Professor Augilar is very kind/understanding and open to helping all of her students. She opens the floor for discussions and encourages participation. The material that is covered is well selected and applicable. She supplies much reading material and study guides. It is hard not to recieve an A.
Very wonderful Prof. Vey helpful and understanding
half the time she sounds like she's crying or is it just me who finds her voice very annoying. i only signed up for her class because the class catalog said ms matthews would be teaching it.
Ms. Aguilar is very helpful and always makes you feel that she is there to help you.
Ms. Aguilar is very understanding , helpful and sweet. I was glad I took this class. I would recommend her to anyone
She rocks the english socks man!!!!
Her course is not blow-off course but if you attend class and do your papers you will do fine. She is very good about letting you have your own opinion and lets you have open viewpoints in your papers as long as you back them up.
Ms. Aguilar is a very sweet lady. Her class is very easy, I would recommend her class to anyone. Do all your papers and you should do fine. She grades fairly easy.
I do not recommend Ms. Aguilar at SAC. She is disorganized, unfocused and gossipy. Also, she seems more interested in telling long-winded stories than teaching.
She was pretty nice. Really helpful. She can get a little scattery, but overall it was survive-able(??) She's a real nice lady. An easy A.
I did not enjoy this class. She seems to talk to herself a lot. Class discussions were nonexistant. There was a dead energy to the class. She's easy if you just do the work but I wanted more than that. When she is telling you about stories you're going to read, she gives the endings away, before you read them!
i agree, not a good teacher...doesn't really teach good, and makes things confusing esp. with when papers and homework are due and trying to make out the story line clearer...confusing!!! aside from that, she was nice and all, but not worth being in class with.
She is a very nice and sweet teacher. She gives packets that are very helpful for tests and finals. When she says to read some pages, do it, because you very well might have a quiz over it the next day. She is helpful with papers, too, so overall, she's a good teacher, and if you do your work, you should be fine.
Ms. Aguilar is a great teacher. She is very helpful and understanding. I am looking forward to having her for my 1301 and 1302 English class next semester.
This teacher rocks is very clear when she is talking and willing to help. Recommended A+++
reading some of the earlier ratings about class discussion being non-existant, that really depends on your class, not so much the teacher, my class had a lot of talkative people and we discussed a lot in there. she genuinly cares about her students and you can really tell. id take her in a heartbeat if i had to do another english class.
She is a good teacher. Vey helpful but her essays are quite hard and there is a period of time crunch when u feel like the class is horrible. This class is not an esay A, if u a ready to work hard, then u must take her.
Ms. Aguilar is unfocused and seems to want to do as little work as possible. She barely provides any feedback on essays. Also, she's rarely in her office during office hours. During class she just talks about herself, on and on. She seems to forget about the teaching - so scattered and airheaded.
Prof. Aguilar is a great professor and I do recommend taking her class. She does give 7 essays, one of those being a literary research paper. She gives relatively good feedback on essays. There is a midterm exam and four quizes which are somewhat difficult. She is willing to help anyone who needs help. Her office is right next to her classroom.
she is the best enlgish teacher i have ever had. She is clear about everything and make learning fun.
Is very hard but, will make you a better writer. If majoring in english or journalism I would take him.
I liked Miss Aguilar she is a great teacher, she did her best to help people understand the topic at hand. She didn't grade the papers to harshly, there was A LOT of writing in the class but it was easy...just read the stories she gives you show up and participate she was pretty cool...Easy Class just do your work...Takes late work usually
she never used the book, and also needs a serious make over because her ratsnest is a distraction during class. Gave me a D eventhough all assignments were completed for her Fff Class. Just over all not a good teacher, wouldnt take her class again, she strays from the point, talks about herself too much, and seems to be a rascist of some sort.
Ms. Aguilar is incomprehensible! She talks on and on and on! She needs a filter! And, she gossips constantly. Grow up!
I found out that I did not need this course so I dropped it.
too much..too little time especially for people who work and go to school FT.
she honestly should not be teaching at a jr college, the sheer volume of her syllabus was overwelming. She really should by teaching at Harvard, but it wasn't just the homework, she was not too helpful & was not clear on what she wanted done. 1/2 her class dropped out and the other 1/2 wish we had
Ms. Aguilar was a confusing professor because she was super nice in the classroom and in the beginning, but her grading style was VERY HARD and her directions werent very clear at all forcing many if not all of her students to email her about what the effff to do. NOTE: all of the "optional" assignments are required, confusing everyone thus failing
ughhh..... just trust me dont take her.
Her grading system is very hard. It is very difficult to get a high grade on her course.
Professor Aguilar is an amazing professor she does have you do a lot of writing in her class but its an easy A if you turn in your rough drafts and make corrections she will help you with any thing you need
This teacher is not easy, alot of writing. Impossiable if you work and going to school with other classes. I worked my butt of and I am barely passing. Her work was very confusing, people had to ask her and email her because the assignments were confusing. HALF of the class dropped. If you take her try and get out of her class asap!
If you are looking for an easy A this is not the class for you, Be prepared to work, and commit some time to studying. Alot of writing, you will learn alot!!
This is a diffcult class, tons of writing, and most of the students were confused about the assignments. So we had to email her and ask her again what excatly she wants. She answers her own questions when asking students. I would not recommend her. Everyone thought she should be teaching at Harvard.
this professor has to be the worst teacher i have ever run across. she is not wiling to help without attitude, with any questions she simply responds with "refer to your syllabus" [even though she and her syllabus a very contradicting]she answers her own questions and honestly isn't suited for a community college. WORST TEACHER EVER
shes very nice. i thought English was hard and she took baby steps and made it easy
Do not recommend taking, unless you dont have to worry about your GPA!
Tons of work, wierd grading system which makes getting an A difficult even for excellent students. Do not recommend her!!!!
She's a good teacher. She wants to see her students succeed and is willing to help. She's great with communication if you need it and pretty much spoon feeds you the test if you just listen to her lectures and come. She is also willing to help you with your writing assignments if you just ask her. I would take her again.
She is hard! I wish I would have checked this site before taking her. Her lectures are a bit boring and she gives an extreme amount of writing assignments. I am straight A student, well was until I took her class. I still managed a B. She is willing to help and is usually available and willing to work with you. That was her only plus.
Aguilar is bad, she lost one of my quizzes that caused me to fail. she didn't believe me that i took it, even though i was present that day, she said i took it home, gives one day for late papers. At the end of the semester she bought the class pizza so you think your doing good and in return you can give her a good evaluation. dont fall for it.
Honestly, idk what everyone is complaining about. Ms. Aguilar's class is VERY easy to recieve an A. EXTREMELY HELPFUL. Just do the work and you will be fine. Its your responsibility to read the syllabus and study guides in order to pass. The essays are easy, I'd recommend her to anyone. VERY EASY A.
Prof Aguilar is an excellent teacher! You can tell she loves English and that energy feeds off to the student. She is helpful and lets student sit in to other class times if you missed your class. Pay attention, go to class and do the work and you will have no problem! The only weird thing about her is she often refers to herself in third person.
Nice lady but very unclear about what she wants in her assignments. Alot of readings and essays ,test are short and over the readings usually, grading is done by points, gives your the next class day to turn in assignment with 10 points taken off other then that no late work accepted, sweet lady but would not take her again
Nice lady, but the tests for the maymester took too long to complete. Some students took 2 hours and 45 minutes to complete the supposedly one hour exam. SAC is undergraduate work and needs to be treated as such. Trying to compete with universities is ridiculous. The university courses are easier than what is to be expected at SAC.
She is a great teacher. Very interesting and insightful. If you do all your work following the requirements she gives, you will do great!! Very helpful and available if needed. Got an A and it did not kill me!! But you do need to have paid attention in class.
Very much a writing intensive class. Ms. Aguilar is a very sweet lady, but her lectures are a bit on the dull side. She asks the class a question and immediately answers it herself. Just pay attention in class and if you need help she is willing to help you. But don't expect an easy A or even an easy B for that matter.
very helpful, appreciates for your work, nice teaching method, very dedicated for teaching
Dr. Aguilar is awesome! she is a very dedicated teacher. If you follow her instructions you will do well. I got an A, even though English is my second language.
she is very nice lady and helpful lady. quizzes are very easy. you will love it. i will highly recommend this professor.
She is awesome lady and very helpful. her lectures are very knowledgeable and you gonna learn a lot. test are easy and straight forward from the lecture so far if you go to class you gonna pass the semester in easy way...
Horrible professor. 1302 is not a doctoral program class. She is disorganized, loses grades, and only allows a day or two for assignments to be completed. Her reading assignments are the most boring I've ever read! Steer clear.
Excellent professor, very helpful. Easy class as long as you do the readings. The class is writing intensive, but Dr. Aguilar makes her students aware of this the first day of class. Quizzes/tests are straightforward. Appreciates students hard work & dedication. Dr. Aguilar is very compassionate about her profession and her students. Learned a lot!
Easy Class
this class is an writing and reading intensive class make sure to plan and map out all assessments or you will have to drop. does not go over reading that well. i would not recommend for full time student and just part-time students.
Great class, very straight forward. She provides all the essay questions and test reviews for the whole semester, on the first day of class. Very easy and VERY useful class.
I took American Literature class as a Maymester. It moved fast, but overall was easy as long as your read the assigned pages, she is still working out the questions on tests.e Overall her grading is simple, and doesn't take too many points off. I really liked how clear she was. She made the class very interesting, easy and fun. (2books A&B)
Such a wonderful and nice teacher! The work is very easy and there should be no excuse not to do it. She is very understanding of late work, and her class is pretty laid back. I learned a lot. I definately recommend this class for 1301 or 1302!!
you do need to work in this class but there shouldnt be a reason you wont pass. she grades very leniently, but you must do the work and turn it in on time. she will accept it a class later but nothing after that. i do like her though, i am taking her again for 1302 she is super sweet and extremely helpful!
Letting us discuss and listening to our conclusions. Guiding us in good clear explanations of subjects. Contacting her for clarification is awesome. She contacts you back quickly.
Very sweet professor she lets you know far ahead of the due date what she wants in and assignment and when it is due. She is a great professor I highly recommend.
While she seems to be a very fair professor as far as expectations and workload, DO NOT take her class if you have any type of learning disability. She has no grasp of how to explain assignments or to lecture in a way that a, say, aspergers student would even begin to comprehend. She is also very easily distracted in class and during lectures.
SHE IS GREAT PROFESSOR AND HER QUIZZES AND exams are easy as long as you read what you have to read. however, the bad thing that she required five journals and research paper and oral presentation to done even in maymester class which is just three weeks but she is easy in the grading
I wish i had known her when i took my 1301 comp. She is Amazing! She does expect a lot but she is only getting you ready in you transfer to another college! LOVED HER so much!
This professor is absolutely great!!!! At times it was hard to understand what exactly she wanted on a paper. But if you ask she explains until you get it. There were a lot of writing assignments, so you will have to work for your grade. If you want an easy A this class is not for you.
Professor Aguilar was very helpful when it came to guiding me in the right direction. She clarified so much for me pertaining to my college experience.
she is not organized at all very skattered bounces all over the place, say BUT alot, she has a doctorite and talks to student like they do to not as freshmans. Does not work well with students with disabilities. OMG there is soooo much writing that you have to do in this class. If you have been out of school for a long time do not take her. B @mid
Has a big heart and will take the time to explain to what is need on any assignment assigned. Straight to the point and has complete fairness and will take her class next semester.
Professor Aguilar is a good professor but you have to work for your grade here. Several papers are due but plenty of time is given. Study the test reviews and you will get a good grade. There is a LOT of reading though, you NEED the textbook or look up all stories online!
This class was frustrating. She needs to explain her assignments better and not lecture about things we either already read or things that aren't relevant to the exam during the whole class. She will help if asked. When she doesn't come in she has another professor show up and give us busy work that she doesn't even take for a grade.
I took her for my first english class and it was so easy. I would start and finish my papers the day before they were due and I received an A in all of them. Her final and mid term are pretty easy. She will give you specific pages to study for the final and mid term. SUPER easy class.
She does not allow any papers or test to be turned in late, even if all you have to do is print them, and she does require every single one to be printed. I think she has been out of school too long and can no longer relate to the students in the sense that we have other things going on in our lives such as work, children, other classes etc.
Professor Aguilar was fantastic, she was caring and very respectable. 4 essays, 4 quizzes, 2 letters, and she let us pick our own topics for these essays basically. Will definitely take her again.
I took this class and absolutely loved it. You'll need your text book. She's so nice, doesn't accept late work but she gives you plenty of time to get it done. Definitely taking her class for 1302.
Easy class, just write the papers and turn them in on time and you'll get an A. Caring teacher and will work with students, lectures are long winded and pointless.
Professor Aguilar is extremely caring, there is lots of homework but if you have any questions she will answer anything. 4 essays, 4 quizzes, midterm and final. Will definitely take her again.
I took her for English 1301 and now I'm about done with 1302 she is great she assigns somewhat the same papers from English 1 to English 2. Her quizzes are no more than 10 questions. She's helpful, responds to emails, and she sends you study guides on what to study for before quizzes.
A very nice professor, It really is an easy class, just do your work and do it on time.
She is a good teacher, and well organized. She grades relatively fast, but at the end it was a little slow. You know about all the assignments before school start, because she emails you. She is kind, but does not take late assignments so please do your work. She give ample time to do them for the most part.
great teacher
Ms. Aguilar is more of a lecturer so be prepared to listen as soon as you sit down till you leave. She grades pretty difficult in English 1302. Always be there and never skip unless it is an emergency.
Took her Maymester class. I truly enjoyed her class. Very engaging. Will take for my other Comp class.
She does lecture, however, she makes the class go by fast! I loved her and everyone in class enjoyed having her as a professor!! She knows the material and teaches well! She is respectful and professional. This gives students the confidence and the motivation to work hard and achieve their goals! TAKE HER!!!
Very nice professor! I was kind of hesitant about taking her for ENGL 1301 but so happy I did. Before school even started, she sent us the course syllabus and a list of all the assignments and when they were due. She does lecture a lot but it's mainly out of the book. Please buy the book for this class. You will need it! Also, study for the quiz!
She is a nice professor that will provide help if requested. The whole class she will lecture but she will like to discuss a topic as long as you bring it up. The assignments are not hard as long as you show you participate. There are two essays in which are research papers but she will provide help and exams are the midterm and final.
1/3 Lecturing, 1/3 Class Group-work, 1/3 Actually Writing. Dr. Aguilar knows what she is teaching and has a special way of making students better as long as they keep up. I took her Maymester course, which was fast, but ultimately finished seeing improvements in my writing.
Dr. Aguilar is a great professor, even though i took her class in maymester she which was great overall. If i have to take another english class it would be her. Do not take maymester if your not going to read, arrive to class, or do work, you will fail!. She is not lenient at all when it comes to grading.
so many tests and quizzes some are hard but it even out because you have many changes to bring grade up as long as you show up and pay attention. She helps you if you have questions. shes so nice in our last day of class she gave us fruit and food to eat shes a nice lady very nice.
She is definitely a great teacher, everyone has their own negatives and the only bad thing I could really say is that she doesn't accept late work. The plus side about that is she gives plenty of time to complete the assignments. She is picky in her grading but to give her credit, she does state her instructions for the assignments pretty clear.
Dr. Aguilar is great would definitely take her again, i did a maymester and almost die. Papers are very overwhelming because there is one due every day or so it feels like it. But she is very helpful and was you to succeed.
I took professor Aguilar my spring semester for 1302 and I would not reccomend to take her. She gets distracted very easily and gives assignments that are six pages long, sometimes more. She does set the boundaries straight from the beggining of the course and she will not take late work.
I would not take Professor Aguilar again only because her lectures are not really lectures she speaks about the reading but she tends to go off topic a lot. If youre not much for writing papers do not take her, she only has about 4 assignments and theyre all heavy graded and really long and does not take late work. A lot of research is involved
Professor Aguilar is terrible. She gives so much homework, her lectures are ramblings, she does not ever speak about the assignments. She is a rough grader but if you feel you deserve a higher grade she does listen and if you make a good argument she will bump it up. Be ready to read and to do A LOT of writing. She does not make directions clear.
She was the most horrible teacher she doesn't allow you to make up work and also doesn't allow you to turn online she also do petty stuff.
She is nice, she wants to help you. She does ramble but she does talk about the quizzes and papers. The course has 5-6 quizzes and 3 papers which were easy topics but lots of writing. The quizzes are textbook based but because she talks about them during class
A very difficult class to do. I took her online so I didn't get to meet her in person. She was a very difficult grader and had very unclear instructions on her assignments. She has a lot of work for you to do, and I honestly would not recommend her unless you like difficult classes. A lot of the highest scores for assignments weren't even 100%.
You'll have to write a lot but she is willing to help, you just have to communicate.
She is a very nice lady. If you put in the time & work you will get the grade you worked for. Attendance is a must, so as long as you are in class & take notes, you will be fine. She has many zoom office hours, so if you ever have questions or need help is always available ^ reachable.
Is a writing intensive course so be ready to write some lengthy papers. Her lectures in my opinion weren't clear to me so my advice, read ahead of time and before class. Her grading felt inconsistent at times too some papers I turned in crushed it receiving an A while others granted me a C. Overall she is more of a researcher than an educator.
Worst professor Ive had. Extremely unclear grading system for essays. No rubric provided. Her expectations are ambiguous Her study guide is irrelevant to the final exam. If you have a high A throughout the semester good luck getting anything above a 75 on the final exam. No matter how much you study the "study guide" its utterly useless.
She seemed so nice at first and like a sweet lady, but she is not understanding at all, She takes forever to grade assignments and upload the grades. It is currently the end of the semester for Christmas break and she has still yet to upload a substitute essay assignment and the final, I had a 66 and was hoping this would bump my grade up.
This is the worst professor I've had so far, she never provides a full rubric for essays, grades harshly, takes a while to update grades, as well as not responding to emails when I've asked for better understanding on assignments, lastly she is not understanding at all. I would not recommend you take this course through her for various of reasons.
Wouldn't recommend taking any English course through this professor, her grading isn't fair and very harsh also, she is not specific with directions on assignments or essays.
She's a very nice lady. She will appreciate if you ask for help, she is very understanding. Although there were 3 tough essays, I can't complain. The writing center & library were very helpful! I'm glad I took her class, I learned a lot from it and I would definitely take her class again. Only con about it is that she does take a while to grade.
Professor Aguilar is a hard grader. very understand;let her know if something comes up,will work on deadline. gives extra credit ?s on quizzes/test. Be prepared for a lot of writing &reading. I loved her class, would take it again. Mostly everything is written on paper(test in class, essays, group projects)deducts points for grammar.I got a B+.
Although the content of this course was okay, the professor herself was not all that great. Attendance is required, yet she says almost nothing of substance in her lectures. She also assigns so many ungraded things that its hard to know what should be prioritized to get the most out of her class. Her instructions are also usually VERY unclear.
