She's pretty nice. She gives quite a bit of homework and likes to emphasize the literature/creative part of the course.

I, personally, do not like this "creative" part she tries to focus on and could use a little more practical lecturing. Other than that, she is a good professor to have for Spanish, since she seems to be very good at it & is quite a nice lady.

You want practical teaching? take the 100-200 level courses. She really tackles issues in literature that most profs won't dare. She's a bit radical, but that can be refreshing.

A wonderful profesor to teach a language. Hard workers and makes students work hard, yet class atmosphere always relaxed. Puts students on the spot sometimes (have to speak to learn a lang.!) but very understanding/nice (unlike most other profs.!!!)

A very interesting teacher ... her reading list is awesome and she is infectiously passionate about what she teaches. BUT if you don't agree with her point of view, you will feel silenced in class.

I agree she's enthusiastic, but come on! How many times has a student corrected her grammar? Can we say every class? I dunno, it just doesn't seem right to me for her to be making so many mistakes. But she is really nice so...

Best teacher I've ever had. Clearly defines terms, then uses the texts to provide clear examples. Gave everyone time slots before each essay to discuss. Patient, kind, passionate. She brought props and food a number of times! Great texts, too!

She assigns a lot of work but it's all worth it in the end, my Spanish has improved a lot! She's very nice and extremely helpful outside of class, although she can seem intimidating in class (but don't let that put you off).

Wow, what a great professor! Wants students to participate in class and get a good grade. At first she seemed rather intimidating, but she actually respects students even if they disagree with her own interpretations. Very helpful and engaging. The course, too, was very interesting.

Don't believe the negative comments about this prof. Her texts were extremely SHORT and CAREFULLY SELECTED for the course (compared to POLI/HIST/IR readings). We got surprises no other profs would have ever cared to do. Her discussions were the most engaging in my 4 years at UBC. She's a fair marker and being opinionated is a good thing in WMST.

She is fair to all students. No Women's Studies majors were ever given special treatment in our class. We only learned about others' majors during the last class's party. It is a rare that a teacher in a large university like UBC gets to know the name of every single student within the first week of class (class of 40 or so). She GENUINELY cares about her students and reminds you all the time that you are not just a number. Her teacher style is creative and she loves pot lucks! AMAZING TEACHER!

Awesome class, hilarious prof, radical politics. If you aren't already a self-reflective feminist, she'll tear you to pieces, but if you are, she's a refreshing, engaging prof and a really nice person.

Litsa is one of the few profs at UBC who will take the time to check on and get to know her students, especially if they are struggling. She may be a little overwhelming at times, and yes she could elaborate on her opinions rather than just stating them, but this was not a hard class and it was easy to engage with. Not as closed-minded as many say.

Comes off a bit extreme at first, but she's a great prof! She really wants students to do well and will go out of her way to help you. Very engaging lectures. Definitely learned a lot.

Litsa was truly an amazing and fun professor. She is really, REALLY passionate and VERY caring towards her students. It is not true that her "favorites" do the best, I skipped lectures (which i do not recommend), never talked to her and still ended up doing well. Just remember that there are LOTS of readings... like ALOT.

Lisa was honestly the most wonderful prof I've ever come across at my time at UBC. Her lectures are unlike anything I'd ever witness in the best way possible. Get ready to learn lots and look at the world in a completely different light. I recommend this course to anyone!! Lisa is unreal 3

Litsa is the best professor I've ever had - no joke. In the two classes I've taken with her, she's made me a braver, more informed and more caring person. She's incredibly passionate and her lecture style reflects that, you wont be napping in her class. More likely, you'll need to bring tissue, the content is heavy. Go take her class! <3

She honestly is a sweetheart. I really dislike the students who disagree with her interpretation of her theoretical sociology and try to tear her down because she's good natured. She is not difficult to please, just understand what she is trying to say, you don't have to agree, just understand it, and show her that you understand her interpretation

Litsa is an amazing professor, she is the only prof I have ever had who has treated me like a person & not just a number. You'll read a lot and be pushed out of your comfort zone but its worth it. Litsa had a family emergency and tragically lost a loved one two weeks before finals, & yet still she kept up with material & was there for her students

litsa is truly one of the most caring profs i've had-- she made an effort to connect with each student on a personal level and always gave really good feedback when i asked for help on projects. definitely gonna have to do a lot of reading for this class, but i think it's ultimately worth it because it was extremely educational and enlightening!

Litsa was the most passionate prof I've encountered so far. Her lectures were engaging and interesting and she genuinely cared about her students. Would highly recommend this class if interested in social justice and are don't mind writing essays.

Litsa genuinely cares about the topics she is teaching and about her students. She is a fairly tough grader but if you pay attention to her lectures you'll be fine. This course is writing intensive and there are lots of papers including reports on films and critiques of written pieces. Each assignment varies in length from 3-7 pages.

Eye-opening class. Lecture are very unique. She swears a lot, is opinionated, and not v. professional. That aside, lectures are amazing and digs deep into topics and is not afraid to get into controversial matters. Grades reflect how much effort you put in. Readings heavy but they help a lot in class discussions and for the assignments.

Litsa is such a kind professor! She is very accommodating and willing to clarify anything. Her lectures are very clear and organized, so show her that you understand the main concepts. Be prepared to listen & reiterate the lessons being taught. If you can write and read well, you will earn a solid grade.

Lista is a fantastic professor, she cares about her students and strives actively to dismantle her student's views of the world. She exposes a lot of truths that can be hard to hear. Her lectures are powerful, causing her students to be angry, sad and inspired to make a change. The readings are easy to understand and enjoyable. take her class!

Litsa is a professor who is truly passionate about the topic she teaches and the students who are learning it. I initially found her marking extremely difficult, as she has very precise expectations for her students. However, she urges students to come to her for help and is super accessible outside of class which was the key to my improvement.

I agree that Litsa is opinionated and could be aggressive sometimes - but she was also the most caring and passionate lecturer that I have ever had (gave extensions to every assignment and will remember your name). Litsa is a wonderful, caring, passionate teacher. Her knowledge of social justice and her desire for change is inspiring. You will fail her class if you're a capitalist apologist - not because she won't listen to other opinions, but because GRSJ requires you to critique the system that creates social injustices...capitalism.

(GRSJ 302) Litsa cares about her students and I learned a ton from this class and the required readings. Although she yelled a lot when lecturing (even though it was a small class) which made me uncomfortable and hurt my understanding. She is a hard grader (class had a 68% average) with the four papers, but there was no final exam.

Litsa is a passionate and loud lecturer and her lectures are influenced by radical leftism. She does assign many readings and I found the readings to be beneficial to my understanding. I did well in her course, earning a 100% on my term paper! She is a tough grader but her criteria is quite clear. I will def take a course with Litsa in the future!

I have taken two of her classes and I can honestly say she is my favourite prof at UBC! She is extremely compassionate and always gives helpful feedback! She is clearly passionate about her job, and makes you passionate about it too! She does give some readings, but honestly I've had much worse! At most, it's an article or two a week.

I honestly don't understand the negative reviews because she is compassionate towards her students, allows you to re-take an exam if you've failed (plus gives you great feedback) and honestly does not give that much to read! Maybe 2 or three articles a week!

She is extremely passionate about GRSJ! She listens to you perspective, and makes sure you understand the material! She is very understanding - when I needed an extension on the term paper, she gave EVERYONE an extension! And helped me work on some ideas and topics for the term paper to make sure I get a good grade! She is awesome!!!!

Although the exams were heavy with content to study, I really enjoyed how passionately she taught this class, she is an excellent prof for social justice for sure

Litsa is such an amazing prof! She clearly cares about her students and the subject matter she teaches. I learned so much in this course. She's a tough grader but once you figure out what she's looking for you can do quite well if you put the work in. Also, she has potlucks and gives you treats sometimes. She really makes the class a community.

I think Litsa catches a lot of flack on this website, and while she can be polarizing, that's why I love her. I've taken 3 classes with her now, and she has shifted my perspective in the best way. She is the most caring and passionate prof you'll ever meet. She gets loud during lectures, but given the subject material it's pretty called for. 10/10!

Super kind and caring professor. She was very clear about what would be on the test and flexible for dates and deadlines. She is understanding to extraneous circumstances, and allowed an extension on the final paper. Loved her and would definitely take the class again

Super passionate and inspiring in her lectures, which are at times very heavy in terms of subject matter but she gives ample warning and really cares about the mental health of her students. If you're not used to greek women it might take a while to get used to her personality but she is such a sweetheart. Readings are interesting and engaging.

I originally intended to drop this class because I was put off by her many 1 star ratings on this site. But I'm so glad I didn't! It took me a few classes to warm up to her teaching style, but now, I look forward to class. She explains concepts clearly and assigns a variety of accessible materials like graphic novels, articles, and movies.

A very passionate teacher! Make sure you participate in her class and go the extra mile to talk with her + her TAs. The class is very reading-heavy; the midterm, essay, and final are all based on the term readings so make sure you keep up and take notes.

Very kind professor. She's not anti-Semitic like some claim. She treats and cares for all her students equally no matter their gender, race, religion. I felt that I could ask her for help on assignments, projects, etc without judgement. She does shout sometimes which can be jarring at 9 am but I think she's passionate about the matter at hand.

Maybe it's because she teaches social justice but she's the kindest instructor I've ever met, you can tell she cares. If you don't like shouting maybe sit in the back though. Ty Litsa!!

Absolutely amazing professor; Actually inspirational to me. She is so so passionate and kind hearted. She really cares about her students and our mental health. Attendance is definitely necessary to do well in class but it is never boring for those interested in social justice.

Dr. Chatzivasileiou was a very caring teacher and was easy to contact for additional help. I wouldn't say the course work was easy, however the content covered wasn't super difficult and I found the course fun and informative. She has a lot of passion and her lectures are quite intense, so if that isn't for you I would choose a different prof.

I really liked the lectures, very interesting. The prof is very knowledgeable and expects a lot from her students, if you are not ready to read about heavy topics, don't take the class. Her grading was on 1 midterm, 1 paper, and a final. I enjoyed her class BECAUSE she was very passionate and ready to talk about the things no one talks about.

Such an informative professor, she opened my eyes to issues I didnt even know were on going in the world which is exactly her goal. She is super passionate and will not sugar-coat world issues so if youre not into yelling or intense topics/lectures then I wouldn't recommend. Overall a great, kind prof.

Professor Litsa is a very passionate teacher. Yes, she yells but she does so out of urgency. I loved her lectures and they're the kind of lectures that open your eyes to show how complicit you are in this world, whether you like it or not. Though she's a slow grader, she makes very contemporary connections with her field of subject. Loved her!
