Ms. Wood is amazing. She makes sure the entire class understands a concept before moving on. She gives you her cell phone number in case you need to contact her with anything. She gives many opportunities to get all of your points. Take her class! She is great!
Great person, knowledgable, wants to help you out and makes sure you understand the material. Readily available to answer questions you may have.
Ms. Wood is a wonderful teacher. She is so laid-back, cares about every student and how they do in class, and her class is so fun and intriguing. Take her lab also! She never uses the book so you don't need to purchase one!
Dr. Wood is very laid-back and easy going. She's happy to explain anything you ask about. When she does assign homework or projects, however, she does expect you to do well on them.
Easily one of the best instructors at the UofA. If you put in the effort, she will help you. Very helpful!
GREAT
I took Dr. Wood's class for an easy natural science credit. It was the easiest class I have ever taken. My high middle school natural science class was harder than this! I spent almost no time studying for this class and even skipped class several times and still made an A. Couldn't have asked for an easier A!!!
she is amazing! one of the best teacher I took. She is very funny and makes class enjoyable. don't need a book for this class
Easiest class, super nice, and you'll definitely learn something. She loves what she talks about so its a lot easier to listen to/learn from her. Show up and you pass and, by all means, do NOT buy the book.
The effort you put into this class will determine your grade. If you go to class and study a bit for the tests you should easily get an A. You have no reason to complain about this teacher. If you get a bad grade in this class it is your own fault. Dr. Wood is the type of teacher I would have a beer and be friends with.
She is awesome. All of her tests are on quizlet and are pretty easy. She is very passionate about what she teaches and truly cares about her students. As long as you go to class for the quizzes, you should make an A.
Lisa is amazing. I don't like science, but the class was crazy easy. Don't buy the textbook. Take the honors section if you can and need to because it's just extra discussion sessions that are easy and they buffer your grade (not that you need it). The final is 75% questions from old tests which you get to keep after you take so it's super easy.
Lisa is super cool and her class is easy enough if you show up and study a little for the tests (hint: check quizlet). The lab was the worst part of the class. Dr. Wood knows that science majors were the minority, not the majority in the room and catered the classes to us non-science people. I really learned a lot. TAKE THIS AS YOUR CORE SCIENCE
Easily one of the best professors on campus.
Dr. Wood is easily one of the best professors on campus in my opinion. Plants & Environmental Restoration is a really great class, but you have to put in work learning all the plants. You definitely need to print out and copy the lecture notes if you want to do well on the tests, because she goes very fast in class due to the volume of material.
LOVED THIS CLASS! Generally entertaining. Only tiny complaint is the tests were slightly harder then you would expect, but TOTALLY DOABLE! The lab for this class sucks, but worth it for Lisa. If you need honors credit, take the honors section... you just meet 1 extra time once a month for 2 hours. I LOVE LISA!!!!
I really liked this class until she decided to punish a group of people who cheated by docking everyone's test grade 20 points. Really screwed me for the final.
You literally just have to show up and pass. She gives bonus points especially on days before break. The tests are super easy. The final is 75% questions from the previous tests which you will get answers and 25% from the new chapters. Also the final replaces your lowest test grade. She has random clicker point days and her stories are hilarious.
She decided to change the syllabus 2 weeks before the final... meaning instead of dropping 5 quiz grades she would only drop 2. She is not very consistent and the tests had stuff that we never learned about in class, but she will curve them if everyone has a poor grade. Overall it was stressful and I will never take her again.
Funny and passionate about environmental science
One of the most thoughtful professors! You'll learn so many interesting things from Dr. Wood. The honors section is not hard, though there are more writing exercises/homeworks. Attendance is not mandatory but the lectures rock and there are quizzes usually once a week that you can only take in class (and can't make-up).
Lisa is one of the best teachers I have met on this campus. She is hilarious and thoughtful, she cares after all of us and makes sure we understand that. The class itself is easy if you study beforehand for 1-3 hours. 20% of the class is attendance! She responded to my emails quickly and even let me talk to her on the phone about it! TAKE HER!
Lisa Wood is so much fun. She is really passionate about the class and wants everyone to succeed! There are 3 tests and a final, and the tests are kind of hard but very do-able, and she replaces your lowest test grade with your final(normally an A). 15 in class clicker quizzes (1 per week) Drops lowest 5! She is so fun! Take instead of geology.
Dr. Wood was my favorite professor! In Plant Science she didn't count attendance but she we frequently took open note quizzes in class. If you weren't there to take the notes you probably won't do well on the quiz. Tests were pretty difficult and specific but overall the class wasn't too hard.
Dr. Wood is amazing! I took Environmental Science 1003 with her. She really tries to get everyone interested in environmental science, regardless of your major. If you show up to class, she will try to get to know you. Would take again.
I appreciated that Dr. Wood cares about her students grades and that they pass. This class is easy as heck because of the way she structures the class. She's spreading awareness of serious problems in a really easy to digest pill and I really appreciated that. Things that could get very political never even grazed that. 10/10 loved her. Easy A.
Dr. Wood is a great teacher! she is very funny and relates to her students. She doesn't like tests so she helps out a lot on the exams. For the final, she just used the same questions from old tests so it was easy and the final replaced the lowest test grade. She does in class clicker quizzes. Great teacher definitely take her!
Dr. Wood is one of the most passionate professors that I have ever had. She knows her stuff and really cares about the topics she covers in class. She also cares a great deal about her students and community. Her lectures are info dense and thought provoking. -Spring 19
I absolutely love Dr. Wood. She is extremely passionate and understanding with her students. Her class is run kind of like a family. Though it is all lecture, and some quizzes, it is a very entertaining class. She does not teach you any knowledge that will not benefit you in the future! I wish I could take her again.
If you want to take a class that is much harder than it should be, this is it. Dr. Wood knows what she's talking about, but the way she teaches leaves you behind. If you're not an environmental science major, you'll struggle to keep up. The tests have no criteria on what you should study so you better just pour through it all and hope for the best.
Dr. Wood is my favorite professor! She is so knowledgable in her field and cares about her students. Plant science had mostly quizzes and a few tests. The tests were all based on her lecture powerpoints so you really had to study them. She offered some other assignments too. No attendance. I didn't use the book. The notes are all online.
Generally as laid back as expected, but the material isn't really taught super well. She's not a bad teacher at all, but her slides aren't great. Still, she gives lots of extra credit (if not many people show up you'll probably get 10 free bonus points) Just remember to take the exams seriously (it's easy to forget in this class) and it's an easy A
Dr. Wood is a nice and sweet professor. Lectures are quite heavy with lots of material but its all pretty easy to cover. Theres a textbook but you honestly dont need it. There are pop quizzes, but they always cover stuff from the previous lecture, theyre not bad if you take good notes. The exams might catch you off guard. Extra credit is available.
Honors kids have 1 assignment some weeks, regular students don't have any homework. I wouldn't recommend buying the textbook. (Honors kids will need some of the critical thinking questions from the book, but you can always just ask someone for pictures of the page). Not a difficult class, plus there are many opportunities to get points back! :)
Dr. Wood is so sweet but I think this class was harder than it should have been. We didn't have any homework, just quizzes, participation points, and tests. The tests were so hard though. She never made up study guides. My quizlets for each test were around 200 terms and the tests were only 50 questions. Just seems silly for such a low level class.
Dr. Wood is amazing! Her class is interesting and she is super helpful. Her tests are more difficult than you would expect for a 1000 level with multiple "right" answers and one "more right" answer. She gives extra credit and points for just attending. Also she replaces your lowest test with final test grade (which is easier than any other test).
I would describe this class as a bit more difficult than something like Griffis's Sociology class. This class isn't nearly as braindead as that class was. The questions can be more "tricky" than the questions in that class was. As long as you show up (attendance is free points) and put in a DECENT (not minimum) amount of effort, you'll be fine.
Professor Wood is a great teacher, majority (if not all) of her class is lecture but she provides her powerpoint slides. She gives no homework for NON-honors students and HONORS students did have homework assignments. There are attendance points using clickers every day, and an occasional pop quiz over a chapter. Tests are not too difficult.
Mandatory attendance checks with clickers daily. No homework if you aren't in the honors section, honors section has one assignment a week. Tests are easy if you are good at memorizing definitions. Dr Wood is very nice and patient with students, sometimes a little fast on clicking through slides though. Textbook only if you are in honors.
Professor Wood is so awesome! I took ENSC 1003 with her and it was such an easy A. She knows so much about the material she teaches, which makes it easier to learn. There are attendance points everyday, so as long as you show up to class you'll be set. Would definitely recommend her!
Dr. Wood is a real caring individual who gives you all the tools you need to do well in this class. You can pass by listening to lectures and retaining information (mainly vocabulary) or you can make quizlets and study them before the tests. She really cares about the environment and ecosystem and makes you care too by the end of the semester.
TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! It was probably the easiest class Ive taken so far. 80% of the final was made up of the exact questions that were on our 3 tests and she gave us all the answers beforehand so we could study exactly what we needed to. Shes so so so sweet and cares about her students doing well shes so patient. I love Dr. Wood shes the best!!!
I wish I could give Dr. Wood more than 5 stars! She truly cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed! She really knows her stuff and it is obvious how much she loves her job. Go to class, get those clicker points, pay attention to her lectures (she will make you laugh!) and you will be just fine. She wants everyone to get an A!
tests are hard (in person). the course is very interesting. I Loved it. She is very caring about your grades if you email her she responds fairly soon. I went to tutoring which helped me. go to office hours. extra credit!
Probably the easiest science course offered at the university. Attendance questions daily and random quizzes about one a week (easy). Her lectures are very conversational and she is so funny. If you study the quiz/attendance questions you should get an A on every test. Literally show up and pay attention and you will pass without a doubt.
I loved Dr. Wood! she's a super fun teacher and makes the lectures fun. she gives multiple extra credit options and its clear she just wants you to pass. Clicker quizzes and attendance are frequent and unannounced but if you show up she'll help you. I would totally take more of her classes if I were an ENSC major.
Dr. Wood is the best professor I have taken! She's super nice and really cares about all her students. She does attendance with clickers, so make sure you go!! there is no homework or papers; grades are all based on attendance, quizzes, and tests. some extra credit is available.
Decent class overall. Must go to class to receive clicker points. The tests are a little harder than they should be but the final makes up for it.
Professor Wood is my favorite professor I have had in college! Such a great science credit! She is funny, witty, and gives very enjoyable lectures!! Attendance is mandatory but the clicker questions are easy and the quizzes are open note. Tests are made from a pool of questions she gives you before hand and are very straight forward!!
Dr. Wood was the best. Attendance mandatory but the lectures were entertaining and there aren't any outside assignments so all you have to do is go to class and study for the tests. Study guides make exams really easy--she gives you the questions ahead of time. Honors assignments are easy to complete. Take this if you need a science credit!
Genuinely such an amazing human being and professor. Dr. Wood made every class enjoyable and all material easy to digest. I wish she was a professor in a subject more related to my major so that I could have her every semester. She genuinely wants every student to succeed.
Best professor I have ever had. She really puts a lot of effort into making sure her students pass. Attendance is mandatory for quizzes, but if you go she gives you the answers most of the time. 100% recommend taking.
Engaging and witty professor. I adored Dr. Wood. She based learning around class discussions and her lectures, of which the topic matter was always interesting. The final test is cumulative but uses questions from previous exams verbatim. Provided great study guides and clearly cared about her students. She got us donuts once for a student's b-day!
Dr. Wood was awesome for environmental science. The class itself is super easy and all her tests come straight from smartbooks and in class quizzes. Clicker points are a part of the grade though so you have to go to class but notes really are optional
This class wasn't too bad, my biggest disappointment was being forced to take it online. I wish we had more chances to help our grade. Tests weren't too bad if you watch the lecture and study reviews, you'll be good to go. Don't let the fact that its online have you too relaxed, still have to be on top of things.
This teacher is brutal given the class she's teaching. Takes her job too seriously. Take a different teacher or a different 1000 level science course
This professor is not good. I spent 200$ on lab materials for home this semester. That is just unreasonable when if I was in the actual lab and lecture I wouldn't have to buy the things. She is an incredibly tough grader. She asks you to spend 3 hours on the course each week and you have to spend at least 5 if not more with the 8 hour lab you do.
The amount of time and effort I have had to spend on an online 1 credit hour lab that is an elective science course has been ridiculous. This course could be made so much easier for students. Would NOT recommend. Professor is passionate about the material, which is good, but the workload required for what this class actually is, is insane.
From taking care of a pet minnow to going to a cemetery to collect headstone data which is just weird and makes me uncomfortable. I would have a 4.0 this semester if it weren't for this lab. I am a finance major and this is my hardest class by far. she is rude and not understanding of students. highly recommend never taking her as a professor
It is shocking to see the current rating of professor Wood so high. This has been, without a doubt, the worst class and professor I have had in 4 years at the University of Arkansas. She assigns a ridiculous amount of coursework and does not accept anything late. The exams are 50 comprehensive questions that youll need to study hours for.
Dr. Wood is by far the worst professor I've had. I failed my first exam, reached out to her for advice on studying, followed her advice, and failed the next exam. I have never failed an exam before this, and I studied a lot for both exams. She is not considerate of her students' concerns, and requires extensive work for both the lecture and lab.
Unreasonably time-consuming course. Get ready to spend hours every week (just for the lab not including the actual class) on at home labs where you have to buy the materials for yourself.
Please do not take. Save yourself the trouble
Spending hours a week on a harshly graded at home lab with rigorous instructions is getting very old.
I"ve spent hours every week working for her class. Was not expecting it. Directions aren't very clear. She makes things way harder than they should be. Spend about 4-5 hours every single week working on her lab. She isn't very easy to work with when you try to extend deadlines or anything
Probably the most work ive had to do for a class in all 4 years of college. She makes things so difficult for no reason. Takes up about 5 hours a week working on stuff for her class. I advise everyone never to take this class. She also doesn't accept moving deadlines for any reason. Worst class I have had to take all of college.
She makes things way harder than they need to be. Ive spent about 5 hours a week working on each lab. By far the most work I have had to do for a class in my 4 years of college. Would advise everyone not to take this class.
Hard grading for 5 hours of 1 lab a week.
Save yourself the trouble. Most work I've had to do for a class. Hard grader for no reason and just extremely long assignments. Would not take this class.
This is the most work I have ever had to do for an online class. Very tough grader, not worth taking. Try to avoid
Insane work load for an online class. Not understanding at all. Takes around 4 hours to do her assignments. Avoid at all cost
I think this teacher makes things way harder than they should be. Her labs are very strange and lots of work for no reason. I would not take this class or recommend it to anyone
Her labs are very weird. She made us go to a cemetary and take pictures of graves. She makes the lab worksheets extremely long. She makes her class 100x harder than it should be. Save yourself and dont take this class.
Most work I have had to do in college for 1 class. Have to order over 200 dollars in lab materials. Save yourself the trouble
Took this class thinking it would be a easy lab, boy was I wrong. Several hours worth of work for 1 lab a week. Save yourself and do not take this teacher. Not understanding at all for her student either. Just overall a bad experience.
Terrible class. Takes about 5 hours a week doing each lab. Teacher isn't very easy to work with either. I would advise people not to take this class.
I took this online lab to give myself an easier semester, since I knew it would be loaded up with other things. This lab has made it worse. I was not able to complete my lab one week due to my workload outside of school, and she would not give me an extension to make it up. I have never met a professor who is so incosiderate of their students.
I took this course in order to help make my schedule a bit easier. Why wouldn't it. An online freshman level one credit hour lab? Environmental science, I like nature, nature is cool. Right? WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! This class is ridiculous. The professor is hard to work with, makes the labs incredibly difficult, and is a harsh grader. DO NOT TAKE THIS
Dont take. Headache of a class
So much work for what I thought was going to be an easier online class. Lots and lots of time are dedicated to this class every week. Have to buy over $200 in lab materials as well. I would advise students not to take it
This lab is ridiculous , would advise everyone not to take it. This is the worst class I have taken in my 4 college years. Just take a in person lab to save you the trouble she makes everyone go through for the class. Multiple hours of work per week for 1 lab. She's not very understanding either
I took the online class and loved it. She was very clear about what she wanted and always gave us more information than we should have when it came to tests or things in general. She was very easy to reach and when I asked for extension due to unforeseen circumstances, she was very understanding and helped me out.
1000 level science class that we all are required to take, Lisa Wood makes it as brutal as possible. It seems like she doesn't understand that 95% of her students can't devote their lives to environmental science. She assigns more work than any of my other classes. Does not give clear instruction on the exam content either. Horrible teacher
Just finished this class, DON'T TAKE IT. After the final, we were not allowed to discuss grades with her until after they were posted to WorkDay. In the syllabus, there were supposed to be four dropped quizzes to help your grade, but she never told us if she did this or not. Overall, she is not considerate of her students. Take a different science!
If you want to spend hours going to random places to find items needed for your lab, take this class! I spent around $500 on supplies for this class, which is ridiculous. If you do not have one item, though, you lose a lot of points on assignments. She also sent a rude message to the class about her Rate My Professor. Beware!
