Quite a terrible professor. Not well organized, tests have poorly followed the book and lectures, and frequently gave assignments on painfully short notice. Probably avoid.

Worst teacher I have ever had. If I could give her a 0 I would. Assigns homework that we have not covered in class. Says tests will be in a certain format and are not. When you go to review sessions she gets angry when you ask for examples, because she does not have any prepared. The only reason I am doing well in this class is because of my T.A.

She was absolutely awful, she did not keep to the syllabus. Her test were ridiculous and had things on there that were stated would not be. Gets angry at students not understanding material. when you ask for her to slow down on lessons she doesn't change speed. Doesn't curve the test even though everyone is failing them. worst class ever taken.

Haven't taken chem since junior year of high school and this is probably the hardest class I've taken in college so far. She lectures over material the day before the test and still puts it on the test the next day. There are a ton of in class notecard activities over material we had just learned a few minutes before from the powerpoints.

Honestly one of the hardest classes I have ever taken and with her being the teacher it was worse.

Dr. Sharpe Elles is a nice person but she is very unclear about the topics we talk about in class. She rushes through the explanation and spends too much time on the clicker questions & notecards. The textbook helped me a lot.

Be ready to teach yourself. Lisa goes way too fast in class and spends too much time on clicker questions. She lectures up until the test and her "reviews" are just going over slides. Would not reccomend. Is accessible during office hours, however.

Terrible professor. Very unreasonable and doesn't care about students. Take someone else's class if you can. Also way too many clicker questions and bad at explaining. Be prepared to learn on your own.

Teaches way too fast and wont post any slides or notes until the end of the unit. Extremely strict and not lenient on grades or participation at all.

Lecture was very fast-paced and she spent little time on questions over the slides. She lacks the capability of explaining difficult topics to a large lecture hall full of students who are in an introductory chemistry course and lack the background knowledge on these topics. When visiting her office hours she was flippant and seemingly too busy.

Teaches very fast. The online homework due every week and very excessive and always a lot harder than any problems practiced in class. The TA's seemed to be more helpful than the actual professor. The tests are hard, but the way they grade allows for students to receive the maximum point possible just make sure you always show your work and label.

Definitely do not recommend this professor. Not very helpful when answering questions regarding homework help. Focuses too much on specific things in the lecture which are not on the exams.

a lot of what she teaches doesnt end up on tests and quizzes, a lot of the quiz and test questions look nothing like anything done in class. not very helpful when asked for help. however most of the TAs in my and my peers experience were easy graders and helped during labs

Not a good instructor at all, she will spend too much time on the small details of things when they don't even appear in any quizzes or exams. The homework problems are always way harder than the actual test questions and she can treat the class like they are in elementary school sometimes.

Coming into this class without a lot of chem background makes it very difficult to learn. Too much time is spent on little things that are not on tests. Not enough time is dedicated to showing how to do practice problems.

Lisa is extremely disrespectful towards students. She laughs when they ask questions and does not proceed to answer them. All of her test contain information never addressed in class and she gets annoyed when students get answers wrong. Her lectures are made to be way more confusing than the information actually is. I learned everything from the TA

Worst classroom experience I have ever have. Sharpe Elles does help SOMETIMES, but overall, she is condescending towards students, made me feel like a bad student, taught too broadly then asked specific questions on exams. TAs were horrible too. The extra credit is nice and she does do some favors, but again overall just not a pleasant teacher.

I have never been good at chemistry, but each time I would ask her for help or another student would she would laugh. Sometimes even skip over the question. She was always passive aggressive and she would explain stuff for so long that it would become lost. I would never recommend taking anything with her, as shes on academic probation (a rumor).

There were points where some things seemed very clear, but overall she taught very broadly when all homework, quizzes, and exams were way more concise. I approached her during office hours and asked how to do something and she said "well if you've been to my lectures you would know how to do that" so I left. I got a 62% on that test. Awful prof.

DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS IF YOU DON'T KNOW CHEMISTRY! Sharpe Elles is not accommodating in her material for people who do not have at least a base level understanding of chemistry. Easily one of the worst professors I've had at KU. She obviously knows the material herself but cannot teach it to anyone else.

Very nice professor, just not very good at getting back to you on time. The class is hard and asking for clarification on things usually doesn't do any good or help things make more sense.

Professor Elles is the hardest teacher I have had so far at KU. I would not reccomend taking this class online it is the hardest thing ever. She gives you four different websites to use and multiple things due each week for the class plus a weekly quiz every friday over what we have learned from the week. Her examples are hard in her lectures.

Literally the hardest class ive ever taken. Doesnt teach, expects you to have phd in chemistry when you walk in. The review for quizzes and exams are COMPLETELY different from the tests. You can never catch a break with the quizzes or tests there are ones every single week. Avoid at all costs!

Do not recommend. This class is the first class I have ever had that is truly set up for failure. I personally don't have time to go to a 50 minute lecture to do homework over the lectures she expects to be watched online by the class time. She talks for about 15 minutes before the exam, leaving about 30 minutes for a 5 page exam. Insanely Hard.

Sharpe Elles is one of the worst professors Ive had at KU. There has been a few times that Ive asked for help and she has insulted me and made very unprofessional remarks towards me and other classmates. She does not teach well at all and expects you to know everything already. This professor sets you up for failure.

I think the worst professor at KU I have had so far. I have had amazing teachers here at KU until her. She is very rude when it comes to asking questions. I had to ask her a question in class and she basically called me stupid. When you come to chemistry she expects to watch hour videos and know the material when you walk in. WORST CLASS EVER!

its a flipped course so lots of the learning was done outside of class. I did all the things she recommended to be successful in class and still had an amazing amount of trouble in class. When she gets asked a question she isn't helpful, the only thing that saved my grade was going to the TA sessions every week and getting a good grade in the lab

She loves to assign worksheets at the very end of class based on information we have yet to learn; and claims that we will have time to work on them during then next class. We get about 3 minutes at the end of class to work on them and they are due 10 minutes after class is due. It is hard due to a flipped classroom and in class she fails to help.

Sharp Elles is one of the worst professors I've ever had. She does not help at all, puts incorrect information on her slides to see if people are doing the readings, and even her TA's have no clue what is going on in the class. Many times she has made someone cry in class by degrading them and telling them that they are stupid and don't understand.

Along with flipped classroom videos, there was so much homework. I was also always doing the in class work at home because almost no time was given. The content never really matched up with the labs either.

She makes you do the learning outside of class, so reading and watching lecture videos. During class she doesn't make any sense. Even though it is intro chem, you need background knowledge. Homework and worksheets due.

Took this class for credit and my major. WOULD NOT take it if I didn't have to. She says the classroom is flipped (meaning that we do homework and collaborate in class and watch lectures outside of class), but she really just lectures the entire class anyways. Never any time to do work in class. She LOVES iClicker as well. Unfortunate.

It makes me feel bad to leave a bad review but this class just isn't it. There is reading and lecture videos outside of class that take a lot of time to do. This is a flip class type of deal. Outside of class there is also homework, learning checks, and worksheets. She does say that worksheets are done in class, but never time!

She teaches a flipped classroom and expects you to know everything when coming to class. She also never gets to what she has planned for the lecture because she spends too much time talking about irrelevant things. Multiple of her TA's have commented on how she teaches us the harder way of some things when there are easier methods.

DO NOT take chem from SE! Chemistry comes very easy to me- but she made me hate it! I enjoyed the lecture videos, but the time in class felt pointless and unhelpful. She puts lots of emphasis on finding a study group and working with them- not great if you work alone. her grading system is terrible and you only get your real grade toward the end!

She doesn't lecture. She will say to do it in class but never gives time or actully do it with you. She will talk to you like you are just a dump person and not even help.

The videos did not help and she doesn't explain concepts in lecture due to them "being on the videos". Also crams a test every Friday regardless of class comprehension.

She lacks the fundamental ability to effectively communicate scientific concepts. Rather than teaching with clarity and coherence, her lectures are just filled with nonsense. She has a quiz every week which just wastes time and tanks everyone's grade. This was horrible and caused me to get physically ill with how stressful this class was.

Lol, she's the reason why I am changing my major. Cannot fathom being a professor and lacking the "want" to master your craft. Everyday she walks into lecture she just disappoints 95% of her students by showcasing her inability to facilitate learning. I could go on for days, but if you're reading this and thinking of taking Sharpe, don't.

She says CHEM 135 is a flipped classroom, then why do I have class 3 days a week. Lectures and notes all need to be taken outside of class. In class she says you work on worksheets, you don't, she makes up hard problems and quickly solves them with little to no explanation. Takes many hours a week.

Every quiz or test would have extra difficult variations on problems that we were seeing for the first time, very little in class prep of any kind. She makes lecture videos to watch outside of class time that are like 5-10 minutes max and barely explain material, totally insufficient for a "split model" which she claims this class is

There is A LOT of homework and the system often doesn't work. The tests were very long and had to be completed in 50 minutes. You teach yourself the class and then go to class to get more confused. She can't do math and blames the students. I am worried that I am going to struggle in my next chemistry class because the content was taught poorly.

There is so much pre-class work you have to do only to be taught contradicting information in class. The homework takes forever and Often times the website doesn't work. While she is incredibly friendly I feel like she is far too quick to blame students for not doing well instead of recognizing that the content is being taught poorly.

“flipped” course and yet doesn't let us do homework in class. All she does is do clickers that even the TAs don't know how to do sometimes. Her tests say partial credit on some problems but if you get the first part wrong the rest will just get you a 0 anyway. if you are on a premed track do not take 135 with this woman. take shuai instead.

She conducts her class on a "flipped model". Class is spent trying to figure out iclicker questions with difficult variables that the class hasn't learned yet. She does not explain how to do the questions in class after speeding through the work. I have taught myself the entire class. Do not take a class with this woman if you enjoy your sanity.

She was awful. Did not allow me to makeup any work while my grandma was in the hospital and I missed one class. She teaches nothing during class and you have to teach yourself everything or go to the SI or TA sessions. I absolutely hated this class and everything she said made me mad. Immediately signed up for CHEM 135 with Burger-Dunn. DONT TAKE

She was awful I took her Chem 130 class and she never really taught me anything. I felt like I had taught myself everything in this class and I even tried to go to her for some help and clarification but even then she was still no help. For Chem 135 the first thing I did was make her I did not have her for my class.

She rushes her lectures and is overall a terrible professor. What you went over briefly the class before will be an in depth question on the exam the next class. Be prepared for 50 minutes for a 5 page exam that is nothing like the review. If you value your sanity DO NOT take this class.

Prof. Sharpe doesn't really "teach" lecture and instead assigns lots of homework/worksheets and expects that going to her coffee hours/ PLUS sessions should make up for the fact that she doesn't teach. Hardly anyone felt prepared for their exams bcuz of lack of teaching/ her class materials are wildly diff. from her actual exams. Very nice lady tho

Would never ever recommend taking Sharp Elles's class. It's a flipped classroom (meaning you do everything outside of class). You have pre class questions, pre class lectures (normally 2 30minute videos), class worksheets, and you have quizzes every single Friday and exams every two weeks. Don't recommend. RUNNN!!!

Not the best when explaining material. When it comes time to take an exam she expects us to know the topics that she spent the least amount of time explaining.

To navigate this course, attend regular office hours. I attended GTA hours before every class and the TA is the reason I succeeded in this course. Because it's flipped, it's best to not bother watching the lecture videos and just find an online source to teach you instead. I used Chad'sPrep the entire semester and I learned every concept from him.

She does not have your best interests at heart. She is rude and treats issues as if they are accusations, not questions. The saving grace in that class is Stephanie, her head TA. I tried to talk to S.E. about my iclicker attendance grade being adjusted for a few days since her class is a dead for phones. She blamed me for not being proactive.

Do not take any chemistry with Sharpe Elles, she does not have her students best interest at heart. She is very quick to blame students instead of taking accountability for her own mistakes and has an incredibly confusing grading scale. If you reach out with questions she will not help you, only make you feel as if you are in the wrong.

By far the worst teacher I had my entire freshman year. Would do iClickers in the first 30 seconds of class and everyone would miss points. Gave no grace and when asked if I could do anything to raise my grade basically said I wasnt studying enough. Would NOT reccomend to ANYONE. terrible. had to write second rating cause i ran out of room. the only reason i even passed this class was because i went to 3+ help sessions a week with TAs and SI. she does not care about her students at all unless you sit at her office hours daily. also said the final was not cummulative but then put questions on there from unit 1. If you look up freeloader in the dictionary, you will see a picture of Sharpe-Elles. She never uses class time to teach, and instead forces you to learn at the TA sessions outside of class time. I would not recommend her to anyone.

She was the worst teacher I have ever had. I have never received a B in any classes until hers. She does not teach at all, but instead, she makes you teach yourself. Then, when the test comes you hope and pray you taught yourself enough.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! I'm telling you all she do in class is stalking about stuff that we gonna do next time and bad with time managements. IF YOU TAKE THIS CLASS GO TO TA SESSION, THEY'RE SUPER.

She is terrible at teaching and getting points across, almost all exams/quizzes had typos in which she would have to address during testing times, class would be confused 90% of the time and not be able to answer her lecture questions.

The homework got so bad at certain points chemistry was all I was doing. Even after doing all homework assignments (on a crappy textbook software, ACHIEVE), going to TA sessions, and studying, my test scores were mediocre as well as everyone else's in the class. I would go to TA session and even the TA's didn't know what was going on.

Do not take this class unless you want to cry yourself to sleep every night and study for 10 hours for a quiz and the things you study not even being on the test.

She flies through lectures throwing out new information left and right. Quizes and or exams every week with information it seems we just learned in the previous lecture. Tons of homework every week, exams are long and very challenging, and quizes are short but questions it seems we never know how to do.

I would tell you not to take this professor. She doesn't teach you. It's all outside of the classroom. Half of the time in lecture you will have no idea what's going on. But wait you have a quiz on Friday. That is over stuff you just you learned on Wednesday and if the class average is bad no accountability is taken from her.

A lot of people who say it's bad because of the work/understanding outside of class just need to wake up, that's college. She just teaches irrelevant information in class, and basically says I can't teach you it, so i'm going to REQUIRE you to go to TA sessions, which are also pretty mediocre. I had her for CHEM 110, she is the worst teacher ever. She will mention something once for not even 5 minutes and then expect us to know exactly what we are talking about. She does not teach, so be prepared to teach yourself everything outside of class. She does not understand that we are in intro to chemistry and not chemistry professionals.

She is a very tough grader and doesn't accept late work. She doesn't know how to teach and if you want to actually learn something you need to never skip a class.

The class should honestly be labeled as hybrid or just be fully online. You basically teach yourself as you watch her assigned videos; then the lecture was just a tiny review. Is sometimes all over the place during a lecture; I do highly recommend going to office hours or help rooms because those are very beneficial.

Don't take chem135 w/ this woman. I did the homework, took notes over the pre-class slides before class, watched her optional videos, did all her extra credit and mock exams prior to exams, and I still would walk in and average a C. I would study for 20+ before a test and a couple hours before the weekly quizzes and it never helped.

Be aware that this is a flipped classroom, meaning she expects you to teach yourself everything so that she can spend time going over what we're gonna do next time. She has poor time management, take every single second of class time, sometimes go over, and when students leave bc they have other things, that's when she decides to give worksheets.

The instructor's teaching style was challenging to follow. The explanations often lacked clarity, and the pace of the course felt rushed, which made it difficult to fully grasp the material.

I seriously would suggest doing CHEM130 with the other professor instead. Dr Sharpe Elles doesn't seem to care for all students equally. The flipped classroom is challenging and she does not take any responsibility, even if the whole class fails a quiz or mega quiz she finds a way to completely blame it on the students!

Sharpe Ellis was disrespectful and rushed through so many important topics. She got frustrated when the class average on tests was 65% but didn't spend time working through things. She rushed through each homework every class period. Be prepared to teach yourself everything. Also, prepare for a sassy/awkward reaction from her. Avoid this class!

This lady will give you a practice exam worksheet for the test and then puts little to nothing about the what you studied and what she told you to study on the exam.She also goes over the easiest stuff in class and then amplifies those questions by x10. she is not good at teaching you when you have questions too. She is really bad professor 👎

I tried to like Dr SE. I really did. I hoped if I just paid attention in class and did the homework, I'd enjoy the class. I was wrong. The "lectures" are pointless, just an excuse to give out groupwork, and you can't skip them because of iClicker. The online lectures are shallow and short, and to top it off exam reviews are NOTHING like the exams.

Does not know how to properly teach a flipped classroom, or at all. Lectures were not used to explain anything, and lectures posted in Canvas were not helpful. If you ask for help, she will act like you're the scum underneath her shoe. Also, there is a "semester project" that has nothing to do with chemistry. The most help I got was from YouTube.

This class humbled me spiritually, mentally, and academically. Quizzes every Friday on stuff she taught like 12 minutes ago. If she's the only option, drop the class in all seriousness. Come back next semester with an emotional support animal and a priest. If you take this class, make sure your financial aid covers therapy because you'll need it.

Out of my time at KU, one of the worst professors I have had. Does not treat students like human beings.

Class is video-lecture heavy and depends on homework. Exams are often not what the "study-guides" say they will be. She hides the average exam results because they are often poor. Can be very condescending both in person and over email. Best thing about her class are the TA's.

Cannot teach for the life of her. Wastes all our time in class treating us like babies and doing simple equations then tests us on things 10x harder than what we go over in class. Passive aggressive and unaccommodating to students. None of her exam reviews are anything remotely like the exams. Doesn't tell the TA's anything so they're useless also.

She is confusing when it comes to lecture. She doesn't explain things she basically makes you do the work with other people around you. The practice exams she provides isn't like the actual exam.
