She tries to be a punisher and is very strict. Too bad she is the only teacher who teaches csb 50
Shes strict on attendance, but what else can be you strict about on a class that introduces the business school. The only paper required was easy, shes the best to take this class with.
She's decent looking (or at least better looking than most of the Business professors) and shes helpful. She does her job, and most people that i have talked to have made up their mind as to what option they want to go into by the end of the class.

She gave quizzes to see if you read, but she would phrase the question so vague and if you didn't give the exact answer she was looking for, even if it was correct, she would mark it wrong. Didn't like that. The Ropes Course was fun though.
Kinda boring. Soft Voice. Not too difficult. Stickler on grammar.
CSB 50 is barely a class, but it's easy, she's very helpful, and she's good-looking. So, score.

She says that she is good at English, so she deducts so many points from your papers NEEDLESSLY. Students in business major do not need to write papers artistically, but she asks for it. She should teach English or literature class.
She is unreasonable and will give you no breaks. her lectures have nothing to with the class and the tests make no sense. Look out for the final it is impossible and if you are 5 points from an A in a 1000 point class she will not give you the grade, but will reassure you that you got the highest B in the class, YIPPIE!!, NOT
If you wanna learn the material, this is the instructor to take. If you want an easy passing grade, take someone else. She get's a bad rep because she's hard but seriously...this is college! Be willing and prepared to learn and you should do fine.
She's a very nice teacher, class is tough but she tries to make it better. She tells some pretty funny stories about her son, which makes the class less horrible. She's definitely one of the better teachers I've had in college.
This professor, besides knowing her stuff, is really nice and helpful. At the same time, this is a college course and it is ridiculous that students are offended when she expects you to come to class, learn the material taught, and write grammatically correct papers. Really? Get out of class if you aren't willing to earn your grade.
You receive 30% of your grade from simply attending class and doing the in-class assignments. The remaining 70% is from tests (2 @ 20% and one at 30%). Tons of extra credit available. Her study guides are invaluable for test practice. I received an A. She's not bad at all. Many students received B's - not bad.
She was an extremely helpful teacher who loves to teach!
This class was surprisingly easy with Houts. The only thing you should watch out for is the final because although it basically formatted the same way as a regular exam it's comprehensive. I thought I knew the old material pretty well and paid the price by having my grade drop from an A to a B. Just study well for the final.
She's a sweetheart but don't be fooled...some of the concepts in this course are hard to grasp. Most of it is easy and rack up points in the beginning!
Take Houts and don't miss any classes and you will pass. She lays it all out in front of you and only tests you on what she teaches. The only way you won't pass her class is if you don't bother to study at all. It isn't hard to get an A in this class.
She is a great teacher. Love to teach, will spend time with you if you ask questions. She is the best professor I had in Fresno State for bachelors degree.
Houts is an awesome teacher! She is always willing to help and do her part. The class is extremely difficult. Make sure to attend and do a few of the practice problems. Those will really help.
Class is pretty straight forward and very structured and well organized. Must attend every class to keep up with the work and to do good on the tests. Otherwise Great teacher.
Excellent professor. She is super sweet and willing to help in any way possible. However, class is difficult with a comprehensive final. If you attend every class and complete all assignments you will do well. I recommend Houts over all of the other 124 professors.
She is exactly the kind of teacher i have always wanted for every math class. Doesn't assume you should know everything and actually cares about you learning by doing literally everything in her power so that you are not confused.
Tough course in general but she is a very good person to teach it. The tests are brutal, but if you prepare for them you wont have much trouble. Cumulative final. Frequent quizzes and case study reports. Rack up the points on those and do the best you can on the tests.
TB is not needed. No need to read or do hmwk, study for the damn quizzes, although theyre annoying, you will need the points. Final was hard, so start studying and reviewing before dead days, do no underestimate the concept part of exam. She did lecture very fast and chooses on students to answer questions. Plant tour was okay. :0)
Professor Houts is an excellent teacher. This course is difficult and Professor Houts is willing to help and wants you to succeed. Attend all classes and prepare for the quizzes. STUDY STUDY STUDY the study guides for the tests.
Professor Houts is one of the best professors I have experienced so far in college. She is tough but fair, and I have learned a lot. I feel as though I am very prepared for MGMT 124. Pay attention and take careful notes during the lecture, read the book, and learn key terms and how they apply and you will get an A.
Very good option to take her for MGT124. She is very friendly and approachable (won't make you feel dumb if you don' t know something). Tough in her grading and will make you work for it! Don't be afraid to speak up in her class, it helps everyone as a whole.
Her class is very hard if you're not super sharp and good at memorizing both math and key terms and concepts forget about it. Only thing that matters in this class are exam grades be prepared to work extremely hard. Although she is very nice
very nice teacher and always willing to help if you ask her. She makes a complicated class a lot simpler. she is very good at explaining concepts and mathematical management techniques.
Houts is very organized and helpful. She teaches the math components well -- however the conceptual questions on exams are enough to break your test scores and ruin your grade. Also, don't be late -- quizzes are literally given the first two minutes of class. You'll learn a lot, but do be careful to adequately prepare yourself for exams.
She is an awesome teacher. She is completely fair with grading, and she does not give leeway. She makes it clear that there are no make ups. I did not use the book and relied on quizlet and notes for studying concepts. Be sure to be on time (quizzes are usually in the first 5 mins of class and she starts on the dot!) Do review packets for exams.
best teacher ever, especially for a hard subject.
Wow! Awesome professsor. She must really love what she does.
Great teacher, respected by the students.
Professor Houts doesn't trust her students at all, and it was particularly uncomfortable especially during exams as it was hard for me to concentrate. Second, I didn't like that she brought her religious beliefs at the beginning of the semester. Otherwise, I think she is very knowledgable and an excellent instructor.
Professor Houts is a great professor. I really enjoyed taking her class.
Aside from her religious beliefs and lack of science belief, she is a great professor for management. This class is mainly math oriented so don't expect it to be like 110. She's fast at grading assignments and very helpful. She is great at explaining the material. Final is cumulative, my advise is study past material throughout the semester.
Prof. Houts is a great instructor. I would strongly recommend for anyone taking management
Professor Houts is very intelligent. She has a passion for Management. This class requires a lot of paying attention, taking notes and studying hard. Her grading scale is tough and tests are also hard.
Solid teacher, pretty clear grading criteria and follows it
I took this class over the summer and it was well worth it. She is a great professor, but I couldn't imagine being in her class for an entire semester. Tests are not easy and studying is crucial. Be ready to do a lot of math somewhat similar to DS 123.
Dont skip class and take good notes especially on the concept
explains everything step by step
Took her once a week class on Fridays which was extremely tough! Rushes through lectures and doesn't help prepare you for tests (other than the math packets she gives which every instructor gives out). Exams are really difficult! Take with someone else.
This class is tough, prepare 2 spend time out side of class practicing. But definitely best teacher to teach the course. I hated her article quizes they still haunt me. Stay on top of everything, practice and go to her office if you dont understand something right away. Extremely easy 2 pass and just as easy to fail. Gives plenty of extra credit.
Ive heard from many people how hard MGT124 is, however, after taking it with Lisa Houts (Spencer), it is honestly a fairly simple class. She is very kind and explains both the concepts and math very clearly. She also gives enough time to copy every slide in class so show up everyday, copy her slides word for word and thats all you will need!
Lisa is an okay teacher, the class is just overwhelming with equations. The tests and quizzes are hard and extremely detail oriented. If you don't get the problems and equations like the back of your hand, you will slip up on the test. I didn't really think Lisa was good at knowing whether or not the people in the class understood the material.
Take with someone else! Learned my lesson with 4 hour classes!
Shes nice but she makes the course way harder than it has to be. Be ready to memorize 5+ page articles word for word if you want to do well on quizzes that are only 5-6 questions worth 20 pts (questions are verbally given and she words them funky sometimes confusing). Shes really specific too on both exams and quizzes.
Sat in her summer class and was scared because most of the students were repeating class. However, I was unable to add the class during the summer, but I eventually took it during the fall semester. The class is difficult. Make sure to stay on top of everything. She gives good notes and reviews the concepts and math thoroughly. Pay attention.
Dr. Spencer is by far the best instructor I've had thus far at Fresno State. It's a hard class but she's a great instructor and makes the material easy to understand. She cares about her students. Despite having to take the class via zoom do to the COVID-19 she did an amazing job. Highly recommend students to take her class.
Very vague on explaining assignments, reached out to her but wasn't very helpful. Was Rude in her email replies. Very particular on what she wants on Hw if you don't have exactly what she wants will reduce points.
I don't know what all the hype is about, in regard to this class being so hard. It was definitely easier than DS 123. All in all, Mrs Spencer is a great teacher who explains the math in a very comprehensible way. Make sure you practice the math well in advance of test. The only thing really hard about the tests are the concept questions.
Will take points off on exams if you don't show work even if you get the correct answer. Very particular on what she wants for answers on assignments. Would definitely not take again.
hard to get a hold of, takes a long time to get back to you. Takes points off tests for guessing even if you get the correct answer
Mrs Spencers 124 class wasnt easy but she was definitely the best option to choose from when picking a professor. She responds to her emails really fast and gives good feedback on texts and quizzes. I would recommend taking it with her if you are able to
I really enjoyed taking Prof Spencers MGT124 class. It was a weird change shifting all to online but I thought she did a really good job and kept it consistent and enjoyable throughout the semester
Overall a good experience in this class. Thought she did a fair job grading lots of people complain about the readings but theyre not that hard and quizzes are easy if you actually did the reading
You dont use the textbook but she makes you buy it for the online homework. In person quizzes with no multiple choice and no extra credit opportunities. Very tough tests you will need to study very hard to pass & attendance is MANDATORY. Condescending tone in lectures and no dropping lowest exam score. Pick literally any other class. Save yourself
Professor Spencer's style of teaching is old and outdated. Laptops aren't allowed in class. Most math problems can easily be solved with Excel. Her grading methods regarding quizzes reward memorization of trivial facts rather than holistic comprehension of assigned article readings - which is what employers prefer. Avoid her class if you can.
Not a great professor, doesn't allow scientific calculators on tests and you have to show work to get credit on the exam. Study guide is not helpful and there is a quiz almost every week, non-multiple choice and you have to memorize the article. Avoid her if you can, the most stressful class I've ever taken.
1. She doesn't let students access her ppt slides for studying. 2. She doesn't have any exam review days and instead offers practice problems that are not helpful because she does not show you how she got her answers. So what good does seeing answers do? 3. Condenscedning tone. 4. Pointless case quizzes and she grades SUPER HARD for no reason. HELP
I am very disappointed with how this professor taught this management class. The pase that she teaches sets you up for failure. The reading based quizzes are almost not based on the main points of the reading. I do not recommend her, if you do good luck.
Make's the class way harder then it needs to be. Doesn't share power points with students.
Professor Spencer is not only a great person but also a great professor. Her class is fairly simple if you don't miss any lectures. Everything in her power points and handout material will be on the tests, so there are no surprises. She refers to the textbook a lot during lectures but it is not needed. She responds to emails fast as-well
Not to be exaggerating but she is the worst professor I have ever taken at Fresno State. Her grading is tough if it's not worded how she wants. She jumps from one chapter to another and then comes back and then leaves and you don't have enough time to even copy the slide. The exams are pretty easy but I would just avoid this professor.
Exams are similar to the study guides. She is a strict grader. She'll answer any questions you have during lectures. I got an A from studying hard and taking good notes. A lot of people didn't like her but honestly my experience was not too bad, if you can pay attention during lectures and put time in for studying, you will do fine.
She gives extra credit, but it does nothing to your grade percentage. You have to handwrite a weekly case on paper. Don't buy the book! Just study her practice exam guides and they're the same on the exam, just different numbers. You need to work hard, if not you will fail. Some classes you can pass without studying, not this one. I"ll fail class.
The tests are very math-heavy despite the lecture not being the focus in class. Her case studies all have to be handwritten. She is an outdated professor who needs to update her lectures and use of technology. One of the worst, if not the worst, professors I have taken. Would not recommend it. If you take it expect to be teaching yourself the math.
If you can avoid her that is all I have to say because she will not clarify anything if other students are working on the same assignment. You will have to wait and receive the grade you got then she explains why. The thing that would frustrate me the most would be her jumping from chapter to chapter. Her classrooms are cold so take a jacket.
Horribly outdated teacher. Handwritten quizzes every single lecture on useless McDonald's articles. Questions are based on memorizing trivial numbers and have nothing to do with operational concepts. Wants the exact verbiage from the article or she will mark you incorrect even if you used a synonym. Refuses to upload PowerPoints on Canvas.
People make her class seem harder then it is! Spencer holds you by the hand and explains everything in very simple terms. The course material is thus extremely easy and the homework never takes more then 20 minutes to complete. She provides helpful practice problems to study (which are optional to do). She's easy to reach and very approachable.
Prof Spencer is a great instructor. MGT 124 is a hard class but she makes it very doable. Don't skip class and you will be just fine. If you attend classes and put in moderate effort it is very doable, and she is always available during office hours if you need additional assistance.
Spencer was a good professor however if you are late to class or miss class, don't bother taking her. Every class had a quiz on a 3ish page article. Points added up. Exams were fair but attendance is mandatory.
The professor is okay. This class is super hard, exams in person no notes. She also has articles to read before attending every class to do a quiz for. You also have to actually read the book. Be prepared to give this class all your time and still not understand. But if you like math should be light. But a lot of concepts to learn.
Mrs. Spencer is a great teacher and cares about her students. The weekly quizes on article can be frustrating and difficult but she gives you opportunities at the end of the semester to make up the points that you may have missed. Tests arent too bad as long as you study. You will need the book for the online homework
Mrs. Spencer is such a sweet lady and really wants you to succeed! She has made her exams easier from previous semester feedback and honestly isn't a lot of work. Exams are not bad at all and exactly like the homework!! Understand the homework and you will easily pass the class. She also goes over the homework in class too, so not much work at all.
90% of the work Spencer gives is busy work, this is an upper division class and I can not for the life of me understand why she gives so much pointless homework, class assignments, in class quizzes. The class is a total waste of time and everyone takes it because you need it for credit. One of the most useless classes I have taken, that says a lot.
Spencer is a nice lady. She gives handouts for every chapter and we have a quiz everyday of class. Beware the second exam she tested us on 7 chapters!! Yes, it was seven chapters!! The homework is usually 1-2 questions and only one attempt, if you forget to round your answers you will get it wrong. She will not give you credit. Good Luck!
Pick her for MGT124, you're doing yourself a favor. Everything she does is to help you understand the material (ie. article quizzes). She doesn't allow laptops, everything is on paper (notes, exams, quizzes). Study the hw and practice problems to pass + there's extra credit. She is so sweet and the math is easy especially when doing it by hand!
Professor Spencer is an understanding and sweet lady. She can be picky about being on time to class when there are quizzes or not being able to use laptops in class. The math is pretty straight forward if you attend lectures and study. I believe my grade would've been better if I dedicated more time to this class as I was taking 18 units. Take her
If you like or dislike this class, it will highly depend on what your learning style is. I truly didn't find the class to be that difficult. Important points: study the math portions for the exam, & study 30 minutes before the article quizzes. Overall, the class is not too hard & she's a great professor, but there are challenging areas (quiz & HW).
Sweet professor who made this class interesting. There are A LOT of quizzes but they are not difficult (I read the articles an hour or two before class). The homework is only allowed 1 try so make sure you follow her "recipe" she gives on the first day of class. She is strict on attendance! So if you are habitually late, you might not like her.
DO NOT TAKE HER, NO CHEAT CHEAT FOR EXAM, QUIZZES EVERY CLASS WRITTEN NO A,B,C, ALSO READINGS EVERY DAY.
Always bring your journal and be on time! Or you will be docked a lot of points. Lectures are great for visual learners. This semester was the first she did not assign hw. no phones or laptops used in class. At the end of the semester, you can retake one of the exams after you take the final. Don't be lazy, ask for help, and you will pass easily.
