Good teacher, very animated. You won't fall asleep in this class. But she is unorganized and you get the feeling she just thinks of assignments on her way to class.
very hard teacher
GREAT TEACHER! A lot of writing, but worth it. Extremely animated, I agree. She is willing to do whatever it takes to help you understand anything that is unclear.
This teacher is the worst english teacher i've ever had. She expects you to know everything already and she tells you things that aren't relative. Her class is hard and she thinks she funny but she's really annoying. TAKE DAU he's easy
She is the worst teacher ever. She yells out "tardy!" if you are 30 seconds late. Tries to be funny, but really isn't. do not take her.

As a person she is probably really nice, but as a teacher, not so good. She tries to be funny but she isn't and she is so hard to follow, at the end of class you feel like hitting your head against a brick wall. She never checks homework either, so it's pointless to do it. Don't take her!

Telesca is a tough grader, but I learned a great deal in her class. I learned to critically look at my essays. She is a bit unorganized but she makes up for it in her emphatic gestures.
Prof. Telesca has a set opionion on all literature. She does not allow you to critically think on your own. Her class is not extrememly hard but it is very dry and alot of pointless assignments. Her class is also very disorganized and makes the learning experience difficult.
she can be psycho at times....she gets all into the lecture...and starts waving her hands frantically all over the place.....i failed her class by the way.
A lot of writing but I loved her!!!! She has taught me how to develop my writing skills!!!
Really great teacher.I think the people who didn't like her only felt that way because they weren't good at or didn't like english.I love english so I may be bias, but I often disagree with interpretations of literature and writing styles and I thought her's were great. She encourages the student's ideas.Actually she is really funny, not crazy!
Ms. Telesca is not an easy teacher...but, you will learn! Once in awhile she gets really into her lecture, and you can see exactly what she's seeing. She's a tough grader too, so be prepared. Ask her a lot of questions, she likes that. (after class though!)
Ms. Telesca is not an easy teacher so get ready, so if your thinking in easy forget about it... She is very strict and does not allow you to have your own opinion... you have to do all your work the way she likes it or else she won't accept it.... IF NOT READY DON"T TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
She was FAR from a good teacher
She talks down to you and makes you feel stupid, takes her class WAY too seriously, is very UNORGANIZED, and grades extremely hard! HORRIBLE teacher!
She is a hard grader but this is one class will you will actually learn something.
As odd as she is I really enjoyed taking her class. I didn't know much when I went in and learned a lot. She is a kinda tough grader but tells you how to make it better if you ask.
she was a great teacher!!!! i used to hate english but then i took her class and i understood everything. i feel that the people who didnt do good in her class just didnt put the time into it. she does give a lot of work but it helps. after getting Ds throughout high school in english, i finally get it. i had one of the highest grades in my class.
she really dose not care if you learn or not
She is not hard at all(trust me)all you have to do is participate, and read a few poems and plays, but you can get away with not reading sometimes. She is easier then the average teacher. She gets ****y if you go late to class and she doesnt comb her hairor care about her image, but shes cool.
I went into this class knowing it was going to be hard, but it was ridiculous. I feel as if she thought we were ONLY taking her class, and not another 10 units and that our lives revolved around it. Lots of work, insanely hard grader. Definite GPA buster. Turned me off from English even more than I already was. Only her opinion is acceptable. AVOID
Good: Mrs. Telesca is a very likeable teacher and creates a pleasant atmosphere. Bad: Seems this class is geared toward working the student to death. Very tough grader on essays. In a room full of honor students, only one gets A's? What's wrong with this picture? Expectations seem much higher than should be for a 101 class, even if it is honors.
I thought this class was easy and the assignments were easy, and she made the concept easy to understand, take telesca if you have to take eng40!Her grading is not hard either!
she takes things to seriously and makes fun of you if you anwer a question wrong. every night there is homework and she does care if you learn though.
took this class in summer,Shes a good teacher& does want u 2 learn,BUT SHE GIVES ALOT WORK!Class was 8weeks long;&she gave 18 journal assignments,9 tasks. The tasks were long!!&u could only do them during class.it made summer school even more stressful than it already is.U have to work hard everyday, dont take her if u dont want alot of work.
She likes to hear her self talk"No What I'm Sayin!" she thinks this is the only class you have/unfair! She grades extremely hard on papers..as if we're her colleagues..She throws a fit if u walk in front of her. And she rolls her eyes at you, also rude. Don't take her!!! She discourages the student rather than helps.
I took her for Eng 101 Honors and that was by far my worst experience ever. I've never been so discouraged like when I took her. She questioned my abilities by asking me why I was taking an honors class, as if I wasn't smart enough. It took me all night to do her final, I didn't sleep. Avoid at all cost, her goal is to lower your self esteem.

GOOD TEACHER BUT DO NOT TAKE HER FOR SUMMER IF YOU WANT TO PASS ENGL 100 LOTS OF WORK AND NO REST PAPER DUE EVERY OTHER DAY
Energetic Personality. Great Sense Of Humor. Creates Interesting and Safe Environment for Class Discussions. Positive and Encouraging. Very Willing To Offer Additional Assistance If You Ask Her. Enjoyed Her Style Of Teaching. Highly Recommend.
A very sweet, personable, considerate professor. Be prepared to be overworked though. There is WAY too much busy work along with your essays and tests. She will teach it like an honor's course, BUT the only challenge will be to keep up on the work.
Honestly, the best English professor I have ever had.Leave your ego/pride at the door and you will learn a lot from her.Take advantage of the weekly office hours if you need help with an assignment.Professor Telesca is always glad and willing to guide you in the right direction. Not an easy "A",but worthwhile if you truly value learning.
She's a good teacher, its an easy class. If u do the work and read what she tells you to theres no way you wont pass.
Although it is a little hard to keep up with Professor Telesca's changing requirements for essays and assignments, the class overall isn't impossible. Yes, she does assign a lot of work and yes there are a lot of essays, but she truly is preparing you for university level work. If you want to get a taste of higher education, take Professor Telesca.
i don't really like her.
her class is pretty easy and she wants you to do well,so she clarifies things really well.=] i would recommend her and her quizzes aren't that bad either. if u study ur notes and the book u'll do fine.=)
Loved her. She was great. Discussion was a little behind reading but it was a great class to voice your opnion of the reading in. Text and reading are a must if you are not willing to read the text don't bother taking the class, you will wast your time and everyone elses. looking foward to taking eng 261 in fall
Hard work but you learn a heck of a lot in this class
She is a great teacher that is down to earth and knows a lot about english. Try not to be absent too much and you will do just fine.
she is a great teacher. I learned more from her English 40 class than I have ever learned in high school or any other class. take her class and participate. she is awesome! she makes you write a lot but it is easy and she will make you improve. TAKE THIS TEACHER
mean she give you homework online in the last minuete,
Eng101 honors is a good class. you will learn a lot...BUT the amount of work is intense. Mrs.telesca is disorganized and assigns work as if the student is only taking her class!!! only take this class if you are serious about it. Grading is not the easiest
U can tell that she wants to help, but she doesn't. She does give last minute "online" hw. She isn't annoyin but not fun eithr, we've had 2 essays, 2 big tests, & small assignments...i guess she's not hard, just workful
This professor is probably the worst professor I have ever had. Her assignments are given to you literally the night before. DO NOT TAKE HER.
never an easy day in class. She goes off into other subjects. You will learn a lot. Her style is very unpredictable. she took off points if late to class but then in the mid of semester she started getting there 10 min late everyday, sometimes it intefered with the test and all she would say is "too bad." there is a lot of reading/homework and grad
also, i forgot to mention, that she will not answer your emails over the weekend, she says that she is not a secretary, however most of your homework assignments are posted on friday or sat on turn it in. oh, and when she says that your assignment is posted on turn it in dont bother looking for it in the "assignments" tab its in the calendar sectio
she doesnt allow you to leave class for the restroom, unless you implore her I guess.
The stupid woman doesn't know how to organize her stuff. "Turnitin.com" is supposed to make things easier, hell no, she doesn't post things until the night before & tells us its our fault. She doesn't clarify what she wants, and her essays aren't that bad. She's very unhelpful....wouldn't recommend
This teacher is terrible. I'm an A student with no problems ever with teachers. I tried as hard as I could to get a decent grade in her class and went into her office hours and did the extra credit and I still managed to have a C. She lost a lot of my papers and I had to show her the papers she lost. Tough grader and plays favorites. She is no good
Her class is definitely tough but if you are focused enough you can pass the class. She tends to be disorganized and it seems that she makes assignments right on the spot. You have to read two novels and there will be a total of 4-5 essays, with the addition of reading numerous short stories. I personally didn't like the class but passed with a B.
omg she was the last class english teacher that had one seat open so i definetely need this class i have onlly had her one day so far... but shee already seems pretty tough.. gosh guys your comments are making me scurreedd lol
As a Citrus College student in the mid 1990's I was enrolled in Lisa?s class three times (read flunked twice). She is a fantastic teacher! She is demanding, rigorous and a credit to junior college professors. I can confidently address my audience and convey my views; I owe that skill to Lisa Telesca. She taught me to express myself in a clear, tho
I'm not sure if it's the professor or just the material, but I enjoyed the class. I personally like her, but she is the hardest professor I've taken so far. I'm waiting to transfer to UC to determine if her high standards are excessive or helpful. She is not for everyone. If you are not good at English or don't live literature, I wouldn't recommend her. However, I feel like if I can get an A on one of her papers, I can get an A on any paper. (She doesn't do email, btw)
She was a little neurotic and caffienated the first few weeks of class. I hoped the entire semester would not be that way. Luckily, she relaxed a little and most everyone got into the routine of homework assg's, lab, etc. Lots of HW! She could be more clear on instructions and formatting beforhand. Easy to read syllabus included w/class.
Very disorganized. basically waits til AFTER you do the assignment to actually take the time to explain it. never again!
Wow,at first I thought this teacher was crazy, but later in the semester you understand she is setting the foundation. For sure she is unorganized! but you end up getting the hang of her, I learned a lot from her, but hated the whole way, now I even stop to talk to her when I see her on campus.Great teacher for the foundation of english, final grade A
I honestly came out of her class as a better writer, and got a B; however, all of it was because of personal effort. The class writing exams were somewhat pointless; writers DON'T usually do best in high pressured situations. She is very anal about grammar, which is to be expected. all in all, Telesca isn't a virtuoso, but I still appreciate her.
I am astonished that this instructor has gotten such a high score here. She is rude, condescending, humiliates students in front of others and gives so much homework that hardly anyone can absorb what they are learning. She knows her literature but has forgotten that she is teaching humans. She is exactly the kind of professor I hope to never be.
Perhaps Mrs. Telesca would benefit more to those wishing only to exist within a fashion dedicated to the stagnant comfort of arbitrary ideology rather than those seeking mystery and originality.
Perhaps Mrs. Telesca would benefit more to those wishing only to exist within a fashion dedicated to the stagnant comfort of arbitrary ideology rather than those seeking mystery and originality.
Beginning of the semester fresh out of high school, my responses American Literature, very detailed and all around great. Last Research paper sucked. Had nothing to do with me, completely her class to blame. A future english major, even I think her "style" for lack of a better word was hysterical.Completely DISORGANIZED, don't take her, huge mistake
Very hard teacher, but work pays off. Attendance is mandatory if you want to survive. Plenty of work on the papers, you have to show all your work. Discussions were interesting, but she was disorganized. Very blunt and sometimes rude. I'm a better writer in the end, but it wasn't worth it.
I personally did not like this class. Once you recieve a grade its seems to be the same on all your papers. She assigns alot of hw, like 5 to 7 assignments in one night and she doesn't even go through them all. She's the only teacher that teaches honors english & she also teaches 5 other class so she seems to be overwhelmed and takes it out on us.
She is so unorganized and forgets everything. She takes a long time to grade papers and grades hard. She changes her mind on everything. She wont email you back, and very rude if you ask to many questions. English 040 is a very easy class, but she tries to make it hard. Didnt learn a thing.
I got an A (she did gave out tons of C's though). Easy to grasp, but extremely unorganized and not all that helpful. For instance she would say, "Oh did we have a quiz today? Hmm ok get out some paper and I'll think of the questions as your getting ready." She also gives tons of busy work by making you make index cards etc. She is nice enough.
Mrs. Telesca...an unfortunate contradiction. She attempts to portray herself as a liberal free spirit, but chooses to restrict the creative capabilities of her students with her adherence to rules rather than the bigger (and more essential)picture.Early American Lit is actually just MLA format memorization; no creative/artistic expression admitted.
This teacher knows what she is talking about but goes to fast for most the kids in the class. She gets sidetracted all the time. If you go up to ask for help while she is not doing anything she will yell at you to go sit back down. She kills the selfconfidence instudents on asking teachers/professors what to do. Take at your own risk.
Honestly i can not stand her !she is a hard teacher and doesn't bother helping you when you TRULY need it. She will give attitude as well if she needs to repeat herself and make you find out on your own. She puts you down in front of the whole class and makes us look dumb when you don't know a question she asks you.
She doesn't explain well enough for the students to truly grasp the subject. She is not a mean teacher, but I have no idea what we have learned in this class and it is almost over.
I understand why she is rated low but, honestly if you want to learn basic english then I recommend her.She is not a people person yet, if you show interest she will take a liking to you.Structure is important to her and not so much as what you write.Don't be late and pay attention or she will embarrass you.She will prepare you to write well.Summer
Mrs. Telesca is a very strict professor, and you literally have to be on your A game in order to get a good grade. In addition, she knows her subject well, and if you really want learn something about English then I would recommend her; however, if your not interested in English then I wouldn't recommend her.
telesca is a very very strict teacher! my advice, aviod her at all cost!
Avoid this professor!! She gives a lot of last minute assignments, doesn't grade easy, and has a major attitude she is very rude!!
I really would recommend this professor if you want 2 learn about English. She really does make you a better writter & prepares you 4 English 101. Yes she is strict on attendance, does not tolerate tardiness & text book is mandatory, but she means well. She just really expects you 2 give 100% in class. Overall, would take her again.
If your late, you have to sit in a "tardy seat". Worst class I have taken at Citrus. I learned nothing about literature. I love literature and poetry, but she makes it impossible. Avoid at all costs.
AVOID AT ALL COST! Your other grades WILL suffer because of the EXTRAORDINARY amount of homework she gives.VERY unorganized, grades hard, more interestred in structure than substance. Utters the words "You know what I'm sayin'?" EXCESSIVELY!!! 24 times in one class period! At times, comes off as neurotic and rude. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
In this class we learn basic grammar and reading skills, nothing that is too dificult. The only problem that I do have is that she has a tendency to make her students look stupid and embarass them through out the class period. Also, she will sometimes go on a long winded rant for about five mins. So far not a ton of work, I think it's easy.
Do not take !!!!!"
I dropped out halfway. Here's why, she makes up assignments in her head on the way to class. When she goes over them, you think to yourself.. "What is she talking about?" She fails at engaging with students. Her metaphors/examples are useless and do not make any sense. Do not take her! Take Rudd for English 40/100.
Her class was not easy but it was very helpful. She grades hard and will always expect a lot from you. She's also very picky coming to essays, she will want all steps together in order. Her process for essays are confusing at first but then you get the hang of it. I personally didn't like her class but my writing did improve.
She speaks about the education gab and is so careless and rude when acting out like if she really cares. She is so sarcastic it's annoying. I honestly think she makes her class do difficult so that students could drop out and she will have less students to deal with. It's obvious she is just there for the pay checks. She does not have any passion in teaching. Do not take her unless u want to spend nights doing work she won't even credit u for.
the worst!! i found it difficult approaching her because she's rude and condescending. its not what she demands its how she demands it.
I have a few pieces of advice if you ever think about taking Mrs. Telesca's class: raise your hand often, think before you speak (she might embarrass you in front of the class if she believes you asked a "stupid" question), and give 110%. You can pass if you do this. It's hard work no doubt about it, but if you soak it in I think that it pays off
I am only taking the class because all the other English classes were full and so were all the other honors classes (99% of my class is the same way).
unorganized, lots of busy work, and requires 20 unnecessary and time consuming steps to write one essay or else the paper is unacceptable. hard work will get you the A, its attainable, but its definitely not worth it.
Quite possibly the worst English teacher I've had the misfortune to know. I have taken TONS of AP's in high school and aced them all, especially English. But she is not even close to being a qualified teacher. Her laziness, extremely venomous attitude, and horrendous grading system shows she has zero command of the language. AVOID!!!!
She is quite honestly the worst English teacher I have taken. I am an English major and have a love for the subject but she made class and the discussion of our text unbearable. She called our class stupid multiple times and tries to dehumanize every one of her students. Do not take her for 101 or for her American Literature class. Horrible teacher
Telesca is an incredible instructor. I have learned more in this class than any other. BEWARE: there is a LOT of work involved in this class. The essay writing steps are VERY tedious, but they honestly help in the long run. If you're looking to improve your writing skills and rekindle your love for literature TAKE THIS CLASS!
She's not hard, she just has you doing a lot of work. But then again it is college and she'll make sure you're ready for University.Go see her in her office hours and she will help you and guide you. If you want an A do the work and do what she asks. She is more than willing to help you if you need it. She just wants to see you make an effort.
i learned alot from herespecially because i was never a good writer i went from getting a c to an A.Its hard work especiallyon the essays give it your 1999999,9 % and you will suceed in her class
She is hardcore. It is a lot of work. People say she is hard. It's not that it's hard, it's that you're not use to doing the amount of work she is asking for. Unfortunately, I was not prepared for her class at the time; however, I took the class again with someone else and A'ced it. Don't be offended by her criticism, read in between the lines.
This is the worst teacher I have encountered at Citrus College. She is rude and demeaning. All her homework is busy work. Writing an essay requires 16 useless steps that only serve to confuse students further. This teacher does not promote a healthy learning environment. Please, for the sake of your academic future, do not take her classes.
Just plain bad. She's too strict for eng 099
Honestly her class is full of diaper Sugar.Honey.Ice.Tea and burnt hair. :) Awesome
she is super hard and she grades hard on essays. she makes me feel stupid thats true. i dont even want to learn english anymore. i take this class during summer and it makes my summer turn out sooooo bad. i just cant handle it.
Telesca is the best teacher at Citrus. Because of her I have become a better tennis player haha. Once you take her class you will understand it. THEY TOOK YER JOB!!!!
Not a bad lady, but she is a bad teacher. she is very rude in the classroom. If you play a sport or have a job do not take her. The assignments will overwhelm you. She kills any confidence a student has in their work. she will make you feel stupid in front of the class and is sarcastic to the max. Avoid this teacher for your own good.
She is very hard when it comes to what she wants, but she does tell you what she wants. If you miss class you will be easily behind. She is very strict on how she wants things, but if you ask her questions and go to her office she will help you. She wants you to be the best writer as possible that is why she requires a lot of work.
If you love literature or are majoring in English, please do NOT take this class with her. I was looking forward to taking this class...unfortunately, her condescending attitude and junior high-level teaching skills made me decide to drop. Although it didn't help that my previous English class was taught by an absolute master of his craft.
worst teacher I ever had! 2 to 3 hours of homework ever night including weekends essays every week grades really hard , calls you out on stuff in front of everybody basically gives up on you AND READING CHAPTERS EVERY WEEK TO! , don't take this class YOU ARENT A STRONG ENGLISH STUDENT! AND SHE DOES SOME STUPID DANCE!
If you are an English major and want the challenge, by all means take her. If you want to conserve your GPA don't.
Yes she is tough, but then again it was an honors class. If you put in the effort and showed her that you put in the time she will grade you fairly. She isn't one to baby but she is very understanding. Half of the grade is just doing what she says the other half is the quality of it. Don't take her class if you want to actually work.
She is tough, but challenging for your own good. She is straight forward. She teaches you to be very specific and use those Adjectives. I am really grateful to her, and she is understanding and patient. She takes the time to post EXTRA links and sources to explain literary content. Tough love for English lovers, but necessary to push forward.
I took Eng 099 just to refresh myself before jumping into 101. I struggled so much in her class because she tries to prepare you for what she thinks professors are like in upper division classes. If you are not strong in English, stay away. She expects way to much. Extensive work load, along with pointless steps when it comes to essays.
Extremely rude professor, insulting and demeaning to students. She is not clear in her assignments, very scattered. assigned seating just like 7th grade.no bathroom til break so hold it boys n girls . dont be late cause she will embarrass you in front of the entire class!
Telesca is a great professor! she does overwhelm her students with work but it all pays off. She is not rude or sarcastic she just wants her students to be responsible and do their work correctly and on time.
She is a horrible teacher, it sucks because you have to take this class in order to transfer. She's very rude, always comes into class with a bad attitude and is heartless. I don't understand why she even teaches when clearly she hates her job.
If you have to take a English 101 class seriously pick another teacher. She has no patience for her students and expects you to know what she's thinking by finishing her sentences. She is unorganized and makes you feel stupid.
The material wasn't hard to understand, but there were some test questions where identifying quotes were present (which were fairly obscure at times). The hardest part of this class is the essays. There is an extremely lengthy process for each paper, and procrastinating is pretty impossible. Only take if you will work hard.
i recommed not to take this class it is so hard there are too many essay you have to do and way tp much hom ework every day and even on weekeend sbut there r some papers that she give for a quiz grade which are easy do . PLEASE DONT TAKE HER SHE IS AWFUL. CLASS IS SUPER BORING AND ALOTS OF KIDS DROPED OUT THE NEXT MONTH AFTER ALL THE WORK
Do not take her for any english. She is a horrible teacher. If you do end up getting stuck with her good luck.
Apparently everyone think she's a "horrible" teacher. Probably because they weren't willing to put in as much effort as was required. She does ask for a lot of reading and homework, but she is very passionate and actually very nice. She's willing to help you as long as you're willing to do your work. It's pretty tough, but I learned a lot
Professor Telesca is the hardest teacher I've encountered at Citrus, yet I enjoyed her class. She made me work hard for my grade. If you are looking for an easy A, I wouldn't suggest her; if you are looking to really learn AND understand, she's a great teacher. All you need to pass is discipline and commitment.
Even though she has high expectations, they aren't unreasonable and with effort you'll likely do well in her class.
I liked her. But Telesca assigns a LOT of homework. She seems to have tunnel vision and forget that her students have classes besides hers. She's VERY knowledgable, however she can sometimes make her students feel incompetent for not knowing the material the way she does. Main complaint is the heavy workload of homework. I STRUGGLED for my grade.
Telesca treats you like the adult you are, she's very straightforward & assertive. She does assign daily homework, but come on, it's college. And in the long run it does help build up points for the course, so there's always a way to earn an A. She offers extra credit opportunities for every assignment & encourages you to visit her office hours.
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU'RE TAKING OTHER CLASS. SHE GIVES ALLOT OF HOMEWORK EVERYDAY EVEN ON WEEKENDS. SHE EXPECTS ALLOT ON HER ESSAY AND WONT HELP YOU DURING CLASS YOU HAVE TO GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS. SHE CHECKS HW EVERYDAY SO GOOD LUCK. YOU NEED BOTH BOOKS SHELL DEDUCT POINTS IF YOU DONT .
A LOT of homework, everyday. She makes you follow specific steps when writing essays and if you don't follow them exactly, you will fail that paper. She makes the class seem like a creative writing class when its just english 99. I DO NOT recommend you take her class if you are taking other classes or don't have a lot of time on your hands.
She is close minded and arrogant and forgets her students have other classes besides her own. She gives homework EVERYNIGHT even on weekends. She even blamed the students in my class for her mistake of posting homework late at night. I didn't finish that assignment because I had to be up at 5am the next day to get to her class on time.
The essays are a DRAG. She makes you write brainstorms, 2 outlines, 2 rough drafts, note cards, and quotes - basically 16 steps to do one essay. Not everyone learns that way, and some people can write a bangin essay without having to do all that crap before. It took me twice as long to do everything else than to just write the essay itself.
I would recommend Mrs. Telesca to all English major students. She is very knowledgeable in the subject. Unfortunately I am not an English major and really struggled in her class. I tried my best in all of my assignments and only received a C :/ I would not take her class again.
Before this class I took several English classes & got all A's (including Honors courses) & worked very hard to scrape by with a B in this class. She's an incredibly hard grader; it's impossible to make her happy. If you don't argue her point in an essay, you won't get a good grade. Essays had many useless steps as well. Would not recommend.
She's a very tough and somewhat strict professor but is very good at her job. Is willing to help if you ask for it. You must work extremely hard to pass with an A. Make sure to speak up in her class and express your opinion.
She's a good professor, she knows what she is taking about and helps you better understand what you are reading. Yeah her class is hard and she expects you to work for the grade you want.
Prof. Telesca gives a tremendous amount of homework, but it will make you think more critically and make you a better writer. She cares about her students and wants to see them succeed,so that's why she gives the amount of work she does. If you decided to take her,you should be ready for LOTS of homework, but if you stay on top of it you'll make it
NEVER TAKE THIS TEACHER! she gives the most amount of homework i have ever received. you get at least 2 hours of homework a night that is rather difficult. she never cuts you a break and expects hard work till the end of the course. i barely had time to do my other homework some nights which affected my other grades.
Professor telesca knows what she is talking anout. But expect to do a lot of work !! She is a very strict teacher and might even come off as a little rude sometimes. I took her twice because i thought it would be easier to take her after i took her in the semester prior but honestly it was a bad decision! Take her for 99 but not 101 !!
Pro. Telesca is a very hard teacher. She wants you to do everything step by step and if you don't do it then do except to get credit for what you do. The amount of work she gives WILL PILE UP! She can come off as rude and has a strong personality. If you don't want to be pulling your hair out by half of the semester I suggest you don't take her.
Don't take this class if you are taking other major courses. While she is professional and knows the subject well, I still found her to be unreasonable. There is NO reason for why she should have included all of the outlining steps for each essay. Preparing for an essay is something you are suppose to do ON YOUR OWN. Not with her unnecessary input.
I DO EVERYTHING! From The Homework she slightly checks to the 7 page outlines She also SLIGHTLY checks and yet she expects us to know what we are doing by skimming through it. The time she actually checks my hard work it is too late and it is near the end which irritates the sh*t out of me, Because I come to class to LEARN.
WARNING ! EXTREMELY HARD ! KEEP AWAY ! Prof. Telesca is by far one of the challenging Professors I have taken if you have other classes, well thats too bad because this classes will take majority of your time. She rarely checks homework and by that does not give you good feedback there is simply not enough chara. to explain how hard this class is.
I wrote the one below, and I also just want to give some advice on saving money for ink for your printer. MAKE SURE YOU STOCK UP, because you will be spending majority of your income on the black ink you are printing up for this class alone. :)
BEWARE!!! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS CLASS TO ANYONE!!! Gives 6-7 hours of homework a week! (NOT EXAGGERATING) Extremely picky and wants everything done her way or NO WAY!! If you're taking any other classes, this class will set you up for failure!! You won't have time for anything other than her class!!
Kiss your life goodbye! Way too much homework!
She gave CRAZY amounts of homework!! If she's he you plan on taking then go for it. She has own pace and if you don't follow you are done.
Essays have so many unnecessary steps. She'll pick on you and criticize your work in front of everyone. No one wanted to participate in class because she will laugh in your face for getting the answer wrong.
Professor Telesca forces you to think at the HIGHEST level possible. She's tough and sets HIGH expectations for all of her students but she definitely knows her stuff. You will be able to apply her writing techniques to EVERY SINGLE CLASS that you take. Definitely a must take for English Majors and students who aren't afraid of a challenge!
I took Prof. Telesca years ago when English 100 was known as English 40. It was the honestly the worst class i've ever taken. Instead of wanting to help students she ridicules them for not having the knowledge. Her lectures were equally as bad - there was never any format to them.
OMG hardest prof i have had at Citrus. Far too much homework. Extra credit she offers doesn't really make a difference. Don't miss a class it'll be like you missed a week. It's just too much. Don't do it
Okay I'm going to start off by saying she isn't a bad person. She may come off as rude and may lower your self esteem. The homework is a lot but isn't impossible. The essays on the other hand are very difficult. She has a 10 step process for just brainstorming and is very picky about what she accepts. Don't recommend for winter/summer.
Worst English professor ever. Her homework was difficult to impossible to finish. Always used the excuse that since it's a university level she's going to teach it like that. It was ridiculous. I literally have to go to Mt. sac to retake American Lit because I got a W and push up my transfer to Cal Poly to next year. Worst decision to take her.
Telesca is a great professor once you get to know her. She is caring about her students and would like everyone to pass. Be prepared for a lot of writing, reading, annotating, and turning in Essay's. She is helpful and always available her office hours. I had her for Eng 99 and 101 and I still go to her for help. She's great! Good luck :)
She's awful. You can not tell me as an English Major that averages A's that suddenly I'm writing F papers. DO NOT TAKE HER. If you have to spend an extra semester to avoid her then by all means do so, it'll save you the headaches and your GPA. I wish I had taken these ratings more seriously before taking her.
I took English 101 during the Summer semester with Professor Telesca. It took long nights, many tears( yes, really) and so , so many papers but I managed to get a B-. She is very blunt and a tough grader. When she assigns a paper, she expects you to turn in all of your brainstorming. She's also very caring once you get to know her.
I'm not stating that telesca is a bad professor. In fact, if you manage to understand the work and do the assignments on time; you'll pass the class. (With an A, I am not too sure about) However, if you have a choice, don't take this class. Its a heavy work load. She assigns A TON of homework (reading AND writing) which will take up 14 hours to do.
I'm in here class now. And I made the mistake of taking TWO of her courses this semester plus a third English course. I can honestly say she is a selfish condescending professor. Way too much homework and I'm probably gonna fail this semester because what she asks for just can't be done. Worst mistake of my life taking her classes. Stay! Away!
Loads you with ludicrous amounts of inane busywork, teaches her class like its a high school remedial English class, and treats you like you're a high school remedial English student.
I took her a total of 3 times. She was the best professor ever. Yes, she does give a lot of homework and her tests are hard, but I learned so much and my writing improved drastically. Her essay writing process is something I still use today in my courses.
Im taking her right now and i feel like mind is going to explode. I've skipped so many her classes just to get her stuff done. i don't think ill pass. The home work load is RiIDICULOUS. If your taking other classes i guarantee you will be way to focused on this class and getting the homework done that you wont have time to focus on other classes
I got an A-- but to get it I had to endure her condescending comments, her arbitrary work, and the insane homework assigned. This class is NOT EASY. The papers have a mandatory 12 step process, the reading quizzes and exams are unnecessarily specific, and I am not a student that complains easily. If you are looking to transfer, DO NOT TAKE HER.
Not willing to work with students, does not like to explain errors, has 25 steps to write one paragraph. She is very confusing and not supportive in any way.
Telesca is honestly just a terrible professor. I understand that she wants to push us and prepare us, but she made me want to drop the class several times due to the difficulty of it. It's rare to pass her class with an A, let alone a B. I went home every week in tears and having feelings of being overwhelmed. DO NOT TAKE! You have been warned.
If you take this class, get ready for Ridiculous homework, millions of steps for one paper, tough criticism, and a lot of reading!!! She grades super tough and the steps she gives for an essay are too much... if you don't do every single step correctly, she will not let you turn in your assignment. Also if she sees your phone out she will take it.
Professor Telesca is down to earth and knows what its like to be a college student. With that being said, she does everything she possibly can to assist you in and outside of class. I have not yet completed this course, but I am enjoying being in her class so far!
I am currently taking American Lit with Telesca and although it took a few weeks to balance this class with my other 3, I'm honestly happy to come to class and participate in the lively discussions! Telesca is funny, too! She is tough, but only because she wants to make sure we're performing at university-level to prepare us for transfer! Take her!
Professor Telesca believes in hard work. Attendance is mandatory but she does seem to understand if you email her or show up to her office hours. Essays are done in several overwhelming steps that take forever to do, but they are helpful. She is pretty understanding but don't start off bad with her. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
Purely based grades off of students she admires. You can work your ass off in this class and still receive a C. She never updated grades throughout the semester until they were posted on wingspan, which was after the term ended. Im glad I wont be seeing her again. Good luck future students !
Lame professor , walk in 1 minute late and she puts you on the spot and separates you from the class , almost everybody eventually ended up dropping by the first month
This professor is disorganized, self-absorbed and completely disengaged from the class she is instructing. She offers no meaningful analysis or criticism of completed assignments beyond check marks. Her manner in class is best described as petty and shrill. It's easy to get the impression she only teaches to stroke her own ego.
Unless you thrive off of being put down and can finish a lot of work in a little time, do not take her class.
While she is a very funny woman, her condescending tone is used FAR too often when speaking to her students. Definitely would not recommend taking her class if you have a job or activities outside of school.
This class was so difficult. There is always homework everyday and the exams include about 4 in class essays, along with multiple choice questions. This teacher is really good and you will learn a lot but, it will take a lot of your time. Do not take this class if you have a ton on your plate . Wish I read reviews on her before I took her class
If you want to become a better writer, take her. I got much better at writing essays after taking her class. She gives thorough feedback and is good at teaching grammar. But you have to work hard for it . AVOID if you are busy outside school since the workload is VERY heavy. She can be tough, but caring too. Plus, it helps to get on her good side.
She is horrible we started off with 25 students and dropped to only having 6 in the class myself included. I would recommend waiting for a different professor if your only doing one class which is hers then I guess you could manage to get at least a C. Take her if you want your gpa to go down. overall dont take her.
It was barely the first week of school and I have already sacrificed a full night of sleep. The next day she assigned so many reading assignments that I did not have enough time to focus on other classes. I ended up doing the right thing by dropping the class to save my GPA from dwindling. Good luck everybody else haha
She claims that her class is easier than when you transfer, but what teacher makes you turn in extra steps ALONG with the actual essay? What's worse is that she doesn't let you see your grade until the end, so you'll always have to be on your feet. As a generally A student, I would not recommend this class to anyone who values their GPA.
This teacher is the hardest teacher I ever had. Everyone in the class had a C and we started off with a full class and ended up with 13 people including myself. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
She is excellent at making you think and getting you to see different perspectives but, the amount of work in this class is just absurd. I am a full time student and the only way I would have received an A is if I was taking this class by itself or maybe one other. She wants to see you succeed but, you have to be willing to work for it
Telesca is a decent person. However, she is a terrible professor. She grades unnecessarily hard and gives out an absurd amount of homework. She says she's trying to prep you for when you transfer to a university, but coming from a university myself, this was the hardest class I've ever had. Take it if you enjoy busy work and being stressed out!
So many quizzes and requires the MOST on her exams and hw. Hw due every class and so many stupid steps required for her essays (14-15 steps) all steps must be completed in order for her to grade the essay, takes points way if steps are missing. When seeing her in office hours she asks what do you think your grade is? Made me feel degraded.
If you wanna take this class, you will be doing homework for 8+ hours a week. You will probably lose your social life, cry every night, and stress a lot. Shes disorganized and kinda rude when talking to her. Make sure you do all your homework and the steps or you lose a lot of points. Good luck.
The hardest class I've ever taken! I've never been more stressed out! this class stole my whole life, I never had time for anything and was constantly stressed out that I had done something wrong due to her many assignments and harsh grading. I put in my best efforts to all my work and don't believe this class improved my writing skills in any way.
Telesca is a great person, however her skills as a professor are quite lacking in some aspects. Perhaps I made the mistake of taking this class alongside 4 other classes including another English and language class, as I was always completely overburden with homework from her. I found this class to be significantly harder than my honors classes.
She literally assigns homework like she is the only teacher that you have. Instead of giving good feedback, she would rather make you look dumb. If you got the chance, then go to another class, it isnt worth it. She got mad when most of the class didnt do an assignment right. Thats a teaching problem and not a comprehension problem.
Telesca: i KnOw LiFe GeT's In ThE wAy. Also her: *assigns endless loads of assignments*
If you get her, please listen to me, drop her asap. She literally assigns way too much homework just for one class. She gave us only one day to complete the following: 7 pages of annotations, 2 quizzes (with 18 pages of annotations included), 3 chapters of reading (including questions), and also a fill-in sheet with absolutely no information on it.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. Biggest mistake ever during this pandemic, she is honestly rude. This is literally my first time ever with drawling from a course bc it was that stressful. A family member passed away & I emailed a week prior that my assignments will be late & she had the audacity to mark everything late she didn't care at all. please listen.
The worst English teacher I ever had, she thinks her class is the only one we are taking, adding a lot of homework letting us doing homework through the weekend. Also, I don't think she is the best teacher you should choose to be your English teacher. She really crashed my mental health this semester.
She not help when anyone asked questions. She gave us loads of homework, with no time to finish it. She was too specific with her grading, and made it hard to get any assignment completely done. In general, there was much homework for just for one class during a pandemic.
No sympathy, no empathy, absolutely the worst. I think she is a sociopath....
Most homework I've had in my entire life. I would consider myself a good student, but this class has been conflicting with my social life along with my other three classes. She makes you have your camera on at all times and calls students out for not looking at the screen when she wants. Has an extremely condescending tone when speaking to you.
She gives a huge amount of homework each homework has like 10 different steps to do and if you get one thing part wrong she marks the whole assignment incomplete. Shes rude at times and makes you do a lot of work I will never take her class again
Please DO NOT take this professor if you can avoid her. She gives you so much homework which can be impossible on top of other classes. She is inconsiderate, condescending, and makes you feel stupid rather than helping. Her tests are ridiculously hard and set you up to fail. She took no consideration to the pandemic either and only added stress.
Lisa was the hardest professor I've taken in my life and I've been transferred to uni for a year now. She always justified her work load by saying uni was going to be harder and it's not. I would say don't take her but for english majors she is unavoidable. You can get through her class, just do the work and stay on her good side. Don't be late.
This professor is quite possibly the hardest professor I have ever had and probably will ever have. Even being online, she has no empathy for her students and assigns boatloads of homework. Please please please reconsider this professor, unless of course she is your only option (my situation).
I'm an English major and this teacher makes me HATE English. She has no regard for anything besides her class. She expects you to read something once & commit it to memory. She assigns absurd detailed hw for EVERY class. I've had to pull countless all nighters just to answer niche hw questions. I have learned nothing in this class. Take anyone else
Do absolutely anything but take her class, it seriously destroyed the beginning of college for me. I always considered myself a good student but I have never had a teacher where I've felt worse nor had to retake a course till now-- she is not considerate for your well-being nor realize you have other classes either. The people have spoken frr.
This class is hardest class I have ever taken. I have never struggled with Eng. until this class. Weekly I was having anxiety attacks cause of her. Graduating so had to finish. Her feedback- "No." you'll have three 15 step papers due at the same time of crazy amounts of homework. If I fail I will NEVER take it with her again. Take somewhere else
Horrible. for a 3 unit class its ridiculous. staying up till 3-4am just to finish her work. She is condescending. I did not learn anything valuable except of what type of teacher I do NOT want to become. No other prof. was offered for 102 and I thought how hard could it be? If half ur class drops a req. class, you should reevaluate what ur doing
You should find other class to cover this class. It was so hard class. She was racist to student from other country. She is not good teacher.
Professor Telesca gives A LOT of homework but she let's you be creative and answer her questions in your own words, right or wrong. She is genuinely a nice lady and truly CARES about improving your skills in English. I recommend to not take more than a total of 2 classes because this class will definitely keep you extremely busy. A lot of reading.
RUN. this is literally the worst class Ive ever taken in my life. Its boring and you have to attend zoom classes or she will drop you after 3 times of missing class. She gives a ton of hw you wont have time to finish it if youre someone busy and have other classes. The homework assignment are so difficult and pointless you wont learn anything.
Unfortunately, Telesca teaches mandatory English classes for those majoring in the subject. Her class is a nightmare. She assigns a ton of busy work that she grades with a set of arbitrary standards only known to her. She's also very rude to students. If you can, limit your exposure to her to ONE class. More than that will ruin your semester.
What a rude professor! "This is not a lot of homework" but takes up so much time that I can't keep up with other classes. She will ask you a question in class and then talk over you when you answer. Disrespectful. She treats students like we're stupid. I think she purposely tries to embarrass students but really she's embarrassing.
Actually the worst teacher/professor I have ever had. Stay far far away this woman has no empathy or care for any of her students. She will humiliate you in front of the entire class and laugh about it. I have never had more stress from a class in my life. This woman is evilllll.
Taking this class would be ill-advised for any students that are working jobs as well. If any assignment is missed, you must visit her during her limited office hours for her to check it off as complete. At this rate, she should not allow late work. This only creates more room for confusion on her part, as she has limited capacity as is.
Prof. Telesca has very little regard for her student's well-being. She is a horrible listener, and will interrupt you at every chance, making class participation highly discouraging. The entire experience felt very disrespectful and disingenuous, leaving many students upset and frustrated. We began the semester with 27 students and ended with 5.
Professor Telesca is a very impatient professor who gives you a paper every other week, or a quiz every lecture does not give many second chances except for one other option for late work. attendance is pretty much mandatory despite not being said so. A lot of reading, lectures, essays, and quizzes. Trust me do not take this class.
If you are in the unfortunate situation of having to take Professor Telesca I would recommend you only take one or two other classes. She passes out homework as if her life depends on it and finds enjoyment in nit-picking every homework assignment she grades. I started in a class of 30 and finished with only 5 peers.
This lady literally gave me trauma. The class is not over yet but it is by far the HARDEST class I have ever taken. She does not care for your well-being and you will NEVER meet her expectations no matter how good of a writer you think you are. Telesca honestly is making me rethink my major because she practically ruined English for me. DO NOT TAKE
She's cool. Hope to take a class with her again.
Horrible person, not even just a horrible teacher. She does not care about students health, physically or mentally. She only cares about herself and will not give you the time of day. Do not take her, get a different teacher. She will always blame the students and tell you your opinion is wrong. She will give you a headache by the end of class.
Do NOT take!
Professor Telesca is extremely well versed in the subject material, which is engaging and enlightening. I love that the course covered indigenous, American literature as well. The professor herself is patient, compassionate, and kind. There is a lot of reading and writing, but as long as one doesn't procrastinate, it is manageable. Highly recommend
She should just teach at an Ivy League rather than a community college tbh
My handwriting is horrible so I was using my laptop to take notes. Her words to me the first day? "Electronics are not allowed in an English class." Her essays require 17 STEPS. Miss one step, lose a full letter grade. Also, one of her critiques have never made sense to me: "Theme is too complex and vague." Avoid her at all costs!
The first day of class for an online English 101 class she had homework due . She had not just one assignment but 4-6 assignments due every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.15-20 assignment a week is crazy for a in person class yet alone an online. She also has many videos that need to be seen before the assignments. This class felt like 3 classes
Professor Telesca runs a rigorous ENG101 class with high expectations. While demanding, using Unstuck study AI and engaging with the course material can really help manage the workload. The class is challenging but worthwhile for those willing to put in the effort.
“I believe that young people need to be challenged, and I'm Ms. Challenge!”
