This is a difficult course with a ton of work and absolutely worth every second of it. Lisa is a fabulous instructor. The amount of knowledge you will leave this class with is extraordinary. You will work for it, and you will work hard but she is absolutely amazing. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !

I enjoyed this class. She is super passionate about art, so she can get carried but it's still interesting. THERE IS NO HOMEWORK, JUST LECTURES. I recommend to take this class if you need credits for history. There will be a midterm, which she gives you a study guide for and goes over it, a museum scavenger hunt and a final. No book, SO TAKE NOTES!

I loved this class. Make sure to take lots of notes! There are 3 assignments, the midterm, museum scavenger hunt and then the final. In the first half of the term, we talked about how to look and identify painting, mostly European ones (was is abstract, expressionism, realism?) and in the second half we talked about sculptures and Greek/Roman art.

Lisa is the most passionate professor I've ever met. Her lectures require a lot of note taking, but it is never hard to miss what is important. Shes a tough grader on the mid-term and final because they are essays, but as long as you follow the study guides you will be fine. There is also a museum trip that will take 2-3 hrs so make time for that.

Lisa is an amazing teacher and you will learn a lot. You are graded on 3 things, 2 of which are tests. YOU MUST TAKE NOTES ON EVERYTHING! Tests are handwritten essays covering several topics, and you need to write as much as you can. Notes will help you study, as she is not on Canvas or anything. TAKE NOTES and ATTEND CLASS and you will do well :)

Lisa almost singlehandedly inspired my career in academic history. "Art History: Medieval through Renaissance" was my first college course, and by the end of the first lecture I was hooked. A fun, inspirational instructor. She has high but reasonable expectations, so do your best. I know many other former students of hers and they always love her.

Staley is a very enthusiastic professor who explains the lectures deeply. I would have enjoyed her class more if she wasn't tardy with grading and slow in putting up online lectures. I think she was busy, but it frustrated me. If you will have a lot of time, take this class, by all means! But if you are going to be busy, don't.

While she is nice, its very hard to follow along in her lectures. Wed have 1 discussion every week and wed have to answer 5-8 questions and listen to 2 hours of lectures to answer them. For one question, shed explain the answer for 15 minutes and Id be confused as to what to write down. Shed also go off topic a lot which increased hw time.

Lisa is one of the sweetest ladies, her lectures draw in your attention BUT her class is not organized. Lisa is very nice but very disorganized. She is willing to meet outside of class which is great but she only grades of 4 things. She posts the tests in advance so you know exactly what to study it is just a lot to remember so if you struggle with memorization it may be hard to pass with an A. I recommend Lisa as a art teacher.

Don't take this class unless you are genuinely interested in the history of art.. It's lectures that have 5-8 questions (basically a small essay each week). There are no rubrics and she is not clear about what she is deducting points for. There are 2-4 lectures each week and they are anywhere from 30-60 minutes each.

I took Professor Staley's Art Appreciation class, and it was actually really interesting! This class is poorly organized and WAY too much work for a 3 credit Art Appreciation course. Tedious class with 3+ hours of lecture/week, 4-5 assignments due in the first few days, etc. The work isnt complicated, but the organization is. Every very time an assignment was put out, I (an English major) had to read it several times to understand.
