Not goo with clearly defined directions. Says to do things one way and then changes her mind without notice, and grades badly.
Test are pretty easy if you study the chapters. She gives answers to 20 questions on each test. Like a bonus for you. Grades poorly on projects and papers...Doesn't really pay attention. Okay class to take, if you do the extra credit you'll be fine.
she teaches at Georgia Military College. She asks you to participate but then gets defensive at your opinions. She's not what i consider "professional"-she kept us waiting for an hour before our final so she could get her hair done. She didn't really prepare us for the class.more like she threw our curriculum together at the last minute.
She likes to change her mind on assignments without notice. She is unprofessional, and uses curse words throughout the class. She is not prepared and the book is rarely used. She does not go by the syllabus. She got mad when the whole class failed the 1st test & gave us as a result a APA style research paper to write as the final.nothing learned!!
I took Ms. Smoot for Social Problems Analysis. She is not terribly hard, but you have to pay attention and attend class. I think she grades fairly and if you attend class and do the work, which there is a lot of, then, you should do fine. She is not mean. Just do the work!!!
she is really all over the place. nice teacher, but she is very bias for a soci class. and she is the most disorganized teacher i have ever met. she gives you ALOT of busy work and doesnt explain anything. and if you ask her she will tell you to ask someone else. take her if you have to, but i am sure there are better soci teachers out there.
Ms. Smoot is a great sociology teacher. If you are expecting to get an easy "A" then take someone else. She treats us like we are in college, thats why people don't like her. She is fair and I definitely reccomend her.
Is not a good introductory teacher. Very impersonal. Not clear with assignments. When asked a question does not give full responce that is needed.
Thought she was going to be a fun professor because she was young, but how wrong I was! I'm still trying to figure out what the class was REALLY supposed to be about because all we do is talk about black and gay people. Would NOT recommend this class what so ever!
Needs a bit more experience in order to be great. Her lessons always center around the impact society has on black people and the inequality in the "system." Annoying! An easy A, however; She grades very easily. You have to make a 20 minuet movie for your final project; have to. There are other professors with more experience and teaching ability.
Yes Comments are true about race and sexual preference, but who cares if you're gonna get an Easy A I missed about 4 assignments, never came to class and when I did I was late, and slept thru it and still made a B, and i couldnt tell you what we learned about lol, u just need the grade, you're not tryin find a friend.
1.Don't take her.2. If you get stuck with her i'm sorry. Don't waste your time reading the syllabus, it is completly useless in this woman's classroom. Racist. If you don't think the same things as her, you will have a very hard time in here. If you find profanity insulting, don't take her.Not to mention she doesnt even have a phd.
She's the "Livest" professor I've ever come in contact with throughout my journey in school.
She was the wrong person to be teaching a class about social behaviors and race.
She is very opinionated, so her classes are rarely dull. The work load on the other hand, while not terribly overwhelming, is completely unbalanced. She requires you to read articles and write 3 page responses to them every week. These responses carry the same weight as the quick, five minute exercises she assigns in class.
As a person she is very kind and compassionate, unfortunately as a professor she only concentrates on one aspect on Sociology and doesn't go beyond that. She loves assigning busy work, but it's nothing difficult. I never read the main book, but I still made an A. When I asked for help she told me to "figure it out." Annoying, but an easy A.
I had no idea what to expect, I checked this thing out and there was good and bad on here. I made a B in the class and I did learn a lot. If you get offended easy don't take her. I thought she was okay. I would take her again if I had to.
Always an interesting class. I took her for intro and made an A. She is very outside the box, opinionated, real, and will play "devil's advocate" just to get you thinking and talking. She is somewhat understanding, offers T-O-N-S of extra credit and grades on a curve. She can be confusing bc she wont always follow the syllibus, but LOVES teaching!
Easy A if you do all the assignments. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Doesn't give clear instructions on what she looks for in papers. Sometimes moody. I would recommend class if youre looking for something easy and entertaining. Get to watch lots of movies. Group movie project at the end of semester but very fun.
Social studies is pretty much my major area of concentration. But this was a very confusing, annoying class. Prof. relied almost exclusively upon showing us 'controversial' movies or videos, seemingly just for the ability to do so.Learned more from reading the textbook on my own time, than from coming to class.Project at end of class was pointless.
This teacher is an outstanding teacher. I was not too much interested in the material of this class, until i took this class with this instructor. She is an extremely intelligent and fun teacher. She makes the material fun, and keeps the material life like based. If you ever have to take this class, this teacher is a MUST!!
Intro class was easy. Come to class very informative, discussions, movies, a few papers, lots of extra credit! Provides study guide for exams.
Reading these posts makes me angry. She is a great teacher & luvs her job. Shes upfront & holds nothing back.I liked that about her. I had personal issues & not only was she patient with me she took time out of class to help.People who r ?upset? or who received bad grades r those that write on this site. 98% hese posts r bogus. I LUV Ms. Smoot!
Ms Smoot is an extremely intelligent great teacher. She knows her stuff and helps you to learn it as well. She uses various teaching methods that will allow you to "think out-side of the box." I would definitely take any other courses offered by her.
She is a great professor, and she enjoys what she does. She is willing to offer as much help as u need. She teachers on a level that u can understand.
Ms. Smoot is a great teacher as well as person. She really enjoys what she does and this shows by the lectures she has. I can tell that Ms. Smoot does alot of research beond the textbook, beacuse she knows alot of the material right off the top her head. I would recommend her to anone that wants sociology to be their major.
Professor Smoot is the BEST professor that I've ever had in college. I've had some good ones but she is everything that anyone should want in a professor. She's very caring, understanding, helpful, & goes above and beyond for her students. You can't just expect an A! You must do your part also! I love this lady so much and I only know her from ASU!
In a word....useless
OMG! Do not take this class from her! Everytime I asked for help, she emailed back useless information or 'read your syllabus'. Obviously, if I asked the question, I didn't understand it on the syllabus. I kept getting bad grades on my papers and I made A's in my English classes...problem right there!! Papers are a big part of the class too.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! Very passionate about the subject and her students. Many of her former students came to see her and she always asked how they were doing. Not many Professors care.. SHE DOES!!
Wonderful professor! Would take her again in an heartbeat :) Always helpful and will help when asked.
What an amazing lady, and she ain't too bad to look at either! In all seriousness, Smoot has seen the pretty and ugly sides of reality, and her words of advice are not to be taken lightly. She is real, and her personal convictions shine-- any young woman would be lucky to hear what she has to teach and share.
Ms. Smoot is a fantastic educator who has the rare passion and energy in career field. Her class is fast-paced and never dull, with interactive tests, group projects, extra-credit opportunities and relevant discussion that students can partake in. She is stellar person and the top of the spectrum professor! Beautiful, in so many ways!!!
Ms. Smoot was a very upfront and honest teacher. She was always there to help with any topics, confusion, or even issues outside of the class. She actually gets students involved with the topics and class discussion. Ms. Smoot has experienced a lot of things in life and this really helps with the course because it is real.
This class was a blast due to Ms. Smoot's teaching. She always had students involved and it made the class so much fun. This is a great teacher and she really cares about the course and students. Great grading and assignments are easy if you just read the book and pay attention in class. Use the book!!
This was one of the most fascinating experiences I've had at ASU. Ms Smoot is a gym among many at this university. She is compassionate, hard working, and very serious when it comes to educating. She cares for her students. She goes the extra mile to ensure that every student understands the tasks set before him/her. Awesome professor!
Ms. Smoot is an awsome teacher with great morals, values, and character. She teaches everyday life skills and examples through Sociology. I hope that she continues to teach at GRU.
I have been to two colleges and have had many professors but none of them have been as personable & joyful as Ms. Smoot. Not only is she encouraging to her students she always makes sure that her class is a joy to be in.
Ms. Smoot gives her students the academic flexibility to not only learn but incorporate sociology into aspects of their own lives. She encourages class discussions and keeps the class interesting, catering to the many different styles of learning. Not many professors take the time to adapt to individual students, she does and is also understanding.
Ms. Smoot is flawlessly beautiful, inside and out. She captures the interest of students and is a completely captivating individual. She takes into consideration the time constraints and demands of student's schedules and does not assign unnecessary work. Very excellent professor who has down to earth manners yet is still scholarly!
Very unprofessional & rude. She will curse alot during class and definitely chooses her favorites. Hopefully you are on her "like" list if not you will definitely know it. She definitely goes over the top for students she does like. Her tests are always at least 100 questions making it almost impossible to get an A. Good Luck!!
She drops those who don't do work/don't come to class. You will feel confident and think it's an easy class until you check your grade and realize you're doing awful. Tests are online & hard, you won't have time to look up answers even though it is open book. Final project is graded hard. I managed to end with a B but it was difficult.
This class was extremely interesting and she made it fun. She is real down to earth and a cool professor. Take her class seriously! You should still pass her class with an A or B Just do the work and show your full potential!
She is very unprofessional. Without knowing whom i was she said all i can get is a "c" or a "D". What kind of a professor does that. Her duty is to encourage her student to do well and succeed not to put them down at sight.
Smoot was really cool. If you have taken her before she seemed to show favortism but other than that i really enjoyed her class
She's everything a teacher should be. She cares about educating, yet her classroom discussions are real world stuff and I couldn't wait to get to class everyday. She is beautiful, honest, down to earth, fair and funny. Read the chapters, participate in class and do the work and you should make an A, if she sees effort from you, she is flexible.
I got an A in this class, but it was awful! She is so opinionated. She does not give precise instructions and then expects you to know what she wants. She's very difficult to work with. She is passionate about sociology but also somewhat bias. Like I said, I did get an A but I would not recommend her.
She is an awful teacher. Very opinionated and rude. Does NOT give clear directions for any of her assignments, and then is rude when she is asked why she gave the grade she did. I would NOT recommend her. DO NOT take her class.
GREAT PROFESSOR. Period. Yes, she can be opinionated at times but will assist with grades and help on assignments when asked. Provides personal cell # for students for extra assistance. Tests are NOT from lectures though so you have to read the book if you want to score well. I recommend HIGHLY. Easygoing professor.
Very great professor. The best professor I ever had. She grades more than fair. Gives very clear instructions. She will work with u when needed. She's very very helpful and understanding and treats everyone fairly. I would recommend her to everybody!!! E Scott
She is very charismatic and straightforward. You may not see eye-to-eye all the time but you will enjoy her class in the long run. Luckily, she gives out extra credit very often! She is well known for finding ways to support the community and helping her students out. I would love to have her class all over again.
Class is pretty interesting, however not a lecture class whatsoever. Be prepared to discuss topics or have a pop quiz. Isn't clear on what she wants for papers and is very inconsistent when grading them. Do Extra Credit, there is tons of it and it will save your grade!!
She was hands down my favorite professor I have ever taken. She will be tough on you if you do not read and participate in class. As long as you participate you do not have to worry about pop quizzes. Tons of extra credit as well and she is relaxed and willing to joke around with the class. Not like the other up tight professors at this school!!!!
Ms. Smoot is an amazing teacher. She is very helpful if you tell her what's going on! Communication is key! She is also very funny in class. Test are hard, but read the chapters in the book once or twice and it will help you out ALOT! Gives some answers on the test before hand! Loved Ms. Smoot!!
Prof. Smoot's class was very interesting, exciting, and entreating.
She is funny and rarely takes the whole class time.
Easy class if you do your work. A lot of online assignments but as long as you do it, it is an easy A class. Barely used my book but it does help during tests since all tests are online. Start on your group project early because it counts as your final exam. IF YOUR CLASS DOES NOT PARTICIPATE, SHE WILL GIVE POP QUIZZES.
Consistently changes due dates and instructions of assignments with no clear announcement. Expects a professionally edited and produced movie in her final project. May not be as bad in class, but it isn't worth taking the online class.
Ms. Smoot was a great professor. She was very understanding and her lectures were very interesting. The documentaries she showed us were also quite interesting. We rarely stayed in class the whole time. Her tests are all online so I suggest using the book and a few friends, but she also curves the tests. Take her it's an easy A or B!
Professor Smoot was a terrific teacher. She is a charismatic, smart, and caring professor who truly wants you to learn the material and make a good grade in her class. She is always available for questions and help and responds to e-mails very quickly. Respect her time and she respects yours. Read the chapters, participate, and you'll do well.
Literally the world's greatest professor. If I could take her class over and over again, I would. Class covered controversial topics, Smoot kept control and made everyone comfortable to speak and makes you think . She will threaten to give pop quizzes but if the class participates, she will not follow through. The best class I have ever taken.
She is honestly one of the best teachers I've had in a long time. She will help you find a way to make it, as long as you put forth effort.
The greatest Professor I have every had. Very clear grading criteria. She is also very helpful and the work reflects the topic of the course. All assignments are graded fairly and lectures are very interesting. Easy A if you just do the work assigned which is very reasonable.
Professor Smoot was extremely unclear with her directions when she gave assignments, cancelled class all the time, and gave tests over material that we had never covered. Her video project and research paper will take up a large amount of your time and she doesn't fairly grade assignments and always gives rude responses when she is asked for help.
A lot of Dropbox assignments - some she gives away 100's on and some she grades really hard. Hardly any lectures, mostly class discussion. (If your class doesn't participate in discussion, she will give a pop quiz). Test are all online. Your final is a group project - research paper and a video. Kind of snappy but can be very funny.
Ms. Smoot is okay in class but she isn't very clear on her grading on papers.
Ms. Smoot is amazing! I loved her class and the atmosphere she created in it. She is VERY helpful and completely understanding. She is a professor who makes it fun to go to class. SOCI1101 with her was a discussion based class. She values everyone's opinions. As long as you do all your work, you'll get an A. She did give occasional pop quizzes.
I would not take again. Class was boring, unenjoyable, and confusing. Lots of writing assignments. Communicates with students well but is not very friendly when doing so. Mostly online coursework. Gives tons of extra credit, which you will need in order to get an A. She's a very tough grader and be prepared for group discussions/projects.
She is an awesome teacher! She works with you and understands college is not cheap, majority of the time she lets you borrow her books, if you cant afford it. She loves to give extra credit and if you show up to class and participate you are guaranteed to pass. Your review is the test, so take notes, you will get an A!
Professor Smoot is hilarious! Most of your assignments will be online, and she HATES lecturing, so there wont be much of that. She gives lots of extra credit. Do not take her niceness as a ticket to skip class though because if you test her, she will bury you.
2 discussion boards every week. Make sure to provide insight in the discussions and post on time. A lot of papers but they weren't very difficult. Address all points and you should get a 100 on every single 1. Professor Smoot offers tons of extra credit and often reopens missed assignments. I made a 100 with all the extra credit I had in the class.
Professor Smoot was great. There was a lot of open class discussion which I liked along with this she prepared you well for test! She always did a review and gave a study guide. She did make us do a group project but it was very fun and made me interact with people on campus. I would definitely take her again !
Dr. Smoot gives alot of assignments. Every sunday there is multiple things due, but they are not hard mostly papers. She grades some hard but then she gives 100 on some. Everything is done online including tests. She gives lots of extra credit and bonus points. I received a 100 in the class with all the extra credit, and I missed 2 assignments.
If you take her, take the online course. Otherwise you'll be required to do everything the online students do, plus a bunch of other useless assignments. Tests are LONG. She's very unclear about grading. Had a final project that was a huge percentage of our grade, and didn't have any real guidelines, and she graded the project very strictly!
Mrs. Smoot is pretty funny and loves discussions/debates which I find fun. There were 3 tests which were basically 100 questions each online, and a TON of papers. We had a paper every single week that was never related to the material we were learning about. She started slacking and graded our papers at the last minute + stopped teaching us.
She gives a lot of extra credit but also many assignments. Her class is not hard at all just turn in the work and you should be fine. The only problem was some of her test questions were confusing.
There are a lot of assignments, but as long as you do them and turn them in on time you will most likely get a 100. She gives several extra credit opportunities. The tests are very long and can be hard, so make sure you really know the material. Quiz and discussion boards over every chapter. She is very friendly if you see her during office hours.
Professor smoot is very caring. If you do the work and turn it in on time you will get a 100 about every time. She is very easy to find. Also be SURE TO STUDY her test are very challenging.
Professor Smoot is THE BOMB. She loves each and every one of her students, and if you ever need her- she's there. All you have to do is come to class and do the assignments, and you're going to get an A. The final project is a bit difficult, but overall she's amazing.
Professor Smoot is a funny and chill professor. She cares about students and if you ever need anything, she will be there for you. Her lectures are very good and easy to understand and it is a "safe space" to voice your opinion. She makes her classes feel like we are all a family. I definitely recommend her.
Super funny and nice professor. She assigns a lot of papers, but if you do them and the extra credit assignments you'll be fine. She does grade the group project (assignment instead of final) much different than how she says she will. I ended up with a 102 in the class.
Social Problems Analysis. Worst class I've ever taken. Tests are ridiculously hard for a 1000 level course, requires you to memorize statistics and percentages rather than concepts you can apply to everyday life. Must read textbook & listen to lectures. Very strict, rude. Weekly discussion board posts (multiple) and quizzes, tons of other homework.
While the class itself was easy, the professor made it difficult. She didn't give clear instructions for assignments, with many random assignments buried somewhere within D2L. She was also rude if you asked her a question, or attempted to clarify what she wanted. The one redeeming quality is that she offers a lot of extra credit opportunities.
She's rude when you ask her questions and EXTREMELY unclear in her instructions. She makes a simple assignment more complicated by the way she gives instruction. Do not recommend.
I took her online Social Problems Analysis class. Dunno if it's because it was online and I didn't really meet her, but she sounded rude and mean through email. Also constantly emails things that aren't necessary/repetitive. Gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. A lot of assignments, papers, discussion posts, quizzes/exams every week.
Ms. Smoot is by far one of the best teachers. Not only does she offer so much extra credit that it's suffocating, but her quizzes and tests follow the book exactly (online course). I would definitely recommend her to anyone who needs to take sociology. Oh, and when shes feeling extra generous, she re-opens already closed quizzes and tests.
Very easy to coast through the online if you keep track of deadlines. Weekly set of things to do on D2L and thats really it. A LOT of extra credit. She can come across rude over email or take a long time to respond.
Typically she was very thorough with instructions, very communicative, but just beware the time constraints on discussion boards.
She was one of the rudest teachers I have ever come across. Her answers are vague and they make you feel dumb for even asking a question. I would NOT recommend her to anyone.
Professor Smoot is the most uncaring professor I have ever had. She will deduct points on assignments with no explanation, and when asked why she will respond as if you are stupid. I suggest taking ANY OTHER POSSIBLE professor. Highly unprofessional, rude, and downright the worst professor I have taken at Augusta University. Would give a 0.
The class was quite simple. The professor on the other hand was not. She is good, dont get me wrong but VERY blunt, so blunt to the point where its just rude. Avoid asking questions at all costs. Use Socratic and you will pass. Extra credit is great as well. She just has poor communication skills.
The class is not bad at all, but the professor is not that great. She doesn't explain the assignments clearly but still expect for you to know exactly what to do. Very strict when grading certain assignments and takes a good while to respond to emails. Also very strict with how and when to contact her outside of online lectures. Would not recommend
Very unprofessional and not specific in her instructions. I do not recommend her for this course.
One of the least caring professors I have had. You have to complete all of the extra credit assignments because she will deduct those points from your final grade if you don't do them. She never followed her office hours or scheduled meetings, and every time you email her with a question she says to "refer to the syllabus" even if it's not in it.
I would not recommend this professor if you actually care about sociology. The lesson plan is lazy. On top of that, there are no lectures meaning the material needed to complete assignments are not taught. the professor is uncaring, unhelpful, and rude. Don't bother asking any questions.
Professor Smoot is awesome. I had her class online and did everything amp. She gives modules every week and Sunday its due. She is very caring of one of the subjects makes you uncomfortable or you are not understanding of the material. The class consists of many papers but nothing too crazy. Just follow the syllabus closely!!!!
The professor is rude for no reason and has a bunch of unnecessary class guidelines which are inconvenient for the students. The only things I would change is the professor's attitude and the amount of papers we have to write. The papers are moderately easy, but there are quite a bit for a Sociology class.
A great online professor!
Professor Smoot is very kind and always willing to help. I had her online class and though she assigns a lot of homework, including a few personal essays, her class is simple and you can pass if you just do the work. Everything is open-notes and with the online course, you don't have a midterm/final. She also tries to keep things positive :)
Professor Smoot is not very clear on assignment guidelines, and if you ask for clarification she responds as if you're stupid. She mostly sends memos for announcements instead of emails, so if you prefer things in writing I wouldn't recommend. Easy course material but not a great online professor.
I took professor Smoot for here Fund. of Academic Inquiry class. she was alright she's better than the average college professor. You will have a final group project in this class so be involved or your grade will suffer. Listen to me when I say this ***She is a SOLID choice for your INQR1000 teacher*** Take her if you can!!
Ms. Smoot is nice, and she offers a lot of extra credit opportunities. However, I do feel the coursework load was a bit heavy for an intro course. I think if you plan on majoring or minoring in sociology, she would be the professor to go for, because she seems passionate and knowledgable.
There was alot of guidelines and assignments for an intro class.
Miss. Smoot is incredibly unprofessional. I have emailed her over five times with no reply. She also claims that I missed multiple classes when I only missed one. I participated in class and submitted homework and papers on time. In addition, she is not clear regarding assignments. Don't take this class with this teacher.
Professor Smoot is a great and knowledgeable professor. The provided syllabus was clear (e.g., it stated how to structure discussion posts, laid out the timeline for each assignment, etc.). If I had to take another course that this professor teaches, I would sign up for it with no hesitation.
Easy class, and she uploads lectures that are helpful.
Professor Smoot is excellent!!!!
Easy class, basically a completion grade. Consists of quizzes, discussions, and few essays.
Smoot is a great professor. There are lots of discussion posts, but everything is clear and has a clear due date. There were no tests just 2-3 quizzes every week. Everything for the week was due on Sunday at 11:59pm.
It's a lot of work. Make sure you read the textbook and the power points for the quizzes. She has specific grading criteria for every assignment. You will most likely get a zero if you don't do everything correctly.
I would say Professor Smoot was a great professor to take especially for the online lecture. Discussion posts were easy and if you reviewed the lecture notes you would be fine. The thing I liked the most was that there was no big tests. NO EXAMS!! This class is an easy A. She is a kind professor and she will answer your questions if you have them.
I took her online and she was awesome. You just have to follow the assignments that she posts on each module in d2l, which she organizes really nicely. Everything is there for you, so it is up to you to do good.
I had Professor Smoot Fall of 2023, her class was straight to the point we had most modules due every Sunday which included chapter check-ins and a quiz. She provided multiple extra credit opportunities, was very flexible with schedules, and extended an assignment because we were on break that week. She would also send encouraging emails.
It's a lot of work for a sociology class. Make sure you read the syllabus, she has a specific grading criteria for every homework but she won't say anything because it's on the syllabus. If you don't read it, you will probably get a 0 in your hw
Honestly it is a lot of work and there are so many 1-2 page essays but I have a feeling she grades those mostly based on completion. I had around 5 missing assignments and came out with a 94 with all the extra credit she gave. DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT. I promise you it will help. I will say she is very strict on due dates.
Ms. Smoot is a PHENOMENAL instructor! Complete your assignments on time and do the extra credit. There are weekly discussion posts, a quiz/test, and a 1-2 page essay due weekly, but they are doable, as long as you read the weekly chapter. There's a midterm and final but she gives you a study guide that "really" helps you prepare for the exams.
She was the worst prof I've had. She never responded to emails, and the one time she did she was no help. The textbook we had to get was almost useless, and the tests were completely different from the notes and lectures. Beware and stay away from her.
Passionate & Understanding; Online Course Is Homework & Reading Heavy; Very Easy; Structured & Organized; Self-Pacing To Meet Deadlines; Deadlines Are Usually 1-2 Weeks Long; Okay-Ish At Answering Emails But Not Really; Extra Credit Available Throughout The Semester; Sends Updates If Anything Goes Wrong.
One of the best professors I've had. She was very understanding, and kept the course interesting. No big tests, just module checks. Enough time to get all the work done.
The class is very easy. It was very straight to the point.
This class was so fun! The vocabulary quizzes were super easy and open book. However, make sure to read the chapters because the chapter review quizzes are in depth. The assignments for this class were super easy and fun to do. She gives many extra credit opportunities so make sure to do them!
I took her online class and she was so kind. I took her class during Hurricane Helene and she reopened every assignment and quiz multiple times to make sure everyone was able to do them. She does have some weeks with lots of busy work but they are easy to do.
She is very passionate, her class is super easy to get an A in. However, if you are in search of a really in-depth understanding of the fundamentals of Sociology, this class doesn't offer the most insight. You have your book, crash course and what you can find online. She doesn't do lectures or provide more resources, that is my only critique tho!
Overall, great professor. We were assigned 4-6 assignments with a 2-week period to complete them. There are a quite bit of papers, but the most pages required was 3-4. She gives you lots of extra credit as well. Not only is she very lenient with the deadlines but she is also very efficient on communication. Overall, 4.5/10.
she gives lots of extra credit and although there's a lot of assignments/papers, they were very easy and she gives clear instructions. no final exam, but her quizzes (we had 1 every week) all use lockdown browser with webcam. she was not reachable via email for me, she never answered any of my emails.
This class was very easy if you keep up with the quizzes and work. There are online quizzes, discussion posts and one or two assignments weekly. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. It will be a blessing. She can be hard to get ahold of though, otherwise she is a good teacher.
Professor Smoot's SOC1101 class is a solid choice, especially if you utilize Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook and her organized module structure. The workload is manageable with the extra credit opportunities, and her feedback helps you improve. An engaging class for sociology-inclined students.
Not a terrible choice for a sociology class, lectures were easy to understand and deadlines were every sunday, manageable workload with other classes, uses lockdown browser + webcam for chapter review quizes but only lockdown for vocab quizzes.
Pretty good professor, lots of extra credit opportunities, easy grader. Everything is due by Sunday, some of the quizzes use a webcam and some don't. There are a few writing assignments but as long as you follow the instructions and get it done on time it's an easy 100. She also will reopen quizzes, assignments, and exams every now and then!
A pretty average professor. She had a lot of assignments which included busywork but also a lot of extra credit opportunities. Definitely an easy A as long as you do all the assignments. The only negative was her due dates. She would often change them last minute which irritated me.
Professor Smoot is an amazing professor with very easy assignments. I thought it was an easy class to take with your other harder class. A lot of quizzes but super easy I PROMISE.
Good professor with clear expectations and LOTS of extra credit options. Boosted my grade from a B- to an A+. It's very discussion heavy though with strict guidelines which can be seriously annoying. But as long as you turn everything in on time (even for half credit) you'll 100% pass.
It's a super easy class and Professor Smoot is easygoing and forgiving. The coursework consists of online quizzes with lockdown camera a bunch of discussion posts and some written assignments. There's not a lot of work that you have to do just follow directions as stated in the syllabus and be prepared for the quizzes luckily there are no tests.
I've had this professor for both SOCI 1101 and SOCI 2241 both online. The courses are very easy and while you have to do a lot of papers and discussion boards, as long as you follow the guidelines she gives 100s for literally everything. Also gives a ton of extra credit assignments that are super easy. Highly recommend this class for an easy 100.
Amazing professor who sends regular emails with reminders, encouragement, and inspirational check-ins. The course is broken into modules with two quizzes and a check-in each, varies sometimes. There's plenty of extra credit, so take advantage! Don't wait until the last minute to turn things in—stay on top of it!
You can tell this professor is very passionate about her subject. Her class does involve a lot of work, and the reading is 100% necessary to complete assignments and to answer many of the questions on the exams. Overall, the class requires some hard work and persistence, but the professor's enthusiasm makes it interesting.
Do not recommend taking this professor she does not respond to emails. She grades really harsh but does not explain what is needed to get a good grade on things (discussion posts). Just overall a very inactive professor.
She give a lot of optional extra credit which could be done at any point. You do have to write 1-2 page essays but she is not an though grader. She give 1-3 weeks to complete a module depending on how much work you have to do. But her class is not hard at all. And you don't have to wait till end of semester to find out your grade.
This is probably the worst experience I have ever had with a professor. She closes discussion posts so you can't see what she is talking about in her feedback, takes forever to grade, and is overall just terrible to deal with. I usually never rate professors.. I think everyone has a different experience but this has just been insanely terrible.
Easy class as long as you complete the work!
Please do NOT take her. I promise you will thank me. She is terrible. She gives tons of thousands of homework that's a bunch of stuff due on sunday. That's fine. I don't mind work. After all, it's a class. However, you can never win with her. She will find a way to get you zeros even when doing everything you can. I am exhausted. DO NOT TAKE HER.
The professor does not respond to emails!!!!!! You won't get any help if you have any questions. The class overall was easy, but I do NOT recommend you take her.
she was great for online, she responded at a good time when i emailed her, the class was overall easy and i really enjoyed lots of the work you did, most of the time you can knock out most of your work in 1 day and be free for the rest of the week.
