers extra credit. However the one complaint is way to much assignments. Pitts does give a week of time to complete it but that's not mentioning the other classes you have to worry about. 2 final tests in 1 week???
She assigned a lot of assignments which are due on the same day which is not ideal. However, she does go through all assignments in her lecture, which makes it easier to complete them. Her examines are difficult but she does grade on a curve which is nice.
There is plenty of work to do: labs, reports, discussions and quizzes. She is however a fair grader, as long as you attempt the work you will get a good grade. Usually quick to respond to emails. Make sure to keep on top of the lectures/video meetings or you will miss alot.
Not gonna lie, I was expecting less work for a 1 unit class but this class has the work load of a normal class (3+ units). Sometimes resources weren't provided on Canvas (like videos,articles,walk-throughs) so it was difficult to understand certain topics. Overall, Professor Pitts is very passionate about Geography and cares for her students :)
Lisa Pitts is a good teacher. She reaches out to her students who are struggling and she gives out a lot of extra credit opportunities. She also tutors students in need of it. However, I only recommend that you take this class if it is the only class your taking or if you are only taking a few since this class requires a lot of homework.
Professor Pitts is overall a really good professor. You can tell that she cares about you receiving a good grade in her class. Her lecture videos are really helpful, however sometimes it got overwhelming with the amount of work that we had to do. Honestly as long as you stay focused and complete all of the work, you should receive a good grade.
There are a lot of assignments due at the same time along with quizzes. I wouldnt take this class if you are taking other classes at the time because the work load is heavy. However she is really understanding and is a great teacher.
Not a good teacher. Assignments make no since at all. She makes college just suck. I do not recommend taking her class at all. A lot of homework. Gives terrible feedback, and sometimes makes you feel bad about your self. I have never been this stressed before.
2 midterms and 10 assignments due in one week. Not learning anything because there are usually 8-9 assignments assigned that have no relation to each other. 10/10 would never recommend.
She is awesome. There IS lots of assignments but you really just need to manage your time. Every assignment helped me to better understand the material. As long as you do the work & dedicate yourself to your studies AS YOU SHOULD and not be expecting an easy credit handout, you should be fine. Assignments are literally open all week to get done.
Professor Pitts is one of the most amazing professors you will ever have. I highly recommend her for any of your geography courses. Very intelligent and lovely to talk to. The textbook and everything you need is online. Go to their office hours and lectures. Absolutely amazing to talk to, and assignments are very clear. Just keep up with assignment
Professor Pitts is absolutely amazing! I highly recommend her for all of your geography courses. Very intelligent and lovely to talk to. The textbook and everything you need is online and in Canvas. Go to their office hours and lectures. Absolutely amazing to talk to, and assignments are very clear. Just keep up with assignments and ask for help.
Professor Pitts GEOG101 online is very organized and easy to navigate. However, if you are a busy person, maybe don't take with GEOG101L, it becomes a lot sometimes (but that's not on her). Just follow the instructions, watch the videos, and read the chapters and you can pass. The group project is a little nerve-racking waiting for the others.
Lab 101 there was confusion on some assignments because she did not elaborate enough on them. There were quizzes where questions would be different from her lectures and assignments. Tests were not given enough time. Her class requires a lot of time so make sure you put the time in for it. She understands and is kind when it comes to late work.
Professor Pitts was awesome! The course work was difficult at times, but I'm not a science major. Any issues I had with understanding the material were quickly cleared up during office hours and lectures. She gives fun interactive assignments. She is very accessible via email and will always make time to help you gain better understanding.
I took both her normal course and lab. For only 1 credit, the lab was way more difficult and work-heavy compared to her other class. She wasn't available most of the time to help with topics we're learning about that was confusing to understand, which most of them were on her quizzes. Out of all the courses I took this semester, this one was a lot.
I took Professor Pitts online for my Fall semester, including her lab class. In my opinion, I would not take two of the courses at the same time because there was lots of reading and many pages of assignments to do regardless of which class you're taking. Her normal geology class was fairly okay; it was mostly just lots of reading and notes.
Assignment are easy but doesn't answer to emails quickly.
GEOG 101L is a time-intensive course when you are taking it at the same time as GEOG 101. I suggest taking them during separate semesters. But the course was great, well organized, and Prof Pitts is easy to get in touch with. Keep an eye on deadlines and watch available lectures for labs.
I found this class to be the most stressful for the amount of work and no leading lecture/instructions. When it came down to quizzes they were completely differnt from what we learned in the labs and had subjects/questions that were not further explained or even given on the worksheets.
LOVED HER AS MY PROFESSOR
YouTube will be your best friend. Don't bother, didn't learn much for the amount of work I did.
Professor Pitts is the most amazing professor you will ever have. For lab, the assignments are there to help, not as mandatory grades. Responds fast to emails and great to talk to. If you're ever stuck, reach out for help. She cares about all of her students and makes sure to be the best teacher ever. I highly recommend her for all of your courses.
Its a pretty hard class but if you do most of the work you should stay at around 70 or higher
Professor Pitts is one of the greatest professors that I have come across, she is super sweet and does everything she can for her students. I will miss her humor and her witty answers when a student would ask a question. I appreciate her and everything that she has taught me these last 16 weeks. I recommend taking her class
Professor Pitts is a super amazing professor who is down to Earth and cares a lot about her students. She makes the class fun and easy especially if you do your work. She gets to know each of her students and does everything that she can to help them. If you are looking for a great class, then this one is for you.
Going into this class, I set my expectations very low and didn't expect much from the class. Each class, Professor Pitts broke my expectations and made me excited to come to class. When I did miss, I was sad and wondered what her lecture was like. Her high energy and kind spirit made class enjoyable. Take her class, you won't regret it. I'llmissit
Professor Pitts is a good professor. The class is very simple. Do your work, and you will pass. You have weekly quizzes, and they are not that hard. She also provides a textbook for you, and the quizzes are based on it. So, study the chapter, and the quizzes would cover it. Overall, the class is very easy, if you do the work.
Prof. Pitts made learning fun and helped clarify any confusion with any questions and was really funny and enjoyed being in her class :)
Overall, really funny and able to keep the atmosphere fun and positive. She encourages you to not take yourself so seriously sometimes. :)
Would take again and do more work than I chose to do, but a great and personable professor.
Lisa Pitts is a great teacher. Everything in her class is clear. If you do the work there is no reason for you not to pass.
She is the best geology teacher that I had taken at VVC. She is really hilarious with her humor and has amazing jokes that are funny if you understand them. She is really caring about you passing the class and encourages you to ask for help if you need to find the answer.
professor Pitts is attentive to her students she will spare time to help you understand the curriculum! she mad learning fun for me in the class , I had her for GEOGLAB101
Professor is an amazing professor. Her out of this world personality and her hands on approach presents a welcoming environment in a subject that can be sometimes boring. I am a full time worker in addition to being a student. If I can be in her class all day, I would. She truly is amazing. You'll love her.
Ms. Pitts professional abilities are good and her ability to convey materials are ok.
Out of every professor that I was taught in this college, She is very straightforward and easier to adapt to in terms of learning style. I would recommend you all to take this with her if you do get the chance.
Professor Pitts, is an overall great professor. I have learned a lot during her class, however there is a lot of homework. She is very understanding and not a tough grader. There are chances to get extra credit opportunities. I would definitely recommend her class.
I really liked this professor she was funny and respectable. Only thing I would comment on would be the grading system. She would drop certain assignment which I didn't see or understand the pattern of it. However, she was responsive and was willing to answer any questions with a smile. Would recommend.
Hard professor, most ratings are fabricated since there is an assignment to do rate my professor. Took over summer, rather difficult. The tests are difficult and don't really learn what is on it. Test at end lowered grade from A+ to A-. Take at your own risk. The professor is nice though but assignments are difficult to understand.
Class was super hard. Not worth taking and too much work that was so unnecessary.
Do not recommend and would not take again.
The worst professor ever!
I would not take her class because group projects are so not fair at all. Fabricated reviews and ratings!
The class was honestly frustrating for me. I took her class & it was super difficult to begin with. There were a lot of exams, quizzes, & tests that I needed to complete. Honestly, being in her class made me considered committing suicide. For me, as a student in her class right now, it was really stressful & gave me depression
Harsh and challenging.
i would not take her
Waste of my time.
Professor Pitts is an engaging and understanding instructor. The material can be challenging, but with a little effort (and tools like Unstuck ai) you can succeed. The grading is fair, and she's always willing to help. Overall, a rewarding class.
There was a lot of quizzes and discussion posts every week, granted I took a 6 week summer course. Grading and expectations were well described and Professor Pitts is passionate about the subject so her lectures and knowledge were great.
