good professor
I loved her! She was very sweet and great professor. EXPLAIN CLEARLY and BEST! I will miss her! She was very helpful!!
GREAT PROFESSOR!
Horrible Professor! I highly do not reccomend her. You can ask questions during the tests and she will help but she has to because she does not teach well at all. She is all over the place! In our 1hour 15min class we go over two problems because she takes so long explaning.
Watching her "teach" is like watching a squirrel in the road. You have no idea where it's going to go, and once she gets there, you wonder where she's at. Completely random in teaching style- don't take this teacher's classes unless you really have a handle on math, or you will be totally lost.
this professors teaching skills are terrible. she rambles about her family. she doesn't doesn't explain the work well. i wish i would have never taken her class. i should have waited until i found a better instuctor.
I found the professor very helpfull and also concerned about everyones undertanding. She is a good teacher but you have to pay attention and ask questions if you do not understand something. She can not learn for you.
i think this teacher was the bomb diggidy! she has helped me now 12 years and she is the best teacher in the world i dont know what u guys r saying about her i think she great! i luv her soooo much! i learned alot in her class! i wish she could be m,y professor for ever she would be beast at everything!!!!
i luved her she was awesome at everything i learned alot u should have her she rocked!
Loved this professor. She truly cares about her students and their ability to understand the material. She is clear on expectations. She allows you to stay after to complete an exam. She lectured the entire 2+ hrs, but that really helped (at least for me). She can go off on tangents, but it isn't too bad. I would definitely recommend her.
Awesome teacher. Really wants everyone to do good and pass her class. Helps you with anything you have questions. Very nice. I'm horrible at any algebra and got an A in her class. Definitely recommend.
she was amazing. very helpful, and definately passionate about her students! i failed the first test, not because of her teaching but because of not studying, the next test i recieved an A and she noticed and was so happy handing my test to me! i recieved a B in her class. amazing teacher def recommend her!!!!!
Excellent teacher, concern, dedicated, motivational. I took two classes with her. She is easy to understand, great personality. One of my best teachers ever.
She is by far the sweetest teacher I ever had. LOVED her and plan on taking more classes with her. I am good at math and she worked with me letting me off on some of the superfluous work she assigned for students who needed it. USE HER TEST STUDY GUIDES and you will get As on the tests. attendance not mandatory. Honestly, you can't fail.
Took her for college algebra. I recommend not taking her only because if you're not that good at math, she will confuse you. She'll finish a problem on the board, realize she messed up and redo it. This happened too many times..
Ms Potchen told us in class that he daughter wrote on here, so the really nice comments are from her. I like Potchen shes very helpful and will never give up on you but she can be confusing sometimes. If math is extremely important for your major then probably dont take her but if you need to take math and this is a good time slot take it shes fine
She's probably the sweetest lady you'll ever meet. Very nice, very helpful, and very understanding. I'm good at math so I didn't have a problem with her. But if you're not a math person she could be a bit confusing. However, that could be in part because this was her first time teaching stats in 14 years. All in all, I got an A and would recommend!
Potchen is a very sweet person, she is very helpful and very patient. The only flaw she seems to have is that she can be kind of confusing at times, she will mention a method of doing math and then not cover it, or mess up on problems and not notice. This is mainly due to lack of experience I believe, overall she is a wonderful professor :)
She's very nice, but not the greatest professor. She's confusing when explaining things. I often got annoyed with her because she tries to be a perfectionist and it's irritating, plus she makes a lot of mistakes. If you're good at math, you should be fine with her but if not, I recommend someone else.
She is nice, but she tends to use videos and the textbook a lot and doesn't really teach. You seriously have to read the book and teach yourself.
This professor is really sweet and helpful. At times, she goes out of her way to make sure the students understand the concept. For example, before a test she does Saturday sessions. The subject is hard and rather boring, but she makes it interesting. Take her if you want to learn :)
I have taken her for two courses( Col.Alg, and Stats) and I am very glad I did. She is a caring Prof. . In class, she is thorough and clear with her instructions/lectures. She is always available, office hours, spa, and after classes. She conducts study sessions before exames on Saurtdays as well. I strongly recommend you take her classes.
She's a really helpful teacher, take my advice and write her notes word for word and participate in class. As long as you do that you are almost guaranteed an A in the class. She is always willing to help her students, her projects and quizzes are a huge grade boosters and easy A's if you do the homework.
Like the other comments, she's nice, but don't really teach you you, more of a copy this, read this, do this professor. You really have to teach yourself which require extra EXTRA time outside the class... Simply, if you're not a math head take another.
She's a very sweet lady but teaching wise even if you turn your head for a minute you would be completely lost and sometimes she doesnt answer your question directly, she usually just re-explains the problem. If you have a hard time with math dont take her, find one that breaks it down WELL.
She's very sweet and tries to be as helpful as she can, but only take her if you consider yourself good at math. She can be confusing if you don't know what you're doing.
She is very nice! I goto UCF normally and this class is ridiculously easy compared to math classes there. She isn't always the best at explaining but if you ask she will answer. I got an A without a sweat. I would recommend her to everyone. DO the work and you will be fine.
Professor Potchen is a very nice lady. She wants everyone to enjoy math like she does. She tries to make everyone understand, and breaks everything down as much as she can. Homework is on webassign online and is very easy. She is easy to approach with a question and makes you comfortable to ask in class too! I recommend her if you are ok with math.
Professor Potchen is such a nice lady. She will help you with anything you are struggling on. She likes when people interact and care about math as much as she does. I never used the textbook because she uses WEBASSIGN a website where you can access the book and do the homework assignments that were given to you. She is a great teacher.
I think she is wonderful!! I hate math and was very much dreading this class but she is so incredibly helpful. You have absolutely no excuse for not getting enough help as she is infinitely available and approachable!!!
Mrs. Potchen is an AMAZING professor. She’s so sweet and helpful! I failed Intermediate Algebra my first time taking it, but when I took it with her, I improved a lot and passed the class! I RECOMMEND ANYONE WHO ISN’T GREAT AT MATH TO TAKE HER! YOU WON’T REGRET IT!
She is wonderful!!!!! There is never an excuse to not get help as she is infinitely available. I was dreading math but she made it seem so easy!!!
EXTREMELY confusing!! I would not recommend her if you are trying to get out of math. She won't let you use calculators. I had to retake her until I came to seminole to find out they let us use calculators AND there is NO EXIT exam. Potchen relies on the "modules" for us to learn which don't prepare you final! She thinks we all want to be engineers
This class is simple if you come to class, take notes, and do the HW, study for the tests(basically be an actual college student). Professor Potchen is always willing to help with any problem you have. There is 4 tests and a final that is cumulative. Professor Potchen holds study sessions before each test so you can ay last minute questions.
Fast teacher, goes at a pretty fast pace. Pretty much went to the SPA to learn everything again, could barely do the homework without assistance. She's one of the nicest professors I've ever had though.
Lisa, took me in to her class part of the way into the semester when I wasnt doing so well with another professor. I went from not passing to a B in her class. Granted I did have to spend a few hours each day in the SPA. You need to show up and do your part. I took her again the next semester for MAC1033 as well.
She will work with you, but you need to do your part. I did have to spend a few hours each day in the SPA. I got a B in here class
Mrs. Potchen is by far THE BEST teacher I have ever had. She loves to teach and is always wiling to help. You can call her text her and she will answer her emails and phone calls and text messages. She is very helpful, especially after class. If you do your part as a student you will pass. She makes math fun and funny. She breaks it down.
I'm someone who isn't good at math but Professor Potchen helped me pass through the semester. She is available every time you need her, you can text or call and her lectures are very easy to understand. She is a great math professor and I recommend this class if math is a weak subject for you.
Loved taking this class! She is very nice and helpful! Always willing to help out!
Professor Potchen is BY FAR the best teacher I've EVER taken! :) I've never bothered to create a rating for a professor, but for her, I absolutely had to! She is always willing to help out any student and honestly, she is such an inspirational teacher to have! I would take her again if I could! More teachers need to be like her!!!
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS AT ALL ! the teacher seemed like she wanted to be friends with everyone when your only there to do your work and go. I told her in the middle of the semester i was having issues and she never helped. for the test other class mates would ask questions and she would clarify what they needed to do but everytime i asked she didnt
Great teacher! Super easy class! Tests are easy and she's really helpful! Would definitely take again!
Professor Potchen is AMAZING! She really cares about her students and teaches very well. For your final, you can retake a test that you had a bad grade :)! She is very clear and very kind. If you show you are interested, she will remember you and help you with everything you need. No textbook required. I would certainly take her again! Amazing!
BEST MATH PROFESSOR EVER !!! she is super sweet and cares about her students. She gives feedback in anything you struggle with and always makes time for her students. She makes math fun and is super nice, explains in good detail and is very specific. I passed with an A, there is HW everyday but it helps to prepare for tests.
Great teacher, obviously you still have to understand the material and study but she is a lenient grader and is always willing to help. No required homework but the questions she gives as examples are very similar to test questions. Her quizzes are simple and sometimes she offers take home ones.
Sweetest, most caring teacher I've ever had. She will go above and beyond for her students. Lectures were easy to understand & she's just all sorts of awesome. I'll miss you forever Mrs. Potchen.
Though she is very sweet & nice, she gets irritated easily with students discussing math problems among each other. Assumes everyone understands the material & rants way too much about random topics, becoming a distraction to those trying to understand what she's explaining. She's scatter brained & does NOT post any grades on blackboard.
Professor Potchen is always available to help students via email, or meeting in the tutoring center. If you have a problem she is fairly reasonable about finding a fair solution.
I loved this professor. Although we were always a bit behind she truly cares, explains well, and doesn't have a million tests. She does give a lot of hw but it's for our benefit. Super sweet and you can tell she loves math. Talks a bit too much but I learned and enjoyed her class.
easy class. Very nice proffessor but she teaches too fast sometimes. Also does not put any grades in until after semester which sucks, does not have syllabus posted online to look back at. Very understanding professor
She is super nice and willing to to help anyone out when needed. She holds review sessions before the tests if the class wants to do so. She didn't make attendance mandatory but if you skip class its more then likely you won't pass. You can buy the textbook but its also online with the hw but taking good notes and you won't even touch it.
Professor Potchen is kind and passionate about math. She wants you to ask questions so you succeed. She truly cares. Communicate with her! She responded to all of my emails. Lisa gave one take home test and the rest are short & in class. There is a lot of homework but it's useful. The program she uses is great. She's chatty, but I didn't mind.
Professor Potchen is one of the best professor's I've ever taken for math. She truly cares and wants you to succeed. She talks a lot and gets off topic but she is hilarious. Easy A if you do the homework.
Professor Potchen is one of the most caring and tentative teachers I have encountered. She is an amazing communicator and wants the best for her students. Lectures are very informative so its important you attend class. Pearson has done a good job outlining this course but you will still need her assistance which she will always there to help.
Took this professor for mat 0028c and have to say she is amazing but she does sidetrack a little and jumps off topic from time to time. Did a lot my my learning in the spa and with here one on one she does care and she is willing to help you if you ask for it I would recommend he to anyone she loves to help and makes sure you succeed.
she's sweet but cant teach, TAKE SOMEONE ELSE.
Professor Potchen was amazing homework was easy the tests were just like the study guides. I did the study plans as well. I got an A in the class. Just review the material and come to class. Drops lowest test grade and replaces it with the final, and is willing to do anything to help her students.
She's awesome because she's one of the few professors that truly care if you're understanding the material and will go out of her way to help you. If you're not great at algebra she offers out-of-class help in the MathSpa, which really helped me in this class.
All of the coursework is online but you have to do it in class. She is a nice lady but the class is wack you basically have to teach yourself.
She's very sweet and will work over a problem until you get it, the homework is due online (pearson) and the inputs can be a bit troubling.
Professor Potchen is nice and knows what she's doing, but can get easily distracted and keep class from moving forward. She is helpful for people that aren't that good at math because she over-explains most of the time. She is always available outside of class to help if needed, whether on the phone, email, office hours, or in the SPA.
If you are not good at math turn the other way!! Shes really sweet dont get me wrong but honestly shes not the best at teaching. She assumes you know everything and your on your own most of the time.
She has been the best professor that I ever had. She is very caring with her students, funny, gives a lot of extra credit and usual amount of tests. I took this class blended and I passed with an A and B. Also, she explains really well the material and very clear. Finally she is amazing, take her you will not regret this opportunity of learning.
Nicest little lady in the whole world. Her class is honestly super easy. She does give a fair bit of homework but it all prepares you for the tests in there. She is really caring and only wants her students to succeed. Her class is a little slow paced and can get somewhat boring if you already know the material.
She is a very kind person, one of the best things I found that helped me with the course were the times she individually came up to us to see how we were doing on a problem she wrote on the board. She is very sweet and is very responsive.
Professor Potchen is a nice lady but a horrible math teacher. She is way too fast paced and gives alot of work. She also gets distracted really easily especially during lecture. Her tests are super hard and very long. If you are bad at math do not take her.
really great teacher, even though she gives alot of homework they account for a percentage of your grade and they prepare you for her tests
There is no way to tell your grade through the whole semester you only see your homework grade. She slick out the mouth and annoying. On test if you dont do it how she wants you to do it she takes points off. Im a Hard working student and got a C
Mrs. Potchen was an amazing professor. She always made things clear for me, and helped me out in any way that she could. She is very sweet and caring about her students which I love.
She waits till the last minute to input grades. She gets sidetracked when going over the topic. She takes points off from everything when taking a test.
well she is a very great lecturer but homework is given from each class, but the good thing is the hommeworks help to prepare you for finals
do yourself a favor and don't take her. there are better math professors. she's not bad but not good either. you'll have to learn by yourself if you want to do good on this class and her test are really long and she takes off points for every detail. Just trying to save you a bad time. Wish I knew this earlier.
not the best professor!! Her tests are worth 60% of the grade and final is only 15% she is really picky on how she grades because she will take points off of every detail or what you dont use according to her wants. Her tests are super wordy. There are other better professors out there. Dont waste your time!
This was my first time taking a math class at Valencia being a DE student and her instructions were very clear. She gives plenty of resources to study from and various videos to get good examples from and great notes. Over all an amazing professor.
great professor caring and will make sure you get the grade you deserve work hard and you can get an A
Professor Lisa is an okay professor. she is a very picky grader, and if you do not do it her way she takes off a lot points. she is a wonderful sweet lady but she is very tuff and disorganized . she does reply back and she is definitely there to help you.
I took Professor Potchen for intermediate math in the Spring of 2020. She taught the class flawlessly. She was very detailed in how she taught, she went over lots of examples, and loved answering questions. If you are taking her, and you put the work in, you will pass. She has excellent resources too.I am taking her again in my future math classes.
Very nice teacher however her class is structured horribly. You are supposed to upload your work by hand and will take points off for every little mistake you make even if you got the correct answer.
This class was quite confusing in the beginning. For weekly assignments you either print your assignments or hand write them and upload them. It is time consuming, but I got it done for my grade. The care coaches provide tutoring through zoom calls every week which is extremely helpful. It took me time to get my grade up in this class.
There's around 2 homework assignment's a week and a quiz and, test every 2 chapters. If you go to the care coach sessions and class she offers extra credit. If you skip class, you'll miss a lot of info. She responds to texts and emails quick. It's an easy A if you go to class and pay attention. She really cares for her students. Take her!!
Prof Lisa is very caring and wants you to succeed. However it was a difficult course. I took trig online and I just dont think online for this prof is up to par. She is accessible outside of class and gives extra credit. However I found the videos posted in place of lecture to not give me enough info on how to study. Take her but in person!
There are so many tutors for this class and the professor is very nice and helpful. Assignments and most quizzes through Edfinity. Edfinity needs work but gives you multiple attempts. I learned a lot and her teaching style helped me retain the information. Only bad thing was the regular participation points where you get points for asking questions
Professor Potchen is amazing! She gives easy assignments, about 4 a week, 3 big exams throughout the semester and 1 final test. Her work is very easy and any question you have she responds fast and helps you through any work! 10/10 would take again and I would recommend to anyone that likes an easy class with a sweet teacher. You won't regret!
very unorganized in and out of class. don't take her if you aren't already a math whiz cause she teaches from premade problems in her notes. no additional teaching/explaining/etc... Prof are mad that students use online resources, newsflash, we only do that when we aren't learning from you!
She's a VERY tough grader on test, teaches at a fast pace and can be confusing sometimes. Her class isn't bad you just have to put in a lot of effort to pass, definitely take advantage of the tutors it pays off in the end. She's very helpful, caring and understanding. She try's her best to make sure her students succeed.
She is a very nice professor, but teaches quickly and it's a lot to try and keep up with if math isn't your strong suit. She will stop and explain if you ask. Otherwise, very good and caring professor who wants you to succeed. She is quite to respond to students who message her and her office hours are very accommodating.
I really recommend taking her, she's very accommodating and understanding if anything unexpected pops up in your life. She offers lots of math help on zoom and off campus. She posts exam reviews a few days before the actual exam and they have the same format as the exam to help you study better. Def recommend taking her for any math class.
Professor Potchen is a very caring and understanding professor. She responds quickly to emails/texts and her assignments are doable. Only 2 exams + final. I took her class online and it was easy! :)
Overall a great professor! There is a textbook she provides but the videos were enough for me. There isn't heavy homework just casual assignments (2-3 exercises a week) and only extra when there is a final, quiz, or mid term coming up. She has a lot of zoom meetings for additional help but I never joined one. 10% off your grade when late.
Professor Potchen is very nice and caring. She cares about you passing her class. She gives extra credit to add to every test. She gives lots of homework but it's easy to complete. Her class involves a lot of note-taking and labs are mandatory and graded on attendance. Absolutely loved her class and how she teaches the material.
She is a fair grader, and for some discussions, she even offers extra credit opportunities. While the lessons require a lot of reading, the class remains manageable if you stay engaged. Both the midterm and final are proctored through Honor Lock, but they are only 20 questions long and often mirror the practice test.
