This Professor is the best english teacher ever. She is lots of fun and she grades fairly. Just do your homework and your sure to get a good grade.
We went the whole semester without getting any papers returned. None of us even knew our grades because work that we turned in though the semester hadn't been graded. What a joke.
A seriously bad teacher! Kinda easy but really lazy and won't return papers.
Best teacher ever. Very helpful Iam not sure what the students graded her on but she was the best teacher ever I got an A. Allows you to do extra credit if needed.
She ROCKS!!!! so easy and cool she is always late but who cares...do the work and you will get ur A+
Even i think that i was the only one in the class that felt this way. i have to say that i loved this class, as well as the teacher. At the end of the semester i felt that i couldn't wait to take her for enlish 1302
i loved her teaching methods. she applied real life situations to literature with a sense of humor. if you start to struggle in her class (like i did) express genuine concern that you care about your grade AND make the effort to improve and she will take notice. I started off with 72 and ended with a 97.
I'd have to agree with the student below. I dropped this class in late Oct.because I had yet to get a real grade because she was too lazy to grade our papers. She'd come to class unprepared and late almost everyday. Very high school quality in my opinion.
She's fun and made the stories interesting. She really loves literature and it shows in her teaching. Sometimes she gave us our papers later than she said she wanted but she was always helpful. IF you work and pay attention in class, she'll help you. If you don't and just expect her to give you an A then its your problem not hers.
We did pop culture and writing and watched shows like The Simpsons and Buffy. Then we'd write papers analyzing them. She's demanding but really nice and helpful to people who worked. Sometimes she got impatient with people but I heard she had a cancer scare or something. So I guess that's why she was a little disorganized. Anyway, she rocks!
DO NOT TAKE THIS WOMAN!!!She's horrible. She doesnt ever give you a prompt about an essay, you have to "analyze" things and write about that and just free write. and then it will take her 5 weeks to grade one paper and she'll return them back the DAY before your second paper is due. shes always ten mins late...shes terrible. dont take her.
Teacher expects too much out of students. Took her for the summer, tried to make contact she never wrote me back. She thinks everyone is an English major. Do not take her if you are not strong at English.
She's a great person and you may think her class is easy but when you get your grades back you'll be surprised at how hard she grades.
she teaches well, but she gets really annoyed at the littelist tihngs, like a sneeze...
I am taking her online class now. She is not hard but not easy. She is very good at making sure that you set up your papers correctly. She also offers lots of feedback on them. I currently have a B+ and expected to do a lot worse. She response to emails quickly and seems eager to help if needed.
She is passionate about Literature. If you're looking for an A, you better show up to class - lots of in class writing/grades. She grades very hard. If you love literature, shes your teacher. I took for Lit II and she is good but not easy.
She's a terrible teacher. She's hard to keep up with, and the class is ridiculously boring. Half the class dropped.
Usually late to class. Painfully slow to grade assignments. Gives group work without adequate context. Discussion or essay questions based on material not in textbook or lecture notes. Fiercely liberal; she finds injustice in everything, then twists the facts to support her thesis. If her class were a car, it would be unsafe at any speed.
she was religiously late to class, she was tardy a lot, she doesnt answer a lot of questions, she ended up cutting off half the reading assignments, her class is bloated with absurd discussions so expect a lot of those and no communication, she grades slowly, assignments are not too difficult but her final one is quite a whopper. AVOID HER.
This was by far the worst teacher i have ever had! She put us in groups and made everyone in the group responsible for the groups grade. well one of my partners got sick and did not show up. He had 25% of the project with him. since we did not have the material and we did not have him there to present we all made a 50! I had to drop cause of her!
she is always late. we have four websites for our class and different assigments posted on each. her directions are unclear and she never keeps a deadline.
Semester almost over and she has only graded a few journal assignments. She seemed very disorganized and was difficult to understand her instructions sometimes. She requires alot of reading. Really disliked this class.
I took this professors class fall 2011. She failed to grade 5 of my assignments and I nearly failed her class because of it. I have emailed her repeatedly to get this corrected and she has yet to do it. I felt that she was extremely disorganized and doesn't care that my GPA is low because of her failure to do her job.
It's end of the sem no grades Entire class we had problems with the assignments excuse for not having anything graded is because she is busy with other classes I paid full price for this class dispite a DL class SO I should have just as much graded as in class Peer review for everything, HUGE inconvenience for those of us working horrible class
She was very laid back and easy going, but did not grade assignments very fast at all. She had excuses that her other classes were taking up her time. Made us feel like we weren't as important. She was a very nice lady, but not very good at getting back to you about questions and stuff.
I took this class online. She was ok,but was not very clear on assignment instructions. Still got a 97 in her class. Did not grade papers on time.
Okay, so she's super nice and obviously passionate about the subject but she uses WAY too many resources. She's also a bit scatter brained... You have a class blog, a text book, and about six other readings plus whatever else she assigns. I enjoy writing but she made this class so frustrating. I wouldn't suggest taking her..
Horrible quality, very nice lady but should not teach. You will not know your grade until the very end of the semester. You really dont do anything in the class until the last week. She will dump three papers and final on you because she has to have grades. AVOID this Prof. if at all possible!!!
She doesn't require a lot of writing but she hasn't graded my essays which I need to re-use on my final. She doesn't require a final exam but does require a webfolio of your three best essays.
The only advice I can give about this teacher is to stay as far away from her class as possible. She never gets to class on time and she is all over the place when she's teaching. I would weigh other options for Eng 1301
This teacher is, ok. I personally found her class to be really easy (i've had harder teachers), but that being said I always showed up, checked her syllabus, online posts.. etc. She's a bit disorganized so you really have to keep up with whatever she throws at you, doesn't go by her syllabus and puts very few grades in out of all the ones you do.
She will help with any problem you have, as long as you pay attention.
This teacher was the worst teacher I have ever had. She says,"I told you all to do this assignment and never did." She uses around four different sites to give out home work, and does not clarify when the assignment is due. I have never had a B in a class, and the reason why I received this grade was her fault.
Avoid this teacher!! She will not grade a single thing until the final day of the semester when grades are due. She doesn't require a book. You will just write a bunch of essays that she never grades. She is all over the place when it comes to assignments. The final project is a real pain!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Professor is very passionate and willing to help. She made me look forward to coming to class. A lot of writing assignments, but it's a composition class, so expect it. Her class isn't too hard if you do everything in a timely manner. The only thing I didn't like was the late input of grades.
I took this class for dual credit while I was still a senior in high school, and she made it a good "intro to college" class. She was pretty tough, but if you try and read everything she tells you too, you'll easily pass with an A.
Professor BC is absolutely wonderful. Without her help on my final project, I would have been completely lost. She's the best and I would definitely recommend.
She is very smart and professional teacher. She use scholarly words while she talk. She sometime gives extra credit opportunity. She gives allot of reading but little writinghomework and tests.
She was a pretty cool teacher. A little disorganized but other and she doesn't put in grades till a few days after the semester is over. She has interesting lessons and the reading assigned to the class Is easy and good.
She will not help even if you talk to her about your struggles. However, she does is always running late so she will not cover much and you have more time to figured anything out by yourself. Also, you will not know your grade until the last day of school.
she is really lazy. She doesn't grade papers until the last min. She doesn't teach much but her class is quite easy coz we don't do much.
Love her as a person, didn't learn anything in this class, the day before the final she took all the material off the website
Worst teacher I've had at TCC so far. Her expectations are unclear and she almost never updates the calendar so you'll have no clue when somethings due because shes late all the time and absent the rest so she constantly changing due dates and such and doesn't put any grades in until the end. Also she lost my paper put in a 0 the day before break.
***You won't find a better professor*** I have taken all my prerequisites at TCC and this is the best professor I've ever had. She is extremely intelligent, interesting, and inspiring.
There are no tests in this class, just a lot of reading and ALOT of writing. So much writing is assigned, that the papers take forever to be graded and subsequent work keeps getting pushed back, due dates are constantly in flux and a constant level of uncertainty abounds.
Blanco-Cerda usually explains a good overview of what she wants, but I often was confused as to the particular details of her projects. However she kindly answered my questions, and was available during office hours. She is vocal on her political views. She is a good teacher, but I don't feel like I've learned anything of substance from her.
You get to use the textbook very religiously, as in writing one pagers every week. No exams, but you have to create a mid-term portfolio and final portfolio with all the papers you've written. She grades the final by how much you've progressed during the semester. She's very inspirational during lectures. If you write everything on time, easy A.
She's very helpful and understanding which is great for someone like me who hates writing. The homework was easy and there were no exams, just two portfolios and the papers throughout the semester. She spent a lot of time explaining what she wanted and taught very well
She is the worst professor I've ever take. She didn't show up half of my semester or we had to go to the library to work on our papers. She didn't grade anything or give any feedback to help her students until the end of the semester. She is a tough grader. DO NOT TAKE HER
She talks a lot with little substance. The projects are very time consuming and they're not explained too well :/
I've always had difficulties on writing. This class is pretty challenging and at times its rare for her to help. Don't get me wrong she's charming and funny, but when it comes to these assignments, it's insane. She's also very disorganized on due dates and schedules. She's very strict when it comes to attendance. Be ready for written papers its ALOT.
She knows her stuff, but is disorganized and usually either late or absent from class. Your assignments won't be graded until last minute, which is not very helpful as all of her assignments build upon the last. If you can stand the chaos, then her class is an easy A. You will have a semester-long project, but it is actually fun to work on.

She is an awesome professor. For all papers, journals, etc. she provides rubrics for each one laying out exactly what she is looking for. She gives good feedback as well. She's a little slow on grading but I'm sure she is a busy person but still gives time to students to ask questions and get answers. I really enjoyed her class and her teaching.
took the 8 week online class, u have about 8 discussion boards n responses u have 2 complete 4 journal entries like 11 quizzes sometimes 3 in week class seems easy in a way but when it comes 2 being a little disorganized thats her didnt get my grades till after spring break all the discussion boards n journals only got grades for 2 of them Gud Luck
Unresponsive to emails, extremely harsh feedback on papers.
This class was almost like a part time job. 2 major projects but one is due during midterm and one at the end of semester. I have one more class meet up (finals day) and I still don't know my grade. I have done SOOOOO many assignments, about 20+ and only 3 has been graded. She is direct but sweet. Hope she puts more effort in grading...
Do not listen to bad reviews. She is amazing. She is strict but you will learn and she grades based on effort. Do not miss class and do everything the syllabus says, trust me on this. She is fair. Do not worry if she does not post your grades you will be fine if you made a good honest effort in your work.
This teacher is terrible. DO NOT TAKE HER for comp 1. Brutal grader, and the work is ridiculous. She thinks you only have her class and no life outside of school with how much work there is. Not to mention you have to do 8 hours of community service for her class And your final is about the 8 hours of service ALL while you write a long mid term.
Dont recommend at all, very scattered and expects a lot.
Prof Blanco-Cerda is highly discredited. She does have higher expectations and makes you work for an A, but isnt that what college is? Of course if you dont show up to class or read the two chapters before class, shes going to not grade you highly. Shes a great college professor because she TEACHES rather than hands out As. Would take again.
She is such a wonderful Professor that I will be taking another of her courses next semester online. Honestly the work is easy to understand what needs to be done, but it does require a fair amount of time. Highly recommend her
I took her for my Engl 2 class and I love her. She is very intelligent and these ratings do her no justice. We had a semester long project but it was not as bad as you think. Read read read the syllabus and do what she asks. There is usually a rubric that shows what she is looking for. I would definitely take her again. She makes you work for it.
I took her online class, and she said there would be discussion boards and assignments that we would have to complete, but no assignments were put up anywhere on our course page. The only thing posted that you could complete was the final exam.
Prof. Blanco-Cerda is a very funny and helpful professor! There is a lot of reading assignments in this class, and if the class doesn't read them you'll all have to write a paper. There is a ton of work as there is a mini-research paper, a semester-long project, and lots of 1-2 page papers. But, if you can handle the work load you'll do fine.
Great Professor! Took Dr. Blanco-Cerda during our most unprecedented times of Covid-19 and she was more understanding than anyone. Even before the situation, she has always been awesome with us and very understanding about anything and everything. If I wasnt done with my degree I would take her courses again!
*NOTE I took this class Spring 2020 when COVID-19 cases broke out and forced the school to transition to online learning. I enjoyed her class, but I wouldn't take it again. She is very passionate about literature, but she can be sometimes disorganized. There is a lot of reading so be cautious of your time. She is a fine teacher if you do the work
Took her a few semesters ago. She was a bit disorganized but it's nothing much. I do remember that she gave great feedback and even though her class was hard, it did help me become a better writer. I remember sometimes feeling discouraged because of her tough grading, but I finished class feeling like I learned a lot. I'd definitely take her again.
I took Dr. Blanco-Cerda in the Spring semester when COVID was just spreading. In the classroom setting, she was amazing. She is very passionate about literature and sometimes teaches us by asking questions. We did not have any exams, and since COVID arrived in the world, she asked us the students what we would like to do for final grades.
INFO: This is during the pandemic. She cares about helping you understand things, but she doesn't explain anything at all. She just says it and then expects you to get it. She gives little instructions when giving out assignments, yet has high expectations for the assignment.
Professor Blanco-Cerda is an awesome professor. She is very engaging and helps students to really understand and enjoy the material. Class work is pretty manageable. If you do your work, you will do well. Good class.
I took her online class because of covid and it was the worst class I have ever taken in my life. She barely responds to emails, she gives you a 0 for things you turn in, and If you are one day late on an assignment, 0.. I sent an email to her about extra creds for all the 0s she gives on Oct 7 and its now Nov 19, still no response. Save your time
She says the get the book but I never did and I did just fine. She has PowerPoints that lay out everything you need to know for class. The assignments were easy enough though the instructions made it sound intimating. For the first 6 or 7 weeks of class no grades were put in and it takes weeks for her to put in any grades after that.
Her grading criteria are not clear. Sometimes you need to know whether you are improving or not, but when you check your grades you find 0. Absolutely no extra credit and be ready to drown in piles of books reading. She won't respond to emails you will have to use Microsoft teams.
I took her class online in the spring because of Covid. She believes in ungrading - which is you deciding your own grade (she was the ultimate grader though). I really enjoyed the papers that we did. It was a lot of our own research, but she was always available in email and teams.
I have mixed feelings about Professor Blanco-Cerda. She's very passionate about what she teaches. Only problem is she doesn't teach. Didn't really learn anything from her herself, mainly learned from YouTube videos she made us watch. Oh and good luck balancing your grade, she takes several weeks to grade the simplest of assignments.
We only met up in class a total of 6 times throughout the whole semester. Half of them were "work" days - no lesson. And of them was to play jeopardy :/ like cmon we're in college, actually teach us. It's pretty much just you and the book she gives you. Unless you are a bookworm I would NOT recommend taking her class. My advice, SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!
I took her class for the fall. She was not reliable at all. She never responds to emails. Had an attitude if you missed her class. I emailed about two zeros I had knowing I did it and I had proof I did it she did not care (didnt email me back) she put in a zero I had A in her class and she brought it down to a C because of those assignments.
She’s hardly ever in class and gives us work and expects everyone to get it done when we don’t have class or anything
Terrible teacher. We never have class and when we do she doesn’t really teach. She isn’t clear on what she wants us to do and doesn’t explain things well. I’ve learned nothing from this class.
She doesnt give personal feedback but instead decides to send a mass announcement to the class about how we collectively did not do anything we were taught in 1301. Does not respond to emails in a timely manner. Does not give clear criteria to follow. Overall didnt enjoy her class and would not take her class ever again.
A lot of essays. One essay was due the Monday after spring break. Have to find a peer review partner during spring break to peer review. 2-3 essays and a final. NO extra credit. Easily accessible from email.
She would not show up to class and claimed she sent an announcement out meanwhile the whole class is waiting for her outside. She did not put the final grades in until the last hour they were due causing my 98 to drop to a 78, I had a 4.0. The mean grade on her two essays assigned were 44 and 70. 3 grades (including final) make 70% of final grade.
She is very passionate about her job, it is clear that she knows what she is talking about. She is very sweet and open, sometimes easy on us. She does miss class a lot but life happens so I didn't judge or question. Needs to be clear on directions and what she wants on papers.
She is the worst professor i have ever attained. She is super rude and does not answer any question if asked or has proper syllabus. i would not suggest any one to take her class. She is always absent and make excuse to be absent. Her instructions are never clear.
She is a very kind and sweet professor. There was one time she helped me out a little with a late grade but other then that I don't necessarily recommend. She never shows up to class, takes forever to get back to you, takes weeks to grade, and instructions aren't clear and if you ask for help she tells you to look at the syllabus.
Clear instruction, be prepared to read.
This is the worst class that I have ever taken!!! I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
She is very sweet but her instruction is unclear most of the time. COME TO CLASS if you have her and make sure you aren't taking a heavy load. She takes awhile to grade and doesn't show grace with assignments.
She wasn't my favorite but her class is easy IF you know what to do. She won't really tell you what to do, and that was a problem for lots of my peers. She is not clear on what she wants and her lectures feel like busy work. DO NOT USE AI. You'll get a terrible grade not because she knows it's AI but because it "writes" in a way she does not like.
Her criteria is unclear, She's lecture heavy and uses overly complicated words most of the time. Homework consisted of writing prompts, a few quizzes, and tests. Attendance is mandatory, she provides qwickly check in at the end of the class, she'll notice if you just show up to get the code.
Professor Blanco Cerda is a wonderful instructor. She's clear with her assignments, always available to help, and truly passionate about literature. I really enjoyed her class I would recommend her.
I don't know what she expects me to write.
