Instantly responds to emails on Oncourse, very entertaining demos, class was not boring, tests are very hard though, but if you ask for help she will give it, fair grader.
She does a great job of making lecture interesting. The demos are pretty sweet. She does give pop quizzes a lot, but as long as you've done the reading they're pretty easy.
great teacher. definitely recommend!! class averages on tests were high Bs!
The only professor I know that can make an 8AM class enjoyable.
I don't care for her at all. I hate when she gives those damn quizzes. She thinks she is the greatest professor in the world and likes to brag about herself. I wish Merv taught the class instead.
Her focuses her class around making sure her students pass. She does everything she can to make lecture interesting and enjoyable. Even though the classroom sucked, I still enjoyed lecture, her, and I learned a lot. You'll like her and the class!!
This is a very interesting class, and she is a very clear on what you need to know. She does like to brag alot about how smart she is! And she's a really good juggler!
She's very clear and precise about what will be on the tests. Tries to involve all her students as much as she can given the large class size. Overall, a very good prof.
If you struggle at learning, this class is hard. I went to most of her office hours and she doesn't listen to her students. You could say something one minute and she would completely dismiss it. Worst 1 on 1 teacher I have ever had. I never missed a class and fell short of my B- by 1% and she wouldn't help me out. I hope she losses her job.
good techer who knows how to get you intereseted in the class.
I really liked her...The class was basically memorization. If you went to class, it was a lot easier to understand and the study guide was basically the test. Although Psychology is not my thing, she made the class tolerable. Overall, I highly recommend her...She'll keep you interested!
This class is ridiculously easy! Read the assigned material and pay attention in class. Thomassen does a great job keeping class interesting. Highly recommended.
she is a very annoying teacher who is very absorbed in her own talents and knowhow...for p-100 I would take it, but if not I cant say you would actually learn anything from it
prof thomassen was so much fun! i loved this class.
Great professor! Makes subject extremely interesting and fun! She does rush through her PowerPoint slides quite quickly, and she refuses to post them online. Sometimes she gets a little absorbed in her own knowledge, but she does have a good understanding of the material. I'd definitely take it- you won't be disappointed.
You learn one thing and she tests you over another!!Didn't enjoy at all harder than my Chem class... =(
This class was very, very basic and pretty easy if you read the book. She is pretty full of herself, but the lectures were not too bad. I know that a lot of people really liked her. She gives pop quizes, and the tests were very straight forward. I liked that I always knew what was expected of me, and I felt that everything was done fairly.
hilarious & sarcastic, always entertaining
This is not the hardest class its just much harder then other psych classes. I would not recommend her to anyone. Find an easier, less annoying teacher. There are plenty out there.
If you show up to class every day and pay attention and then study for the exams you will probably get a good grade. The class is really entertaining most of the time; she is a funny and interesting person. Also, I thought that the grading was really straightforward & fair. You know what's expected of you.
In response to the other comment: she's hot. But seriously, a really cool teacher. I helped fix her microphone and she loved me forever because of it. Drops your lowest exam score, so do well early on and you won't have to take a final!
Thomassen is awesome. She's really funny, a solid teacher, and an even better entertainer. Her jokes never end and they're all great, she loved me and my buddy so much she put my pictures up multiple times on her slideshows...awesome teacher, and I learned a lot.
Real nice teacher and very funny. I highly recomend the front of the class if she knows you and likes you she will help you a lot. she thinks she is harder than she actually is which is fine with me.
I really like Prof. Thomassen. She was funny and very upbeat. The tests came almost exactly from the book, but you still need to go to class. Also I would highly recoment that you take the online quizzes, most of the time the questions on the test are exactly the same as the ones on the quizes! Overall a very intelligent and fun professor. I would
Really nice, keeps the class interesting because she is funny, the class is pretty easy, don't always have to attend, just make sure you are there for the quiz days
I loved her! She was awkwardly funny and made sure we understood the material by constantly reminding us of her office hours (where she gave us candy!).
She is a very enthusiastic teacher that keeps class interesting with lots of examples and demos. The quizzes and tests aren't that difficult if you just read and study the notes that she gives you. She makes psychology very interesting.
She is not hot and who ever said that is obviously not looking at the right person. She is very annoying and tries WAY to hard to be cool. Her pop quizzes are NOT easy so make sure you study for them and READ the book and you should be okay.
She is really annoying, always talks about herself, and tries way too hard to get the students to like her. Her quizzes are really hard and require you to do all of the readings & pay really close attention in class in order to do even remotely well. Her tests are easy, though, and she drops a lot of grades which is nice. I don't recommend her.
She is amazing! I decided to major in Psychology after taking her class. She makes everything so interesting and she is funny too. You do need to show up to class because she gives quizzes, but these are only there to boost your grade. She really wants her students to succeed, doesn't try to trick them, her tests are easy if you go to class!
I loved her! Her lectures are easy to follow and you can print out the notes. You have to study for her test but they are really easy! I suggest her!
Amazing! She comes into class at 9am extremely perky and entertaining, and she keeps class interested with demos and examples. She does all she can to help students succeed. Her tests are not difficult, and she is readily available to chat. Her lectures are detailed, and the book reading is not necessary. Defintiely recommend her! Easy class too...
GREAT teacher! She clearly loves what she is teaching and does her best to see that every student is able to understand the course material. Class would not have been the same with any other prof. She uses many examples and demos to get her point across. Very easy class as long as you read and pay attention.
When I think of my most memorable professors at IU, she is in my top 3. Loves her job and the students. The class takes work, but the material is straightforward. Expect a good laugh at every lecture.
when I think of my most memorable professors at IU I think of her as my worst top 3... she doesn't prepare you for future endeavors and will always think less of you because you don't measure up to her
Awful, doesn't care about students at all or your family for that matter since she has a quiz on the last day before Thanksgiving, so good luck trying to get home earlier.
Excellent teacher. She lays everything out that is expected of you; while you do need to read the text to be prepared for pop quizzes, she provides reading questions that make it so much easier. The tests take studying, but nothing comes out of the blue. Quirky and interesting, genuine care for the students and passionate about psychology!
She is a really good teacher, but she gives pop quizzes all the time. You should always read the reading material before each class.
Overall this class was pretty easy and pretty interesting as well. She likes to give a lot of pop quizzes though and has even quizzed the class over the course syllabus.
Probably the most annoying professor I've ever had. Makes comments that are irrelevant to the topic and serve only to flaunt her intelligence. The pop quizzes get annoying, expect to have 10 or more. Don't take unless you are a psych major or a freshman that doesn't mind attending every class.
It's what you would expect if you are a freshman. Don't take unless you are a major. Pop Quizzes and you must read before class. Does drop a lot of quizzes though. Not bad if you keep up. Can't cram for this class though. Freshman course for sure.
This was my favorite class this past semester. Professor Thomassen makes things interesting and easy to understand. She does give Pop Quizzes, but they are always over the material that has already been covered. If you are prepared to go to class everyday, I would definitely recommend her.
Her syllabus is literally 15 pages long...only 2 pages are relevant to this class. She treats everyone like a freshman, which is really annoying when you're not one. You have to go to class for the quizzes, but as long as you study you'll do well.
awesome
She is so funny and her class was always interesting. She skips around a lot in her notes, but its basically all you have to study for the exams. The quizzes aren't hard, but you have to go to class. I would take all my psych classes with her if I could.
Avoid this teacher at all costs. Hardest of all psychology teachers. Is well educated and knows what she's talking about, but gives countless pop quizzes essentially making attendance mandatory. Exams are very hard as well.
-she's rude, talks incessantly, changes the syllabus without notice, is not helpful during office hours, unclear on info in class, too fast w/slides, doesn't post them, picks on students during class, desperately wants to be funny, isn't funny. I get A's usually. this class was hard to master w/her. you're in for a ton of work. quizzes are difficult.
Thomassen is funny and very knowledgeable. She gives you countless notes, and lots of short moderate quizzes, which really help you prepare for tests. She gives you lots and lots of resources to study from, and really enjoys teaching the class. She gives lots of examples to illustrate her points. Highly recommend her, made me want to pursue psych
Dr. T. was a great professor to have. She is very challenging, so if you're looking for an easy A, you should look elsewhere. But those easier professors will not prepare you for future classes like Dr. Thomassen will.
Dr. T was a pretty great teacher, being my first teacher at IU, she helped me prepare and expect the coming year! Perky and fun. She goes through notes quickly, but you learn to take them.
Great teacher, very funny, makes the class interesting and understandable. Just go to class and use her lecture outlines and its a pretty easy A. Know the syllabus too, she likes to quiz you on it in the middle of the semester
She is really creative with her lectures and keeps it interesting, even if the subject can be dry. She gives a 3-5 min break every class so students dont zone out. She is funny and strange and a great teacher!
Fantastic prof. She made Psychology look and sound interesting, and she didn't bother with the unimportant, and rarely bothered with the boring. Do the optional reading questions for good grades on the tests, but definitely not a difficult course. 4 experimental credits required; some pop quizzes; no homework; drops lowest grades at the end of sem.
She is an awesome professor. She makes the boring topics (e.g. physiology, methods of experimentation) really fun and interesting. She has quite a dark sense of humor which I appreciate, and is very passionate in her field so I have a lot of respect for her. Great teacher- take this class!
She is a great professor, one of my favorites so far that I have had. She really makes the class fun and adds her own experiences into her examples. She is always in a great mood and has a great, quirky sense of humor that keeps the class fun. I definitely recommend her.
Great class, great professor.
Great professor. Not a huge fan of psychology but loved attending her lectures. Easy A if it's something you care about. Easy to slide through with a B.
Great Professor and loved the class! I would definitely recommend her to anyone thinking about majoring in psychology or even to someone who wants to take an interesting class. She is very nice and helpful if you have any questions. Go to class and pay attention to the lecture and read the chapters and you should do fine!
GREAT professor!! Makes her lectures both interesting and humorous, and she can tell when her students don't totally understand what she's saying (and clarifies right away). Also tells interesting stories to help remember facts. A must-have teacher for prospective Psych students!!
Really fun prof! Interesting lectures filled with jokes, stories, and in-class demos that are relavent to material. Tests are easy and class overall demands very little effort. Also lets you out early all the time!
She was a good professor, but her personality drove me crazy. She tried to entertain freshmen, but it came off as demeaning and annoying, especially when you were not a freshman. But it's an easy class.
Great professor! Go to class and pay close attention and you will do fine.
Absolutely loved her! Attendance isn't critical to succeed in the class but you'll want to because her lectures help you retain the information. Take the online quizzes from the book site before class cause she often gives pop quizzes. Drops worst exam grade and a few quizzes at the end of the semester.
So inspiring! I got really into psychology through this class! Best teacher ever!!!
AWESOME PROFESSOR. Really got me interested in psychology. She's hilarious and makes the class super interesting. We never had any homework, a few quizzes and tests were very easy. Strongly recommended.
I loved Dr. Thomassen. She's enthusiastic and I thought her class notes were incredibly helpful
Dr. T is a funny and interesting professor. Attendance isn't absolutely necessary but her lectures make you want to show up. Very helpful, explains material in a way that is fun and easy to comprehend.
Dr. T loves the materials she teaches! I recommend doing the reading with the reading questions and going to class because it makes studying for the test much easier! You can still do very well in the class if you do not do well on the quizzes.
Dr. Thomassen is a really engaging lecturer, she keeps you interested the entire class unlike some psych professors at IU. Her tests can be a little tricky, but if you study the lecture notes and read the text book you should be fine. I HIGHLY recommend her.
LOVE HER! She is literally one of the most clownin professors you will ever encounter at IU. Her mind is in the gutter 98% of the time which makes her hilarious. She also incorporates the mind-in-the-gutter thing in her lectures which honestly helps you remember and understand most of the material. Skeletons for all chapters. Go to class, get an A.
Thomassen came in to teach my class after my first professor, Dr. Summers, passed away. I wasn't to keen on having a new professor (especially after having the great Dr. Summers) but she is a great teacher. She has printable notes that follow her powerpoints exactly. She's pretty funny, too.
Class lectures are ok, she tries to make class more fun with sexual innuendoes but toward the end of the class it becomes more and more annoying. She mostly follows the notes but sometimes skips around and doesn't tell you where she skipped to, expecting you to know. The tests are hard and some of the questions seem like she is trying to trick you
I dreaded going to her class. She is all over the place & confusing. She focuses on unimportant things & barely touched the important things. I would not recommend her for any beginner psych students. She is loud & rude. I had to reteach myself every single topic she covered.
I somewhat was interested in psychology before taking this class but after having her as my professor I am very disinterested in the subject. She was super confusing, loud, and boring. Her lectures were really unorganized and didn't follow the lecture notes she provided to us. Her tests weren't too bad but I wouldn't recommend taking her class.
Dr. T is awesome! She makes boring topics pretty interesting and she's funny. I really enjoyed her class. Because of her, I'm really interested in psychology now. She does get really off topic at times, and bounces around. But she's really great!
I had mixed feeling about Dr. T. I loved her attitude in class (VERY enthusiastic), however one time I asked her for help and she kind of made me scared to ask her for help again. Basically, she made me feel dumb. & although attendance wasn't mandatory, she had pop quizzes every few classes but dropped many of the lowest exam/quiz scores.
Dr.T is an awesome professor. Attend class and follow her guidelines on how to pass her class and you are bound to get a good grade. I loved how she taught lecture. Also go to the help sessions before every test, it helps a lot too! Studying is needed, but it's manageable with her guidelines! She made the class enjoyable and FUN, I thought.
Dr. T is hilarious! Very easy to pay attention to and test questions come directly from notes. Sort of hard if you don't study carefully though. Will call you out for texting in class despite there being 250 people.
She keeps you interested in class, but sometimes her lecture notes skip around and don't follow the ones she gives online. Tests aren't too hard, but she likes to put tricky answers for many. Pop quizzes given, but you can drop some. Overall a good teacher
Her class wasn't an easy one, like you might expect for an intro class. She was kind of rude at times, and I didn't like how her outlines were organized, but you pretty much had to use them. She loves Psychology and it shows, through her loud excited stories and enthusiasm.
Loved Dr. T. Not quite sure why people think she jumped around, she followed the flow of the chapters and it went right along with her notes. If you go to class and fill in the notes, the class is very easy. As long as your going to go to class, this is a great class to take.
She explained the material clearly and provided relevant and memorable examples. Attendance was fairly important in order to get the lecture notes. I recommend her class
Overall, she is good. The amount of work is maybe a little more than a regular intro class. But again I took this during the summer. You have to pay attention because she will call on you to answer questions but overall she's not bad. Tests were decent for the most part some questions are tricky but most are straight forward
Very good in her work.
Dr. T is amazing. Class is easy and she's helpful if you're not understanding. There are optional review session that basically cover what is on the exams. You get to drop one exam which helps a lot, but they tend to be really easy. She's hilarious and calls students out if they're on their phone.
Dr. T is a great professor and made psychology very easy to understand. She did fun demos in class and always kept the class entertained. I throughly enjoyed being a student of hers.
Dr. T is the best! Loved her lectures, and the tests were easy.
She is definitely my favorite professor that I've had so far. Her lectures are easy to understand and she gives so many examples that help and are easy to remember on tests. Her class is very enjoyable, and she drops the lowest exam grade and only takes the top 5 highest quizassignment grades. Great teacher.
If you get the lecture notes and review those before quizzes and tests, you'll do great in the class! Prof T keeps it interesting and is passionate about the topic.
I put more out-of-class work into this class than any other this semester. Her lectures are long and tedious, and she doesn't put them online. It is clear she enjoys teaching and loves psychology, but the course itself and the tests are incredibly difficult and require lots of hours of outside work.
Professor Thomassen is really engaging and interested in her subject. She's really funny and makes class worthwhile to attend. She especially likes P155 because it's "advanced" and has two semesters of psych in one (I'm still easily getting an A+ however...) If you need Psych or just general science credit, take any of Dr. T's classes.
She was clearly very passionate about the subject and about teaching it. However, she would often go off on tangents and spend too much time discussing irrelevant information. She did not go over some of the material that was on the final exam.
Super enthusiastic, wants students to do well, funny. If you sleep, text or cheat, don't take this professor, tho
Dr. T! Best professor I've had in college.
Get ready to work
3 day a week class, 50 mins per, most classes taking a lot of notes on chapter material, occasional quizzes and assignments, hard exams, a lot of reading, a lot of studying and preparing well in advance, nice and respectful, a lot of UTAs for help.
Absolutely loved her.
She's not a bad teacher but is not very helpful and can be quite disrespectful to students. She is not very willing to meet with students and has little to no regard for students' personal or family issues that happen to arise during the semester. I would not suggest her, considering how other many great psychology professors we have here at IU.
She really knows how to teach because she uses her psychology knowledge to ensure that you leave class knowing as much information as possible. She also reviews the material quite a bit, so it may seem repetitive but at least everything is drilled into your memory by the time there is an exam. Make sure to use the lecture outlines she gives you.
Thomassen is cool, she really enjoys her job. But sometimes she takes a lot of lecture time to talk about personal stuff. Read the book and you'll be fine. A lot of her test questions come from the book. Biggest mistake was not readingstudying. Treat it like a high school class and you'll be fine.
Dr. T's class is unnecessarily difficult. If you are only taking psych 101 because you need to fulfill a ged ed requirement, I do not recommend her class. If you want to do well, you will have to do a lot of reading and a lot of outside work. Psych isn't necessarily an easy subject, but there are other teachers besides Dr. T who make it easier!
She is a decent prof, but is very rude to students in lecture. She provides notes to fill in but goes through the power points very quickly. Definitely knows her stuff and would be better suited teaching higher level courses. Not a great fit for a 155 teacher.
She's a really smart teacher and definitely knows what she's talking about! However, she goes through the slides way too quickly and the tests quizzes are difficult! Not an easy A by any stretch and a lot of the other psych classes are much easier! She should only teach upper level classes in my opinion.
Even though attendance isn't mandatory go to class, trust me. She is very smart and gives thorough but boring lectures. Study in advance for her tests definitely. Bottom line is there are way easier professors to take for this class and I recommend that you do that.
Even though attendance isn't mandatory, it's easy to fall behind if you don't go. Studied harder for this class than I felt was fair for a 100-level course. Tests and quizzes are pretty hard, and Prof. Thomassen goes off on tangents during lectures. She got annoying and condescending after a while. If you're taking for an easy gen-ed, go elsewhere.
Dr. T is both incredibly knowledgable and incredibly tangential. With most professors, personal tangents and anecdotes are annoying, but she's hilarious and they make the sometimes-dry material fun and engaging. She also genuinely wants students to do well and makes sure we're well-equipped to score all points possible. I wholeheartedly recommend.
Really enjoying Dr. T's course! Reading some of the negative comments and I'm really shocked because I love Dr. T and I think her lectures and the exams are straightforward. Yes she can go off on weird jokes but not to the point where that's all she does. She always goes back to the material. It's really about those reading questions and outlines!
Easy class if you take the time to study. No writing assignments and all multiple choice tests. Dr. T reminds me of Sandra Bullock a little bit too, with her humor and general personality. Definitely recommend.
She is super helpful and super funny. Shes very smart and these "tangents" that the other complain about help you learn the material by relating it to life. She is fair and wants you to learn. I struggled with most of my classes this term, not this one. Don't be lazy, dont be dumb and you'll pass easily.
I am shocked that people are saying this was a hard class. I did a minimum amount of studying and had almost a 100% average... it's so interesting it's hard not to absorb content by osmosis. She is super crazy in an awesome way. Definitely learned a ton in this class.
Great professor. She's very fair and her lectures are really interesting!
I really enjoyed Professor T. She is always telling us tips about how to study using empirically proven techniques for best memory performance. I took her class in a 6 -week summer session after a 20 year hiatus from I.U. She made the transition back much easier with her cheerfulness and encouragement. THANKS PROFESSOR T!
I think that she may be one of the worst professors I have had. She is very rude. Lectures are interesting but her quiz style is horrible. Do not choose her for your professor I wish that I would have known before taking this class.
Dr. T kept lectures interesting and not boring. But she was very rude and talked very fast. She expected you to just pick up information right after she said it and if you didn't then she made you feel stupid.
Took this class because I needed to fulfill a requirement, now I'm a major because of Dr. T. Amazing enthusiasm, great energy, class is enjoyable, you really learn a lot. Great teacher!
I had Dr. T for P101 and took her for P102. Same great experience and enthusiasm in the classroom, lots of opportunities to do well, lots of resources to help you (lecture outlines, study guides, assistants to help).
Dr. Thomassen is the best professor I have had at IU. She is so funny and tries to connect with her students even in a large intro course. She does ramble, but the stories she tells are always relevant to the material. Her stories actually helped me connect with the concepts, and I would often remember them while taking tests. TAKE HER CLASS!
Prof. T is great at making the material relatable to real life situations. One tip: USE THE RESOURCES SHE GIVES YOU. They will help out more than you know with the quizzes and exams.
Tests are kind of hard but you can easily get B's from going to class and studying. Quiz style isn't very easy and not sure what to expect on them. Use the resources she gives you as well. Overall, she is a great professor, her lectures are engaging, and she's hilarious!
She really took time to explain things well to the class.
She's hilarious and explains things very well-- she's a psychology genius but isn't confusing when she lectures. The tests are easy if you just study the study guides, she gives lecture outlines for EVERY lecture so you don't have to take your own notes, and there are only 4 tests, which are short and you are always well-prepared.
I passed P101 with an A taking Irene which is by far my favorite psych professor so far. 10/10 would not recommend taking Thomassen as a professor. She is really tough and tests are not easy. I am not a C student at all, but this will be the first class ever receiving a C. I studied a lot for her exams and still did poorly. She also gives quizzes
I liked Lisa Thomassen's humor and sarcastic comments during class. I feel like she made lectures really interesting and gives lecture outlines to follow along. Taking the book online tests will help a lot because sometimes she uses those one quizzes and tests. Overall I would reccommend!
Didn't need the lectures or the book, did just fine. Show up for the quizzes but she puts note outlines on oncourse and you just have to fill in the blanks, so actual lectures aren't really necessary. Test questions were kind of weird sometimes, so make sure to remember some detail.
She was my favorite professor from freshman year. Extremely accommodating and an engaging lecturer. Taking notes is vital and she does a lot of quizzes. You have to study for the quizzes and tests; looking over your notes every day really helps retain information. You may need help during the neuroscience section.
Funny very understanding professor. She is very kind and interesting
Dr. T is, so far, my favorite professor at IU. She is so funny in class and does the most unexpectant things. Ex. Walking into class juggling, throw the balls in the air, dabs at the class, and then sits down. She tells stories and jokes to help you understand the topics. Watch for quizzes and make sure you study! Great professor!
Definitely my favorite professor here at IU so far. She is intelligent, enthusiastic, and makes lectures interesting and enjoyable. She gives a lot of quizzes but they are not that bad and can help boost your grade if you don't do well on a test (she also drops your lowest test grade, too!). Overall, it was a great experience.
Stares a lot, speaks really fast, not a really great professor
I was excited to take this class with her, but as the semester progresses, I'm more and more disappointed. The notes are disorganized, quizzes are announced short notice and could be over any of exam the material, and exams are tough. There is just too much information crammed in a semester that it's too overwhelming. Don't take in heavy semester.
I really enjoy class with Professor Thomassen! I'm used to psychology classes being pretty easy but with her class you definitely have to study a lot in advance. So if you are looking for an easy A or a credit filler don't take a class with her. If you are genuinely interested in psychology she is the way to go. I always looked forward to lectures.
Awesome professor! Lots of stories to make the material memorable. Not the easy A blow-off class, but easy to do well if you go to class, and use the resources. Very sympathetic. I learned a lot, beyond just what the book says.
Amazing professor! one of the best professors I have ever had. Really smart, but explains things in memorable ways, so they make sense. Lots of stories from real life, but not in a disturbing or oversharing way -- just matter of fact examples. Dr. T cares a lot about students, wants them to succeed, and use psychology to help make the world better
I loved her so much! Had so many great stories and useful information . I learned so much and it wasn't even always about psychology . Wish I could take this class again
I loved her as a professor! I would recommend showing up to her lectures because some of the stuff she goes over isn't in the book. Her lectures are filled with a lot of information and they're very interesting. Unless you learn/study from the book, you really don't need it. She has plenty of resources under the Canvas page. Lots of quizzes!
Best teacher Ive had At IU. Her lectures are Amazing and you get so into them you will learn so much. Her tests contain a lot but if you study you will do just fine. I LOVED THIS CLASS
Dr. T is a gem when it comes to college professors. Her lectures are always so fun because she cracks jokes and tells stories all while making sure that students understand the material. Extremely knowledgeable about psychology and offers extra credit questions on almost every test/quiz. Definitely take a class with Dr. T during your time at IU
Make sure to do the readings before class and bring the lecture notes to annotate in class. Lots of quizzes but only keeps your best five. Always has one or two bonus questions on the exams. Never really curves. As long as you keep up with the readings and go to class you'll be fine. Very interesting class and knowledgeable professor.
Dr. T was such an engaging professor. Highly recommend. Print slides out before class. Go to her office hours. Uses lots of anecdotes that help explain the material. She is very down to earth and is very respectable. Not one class I didn't laugh in. Study, Study, Studyyyy. And beware of pop quizzes! Would take this class over again!
Really fun! She's big on relating psychology to real life, which makes it easier to remember things.
not a fun class, she rambles on goes off track test on things she never went over expects you to read so much, terrible class 10/10 would never take again.
Professor knows what she is talking about but sometimes gets off track. Pay attention in class and restudy the material out of class and you will be fine. She actually cares about your grade if you talk to her.
Dr. T was one of my favorite professors this semester; her lectures were always so intriguing and she never failed to make me laugh at least once per class. If you take this class and want a good grade, make sure to do everything she tells you. That being doing the textbook readings, taking the online quizzes, and studying everyday.
She was amazing! If you have to take any psych class, I would highly recommend her. She is very good at adding plenty of bonus questions and freebie points on quizzes. She assigned textbook readings but all of the needed information was on the accessible powerpoints, only needed the book when a few questions on a quiz were based on the reading.
Prof. T is one of the most entertaining teachers I have ever had. However, the class isn't to be taken lightly. While she is an awesome person, her tests can be challenging and she can be a bit nitpicky on grading the assignments. She does give bonus questions that should help you. Make sure to nail the first couple of quizzes as they are easier.
She took abnormal psychology and made it one of the hardest classes i've ever taken. You have so much reading each week, it's impossible to complete. But she tests you on very specific facts from those readings so when i did read all of it, i still couldnt remember because her questions were so specific. She was also condescending to students.
Thomassen is an excellent professor! She teaches the material clearly, and in an entertaining way. She's always engaging with the students and never makes class boring. She's very generous with grading, but will get you with the pop quizzes. Overall a fantastic professor, and one I'm excited to have again!
Really enjoyable in class and makes the material interesting. She only gives tests and quizzes so you actually have to know the material to do well in the class, but overall she does a good job of teaching it.
Professor Thomassen is a solid choice for psychology. She isn't a professor who hand you a A, but she knows how to help students to do well. Her methods of teaching can truly let you learn so much about psychology. By the way, she is really funny and engages with students a lot during class.
Dr. T is a very good professor. She only gives tests and quizzes, so be sure to know the information like the back of your hand, as she does give very good distractor answers. She only keeps the 5 best quiz scores and drops one exam. Make sure to do online practice quizzes to get hints about Q's on the upcoming quizzes. Overall good prof!
Great prof with good sense of humor. Class can be challenging.
She cares about her students and want them to succeed!
one of the best teachers I've had. she def makes you work for it but she explains concepts well and knows how to teach. she cares and will help you if needed. she is really quirky and funny so you'll look forward to class. The more classes you attend the better
Dont take this class if you don't want to work hard. She makes you work for it 100%, if you are lazy like me avoid this prof. She is an amazing person and great teacher and is always engaging students, but expects you to work very hard and will check that you do.
Hilarious professor that relates lectures to real life situations while being comical which is engaging. She makes class fun and cares about her presentation in order for students to gain what they should.
She is an amazing professor. I know she reads these sometimes lol. But she is so funny and if you go to class and listen to her you will pass. She gives out plenty of extra credit questions on quizzes and tests. I never studied and passed the class. If you read the textbook you will do even better, but honestly, it is not needed.
I loved having Professor T for psychology 155. It was my first time taking a psychology class and she taught everything so well. She has modules that apply to real life which are really interesting. She isn't too hard if you study because she gives lots of quizzes. So I recommend her even if you just want to learn more about how people think.
I took 315, 102, and 324 with Dr. T. There are very few assignments in her classes and her tests require studying, but are very reasonable. If you go to class, you shouldn't have to study a lot. She gives quizzes (usually with warning), but drops some. She is hilarious and makes the material interesting.
The time given for the exam was not enough. During quizzes you cant go back to your previous question while the quizzes are also 10 questions for 15 minutes. This class is a lot considering it was during the summer while a pandemic was going on. She was not considerate of this. She has an attitude when you email, and will not try to see your POV.
I am taking this course right now, fully online. She is not understanding about adapting to this course. She goes way too fast during broad lectures then tests in depth. It feels like her priority is making quiz/tests harder on her students verses wanting us to actually learn the information.
Very rude. Not respectful. People have said exams/quizzes make them anxious because there is NOT enough time whatsoever and she literally just laughs??? Like this is a psychology class where we talk about anxiety, yet she laughs at people for that. Also if you ask a question she thinks is stupid, she'll sigh really loud. Very very rude.
This was fully online, but still felt like a regular class. It was a lot of work with the reading and Canvas and lots of notes to study. I thought this would be a blow off class but its frankly a lot, but honestly, it was a really great course. It was surprising what I did not know. Im glad I took it. Dr T juggles, too.
All of my classes are online. if it werent for this class I would be so depressed. All of my classes are boring and hard. This one is interesting and about real life. The professor really tries to help you understand the subject. I hate online classes. Some people cheated so now we get less time on quizzes to stop it but its ok if you study.
Thomassen is a professor that is very knowledgeable and passionate about the topic. I think she wants people to learn and understand the material. However, this is often overshadowed by her want to get through all the material as fast as possible. Will not slow down, hates taking questions, and won't take even reasonable feedback.
Dr. Thomassen is a great professor and really helps you learn the material. You need to put in the work or you won't do well, however, if you take the time, you shouldn't have a problem getting a good grade. Her class is quiz heavy, so be prepared and have studied before going to class on quiz days.
The worst psych professor I've had at IU. She doesn't give enough time to succeed or even finish quizzes and exams, she gives ridiculous amounts of material to study in a week, and when an entire class is struggling she says "nobody cares".
Make sure to do all the readings, random stuff will appear on the exam, even if she mentioned it for 2 seconds in class. Also, she expects you to have every little detail from the book, module, and her lecture slides memorized. It really is unnecessary and unreasonable. When we all do bad, she tends to blame us.
Plan on doing the work, not a blow off class. Lots of quizzes and exams, so you have to keep up. Drops some scores, gives bonus points. Overall reasonable choice if you are interested in the subject.
Most interesting when its over a problem that you have. Read the book, go to class, study before the quizzes and exams. She drops some scores and grades are curved.
If you have to take this class, I highly advise that you take it with a different professor. I only took this class because I was interested in the topic but she made it miserable for me. She is very very rude. I expected to like her because of the good reviews on here, but I realized she writes a lot of them herself.
RUDE. Exams/quizzes are all over the place and so specific. Extremely hard to succeed in this class no matter how hard you try/study.
Do NOT take abnormal psych with this prof. You will regret it. Only grades are tests & quizzes. Time limit made me anxious to the max. Hated going to zoom classes, even though I normally LOVE psych classes. She was disrespectful when students asked questions. I like the subject, but HATED her. Take this class with another prof to enjoy abnormal!
The least accommodating prof I've ever had. Basically laughed when students expressed concern/anxiety over short time lengths on quizzes/exams. She's called out and embarrassed students on zoom (no names but if they're in class that's so rude). I've taken super difficult classes and those profs have been way more caring and helpful
Dr T is super nice, but can be a tad condescending at times. This is an intro class, but you do have to put in the work and really study. She really cares about the well-being of her students and has a really cute dog!
I would not recommend. I missed ONE quiz and she personally emailed me suggesting I drop her class. That does not set a good tone for the rest of the semester. There is little understanding for students and this class stresses me out ( ironic for an abnormal psych class).
Doesnt seem to put effort into teaching
I have no clue why her rating is so high. She is the most rude person I've ever met, she thinks she has to be in control of everything and never ever gives people the benefit of the doubt. Don't try asking any questions because you'll just get yelled at for not knowing the answer. Makes her class way harder than it needs to be.
discussing class work and collaborating on an assignment is not academic misconduct if it was not previously established. dont take this class unless you want to have absolutely no interaction with your peers.
I liked this class and Dr. T, but there was a lot of reading, if you include the textbook. Skim the text, study from the lecture notes, and you should be fine. There are sometimes questions over the modules, but she usually talks about the main points on class, so take notes on that when she does, to get those right.
I have had Lisa for multiple classes and she IS a good person. You must read the lecture slides b4 class (she even suggests this) bc she goes so fast, so you have to learn yourself a lot. my biggest thing was she is RUDE; every time grade came out she was always discouraging to kids who didn't get a A, she also goes on tangents ab her life a lot.
Not a blow off class but Dr. T is really nice and fun. She has a sharp sense of humor, which I appreciate. She always encourages students and wants her students to do well. Grades on a curve.
All objective exams and quizzes, which are fairly frequent. Stay caught up and you will be ok.
I enjoyed this class and the professor.
I loved taking this class with Lisa. She explained everything well and gave us study guides for each test. She encourages everyone to come every class, but does not take attendance. Lecture slides are posted. You do multiple quizzes and a few assignments during class but she only takes your best 5 and drops the rest. 10/10 take this class!
This class is all quiz and test-based; however, she really wants her students to succeed. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I'd say that showing up as much as you can truly help with your grade!! She did do a pop quiz once because of so many absences. The class is a bit tedious and her way of teaching is a bit fast for me, but I do really like her!
Her lectures, while covering material I already studied before going, were funny and kept my attention. If you've taken ap psychology before you could probably get by without going to all the lectures. If you prepare for the tests then the material won't be too challenging. Watch the videos she gives you before the tests.
Dr. T is very knowledgeable, solid choice. If you've taken AP Psych before, this class should be an easy A for you. I was able to skip a solid amount of lectures, study up a little before tests, and get an A. She gives lots of quizzes, but they will really help your grade in the long run because she only keeps your 5 best quizzes and 2 best tests.
She is a really great teacher and her jokes make the 8:45 lecture enjoyable. The tests are pretty straightforward, but she also includes some topics that were not covered on her slides and only in the textbook. There are lots of quizzes and 3 tests total, but only the top 5 quizzes and top 2 tests are taken as graded, the rest are dropped.
She is a great professor and keeps the lectures very interesting. You will have PLENTY of opportunities for extra credit, especially during quizzes. You do need to be prepared to read the book, as lectures are based on what you should have read in the book prior. Tests are not that difficult as long as you put in the work. Overall great professor!!
Literally one of the rudest professors I have every had, she does nothing but pretend she wants you to succeed while laughing in your face if you notify her that you're struggling. Let's not forget the constant trauma dumping instead of teaching 75% of the time. Save yourself and take this course WITH ANY OTHER PROFESSOR POSSIBLE
For a 101 class this class is way too much work. The first day of class she said we would need to spend 8 hours outside of class studying to receive an A. That is ridiculous, I have never had a 300 class where I have had to spend 8 hours outside of class time on studying. She is way too arrogant.
Professor Thomassen is a tough teacher. But, she's a really good teacher. I purposely changed my schedule to be with her again. She tells you from the start there are a lot of quizzes but she only takes the top 5. Tests aren't extremely hard as long as you study. She does a pop quiz when attendance gets too low. Just go to class and pay attention.
A ton of information in each lecture, which can be a bit much, but she is a great professor. Lots of chances to improve your grade. Recommended if you are able to go to class regularly, because she tells you what you need to know in lecture.
Interesting class, but it helped me realize I'm not a psych major. Having said that, I talked to her and she helped me find a major that is a better fit for me, and gave me some tips to help me pass the class. She was really helpful, and not nearly as intimidating as I thought. I don't understand some of the comments here at all.
Super caring, does require study. Fair. Does file misconduct reports as you can see by haters who got caught lol
I could not stay awake during this class it was so boring. Dr. T just went on and on about stuff that wasn't really related to psychology. You can tell she's a good person, but I don't like her style of teaching. Very knowledgeable but gets off topic VERY easily. Her 50 minute lecture felt like 2 hours and idk why.
Dr. T is an intense professor, but she knows her content and keeps lectures interesting. She has multiple assignments but only takes the top few. Her exams are fair but her quizzes were rough. The quiz would be on a projector and she barely gives a minute before moving on to the next question. Besides that, I definitely recommend her.
Shes really great. At first i felt iffy but shes really great, funny and if u understand her lectures ull love it. Definitely recommend
Dr. T is an amazing professor. She is incredibly knowledgable and passionate about psychology. The only reason why anybody would give her a harsh review is if they did not listen to her advice/syllabus, come to class, and study. Studying and attendance are definitely mandatory for this class, but it isn't hard. Would 100% recommend!!
Dr. T is good, she is funny, interesting, and is a knowledgeable prof. However, she moves very fast in lectures so it can be hard to take notes. Quizzes can be hard but she drops over half of your lowest scores. Attendance isn't required, but if you miss a class you will probably be lost. If you pay attention you should be fine.
Prof Thomassen is a fun woman with a great class structure. she has lectures most days that are downloadable with space for notes, she provides many examples, a textbook to read, modules with videos, and practice quizzes. she only keeps your top 2 exams and 5 quizzes/assignments. you don't always have to be in class. as long as you study youll pass
This class was a lot tougher than any other P101 class, I spent more time trying to get a good grade in this class than any of my other ones by far. She is a nice lady and was fun to be in class with, but her grades and tests were overall hard.
i'm not sure why Dr T has so many bad reviews. i don't mind going to lectures because i typically find them really interesting. she gives you all the resources you need to do well, if you do the reading and keep up with the reading questions & lecture content you'll be fine. the quizzes are a little stressful sometimes but i found them beneficial
Lisa grades off of solely quizzes and exams, quizzes are entirely random and writes them as she feels. Well the drop policies are nice, she is fairly unprofessional and rude, I have never had a professor send out so many announcements about urging failing students to drop the class 8 weeks into the semester...
I love Dr. T! She is very caring, and always keeps students up to date with helpful info. This class is very thorough and in depth about psychological disorders. The first part is theory and history, the rest of it is about the disorders. Straightforward exams and quizzes. Go to class, use the study guides, and study the slides - she posts them.
She's a doll! At first she was very serious and a little bit scary, but things have losened up as the semester went on, and she's really sweet! Basically it's lectures, quizzes, and tests, but she drops some scores. Attendance isn't counted, but don't miss, and pay attention in class because she basically tells you waht is on the exam in class.
Tests and quizzes are not easy at all. She goes fast on her lecture notes. Takes a lot of time outside of class.
I do not recommend her as a professor if you have a different choice. She uses only exams and quizzes for grading. We read so many papers online that we are quizzed on but she never talks about them in class.
Very nice professor. Very passionate and excited about what she teaches. The class has a lot of information and moves at a pretty fast pace, but can be manageable. Your grade is really only dependent on quizzes and exams, but only the best 5 quiz/assignment scores are kept and 1 exam is dropped, so there is a lot of room for improvement.
All you are graded on is 5 out of your best 10ish quizzes and 2 out of 3 best exams and then a final. So much reading outside of class, but she'll never talk about it in class and then test you over it. I would not take another class with her again, if you have the option chose someone else.
This class is NOT the same as P101. It counts like P101, but it's for psych majors and is twice as hard and is a 2 in 1 pre-req for 300 level classes. Unfortunately my advisor told me the same. It is not. It is interesting and the professor is good but it moved fast. I could not drop, because bschool.
I LOVE Dr.T. Have taken two classes with her -- always super understanding, supportive, and engaging. Clearly loves her students and what she does. Quizzes are super indicative of exams, takes breaks during lectures, keeps it real without being rude. Understanding of health issues. Drops some scores at end, always has extra credit. She rocks.
Lisa will brag about being a "teaching professor" and winning all these awards for teaching, then will turn around and tell struggling students to drop her class instead of doing anything to actually support them. She is more paranoid about catching "cheating" students than actually ensuring they have mastered the material. Take anyone else for psy
If you actually want to use this material in future classes, be careful. A lot of what she teaches is out of date. True professors in more advanced courses have shown her wrong multiple times. It appears she wrote all her material the first time she taught, and hasn't changed a thing since. Her slides are extremely crowded, disorganized, as well.
Her class is all multiple choice, which is nice. However, it was near impossible to meet with her to go over. She is the only psychology professor I've had that doesn't have scheduled office hours. She sends you to her UTAs for help. Shares way too much information about her family in lecture. It seemed like she enjoyed catching cheaters.
Great professor! Dr. T is very caring, and teaches a good course. Lots of quizzes and exams but she drops scores. Good to talk to for career advice.
If she spent half as much time working on updating and refining her teaching instead of working to make her class as rigorous as a bio or chem class, she might be a decent teacher. It's almost like she has an inferiority complex or imposter syndrome. Luckily I took P102 with another instructor and they convinced me to switch back to a psych major.
I learned so much in this class, and Dr. T is amazing. Only quizzes and exams, no papers or projects. She just counts your best 5 quizzes and also drops an exam.
Very strait-forward class. Go to class, because she tells you exactly what you need to know. This is important, and will help you. Also, use the study guides and lecture notes. The Canvas things help. She drops scores and has bonus points to help your grade. Good lectures, interesting class.
She is a great teacher!I liked this class a lot and never missed but my grades were bad. Dr T noticed and met with me and we talked about what was going on with my testing. She made some suggestions my grades went up. I have never had a teacher notice when I was struggling before and work to help. She sent me encouraging messages all semester.
I learned so much. Dr. T is very aware that students may have these issues, and she does not mock people with disorders the way some professors do! She is very caring, and is a great professor. Grades are all quizzes and exams, but you drop some scores. She knows so much about each disorder, but fortunately is clear about what you need to know.
Honestly, Dr. T is an amazing professor! She really explains the material so well. But do NOT skip class. That is where you get specific tips about what will be on quizzes and exams. There are a lot of those, but each quiz or exam doesnt count for much, and some are dropped. More bonus points are added as the semester goes on.
Though her exams are difficult, as long as you attend lectures, you should be just fine. She genuinely cares about students and engages her audience constantly. However, YOU MUST GO TO LECTURE. She is really good about warning/giving tips for exams and quizzes during lectures that you won't get from just the slides. Great lady 10/10.
One of the least compassionate professors I have ever had. Her TAs are are far more helpful and empathetic than she is. They also can explain the material better than Thomassen can. Her lectures are incredibly confusing. She goes on random tangents and can't focus on the important material. Take anyone but her for P101, P155, P315, or P324.
Amazing professor. Lots of stories and jokes in lecture, which make the time pass pretty quickly. Super nice and very fair about grades. Frequent quizzes are used to review, and some scores are dropped so some low scores or missing class won't matter so much, but don't miss ifyou can help it.
Psychology is not exactly what I thought it was, but Professor Thomassen is amazing. A lot of people complain about their psych professors, but I have no complaints.
She is so funny and teaches you all of the material you need. However, the lectures are FAST and DENSE. Put your head to it and give it study time and you'll do well, and feel super accomplished
Dr. T was one of the best Psych professors I've ever had. She is super witty and brings character to her lectures. She is also very clear on grading and gives several chances for grade improvement and review for exams. However, ABSOLUTELY DON"T MISS CLASS, you miss so much and this class is very lecture heavy.
Dr. Thomassen is an amazing professor and very knowledgable, but she is not the warmest person and can be kind of snarky with her students. She is an amazing lecturer, so make sure you attend class even though there's no attendance grade. Studying/memorizing her lecture slides and doing the same with her resources is the key to success!
She's a really good lecturer and makes it very clear what you need to know for exams. Ignore the complaints on here, it's all people who didn't put in the work or got caught for academic misconduct. Yes, she can be intense but every time I've talked to her one on one, she has been very kind.
I love Dr. T! She's very knowledgeable about this topic, which makes learning from her super easy. There are weekly quizzes, but she tells you when they are so you're not surprised. Exams aren't too hard and she gives lots of extra credit questions. No homework and I never opened the text book.
This class doesn't require any short responses but the test itself (multiple choice) is still confusing and takes a lot of time. During exams, she released students who are done before others in a group and it's really distracting and annoying.
Super nice person, just a hard class in general. She's great though and crazy smart about what she talks about. Truly worth taking her for P155 I think. A great head start for a psych major compared to taking P101/P102.
I never rated any professors but I decided to rate this instructor. - SUPER STRICT WITH LITERALLY EVERYTHING - She don't allow students to work together, no groupchat-s even though there are no assignments. Idk why - Her exams are always harder than other psychology classes even though it's only 300 level.
This class was so lecture heavy but she never could stay on topic during her lectures. She trauma dumps and it makes the class uncomfortable. The class is only based off of three exams and in class quizzes. She singles out people in the class and has no filter. She is not scared of being mean and will say rude comments straight to your face.
I loved having Dr. T as a professor. Her lectures are very detailed with a lot of information, but you'll come away really feeling like you've learned something. She only kept our best 5 quiz scores (out of 10ish) and dropped the rest, and 1 exam of the 3 (not including the final) is dropped as well. She genuinely cares about her students too.
The grade is based on quizzes and tests only. She claims that her lecture is required; it felt like a waste of time to attend. She has a lot of "required" canvas articles that were an even bigger waste of time. If you take her class, read the textbook (which costs like $60+), read her slides, and make quizlets
Favorite professor at IU. She gives many quizes with bonus points available on each and only keeps your best 5 scores. Her tests are completely over lecture content and super easy if you go to class and pay attention. She is also super kind and encourages students to give input.
She is unreasonable and I regret taking her for my summer psych class. Gave us 6 minutes to take 11 question quizzes, and barely any time for reading tests questions too. I feel like I was set up to fail because quizzes and tests are all we're graded on.
She is the only instructor in psychology who does not teach her online summer classes asynchronously. All she does is lecture at us through zoom. She also only gives 6 minutes to take an 11 question quiz. I've taken a class in pedagogy and this a terrible teaching technique. Take this class with another professor who doesn't just pretend to care.
While Dr. Thomassen can be a bit strict, her lectures are informative. Stay engaged, use unstuckstudy ai for study prep, and you'll do well. Challenging but rewarding class.
Awesome lectures, goes way beyond the textbook, which you really don't need, if you use the lecture notes to study and go to class. She always tells you what you need to know.
Go to class and you will do fine. It's a lot, but Dr. T is an amazing professor. This was one of my favorite classes at IU. She is the best!
I changed my major to psychology after taking this class. Very thoroigh and so fascinating. Keep up, study notes from lecture regularly and you will be fine. Upper-level classes are so easy after Dr. T's intro. Seriously intelligent and caring professor. She really cares about student.
Enjoyable lectures, she provides the slides so you can take notes or if you miss class. Do not miss quizzes because she reviews answers afterwards and that is the key to the exams.
If you follow what she tells you to do, you will do fine. I took it twice a week, so lectures are long but she had a break in the middle. A lot of the class gets A's because she has a lot of bonus points, with lots of chances to improve your grade. I would take another class with this professor except I am graduating.I just needed a C for credit.
I took this over the summer, so the lectures were online and so were the quizzes and exams. It was fine, but it was pretty intense, so be prepared for that.
Dr. T is a super engaging speaker and her lectures encourage participation (the class goes a lot better if you do). she also really cares, I bombed one of the first quizzes and she reached out to me and gave advice on how to succeed in the class. if you stay on top of the readings and studying it is relatively easy to get a good grade.
The lectures were interesting and made me want to come to class, even during bad weather. Dr. T is very caring and the class has a good set up. The quiz reviews are helpful if you missed class. Pay attention in lecture because she always tells you what you need to know for exams.
Excellent lectures.Don't miss class.Take notes on the slides.Grading policy is very forgiving, just hang in there.
Quite literally one of the worst professors I have ever had. Terrible attitude towards any student that is unhappy with her teaching style. I reached out to her with concerns and she responded to me with links to tutorials on how to properly study and suggested I drop the class if I was not a fan of her class. Avoid this professor if you can.
DO NOT TAKE IT. Take Irene instead PLEASE. This class is extremely lecture heavy it's like 100 slides for one topic. Studying for exams is impossible and there's no extra credit. In the syllabus it says “you might think it won't hurt to ask for extra credit, it does”. You'd have to spend a majority of your time studying for quizzes and exams.
I love Dr. Thomassen. I think she's a great professor and she's super funny. We didnt see her very often because I took her class as hybrid, so we only were there for quizzes and tests. However, she provides lots of bonus points on both. The lectures are very long, but if you make quizlets and look at the supplemental resources you'll do well!
This is a very thorough class so if you are interested in psychological disorders and wanna learn a lot then this is a good class for you. If you are looking for the easiest most fun class, this is not the class for you. personally I like Dr. T, I think she is funny and a decent human being.
Professor Thomassen is likely the best professor I've ever had in my undergraduate career. Engaging, kind, and inspirational, especially concerning psychology and us as students and as people. If you go to lectures and read the module resources, you'll for sure pass this class. Highly recommend you take this course.
Prof. Thomassen is always engaging and makes class entertaining with her stories and jokes. Exams and quizzes can be hard and require studying. Luckily, some exams and quizzes can be dropped later in the year. No homework but looking over some additional articles or videos in the modules is beneficial.
i love this prof, super knowledgeable and funny, but the exams are pretty difficult. even after studying a lot and feeling confident on the material (and leaving an exam thinking i got an A+), i continued to get Bs on the exams. i would recommend her as a professor, but keep in mind it won't be an easy A course.
I found Dr. Thomassen to be patronizing in a way that she probably thought came across as quirky/relatable, but really just made her look unprofessional. She would oftentimes would have errors in her tests and quizzes. Someone else mentioned it as well, but the trauma dumping mid-lecture was also wilddddd. The class content was interesting though.
Dr T teaches an amazing class. She has stories and anecdotes that are funny and relatable, and she is clearly passionate about teaching and about her students. Lots of bonus points and chances to improve your grade. Probably better than 90% of IU classes.
Classes like this remind me why I came to college. I hate missing class. it is one of the bright spots in my day. She has so much compassion for people with disorders, but in a real way, not looking down on people. She teaches from experience as well as facts. She often stays after to chat, and is generous with her time.
Great professor, solid class.
Good class, Dr. T is amazing, but it took more study than I thought it would, just be aware. Textbook is not super helpful. Go to class! That's key. Study the slides, and don't miss quiz reviews.
Always very positive and energetic. The grading system with quizzes every so often and then reviews right after was really helpful. She's hilarious and real. Ignore the haters. The worst part of class was 2 girls who sat in class chatting and snarking the whole time.
Not very helpful. She crams in way too much material; not relevant material, but random facts designed to "catch" you on her quizzes and tests. If you go ask her for help, her most common advice is "drop the class." Her Canvas site is disorganized and full of obscure videos and articles she expects you to read.
She takes students not coming to class personally, and basically punishes the rest of the class by scheduling quizzes right after people miss because she's butthurt. During lecture, she provides students with fun facts, but we are never tested on them so it doesn't feel helpful.
quizzes are so hard. she drops a few, but it's like she makes them hard on purpose so she has stuff to talk about when reviewing the quiz. all the answer choices make sense for the question, so it's like ughhhh.
No attendance, no participation, just multiple choice. 9 quizzes, best 5 count. 3 exams, best 2 count, plus a final but it's not cumulative. Class is long but there's a break, even after exams, usually 10 minutes. Class goes by pretty fast. Early but it's nice to get done early. Professor is somewhat entertaining.
Best class and professor of my whole college career. Class time is completely interesting and really worth attending. Quizzes and exams are straightforward if you go to class.
Absolutely loved her, so knowledgeable and funny. Very fun to talk to her in office hours or after class. Very awesome teacher and would recommend. Definitely a lot of outside of class work to prepare for lecture, but she is very clear about all of it.
Loved her and her class; she genuinely wants you to succeed and will do everything she can to ensure that. Content itself isn't super difficult, mainly very fast-paced and a lot of memorization + understanding of different parts but if you fall behind it will be very hard to catch up. Plenty of extra credit opportunities.
