sucked
Lisa is great! The course is hard because of the material, not her!Exams are tough but she is very generous with extra help & extra credit. She's very willing to help you do the best you can. She's intelligent and has a good sense of humour. Take her if you like a challenge! College isn't easy!
This class is extremely difficult, though the professor does everything possible to help students understand the material. She is tough, but fair. You will learn a great deal, but have to 'earn' your grade.
this class is required as you all know but must be done...lisa is very helpful considering the material and wants her students to inderstand to the best of their ability. Her canadian/southern accent makes her a true individual!!!! She's very cute and likeable...
Very difficult class but Lisa tries to make it understandable/interesting. Many opportunities to improve your grade for those who put in the effort. The course material is horrible, but Lisa is energetic, fun, and cute which makes the class okay. I think she'd be great for another class!
The course material is not terribly interesting, but Prof Zilney does her best to make it so. She offers lots of extra credit opportunities and will respond to email very quicly if available take her courses!!
ok class is hard but lisa does a lot to make the class fun, and mind you she is nice to look at so it makes the class go by. Especially when she writes on the blackboard! If you know what i am saying.
She gives too much work and not enough time to complet the work. She makes you stressed out. She makes the class very hard and I woudl not recommend her!
she is very unfair, and very hard grading, i will not recommend her at all. if she likes you, you'll not problems but if she doesn't you're in big trouble.
sucked!!!do not take her, avoid her...not a good teacher, can't teach...
Takers herself WAY to seriously. Get ready for a crazy workload and no exceptions.
Dr. Zilney's tests are very hard but so is the subject matter. She gives 3 additional projects which she will spend all weekend correcting via email until you get an A. If you don't seize those opportunities, you won't do as well, but utilize that, show up for class, do the extra credit and you will do well even if you did bad on the exams.
This class is so hard! Prof. Zilney works harder than any other professor at MSU to help you succeed. There is a lot of work, but if you put in the effort and take advantage of blackboard and office hours, you will earn a good grade. Lisa knows a lot about methods and tries to make the class interesting. Great professor, very hard class.

This was a very difficult class. However, she does her best to make it interesting. I have learned more from this class than any other. Professor Zilney is very intelligent and I would highly recommend her.
She is great. Easy if you follow her instructions and summer classes with her are easy. Dont take the class if you are unwilling to put effort into it though.
Intensive summer writing class crammed into 3 weeks. Very interesting material with a lot of opportunity for discussion. No exams but over 11 reflective papers are assigned. Lisa does a great job leading this class and it's very informative. You will learn something! Be prepared to read and write!
lisa is the the best professor i have ever had, and i am awesome so take her!!but get ready to work (this is college)
class is easy. 2 page paper due every week..very helpful will let you redo a paper if you dont like the grade you got
Very strict, not very helpful, poor people skills
Came off really tough in the first week. But really turned on that around during the semester as 80% of the class dropped the course. No exams,a 4 page reaction papers are due every week on readings/videos. Also a 7 page case study paper that you need to give a CASUAL speech on. A great professor, but the workload was a lot. Pleasing to eye as well
Miss Zilney is SEXY!!! Class was hard because it was incredibly boring, and at times Miss Z was sort of a smart A**. Hard to give her what she is asking for, but if you choose a easy topic, ot makes the class a little easier.Wish i could of worked sumtin out wit her on a date to better my grade and for myself.
TO MANY PAPERS REQUIRED AND GRADING PROCESS WAS VERY HARD
Lisa's class is very challenging. Isn't that what college is about? She is very willing to help and also gets to know who you are and remembers your name-which does not happen very often with professors at MSU. If you want to be very prepared for senior research- take her for methods it will help you more thant you know!
Lisa is the best !
Nice looking lady...but a real nightmare and she is not clear. Do not waste your time because she does not explain herself and wants you to but in much more work than needed to past the class.
Course material interesting. Lots of writing, but you can redo all assignments for a higher grade. Lots of comments on papers, very helpful if you go to office hours. Not an easy class, but info is good, prof is informed (and hot!)
REQUIRES TO MUCH WRITING
Films and lectures good. Very helpful one-on-one! You must go to class and participate and read hte book to get a good grade. Great prof.
good professor, but class is way too hard. too many notes, tests are CRAZY HARD, project is 6 stages & a pain in the @ss. unfortunately u need it to do an internship though. great professor tho-always available outside of class 24/7!
Just a really great teacher, very smart, gets you thinking about the reality of our society. Discusses material other prof. ignore. Recommended!

She is very grounded and real (she will be like, ok this is boring and we need a break), demands your best performance and you cannot sneak anything over on her. if you do, she will call you out on it and laugh at you. Relates course info to interesting topics, ie violence, etc.
She is very nice and approachable but dont confuse that with an easy grade. She's very demanding and expects a lot - Yes, being late will cost you! However, the course is hard on its own. No way around the 6-step project cuz is required by the dept. She offers lots of extra credit (you'll need it). Hard course = The best professor for the subject.
class is hard in general, had it in the summer, strongly suggest taking this class in summer if you can. down to earth professor, knows that the subject is boring and helps to make it less boring, cuts class time in summer to get out early
very very very hard class!!! lisa is a huge help! available 24/7 on email, easy to talk to, has candy in her office, very down to earth. if u want a good grade u really need to work hard but this is the prof to take! be on time for class and pay attention and u wont hear the smarta** comments
She makes you work alot for just 1 credit and she grades hard at the start of the semester but if she see's that you are trying and putting in the effort your grades will improve alot
Extremely hard class but she is such a good teacher!! The material is really hard to grasp but she always explains it in a way that makes it understandable. Completely down to earth, lets class out early, but expects work to be up to par. GREAT and really fast at responding back to your emails-always a plus!! TAKE HER!
coolest teacher at montclair, very friendly with students and as long as your not a prick she will like you. def recommend her for any class she takes, some papers but as long as ur not an idiot u get an A...great professor
very interesting class about justice and animals! wasn't all that interested in the course at first, but it got clear thru the semester ~ learned a ton of things that i wouldn't learn in another class!
Lisa is the best professor ever!!! She makes this very difficult class much easier. She knows what she talks about, very clear. Besides that she is easy to talk to, helful and ALWAYS there for you if you need any help. if you have to take this class take her!
At first I really did not like her, but she grew on me. By the end of the semester, I understood her and I actually enjoyed her. Follow the syllabus EXACTLY as it is written and do the required readings (I can't stress that enough) from the beginning of the semester (there are weekly quizzes based on the reading). Not a bad teacher, at all.
I think that she gives way too much work for a 3 credit class.. And I felt that she favored certain ppl.
She definitely has her favorites, but she is a very intelligent, humorous and open-minded professor. You must "work" to get a good grade, because class materials can be very new sometimes. The hardest part about this class was step 1 of the methodology project.
Lisa's methodology class, not easy. At first disliked her though she was biggest pain in the behind but she grows on you. By the end of the semester hottest instructor ever, MUY CALIENTE! Very accomodating if you need help. Study chapter extra credit & handouts questions are on exams.
Animals&Justice was a great class. There was a lot of work but it was definitely an experience. 2hr community service/wk (which can be used on resume), wkly reflections, 20 slide ppt & 5pg paper for the end along w/ the occasional wkly assignments/readings but it was material that was easy to reflect on esp. if you care at all about animals.
She is wonderful! Not an easy class but once you get the hang of how she likes things, you can def get an A. Everything is worked out from a points system. She is very helpful and always available outside of class. You need to read! Otherwise you will lose out on In-class assignments
Very "no-nonsense" professor, you must be prepared to work and hand things in on time! Otherwise, she is very helpful and easy to get in touch with if you need help. She is also probably the hottest professor at MSU!
Great professor! Extremelly helpfull in-class and after! This course requires a lot of work, yet she is there to help. Possible 20pts extra credit!Plus exams are not hard.
Professor is a good teacher but she gives a load of work and you need to study to get a good grade and she may be very anal about little mistakes on papers and so follow every direction. Your grade counts.
She is a terrible teacher I dont know who is leaving all these comments about her being a great teacher? She doesnt explain herself She doesnt help people if they seek her out Her test are impossible. Avoid her!!!
Class is very hard but prof is willing to help whenever you need it! Go to office hours, meet after class, if you ask her she will stay as long as you want. I have emailed her tons of times and she always gets right back to me with help. Test was hard but was a take home-if you cant pass a take home you should be taking the class again.
This lady gives waaaay to much work for one class if you want to pull your hair out youll take this terrible professor who makes you rely on the textbook instead of teaching you stuff! This class will bog you down if your taking a full load.
Had her for Criminology. Very easy and clear. She required students to show up to class for each lesson to take the quiz, but the quizzes were always 10 multiple choice open-book -so needless to say, it wasn't hard to get a good grade. The very few papers we had to write were fairly easy as well.
AWFUL PROFESSOR!!!! SAVE YOURSELF!!!!!!!!! DO NOT TAKE HER!!! WROTE HER OWN BOOK!!! SHES A LAME!!!!!!!!!!
Lisa is amazing and helpful. If you're ready to actually do work, think, and participate in class she is more than willing to help you with whatever you need. Not easy, but fair- and really funny. If you don't like her, you're probably an idiot who can't effectively use grammar, or their brain, in general.
First of all, she's not hot. Second, she can be EXTREMELY rude in emails because shes not brave enough to say it in person. Her class is not that bad as long as you do the work and ON TIME! late assignments are unacceptable. But all in all good class to take and it can be fun.
I loved this class online! If you follow directions and do all assignments you will have no problem. She responds to emails fast. Everything was great for me. I didn't need this class but took it and didn't regret a dime spent. She also is a great listener. Take her!!! (o: SC
Took one of her classes 6 years ago and still talk about what I learned. A lot of work, but well worth it. Hopefully the book "Damned Lies and Statistics" is still a requirement - what an eye-opener. You may not realize now what a great professor she was, but you'll remember her for years to come. (don't remember class code or #)
Crazy hard winter session class! Would not allow late assignments no matter what, and was a smart a$$ in emails when I needed an extension. Graded fair, great feedback on papers, overall awesome online course but alot of work!!!
if you are already enrolled in this class get out fast shes the worst shes rude immature and doesnt know the material she teaches
Really enjoyed the material & the way it was taught! Grades hard but fair! If you have questions just ask and she'll answer...I don't know what others are complaining about, she's WAY helpful and answers email right away if you have a last minute question!!!!
She is very very very unclear on her assignments she gives you opinionated questions to answer when you answer them you get no credit she want you to copy from her book
Class is very difficult. She wants you to read, and expects that you will do so. There are also 4 LARGE projects due throughout the semester, + other assignments + reading. No tests. Heavy workload, but she is a good professor. Lots of work, show up to every class, do every assignment. The ppl who did poorly never showed up, and didnt do the work
It's the easiest class I've ever taken. Yes you have to read. Yes you have to put effort in. I actually learned something and I love taking her classes.
One of the best and easiest professors I've ever taken. The effort put into the class is worth it, if you really want to learn something new a different. Course layout is clear, direct and not that difficult. You pretty much have to be an idiot or a bum or even both to fail this class. No exams and plenty of opportunity for extra credit.
syllabus is clear and she gives ample time for assignments.Good amount of work but it is more to prove that you have done the reading. No exams just essay's and projects. I love her classes I think I actually learn something. She is also very willing to help and work with students as long as they are willing to put the work in. Take her!
Avoid her if you can. Her class is not that bad but there is a lot of work. She is a very tough grader! She assigns work without even explaining how to do it. She assigns work and won'teven mention it in class, except to say that it is due. I have received my first C EVER from her. My English teachers didn't even grade papers as hard as she did.
This was my fourth class with her & she is an amazing teacher. She requires a decent amount of course work but it is all laid out in the syllabus, which she goes over in the beginning of the semester. She gives good feedback and is knowledgeable about the subjects being taught. I've learned so much and have interests in other areas because of her
Professor Zilney is an extremely tough teacher that wrote the textbook for the course. If you do not cite almost every line from homework, she will deduct a lot of points. Basically she wants to know that you are looking over every word in this book because she wrote it. Also had a lot of work assigned, would not recommend.
She is a very difficult professor. If you don't have time to visit her during office hours, do not take her. She is a very tough grader and picky. She not always clear about her directions. The class is boring and hard as it is and she does not make it anymore pleasant. She is not a bad person but avoid her for this class if you can.
She is by far the worst professor I have ever taken and I am strongly considering dropping her course. She is EXTREMELY rude and her sarcasm is unappreciated. I take my school work very seriously and she's NOT helpful. She also gives ENTIRELY way too much work. As if her class is the only one you're taking. Stay away if possible.
Really interesting class. Alot of work, but she teaches mostly 400 classes, so I expect more work than a 200 class. She really knows about sex offenders and this will teach you things you'll never learn anywhere else! Definitely take it!
LOVE this class! Learned so much about animals I never knew about before! Great videos and lectures, interesting readings. Alot of work, but fair grader.
She's terrible. She is very rude, immature, and does not care about her students. She is also very sarcastic. She can be nice, but it is very rare. It is not exactly a hard class but she is a tough grader. If you can avoid the class, do not take it, I know I regret taking it.
interesting material. hard grader. i had a problem in the semester and went to talk to her and she was very helpful. is sarcastic but that seems to be her humor. i really like this class and learned alot.
does not care about her students. She is also very sarcastic. REALLY HARD GRADER! gives way too much work too many essays and too many disscussions! i dont recommend this class
Professor is great. There's a lot of work but, as long as you follow her directions from the syllabus and hand everything in on time the course isn't too bad. Tests are open book and done online. Also do the extra credit.
Does not really teach gives outrageous amount of assignments not helpful hard grader. Over all lost all interst in this class
She isn't helpful at all. I took her course online and the first few weeks were confusing eventually she made a routine for posts and quizzes. Maybe she's nicer in person but she online she comes off a bit rude. She's a hard grader! I wouldn't recommend her if theres an easier professor teaching the course.
Took her for a 3 week summer course and was easily the worst decision I've ever made. Assigns a ridiculous amount of work and holds such high expectations for it to all be perfect. Gives ridiculously harsh feedback on outlines basically degrading you. Does not understand that there is more to life than her course.
This was a post session 3 week course. Alot of work. Definitely had to read the book and make that clear in the assignments. Grading was harder than in many classes in JUST. Gave alot of feedback on work. Liked the class overall and learned alot about drugs.
Do not ask this professor any questions. She seems bothered when her students email her regarding questions on assignments. She is a tough grader and will drop your grade if you incorrectly site sources. She is unhelpful in her instructions and will respond to your emails in a way that makes you feel helpless and inferior. She makes you feel stupid
I definitely enjoyed her class! It's a fair amount of work.. she gives you 4 options for paper topics and requires you to do two of them, 4 pages minimum each, which is not bad! The due dates for the 2 papers are spread out throughout the semester! There's online quizzes based on the reading which helps your grade! No midterm, no final! Great prof!
Assigned two out of four options of 4 page papers, but first day of class gave notice of when they would be due. Attendance not mandatory, but show up, do the quizzes (really help grades) and submit the papers on time and you should be good. Good professor and planning on taking for another class
Lots of discussion boards and a couple of quizzes. No big tests. One paper that is two pages long and then you can revise it. You choose from four topics with different due dates. Then one three page paper about a sex offender. Extra credit assignment if you want. Interesting films over the semester, discussions are good, but quite a bit of work.
i loved her and this class. She tries to scare you away from saying how much work it is, but it wasnt hard at all. 2 four page papers, and weekly quizzes online but the answers are right in the textbook. no midterm or final. class isnt mandatory. this is an easy a if you just put effort in. would def take this class again, shes a great teacher
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS I'm warning you if you want an A do not take her, she gives a quiz every week online its timed but you have to read more than 20 pages for one quiz , she's a very tough grader not very approachable, when you ask her a question she's very sarcastic not helpful at all the quiz, wish i had a different professor for this course
This is the first class online ive taken with her. The class started in September and its now November and she hasnt graded one single thing, and we have had things do every single week since the school l year has started. i have no idea what my grade is. in person she isnt bad, but probably wouldnt take another online with her
Overall great professor, quiz every week online through canvas its hard to fail if the book is in front of you (easy quizzes), 2 essays and she gives extra credit. No midterm , no final. She doesn't lecture heavy she loves to hear our thoughts on subjects as well. I recommend her.
Don't be afraid! If this class is the only one available you could do it! Make sure that you READ! There is a quiz every week, (pay attention to the stats. in textb, and mini details for quizzes) (11 total). Participate in class, do the extra credit (2)! You will learn alot, but you definitely work for your grade! Don't be discouraged!
Professor Zilney is wonderful! I would 100% take another class she teaches in a heartbeat. She engages in active discussion with the class. There are quizzes every week, but they are online. The material is super interesting. She truly is passionate about Justice in our society. There is also extra credit available a few times over the semester.
no midterm or final - but 2 major research papers - its not that bad but you definitely have to pay attention in class, she helps & tells you exactly what to write in class for the paper - DO NOT PROCRASTINATE the paper
1) cruel grader, unforgiving with criteria guidelines. Missing an assignment or two will lead to an F. She will tell you to withdraw. 2) requires way too much work and reading for all major assignments, be prepared to pretend you're a grad student 3) recycles old material, uninteresting lectures, requires text but never uses in class 4) 2/5
I took her online and we just finished our final paper and she is very demeaning and belittling. Shes a hard grader. She was very disrespectful in her comments on the paper. The discussions were fine and so were the quizzes. She just is very rude and beligerant at points. I don't plan on taking her again.
I took this professor online for an elective, thinking the class would be interesting. She completely ruined the subject for myself. She is one of the worst professors I have ever dealt with. She is a harsh grader and a citation maniac. If your citations are not correct you will lose a lot of points. I would suggest finding another professor.
Wildlife trafficking class. Interesting material. Discussion boards and power point assignment. She is ridiculous about citations. Make sure you cite and you will get a good grade! Not too many assignments, extra credit. Available during office hours and for help if you need it.
Crazy hard class. Don't miss class or you won't pass. Cite papers or you'll lose a ton of points. Helpful teacher if you ask during office hours. Can be sarcastic. I've had her for four classes once you know what she wants its pretty simple.
Extremely tough grader, do not take her class.
This was an online class that the professor took way too serious. She marked my paper down from 20 points to 16.4 because i was ONE sentence shy of a 2 page paper that is due almost every week for the semester. The work load is a lot. Although I did find the books interesting, I began to skim through them because of how many assignments were due.
Really interesting class on animals. Not a ton of work. She is particular about citations, so be careful. I loved this class though! Mostly discussion boards, and a book essay on a great novel. Learned a lot!
Not as interesting as the animal class, but still good. Not a lot of work, but you have to read and you will get deductions for not citing, ugh! Short papers, discussion boards, and a PowerPoint of whatever you want. Pretty easy elective and the topics are good. Easy to reach if you need help.
Honestly the worst professor at MSU. DO NOT TAKE. If I could giver a 0, I would.
Absolutely do not take. One of those professors that makes it clear they don't care about their students, especially now during a pandemic. Extremely tough grader and is rude while giving feedback or sending out announcements.
So much interesting material in this class! Really made me think about issues I had never thought about before regarding animals! You need to read and complete all assignments, but grading is fair. Make sure to use citations!
Very interesting class that focused on laws for sex offenders. Interesting discussions about how laws impact family members. Good relation to other JUST courses.
Took this class because I had an extra slot in my schedule. I do not regret it! Professor Zilney's criteria was straightforward and her feedback on every quiz was helpful. You have to be self-reliant, as with any online class, but I would recommend this course to anyone with an interest in criminal justice.
Very good professor that always gets the lecture across. She is quick and concise with her points and she wastes no time explaining what are on the slides. You will always leave early and attendance is not mandatory. She can be a tough professor but she is fair and the assignments are not that bad for a mandatory course.
Great professor
Tough grader, but lectures are clear. Use Unstuck ai and stay on top of assignments to do well. Not the most engaging, but fair if you put in the work.
Professor Zilney does communicate on the syllabus on what she expects. There are four discussion posts and quizzes throughout the semester. She also provides the opportunity for extra credit. There was a lot of reading excepted but it wasn't a surprise since it's a level 400 course. Just make sure you make time to read and take notes from the text
I took two classes with her and going to take another one next semester. She's great. She gives a lot of easy quizzes/homeworks, she gives 3 day period grace for every assignment and quiz. She reviews your homework if you send it to her 48hrs before is due, so it's an easy A.
I loveeeeeee Professor Zilney. Her classes are heavy reading, but I enjoy the readings, and she cares about her students. If you do the work it is an easy A.
