Easy grader. Good pace. Her explanations are easy to follow. Works problems until everybody understands. Is a genuine, bright professor. Her on the fly examples usually are painful, but the point is eventually taken. If you need College Chem, this is probably the least painful way to get it. Need to study about two hours at home per week is all.
Dr. Struck is an awesome professor. She seems genuinely interested in teaching and will work problems until everyone understands, or stops asking questions. She will even help you outside of her normal office hours. There isn't much more I would ask for in a professor. I would take her for CHM1046 but she isn't teaching it next semester.
Her class is tough especially if science is not your best subject, but Dr. Struck is definitely willing to help you if you ask. She has a GREAT attitude and never makes you feel stupid, but you have to STUDY!!! I made a C
Dr. Struck is a really cool person and her background for Chemistry is probably just enough to be a good teacher. She is only around 28 years old so she can realate to the students. She loves to windsurf and used to build computer chips... If you are not too sure about Chemistry and if you are going to have to take Teets for more, take Struck!!!
Dr. Struck is a new instructor who needs more direction with teaching from the other Science instructors. She seemed overwhelmed at times. She did not follow her syllabus. She would teach lots of new information before she tested on the old information. That is one of the worst things an instructor can do.
She is a wonderful professor. She explains everything well and works plenty of examples. She tells you specifically what you need to memorize for each test. If you do the required memorization and all the homework, you should do great on the tests. I'll be taking her again for Chem II.
Dr Struck is a great teacher. She will help you in anyway she can. However, her class is tough and she tends to run out of time mid-term and goes fast. Best bet is to really get the basics at the beginning of the class. Oh...and try to attend the extra credit seminars!
I have her for chem 2 and had her for chem 1 and must say, if you have a job, quit it now because this class takes an ungodly amount of study time to do remotely well. she's a very nice lady, just there's alot of difficult material to cover and tons of notes. if yo have a life, don't take this class!
Not an easy course. The material wasn't too bad, but there was so much of it. Tests are 85% of your grade, and our class average was 70% for every single one. She seemed to make you feel dumb for asking questions, and wasn't very approachable outside of class. Be prepared to study a LOT, and probably still not get the grades you are looking for.
Dr. Struck, Make sure you call her that is okay. She seemed a little lost sometimes. She is tough, she doesnt mind you asking her questions, but not reall helpful. Do the extra credit!!!. Alot of material to learn. She gives examples but to me it left the homework alittle hard to do. Labs are okay, but she really dont like helping you with them.
Explains everything so you can understand it. Makes the formulas easy to complete. Good instructor would take again.
Dr. Struck is not helpful at all!! I had questions on the homework, but everytime I asked her a question, she didn't want to help me. If you can't do the homework, you can't do well on the tests. Dr. Teets is even worse. If you need Chemistry, take it at a school other than NWFSC!!!!!
Tough teacher, doesn't like to help with homework or labs. a lot of questions on the tests were never covered in lecture, homework, or practice tests. plenty of extra credit opportunities. really nice lady, just not a very good teacher.
tough teacher. doesn't like to answer questions on the homework or labs. a lot of questions on the tests were never covered in lecture, homework, or on the practice tests. lots of extra credit opportunities. really nice lady, just not a good teacher.
Dr. Struck is one of the worst teachers i have ever had. all she does is write notes on the board and you copy them down. she assigns online hw that never makes sense because she never goes over anything. not helpful. never wanted to answer questions. way to much time and work in this class.
Dr. Struck is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, positive and fair. Everything that was on the tests and quizzes was covered in the classroom, the text or in the handouts. She is willing to listen and admits when she has made a mistake, which aren't the most common traits of the instructors I've had. I recommend Dr. Struck to anyone looking to learn.
great teacher. very enthusiastic. the textbook is horrible.
Very hard teacher. She tries to teach the material but your gonna need some help. The homework she assigns is some of the worst I've ever had in a class and takes usually 3-7hours to complete one section of it. Unless you've taken Chemistry before I would'nt recomened her. Her only answer she gives to questions you ask her is Just look in your book
Her class takes all your time. Assign hw online which is suck! Her note and hw are two totally different thing. U gotta study on your own a lot. Explain certain things but not very helpful,so dont bother to ask her question. Helpless!!!
This class is the most work I have ever done in one class. Be prepared to spend hours on your graded homework online, usually around 100 problems each chapter. Completely different than her lectures. Her grading is ridiculous. I honestly think her goal is to see you fail. She's not helpful and doesn't answer email. Her response. Read the book.
Chemistry is not an easy subject however Dr. Struck is very clear on what she expects out of students. Yes the hw is hard and long but this class is mandatory for some programs. DO THE HW! It makes a big difference. Study the studyguide and you will do fine.
Dr. Struck isn't the problem, it's the subject. She does several example problems for several class days, and always goes into detail when a student doesn't understand. If you find a mistake in the homework or the example she is more than happy to fix it.
Very nice and extremely helpful. You need to ask her questions, because that will help you and your grade. Wasn't easy, Thomin is easier I think cuz his practice tests are exactly like the tests. Struck gives you a study guide. Overall not easy but extremely helpful
She is a very good teacher, I think however, she uses her notes too much teaching her class. she does do a good job explaining. A great teacher!!!
Dont even take. She's good at explaining but the last test and final made my grade drop 10 whole points. I now have to retake these at another University because it brought my GPA down so much. Save yourself
The class was easy for me because I had a strong chemistry background but there is quite a bit of online homework that would take a long time if you were new to the subject. She is the most annoying teacher when it comes to grading though, takes off as much little points as she can and I'm not exaggerating.
Tough class, but this was the first technical class I had taken in 7 years. If you pay attention, do the homework, and study the practice exams that she gives you (and do extra credit) there is no reason you shouldn't come out of the class with at least a B.
Struck is good at teaching what she does in class, but assigns homework and test questions that were never taught in class. She also goes chapters past the test that is currently being taken which confuses many students. Can be very rude and just tells you to look in the book if you have questions.
she is horrible save your self and don't take this class.
Dr. Struck is pretty good teacher. She definitely knows her stuff, but some things can be confusing the way she explains. Studying for at least an hour a day would be good. Tests are rough, but her study guides match up nearly perfectly. She gives tons of partial credit too. Bottom line: study, take notes, ask questions, and you'll you get an A.
Dr Struck is very good at explaining things; I definitely feel like I learned the subject well. Her homework doesn't line up well with her tests or lecture but you need to do it to do well. Her practice tests do line up with the test but she is a really tough grader - everything has to be exactly how she wants it, no exceptions.
Decent. Her material is very hard. But she makes Chemistry a lot easier to understand. My only problem with her is that she gives out a ton of homework, and she is a really TOUGH grader. Seems like any little mistake you do, she'll hunt it down and knock off a point.
Dr. Struck is a great instructor. She knows her material and how to teach it. It's clear and concise. Her homework is down right ridiculous and irrelevant to her lectures and test. She grades like and OCD person off their meds. Nothing can be wrong or off by a bit, or say good buy to all your points. Her labs are great and very chill. NOmakeuptest
She is very nice and always asks the class if they have any questions. I think a lot of the people who have rated her don't make good grades to begin with, but if you make good grades, you'll continue to make good grades in this class. She gives study guides and practice tests that are A LOT like the real tests.
Dr. Struck is probably one of the most enthusiastic professors I've ever had. She does write a lot of notes on the board and there is a good amount of homework, but it all pays off. She wants to see students pass and she is always there to answer questions. The material is complicated but she teaches it very well.
Dr. Struck makes chemistry not even remotely enjoyable. It is nearly impossible to get A's on her tests because she will take points for every little thing even if you get the problems right. I received an A in the class but will definitely never be taking her again! I would highly suggest taking someone else for chemistry.
The number one complaint i have about Lisa is that she is the pickiest grader i have ever had. She is good at teaching and helps in every way that she can. While taking this class however I would study and understand the material but when it came to the tests I would get a horrible grade because of her picky grading.
I loved having Dr. Struck as my professor. She may be "picky" about grading, but is EXTREMELY generous with extra credit. She wants to see you succeed & almost begs you to show your work so she can give extra credit. Being lazy with your calculations or putting wrong answers doesn't cut it in the real world! An A is possible if you put in the work.
Dr. Struck is a great professor. Her lectures are very thorough and she is always available to answer any questions about the material. This class is not an easy "A", but if you are willing to put in the work, you can get a good grade. I feel well prepared for more advanced chemistry courses after taking her class.
Dr. Struck is a good teacher, but Jesus she is a tough grader. She nit picks every single thing and marks off points for it. Prepare for terrible labs and a bunch of homework. I wouldn't take her again.
Dr. Struck is a great teacher. She does assign a lot of online homework but all of the test questions were drawn from the notes. She gives practice tests that are JUST LIKE THE ACTUAL TESTS. If you work on those before the actual exams, you'll make an A. She does grade a bit tough on lab reports and lab quizzes but just pay attention to detail.
Enthusiastic about Chem and enjoys teaching it. Is a little disorganized. Available and helpful during office hours. The 'tough' grading, it's all standard stuff: don't forget your units and watch your sig. figs. She gives partial credit. Homework: If you wait till the last minute it will be heavy. Overall, solid prof and taking her again for 1046.
The online homework takes HOURS to do, and is only worth 10% of the grade. Labs were all confusing and poorly explained, and all of the lectures were agonizing. She barely got through her lesson plans on time. Terrible when it comes to grading, worse when it comes to her schedule. Took 3 big tests in 2 weeks. Would have rated her a 0 if I could.
Tons of online homework, boring, extremely long lectures, poorly organized, consistently late to class, and has incredibly strict grading. Counts off for things like handwriting, and grades inconsistently between students (a friend and I made the same mistake and got different amounts of points taken off). Absolutely would not take again.
Shes the hardest grader Ive ever encountered.
Probably the toughest grader I've had and Im a Senior. She docks points for everything, even if you understand the material she makes in incredible hard to pass test, lab test and labs. She a little scatter brained. She makes labs more confusing then they are. Don't study the book method, if it differs from hers you will get points docked.
The toughest grader that i have had. Grades off heavily on handwriting. Comes to class and is very disorganized. Does not keep a consistent class schedule, every class there is something she rearranges to make up for the time wasted going over irrelevant material. Save your money and find a better teacher.
Dr. Struck cares about chemistry. Her teaching style is interesting and to pass you must actually learn the material. Homework is long, for quizzes she does count off for messy handwriting. In order to pass with a A or B do the review test many times and look at the problems from the lecture. If you're having trouble she is very nice, go to office
Very difficult grader, even on minute things such as handwriting. She lectures very fast, making it confusing when test time comes. Not very good at helping, just tells you to look at lecture notes, which she doesnt even finish sometimes and tells you to do for practice. Homework is stuff we didnt even cover, good luck.
I've never worried about failing a class until I took Dr. Struck's chem class. She is a tough grader when it comes to tests, labs, and lab quizzes (marks off for handwriting). Lectures are long and boring. She goes through material too fast to retain any of the information. The homework is difficult, and there's a lot of it. Take someone else.
She makes the material easy to understand and wants you to pass but will take large amounts of points off even for not dotting your eyes. She did help me in between classes and replied very fast over email. My only complaint would be the tedious grading on things that shouldnt even matter in a Chemistry class
She cares about chemistry and is willing to work with you on your grade. All the practice material you need for tests and lab exams is posted online and as long as you do that you'll easily pass. My two complaints are that if you try and correct her on something she'll make you feel stupid and her labs often need more clarification.
Nice person, horrible teacher. Wasted several classes on useless information like how to read a ruler and significant figures, things that should have taken less than an hour to learn. Harsh grader and hard to understand what she even wants. She also scribbles over the notes to where you can barely read them later. Not worth the struggle.
Lectures the entire time (3 hrs) with only one 10 min break. Very harsh grader. WAY too much homework for 10%, 4-7 hours per assignment. Very disorganized and lectures are confusing. No help during labs (replied with "I don't know" to questions). Does record lessons though, and gives a couple chances for extra credit. Not very helpful.
Lectures are long and tedious, reluctant to give breaks. Grades harshly on handwriting, yet it is difficult to decipher hers. Will constantly make excuses as to why she cannot do certain things. She often does not know the answer to questions, or will make you feel stupid for asking. Very disorganized with labs and tests. Lectures posted online.
She lectures on a few topics the entire class (3hrs) and its something easy to understand but she acts like nobody can understand the material. She is EXTREMELY PICKY when grading. you can have all the right math and work and you wont even receive half credit. She acts likes its a middle school class. This is college!!
I think she means the best, but she's very unorganized which can be frustrating especially when your trying to take notes. Tons of homework and she's hard on grading, even the smallest spelling mistake will get you 0.5 points off. Some study guides are based on the test. I probably wouldn't suggest her.
She spends too much time lecturing the simple things but not enough time on the tougher subjects. she is constantly scribbling everything she says on the lecture notes making them hard to comprehend. She starts a new chapter AND finishes that chapter before you even take the test on the previous chapter. She is the most pickiest grader ive eve seen
Very lecture heavy (3 hours) with one 10 minute break. Spends a lot of time on the simple concepts and leaves you to figure out the harder topics while you are doing your homework. There is an absurd amount of homework. On tests and labs she will mark you off for the smallest thing. Definitely need a good background in chemistry to pass the class
If you arent very good at chemistry or you havent taken any chemistry classes, this class will be very challenging. I recommend taking this class with someone whos more organized and experienced with teaching. The tests are only hard because she takes off points for the smallest things and its not consistent. Very harsh grading. Be cautious.
Lacking organization. Many of her presentation notes are handwritten and look like a 5-year-old wrote them due to the unintelligible scribbles; very unprofessional. Inconsistent grader. Entirely too much HW for only 10%; up to 6 hours per chapter. Slow or sometimes never responds to emails. If you need chemistry, take it at UWF.
She is a very picky grader and will take off points for the smallest mistakes. She is very disorganized and if she falls behind like she did with my class it will be on you to go over all the material yourself. Avoid this class at all costs if you can.
Dr. Struck is very caring and understanding. She takes her time to go over anything you don't understand, is always accessible, and quick to respond. There is a lot of homework, but it prepares you for the test. It is a hard class but if you pay attention in class, she will help you understand and do well.
I had Dr. Struck the semester during covid. She puts tests every weekend, even attempted to put one Thanksgiving week. Tests are hard and she is extremely picky about small things. Classes were 3 hours long twice a week. at least 3 Homework assignments every week plus test. We had to buy a program that we only had to use twice.
Oh boy, where to begin with Ms. Struck... A good starting point is the fact that the estimated total time (estimated by Pearson) that homework takes is around 250 HOURS. Not to mention the class is 3 and a half hours twice a week of dull boring lectures. 70% of the total grade is from tests so studying and attendance is a definite must. DONT TAKE
Professor Struck is very difficult to work with. She is not empatic and seems that she do not care if the students do good in her class. If you take classes with her be prepare to work hard but it may be difficult to get a good grade. She take points for the minimal things.
Professor Struck is the worst professor I ever had so far. It is difficult to work with and is not very empatic with her students. She seems a good person but not a good teacher in my opinion.
I think I enjoyed her more for chem 1 than I did when I took her for chem 2. Chemistry is an overall difficult subject and its a THREE hour class so it makes it even more difficult to pay attention. There is online homework but you have multiple attempts and it is multiple choice. She grades on homework, labs, and chapter tests.
Chem 2 is extremely difficult and she taught it in a very confusing manner. She does partial credits on test but also will take away points for dumb things even if you got the answer correct. And we were really far behind that we had to skipped a couple labs and skipped the last two chapters. I would recommend taking chem 2 somewhere else.
This is a difficult class even if you can learn the material yourself you still have a dilemma . Due to the way she grades test if you don't do them the exact way she teaches you she will mark points of even if you get the answer right. The labs and the homework's are easy but test are what everyone really struggled on.
She is super nit picky about irrelevant details, and takes points off for everything. Wouldn't let me take a test on a different day because I was sick even though I emailed her ahead of time.
I took this class with zero chemistry background. There are many students who hate Dr Struck because of hard grading and tests. Ignore these people - they didnt study. Class is easy if you actually bother studying. ALL EXAMS FOLLOW THE PRACTICE TEST FORMAT. I literally just studied the practice tests, did them 5 times each, and got >90% each test.
Dr. Struck explains the topics really well; she's very thorough, which is super helpful. If you pay attention in class, do the practice tests and questions on Canvas, and rework problems from lecture after class, then you will do great! Struck is definitely the best to take for Chem 1, especially if you plan to take more chem classes later.
I have never had a professor that is more difficult to work with. The lectures are painful. When I ask her questions, she ALWAYS leaves me feeling more confused and overwhelmed. She is extremely disorganized and scatterbrained. She makes me want to cry. Take a different professor for Chemistry.
If you value your education and actually care to learn, this professor is not for you. Dr. Struck is extremely disorganized, hard to get ahold of, takes far too long to return graded work, spends too much time lecturing things that don't matter in the beginning, nitpicks everything, final exam is a standardized test with not nearly enough time
Makes lectures and powerpoints reflect what'll be on test. Took long time to receive graded work(did have a valid excuse). Labs were bleak, lectures would stretch on with no breaks at times. They're not wrong about her being nitpicky about handwriting, but if you understand why she marked it, it was an easy fix. Take this class if you like math
Professor sent from the opposite of heaven. Seemed like an angel in the first day talking about her cats and quilting. But I was soon wrong her grading was crazy. Even if you have the right answers she'll take points off. I have been and still am a straight A student but her class was a nightmare. Do not take at all costs.
Struck is not the worst chemistry professor but not the best. Her lectures and notes while very thorough, are overwhelming and scattered. She stars everything, makes it hard to tell what's actually important. Grading is tough and she is picky about handwriting. I do better when I reread the lecture notes and write down what's actually important.
I highly recommend not taking this professor if you are actually wanting to learn something. She doesn't grade based off of you learning the subject, just whether or not you did it her way. Very disorganized lesson plan, to the point that her lecture notes make no sense. She spends too long on some stuff and rushes through others. Do not recommend.
She is undoubtedly the worst chemistry professor at the college. She dropped me a whole letter grade because " I did not do it her way." She grades extremely harshly and rushes through the material toward the end of the semester. It is hard to learn anything to the point you would be better off taking it at a different college.
Very lecture-heavy. Missing one lecture can put you behind. Lectures after tests. Very particular about writing neatly and often took points off for my "e" looking too similar to "c." Gives study guides, practice tests, and previous lectures in Canvas. Does not use Canvas's grading system; hand-place all grades. Takes forever and is hard to track.
Not as bad as all students make her out to be. Sure the lecture material may be boring at times, but she does a good job of getting through it all before class ends. Tests are very similar to practice tests. It is possible to get an A if you put in the work and pay attention in class.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!! She is a hard grader. We missed a week because of snow and she blamed it on the students that it snowed. She is a hard grader even if you do it her way you cannot get a 100 on anything. She does not believe in successing her students. There is too much bad about her compared to the good I cannot type it all. GOOD LUCK
She is a good person but a horrible teacher. She lectures on the easy stuff for a long time and then has to rush through all the difficult chapters. She grades on handwriting, and everything has to be her way. I am going to take her again because she is a nice person. But this class is anything but easy, and I love chemistry.
Extremely rushed and blamed a missed week because of snow on the students?? Everything was so unorganized and messy that it's impossible to keep up. Also mostly grades on handwriting and whether or not you did it “her way”. Hard to keep up and learn.
Learned a lot and Struck is quirky and passionate. That said, she's stuck in her ways and the pacing was off. We spent way too much time on basic topics like sig figs and reading measurement instruments, then crammed 2-3 chapters per WEEK before the final. Avoid if you can—otherwise, YouTube is your friend. Best of luck to all other victims!
Probably the worst teacher I've ever experienced
Dr. Struck grades you on your handwriting. I have been writing the same since middle school, so unfortunately for her, I am not able to change my hand writing. We are having to watch the last few chapters of lecture online OUTSIDE of her 6 hours of class per week. She has poor time management skills and fails to realize we have other classes.
1. Poor pacing, 3m to cover 11ch, first 2m for 5ch, and last month for 6ch. 2. Extremely nit-picky about notation and doing things "her way," very difficult to earn a 100 3. Hard to follow notes. 4. Course description requires prior basic knowledge of Chemistry, covers basics anyway, causing problem 1 5. kind, knowledgeable about course material.
