worst professor i've ever had. so unorganized, does not know how to teach. her lectures were so confusing.... do not take her
i really enjoyed this class. the material is tough but she does a good job pulling it all together. this course really challenged me, but she helped me to be excited about what i was learning
WORST professor I have EVER had! she never responded to e-mails, her tests are impossible because they are based on her definition of terms. She makes you afraid to ask questions in class because she talks to you as if you are completely stupid and makes remarks like, "Well if you don't know that, I can't help." if you can avoid it do not take her!
She was a little bit unorganized but she knew what her material. She knew exactly what she was talking about and went over the top to make sure we understood. Her tests were fair and she was a very easy grader. Her class was enjoyable and fairly easy. She always responded to my emails and my questions as well as other students.
She is the most unclear, unorganized prof I have taken at St. Joe's. She takes forever to grade assignments, tests, etc. Posts the grades on BB, but right now with only 3 weeks left only one grade has been posted on all students BB page, our 1st quiz and that took her forever too. If u take her, have fun wondering what your grade will be all semes
worst professor @ sjc. she is so unorganized, and alwayss contradicts herself in her lectures, does not respond to emails. She makes you feel stupid if you ask a Q. I highly suggest staying away from this woman, her class was a TERRIBLE experience.
She was not bad at all..she is confusing a bit and the class was really hard but i think she is a cool professor. I had her twice and both times i recieved a fair grade (B and A-). You will live. just smile and be nice! Act like u care.
Very smart professor who is passionate about language. Could be better about posting grades in a prompt manner, but overall good. She was willing to spend office hours to help students write papers. I wold recommend her if students really wanted to learn the content.
took her for a 4 week summer course. I thought she was great. a lot of people complained about the workload, but of course it will seem like more work when its condensed into 4 weeks! students expect the same 3 credits but only want to do 1/2 the work! she stayed after class every day to help students.
Out of my 3 years of college I have never been so unhappy. I feel like she is more concerned about tricking us then actually teaching us. She does not prepare us well for tests or projects. If I wasnt on such a strict schedule to graduat on time I would drop the class and re take it with someone. I am getting nothing of this class.
Ok here is the deal with Tafuro. I had her for the online class and shes really not that bad. She may not grade stuff quick but she gave me all 100s on my papers the last day and I KNOW i didnt deserve that. she is overall pretty east and responded to me in a very fast manner. All you have to do is post very general responses online every week.
i feel that she is the type of teacher who surprises you with your grade, i had no idea how i was going bc she never posted anything but i ended up with an a. i would take her, she is really fine. again she might not respond right away an post assignment late but if you try and just do a minimum of 3 posts a week she will notice/give u a good grade
I like Tafuro. The material is tough, but she knows what she's talking about. She always uses real-life examples and is really interested in helping her students.
A lot of information!!! The midterm is NOT what she says it'll be. She's nice but a little confusing.
Prof Tafuro is very passionate about speech and language. The material is difficult but she presents it in an engaging manner. Definitely read the textbook. She allows a "cheat sheet" during her tests which are very helpful! She assigns 2 projects. Her tests are not the easiest, but if you study and take good notes you will do fine.
Online class. EXTREMELY difficult and VERY time consuming. Her tests are very conceptual, no way to really study, you have to completely understand the information. Her term project was very interesting but took so much time. Overall she's nice but confusing. Hard to get in touch with, often responding after the due date. I wouldn't recommend
Prof. Tafuro is so nice and very intelligent. She is extremely fair - she lets you use a cheat sheet for the midterm and final! She truly cares about her students. You'll learn so much in her class.
She is all over the place. Her classes are boring and she calls on you without raising your hand. You have to type a summary every week on the chapter for homework and the class grades it. There's a presentation you can do it with a partner. It's boring class but she usually lets you out 30 mins early and you get a 10 min break. She's a hard grader and the topics in the textbook are so confusing and she doesn't help clarify it. Take only if you need to
Very sweet, funny, easy going and understanding. Come to class do your work, pay attention, take notes, participate a little. difficult material but she really made it easier in my opinion. I would def take her again, thank you Dr. Tafuro!
I thought professor tafuro was great. The material is very confusing and hard to grasp. However, I think she did a good job explaining everything. She is so nice and funny. As long as you attend class, hand in the assignments, and PARTICIPATE you will do good. MUST buy the textbook!
Worst professor ever. She is all about her students answers being specific and her questions are always so vague. Impossible to study for her tests and don't ask questions because she will make you feel really dumb. She doesn't know if she's coming or going. Avoid her if possible!!
She's really interesting and wants her students to do well! Tries to help you think out of the box. Professor Tafuro goes out of her way to make the class interesting. I would definitely take her again.
Dr. Tafuro is brilliant. yeah she can seem all over the place and sometimes mean but she really does mean well, shes just always overwhelmed. if she likes you she will do everything she can for u, even if you arent her current student. she really knows her stuff and you will learn alot from her.
professor tafuro is a great professor if you really want to learn the field. she is so passionate about what she does and will clarify whatever you need as long as you ask. there is a lot of work and you definitely need the book but if you really want to learn something take her!
She is very unclear and rushes her lectures. She does not give any sort of notes or outline and expects you to listen and she often says, "Just listen and then write later" which doesn't work for me because I forget everything. However, she really wants you to learn the material and she loves the field
Professor Tafuro is very passionate about this field. She really knows her stuff, but this class is A LOT of information so you have to read and know the vocab. Yes, she does allow a "cheat sheet" but you have to know what you're talking about. I like her and she's very helpful but I would never ever ever take her again. Too much stress.
Very disorganized stressful and hard to understand. There's no guidelines so you have to be independent! She answered emails and she's gets when something is misunderstood! If you keep up and answer her questions you're in. If you're not into critical thinking don't take this class. She's a great person, but can get snippy when she's stressed.
She was very organized - the syllabus outlined exactly what each week's discussion was about. The textbook was tough, but she helped clarify with examples and discussion. Take her if you're interested in learning something.
Professor Tafuro is great if you want to go into the field of Speech Pathology. This class is really boring, but she made it clear to understand the material. I would seriously buy and READ the textbook. It's a lot of information but it gets more interesting as the semester goes on.
This class was great if you want to do well. It touches slightly upon some speech pathology stuff, but nothing big. She allows a "cheat sheet" which is really helpful. She's always willing to work with you. If you take her for this class, you won't regret it.
Had her for SPC 218 online - worse decision of my life. s he is very unclear and never directly answers your questions and always responds to any questions you do have after the assignment is due. Makes you feel dumb when you do ask a question and she shoves work down your throat as if you have nothing else to do with your life
Online classes are tough and this one is no different. Professor Tafuro lays out the work from the beginning. no surprises. project is annoying; takes time but i learned alot from it. i met her in her office just about every other week. hope to get an A. take her if you want to learn something
Dr. Tafuro is very knowledgeable in this field. I loved this class, however she normally doesn't teach it, so it seemed like she didn't care too much. She gave outlines pretty much right from the chapter. The language and articulation projects were time consuming but very helpful. If you have the chance, take her!
This was my one of my first online classes, and I really enjoyed it more than the other online class I took this summer. I learned a lot from the discussion boards and from the feedback I got from other students and the professor. And professor Tafuro was really helpful when it came to the final project!
She is very unorganized and scattered. My notes from her classes never made sense. So much work and a lot of projects, her classes stress me out. Takes forever to respond to emails and takes forever to post grades on BB. Her instructions are unclear if you're lucky to get any at all for projects. Some tests are online but are not any easier.
I have her for Normal Language right now & I love it. Yes there's a lot of material but you need to review. She's very easy to talk to. If you take the time to participate & show up, she will help you. I failed her first test & she was nice enough to have me meet w/ her so I can do test corrections. I hope to have her again. The textbook is a must!
I love Professor Tafuro! She is wonderful. You need to read the text book in advance to follow along with her lectures. She allows cheat sheets for her tests which is helpful. Her tests are hard if you don't study or follow along the lectures. She's down to earth & is willing to help you when you need it. I plan on taking her again next semester.
She is nice but all over the place. She can get kind of annoying. She takes critical thinking to a whole new level. Constantly asked "why?" Notes makes no sense. only way to pass: be a teachers pet!
Professor Tafuro has helped me out so much this semester. We even talked over the phone a couple of times when i couldn't make it to campus. The class covers a lot of difficult stuff but she does a good job at explaining it in a way I can understand. She's very understanding when it comes to students personal stuff.
She's wonderful and definitely one of my favorite professors. Her lectures go over a lot of material and you must have the text book to follow along. Whenever I have a problem in her class because I don't understand something, she is more than willing to help me until I get it. Yes she has her moments of being all over the place but don't we all?
Even though i never took anything like this class before it wasn't too hard because I knew what i had to do from the beginning. Professor Tafuro is a fair grader and her tests are fair. She tries to get students involved in class discussion so you should read before going to class. I'd take her again, she knows her stuff.
Prof. Tafuro is the best. She is funny and really made our class fun. I'm usually very afraid to talk in class but she made me feel comfortable. I highly recommend taking her if you want to have fun and actually learn something.
I love Professor Tafuro! She is amazing! I looked forward to going to her class every week. If you take the time to get to know her on a personal level you will like her even more. She is very understanding & will help you anyway she can if you're having issues in class. I am very happy to say that I'm taking two more of her classes next semester.
Professor Tafuro was terrific. I had her when I was at St. Joseph's before and i liked her then and I still like her. The class was tough because it was hybrid- sometimes it was hard to understand the text. I met her in office hours and she explained everything to me. The assignments were a lot so stay organized.
I love Professor Tafuro! She is one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met. I looked forward to going to her class every week. She always helped me out whenever I had difficulty understanding something. Her class had a lot of material to cover so having the textbook is a must. She allows cheat sheets on her tests which is a bonus for us.
SPC225 was perhaps the hardest speech class I've taken so far. It was a lot of reading, but she gave you everything that you needed to know. She's very intelligent and knows what she's talking about. Her midterm and final were online. I believe Dr. Tafuro did an excellent job at teaching this class. Take her if you ever have the time!
If you're not into research then this class is not for you. If you're interested in it and you want to work with her one on one then you're going to like it. She's very helpful with this class. She works with you every step of the way.
The lectures for this class can be long and abstract, but Professor Tafuro makes an effort to explain without simply giving away the answers--she makes you think. Her tests were both online and essay format. If you take good notes, you will be fine.
She will make you think! Great instructor for my sJC class
You can tell she means well, but she doesn't think before she speaks and comes off as really rude. Will literally interrupt you in the middle of presentations to let you know what you did wrong- as if presenting wasn't scary enough. Also very disorganized and takes forever to grade. Definitely would avoid if possible
I personally love this professor. She was very helpful to me and facetimed with me for 25 minutes to help me with an assignment. Every week we had a discussion board question and an exam for that weeks chapter. We had to do a language transcription and an essay about it. SUPER EASY IF YOU ASK FOR HELP. I think she is great at what she does.
Loved this class and Professor Tafuro! The class was so organized. She told us exactly what to read and put discussion questions for each chapter online every week. Exam questions taken from the discussion questions so there were no surprises. She really cares about her students and whether we're learning something. Take her you won't regret it
I love Professor Tafuro! She's my favorite speech teacher! I had her for SPC 218, 225 & 319. Her tests are online & in essay format. If you take the time to get to know her & show her that you're a dedicated student, she will go to bat for you. She always made herself available for me if I needed extra help. I do plan on taking her for clinical.
Professor Tafuro is so knowledgable in her field. You must read the chapters to understand her lectures and continue to do research after because her lectures tend to reach a little above the level you enter at. Overall, her class was challenging but if you proved you were passionate and knowledgable there never was an issue.
You would have to come class pre-pared, pay attention (don't lose focus she will call on you). Stay on her good side and participate because she will grade with an A if you show interest. Lots of group complicated projects but will be worth it.
Professor Tafuro is awesome. I would definitely take her again for other courses if she taught them. Her lectures make you think out of the box. She always made herself available whenever I needed that extra help out of class. If I e-mailed her, she almost immediately got back to me. She's a fair grader. Her assignments & tests are doable.
Great professor! I took this class as an elective and it was a bit challenging because speech is not my major. I went to her office hours and she was so helpful. She even stayed late to help me. I enjoyed her class.
I took language acquisition and a&p of speech and hearing with Dr. Tafuro at Stony Brook and she is amazing. She is so knowledgeable and made class so enjoyable. The summer session made everything super quick and condensed but she is thorough and very helpful. I wouldnt say easy A, but if you put in a little effort, easy A-. Highly recommend.
Very unclear grading criteria. Will not mention certain things when explaining the assignment but when grading will all of a sudden say you didnt do this or didnt add this when it was not mentioned when discussing the assignment. Would not take again!
Tafuro is very knowledgeable & explains each chapter thoroughly. Only problem was that she came off intimidating at times. If you participate and read the chapters you will pass. Just beware her attitude can be harsh at times.
Professor Tafuro is very kind. Her course work can be heavy at times, but she's one of the most passionate professors out there. She cares a lot about feedback, and listens to what her students have to say. Her course work can be difficult at times, but it is not impossible.
Don't take her for summer classes at Stony Brook. My biggest problem with her is that she is oftentimes irresponsible. The week for the online summer class starts on Tuesday, but she does not post anything until Thursday. That screws up my entire week's plan because I do not have work to do on my scheduled study days and need to study at my job.
I took a&p with Dr. Tafuro at Stony Brook she is amazing-- she went out of her way to use the best technology to help with the course. She is so knowledgeable and made class really enjoyable. Highly recommend her
I've had to take her for a few of my speech classes since she is the only professor teaching the classes that are required for speech. Every class I had taken with her, I had major anxiety for the night before. She is rude, makes you feel so dumb and embarrassed that you don't even want to participate. It's hard enough that the content is so dense.
I took her online course and she gave weekly to biweekly announcements reviewing our assignments, and was very clear in her expectations for us. If you do what she asks, you're basically guaranteed an A, and she's good about giving feedback to students, especially positive feedback.
dr tafuro tries to make sure you really understand content. However, she doesnt explain projects or assignments in the most clear manner and comes off intimidating. She called our class shy but its really that we are afraid to say the wrong thing. You can tell she cares, and wants everyone to succeed. Hopefully it prepared me for grad school.
Professor Tafuro was great. I took this course fully online and she still made sure to communicate with the entire class and always explained everything thoroughly. Definitely the best experience I have had with a Professor for an online class. All of her assignments led to me learning new information which is appreciated.
There was not much work done outside of this class and she was a very fair grader. However, she is extremely intimidating and knows it too. She comes off as very unapproachable, but is nicer as the semester goes on. I had major anxiety every week but it was luckily still possible to get a good grade.
she was rude, intimating, never answered emails and if you asked a question she would be mad that you did. i handed in my final paper & she sent me a message through canvas claiming that i didnt hand it in. she told me to email her my paper, so i did. then she said that i didnt hand everything in (which i did) and she gave me a 15/20.
Dr Tafuro is awesome. Shes super passionate about her field and makes it exciting to learn. She made a point to learn everyones names and really cares about her students. Test and project are hard but she helped us through.
This class was not a difficult class because of the assignments, there was only 1 project and 1 essay. However the professor was not respectful to her students. She makes you feel dumb when you ask questions and claims that you do not know what youre doing.
Probably the worst professor Ive had so far. She is so rude and intimating that no one wants to ask a single question!! She got frustrated when I would try to take notes during her lectures. Half of what she told us to study was not on the midterm!! The final is a paper assignment. If you miss any of those last few classes, you likely wont pass.
You either like her or you don't. I was part of the honors program so SPC102H. She was funny but low-key racist. She was harsh on people and their note taking. At times she would not allow anyone to go on their computers and take notes on a lecture which was not beneficial at all. Her grading was very nice and easy.
You either like her or you don't. She always assumes people are texting so you can't even look at your computer or take notes and she stands in the back to stalk what you're doing. She makes everyone participate just for the same things to be repeated. She makes cheesy jokes and you can pretty much talk about whatever you want. Very easy grader.
Bro she is not as bad as everyone makes her out to be. Just be attentive in class and answer questions and you will do well. She's a sweet woman. I've had her for two classes now and you definitely can do well with her as your professor. She's very knowledgeable and will do her best to help you out!!
She is an easy grader with presentations but not for the final and midterm. We had class discussions and were tested on material that we never learned during them. She cuts students off and will call on you after saying she wont. She also doesnt accept differing opinions. Nice person, but not the best professor.
Very long and boring lectures. She can definitely be intimidating and rude at times. She will like you if you participate! The assignments were reasonable. She is understanding that we have other assignments/responsibilities outside of her class. We had one big final project, but she always offered to help. Good luck if you're absent though!!
I have had professor Tafuro 3 times now and she is a good person and is very passionate about what she does but her teaching style is very unorganized. She will talk about the same thing for 3 hours and gets frustrated easily. She calls people out to participate.
If you are a child study major looking for speech classes to fulfill your speech concentration, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I genuinely have never taken a harder class and I am a 4.0 student every semester. She is so hard to understand and tbh t the content is so irrelevant to us. It's all speech path majors. Take something else, I regret it.
Only linguistics class I've ever taken and even though it's tough Professor Tafuro makes it so interesting! She is so easy to talk to and you can tell wants whats best for her students. She even let us decide what type of midterms we wanted to take.
Professor Tafuro is extremely disrespectful. In her normal language development class, she said "anyone who can't speak doesn't deserve a place on this earth". I was absolutely disgusted by this comment. Tafuro simply didn't show up to our 8am 3 hour lecture with no warning or explanation.I dropped her class because of this. NEVER TAKE HER CLASS...
Super disrespectful and rude to her students. Never accessible outside of class and gets frustrated when the class is confused. Be prepared to spend money on lab supplies, and a $50 software (in addition to the textbook!!!) Says our labs are done in class but then makes us do them on our own with no instruction. Very disorganized and stressful!!
Tafuro is a nice person, but I didn't love having her as a professor. It's hard to have a differing opinion in her class. She can come off as rude sometimes. Honestly, it depended on the day. 218 is required for speech majors/concentrations so just get it done and do the assignments. She's an easy grader but that textbook is rough.
This class was super disorganized and stressful. There's 4 problem sets (10-20 pages each) and 4 labs/summaries that are done on your own time. Everything is due 48 hours after class (Sunday night), which took hours to do! She expects everyone to purchase an additional $60 anatomy software, such a waste of money. Stay away!!!
I liked Tafuro for 218. The 8am time was rough and it wasn't always the most interesting stuff but she tried to make it fun. Lots of reading was rough. Midterm and paper. You can tell she really cares about her students.
I took Professor Tafuro for the online winter session and she made it extremely easy to understand and do the assignments. Definitely recommend her for an online course!
Tafuro makes class a lot of fun. We do a ton of activities with each other so we get to talk to each other and make the time pass. Not the easiest stuff to learn about but I got an A on my midterm because I used Tafuro's review sheet and followed her instructions.
she WANTS her students to do well, explains everything in detail, uses the easiest txbk available, always available to help, very understanding about my health problems in the semester and was so helpful, understanding, accommodating. one of the 1st prof ive had here that made me feel like she wanted us to be successful and cared. a very rare prof!
Tafuro was great because she had us get involved in a ton of class activities to learn. She gave us a bunch of midterm exam questions and we had to choose 3 to write about. She gave a rubric so we know how we're being graded. She really cares about her student and wants us to learn.
Gives labs on Friday night due Sunday no ASSISTANCE!! She is all over the place with assignments BE PREPARED TO READ! She makes you complete problem sets in which is your ticket to final exam. That means you need to have them all complete and right. If not she gives it back. Never answers her emails she so rude when you ask for help. HARD COURSE!!!
Speech science is the hardest class I had to take so far but Professor Tafuro gave us everything we needed. She even gave us "problem sets" for each chapter so we knew what to study for the final. Tafuro really cares about her students and gave us so many resources. She always answered my emails and offered office hours and extra help.
This was an online course and was not clear on expectations in the beginning of the semester. She made rude and inconsistent comments on my and my friends assignments and then would give 100 the next week. Not bad but would not take again.
Great summer class. It was really organized and she gave me feedback that was helpful. Even though it is really fast-paced Tafuro makes it enjoyable and didn't overwhelm us.
Professor Tafuro's class is rigorous, but she provides plenty of resources to succeed. The workload is heavy, but using tools like Unstuckstudy for study prep can help manage the challenge. Overall, a valuable learning experience.
Tafuro is a really nice person and she cares. It's a hard class and sometimes it's hard to follow but she always goes back and makes sure we understand before going to the next thing. I'd take her again.
Tafuro gave us group assignments that were great. Every week we did different things to learn the chapters. answered my emails and was good about giving us a second chance to submit work if we didn't get it the first time. I'd take her again.
I took her for credit, and the work was not a lot. It was online, therfore not much face-to-face time but she was not nice in the slightest. Unprofessional, cuts you off mid-sentence and acts like she is superior. Generally very rude for someone who teaches a course about helping children.
This was an online class that genuinely took years off my life. She is rude, she is snobby and she is stuck up. She penalizes people who prepare for her speeches.
Tafuro is so helpful. She answered my emails right away and everything was really clear about what we had to do all semester. The Zoom exam was helpful because she taught us what we needed for the paper when we got something wrong. Definitely cares and was there to help.
I was definitely nervous taking this class but it's really interesting and easy to follow, Professor Tafuro asked for feedback and made class interesting with different activities every week. The exams are hard but she lets you do test corrections. You can tell she really cares about her students and wants us to learn.
