Quite possibly the worst teacher ever. If you are in her class, get out immediately and save your grade! Going to class is pointless other than the fact that you aren't allowed to miss more than 3 classes. She grades extremely and unnecessarily hard, when I knew some of my other friends got easy As in their 1102 classes.
Ms. Reeves is very nice but she is a rather tough grader. I would not recommend taking her class. She assigns readings quite often and gives quizzes on basically all of them. While she does offer help if you ask, she is extremely picky in what she counts off on papers. The things she asks for are not very clear at times as well.
I felt like I didn't learn a single thing in this class. What we did in class never had anything to do with our LONG papers, and she's a really hard grader. She assigns little readings and then quizzes over them then she talks about them the entire class period. Going to class is useless, but it's mandatory.
Very unclear about everything and gives rude commentary on papers. I do not recommend.
Professor Reeves can be a bit unexciting, and her lectures are often long-winded and vague. However, she does make her assignments' parameters clear and grades fairly, in my experience. A decent professor overall.
Hardest grader I've ever had for an English class. She's a "doctor" of English if that tells you anything. She's nice, but her classes are meaningless but mandatory. If you're stuck with her than good luck passing.
I lost all motivation after having her as my ENGL1102 professor. She is very picky on what she wants in the paper and even if you show improvement in your writing, she continues to give you terrible grades with rude commentaries. She talks about useless things during class and threatens to drop you from class if you have more than 3 absences.
I used to think my writing was fairly decent. Not so, after taking this class. For a "multicultural english class," we sure didn't learn about a lot of cultures. Her writing criteria is picky and unclear, and she usually unavailable outside of class.
Class is extremely boring. She grades unnecessarily hard. If I could rate her 0/5 I would.
Her reading quizzes were easy if you read the material, the essay instructions are fairly straightforward, the portfolio can be difficult if you fall behind. She grades fairly strictly on the essays but you get to rewrite two of them for a new grade.
You don't learn much. She doesn't make you participate in class discussions. She offers sample essays with grades to give you an idea of what an A and F paper would look like. I thought she was very specific about what she wanted. There are only three essays and then a portfolio. Not great, but not the worst teacher I have had.
Most class time is spent going over the assigned reading. Its tedious and boring because her level discussion is sub-highschool frankly. Yet, she is very specific and harsh when grading papers. She honestly comes across as someone who doesn't know what they are talking about. Stay away if you are not up to a challenging, yet boring class.
DO NOT attempt to write in your own voice; Professor Reeves is an impossibly tough grader and only respects styles which she's pre-determined. Not a ton of work, but you will sweat for a B and missing more than three lectures gets you dropped from the class. Lectures consist of her rambling over the readings with the very rare chance for discussion
Do not take Lisa Reeves. She makes it clear that she does not care about her students, she spends the whole class talking about nothing, and she grades unnecessarily harsh. Although the assignments themselves aren't difficult, she makes it almost impossible to do well.
Would I take her again? Probably not. But, if shes your only option its not that bad. Her papers are the best part because the word counts are low and research is only required for one. Her daily quizzes off of readings are annoying but arent hard. Ive heard of people with no quizzes but harder and more lengthy essays.
Dr. Reeves spends class time going on opinionated tangents that have little to do with readings assigned. The readings have nothing to do with the essays assigned as well. She also grades these essays unusually harsh, taking off for subjective criteria. Instructions are made very unclear and she sends many emails often changing them on the due date
There are 3 essays. She grades super hard on all of them and then many people suspected that she did not grade their rewrite for the papers. She is the worst professor to take for English, I recommend taking the class somewhere else if she is your only option.
I would give it a 0/5. She rambles constantly and deducts major points for minor problems. The worst class Ive ever had even when compared to calculus or O chem.
Worked harder in this class than chemistry, biology and nutrition, unfair grader, took months to grade papers
Do not take her! This class should be fairly easy but she makes it difficult. Mostly everyone got a B but this should be a gpa booster. She is unnecessarily hard in grading. She does offer extra credit but it doesn't help in the slightest. Take anyone else but her!
Reeves is one of the most unnecessarily hard graders I have ever experienced in my entire life. I ended up withdrawing because I didn't want my GPA to drop before applying to PA school. This class should be an easy A, but she makes it almost impossible.
Super tough grader, only likes what she likes and is not open to any new ideas. Good luck trying to conform to her expectations when you have no clue what she wants! Attendance is also mandatory, miss 3 times and you're removed. Only good thing is easy quizzes and lots of extra credit opportunities
Dr. Reeves is very funny and very knowledgeable. I always struggled writing papers so I have to put effort into my papers... and I'm doing great in the class. Lots of reading and dumb easy quizzes. Prompts for papers are super straight forward, but she is very blunt when she grades (EMAIL HER AND SHE IS CLUTCH). All in all, easy class, just try.
Dr. Reeves is entertaining and really understands the material she is teaching. There are three essays, and I think those essays are graded pretty fairly. As long as you're writing on an age appropriate, college level, an A is not hard to get in this class. Additionally, there are short quizzes almost every day, and those are a major grade-booster.
She was the hardest grader I have ever come across. I used to be confident in my writing but now I never want to write again. She will tear you down and make you think you're the worst writer in the world. Also, she is very unclear on what she wants and thinks her writing style is the only writing style. Do not take her, worst class at Georgia.
Decent teacher, tough grader. She gives quizzes every class which are easy if you do the reading. However, their are several essays that are hard to do well in unless she likes your style.
I worked very hard in this class and devoted so much time to it and still wasn't able to succeed. Dr. Reeves is an unnecessarily difficult grader and leaves comments on your work that extremely demeaning and often times, inaccurate. Her grading style is way more critical than constructive. She is easily accessible, but her emails tend to be rude.
Reeves is very smart and passionate about what she teaches. However, she is an unnecessarily hard grader and tends to be extremely passive aggressive. She is a nice lady and emailing her with questions/ any communication is helpful but at the end of the day, I was really disappointed.
We have quizzes every class on readings. Her class lectures are explanations of readings or poems and are extremely boring and rarely anyone is engaged in the discussion. She grades very tough and her feedback is not constructive, but rather very rude. Her directions on most assignments are very confusing and tedious.
I have to admit, when I saw this rating, I was scared, but it's really not that bad. You have plenty of reading quizzes with extra credit questions and she offers other extra credit opportunities. Emailing always helps for clarification. There are 3 papers that are graded depending on her opinion, but you have the chance to rewrite 2 of them.
She grades papers ridiculously hard, her lectures are long and boring, and she makes you put in twice the amount of work that any other ENGL1102 prof makes you do. I had more fun sitting in chem lecture than listening to her rambling
I really thought this class was going to be chill because she seemed really relaxed about a lot of things. But she ended up being a supppeerrrr harsh grader and tore apart my essays. Also, if you miss a peer edit, it's automatically 5 points off of your grade. And, lectures tend to be kind of draining and class participation isn't encouraged....
English has always been my best subject. I had taken AP english courses, yet Prof Reeves seemed to think that my writing never was good enough. She wanted lots and lots of long quotes in papers and graded them incredibly harshly in regards with her own opinions sometimes. A very nice lady but not my favorite teacher.
I had to work for my A, but I learned a lot. My 1101 instructor was easier, yes, but with almost no feedback on my papers and I had an easy A. Sure, if you want to glide through college with your high school attitude, go for it, but if you want to challenge yourself, take a more diffiult teacher like Reeves.
Shes hilarious because shes so hysterical about politics. In an English class!
Mrs. Reeves is a very nice woman, however, she is not an ideal English teacher. She is extremely unorganized and grades super hard on papers. It seems no matter how hard you try, she will tear the paper apart. She wastes time in class talking about readings which is pointless. Also gets very political.
Her classes are very long and boring, she talks about the reading for forever. Theres reading almost every night w/ a quiz the next day, but the quizzes are usually pretty easy if you acutally read and she drops one. She gives really good feedback on papers, which helps when you do rewrites at the end. Those and the portfolio boost your grade a lot
Class very boring, teacher often very rude and not understanding.
It's easy to hold a grudge against Reeves because she's the toughest essay grader you'll ever meet, but her feedback is actually valuable and will benefit you in the long run. She gives lots of extra credit opportunities, so it's hard to do poorly in the class. Just prepare to bomb some reading quizzes because they can be tedious even if you read.
Toughest essay grader ever. 10/10 do not recommend
I would consider switching out if you had the chance!!! She is very rude in my opinion and snarky with her commentary. Her grading criteria is very specific; if your writing style differs from her's, your in trouble. The class itself is mandatory with a detailed pop quiz to make sure you read. She makes you WORK ridiculously hard for an A.
Tough grader for sure but you have a chance to correct your essays at the end of the semester so it's not too bad when it comes down to it. Some reading but not the worst thing in the world. Usually followed by an easy quiz. Lectures can be a bit dry but she true cares and doesn't mind answer questions in depth in class.
Hard grader and very strict in her policies. Maybe not the easiest English teacher but I worked hard and got an A-. Reading quizzes every class, can only have a certain amount of absences, 3 papers, and a portfolio. She lets you rewrite papers and is easy to communicate with outside of class. Really just wants to teach you to write well.
I didn't feel like I gained much from this class. It was mainly just reading short stories and then taking quizzes on them.
Her reviews dont give her justice, she is a nice lady and very funny. She is a hard grader but gives very detailed feedback and lets you rewrite papers. Im not the best written but still got Bs on all the papers. Gives up to 25 points in extra credit. Plus 3 points/paper for best peer editor. Highly recommend, shes not that bad.
ik some ppl don't like her but she's actually amazing. gives out v detailed comments on essays, gives tons of extra creditsts you rewrite one essay. v funny and makes lectures interesting. also v understanding and adjusted entire grading scale to reflect changes due to pandemic. emails back v fast (even at 3 am in the morning) def recommend!
Shes a very nice person, but this class was the worst I have ever taken. Some of her comments made no sense and it was like she would do anything to not give you an A.
Professor Reeves offers help when needed but was a tough grader. She does offer a lot of extra credit and we did not have any pop quizzes due to Covid. However, her political commentary was quite rude and made me uncomfortable because we do not share the same views. We had politically-based projects and discussions, so I felt obligated to agree.
I think this is my absolute least favorite teacher of all time. She is extremely rude and a harsh grader. Also extremely not understanding. I think she made me cry 3 times during the semester because she publicly mocked me and then was rude in general. Personality aside class is very boring. Just reading quizzes and pointless discussion. avoid
shes not a bad person but at the same time it felt like she just doesnt want u to get As. she grades pretty personal at times and definitely have favourites. class is very boring and consisted of weekly pop quizzes and pointless discussions. essay grading is ridiculous where its basically if she doesnt like it then its off topic and u fail.
These reviews do not give her credit. She is a really nice lady who is laidback. If you go to class and genuinely care about your grade in the class you will get an A. She can be a tough grader, however, there are so many extra credit opportunities. She really wants you to succeed and I would definitely take this class and recommend her to anyone!
Do not take Professor Reeves unless you have no other choice. Class consists of pointless readings and quizzes that teach you nothing. Discussions are extremely boring and political. Essays are graded very harshly and if you do not write to her view point or on something she does not agree with she will give you a bad grade.
Expect to read at least twice a week and then sit through a class period of just her talking about it. Papers are harshly graded. She won't give you a grade if there are too many errors and if it's an opinion paper make sure she has the same opinion or you'll get a B- at best. The one positive thing is she lets you go to any class period time.
Boring lectures. Little focus on actual English and more on other topics of the teachers interest. Tough grader with good comments, but super hard for this level on English. Be prepared to write papers that agree with the teachers opinion and listen to lots of lectures. Super nice lady and I made good friends in the class!
If you genuinely put effort into the class, youll do fine. The essays are intensely graded. Did some comments hurt my feelings? Yeah, but itll help you in the long run. She is a nice professor and offers a ton of extra credit. Although I found some lectures boring, its not a terrible class.
Really picky and hard grader essays will make or break your grade. She does offer rewrites and gives in depth essay comments so u know what she wants. Reading quizzes are simple and easy if u did the reading, so do it. If you want an A just rewrite your essays and do the extra credit. Classes were semi boring and only responds to email 1/2 time
Professor Reeves is a tough professor when it comes to grading essays, but she is one of the most empathetic and caring professors I have met. She rewards students who participate in class and will move around assignments if students voice that they are being overloaded.
Looking for an easy A? look elsewhere. She gives a lot of feedback but sometimes had me wondering if I was literate. Reading quizzes every once in a while but not too bad if you read. Go to office hrs for help. She doesn't upload any grades to elc (she does give grades for individual essays on elw), so final grade's a mystery until the end. yay.
Professor Reeves is one of the most understanding professors I have ever had. She is quick to allocate extra time to complete assignments and will give you extensions for really almost anything. Honestly, if you show up and pretty much do the bare minimum you won't have as bad of a time as some people who have given her reviews say you will.
So many complaints. Classes were absolutely mind-numbing; my HS on-level lit classes felt more productive. She will absolutely tear apart any paper. Even if you manage to get an A, her comments will still make you feel bad about it. She had full control over how many points to take off for any given issue, and she always said writing was "awkward"?
She's a very nice lady and a good person, but maybe not a great professor. Lectures are long and boring. She also grades harshly for a first-year mandatory writing class. With her rubrics, it's nearly impossible to get an A, especially for non-English majors. Again, nice person, but wouldn't want to take a class w/ her again.
Dr. Reeves, despite the negative comments, was a decent professor. The readings and the lectures were quite interesting. I enjoyed the essay topics and felt like they pushed my ability as a writer. Dr. Reeves is a harsh grader, but you're allowed a rewrite if you're not satisfied with the grade. Also, Dr. Reeves offers a lot of extra credit.
As long as you go to class and participate it is an easy class. Yes, the grading can be harsh but she will work with you to help you improve your writing if you just ask her for help.
Very approachable and most of the time very sweet. However, in terms of a professor I do not recommend. She was very one-sided and graded things based off her personal views. Be ready to read. The class is mandatory, but she is pretty lenient if you just communicate ahead of time with her, otherwise you get 3 absences for the semester.
You can tell that she's passionate about literature, but I'd honestly make my life easier and take another professor.
She can sometimes be a harsh grader but provides good feedback, which helps a lot. The lectures were not the most interesting but the overall class was not too hard and there was a lot of extra credit. She is also very understanding if you ask her questions/concerns.
For this to be a pre req class, she makes this class miserable. You would think this class can be an easy A, WRONG. She grades papers harshly. Gives us reading that you may or may not be quizzed on. and some lectures are a waste of time. The good thing is that she lets you rewrite your essays and gives you extra credit opportunities.
Even though she was a harsh grader with essays, she has a lot of extra credit opportunities. Her lectures were pointless at times, but because she talks you don't have to do anything but listen. She is very understanding about concerns and replies fast. As long as you put effort into the essays and do the extra credit, an A should not be too hard.
She's very passionate in her teaching but a very tough grader. She does allow rewrites on essays and a lot of extra credit, so the grade you get is the amount of work you put in.
Toughest grader I have ever experienced. Never originally received above a C on a single essay, and her feedback is confusing. Half the time, she comments "Awkward" and never explains how to fix it. Obviously, most of us take this course because we have to. But she takes this class SERIOUSLY. *She does offer two essay rewrites*
She tries to make her lectures funny but in reality she just talks at you for the entire class (Strict about no phones or laptops out too). Takes months to get things back and in the last few days of school has only graded 30% of assignments therefore you have no clue of your grade. Also get ready for aggressive emails, and harsh grading
Dr. Reeves is a fine teacher in class and is somewhat helpful if you ask but the major negative is her grading. She seems to take off any points she can find on essays and is very condescending at times in her emails and comments. Reading is not too heavy and only one book is really worth reading. Would not recommend just because of the grading.
I rather liked Dr. Reeves, however she is a TOUGH paper grader. Most lectures were useless, but she allows few absences, use them wisely. Reading quizzes weren't hard. She's a sweet, caring, and funnyish lady - however if you have the option to take an easier professor, DO THAT. Lots of EC!
Just awful. Worst professor I've ever had. Legit. Spent hours on essays and presentations for this class, writing what I thought was my best work, all to receive horrendous feedback saying I didn't follow the rubric with no explanation. Do not by any means take her. In her words, "I barely passed" writing my best.
ONLY take her if you are a good writer. Her grading is extremely harsh and the structure of the class is very unorganized. The quizzes consist of her just asking questions aloud to the class. Im not even sure how much they really affected my grade either because she doesnt put any grades in elc and her main form of communication is email.
Not a great professor. ENGL1102 online with her is a nightmare. Her first essay involved using poetry and peer-reviewing, which not only were the instructions super unclear, it was impossible to peer-review people with unclear instruction in an online summer class. Avoid her class!
I consider myself a pretty strong writer but in this class I got low scores; learned a lot. She has a very specific thing she is looking for in essays. The lectures were boring and the elc+grading is unorganized. I didn't know my grade until they came out the last day but I somehow got an A. I put a lot of effort in to get that A though (do the ec)
Very very tough grader, as someone who was considered a good writer in high school it was a great shock to receive a C on my first paper. Not very organized in eLC and overall not very tech savvy, an overall tough class if you are not interested in English. She is a nice lady with a good sense of humor though.
You have 3 papers that she will grade hard, you do get a rewrite though. I found her to be very unorganized and her lectures boring. She has a no-electronics policy as well. She's a nice person and has dark humor, but I would not recommend her.
DO NOT take this class if you are Christian or conservative, she frequently makes derogatory comments about both views. She makes a whole paper about a political topic (out of a select few), and told the writer to write about abortion to write about how pro-life people are just power hungry (the teacher's own view).
Grading was not as harsh as I expected after reading other reviews. Allows rewrites and extra credit. Attendance is mandatory even though the lectures were boring & not very helpful for understanding the content. Overall though if you follow the rubrics exactly and get on her good side you will have a good experience in the class.
She is honestly not that bad. Class is really boring as she goes on long tangents during class. You aren't allowed to have your phone or laptop out while she is lecturing. There is lots of extra credit and as long as you show interest you can definitely end with an A. You have three graded papers and then a portfolio in place of a final
She is a nice person, but her class should not be taken. The assignments will take up a lot of your time, and the topics are usually either a little out there or just plain boring. Do not take if you are christian or conservative. Classes are essentially mandatory but you usually do not do anything important during class. Just don't take.
Don't take class if you are conservative or Christian and certainly do not try to incorporate any thing about those in your paper. Attendance is mandatory, lectures are boring, and don't think she could go through one class without showing her political views. Very harsh grader and can be condescending at times. Also no grade until end of semester.
Lectures are mandatory, very boring, and not productive. This course has a lot of work that will take up most of your time. Essays are hard to get a good grade on. Extra credit will save you. She does offer rewrites for essays. She is nice and funny, but would not recommend this class. save yourself
This professor ruined an easy class. Unorganized, never followed the syllabus, and delayed grading until the semester's end so you had no idea how well you were doing. Essays were nitpicked like grad course. Boring lectures had mandatory attendance. Constant chaotic emails made it worse. Don't take this professor—complete disaster, terrible.
The content taught in the class is not that hard to grasp. However, the lectures are kind of boring, and she waits until the very end of the semester to put in grades. She's also a very tough grader when it comes to grading papers.
I would rather bite the curb than take this class. I literally did not have any idea of my grade until grades were due. This is literally the worst teacher I have ever come across in my life. Do not think you can win in this class.
I never knew what my grades looked like because she took EXTREMELY long to grade big projects and also did not post grades in elc EVER. Attendance is mandatory but being in class did not affect my work, grades, etc. She did send weekly emails outlining assignments and plans for each class. Overall, however, she is very disorganized. Do not take her
I could write a 30 page essay about how bad this teacher was. Do not take her.
Professor Reeves is a hard grader, however, she outlines exactly what she is looking for in every single paper. Her lecture can be boring, but a whole month of the class is class presentations. Prof. Reeves gives out a ton of extra credit, and if you take advantage of that and her specifications you will be fine. I will say she is slow at grading.
Least organized person I have ever met. There is not a clear syllabus so you don't know what you need to be working on unless until the Sunday before when she sends a weekly email. Takes forever to grade and I didn't know what my grade even looked like until it came out on Athena.
Very nice woman, but her classes are extremely boring and lecture heavy (she tends to rant). Only three essays each year (plus one presentation), but she gives more than enough information to help you through them. Very hard grader, but the amount of extra credit she offers can help boost your grade to an A at the end of the semester.
Really great person but here lectures were boring, uninformative for the most part, and largely insignificant. Papers were ok but graded harshly, and they overlapped at times. Project was cool and easy. Portfolio was doable in a decent amount of time. Maybe find a professor who has better reviews for being a decent lecturer.
Sends constant emails about assignment clarification. Grades were very slow to come back. The extra credit was a game changer. Lectures were boring. Overall, its a passable class, but be ready to write and work outside of class.
She is a really nice person who clearly wants you to succeed. There are two long papers, a few easy quizzes, some readings, and a final project. All of these things are no sweat just time consuming. She is very easy to reach outside of class and answers emails almost immediately. The only thing is she takes years to grade things. recommend
This is the most political teacher I have ever had in my entire life. To add onto it, she didn't grade anything until may 12….. grades were due on may 12. You do not know your grade until the very end. She never fails to bring up her political views and push her political agenda every day during class.
Harsh grader on essays but gives very clear feedback, allows rewrites, and gives a lot of extra credit to make up for it. Tries to be really quirky and eccentric, especially in her long emails which she sends each week. A bit disorganized and takes FOREVER to grade essays. However, mostly chill and not hard to do well if you put in the effort.
do not take this class
Sometimes i'd appease and try to be liked in class or follow her political ideas blindly just for a good grade. She was the harshest english 1102 grader and had some of the worst timing ive ever seen from a teacher when it came to grading.
