took psych stats online. the course can be time consuming but prof veselka and dr. vernon make it easier. gives very thorough explanations, you can tell she really wants you to succeed.
Took PsychStats online to avoid BioStats (best decision ever!) and Livia (the assistant professor?) was immensely helpful. She basically posted the full solutions to all our assignment questions and was always there when we needed help. The course itself was not too stressful either.
Very reasonable in her marking for the online discussions. She is very sweet, and is more than willing to help if you have a question for her. Her exams are fair, have several multiple multiples on them though which can be tricky.
Amazing prof! Friendly and easy to talk to. Very helpful. Her slides are perfect and are much better than the textbook. Need to go to class for filler info for the slides, and for formula sheets for the exam. Lectures are posted online sometimes and are boring, but in-class lectures are short and go by fast. Fair prof 10/10 would recommend
Great prof, always there for students if you go talk to her. Textbook not mandatory but helps, her lectures slides are really easy to follow and she always gives practice exams questions before the midterm. If you have to take MOS 2242, highly recommend you take it with her.
Had 2242 with her and it was great. She was very kind, and her slides were thorough and helpful.
Really nice and kinda cute. Makes stats so easy
excellent professor she is unique and available outside of cass
Just finished a summer course with her. She was extremely patient and approachable. She would ask students if they want to switch the course into online form and she would post video lectures online with very organized contents and explanation. A great professor for a difficult course. Recommend psych2820E during summer with her if you have chance
Dr. Veselka is the sweetest prof I have taken at Western. Her lectures are amazing and very thorough. The course itself is challenging if you're not into stats but she makes it a lot easier. Definitely recommend.
Dr. Veselka is a very sweet prof with very clear lectures. The only thing is, her quizzes and exams are significantly harder than the practice work that she provides. That being said, she tries to make herself as accessible as possible to in case you need the extra help. Definitely requires the extra effort + work if math does not come intuitively.
Honestly the nicest prof I've ever had. She gives you so many resources to be able to do well in the course, and if you use them and listen to her lectures an A is definitely attainable! Makes you feel like she genuinely cares about you and will respond to any questions and really help in office hours.
Amazinggg prof that made mos1021 bearable. You can tell that she cares about her students and wants them to do well. Make sure you know the content in her lecture slides as well as the textbook material because both will be covered on the exams
Dr Veselka is extremely kind and helpful. Her lecture slides are clear and easy to follow. She responds to emails quickly. Lookout for her exams though. You must know and understand every term, and slide to do well on these exams; do not underestimate their difficulty. That being said, if you read and prepare well in advance you should be fine.
Sitting through a 3-hour lecture is never easy but she made it as interesting as possible. Would throw in a couple questions in the exams that if you skipped the lectures you wouldn't get right. Textbook had no use really and she made most of the exams through the lecture so if you read that you will pass the course perfectly fine
Her exams are super hard and I dont see a point of attending this class
Personally I was not interested in stats because I found it difficult to understand in first year course but her lectures make you find stats much easier. Clear lecture and cute animal memes in the slides so I encourage you to go to lecture!
Good prof teaching a very fast-paced difficult course. She gives lots of example questions that are a lifesaver for the exam, and the slides are very clear. I wouldn't bother with the practice questions in the textbook they are barely relevant.
This was my FAVOURITE class during first year. Amazing lecturer and knowledgeable about the subject (doesn't just read off the slides). Lecture and textbook content are different, so you NEED to study BOTH. Fair exams and sends students personal emails of congratulations if you place within top of class. She makes long lectures feel short! 10/10
Livia is super nice and really approachable if you need help. She tries to make the lectures short cause she understands the material is pretty dry. Her exams are definitely fair, just pay attention to specific examples in lecture and do a good read of the textbook chapters.
Prof Veselka is the best prof ever! You can tell she really cares about her students and she always tries her best to keep lectures engaging. The only thing is that her exams were a little harder than I thought they would be, but that's typical for mos classes in general. Highly recommend taking a class with her!
She's extremely nice and positive, a very refreshing change of pace. Her lectures are straightforward and she is very fair and reasonable with assigning readings. The tests are full of trick questions, so be wary. They definitely require thorough studying and understanding of the content. Clearly just a lovely person overall. I loved her as a prof.
Dr. Livia's lectures are very thorough and engaging. She explains concepts and terms well. If you read the textbook and watch her lecture videos, her exams are not too tough. Would definitely take another course with her again.
Very caring, organized and helpful professor that makes a fast paced and difficult course a bit easier. Exams are challenging but fair and she provides lots of examples in the lectures to prepare. Course was asynchronous but she made herself available to help one-on-one over zoom and responded to questions over email very quickly.
Fantastic professor, even gave me a personal email after I scored perfect on one of her exams. Her exams and quizzes don't have many tricks, just know the content from her lectures and the textbook as well (and remember the examples). MOS1021 can be an easy 90+, even though the class average was 67%. Don't treat it lightly like everyone else does
This professor talks way too much during lectures that it becomes extremely difficult to follow along. Her tests are also very difficult.
Terrible professor. Her tests are extremely difficult. Don't know why she has to make it so hard. Tests are nothing like her practice tests. Literally had a headache after writing her tests.
Veselka has great lectures with detailed explanations, easy to understand. Her video lectures are also done with this voice that is very uplifting and energetic so I find they do not make me want to fall asleep lol! The downside to her or maybe it's the course but the exams are unnecessarily hard, even if you study A LOT.
This has to be one of the worst professors I have had. She is not clear about her expectations for the course. She makes the exams insanely hard so even if you study you will still struggle. She also does not allow you to review your exams so you won't even know how to improve. If you have her, run.
One of the nicest professors ever! Extremely caring and very clear in explaining concepts. Beware that every single word she says in lectures and every single word in the textbook is testable. Will not allow test reviews (tests are her IP), but will give individualized feedback. Choose professor Veselka if you can!
Terrible professor. Makes exams insanely hard and does not even let you review them afterward.
Well-spoken, kind, enthusiastic, and concise. One of the best professors I've had while at Western!
Seems like a nice gal but the tests were veryyy hard for some reason. I did better in accounting and finance with Pilling which I would have never expected. All are application questions and each question you have to pick between two because they both seem correct. It was difficult but manageable
Great prof, exams were fair although a bit vague at times. Sent me a personal email congratulating me when I did well on an exam. Definitely recommend.
This prof is the only good prof I have had this semester. her lectures are long and at night but she speaks in a good tone and her class is interesting. You will need to do the textbook reading and take alot of notes in lecture because her exams are tricky and hard. I will be taking other courses with this prof down the road for sure!
Veselka is one of the nicest and most understand profs I had at western. She keeps her lectures concise and manageable. The exams can have a few tricky questions but overall, if you study the material it is possible to do well in her class. Truly a top tier prof!
One of the best professors I have had at Western. Her lectures were not a drag and she is very understanding of students. If you pay attention and put in the work, it is very possible to do very well on her exams. She does not surprise you with difficult changes if exam situations change. Would absolutely take her classes again in the future.
The best prof I have had at Western. Had her for first year MOS1021 last year and she was great. Talks fast in online lectures but her course is amazing. This year I took her Stats class and it was awesome. Most understanding prof I know.
Lectures are short but extremely stuffed with content that you're basically taking over double the time to finish the lectures out of note taking alone. With so many formulas and different types of examples, this isn't a course where you can just watch a lecture. I've always gotten 90s with this prof and shes great but 2242 wasn't it
Livia is an amazing professor without a doubt. She tries to make lectures fun considering the material is a bit dry. She really cares about our grades and responds to emails quickly. However, her tests are not hard: it is just that the options she gives us all seem like the right answers. Thus, you need to understand the material inside out.
Great Professor. Out of all of the professors I've had this semester Dr. Veselka was an absolute angel. Her lectures are by far the easiest to understand and engaging. While dealing with a massive lecture hall she keeps the class engaged. I was dealing with a medical issue and she was so understanding and considerate.
Dr. Liv is an excellent professor. Her class was quite difficult, and you really do need to study HARD in order to achieve a high mark in her class, but she does everything in her power to help you achieve that goal. She's probably the best lecturer I've ever had; her lectures are enjoyable and very very useful. Would recommend this prof.
She's a great lecturer and prof. Def one of my favourites from first year. Quite a bit of the exams is lecture only, so attendance is necessary in order to do well. A decent portion is also textbook only, so reading the book at least once is also a must. If you put the time in you will do well. It is possibly to go from a 60 to a 90 if you study.
Prof is super nice and only gives you three exams with no quizzes or extra work so do well in each. Lectures can be a bit dragged but exams are based on textbook material and lectures too so don't skip them. Exams are easy if you do the work and you can get an 80 easily
Amazing prof but the lectures can be long despite a break in the middle. Theres only three exams so do well but they are easy if you go to lectures and read the book. An 80 is achievable if you do the work
Had Veselka this past semester in person and I absolutely loved her class! She always made her lectures, clear and concise, which I really appreciated for a long class. Make sure you pay attention and take good lecture notes, as well as good textbook notes. Leave some time to review the content before the exams. Her practice questions are great!
Veselka is a great lecturer and makes even the more boring concepts engaging. Important to take good notes on the weekly textbook reading (which can be long) and on the lectures. Practice questions are useful to assess where you are before the exam. If you work hard and pay attention a high grade is very possible.
Professor Veselka is a great professor (super accommodating and caring). To do well in MOS1021 you really should attend lectures but that's not an issue because they are really engaging and not tough to sit through. Go to lecture, read the textbook, do a practice test before your exam and you should be good.
Super good prof. Helpful when needed, and her lectures were clear
READ THE TEXTBOOK! Literally, the whole exam is textbook-based. Read it, buy it, re-read it, you really need it. Also, prepare yourself for the most random questions on the exam. This was probably my most hardest course. Goodluck.
Go to lectures, read the textbook, be ready for some trick questions and you'll be just fine.
One of the best profs I've had so far, you can attend lectures and understand what the chapter is about without doing the reading beforehand. Midterms and exams are fair, your grade will reflect how much studying you put into it
I had Livia for 2242 last semester. She is incredibly kind, supportive and reachable if you ever have questions about course content, even if its the day of or before the exam. She is very fair in her grading, and her lectures are very very detailed and a lifesaver for exams! She congratulated me when I did well on one of my exams as well!
Great Lectures
Livia's lectures are well-prepared, very clear and organized. She includes many memes too. She sends personalized emails if you perform well on exams. You must attend lectures and read the textbook (some content do not overlap and she tests everything) Be prepared to read every page of the textbook and you can easily score full marks.
Professor Veselka was an amazing lecturer for MOS 1021. Her expectations were very clear at the start of the semester and followed through with those expectations. The course was reliant on the textbook AND lecture material, so make sure to do both. Livia was passionate about what she was teaching and made lectures enjoyable to sit through.
Professor Livia gives amazing lectures and makes your 3-hour lectures go by very fast. She is super nice and will answer any questions you may have if you come up to her during the break or after class. Her tests are tricky and require you to know materials from both her lectures and the textbook. Textbook readings from each lectures are heavy.
Great proffesor that keeps the class engaged even if the topics aren't as interesting. She is caring and thoughtful, exams are more tricky but if understand the concepts and do the readings they are bareable.
Cares about her students and her lectures are very engaging.
So much respect for her. She prepares excellent, clear, engaging lectures. She also is incredibly understanding. I can't thank her enough for her for being so active and caring for her students.
She was a really helpful professor when needed, always responded to emails in and always wanted to help, her lecture were very engaging as well.
So nice and understanding. Exams were tricky but if you study you will do very well.
One of my favorite professors, inspires me to learn, doesn't make things difficult for students, and is relatively quick to teach. Very, very patient and very gorgeous.
If you get her take her! Exam was a bit tough but manageable.
She is so caring of her students and makes lectures fun and engaging. She cuts down the lectures to two hours instead of three which is so nice. Her slides often include memes too. Great prof, take her class!!
The exam is like 60% txtbook and 40% lecture. But you must attend lectures bc her slides always have empty sections so if you don't attend you don't know the content that needs to be filled. Tbh I wasn't her biggest fan. She never did anything wrong but the lectures weren't great. The only good part was that she kept them short 2 hrs instead of 3
Professor Veselka is super nice but her tests were just so hard for no reason. Her lectures are boring and you'll see someone sleeping all the time. The course was just super boring and there were no assignments and it's literally all tests.
best prof ever
Amazong prof! She is super clear in terms of what will be on the exam and tends to remove questions if many students get them wrong. Would definitely recommenced taking her class.
3 hour lectures and lots of content, but is energetic and has very up to date memes to keep entertained. You will have to do readings and there is lecture exclusive content.
goated
have never left a review for any prof but veselka is amazing. turns a 3 hour lecture into an hour and a half at most, while still covering all the content and making it easy for students to understand. exams do have textbook material, but it's like 2 questions out of 40. curves the exams, no trick questions whatsoever.
She is literally one of the best profs at Western. So easy to talk to, and makes exams easy to study for. Take this class with this prof, and if you study, not hard to get a good mark.
If you attend the lectures and spend the time to memorize them as well as the textbooks, you can easily get a 90+ in the class.
Amazing professor and lecturer. Communicates all course material clearly and in an engaging manner.
So I saw someone say that it's "easy" to get a 90+. It's not. Livia is great but the course itself is the most mind numbing useless content taught ever. Make sure you truly understand every concept - memorizing is not enough.
My favourite professor. 3 hour lectures condensed into 2, great speaker who elaborates on every subject - GO TO LECTURES, take extra notes. Exams are pretty tough; study hard. Attend every lecture, take extra notes, read textbook, ask questions, STUDY LOTS and you can do very well in her course.
Super great prof. Her exams are around 85% lecture and 15% textbook, so make sure to attend every lecture and take notes. She's amazing; replies to emails quickly (around 1-2 hrs every time I've reached out) and always finishes the lectures in 1.5-2 hrs instead of 3. Love her, taking stats2242 with her this year.
Best first year prof. She cared about getting to know her students and made lectures so fun and interesting with real world examples which helped to retain information. She was also very good at responding to questions and clarified everything very well. The exams were fair and easy to do well on if you study.
Such an amazing teacher, her examples she uses in class make even the hardest to grasp concepts digestible, you can tell she genuinely loves teaching and brings a positivity that almost no professor can match. If you have any opportunity to take her classes, take them.
Livia is by far the best prof I've had so far, her lectures are super clear and captivating and she is a very nice and understanding person. If you go to all the lectures and read the textbook pages she assigns to the lectures you're able to do very well in the course. If Livia is ever an option as a teacher, would highly highly recommend!!
Really kind professor who genuinely cares about her students and wants them to do well. Final grade is determined on three 70 mark exams, covering both content and textbook. If you go to class to take notes and read the textbook, a 90%+ is definitely achievable if you are good at memorization.
Make sure to read textbook, and refer to lecture notes, understand each small detail, course can be subjective, but Veselka is the best.
Livia Veselka made MOS 1021 super enjoyable and I love the energy she brought to each lecture she taught. You'll need to keep up with the textbook readings and the lectures as the slide decks provided are incomplete. The research participation was slightly annoying as you lose 2% for each of 3 credits you don't do for a total of 6%.
Livia is a kind, engaging professor, and it is evident that she actually cares about her students. Attendance is a must as she has lecture-exclusive content plus mandatory weekly readings. If you do this and ask questions, getting a 90+ grade is very achievable. Make sure you understand all the terms and concepts, the differences between them.
She was a fantastic professor. She always did her best to make relatively lengthy (and kind of boring) information more interesting. You could tell that she genuinely cared about her students, and she brought so much energy to each lecture.
Make sure to make notes on both textbook and lecture, exams are straight forward if you study
Great Prof! Very lecture heavy but make sure to do the readings, as they come back onto the tests. As well, some of the questions are a bit tricky so make sure to understand the content fully.
Great lecturer that you can tell is passionate about what they're teaching. Incomplete slide decks means you have to go to class, but makes it easy to take notes. Class is very organized and she makes it easy to succeed. Exams are a little difficult, but she curves them pretty well. If you go to class and do the readings, you should do pretty well.
Best prof first-year by far. Would strongly recommend; omits 50%+ of most readings and offers bonus marks (indirectly) in exams. Would give anything to take another course with her!
Livia was amazing, she was awesome and wanted her students to succeed!
She is so sweet, kind, and understanding. She clearly tells you what will be on the exam by telling you exactly which parts of the textbook to read and which ones you can skip. She is so accommodating as well. When I fractured my leg, she was one of the only professors who allowed me to defer the exam and makeup until I was feeling better.
uses unnecessarily challenging words to understand
She was clearly interested in what she was teaching and made the content digestible. The readings were not too bad, as a lot of it was cut out, which was appreciated. However, the exams are designed with tricky choices that make you question your life choices. I felt I understood this course better than 1023 but only got one percent better?
Prof. Livia was an amazing professor. She was always enthusiastic in lectures, making them very enjoyable to go to, and made course content very enjoyable. She is always very kind when you go up to her during breaks. Her exams are hard - she tests you to see if you really understand the material - but nonetheless I enjoyed her course.
Veselka gives really great lectures. Her exams are hard but if you genuinely put in the effort to study and put in the effort to analyze the questions on the exams, you will get a decent grade.
She's such an interesting and sweet professor. Just read the textbook and learn the info and you'll do just fine
Veselka keeps lectures as engaging as they can be for such a content heavy course, she speaks at the perfect pace so you can type out all your notes but aren't getting bored, and you can tell she wants her students to do well. The content isn't too difficult, just attend all lectures and make lots of textbook notes and you should be fine.
Love her! She's so nice
Great lectures, she tries to make lectures engaging and shows genuine care for students. The heavy txbk reading and attending lectures is mandatory if u want to do well. The overall content is super easy to understand, BUT her exams are 60% mind games- even when u memorised and understand everything, you'll still get lower than you thought you did.
one of my fav profs this year for sure
Livia is one of the best profs! She's so sweet and genuinely cares about her students!
Very easy class, just study what she tells you to study. Make sure you don't miss lectures since the exams are based on some lecture exclusive material as well as the stuff from the text book. Also for the research credits in the final research period try to book them as soon as you can since during that time they book up very fast.
My favourite class and prof so far! The content isn't easy but she tells you what to omit from the textbook. You need to come to every class because she posts the slideshows half-empty, but she tries to make the content engaging. Another pro is that she ends class really early, she makes a 3 hour class max 2 hours and its really great!
She is so amazing. She makes the content fun and understandable. You just have to lock in and read the textbook.
This course is challenging, but you can do well with consistent effort. I studied about 8 hours per unit, attended every lecture, and read the textbook. I got 97% on Exam 1 (with curve) and 94% on Exam 2. My tip: stay consistent and remember as much as you can — almost everything in the textbook and slides is testable. The professor is fantastic!
Liv is an overall great prof and makes the course very interesting! I enjoyed going to her lectures for sure, although I will admit I found her class pretty difficult and you do have to memorize a lot of content! Study hard and attend the lectures!
She makes the lectures pretty fun and interesting, and always manages to let us out relatively early without making the lecture feel rushed through. Overall great professor and really fair exams.
She's really nice and pretty accommodating as well; however, the tests don't mess around bro. So many terms that all sound the same, and every question tries to trick you.
This course average has to be 65-70%, so the tests are hard by design. Livia herself was super super nice and the best prof ive had so far by a mile, and its clear she wants all her students to do well. go to her office hours, she gives great insight on how to actually go about answering the questions, as imo this class isnt just memorization.
The class might seem a bit overwhelming at first, but I assure you she makes it very enjoyable and easy to comprehend. As long as you attend class and read the textbook you should have no problem. The midterms are pretty long but you will get used to them. The questions can be tricky just take your time reading them. Overall best Professor so far!
Midterms are definitely trickier than what you would expect. READ THE TEXTBOOK, go to lectures, pay attention to what she's saying in lectures, and actually study really hard. If you bomb a midterm send her an email or go to office hours and she will actually give you solid advice. Overall, a pretty good prof. The grade was my fault.
Liv is the best. Tells you exactly what you're gonna be tested on. Does it mean the class is easy? No, the average for this class has to be like 65-70 per uni standard, so the midterms are hard. Try to know as much as you can, and DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS + READ THE TEXTBOOK.
