She seems afraid of her students.
kinda boring. i agree about her seeming afraid of students
She seems very boring at first, but once you get to know her she's a very nice lady. She'll try to help you in any way that she can. I enjoyed both classes:)!
boring class, but easy ,little if any homework
She was very easy to understand. You knew what she wanted.
Even though I'm not a big fan of literature, Professor Wallace made me tolerate it a lot more than I thought I would. Kept the class enjoyable through group work and peer reviews were also well implemented. Can't say she's nervous, but certainly clumsy :)
Prof. Wallace was really an excellent teacher. I learned so much from her. And you know what? I really wasn't looking forward to taking an english class, but she made it interesting, and I felt comfortable enough to take part in class discussions - I actually enjoyed them! She's AWESOME!
It seems like she feels that she can't control her students and she had her kindness mistaken for weakness. She is very sweet but soooooooooo boring. I dread going to her class every week.
Her lectures are boring beyond belief. She has no controll, however she still tries to be strict. she is more of an elementary school teacher than a college professor. AVOID HER LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!
Professor Wallace is a wonderful teacher. At the beginging of the course I would have agreed with others that she seems a little scared of her students. Although, after observing how she runs her class, I realized that she just wants everyone to feel comfortable. She really cares about her students.
learned ALOT from her class, most of the time I was bored but that was mainly the material and the whole process of learning to write. She made the class and work managable in the way she structures the class. Of all the teachers she is probably the best to take 101 from.
She is very nice but not as a prof. All process she did in class were just things every prof. can do. so boring & not much to learn.
She was a great teacher. She keeps the information you read and write about up to date and she effectively conveys the type of paper assigned with visual aids and role playing. Best English class ever.
Sweet woman. Doesn't make people feel bad or put anyone on the spot. Fair grader. I take her 3 hour class and the time blows by. Majority of time in class is interaction with students. Fun discussion about what we have read. Not very much HW. Soft spoken.Very intelligent!I LOVE HER! RECOMMEND!
I had her for 101 also. She tries to get the class involves in the literature we cover. Sometimes it is unclear what she is looking for in the essays. Overall a good teacher though. She is very nice and very helpfull. You just have to ask for her help! (I wish I did more ofter for essays)
She is such a great teacher! She has this positive attitude that makes you enjoy the calss and she's always smiling. I took her Friday class and it just flies by. She's awesome, if you can get, i totally recommend it!
she is so sweet! very clear, and interesting. I had her friday nights, and she often let us out early. she's a great choice.
she is a great lady. always laughing either at herself or english. Very passionate about the subject she teaches. easy grader
Worked like crazy, got A's on most of my papers and ALL of my tests, perfect attendance and participation, yet I got a B in the class. Like almost every English prof at CoC she grades way too hard in the end. Very not cool.
shes a VERY sweet lady. but the class is one that you can just breeze through. you do have quite a bit of work. but if your attentive and do all the papers youll be fine. she grade fairly but somewhat tough. but you get to rewrite one at the end of the semester.
She was a really sweet lady, always very understanding of situations that may arise, you have to pay attention in the class, and work hard on your papers, rarely any homework, only reading, if you ever have trouble with something or need an extension (with a reasonable excuse) she is always willing to work something out, I totally loved her.
BORING BORING BORING. Seriously, she asked the class to find the verb in a sentence the other day. I cant take her class. Shes an Ok lady, but she could not be any more lackluster if her life depended on it.
Professor Wallace is great! I really enjoyed taking her class. There were great dicussions about the stories read and not too much busy work. She is very helpful in the writing department and gives you lots of feedback on your essays. I would definitely suggest this class!
She is pretty smart, and sweet, but she is a little bit of a pushover. The assignments are pretty easy, the essays don't take as much time as you might suspect. Just pay attention, read, and be present and you'll do fine.
just do your best on all of your 4 essayz then you'll be fine.. she grades easy.. she's a sweet lady.. easy to talk to.. but kinda boring.. she expects you to read for homework then there's a discussion in class, but you don't really have to participate. . the class is easy.. it went by really fast..
I don't know what class some of the below are in. She is not a push over. Miss an assignment you're done. Great teacher.
A great teacher.
She's such a sweet woman and really helps when you need it, she's a pretty easy grader as well so as long as you read the stories and do ALL 4 papers you're going to get a pretty good grade.
She is very sweet and is willing to help out if asked. She grades fairly, so if you do the work, you'll get a good grade. She is also very good on giving out input on your writing.
Oh man... she was actually pretty tough... a sweet lady, but this class raped me (almost) i laboured over the essays... shes a tough grader but her tests and quizzes are a breeze.
Prof. Wallace is extremely nice and helpful. The class is centered around peer groups and class participation, and you will feel comfortable expressing yourself creatively. I had a great time discussing the assignments with the rest of the class and comparing work in peer groups. I would recommend this English class to anyone I know.
I was not too excited about taking English 101, but this teacher made it SO chill! I had such a great time in class! As the previous person mentioned, it is very much a group effort class, with class discussions, so do your readings and you'll be fine. There were only 4 papers, and I had no trouble writing any of them. Great teacher!
what I really like about prof wallace is that she fits each student's level. everyone participates and it doesn't matter how "smart" you are because she takes whatever you say and uses it. I'm a high school student and the class isn't quite as advanced as I expected, but I like her
I highly recommend Lisa Wallace for English. She is always available for help, and I think her grading is perfectly fair. She is very passionate in the subject.
MOST BORING TEACHER EVER. she seems to grade easy, but actually being in class is pointless. the only thing you are graded on is your essays, which have boring prompts. I REGRET TAKING HER.
Terrific and engaging. Forces each of the students to get to know one another. Really miss the class.
She is a nice teacher, and will freely help you to succeed. English is not my strength; it is difficult to write 4 papers during the winter intersession, but it can be done. She gives you reading assignments, but she doesnt check any of them, so you can freely blow them off. All you need to do is write your essays!
4 paper that's it. Good luck. Easy grade.
Wallace is truly inspirational. Writing essays is not my strength and she took the time to really help me out. Turned out I wasn't so bad. She's funny and quite easy to get along with. Do your essays and turn them in on time.
L. Wallace was such a great & nice teacher. She believes in class discussions rather than boring lectures. She picks the subject for the essays and you get to pick the topics! Shes also a fair, easy grader, and has such a kind voice :) Im taking her 102 class
for english 102 shes a really good teacher. In the beginning you have to go to class because she throws in suprise quizzes but they are really easy if you read the material. she grades pretty hard on the essays but she gives good feedback on each of them to help you improve your next essay. overall i really liked her and i would take her class agai
I was not looking forward to taking English but Mrs. Wallace made it very enjoyable. She is a great prof.& knows her stuff. She is the cutest and sweetest thing and very understanding. If you go to her office hrs for help on essays she really takes her time to help you through it. Take her! Best prof at COC!
Lectures are not that interesting. Did not like the textbook. Prof. Wallace is very likeable and helpful. Essays are graded hard, require thought and effort. Attendance is mandatory. I did learn some new things. Overall good teacher.
Terrible textbook. Teacher is a bit giddy. Essays are difficult, subject to her interpretation. Easy class participation, made it more palatable. Grade based on 3 essays only. Lots of technicalities. Ok class if you enjoy writing.
Professor Wallace was a very sweet teacher who clearly laid out what we would study and be graded on. She is more than helpful whenever you need it and no question is stupid. Do all the essays and participation and you will earn an A. I got a B because i did not take advantage of her presentation opportunity. But she is a lovely woman.
Wallace is such a sweet teacher! I loved her class and learned a lot. If you need her help, just ask. Class participation is a must, but it's not hard at all. She laughs, makes jokes and makes the class fun. I would definitely recommend her!
Not too bad of a class at all. Wallace is a strangely awkward yet funny little lady. Has a strange fixation with her horses but to each their own. Very clear in what is required and grading is pretty chill. Overall, if you contribut in class discussions and do decent on essays there's no reason you shouldn;t receive at least a B!!
Wallace is a really good teacher, she is awkwardly funny! her laugh makes you wanna laugh with her! there is 4 essays you have to do. and you do use the book for homework but i never read one story or even used the book. and she doesn't collect the hw so u don't have to read. she's not strict and just an overall good teacher. i recommend her!!!
Her laugh is so fun!! Her class is entertaining, she tells stories about her life that keeps the class entertaining. English is my second language and I hate wrtitting, but the class its not really hard. 4 essays total, no extra credit available.
She is such a wonderful professor, she makes critical thinking a part of your everyday life. her methods are somewhat Socratic, so if you're not one for dialogue don't bother. Tons of reading but the texts are not monotonous.
Wonderful Professor! I learned so much from her & my writing skills improved quite a lot after taking this class. Class wasn't hard at all, as long as you show up to class, do all 4 essays & participate now and then, you'll pass for sure! I didn't even use my book & still passed with a B+ She is also very funny & so nice :)
Very good English teacher! She is very nice and more than willing to help you with anything you need. I took her in the summer and she was very enjoyable. Only reason I didn't get an A was because I got lazy and turned in an essay late. She is a fair grader in that she doesnt expect you to a master of essay writing but you do have to put in effort.
She is a good teacher..she is a bit silly and laughs at her own jokes. She is very helpful if you go to her office hours and make the corrections that she suggest and you should pass her class no problem.
The hottest teacher around, great personality, killer jokes and super helpful.
Best teacher in COC! Not only is this clss easy, but its fun as well. Wallace is supper helpful and makes her lectures very easy and clear. 4 essays is all you need to worry about, but their simple. Although she requires a book, you do not really need it. She's a fair grader, and has a very nice personality. Will highly recommend her!!
Dr. Wallace is one of the best English teachers at COC! She is so sweet and helpful. Her class is really interesting. Make sure you do all four essays and your participation assignment, and you should definitely pass. Highly recommend taking her!
She is the sweetest. Take her! Only piece of advice: MAKE SURE YOU WRITE THE ROUGH DRAFTS and turn them in on time. I received a B in the class and would of gotten an A if I had simply done the rough drafts. Also, volunteer!
I really enjoy this teacher. We studied Hamlet and couldn't believe she made me like it. I was always against things like that but she made it pretty interesting. Sweet sweet teacher. She is kind AND caring.
If you want to be taught how to write essays properly do not take her. She does not really say how she likes her essays. She does explain the prompts for the essays. Other than that, very easy going and so sweet and is such a dork Her laugh would make me laugh. SHOW up to class on group critique days and turn your essays on time. Theres no homework
She is sooo sweet and kind! Very down to earth and a silly personality. Easy class, easy grader and small amount of homework. Assigns 4 papers, all very doable. If you want to improve your writing I suggest not taking her.
Fantastic professor. Her class improved my writing and inspired me to be a better person. I was motivated to do extra reading assignments that she didn't ask for. 4 essays, but she's extremely helpful. If you follow her feedback and show up, easy A.
Professor Wallace is such a nice teacher and very helpful if you ask. However she is a tough grader. Does not give you an A on essay's easy, you have to work for it. If you do the reading then you will do well on the reading quizzes.
Professor Wallace is one of the best English teachers I have ever had. She seems to not care to much on the length of papers, just as long as you get your point across. She really does seem to care about her students passing. You need house on mango street, and her Literature text book, but don't bother getting the Asking the right questions book.
Great Professor! Her lectures are sometimes boring but she tries to make them fun and makes the class laugh. Really cares about her students and wants most of the class participate in discussions. She gives pop quizzes on the readings sometimes. 4 papers all 4-6 pages. You need her Literature text book. Topics: Poems, Novels, stories, plays.
Totally Recommend Her!!! By far she has been the most friendly and caring teacher. Her class is easy, there are no tests and only 4 essays thats are extremely easy.
Professor Wallace puts a lot into her lectures, but because participation by the class was dependent on their success, some fell flat. Most of the lectures did not have much to do with the assignments, but were targeted on critical thinking. She gives plenty of time to complete the essays with tons of input if you want it. Not much homework.
She's very sweet and understanding! As long as you come to class everyday, and red all the assigned readings you should pass the class!
She gives a lot of handouts that will help you in doing essays. Gives a lot of time approximately 3 week each essay. No hw. 4 essays only. Each essay has minimum of 4 page length. SHE'S SWEET AND CHARMING. Lots of group works in class.
I LOVE LISA. ENGLISH ISN'T MY FORTE BUT IN HER CLASS SHE MAKES ME ENJOY WRITING, ( I DONT ENJOY PARTICIPATING COZ I AINT THAT KIND OF STUDENT). THOUGH HER ACTIVITIES HELP ME IMPROVE IN WRITING. SHE HAS HELPFUL GUIDELINES THAT KEEPS YOU IN TRACK AND ORGANIZE. SHE DEVELOPS YOUR CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS AND THAT IS ONE OF THE PERKS IN THIS CLASS.
she's a tough grader But she gives u a month to complete one essay (4Pages in total) she's kind and sweet! Finals will be Essay writing in class. Hw? She assigned less than 5 reflectiVe papers for the whole term. She doesnt give back your activities or hw so you wont track ur progress though she give back ur papers on time. You'll love lisa!
She is kind and really there to help IF YOU TAKE ADVANTAGE AND ASK FOR HELP and make an appointment. I must say she is better than Mr. Mike. It is an easy "a" for those whose english isnt their first language. Kinda sucks, she's definitely considerate but i wish she sees her students in the same way.
Feedback? She does on papers but not much, you won't learn how to improve UNLESS you ASK or DO YOUR RESEARCH. You'll get most of it it from peer critique groups. I love Lisa she understands most of the students so she doesnt want to overload us with tons of hws and papers. She takes roll everyday. You'll learn a lot of critical thinking with her
Such an amazing professor! clear and concise on expectations, doesn't overload students with work. Fair grader in my opinion.
I got a B in the class but she is definitely a great teacher! TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HER OFFICE HOURS. I got B+s on all my papers and English is definitely not my subject. She always tells jokes but they're not funny. She's the sweetest and always willing to help. I would definitely recommend her and take her again. She gives great feedback.
She's very sweet and always smiling and laughing! She is always willing to help you! Go to her office hours if you need advice for your essays! Took her over fall and total of 4 essays, a midterm, and a final. I think she doesn't grade hard and if you met the requirements in her essay, then you're good! She barely gives homeworks too!
She's the absolute best! She really cares for her students and she's passionate about teaching. Her class time is enjoyable. There are readings for hw but mostly essays-4 total. She gives a few weeks for each. Would definitely take her again. She is a tough grader but she gives back awesome feedback. Definitely recommend her.
Prof. Wallace was my first prof here at COC and hands down was the best one that I had. She always had a smile on her face and told jokes and stories, but we did learn stuff. We used the books often and only wrote 5 essays, all of which (except the Midterm) were edited by the class in peer critique groups, so don't stress. You'll love this class!
Took Short term class in Spring. Cutest woman ever! She's always laughing and her classroom is filled with positive attitudes. 8 weeks, 4 essays (completely doable), maybe had 4 or 5 homework assignments from the book, and the Final is an in class essay on very opinionated broad school related topic. I'm a B average writer.
Professor Wallace is a really solid teacher. She's extremely nice and it's really easy to ask her questions. She does go on weird tangents some times during a lecture but they're usually pretty entertaining stories. Her essay prompts are very vague and she let's you have a lot of freedom with your essays which could be good or bad.
Professor Wallace is a really nice lady. If you just write your papers carefully and hit all the criteria for each paper then you should have no problem getting an A. The structure is a simple 4 essays throughout the course. She laughs a lot and can tell funny stories. She is much recommended if you don't want to stress about your english class!!!!
Professor Wallace is very nice. Its an EASY class, there's four essay r so between 4-6 pages. I ended up with a B but it was a really nice class to have . No stress , it balance my classes out.
I enjoyed this class and Professor Wallace. I have always done well in english and she graded my essays quite hard. I received a B and english is one of my best subjects. Her class is really easy though and there is not much work that you have to do outside of the assigned essays. I would recommend.
Nicest woman to ever walk the planet. No tests. Books are needed for homework assignments. You'll be doing a lot of writing. Final exam was 5 questions on the analyzation of an article.
Sweetest Professor ever! Her class was such a piece of cake. I would definitley recommend her to others. The books are needed for homework but do everything and you will pass.
Lisa is a very kind person but doesn't offer good feedback on the 4 essays you have if you go in to her office hours. She's a tough grader but there aren't any tests or quizzes except for the final. There's a lot of reading and in class discussions. Participation is graded. She was very nice but really makes you work hard for a decent grade.
Straightforward writing class. Reading homework was really only needed for class participation. Graded on 4 essays overall with a final.
Loved her English class. Very caring and funny, would definitely recommend anyone to take her. She can be a little bit of a tough grader but if you do all your work in her class you'll get a good grade. Don't slack off and you'll be fine.
She is super nice, and the class is easy. I wouldn't have shown up if it were for the fact you get graded on participation. i got a B though because she only grades on essays. So, it is an easy class, but i still got a B grade, make sense?
Professor Wallace is very caring and you can tell she cares about her students. Gives good feedback and proper guideline for a good grade. Shes passive aggressive at times which leads to students not respecting her as much as they should
Lisa is very nice and does make herself available outside of class to read over essay rough drafts. However, I did not care for her teaching style, and her directions/expectations for the essays were vague. I had to ask many clarification questions because I was often confused on what to do. Also, there are pointless readings in the textbook.
shes caring for her students, genuinely wants you to succeed. i will say pointless textbook readings that were only for class participation. Only got graded on 3 essays, never saw my grades for anything else. Hands back papers quiet late but overall I would take her again. she does grade on participation in class as well.
Professor Wallace was one of the best Professors I have had at COC. She is very kind, and the class feels easy going because of her personality. I'm sure everyone has problems, but she came to school every day with a genuine smile. She grades on 4 essays and participation, and there are text book readings and homework which are easy.
I definitely got the grade I deserved in this class. I didnt work that hard and still got a B. However she gives great feedback and is overall amazing.
Prof Wallace is an extremely nice professor but you don't learn as much as you probably want or need to. I took her for 101 and 103 and the courses are exactly the same. There are four essays, a few homework reading assignments from the textbooks, and one discussion in the class. She is an easy teacher that cares about her students, and is easy.
She explains very well what she expects from her students. There are never any surprises. The homework is very light. If you attend all her classes the class will be not be hard.
She showed up to class late every day (5-20 min.), was unorganized, had us watch videos on bomb sniffing rats (I didn't learn much in this class), & made us buy 3 textbooks but we only used 1. Forgets a lot of things so you have to constantly remind her. Canceled class 5 times all 20-40 minutes AFTER class started.
Very sweet professor. Her lectures come in handy and they aren't boring because she always finds a way to connect them to her personal life. As far as work goes, the essays are what you need to focus on and I strongly advise you to go to her office hours (you get the grade you work for). Her home work assignments are easy. One need 1/2 books.
This teacher was extremely unprofessional. She came to class late multiple times and missed multiple classes. In 2018 this teacher states she doesn't use internet service so she will not email you back or post grades throughout the semester. Her class time is extremely unorganized and the teacher is awful at keeping the class conversation going.
Very nice professor & gave minimal homework. Usually has a daily activity that counts as a "participation grade" worth 10% of your grade, so you'll need to be there. She's a bit of a tough grader, but if you go to her office hours for help, you'll most likely do well. She gives 4 total essays & one final in class essay. You need books for hw.
Pretty easy class, all you gotta do to pass is participate and do the essays, definitely take advantage of her office hours, she will review your entire essay and give you feed back on it, if you use her feedback you will get an A
Pretty easy professor. Grades a little tough at times, but just make sure you understand what she looks for in an essay and youll be fine.
Took this class during winter (3x a week for about 3 hrs) and it was a waste of time. Mostly irrelevant conversations. She only grades participation, final exam, and essays, so essays are worth a lot. You can ONLY get an A if you ask her to review your essays and follow her advice. Don't bother getting the book, you can get by without it.
This was an English class I had to work for. It's easy to get a B, but I wanted to get an A and she doesn't hand those out easy. Make sure to go to her office hours so she can review your essay because then you'll get a better grade. PARTICIPATION MATTERS! Make sure to participate everyday because it will really help!
Professor Wallace's class was a tough one, You get a little bit of homework, but she's a tough grader when it comes to Essays. I ended up with a C in her class but I am sure it could have been better, and she's a nice professor overall, but if your looking for an easy A she is not the one.
Her class was incredibly easy. You do have to show up, but participation is optional (but she may call on you occasionally). The workload is very light, and only grades 4-5 essays so if you aren't strong in writing them be aware that one bad grade will bring you down. However, she does offer office hours to help students with their essays.
Professor Wallace is great!!!! We had to do 4 essays along with a few readings which also help with writing your essays. Her lectures are never boring, due to her using some situations in her personal life as examples that relate to her lectures. She will try her best to remember your name. She also gives good feedback when returning essays.
I loved her class! Only four papers for the class and she makes such an effort with all her students. Go to her office hours if you want an A but she's an amazing teacher! Would def take her class again
No offense but English is super boring in my opinion but She makes you want to go to class everyday, you are placed into groups a lot to talk about your lessons and essays. I got an A and I'm not a good writer at all. she helped a lot with teaching me how to structure my essays properly and stay on point.
She is a very nice teacher but she is very boring. Its an easy class not much homework and only four essays throughout the semester. But I would not take her class again cause I did not learn much and all her in class topics were pointless. It made me not want to come to class.
Shes a super nice sweet. The homework is easy and theres not much to do. The classes are honestly kind of boring and I skipped some. Some of her lectures are pointless and dont relate to anything. Theres 4 essays and you want to make sure you do good because thats basically all the grade. No tests. Take this class if you dont want stress
Prof. Wallace is such a nice lady. Sometimes lectures would be boring but then shell make us get in groups & well discuss about our class lectures or essays & that was always helpful. Tough grader on essays though so make sure you do good on your essays because thats what really matters & obviously homework but besides that youll be fine.
Taken Winter 2020. LOVED this professor. She's very sweet and was very accommodating to her students. Winter classes are usually a little more fast paced but she presented the material in a way that made it very enjoyable. You will not regret taking her!
Pretty much the entire grade is made up of 4 essays, each worth increasing percentages. Participation is worth 10% and final is worth 10%. Grades extremely hard on essays and does not give clear criteria for what she expects. Must go to office hours for help if you want an A, but why should this be the case for an online class?
Would highly recommend taking her, its pretty easy you dont get to much hw and when you do its pretty simple. You read 1 book towards the last couple months of the semester then 4 essays throughout. Im horrible at essays and I got an easy B on all of them. I would say the essays can be a bit hard but with her topics it make it easy.
The only thing that counts for your grade is four essays, which grow in grade weight as the semester progresses. The topics for these essays and discussion boards were pretty interesting, but the only problem I had while taking the class was that the prompts for the essays were too broad, and the critiques/how she graded the essays were unclear.
Terrible. Mid. She doesn't give feedback or grade until the last week, so how was I supposed to know what I've been doing wrong?
No extra credit. Terrible professor. Doesn't respond to anything until midnight. Doesn't grade or give feedback until the last week. You literally can't improve your essays because she grades everything so late. I would never take this class again.
Prof. Wallace's class is pretty easy, even when I took it over winter. A few readings, a discussion, and one essay a week. Four essays total: 23 pages, 35 pages, 46 pages, 810 pages (but half of the last essay was copy/pasting the third one), and a final timed essay. Overall easy class, as long as you don't procrastinate on the essays.
did not put in grades for anything until the very last day, super hard to follow, does not make what she wants clear, need to read EVERYTHING as to not miss something, I am a straight A student and I missed things, assignments not easily accessible, treats students like they are dumb
5 essays determine our entire grade. We couldn't make up the essays so there would be no way for us to improve our grades. There was also no extra credit opportunities. She was so unclear with directions and feedback and was a tough grader. It was hard to receive a good grade on essays when I didn't understand the directions. Don't recommend!!
READ THE BAD SCORES! Honestly don’t know how she scored high. She gave feedback for rough drafts; I’ll give her that..but 3 weeks after final submission. Her feedback also made no sense, and you get no response if you reach out for clarification. Every bad review has her spot on; listen. She also grades you almost solely on essays. Good luck.
very personable! very motivating and truly cares about students
Four essays are given throughout the entirety of the course, the first 2 are fine. Last 2 are nightmares with horrible grading criteria and an unrealistic, vague guideline/
I'm sure she's great when you take her class in-person, but online is not her thing. Finding the assignments was like going through a maze. Sometimes she would duplicate assignments without knowing. She doesn't grade you on assignments/discussions, but only on quizzes on the textbook readings and essays. 4 essays totals but takes forever to grade.
