This class is more of a discussion class. So only those who enjoy talking and answering questions actually get a good grade. I'll encourage you to answer questions at least once in a while because she takes note of those who do. Exams are mainly written essays.

Professor Tran presents a very challenging course. If you are a diligent student who enjoys history, then you will benefit from taking one of her sections. If you are only worried about satisfying the GE requirement, then this class is not for you. She is very clear about what she expects. Follow her directions, and you will do well.

L. Tran is a very professional teacher. She takes attendance, assigns readings, uses power point (which she copies to blackboard), and expects students to participate in class discussions. Shes pretty easy if you get your butt out of bed and come to class. She also gives you all the resources to do well, its hard to fail unless you try. Try her out

This class is more like a "major" class rather than a GE, its a whole lot of talking ONLY. The powerpoints are only pictures etc, if you dont take notes, it will affect you. There are way TOOO many readings to keep up with. If you are majoring in something hard, i suggest DONT take her, cause you got to spend a lot of time and effort for this "GE"

This class was not difficult but every single class meeting was based on group discussions. Prof. Tran is very knowledgeable and clear about the assignments, yet I disliked that she had us use flashcards to keep record of our participation. I also disliked that she hardly lectured but expected class discussions, which were usually boring.

She requires you to post to forums bi-weekly and assigns forums (200 points max) and quizzes worth 100 points each, final is an essay and multiple choice/matching. In my opinion, the quizzes were not very clear and the answers were not 100% clear either. Overall, it was an easy class, but wouldn't take again.

Prof. Tran was pretty average. Her lectures aren't the most exciting thing, but she is very passionate about the subject. Make sure you participate! And do NOT skip readings because the quizzes depends ENTIRELY on them. Midterm and final weren't too bad; half written, half multiple choice. If you do what you're supposed to, you'll be fine.

She's very caring and she makes sure to communicate thoroughly with her students. 6 exams and 4 mandatory forums throughout the semester. She provides you with "exam reviews" which are fairly helpful. Seems like a lot but its actually very doable. She is understanding and I took this class as an elective to complete the required units to graduate.

I took this over winter session. There was a module every week. Each module had a forum (answer some questions and reply to other classmates to earn extra points) and an exam. An essay due at the end. She gives you examples of what she expects, and there are reviews for the exams. She gets back to you pretty quickly on email. Definitely recommend.

She is a gem of a human and you can tell she genuinely cares about your success. I wasn't prepared for the amount of work that needed to be put into this class. Multiple readings due a week, two essays (midterm and final), and a presentation (final). Things are overexplained and vague all at once... didn't match my learning style.

Took this during summer session. Everything is set up very clearly and is organized so you can easily access what you need. Emails you at the start of the week to tell you what to do for the week, and sends another email on the due date to remind you of the stuff due. All the info is there for you.

Great professor and deserved chair of the history department. In a class where she was there to mentor and guide her students to write their final papers, she did that and more. I think most people that attended class and did the weekly work can attest that Dr. Tran's tough grading helped them in some capacity write a better paper in the end.
