I do not know what the deal is with the previous comments but Lisa Stokes is an excellent teacher! I learned so much in her class! She is a little strict & bitter at times but she is VERY fair and goes out of her way to teach. Class was not hard at all!

This professor spent the class time complaining about how she does not like the Video learning format and making sure that she was the center of attention and a Doctor. Learning can only be credited to the other students and not the instructor.

Lisa Stokes, excellent teacher who really is excited about teaching. Uses many different sources to teach like the internet, computer, projector, DVD player & much more. Most teachers don’t even know how to use those things!

she is a good teacher if your willing to keep an open mind and are read to work. I learned alot from the assigments. Have to have internet. Alot of writing, but the test are easy if you read and study. Eye opening class, but strict about being on time.

Dr.Stokes is a very fair and clear professor. She is understanding and very commited to teachng at a standard to prepare each student to have a strong educational background. I rate her as one of the best in the field of education.

If you are willing to do hard work and appriciate hard work then take this class.Her material may seem like Greek at first, but if you stick with it and just let it sink in you walk a way with a greater understanding than you ever thought you could have.

Dr.Stokes helps any student that wants help. She supports her students and is very fair. Disapline is a part of life.

A great class! Many interesting topics, I really loved this humanities class & its topics, & thats coming from a person who isnt into humanities. She has strict policies, but of course, this is college, what do you expect. **Overall A+ course & teacher!!

I loved this course - it truly opened my mind to the humanities. I recommend tacking HUM2251, very interesting topics. I did well in the course and learned about a period in humanities that I still am interested in today and still reading and learning about.........Great Class - AAA+++

Lisa Stokes is a hateful woman. Her class is extremely difficult, but you can learn a lot from that lady. Don't go in there for tea and crumpets, cause she will fail you without batting an eye. Go into this class as a sponge. LEARN. If you don't want it, you won't get it.

Dr. Stokes was a great teacher. She provided the class with insight about the films and kept office hours posted, so she was always willing to help. May come off as intimidating, but that's just because she knows her stuff. I never knew that was a bad thing? Recommended, only if you can handle it.

Dr. Stokes has been the best intstructor I've had for an online course. The course was interesting and she was always helpful on WebCT.

Nothing all semester, then a 15 min presentation at the end. If you know anything about your director, it is filled easily. It was a nice way to kill a monday night, but I waited until the last 2 weeks to begin working on my presetation, and probably took 5 years off my life.

Great! I loved the material that she presented in class. She was really organized & I was always able to get in contact w/ her. She is somewhat of a strict teacher, but of course this is college! If you do what she asks for you to do in the syllabus, you will do well in her class. If students complain about her, they're usually the the lazy types!

Dr. Stokes was a great professor. You could tell from her lectures how interested she was in the material. The class is very rewarding if you do the work and don't wait until the last minute. I also learened about many directors I'd never heard of before.

Very organized...tells you up front what is expected. If you don't do well in her class, it's only because you are lazy. Do the homework, study for the exams, and you will be fine. She is pretty strict but she knows her stuff incredibly well. She has worked hard to get where she is...respect that! Overall, this was a great class!

Online class was straightforward, clear and extremely rewarding. The material covers some of the greatest contributions to the arts in the history of mankind. Give her the effort and you will be more than compensated , not only with a good grade, but even more importantly, with a rich and lasting learning experience.

Dr. Stokes isn't for everyone. She knows exactly what she wants, but often has a difficult time communicating this to students. However, if you listen closely and aren't an idiot, you'll get along with her fine. The classes are not cake-walks, but you actually LEARN something if you pay attention. I enjoyed my class very much.

One of the hardest classes I have taken. Took it online summer A. A lot of work, but I loved the class. She loves what she teaches. She is strict and a little arrogant.

She's alright. She talks through the movies and points out obvious stuff. I think it'd be better to watch the movie and then go over the notes afterwards. It's a simple class but all the assignments and reading you do doesn't go towards your final grade. Good luck.

Great Teacher. Dont take this clss if u r late, dont show up, etc. only take if u r willing to work & contribute to discussions. She is very helpful, sometimes its better to ask q's online (better response)than in the clssroom. very interesting material. she is very knowledgeable about what she teaches & keeps up on subject material & current event

HONESTLY, she won't win Miss Warm & Fuzzy USA. BUT! U know what to expect everyday from day 1, gotta love that. Not a lot of work, 1 HW a week. She will work with u. EMAIL HER AND TALK TO HER! She DOES care... just can't tell sometimes:) I would definitely take a class with her again.

I took the online course a lot of writing and weekly assignments very interesting class. If you do not like to think and check out information and really read the chapters then this class is not for you. The teacher is very in-depth in her teacher must be extremely in depth in your writings. Graded on writings and mid and final exams. Good Teacher!

I dont know why certain students made negative remarks about her. I found her to be one of my more better teachers at SCC. She put in a lot of dedication & effort to teach the students. I also found the class to be very interesting & I enjoyed the class very much! She may be strict at times, but she is very organized and explains topics in detail.

I highly recommended taking any class offered by Dr. Stokes. She is very fair. Make sure you do all your home work or internet assignments and try on the exams and you will be fine. She is so good I am taking another class from her next semester.

Dr. Stokes is a very good professor, one of my favorites. She was intimidating at first, probably due to her standards for organization. One of my favorite classes at SCC. I hope to take another class with her before I graduate.

This class will make you watch movies in a whole new way. If you want to just watch movies this class is not for you. If you want to learn about cinema this class is for you. Dr. Stokes is one of my favorite professors. This is the 2nd class I have taken from her. You must do your homework and any other work or exams. I highly recommend Dr. Stokes.

The A I recieved from Dr stokes meant more to me than some professors who just hand out As to everyone. She is pretty strict and cold but if you work hard you will be fine.

The best word to describe Dr. Stokes is misunderstood. She has extensive knowledge and a real passion for her field and for teaching. Unfortunately, she comes across as somewhat pretentious and very unfair. She stirs up emotion wherever she goes. I recommend Dr. Stokes if you already have a fascination with the subject - if not, steer clear.

I took her online class. I felt good with her. Her essays were easy, but the exams are killer! Some things on the exam I never saw until I was taking it. If you have self motivation to do all the essays and can study a lot, then you should be fine.

This is one of the best teacher I have had in a while. Her classes are interesting and she is very smart. She has never been arrogant or rude to any of the students in my class nor mentioned having a Phd. She is friendly and willing to help there is very little homework, but you have to want the grade because everything is based off your notebook.

I took this class over summer term A. Not hard but time consuming. Do NOT take this class if you have trouble writing papers or with grammar. Consists of 6 papers, a mid-term & final. Exams are 50 questions, 1 at a time, 2 hrs. Papers & exams hold same weight for your grade, cumulative grade on papers. Not bad if you can text & write papers well.

Took online. Great class-assignments were available for working ahead-a true online course. READ SYLLABUS THOROUGHLY; your questions will be answered. A lot of reading and writing (your skill level will improve). Must know MLA format. Always available for help. Would take again.

I thought she was super easy online. Didnt require a lot of work, and the mid term and final had all the answers in chapter reviews, so all I had to do was Control F and find the answers. Not heavy reading either. She does demand that you know and understand her rules, but grammar and writing was not an issue for me. Easiest class of the semester.

Very informed and clear on course objectives and instructions. Learned a good deal and enjoyed the International Cinema class. Had her for Latin American HUM a while back and enjoyed that as well. Definitely a favorite professor.

I'm an Elementary Education major so disregard what someone said about having to be an art major to appreciate this class. Yes, the tests are super hard and some answers are extremely difficult to find in the books. Just use the study guides to pass the tests and read the rubric for the papers. Got A's on my papers and passed the midterm so far.

She is a fantastic educator. I have taken 2 classes with her both online and they have been some of the best courses i have taken so far. She is very quick to get back to you if you have any questions, she might seem strict but i would consider it professional, but not cold. She provides so much information for you beyond the text, She is amazing!

Dr.Stokes is an okay professor, I took a 6 week class.she laid out the rules ahead of time. Grades tough, and does not answer questions if she feel they've already been answered in the syllabus even if you don't understand.

Dr. Stokes is an intelligent professor, which is sadly rare. The class is hard if you do not try. PAY ATTENTION, she will not hold your hand. I took her class about 10 years ago and I have not had a better professor. I wish I could meet her now, 10 years later, after attaining a significantly higher education, and discuss ideas with her.

I had Lisa Stokes for HUM2590 (20th and 21st Century Humanities & Technology) back sometime between 2000 & 2003. I just truly loved the course itself, the material and having her as a teacher!!! One of the few courses that I loved taking at Seminole CC and one of the few that I actually still cared to remember!!! Great course & professor!!!

Had her for Latin American Hum in the 90s; Foreign Cinema last year! Responds massively and favorably to you if you show genuine interest and display extra interest. Not brown-nosing... real interest. She's doesn't go out of her way to make you interested, but if you are and you do the work it's a cake A. Gotta read on your own.

Hard class, but not unreasonably so. Provides all materials needed and is very clear about expectations.

I loved this online class! You have to be genuinely interested in the subject to actually do well and not feel like its a major chore. Her assignments (20 questions) for the chapters take a ridiculously long time to complete if you're doing a good job, but you only have 4 assignments and 2 tests. Both categories are weighted 50%. Super easy.

I don't know why a lot of people are giving Professor Stokes a bad rating. I just got a 24/25 on my writing assignment... I think you just have to the work and follow directions, otherwise you will not succeed in her class...

I still do not understand why everyone is rating Professor Stokes so low. I think everyone here is still stick in that "high school" mentality. I found her class very very very doable. You must write her paper assignment using college level vocabulary, and you must also use standard English. I like her very much, she is wonderful. :)

I mean I didn't even have to work awfully hard; all I did was follower her directions, read all her rubrics and grading criteria, and watch the movies and use the textbook to answer questions. I think you must brush up on your writing usage and vocabulary to get a decent grade in Professor Stokes class. She isn't a touch grader at all!
