Liz is fantastic. She teaches well and is able to explain difficult concepts well. She is one of the most helpful professors I have ever had. She has an amazing open door policy and I have seen her stop in the middle of her lunch to help students. I highly recommend taking classes with her.

Doyle is extremely helpful and understanding. Grade is based on tests, in-class assignments, and hw. Tests are very fair, and are MUCH easier than you might think, considering how detailed the material is. Study your notes, then consult the book for things you don't understand. You'll do just fine.

This class is really hard! There is a lot of material and a short amount of time spent on any of it. She is a really effective teacher to some people, but I find myself struggling to keep a B in the course. Lots of office hours and ALWAYS there during them. Also, make sure to take coffee to class, she lectures straight off of the power points.

Dr. Doyle is extremely helpful- she tries to make herself very available to students. Gives you the powerpoint notes each day in class, and also makes course concepts lists to help you study. Dont take the class if you are looking for an easy A without doing work- you have to study and read the book, but it is possible to do very well. Take her.

This class involves a lot of memorization and work. However, Doyle is a great professor and really cares about the students. She gives you so many opportunities to get help and has lots of online stuff for practice. Great lady for a difficult class!

Dr. Doyle is great, she is so willing to help you if you don't understand things and goes over the material so well in class that by the time the midterm and final roll around you feel very prepared. A few in depth lab reports but have her look over your drafts and your fine, great professor!

Dr. Doyle is awesome. Lab can get kind of crazy at some point, but she is willing to help you and clearly explains everything! Midterm is straight from the study guide she gives you and she gives study guide for final as well. Take Doyle for lab she's very good!

Dr. Doyle is a very good teacher. She tends to move through her lectures rather quickly, but she provides you with slides beforehand so that greatly helps. She is so nice and happy to speak with you, her energy and enthusiasm towards the course are also a definite plus. Her tests are somewhat difficult, but that's nothing studying won't fix.

She is very helpful, if you have a question she is more than happy to help. her test come from the ppt, in class assignments and some of book. if you go to class and pay attention you should do fine. you def, have to study if you want a good grade. and shes always happy which helps

Lectures are very clear. She's extremely helpful (and perky), encourages asking questions. Her tests are easy with minimal studying. Don't miss class even though attendance isn't required because questions on tests come straight from notes.

I don't know if its just me, but I don't find her that interesting. I have her at 2:30 in the afternoon, and her enthusiasm just gets old...fast. She speaks very fast and goes through the material really fast. I only go to class to get the notes, I can't stand listening to her. Study HARD if you get her.

She is very passionate about the subject and also extremely clear. Her tests are fair and not too difficult as long as you attend lectures and take good notes. Questions are straight out of the notes. She's very helpful if you go and talk to her at office hours.

This class has made me question my desire to continue by Bio major.I studied a week in advance for all 3 of her exams,feeling confident in knowing the information,and got below the average on all 3. She goes fast and I never learned in class..I learned on my own.Dont take her unless you want weird humor and a professor who just reads her ppt slides

nice lady...tries really hard to make u laugh...her exams are hard but they're VERY straightforward (she lets u kno wat will be on them which is basically the same stuff as her quizzes)...2 exams, 1 lab report (done individual or group - ur choice) and lots of quizzes (one basically every day on the lab for that day)

GREAT. she gives you all the notes and as long as you go n pay attention youre good. ask her to slow down if you need it otherwise she'll keep going. use her online resources!! they help and she takes stuff off of there too!i made study guides before each test and got above avg on all of them. shes so nice and willing to help you just gotta ask!

Professor Doyle was definitely one of the best teachers I've had. She makes difficult concepts sound easy, and will go into more detail if people are having trouble grasping a concept. Def attend class, pick up the power points she hands out, and fill them in as the lecture goes on and you will definitely get a good grade.

Dr. Doyle is really awesome. She has three tests that are all straight forward. She gives you a lot of tools to study for the test with. If you use those a high b or a is definitely easily attainable.Had her for lab also, easy way to meet her and she is super fun and helpful in lab and with reports.

Had her for lecture BIO 214. I don't know where all the hype is coming from. Not an easy teacher. Material so in depth and she doesn't point you in the right direction on what exams will be on. Not very helpful in office hours. Talks down to you. Put it this way I have a 3.89 and got an A in organic chem. got a B in her class.Avoid if possible

Overall I would recommend professor Doyle! She's a great teacher and knows her stuff and gives great powerpoints. When you go into her office hours she can make you feel kind of stupid but will still be very helpful! 4 exams a final and in class participation

She hands out fill in the blank power points so you basically have to go to class. She also does clicker question attendance and in-class assignments. Her class is not easy but she gives you many materials to succeed, like practice online quizzes and games. A few out of class assignments but mostly just tests.

Extremely difficult class to take during the summer bc its so compact and will seriously consume your life. You have to meet with your group outside of class practically every single day. I wouldn't recommend taking another class or having a job while your taking it. That being said, 85% of the class got an A or B. So a good grade is likely!!! :)

LOVED her. She explains things very well, some people felt like their intelligence was being insulted, but I think it helped with retaining the information. She is enthusiastic and excited about what she does. Hands assignments back very quickly as well, which is awesome! Do the work and you will do well, no question!

This class turned out to be lesser of two evils; Doyle's class was boring and surface-level, but easy, and Bechtel's 214 was supposed to be interesting and very difficult. Take what you desire more, but I'm not sure if I'm prepared for genetics after taking Doyle. Tests were easy, study the slides and do the homework and you can get an A.

Loved Doyle! She is so nice and enthusiastic about the class. I had her for maymaster and it was not bad at all. You have to study everyday and it's a lot to learn quickly but it was not bad at all. If you read and go over the slides you'll be fine. She's awesome!

Dr.D was awesome and truly wonderful to have for this course. She brought donuts every Thursday and detailed exams on Fridays. It was a lot of material to learn in 4 weeks but she got us through. Study the slides and read the book on anything you don't understand (but she's great at breaking things down). an A is possible with effort and hard work

This lady is AMAZING. She is hands-down the most helpful professor I've had at JMU in my four years here. Not only does she bring treats to class all the time, she also goes the extra mile outside of class. She's always willing to help you out and lend an ear, even if you're no longer in her class. What a woman.

Amazing professor who's approachable and kind. Provides great notes during class, offers extra credit, and tests on what she lectures. I didn't use the book once. No homework, just 3 tests, a final, clicker ?'s, some in-class activities and 3 easy at-home assignments. Tests are medium hard. Definitely take Doyle for 214!!

The class was complicated, but her tests made it even worse. Note taking was not engaging and you had to be there to get the notes, otherwise you are lost. Professor Doyle was always very good-natured and found informational videos that helped. Never procrastinate studying.

As mentioned by many other students, Dr. Doyle is great. I took this class as a freshman and ended with a B+ which i am satisfied with. Cell bio is definitely a tough course in general but Doyle does her best to make it understandable and easy to grasp. Barely any homework and her clicker questions are worth a good amount of points which helps.

Dr. Doyle is a really solid professor. The class is not an easy class by any means, but she is very black and white with her lectures and will never ask something on a test that she didn't go over in class. If you have to take 214, definitely take her!

Took this class after Biochem so it was easier for me. Dr. Doyle is a great professor and I would take her again. Class is hard, especially if you've never had the material before. Go to office hours, and review the clickercanvas practice questions. I got sick and missed a test and Doyle helped me a lot, very understanding and helpful.

I heard that Doyle's class was the 'easiest' out of all the professors offered for BIO 214 but I find her teaching style confusing. She lectures fast and the tests have a lot of material. I dont think she does well at explaining things clearly so sometimes I do not even pay attention in lecture and just resort to my study skills and the textbook.

You defiantly want to attend class because she gives "clicker points". Her tests are tough, but if you study the material you can pass this class. I got a tutor to clarify the material because during her lectures she goes really fast and just reads off the power point. If you take this course, you HAVE to put in work for it.

Professor Doyle is fantastic and is there for you. She has office hours twice a week that are great! This is a super tough course. I put in hours and hours every week to learn the material. You do not need to read the textbook, but you will fail if you do not attend lectures. I would highly recommend her as a professor.

Doyle is hysterical. She is so fun and tries to make cell biology seem cool/interesting. I highly recommend taking her over the other 214 instructors. 3 exams + a cumulative final and only a few assignments that are easy. Clicker questions count for attendance. This class overall is super challenging but Doyle makes it bearable.

I don't recommend this teacher at all, one of the toughest teacher out there. Study her power point day and night and still got a bad grade. shes doesn't test on the information so don't try to memorize anything because she test only on the over view of the lectures, over all worst teacher!

I have an A, but you HAVE to read the textbook and take notes/study if you want to do well. her lectures arent enough to get an A. i never pay attention in lectures, i just right down the clicker Qs

Dr. Doyle is a good teacher. She gives extra credits, when possible. Attendance is mandatory and will weigh in your final grade through clicker points. 3 Exams, 1 final. Dr. Doyle is a nice prof, however the material is very difficult. Tests and assignments are not straightforward, lecture is mandatory (clicker points) but I didn't learn from lecture. I went to pass sessions and studied days prior to the tests and still never got above a 67 on any tests. The one time I emailed her she did not respond.

Instruction based completely on power points. Textbook reading mandatory to understand lectures. Test are quite difficult; comprehensive, multiple choice. Clicker points every class. Some group work, some homework. Final grade is final grade, no trying to get extra credit to make up that 0.5 point that you need to get to the higher grade.

Professor Doyle is a good professor. She reads from her slides but her passion for biology makes it at least a little interesting. Don't take this if you want an easy A. If you want that A you have to study a fair amount and pay attention in class. She is very nice and cares about your success so go see her in office hours! Would take her again!

Good 'ol Liz Doyle. She is the clicker queen so do not miss class. Tests are very tricky you really need to study for them. For a gen ed she made it harder than it needed to be. She never curved because of honors kids in our class (very annoying). All Bio 140 profs are not great. She's hip to youtube and finds funny vids to show us sometimes.

Class was very difficult, there was tons of information but the tests only had some specific more difficult material. The tests were generally very very hard and required extensive knowledge of the information. My saving grace was that lecture and lab grades were combined so try hard in lab to balance out your lecture grade if needed.

I wouldn't recommend taking Liz unless you're really passionate about biology. What she says in lectures vs what the textbook says are two different things, and then she would test you on what the textbook said. She also calls 10 second YouTube clips "movies" and she talks super monotone the whole time, so it's really hard to stay awake.

Prof Doyle is very knowledgeable about what she teaches. She teaches strictly with PP slides which I prefer, but the amount of information is a lot. The exams are multiple choice, super tough and very much detailed. She does clicker attendance every lecture, which can help pull your grade up a bit. Plus lab grade counts 40% towards Bio grade.

Dr. Doyle makes it impossible to get an A in bio 140. She makes her tests super tricky by making you just focus on the wording not the actual concept. She is also rude to students and makes them feel stupid for asking questions. She's also the coordinator for lab and she made the final the hardest thing ever. I learned nothing in her class.

She's super enthusiastic and quirky. I didn't get too much out of lecture but she gives you her slides and between that and the book, you know everything you need for exams. They really aren't too hard, not much memorization, mostly concepts. Class is kind of mandatory because of clickers, but she gives SOO much extra credit

Although I received an A for this class, I had to work my butt off. Reading the textbook is a must. I wrote up 4-5 hours of notes per chapter (12 chapters) which is broken up into 4 exams (including the final), so roughly 3 chapters worth per exam. I would write up the notes week before and review the powerpoints the day before which REALLY helped!

The best bio 140 professor you'll find. JMU isnt really know for its science department so dont expect them to have stellar professors in science classes. Its rare. Youll need to learn how to self-study.

Doyle is such a sweetheart. Lectures are clear, and she tells you what you need to know for the exam. Clicker quizzes every day, but they aren't hard. She often says "does that make sense?" which can get annoying, but she is doing it to make sure she is helping you. Has group "case studies" that are tedious, but they help you with the material.

Dr. Doyle is very very sweet and I really think she's a great person. She really wants her students to do well. Homework is very light, the pass sessions really help, however. The tests are SOOOOOOOO HARD. They are 25 questions and are really really really hard, like the hardest tests I have taken here. Lab isn't bad but can take a while.

Dr. Doyle is probably the best choice for bio140. She has really clear lecture notes, gives you extra credit opportunities, and puts a lot on clicker questions. Her tests are challenging, some questions are comprehensive, but some are straight from practice material. I had a good PASS leader which really helped. Everything was in notes or book

If you miss one class, participation grade bombs your overall grade by at least 5%. Tests are TOO specific (i.e. wording). PASS leader was awful, literally went through charges of different atoms for two hours and that wasn't even on the first exam. Flies by the lectures fast as if this was review for the class and does not slow down or review

Graded by 4 exams, a handful of group work, 5% online homework. She's nice, class wasn't hard. The 3rd exam was literally a GROUP EXAM. She's very understanding of the fact that most of her students are reading at a 5th grade level and manages to make accommodations when teaching complex concepts such as protein targeting.

Dr. Doyle was great, but her class was pretty hard. Most of your grade is determined by 3 exams and a final. The material is quite hard, but she does all she can to help you understand. Was very accommodating when we switched to online classes and recorded her lectures which was a great help. If you can, take her!!

Dr. Doyle was a great professor! The class itself was challenging, but if you go to class and study you will do well. Dr. Doyle cares a lot about her students, but does expect you to work hard. There are 3 exams and a final along with in-class group activities and a few homework assignments. No exams are dropped, but there is extra credit!

I absolutely loved Dr. Doyle. She's outgoing and a little goofy, but really tries her best to make class interesting. The content is super easy and well explained by her. If you have lots of questions, go to pass and it starts to make more sense. But a great professor, no cap.

Professor Doyle was an amazing professor!! There was a lot of asynchronous lectures but if you watch them and pay attention theres no way you wont pass. I would 100% take her class again.

Prof Doyle really cares about her students and their well being. Bio 140 is tough. If you don't read your textbook, you WILL fail this class. The only thing I was disappointed with was Prof. Doyle's lectures were pretty surface level. Her tests (there was only 3 so don't bomb them) were way more in depth so you can't just go to lectures and pass.

Dr. Doyle was amazing beause she had very clear powerpoints, and the class was not hard at all. It mainly consisted of note taking and exams. The class has a total of four exams, but that helped to break down the material. She was very nice and helpful.

Dr. Doyle was a great professor for Bio140! This class consisted of a lot of asynchronous lectures, and one in-person lecture per week. There were 4 tests in total: 3 on the lectures and the final. If your grade on the final is better than one of the 3 tests, she replaces that lowest score with your final's grade. She is very understanding!

Personally, I wouldn't take Doyle's class. While she's very nice and an overall good professor, her tests were out of hand. Her powerpoints in class are very basic and easy, but if you don't read the textbook chapters, which are very long, you will probably end with at most an 80. Little to no homework, but your grade is basically just the 4 exams.

Dr. Doyle is a fun and outgoing professor who really cares about her students. Her lectures are good and her powerpoints are neat, but her tests are all application based. You can study the material and know it really well, and end up with a C in the class if you aren't good at application questions. Read the textbook before lectures to pass.

She goes through the slides way too fast and never gives us a chance to take notes down. She doesn't AT ALL, just reads slides and expects us to engrave that in our brain within the "10 seconds" that she gives us. I don;t understand how she is the "highest" rating professor.

Doyle is probably the best for BIO 140, however ABSOLUTELY DO NOT TAKE BIO 140 IF YOU WANT AN EASY GEN ED CREDIT. If you want a gen ed credit for biology STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLASS UNLESS ITS REQUIRED. Dr. Doyle is incredibly smart however she goes very quickly, very hard to keep up. She gives a lot of worksheets that are helpful for exams.

She is a really smart and caring professor, but I'm sorry, she just flies through material faster than an airplane takes off. This makes lecture hard af to follow and confusing for the whole semester. Concepts don't really connect easily and this is hard af for a science gen ed. Definitely avoid if you aren't a science related major! It's a lot...

Dr. Doyle is super intelligent and passionate about the topics; however, the lectures move way too fast. It was impossible to write notes in class and she was super rude when asking for help. I never wanted to approach her with any questions or concerns. She provides lots of worksheets for additional practice and gives extra credit on exams.

Overall a great professor! The exams were super easy (except for the second one). Lectures are never boring and she always tells you what you need to know. Despite there being over 200 people in the class, she still made tons of handouts that really help you study and know the material. As long as you skim the chapters, you'll be fine.

Don't take bio 140 if you're looking for an easy gen-ed, as a bio class it was manageable. Your grade is made up of in-class assignments, clicker questions, homework, and 4 tests. She gave lectures REALLY fast so I recommend reading the textbook if you want to do well on tests. Tests are fair but do require a decent amount of studying to get As.

Alough I ended with a D I struggled in this class she moves fast and does not explain a lot. I personally was lost from day one. But she is very nice and is always accessible outside of class and wants the best for us.

Dr. Doyle explains things in a way that makes sense, but goes incredibly fast. I would recommend to teach yourself the material before class and then listen to her explain to get a better grasp in class. She does provide good handouts and if you print the notes its easier to add to them.

Liz Doyle was a VERY fast-paced professor to the point where I would be like fifteen slides behind taking notes and missing what she was lecturing about. If you're good with science and quick-paced material you'll be fine but if you remotely struggle, good luck. Also GO TO CLASS the attendance points really add up and I regret missing the few I did

I would not take this class as a Gen-Ed. It was graded mostly on 4 exams and not much other stuff. It was hard. Dr. Doyle is nice, she does talk fast but she teaches so much material. It is easy to get behind. The exams are all application based.

This is a lecture heavy course, but if I had to recommend any professor for BIO 140 it'd be Professor Doyle. She truly cares and cracks jokes pretty frequently. You definitely need to go to class or you will not understand the material. Take notes. Pay attention. Professor Doyle is there to help and the class also offers PASS.

Dr. Doyle's classes are lecture heavy and she moves very quickly in lecture so it is important that you go. The content of the course can be difficult due to the pace it is presented at, but Dr. Doyle provides many resources for her students. Overall she is a great professor, very knowledgable.

Dr. Doyle is one of the kindest professors and is genuinely passionate about what she is teaching. Her class is definitely lecture-heavy, and the 4 exams pretty much dictate your overall grade BUT she provides you with plenty of resources and is always available to help. Doyle is kind and I enjoyed having her as a professor. Her lectures are VERY fast-paced and I'd recommend reading the textbook before going to class or else you'll probably be lost. Material isn't too difficult but every concept builds on top of another so you have to understand it to move on. In-class clicker questions are easy grade boosters.

This is an incredibly challenging course on its own, but professor Doyle is great at what she does. She cares about her students and the content and can be hilarious at times. The exams are incredibly difficult if you are not spending lots of time studying so beware. if you take this class don't forget to "CUT THE CHATTER"

I did so much better in lab than in lecture but Dr. Doyle knows what she's talking about. Go to pass if you need help and ask her questions if you're confused. She's not awful she just goes at lightspeed. Only thing I hated was the fact that she would start a new unit the class before the test so you were learning things not on the next exam.

Bio 140 is not ez, dont take as gen ed, if for major take Doyle she makes everything you need to know in a nice slide show ( Ive realize to not expect this from professors). Study the slide show, show up to lecture for basically free points (grade padding), most of your grade is on the exams.

Doyle is very knowledgeable and good at what she does. She does many things to help students learn the concepts, including clicker questions, review classes, and readings. She is a great professor. My only complaint would be that she goes through the content really fast.

Dr Doyle is very nice but talks SO fast and barely leaves enough time between slides to ask questions. She is more than welcome to answer them but its hard to even know what to ask because its hard to keep up. Attendance is not technically mandatory but it does count for a grade so your grade will drop if you dont show up.

Dr.Doyle is a great professor, but make sure to do the textbook readings or else you are going to be confused during her lectures. Sweet teacher. Attendance is mandatory as she checks through the app iclicker. She is very straightforward and simple, making concepts easy to understand. You are made to pass this class if you put at least 50-70% of effort in. Exams are hard, but there isnt much outside of class work. Lovely lady.

Professor Doyle was alright. There are a lot of readings to do on your own, but for exams she gives a study guide which if you completed, get a pretty decent grade. She is still pretty strict even though she is a nice lady, won't round up grades, help you a little during office hours. She really wants you to learn it on your own, but helps a lot.

She is not a bad professor; she cares about biology and is excited about the material. Lectures can be boring, and she tends to switch the slides too quickly. I didn't like her lecture style (very fast and no time for questions/discussion). I would just read all of the lecture slides before every test. She seems kind of standoffish but she answered emails well and was nice in office hours. Overall mid class but not a bad option. I got an A, so I can't complain too much.

She just can't lecture well. She goes through the slides so fast and barely explains concepts. Obviously we are expected to do the textbook reading to obtain a stronger grasp on the content but it seems almost pointless to attend class when I need to learn the content outside of class in the first place.

Take her for bio 140. 3 tests that's aren't too bad, a final, and easy hw every week. She has clicker questions for attendance but they are only for completion not accuracy like some other Bio 140 teachers. Lots of extra credit for tests and if you study you should be fine.

Dr Doyle is one of the funniest professors at JMU if you enjoy dry humor and dad jokes. Very passionate about what she does. Tests are pretty easy if you just study and go to PASS every now and then. Lots of content, but she doesn't overcomplicate it on the tests. Study the iclicker questions, she'll sometimes put the exact questions on exams.

Dr. Doyle is a great teacher! She's very funny and her lectures are not boring. She uses iClicker so attendance is mandatory but you can miss 3 classes without it hurting your grade. There's a couple group projects but they were very easy and didn't take a lot of outside class time to do. Study for tests and you'll be fine.

Professor Doyle is very professional but she goes through everything so fast and I feel like doesn't explain everything in detail as much as I wish she would. Her exams piss me off because theyre so in depth to what we learned. She also doesn't curve or round sooo thats annoying. Definitely one of the better bio professors at JMU though.

Shes a great professor. Kinda harsh and has attitude/sass issues sometimes. She explains everything well though. She does offer some extra credit opportunities sometimes which helps boost your grade. If you study the review slides and go over your notes from lecture each week and try to actually understand the material, you will get an A. take her!

she reads directly off the slides during class and posts them so you could skip and read over the slides in your own time and be fine - she does take attendance every class through iclicker though. gives extra credit on every test and i found her tests on the easier end but also found material not terribly difficult so. honestly just mid teacher.

She lectures way to fast for most people, does not care if you put in the effort and still do not do well. I received a grade of a 69.7 and needed a C to pass. We talked often and I put in lots of effort going to study sessions and her office hours. She refused to round up my grade to a C despite the difference being .3%.

I liked her as a biology professor, she was pretty nice and would crack jokes sometimes. The material was difficult though and she would speed through the lectures so be prepared to reteach yourself everything. Exams were pretty hard despite the fact I put so many hours into studying, but if you utilize PASS or office hours you should be fine!

Dr. Doyle is a good lecturer. She does move through things fast, so I preferred to just listen instead of taking notes. Video lectures are posted and are identical to in-person so you can take notes with those. Attendance is taken with clicker questions, but is a minor part of your grade. I missed about 3 weeks of lectures and still had an A, lol.

Overall a good professor who responds to emails, is available to ask questions after class, and does drop some assignments at the end of the semester. There are 3 exams plus a final each weighing about 15% each, so if you bomb some you can still get above a B in the class if you do all the assignments. Lectures are lowk boring tho, just her yapping

TAKE HER! Expectations are clear, exams come straight from lecture, and lectures are posted. Canvas is very organized. Clicker questions track attendance and help your grade. Textbook reading is suggested, not required; Achieve assignments are but they help grade. PASS is highly encouraged and can def boost you a full letter grade.
