One of my favorite major classes. I feel like I actually learned something. Lisa's very enthusiastic about the material, and very relaxed about deadlines. Lectures interesting and easy to follow. Buy the lecture guide if you want an A, and you'll need and iClicker.

Highly educated in Human Sexuality, Gender and etc. She presents a learning environment by encouraging students to participate in discussions. Exams are multiple choice and questions come straight from her book. Very approachable and devoted to her study. At the end of the semester she will write a thoughtful LoRecommendation for anyone who ask.

Lisa is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the subject. She makes class fun and encourages participation and team work. A lot of information (keep up with the reader) but she is helpful and always willing to give extra time for quizzes and assignments and gives extra credit. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Great class! :)

Loved this class. Lisa is awesome. She is understanding and very helpful. she knows what she's talking about & explains clearly & effectively. online 4 short writing assignments, 13 quizzes & 2 exams. not heavy work load, just go to class & pay attention.

I highly recommend this class to anyone. Lisa was very nice, and would allow you to get an extension on the quizzes or written assignments, and she is not a strict grader at all. On top of all that, she gives you a study guide for the final, and lets you bring in a full page front and back of notes. I was able to fit the whole study guide on there.

Lisa is great! She gives extensions on quizzes and essays when you ask for it. You can take quizzes as many times as you want until you get a perfect score. Iclicker used for pop quizzes and attendance. Need lecture guide to study for exams and to take the quizzes. You learn useful and interesting information in this class. Highly recommended!

Lisa is a great professor. She is super nice and gives extensions on the quizzes if you are not able to take them in time. She gives the class variety by doing things other than lecturing, and really makes taking the class worth it in every respect. If you do the work, you will receive a good grade.

She is by far my favorite professor. She was very understanding gives extensions on quizzes and homework if needed. She uses her personal experiences to teach, awesome guest speakers, and plenty of extra credit if needed. You have to go to class for attendancepop quiz points but it's a class you'll never want to miss anyway.

Awesome teacher! The material is very interesting, in my opinion. Super honest and very willing to help student that look for help. Many opportunities for extra credit which can really bump up your grade. iClicker is needed as well as the textbook although some students seem to not use it at all. This class is like an "R" rated sex ed class.

I love Lisa!! Lisa's lectures are so entertaining and interesting that I find myself WANTING to go to class! There's in class groupwork (really easy), online quizzes once a week (multiple tries) and in class pop quizzes once in a while but she really WANTS you to succeed and let's you makeup just about everything, and lots of extra credit opps.

Lisa is an awesome professor who know her stuff. There are many opportunities to earn extra credits. Guest lectures are very informative. You can even ask her for extensions or more attempts on online quizzes as well! As long you go to class, do quizzes/assignments, this class is a easy A+. I love Lisa! All my years here, and I still would count this as my favorite class. There is a lot of quizzes to do, and you need to buy the book. Make sure you go to class, its a very interesting class to take. She is very passionate about what she teaches about and I was always engaged in classes. You will not regret taking this class.

The best teacher I have had at UH Manoa. She is absolutely amazing and knows her stuff. She makes learning about sex fun and interesting. She had awesome lectures and great guest speakers. I wish I had taken this class in the fall instead of summer so I could have spent more time in her class. She provided us with the textbook and iclicker.

Lisa is the best! She genuinely cares about her students and knows the subject very, very well. Attendance is taken via iClicker pop quiz participation everyday. Quizzes are relatively easy - unlimited tries. Midterm and final were more difficult because there is a lot of material covered. Lisa offers extra credit and is super understanding. 10/10!

I took this class not knowing what to expect and it was the BEST decision I've made! Hands down one of the best classes I've taken at UH Manoa. It's a biology class but also counts for an ETH class which is double bonus!

Such an awesome teacher. She is very into her lectures which makes the class very interesting. There are weekly online quizes but she gives you three tries at it and takes the best score. Her midterm is online which is nice. Having the book for the class would be handy but I never got it and I did just fine.

Lisa is a quality professor at UH. Class lectures are always super interesting and she's also really funny. Some of the material covered can be really heavy though, so it's important to keep up with your weekly online quizzes. Lisa is always willing to help if you are struggling, which is awesome!! Amazing! Down right honest and to the point. You learn so much in a semester! Four short papers, twelve quizzes, a midterm, and a final. Attendance is mandatory with daily pop quizzes, but honestly, who would want to miss out on this class?

Took this class for the units and it ended up being my fav class to date. Lisa is fun, funny and direct. I enjoyed coming to class and learned valuable stuff. Tori was fun and funny too. The both loved the material and you could tell they care about student success. Not only was Tori charismatic, she was hot too. Will def recommend!!

Chill teacher, very understanding. Easy class if you need a filler class. DONT UNDERESTIMATE THE FINAL! Before the final i had a 95%, but i bombed the final and got a B- but because of all the extra credit i went back to a B+. Textbook not needed. You need to go to class alot for participation. Really funny class and a very easy A. Class assignments consist of 10 online quizzes (can work with partners and infinite tries), 1 midterm, 1 project, 2 short response papers, 2 self-assessment papers, and 1 final. Do not worry, there are a lot of extra credit opportunities. Honestly, just take whatever class Lisa teaches because she's the best.

Not only a GPA saver, but the content is super awesome! Lisa is one of the most compassionate and understanding and forgiving professor on campus. Her teaching assistant Tori is speedy in grading and correcting assignments. You don't want to skip class and miss her jokes and insight, but if you do it's okay! Lots of group type of work.

- 1 quiz every week (multiple tries) - reflections - 50 question midterm - 100 question final Very easy class. Just show up, buy the book (MUST BUY) and answer the Iclicker questions. She doesn't share the PowerPoints so you have to read the book in order to have the answers to the quizzes. Really funny, cool guest speakers. I loved this class!

Just finished this course and Lisa and Tori became my new favorite people on campus. They are both very intelligent and cover heavy content in a fun and loving manner. Their lecture style is engaging. Tori grades fast/more effective than any prof I know. I have learned so many useful things from both of them that I cannot thank them enough!!

She is a very fun and cool professor from Sweden. She is one of the nicest and most interesting professors I have ever had. She knows a lot about Human Sexuality and she has a ton of stories that she shares for the class. You have a weekly quiz, in class activities and quizzes, a few writing assignments, a midterm and a final. She is just GREAT!

Weekly quizzes, a midterm, a final exam, four short responses, and a creative project. The class was fascinating, and Lisa is engaging and relatable, makes the content easy. It is a biology course, but with social commentaryand its all the better for it. As an uncreative person, I stressed the most about the project but don't sweat. Take her!

Weekly online quizzes & answers can be found in book. Pop quizzes that are super easy. Attendance is mandatory, go to class everyday and you'll get that A! Lisa gives more than enough extra credit opportunities, so be sure to take advantage of that! Missed 6-8 classes but was able to make up my attendance points by doing extra credit. GPA booster!

Lisa is knowledgeable and approachable with a tremendous ability to teach about sexuality. I felt "home" in her classroom. After this course, I now feel more comfortable with sexuality and the sexual body. I have also gained a greater understanding, appreciation, and compassion for sexual diversity, something I have come to feel passionate about.

I was afraid to take it bc it was a 300+ level class but it was the best decision ever! Just do HW thoughtfully and the latex proj (non-stressful) on time! The first midterm is online and the 2nd she allows a WHOLE paper, back & front for notes!! annd you actually learn something bc its so interesting!!!

Online Summer School course. Course work was very light. Lisa cares more about her students understanding and learning the coursework than the number of assignments done. I really felt like a learned a lot and really enjoyed this course. Lots of readings but she gives you a lot of time to work it. Highly reccommened!

I loooooove this class. It's a pretty easy A as long as you are on top of your work. There's only two hard deadlines all semester, and everything else has a flexible due date. Aside from the work, Lisa is an amazing professor and makes the class super fun. She is hilarious and informative at the same time. I learned so much in this class!

Probably my favorite professor I've had in college. She is hilarious. She knows her material and brings in real life examples including speakers, videos, and interactions that students can grasp firmly. Go to class, do your online homework, meaningfully participate and you'll have a great time. Can she teach every class in college???

This class is awesome. But one thing that annoys me is that she calls a 1000 word essay - "SHORT response paper". Maybe she has an unusual definition for "short", but to me it is not short. There are two papers throughout the semester. I'm writing the second one right now, and it's getting on my nerves. I have to come here and complain about it. :(

Professor Vallin is super fun and her class is really fun. Her class is really easy just show up to class do the online quizzes and papers and study for the final you'll do well. Also the midterm was online. Overall this is a great class.

Lisa is hands down one of the best professors I ever had here at uh. She is so fun and nice, she makes learning easy as well. I love her energy and how passionate she is about her field it is amazing. The class is heavily based on attendance, but honestly showing up is fun anyways.

She's without a doubt one of the best professors I've ever had, super engaging. She made a detailed sex ed class hilarious. Class is pretty clear cut; attendance only matters for iclicker q's. I rarely attended. Offers lots of extra credit, and the TA's are helpful. Tests and quizzes are basically easy to do with the textbook.

Very understanding and cares about students. Only issues that I had with class was that it was with 200+ students, very hard to get to know professor in classroom setting. Is willing to help student learn material and will meet with you during office hours. Wish I could have taken a class with her in a smaller class. Recommended for an easy A

One of the nicest professors. In a class of 170+ students, she makes you feel comfortable and at ease. Had to purchase a $50 course reader, but I think you could manage an okay grade without it. Always loved going to that class.

This was one of the best classes I ever took through my whole undergrad. Lisa is a fantastic teacher and creates extremely engaging lesson plans. She is very caring and accommodating if you need extensions, and just wants you to learn. Multiple attempts for quizzes, fun learning activities, lots of documentaries. Biology 350 was a very fun class to take with Lisa. She's caring for each of her students even though her classes are about 200 students each! She grades easily as long as you're willing to put in the work and participation. Go to class!

I took Professor Vallin during the covid pandemic, and my class was completely asynchronous. Even with this, she was such a great teacher and this class was so much fun. Every assignment we have due is for learning purposes only, not to test our level of understanding or comprehension. We are assigned readings weekly, but the readings are very fun.

I called this class 'Sex Class" because the material is very sexually explicit, but with this said this class was beyond interesting. This class drew connections from sex & sexuality to social issues that most people don't talk about. This class does have several assignments due every week, but they're all very fun and make you really think.

My favorite class I have ever taken. She is so funny and her lectures are so engaging. As long as you do the work it is an easy A. She said you need your course reader but I did not use it once. She lays out exactly what is due every week along with email reminders. Her content is very engaging. She is flexible on late work. 100% recommend.

This class I took during the summer of 2020 during the pandemic. Although it was accelerated and there was a lot of information to absorb in that amount of time the class was honestly very easy. Just memorize a lot of terms and their functions and you'll be fine on tests. When I took her you could even retake tests after studying what ya lacked.

I learned a lot and I love how she allowed late work because she knew that everyone always has other things going on in their lives. She is an easy grader and respects your opinions. Lisa & the TAs were AMAZING! Science is definitely one of my weakest subjects but Lisa's video lectures made it extremely easy to understand (make sure to read the course reader though)! There were lots to do for the class, but all were manageable. Best thing was that you get 5 chances to get an A for the weekly quizzes! Highly recommend her class!

If I could re-take a class specifically for a professor, I would re -take this course. Everything about this course is amazing. She is also hilarious, so that helps. I am pre-med, and she inspired me more to work hard from just how she teaches. At the same time, you will learn so much, and have a great time. Love her.

I only took this class for the ethical issue credit and not for my major so I learned nothing. The homework is fairly easy and she never marks down for late work. She has slides and videos but I never looked at them. Honestly, you don't even need to buy the course reader (unless you actually want to learn). You can also find study sets on quizlet.

My favorite class I've ever taken. Lisa is such a gem; she's very flexible ( there are no penalties on late work which allowed me to actually just focus on learning the information). I took this class during the pandemic and Lisa created these weekly "fika" sessions just to talk to students which shows she really cares about students. 100/10

Probably my favorite professor that Ive ever had at UHM. I took this class during the pandemic, and she is one of the few professors Ive had that truly understands how to teach in an online learning environment. On top of Lisa being a very fun and animated teacher in her lessons, the material itself is enjoyable and rewarding to learn. 10/10

This is my second time taking one of her courses and she has to be the best professor I have ever had. I struggled a lot with personal things and had missed a few assignments and the final deadline. She let me make all of them up and gave me until the end of the semester. If you need a class to take, Take her! You will not regret it.

Amazing professor! Definitely my all time favorite and most interesting course I have taken so far. Her TAs also give great feedback on every assignment and were always very lenient if I ever forgot something or turned something in wrong. Professor Vallin and her TAs absolutely deserve their 5/5 rating!

There are a lot of assignments but they're always short/easy to do. You don't really need to buy the course reader as Dr. Vallin discuses the topics on Laulima and attaches the worksheets as pdfs. I'd also only recommend watching the lectures if there is an unclear topic or something you are struggling with. There are also quizlets online

She is AMAZING! You do not want to miss an opportunity to be in her class. Very fair with homework and understanding of people's lives. 10/10 stars she is just awesome! She has a family herself so she doesn't distribute an abundance of work. She clearly knows her stuff and is just super nice.

Literally so good. Class wasn't that difficult, always gave extra time for assignments. Only two assignments a week. Weekly quizzes but she explains everything & on quizlit. She is also really funny during class. 10/10

If you are sexually shy, this class may be uncomfortable, but because it was online, it was great. This was the online section. It is very easy and easy to navigate and find all of the material on Laulima. The course was very interesting and fun. She never takes off for late work which is nice. The workload is manageable.

Professor assigns a manageable workload and genuinely cares that her students understand her material. This is reflected in the way she grades. The resources are VERY organized. The assignments and quizzes may be easy but the exams require good notes in class.

Lisa is AMAZING! Her class is so fun and super easy if you do all the work its an easy A+. All exams and quizzes are open notebook. She's understanding, she never marks down for late work, all you have to do is speak to her or any of her TA's. Homework and quizzes are done weekly but nothing hard at all, all straightforward and easy.

I took Sex Differences in the Life Cycle online. Very interesting class that I highly recommend. The TA's get your submission back pretty quick, there were weekly quizzes and discussion posts. Easy class, I wish I did the extra credit because it was always offered. Vallin is so sweet and is always there if you have any troubles.

The class was well-organized and easy to navigate. There are check-ins each week and there is a checklist of the work needed to be done, so it is intuitive and easy to follow. The readings were not too overwhelming but were interesting and generally important to know about. Also, very understanding, will try to work with you if you ever fall behind

She deserves that 5/5 rating! Her class is easy to comprehend yet it teaches you A LOT. It was async but you could tell she cares about her students succeeding. Super organized, the creative assignments were so refreshing, overall fantastic.

Took WGSS452: Gender Issues in Education. Online ASYNC Amazing, you will learn so much. This class truly opens your eyes to the world and education. Dr. Vallin is so knowledgeable and passionate about her profession--it rubs off on you. Easy grader. Be prepared to read and write a lot, and follow the course schedule.

Easy class but above average workload for an online async class. If you want an easy A, take this class, however, be prepared to do 3-5 different things every week. Usually every week you have to check-in, forum post, quiz, then either a movie review or written paper.

Out of my entire college experience, Professor Vallin's class was by far the most interesting and useful course I've taken. I'm generally not great at science but Lisa's course was easy to follow, had tests that were actually based on what was learned in class, and fun interactive activities. I was genuinely excited to go to lectures.

Super super easy class but i also learned so much. There are weekly assignments , discussions, lectures and quizzes as well as midterms but if you pay attention to the lecture videos there is no way you wont pass. We watched lots of films and did reviews, extra credit opportunities are available. 10/10 class made me really interested in WGSS

She is such an amazing professor and does a great job of creating a safe and supportive classroom environment for everyone. Discusses important and uncomfortable topics but is so necessary. Teaches everything in different learning styles so everyone is able to grasp what is happening in class. So kind and supportive, would absolutely take again.

Asynchronous but not necessarily an at-your-own-pace class. The work is straightforward though so no problem.

Easy A. There is a textbook that she suggests to get and urges you to get it BUT YOU CAN PASS WITHOUT IT. I was able to do all the assignments, quizzes, etc without the textbook. I'm glad that I didn't have to spend $50 on the textbook. Would take a class with her again. I definitely recommend this take her class.

Professor Vallin usually assigns 3-5 homework per week, but it was pretty manageable. There are random film activities throughout the semester where you simply go to the lecture hall in person, watch the film, discuss it with others, and earn credit if you want to avoid doing that one homework assignment! I strongly recommend taking her class!

She is so amazing to LA for and I highly recommend it if you are able to. She is a good communicator and will write any recommendation letters if you need her to.

I cannot recommend Lisa enough. She is by far the best professor I've had so far. She makes class interesting, is so funny, and is more than willing to accommodate certain things if you reach out. I truly believe you would be missing out if you didn't take one of her courses.

Very sweet prof. I had to drop this class because I was taking more classes than I could handle, but I still wanted to leave a good word about her. She is incredibly kind and clearly cares about every single one of her students. She makes uncomfortable subjects easy to digest and she just has the most pleasant demeanor ever. I'd chill with her.

Professor Vallin was great! I got sick during the first couple weeks of school and instead of failing me, she moved me to the online async class to make sure I wasn't far behind. All of the work she assigns is very manageable and also very fun! She was also very accessible when answering any questions or concerns about the assignments.

She is one of the best professors here in UH I wish every professor was just like her. He lectures are pretty common sense of things we learned in high school so attendance is not really required but it is graded by a pop quiz every day. Overall take her class for the best laugh from her and an easy A.

This class with Professor Lisa is a gem - engaging lectures, flexible deadlines, and easy A with or without the textbook. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for quick study prep. Highly recommend this course!

In East Honolulu born and raised on the playground where I spent most of my days, I got into a scrap and my mom got scared and said, you taking this easy and fun ETH course.

BEST TEACHER, she is so sweet and is amazing at teaching in a way that is understandable to all. Never seen such a well-organized course! No late points, so there is one due date before midterm for all the work and then a second date before the final. Plenty extra credit opportunities. You MUST go to class, textbook is not necessary,save the $50.

She is amazing! A lot of material to be covered, but very engaging. She gives out so many extra credit opportunities, as well as deadline extensions. So if you fail, that is on you. She is hilarious and you can tell that she is very passionate about what she does and teaches. I would recommend other students to take her course!

Lisa is really great at explaining topics during lectures. Lots of assignments but they're not hard, just need to stay on top of the work and a good grade is easy.

The class was fun and interesting. She really cares about her students and prepared us for exams and tests. For a lecture, there was a lot of participation opportunities to keep us engaged and entertained. Overall a really fun class.

PLEASE TAKE HER! Professor Vallin is the best instructor at UH. She's very engaging and cares about your academic success. She provides a supportive and safe space for all students. I have learned so much from every lecture she gives. She's very knowledgeable and very passionate about what she does. I would take her over and over again.

honestly great professor. Highly recommend taking her in person for a chill time and to learn a lot about this topic. Very engaging professor and is light hearted. Only con is being required to buy a $40 textbook. But idk I think you can skimp on that

Took the online course and if you are on it, it's easy. If you fall behind, your screwed. The actual class is very interesting when u care about WGSS topics. There are a lot of different and sometimes sensitive topics, but they are very flexible on alternative assignments if needed. I recommend this class if you need a 300+ level course.

Truly a wonderful professor who deserves the overwhelming praise she gets. Her content is well-paced, easy, and highly engaging. Her assignments consist of weekly discussions due every Wednesday, quizzes and creative assignments due every Friday (she grants weekend extensions without costing your grade), and various other fun assignments.

amazing, you can survive wihtout the textbook MOSTLY, but would still encourage to get it i guess
